Sure. Why not? Thats seems to be what the theme of the game is centered around. Everyone can play everything.

You still can run everything, even with Fotm. You play up to 10 levels, which is 30 runs. Then you start needing the resist gear. If you like the Fotm, then you get the gear.

Personally, I do not really care for the Fotm, and am waiting for other methods of obtaining Pink gear.

Dear Toymaker Tixx,

I’d like a jumping puzzle that isn’t a jumping puzzle. I’d like a reverse puzzle that is modeled after a giant sled-ride. One where I can climb up a mountain and ride a metal runner sled down a mountain, past obstacles and monsters and avalanches. Over jumps and hills and through slick ice chutes with falling icicles and break-away ices floes. Riding my shiney runner sled to the bottom for great prizes and record breaking times I can compare with my friends and guild-mates as competition.

Thank you

You know, this is a pretty great idea. I would love a sledding hill that would just be for fun, and could have its own small set of acheivements. There is already sliding type animations in game and knockover type, so you could have enemy obstacles in the way for fun runs.

The lead designer recently said his favorite game of all time was Super Mario 64- take a que from the snowslide levels! What a fun way to add non combative interaction/competition to the game.

SWTOR is still very much online, and it’s not like they lied about the “gear treadmill”, they said from the very beginning that it would be a pretty standard MMO with BioWare storytelling and that’s exactly what it is.

Well they certainly lied about rolling out content on a regular cadence month to month. All content addition stopped abruptly after 1.3 which was questionable in terms of content.

Most of the additional cosmetics and other things that were obviously completed and shown in teaser videos repeatedly for months were held to be sold in their gem shop.

That is a sham.

My only wish is for one time only events to disappear or at least not offer any more awesome loot.

I wish for more 1 time events. Totally the bread and butter of GW2. One time events, with permanent world additions.

Fractals of the Mists Data

TransparentlyOpaque.1824

I tried the FOTM dungeon, completed a few rounds. It was ok, though im not compelled to try to get any further “into the mists”.

When Arenanet is tracking the data regarding how many people are playing the FotM, there are a few things I hope they are taking into account:

Number 1- Its new. People are going to give it a try to see new content. That goes for anything added to the game.

Number 2- Ascended gear was added ONLY to the FOTM. I would wager that a significant number of people are running FOTM only because that is the only avenue currently for Ascended gear.

FoTM is alright, but it is certainly not inline with a significant number of players view on how the game was going to be expanded. Just because people are playing the new dungeon now, does not necessarilly indicate that the absolutely enjoying the experience. Please take that into consideration, and continue making other new Story/Exp based dungeons with their own set of cosmetic armors and weapons.

1. Will there be more dungeons added in the original style? Story/EXP mode, with cosmetic armors?

Hundreds of precursors were dumped into the market? I dn’t know about that- a few people got one, but not the massive number you seem to be thinking.

Its just a game, life moves forward, and guess what? There will be new legendaries, probably even more legendary coming down the line. Maybe even for Christmas? Would that crush you if a new legendary arrived for your class that was even more appealing?

They’re not adding a new tier, they’re adding to one. I don’t think anyone will complain against that.

New legendaries? Sure.
New ascended? Sure, just lower the kitten prices.

My point was that adding to a tier over time functions exactly the same as adding several new ones over time. The stat jump isn’t as drastic but the players are still left running the treadmill for better stats.

A treadmill is a treadmill regardless of how big the number differences are…

Let them run their treadmill. Hamsters need games too….

But at least give them their own chat channel, so people looking to run the other dungeons can get a group.

I want more 1 time events. I bet they are one of the constants for GW2 in its lifespan.

I think for the wintersday event, it will not be climaxed on christmas or new years eve, everyone wants or needs that time to spend with friends/family. I would think running a week/weeks long festival would be best, if nothing else, for more sales of the gem items. Every other consumer location already has christmas decor, why not GW2?

Though on my wintersday list, I hope for events as varied as the halloween festival.

No more dungeons like this please. “Progression” players get FOTM: new fractals, new bosses- all in that same location.

New dungeons return to story/exp modes with new challenges and token systems, allowing players to play and earn new cosmetic armors and weapons.

I When I tried out the fractals, I was a bit disappointed, as some of the areas could have easily been made into interesting fully fleshed out dungeons. I want a story and a reason that im going into an area to play. Immerse me, do not leave me stranded in a disjointed “fractal dungeon” for “loot”.

Didnt participate myself but it was described to me by a friend, its sounded truly awesome and its great that there are “unique” experiences that not every one has.

Keep them, it keeps me thrilled about the game and i will definitely be there next time.

I’m going to quote someone else here:
“The better question is WHY, in a game genre with persistent worlds, 24/7 gameplay, people in time zones all over the world, people with varying schedules and play time, would you EVER have events that occur one time at specific times that works for a small number of players?”

Hopefully Arenanet gets enough feedback and data to show that they really need to make sure their events can include the vast majority of the player base, in other words, get rid of the one time event, have it repeatable, and have it repeatable over a matter of days.

Quite simply because players would farm it. There were already players getting 2-3 legendary precursors by jumping overflow queues. It messes with the economy when you give some players 300-600g/day.

This sounds like a massive exaggeration. The chances of getting 1 precursor were slim. The chances of getting 3 are ludicris.

One Time Events: Keep Them!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TransparentlyOpaque.1824

TransparentlyOpaque.1824

Generally only about 20% of the player base is playing during the prime time (about a 4 hour period), where as the other 80% are playing at various other times. Literally with these one time events, they are missing a huge portion of their player base. There shouldn’t be one time events, they need to have them happen over several days and repeat several times through out each day. Arenanet shouldn’t be making content that literally a minority of their player base is actually able to participate.

Your statistics are 100% wrong. Arenanet already stated that they run events when they have the highest player concurency.

One time events are crucial to the games health. It brings players back to the game. Its a great system, and I would expect them to keep it in place.

Not everyone got a precursor. Barely anyone did. Further, precursors now have a chance to drop elsewhere in game. Should everyone complain when people are fighting a world boss and someone gets lucking and gets a precursor?

One time events are what makes this game great. And, as a non subscription model game, offering 1 time events is an excellent way to motivate people to return to the game.

Anyone that does not make it to the event, still has a lot to experience- the event introduced a new zone, a new dungeon, new crafting, new armor- quite a bit of new. Every fan of the game gets the chance to experience more because of the event.

The event was ok, though several times I found myself pretty bored and would just set auto attack, and go do laundry/errands. It was tedious fighting the same impossibly slow to kill enemies for 2.5/3 hours just to get to a chest.

I’ve decided to skip the weekend event. I don’t feel like logging in.

I’m not sure when I’ll feel like it again…but even when/if I do, I won’t be wasting another dime on this game. I bought gems the first two months because I wanted to show ArenaNet that I supported the game they made, and I wanted them to fix the bugs and add more of the same great content. Instead, they took my money and used it to turn the game into something I don’t find even remotely fun, and which has sucked out my motivation to log into a game that I really, really enjoyed.

In short, they used my money to screw me over. I won’t make the mistake of paying them anything again. I hope the event is fun for the folks who see it.

hello there Drama kings/queens, Guild-war 1 puritists and anti-extra-stats-on-gear fundementalists

i will like to thank you for not playing the game, we already have enough of people in Lion’s Arch that makes it so laggy…

people still turn up for the event despite 200 pages of tears (Anet if you are reading it the lag is unacceptable) , and the dungeon is amazing.

please keep crying on the forum and stop log-in into thegame so the rest of us can enjoy a lag-free event

If you can manage to read through all of the tear soaked typing, you will see that a lot of it is the same few people posting over and over again. I clicked on a few of the hyper negative posters and view their history, and some of them have 20+ posts in this thread.

Its hard to really gauge how many people are hardcore upset with the changes, because the few that are crowding the thread with their drama.

For me, its still the same game for now. Im not that impressed with the new event, but there sure was a massive lag inducing turn out- so there is still a massive crowd that is interested in the game.

TransparentlyOpaque.1824

I understand that the FoM is gated only as you have reached a few runs into the dungeon, but still eventually it becomes necessary that everyone in your party has “agony resistant” gear.

From what I can see, the FoM levels are small single room areas akin to small arenas that will probably have waves of “harder” enemies as you progress farther. Thats fine, it may be ok and even interesting, if that mechanic remains soley in the FoM dungeon.

Im more curious if Arenanet will make more full length dungeons with a story and more full sets of distinct armor sets, rather then repeating more “endless fractal” mini dungeons.

Looking at what has been revealed with the Fractals of the mist dungeon, it seems to be an ok dungeon with a new approach. Not everyone likes the style of having a “gated” portion of content.

I am hoping that Arenanet continues to further develop new dungeons, in the same style as the existing options with no gating mechanism, and adds new “vanity” armor sets to work towards.

TransparentlyOpaque.1824

Im not sure how this will impact my playing experience.

I almost have am full exotic set on one character, and was feeling comfortable that maybe I could start working on some alts, but with the introduction of higher tier gear I do not want to lose the time I put into making the character competitive.

Though on the other hand, I like having items to work towards. The implementation is going to be key here, since at start, they are only adding rings and backslots. So that slows down players from achieving a full “Ascended” set immediately, and gives people time to get themselves some ascended pieces. They already mentioned that some pieces will be craftable in the forge, so there is at least one other alternative available to obtaining Ascended gear instead of grinding the dungeon to death.

We will see how things pan out on Friday.

Why Is ANet Secretive about GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TransparentlyOpaque.1824

TransparentlyOpaque.1824

If I were ArenaNet, I wouldn’t want to depend on hype and risk broken promises. For example, I remember when Diablo III came out, Blizzard stated they were working on a PvP system for patch 1.1. That has yet to happen. I had a lot of friends who actually bought Diablo III expecting a PvP system soon after launch.

I also remember EA talking about how they were working on guild capital ships for the Old Republic soon after the game was released. That has also yet to happen.

ArenaNet already talked about how they were considering things like a dueling feature and were working on guild battles, a ranking system, and more enjoyable dungeons. Not sure what else you want from them.

This is exactly how I view the situation. If you watch the market, other games that have been too forward with revealing what projects they have going on behind the scenes have had some severe backlash when they did not deliver quickly(or ever).

I think anet is doing a fair job at keeping people informed. Some people expect them to be on the forum 24/7. While that would be fantastic, when would they work on the game?

PS. Reopening a topic that was closed is likely to end badly.

How deep is this Endgame Dungeon? (Lost Shore)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TransparentlyOpaque.1824

TransparentlyOpaque.1824

I’m not really following all news about Lost Shores… Where does this “Endgame Dungeon” story come from?

It will be a new type of Dungeon released in the Lost Shore map.

This is what you would consider a Challenge dungeon where the deeper you go the harder it becomes but the higher the quality of the rewards the farther you go. The developers did say there is a possible end to this dungeon but reaching it isn’t something you can do in a day.

Basically like those 100 floor dungeons you see at the end of RPGs after you complete the game.

I do not think they 100% said that it was a new dungeon type, just one that gets progressively harder the further you go down. That could just mean its a new dungeon, tweaked so that the lesser enemies are not tougher then the endboss.

They did say a new pve mode is coming too, which could be an endless dungeon, but those are 2 separately announced additions with the patch.

After getting little tidbits about how it is going to be progressively harder as you get further into the dungeon, not knowing what to expect is driving me insane!

Will it be in the same format of the exisiting dungeons, with a story, and 3 explorable paths? Is it progressively harder dugeon, implying that the enemies ramp up in difficulty up until the last boss which will be the biggest challenge? Some of the dungeons now have some of the lesser enemies are actually more difficult then the final boss.

Or is is some sort of endless dungeon that keeps getting harder and harder until you just die?

Additional Dungeon Paths 5, 6, 7

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: TransparentlyOpaque.1824

Will dungeons ever get addtional paths? Im sure a lot of the dungeons could be made to have at least 1 additional route added. Since the instance(s) is already built, a significant amount of the work is already completed.

With additional paths, could also come more options added to the vendors. Maybe just an additional “elite” hat/helmet (cosmetic value ala Legendary Weapons, costing a high amount of dungeon tokens).

Adding path(s) could bring some more replayability / longevitiy to content down the line.

First, it’s intentional for LA to be the main hub for the population.

Second you can see all kinds of evidence of unfinished things in the other cities. Home instances, probable minigames, the giant gaping hole in Divinity’s Reach…

These are all things that will eventually be added to, to give you reason to at least visit these areas from time to time.

LA will still be the hub, though.

I would not argue that LA will be a major hub. Though Divinitys Reach is a huge elaborate and beautiful area, that is currently used for almost no content.

Perhaps in the future they will add a sewer system/outlaw underworld that is filled with bandits- maybe another dungeon. That Superior Sigil of the Outlaw/Bandit just does not hold much use outside of Caudecous Manor!

Dungeons are not too hard at all. Sure, its not like running around and defeathering moas, but thats the best part! I beat just about every dungeon I tried, with pick up groups every single time.

The only one that I did not complete once, was the seraph path in Caudacous Manor. And that was because we had a Russian player who did not understand the barrel run. We did it at least 15—20 times, just having fun. Everytime he would run it to the gate, or throw the barrel. We told him, “you do not throw the barrel, you put it in the circle by using the swap weapon key” he responded " THROW BARREL?". It was pretty funny. We did not complete the level and he felt bad saying he would “never finish it is to hard”. We just laughed and told him he would one day.

If you cannot beat it the first try, there is always another time. Won’t it feel good the first time you finally beat one of the dungeons?

Im really hoping that the new dungeon is insane difficult. I like challenges, not completing dungeon just because I showed up.
