Removing Ranks?

Why not giving everyone something?

For the competive players some kind of unique appearance based on the ladder position. And also for competitive players a monthly tournament which rewards also special appearance like trims – as it was in guild wars 1. But give the reward to the PLAYERS and not the their guild, to prevent people from buying themselfs into such an guild – again compare to guild wars 1! I think this is what the competitive players want?! correct me please if i’m wrong here.

Then do something for the “hardcore” pvp players, the people that play a lot but are not on top of the ladder or dont even care about the ladder. Maybe also introduce a secound set of tournaments that is unranked (so the AP hunters can farm their titels and dont interfere with the competitive players). This group needs also something to show off. Not sure what this could be… Maybe the current ranking system was a good reward for them?!

And last but not… u know..
The casuals! I consider them to be the people who are logging into pvp time by time. Maybe for a guild event or just for fun. They want rewards too, but maybe not to show off how good pvp players they are… they are pbly mainly coming from pve, so they maybe want some rewards that can be used in pve! Gold for example? maybe not the large ammounts you can get in pve but still something.

I can’t see any reason why just a small part of the players should get rewards, or why a small group is excluded from the rewards. Just reward them acordingly to that they see as an reward!
Most people here want to keep the ranks and think about quitting if you take them… so obviously let them in game! Also a lot of people dont like the hj farmers that can show of high ranks, but are bad players actually (of course there are a few good hj farmers too). But they invested time into the rank grind too, why take away what they have achived legally? Im not talking about skyhammer abusers (this has NOTHING to do with pvp), i would like to see their ranks taken away…
But the hj players just play a different pvp, maybe leave rank for this group and give the “hardcore pvp” players something else IN ADDITION that they can work for. Or split the current rank system into 2 tiers:
Tier one: All rankpoints gained in hot join matches – measure for the hot join participation – maybe keep the finishers the same but change tha banner under the pet.
Tier two: The rank system for tournament players, supposed to show how much tournament exp someone has. Same finishers as current or a slightly different version?

So everyone has something to show off!

I like the idea, i also like that the formula is not taking top stats into acc, because then people would try to farm as much top stats as possible. The formula is simple and also rewards the loosing team if they play “good”, meaning if the match is close.
Gold for good TEAM play! And it is easy to adjust the amount of money

But i’m a little bit worried about manipulation… you could create even matches by purpose… for example if you are playing team arena at off time with two teams. it would be likely that you face the other team… Also you good loose all games by purpose at the beginning to lower your mmr dramatically, then you could sync against the other low mmr team… and switch the winning team every turn… Don’t know how to adress this

You need do achive more than zero points (personal score – the thing that allways pops up if you kill someone/assist a kill, capture or decap a point, get a buff for your team, hit a player with a sige weapon,…). The exact number you need is not known as far as i know.
This is what is necessary to GET the rewards, but it does not determine how big this reward is. How big the reward is, only depends from your team result (win or loose). If you loose you get less rewards, than if you win
You can only increase this rewards by topstats (which is bad in my opinion).

This was done, because in tournaments there are special “roles”, for example a bunker defends a point and a roamer runs between the points and kills the assaulters. The roamer is killing much more than all the other players and has the highest personal score. The bunker usualy has the lowest personal score.
Previous to these changes, the reward after a match was exactly the personal score. This was the reason why in hot join matches more than one person was caping a point, even if this is stupid for the team. Now, with the new system everyone SHOULD play for the benefit of the team, to get the higher reward for the win.
But usually new players don’t know what is helpfull for the team and what is not.

A friend of mine saw my tiger finisher and said: “But this is no tiger” And he was right! Where the designers EVER in a zoo? Or have they used google? This is by far no tiger!

I might be wrong, but as far as i know you are not rewarded for a match if you have 0 points.

I think it is way to late to discuss gold gain in hotJoin/soloQ/teamQ because this is already implemented and will be released on 10 dec.
Anet is doing the same “failure” every time again, the fist start talking to us if it is to late…
Of course i understand that they want to implement THEIR game and don’t want this kittenty users from the forums to trashtalk about their good ideas.
BUT the past showed, that they implement a lot of stuff, that is later abused by the players. And then it takes them sooo long to fix this stuff.
Please anet talk earlyer to the users about your plans, we dont need a blogpost… just give us input and listen to our output.

As mentioned before: As long as the dragon finisher needs 9 years+ to be reached, i would like to see the required amount of rank points to be sacaled down a little bit! It should be achivable within 2 years for the hardcore players and maybe in 3-4 years for the active players, 9 years is okay for casuals

HOTJOIN is getting gold? Lol this will be good.

I’m not at the office so I can’t look it up, but if I remember correctly, you get more gold for LOSING Team Arena than you’d get for WINNING a CA/hotjoin match.

If you do this i guarantee you, that you will see:

I’m not sure if you understand that you are not only dealing with ingame gold…
People are paying REAL money for this ingame currency. Rewarding looses will bring a lot of criminal minds on the playground… BE CAREFULL!

First off, on Dec. 10th we are adding a new vendor that sells items for both glory and gold. Players will not be able to simply buy all the rewards with gold but will also need to use glory which amounts to time spent in PvP. This vendor is temporary until the next phase rolls out. It will be there so you can spend your glory before the new system comes into play. The new system inherently factors in time. We will discuss that system more when we are ready. As soon as we are able, we will let you know when the glory vendor will be removed.

Regarding gold rate, the rates chosen are based on what players can expect from average play in other areas of the game, not on farming rates. It is not our intent to make PvP a better place to farm but to make it about on par with what a typical player can expect in other areas of the game. Some of you have correctly noted that time spent in PvP doesn’t contain many of the gold sinks that PvE players experience and this has been factored in.

I don’t know what you think a typical player is… So this staement is saying exactly nothing!
A typical player might be a farmer (this grazy ppl that are running around in circles creating a so called “zergs”, that spamm all their skills on a single champion). 4-x gold per hour. (sry i dont know the numbers, i am not in the circle business)
A typical player ould be someone who is loging in and is standing in Lions Arch for 20 min spamming in the chat about some stuff no healthy man would even care about… making exactly = gold per hour, but get reportet 100 times/hour.
A typical player could be someone who is doing just events (No, not the world bosses, normal events!) and heart quests do get the 100%. 10 silver – MAX 1g per hour. You probably remember the threads saying “Fast travel costs are WAY to high”. This people have still this problem… The way they play is just not rewarding ^^
A typical player could be a dungeon runner… 1g per 10-15 min which is the average time of a pvp match… so can we expect to get 1g per match? WOW!

=> give us numbers, or the whole discussion is pointless

Any plans if the gold reward is availabe only in soloQ/teamQ and maybe less in hj? or will it also be availabe on private arenas? CAREFULL! Gold attracts a lot of dubious people… I can the the private arenas “24/7 gold farm arena, join red team – blue team is automatically filled with bots”. Please keep an eye on that… An PLEASE if anything goes wrong with the gold reward… REMOVE IT INSTANTLY! Dont wait a month until you announce, that i might be removed in the future… ACT AS SOON AS YOU CAN SEE ANY SIGN OF ABUSE! (I used capital letters, because i think you have to see this and pay a lot of attention!)

I wouldn’t change the stance on PvP being a even playingfield, this could frustrate a lot of players. A compromise: Give everyone each skill in sPvP but once you leave that area of the game, the new skills can’t be used anymore. Instead you have to buy a PvE version of that skill.

A new player would have a big disadvantage in PvP if new skills have to be unlocked with skill points! DONT DO THIS! Keep it the way it is: Everything (Runes, Sigills, Skills, Traits) available in PvP without restriction.
If i am correct, all you try to achive with this whole skillpoint thing, is to allow pvp players to lvl in pve… Why not just replace the pvp-glory boosters with exp tonics? Acc bound as the boosters atm… available through mysic forge if you need more, available through the daily (might be interesting for pve players too). Don’t reinvent everything new, you already have greate stuff out there, that is currently useless! I’m personaly am not using any kind of booster at all, so replacing glory boosters with other boosters would be like making crap beeing another crap…

I wonder: will we get loot drops from enemies in sPvP just like in WvW? Instead of WvW tokens there could be dungeon tokens if the victim wore a dungeon set. So an enemy who wears the Arah set can drop an Arah dungeon token.

The loot won’t have to be picked up manually, but instead you get a reward-window after the battle, where you can pick up all the drops.

This could go so far as an enemy who wields a Legendary can drop crafting mats used for crafting a legendary.

this is a very creative idea! would encourage people to attack those with fancy armor weapons haha!

but, it must be carefully implemented to avoid being abused by farmers.

The goal in PvP is to win! Not to kill/farm other people.
What your idea would cause is that i would have much trouble in soloQ, because my team would constantly chase their ele with 4 ppl because it is an easy kill… but we would loose the game!

I would keep the aquisition as is is right now! If you change something here you once more slap into the face of the players, that have already put a lot of work into their rank. If you massively increas the rank gain, a new player would be able to gain the same rank a veteran player almost a year for (lets say rank 50) in a month.

BUT i would like to see the curve at the end (Phoenix, Dragon) to be more flat. As pointed out by Gesamtkunstwerk.6590 in this thread, it would take over 9 years to get the dragon. THIS is way to long! I would rather like to see this achivable in around 2 years of playing, so it shows that you are experienced, but you would be able to show it one day… and not in 10 years when noone is playing the game anymore.
Other thing you could do is increase the rank gain based on the ladder position. High ladder position = double rank points? (Would not use 10 trillion times more rank points… keep it rewarding, but do not overextend!) But on the other hand, many ppl mentioned that rank is more a personal progress bar, rather than a “Skill-meter”, so increase the gain based on ladder position might be not the best option you got.

Yes, i feel like you. I’m compleately disapointed and raging in the forums like a panda mama who tries to protect her panda baby!

I also think about quitting the game… it would be fun, but they just skrew up to much (fractal bugs that stom you from finishing – and you receive nothing to even out the time you have invested… not even a dev saying “We are very sorry about your bad game experience” just nothing…), low ranks in soloQ messing up the matches, unbalanced professions, bunker meta with rediulous “i push you from the point – troll engi bunkers”… i could write sooo much more…

Inc PvP changes; q-ing needs fix first

What do you guys thing we should do in the meantime while we continue to work on the new server infrastructure, matchmaking, ladders, etc.?

Talk to the community about your plans earlyer – We got the feeling you guys are doing NOTHING! Wich is for sure false, but we get no input from you (communication > all)

Think about how you want to deal with exploiters/matchmanipulation and talk about this to us. And finaly do anything about the skyhammer farmers and the birthday glory abusers.

Also do multiple small fixes, rather then one buggy big one. For example intoduce the rank barrier for soloQ (rank 20 for example). Just remove the button [JOIN] and replace it with a note “SoloQ is only available for more experienced players, which we consider to be above lvl 20! This is because SoloQ is seen as a competitive area and we want to make me math experienced for all players as good as possible. Thank you for your undestanding.”
This is a quick fix and if you come up with something better you can ask in the forums for feedback and replace it easy if you receive positive feedback. This shows us, that you care about our game experience and what you are willing to help us.

with gold as reward at 10.12 we will get pve-players, so this will be needed to add in at 10.12 too.

  • reportfunction for afk
  • 4vs5 check or other methode to prevent uneven matches
  • bann of skyhammer farmer, cause the high amount of glory converted to skillpoints converted to tradable items will inflict the trading post
  • gold per ingamemail for previous wins in tourney. dont put it into the chests. some has bunkered them, some has open them. to be fair use the already existing statistic value u have and calculate a amount for every player to be on a more equal ground like pve player
  • with higher amount of players esp new pve players we need a significant higher balancing frequency at “shaving” skills and traits.. several months is a no-go. do it bi-weekly. all pvp-player need to stop for pve-update so its time to shave things

if u dont do the points above u just create a way to abuse the system and reward not the pvp-players but the farmer and exploiter.

Also i would like to see unique pvp armors that can be transformed to PvE as well. An armor (better more for different preferences), to show in all game modes what you have achived in PvP. This would be a reward, that i would like AND if would FEEL rewarding.

You also finaly have to do something about the skyhammer farmers… Remove their rank or give everyone else the same amount the “highest” skyhammer farmer has farmed in ADDITION to his/her current rank/glorry. Would you are doing right now (NOTHING) gives a very wrong signal to everyone, who has not abused that. I feel like an idiot for not having abused ANY of the uncounted bugs you manage to put in the game… (No blame… everyone does mistakes, but fix them faster and remove the effects they have/ban the abusers). If you make it beneficial to abuse every bug, everyone else will start abusing too! I’m not only talking about pvp here, same for pve… until no you have not managed to fix the possibility to skip lupicus, which is exploited by hundreds of arah rushers… they make more money than most of the forum users here can imagine… we are talking about 10 legendary weapons and more… and anet is doing nothing about it! And this is REALLY disapointing.

PLZ PLZ dont remove rank and glory, this is all the pvp veterans can show of… if you remove this we have no possibility to show that we are veterans. Removing this would be a reason to quit the game entirely and forever. You just remove everything we have achived? WTF!

Dont replace glory by gold, instead make glory a meaningfull currency, give us cool stuff we can buy for it!

Transmute the glory boosts into glory/ rank consumables… Everyone bunkers them, just make them usefull… And if you are doing this, plz keep my 100+ tiger finishers in mind… they are compleately wothless… i can do nothing with them!

I also dont like the idea that pve players can get their armors into pvp, as long as we have nothing different to show off (unique pvp skins). Dont get me wrong i got almost 17k ap and i am playing every game mode… so i can equip my pve armors in pvp… i just dont think you should make the pvp players feel like jerks with cof armor, which they are proud of beeing a “crap” armor compared to the nice t3 armors from the pve players.. thats UNFAIR! Also a reason to quit…

And finally:
Speed the things up if you dont want to loose more and more players! It is unacceptable that you guys need ages for every little fix…! What about the rank barrier for soloQ? YOU ARE DOING NOTHING HERE! It is one if (rank < 20) then {hide the join button}. I did your work in 1 minute! What takes you so long? QA? (Don’t say yes or i start counting the fractal bugs that ruined fractals for me… TY for that btw… another good reason to quit…)

Glory became completely worthless and should not become a currency for the new stuff you are planning because of the Bday booster bug that was giving 1000% glory instead of the intended 100% extra glory. People were earning 30k+ glory a 5min match because of this. Say you earned 500glory on average a match you were getting 50,000glory at the end of matches and they never rolled back the people who benefited from this the first day which was stupid. So you have some people with millions of glory that benefited from this that never had that glory taken from them. No one cared about glory and this bug before because it was worthless but if your putting stuff in the game that makes it actually worthwhile thats not fair to legit players and players who didn’t benefit from the bday bug/skyhammer farming. SS for proof.

And all they do is to make gold more and more important.

PvP players? Well you can keep your finishers… Okay you cry so loud… you can have 1 silver per win… so if you win 10,000 matches you can now buy a legendary weapon on the trading post! AND here is the cool thing: You can use it in PvP!

Bu be at least a little bit consturctive:
- Give gems as reward for tQ and sQ matches so pvp players can buy custom arenas and skins, like pve players now.
- Keep pve and pvp seperated!
- Give the pvp players a way to show their skill! Some cool aura around the character, so that everyone can see: “WoW, this is a top 100 PvP player!”
Maybe golden aura for top 10, silver for top 100, bronze for top 500…
Then ppl can skillfully push other ppl from far point with their skillfull engi tanks and reach with this skillfull playstyle the top 100 and show their skillfull skill!

BTW: To all the players that still think their skins show how skilled they are…
You can buy your arah rush in the lfg tool… Ando the skillfull rusher just exploits some bugs to skillfull skip lupicus and all the other dungeon content! But you can show then how skillfull you are!
So keep skillfull runnin gin skillfull circles in cursed shore and frostgorge sound and skillfull kill the skillfull champions! And if you are done with that, come here again and post in this thread, that you want better drops from champions! Because this thread is for pve players that want to get more money and more possibilitys to spend their money!

Actually you don’t need to remove all the stacks from her, since she takes more damage the less she have it is possible to get her to the next phase with 2-4 stacks remaining. What is strange is that she didn’t leave the field after being sent to the next phase.

i’m aware of that, and it was the way we worked around the bug, because actually we tried two times more after my last edit (In total we needed more than 1 hour and 20 min ONLY for the final fractal – more than for all the three other fractals in total).
But our problem was, that the barrage phase startet even if we dealed NO dmg to her and she had exactly the same hp as before and all 10 stacks (as you can see on my screenshot).

The Bug:
The bug is, that the barrage phase is starting right after Horrik shoots one times with the “static/elector” field. So you have to catch this single field, if you miss it you cant kill her, because she has 10 stacks (invulnerable) and there are no other “static” fields to remove the stacks.

Our workaround:
Immediatle stack on her with all team mates, so Horrik will shoot exactly on her possition, there the whole team stands. So you can remove up to 4 stacks from her, so that only 6 stacks remain, in the immediatly following barrage phase you are then able to kill her slowly, because you can deal dmg now. If the reaches the life threshold the barrage phase ends (otherwise it is infiitely long – at least i assume that, because i had not infite time to test it :P). In the next turn the bug still exists, the hard thing is now to immediatly stack on her again to catch the first shoot from horrik.

Would like to add one bug too:
On 38 we got Mai Trin as Boss… Two times the barrage phase startet before we had removed the 10 stacks from her, so she was still on the ground but barrage phase has startet already…

EDIT: And again the same bug… Or is this normal? working as intended? More difficult…

EDIT2: We were unable to finish the fractal, the bug is constantly reapearing… we tried to kill horrik, but it is not working!
So tired of all this bugs again…

Hey,
im currently facing a vastly rising amount of spam whispers in chat. I allways report the spamers and block them, but it seems they have an infinite amount of accounts. Every day i am wispered 1-3 times per hour.

The spammers are all “working” for the same website… So the spam text is allways the same.. “Buy our gold and get free christmas money”

Am i the only one that noticed that? Whats your experience? How are you guys dealing with that?

To the devs: Would it be possible to add aditional spam filters for he chat that prevent this? Any chance to perma ban the gold buyers (The real problem)?

Help Me Escape MMR Reset Hell Hole

What have you expected? I posted directly after the matchmaking was changed that i’m constantly have low rank teams and compleately glueless people…

But all feedback was: " Your matches are even in terms of MMR", “You where just carried by the old matchmaking and now matchmaking puts you where you belong”, “L2P, matchups are good!”
Now a bigger part of the active forum users seems to be affected by this…
Maybe anet will anounce something tomorrow… i dont think so, but maybe… I lost my faith! If they are doing anything, then it will take them around 3-6 month to implement and test it. Slowest developement progress i have EVER seen! Maybe the employes have worked on “Duke Nukem” before… Would explain alot…

The only think you can do is:
- Leave soloQ
- sync
- run a troll build and dont care about win/loose and just ave fun (my favorite)
- wait for anet to do something
- wait for the playerbase to become better
- wait and complain and be unhappy

This is what i mentioned on page one already.
If you change the conditions and how they work, then you have to REBALANCE all the weapon skills and traits and utilities and… i dont know what else.

Forsaker and others pointed out, that the slow from chill is important for the necro. Also there is the trait on necro which chills if you blind anyone – which would be nice, but necro has only two blinds as far as i remember. And you also want to make blinds instant. Again necro as example: You want the dagger 4 skill to be instant? Keep in mind this skill includes condition transfer! (Of course you know that, i know you are a decent player, all i want so say is: Even if you change less it will affect a lot stuff. Balancing IS a hard job, a VERY HARD job).

Don’t get me wrong, i like this thread and i really apreciate that you take all the time to work this out and write it down.

We all hate the condition spam! (Maybe except of the main necros and the condition warriors :P) But i think changing the way conditions work right now is not the best way. You ask for constructive feedback and not just QQ… To be honest im not sure what to do about condition spam… But i think changing ALL the weapon skills and traits AND sigills and runes would be the way to go. So i would rather split this discussion about condition spam into seperate sup threads for each profession. The goal would be do give every profession a viable condition build, imo.

EDIT:
A viable build, that is not based on condition spamming! Maybe it would be enough to get something like a condition supporter, which is not primary using DMG conditions but rather weakness and blind or vulnerability and chill as team support…
The only condition that i would chance is chill, i would prever if it would work like “Diversion” in gw1. So if you cast a skill into chill the recast duration is reduced overall and not just for the duration of chill… but this would equire chill to last not as long as now… which would weaken the slow…. da beist sich die katze in den schwanz

I don’t really understand why you want to remove the dmg from poison – because that is actually what a poison does… it kills you!
Same with chill, if i see a condition like “freez”, “chill”, “Forst”… my intuitive understanding of the word tells me that it slows me in some way. If you remove this effect it is some sort of couter intuitive.

But i agree with you, conditions as they are atm are not in a good place. I would prever to have them more weakening the oponent over a long duration, similar to the buffs. For example we got “protection” which is reducing the dmg by silly 33%, while the “counter condition” “vulnerability” is only increasing the dmg by poor 1%. Conditions deal to much dmg and last not long enough, imo. I would rather like to see it similar like in gw1 where conditions where a huge preasure, which killed SLOWLY over time. What we have atm is rather the possibility to ignore the targets armor.
The problem with changing something here is, that it inflicts everything… Weapon skills, healing, condition remove, condition duration, utility skills, traits…

What i also don’t like is the massive ele weapon BUFF, almost every ele i see is running at least ice bow – even in pve

okay got the bug too now…. AND PASSED THE FRACTAL!

Here is how i did:

I put two cooling units into the slots, then i ignored the third one and run through the room.

I’m guardian and switched to magi stat armor! also took the sigil for heal and the sigin that gurants increased healing + focus as elite 45 ar if it matters..

Hey,
you are talking about the room with the turrets? The cooling unit spawns after you kill all golems in this room…
Another cooling unit you can get from defeating a champion ooze…
In story mode you need just 2 cooling units, in normal fractal you need 3.
The third one is the one you can get after freeing some krew members.

Then there is another room in which u receive dmg (if not story also agony), in this room there a slots for the cooling units. let your guardian go into that room spamming skill one and wearing as much healing gear as he has, use the doge roll to be faster…

After you have placed the cooling units you should be able do enter the room with the turets again and finish it (cant remember atm how exactly)

How long does it takes for what number of developers to create a single PvP map in average?

What is the biggest problem/challange in the developement process?

Do you take inspiration from other games, when you create a new pvp map?

Are there any plans to involve the comunity in an mapmaking process, for example by doing a design contest?

Are there plans for bigger and more epic pvp maps? For example a castle within the mountains, with secret passages and gates that can be opend by capturing a controll point, which highly focusses on small splits rather than larger team fights (for that we already got wvw).

What where you intensions when you where creating skyhammer? Expecially when you made the design decision, that skyhammer cant be doged?

You think skyhammer is a good pvp map?

What you think is your best pvp map so far?

Could you please remove skyhammer from the tournament rotation?

That’s why im allways left alone on mid as guardian… :P

Would like to add to the stomp/rezz point:
Watch your team mates! If one of them is downed, try to rezz!
BUT do not rezz if:
1) You are facing one/multiple opponents that are dealing dmg to you/the downed person. If you rezz and die during the rezz atempt, you loose more than you can win! This is very important in team fights, often a team dies compleatly when they trie to rezz up a downed team member!
2) The only enemy that tries to stomp is low hp… better kill him!
3) Someone is trying to stomp your mate and you can interupt the stomp, stop rezzing and interrupt! Of course keep rezzing if your mate is rezzed before the oponent can stomp (requires experience!)
4) You are alone and an oponent is starting to safe stomp ( – with stability or ele mist form) at the same time as you start rezzing… Sad situation because his stomp is faster than your rezz… two people are required to rezz if an oponent is stomping your mate. In this situation the best you can do is deal damage to the opponent to get an advantage in the following 1 vs 1.
5) If there is an oponent (no thief, ele mesmer – because they can avoide the stomp) also in downed state and you can safe stomp him, do it. But FIRST watch your mates hp, if he is almost dead, rezz him, because when the downed opponent kills him before you can stomp, he gets relly (is standing up again).

If you are ranger and got the elite spirit without cd, use it BUT start rezzing up, just in case your spirit becomes interrupted!

I got the strange feeling this is to difficult for a new player… :/
I trie again
Allways rezz your downed team mates, except you will die if you do so! If you can interrupt an opponent, that tries to stomp your team mate, interrupt him! If you can, use your stability while you rezz.

EDIT:
I think we forgot the MOST important thing… Communicate with your team! Try to figure out what they plan to do and what roles they are playing (bunker, roamer, far point asaulter, home point defender, ..). If you are not sure what to do, ask them where they want you to go and what they want you to do. But keep in mind, that they cant allways take your hand and tell you what to do. But if you are unsure, just ask “Where you need me?” or “You guys need help on close?”.

Yeah another awesome match… got rank 2 ele, but rank means nothing, so our mesmer went afk complaining about the ele and the 2 dps guards…
At least he was using chat… only person except me using the chat at all

I’m a litte bit confused… that the fact that this is a BUG is not well known!
It is DEFNITELY the case that the ladderbord is showing a red arow if you are in the % range and RISE… Have seen this hundert of times! This is the opposite to the case if you are in the ladder (top 1000). I think this is a bug caused by bad programming (sry ArenaNet but u are doing a LOT of big mistakes). In lb the green arrow is right if the rank number lowers (from 200 to 100 the number is becoming smaler) but in the % area this is WRONG (50% to 90% means u become better even if the number becomes bigger).

This is a BUG! I’m really wondering that Justin doesn’t know that… Plz forward this to your QA-Team, Justin!

This isn’t a problem with peak and non-peak time. Same bullkitten happens all the time because of the following:

  • New players are freely allowed to hop into rank.
  • They are placed in the 400-500 range of the leaderboard when they first start.

So yea, you’ll see a rank 10 kitten-t-e-r in every “high rated” match because of how dumb the system is and has been since release.

Ranks 1-20 need to not be allowed to Queue up for ranked play. Period.
A player without a leaderboard rating should be placed in the 75 percentile range, not the kittening top 500 range.

And before you tell me rank=/=skill, we all know what. But if you’re skilled beyond your rank you’ll rise out of the 75% in a couple of games. So enough with the algorithms and the internal testing and all the secret research to reinvent the wheel. Do what has been proven to work in countless of other games, and do it right.

Just to add: A rank barrier for ranked play would also help to prevent twink acc’s from manipulating matches.

Total tournament games played could work. Smurf accounts can be exploited for sabotaging other players’ LB ranks, so if everyone had to play a specific # of tpvp games before they get into the competitive area of solo and team Q that would be more fair imo

How can players get a specific # of tpvp games played, if they can’t enter soloQ/teamQ? Or do you mean something different with “competitive area”?

Two players may be distant in leaderboard but have similar MMR. This may easily happen if most of players get around the same MMR which is very likely on the long run since skill cap is low.

This is an interesting point!
Could we get some information about the distribution of the MMR atm from an ArenaNet official?
Something like: “Top 50 have the highest MMR with little distance to Top 150-200, which are relativey close to each other. Then there is a gap …”

Would be interessint and could explain the different experience some players have with the new matchmaking.

Would be also nice to know what the officials are thinking about the new matchmaking. Do you think it is working rather good or bad? Do you see any specific problems with it atm?

I really don’t think you’ll like any game if you hate lotteries.

It is off topic, but i like RPG’s that tell a story like the Elder Scrolls series or the first dragon age, mass effect…
I also like strategy games that are chalenging, but most of this game become boring at a certain point in time (right after you are stronger/richer than your opponents and are just farming them from the map). Which is the link for this post to not be compleatly off topic…

I think everyone here agrees, that a pvp game is fun if both teams are even, if the opponent team is much better or much worse it it no fun – it is called farming then – okay pve players seem to like farming for whatever reason!

I dont enjoy! got 2 more matches… both horrible even if we won the second one -.-
People are not using the chat and “forgot” to mention the are running a bunker necro -.-
And this is defenitely a matchmaking issue…

First match i lost, because we got 0 dmg in the team… and i was studip enough to reroll to ranger from war -.-
Second match was a 4 vs 5 which we almost lost because we lost a 3 (they) vs 4 (us) multiple times…
And Athena was flamed for not dealing dmg but just attacking with staff…
Why we have to deal with such bad players? SoloQ right now is just a desaster! Don’t know about top 200 matchups, but down here at 500-700 it is unplayable…
I think even RNG matchups would be better then this…!

I realy think about quitting the game… pve is just about farming, pvp is in solo Q a lottery and as others have mentioned above team arena is just about farming bad teams and beeing farmed by high rank teams! Fun i have right now? Somwhere smaler than zero…

The problem with changing the default is all you end up doing is moving the center of the curve. We’ve been talking about other metrics we can use as a proxy for skill and game knowledge that we can use to then place players at starting MMR closer to their actual skill level. E.g. PvP rank, PvE level, achievement points, time played, etc..

If you take the things u mentioned into account, to assign different MMR to players that are new to tpvp, woul this not smoth out the “center of the curve”?

To clarify: MMR is the hidden value that determines the rank on the ladder?

And maybe this should not only be done for new players, but also for players that are playing infrequently… But i guess this is not possible with the current system?!

I’m going to try to make this point again.

New players should be placed in the 75% percentile or lower. It’s not hard to get out of that range if you’re good, but running into new players in the 1-500 range is unacceptable.

THIS! But i disagree with your opinion that it is not hard to get out of this ranking “hell”. I was going up and down a lot in the ladder (I startet playing different professions with different builds), and my experience is, that it highly depends on your team if you win or not. For example as a guardian you have low impact on the outcome of a match, if your team is leaving you constantly alone with classes that can beat you in 1 on 1 (condition necros, engis). If you play a damage class u have more impact on the game, but still you will run into people that just dont want to defend points, then you can try to defend a point by yourself, or you can join the zerg… I’m not sure what is the better way… The highest impact you have (IMO), if you play any kind of far point asaulter.

If you say now: “Well you are stuck in this ranking hell because you are bad!” Then i would like to answer, check the ladder between 1000 and 500, you will find a lot of experienced players here. And a lot of them are playing rly good IMO.

I don’t know what to tell you. I can’t see all your matches, but the latest ones have all been very even as far as MMR is concerned.

Please keep in mind that Rank != Skill.

I think the “Problem” are rly hot join players, that are coming to tpvp now. I had one opponent complaining about beeing unable to leave the match… we all know that this is not possible in tournaments, but this player did not know that… its no proof, but it is a good “hint”.

I would sugest that you maybe should make the MMR that new players get, beeing dependent on the number of matches/the rank this players have. So for example a player that is new to tpvp would start with a higher MMR if he is already “experienced” in pvp in general. And a player who is complety new to pvp gets a low MMR so that he is not matched up with experienced players/good players.

I noticed a big problem for new players (new to tpvp) is that a lot of them quit soon, because they are just loosing. I think what i have suggested above could help here too.

And of course I’m aware that skill != Rank and vise versa. I just noticed a big missmatch in playerskill! As pointed out above this might be because of new players have a similar MMR compared to ladder rank 500 People (not sure if this is true, just read it somewhere here ont he forums).

I also think that most of the positiv feedback here in the forums is from top 200 pvp players (maybe it would be helpfull for the deffs is people write on what rank they are atm). All i want to say is: I think there is a problem around ladder rank >500 (500-800/900/…)

Not a bad idea. I’ll bring it up with the team. It might be confusing though because there is already a “Rank” on the leaderboards.

Rename it (PvP-)Level… would be consistent with the PvE Mode. Then “rank” can be used excusive for ladder.

Got another match, that was not balanced imo. I was asking in chat if the players are playing tpvp more often, unfortunately just one other player seemed to understand english and be willing to comunicate. He said he is playing infrequently.

The issue that causes this is the difference in overall pvp experience between people with similar MMR.

You can have guys that played up till rank 50+ in hotjoins who have close to no MMR since they barely played tpvp games. Even if those hotjoins arent the same as tpvp games, those guys will be more comfortable with their class than the average rank 10 for example.

That’s was i thought too, and it is the reason why i want a dev to check my roaster. They can for sure see what is going on there, and maybe find something that can help to improve the matchmaking.

Watching your rosters. So far you’re being put into reasonable matches based on your MMR.

Could you please check my roster too, the last hours i had a HORRIBLE gaming experience! Im Constantly in teams with two ppl beiing r20, while the opponent team has 2 ppl with r50 The r50’s just farm the 20’s and the result is something like a 3 vs 5! Thats no fun for me

I add 2 example srceenshots, one showing me loosing, one showing me winning, same problem on both screenshots. But since an hour im always on the loosing side

Help or just any kind of comment would be much appreciated!

EDIT: And I’m dropping, no im falling, in rating like a stone! I dont know why i drop in rating if i’m obviously in the team that is worse. Would be nice if you could look into this too
