Its really just an very short term event. Really nothing in terms of the rest of the games content. Leaving because of one game event seems a bit dramatic.
Patience is needed in these types of games, as they are intended to be around and expanded for years. If you want everything a month and a few weeks into the game, then your expectations are a bit too high.
Conversely, if you had everything you wanted in game right now, what would be the incentive to play?
They look ok, though out of the entire group, they are the skin that probably ranks on the bottom in terms of appeal.
I would have like daggers that were actual snakes that moved when sheathed, and when you drew them, became magically daggar rigid though still snake shaped. Or even the opposite!

The gem to gold conversion is pretty good right now. And there are other ways to generate in game money too that are really easy. Selling things, doing events, gathering.
In games of chance, you should always go in ready to lose. Designate an amount of money you do not mind spending before hand, and then use only that amount. Its a chance you get something good, but count on it being likely you will not hit the jackpot.
I suppose Anet could add some purchasable weapon skins to make people happy. Though at what price do they sell the skins? They deserve compensation for their work in making the skin, right?
With the gold to gem conversion available, people do not really have to spend money directly on gems. The weapon skins are entirely optional- and you have options available for aqquiring them along the way.
If you want a skin and do not want to “chance” aquiring it, then use your in game currency to buy one off the trading post.
Further, we are getting different skins for just playing the game as the event unfolds. Its not a bad take away really.
I used about 1000 gems worth of keys, and disposed of some of the what I thought was fluff tonics and boosters before they implemented the Mad King Chests. Im not really that upset, maybe slightly disappointed, but I do not expect anything strictly given to me in life.
PS. Maybe they named this the Mad King event because they knew a number of players would be mad about some skins being in chests! And some of them act like they are having a competition to see who could possibly complain with the most venom to be crowned the actual MAD king!
Does this mean that there will be new skins with each act? Sorry i don’t remember seeing that mentioned officially anywhere.
I do not think so, but maybe they will give a new mad king themed item after finishing the next sequence.
No confirmation yet, though they may just layer the events, so people joining in late can complete the earlier acts as well.
Is it going live tonight at midnight, technically the 26th?
everyone does everything
LoL all the anticipation, everyone is zerging the servers and will probably crash them!
HEY-
They still have 3 hours and 45 minutes before its the 23rd in PST.
:)
They are cutting it a bit close :O
I think the fact that nothing has halloween decoration yet should give it away…
Will WvW borderlands and EB be themed for Halloween?
The halloween weapons will be in Wvw if people buy, craft, find them.
One thing I am curious over, is if the halloween skins have effects, like legendary weapons. Web shooing spider bow?
Whats the question?
You can purchase some with gems, yes. You can trade in game gold for gems in the BLTC.
You can buy gems with credit card, paypal.
Any other questions?
So let me get this straight, it hasn’t started for ANYONE yet, right?
Im playing it right now.
Who can tell me Moscow time start? )
about 2 hours. nazdrovia
er… no. it’ll stop at the exact same time, but it’ll be nov 2nd euro and nov 1st US. seems like a day longer, but it isnt.
And it will start at exactly the same time…. thats the entire point
Its a shame that you will probably have it a day after it is cancelled for players in the US. :P
Don’t open anything, no sign that the event has started yet.
Try in a few hours, im sure we will know when it arrives.
I bet mid-day Monday, to stagger the server load since various people around the world will be working/schooling/sleeping.
Were people suprise that many GW2 players are complaining about PVE Endgame?
Posted by: TransparentlyOpaque.1824
Im not surprised that a small group of people complain, its like that everywhere in life. Someone will always complain, even if they are given something really great.
I think like the other updates.
Thieves having infinite stealth? Hack or Trait? Terrible WvW experience

It is abuse of mechanics, and being looked into by the devs.
Imagine that Arenanet add content at level cap i.e. level 80 and they don’t increase the level cap. What kind of rewards and achievements could they add that would satisfy the people who need to have rewards to play the game?
For me the legendaries don’t add a lot, because, as things stand, to get them you have to play the game with a grinding mentality and for me that ruins the sense of immersion in a virtual world and turns it into a numbers game. I don’t want to play just for the sake of ticking off things on a list. But, no loot at all is a big detraction from the gameplay – it’s great to have that feeling that round the next corner might be a treasure chest…, that’s been an essential feature of RPGs since they were first invented and is pretty much the whole rationale behind having a levelling system (since you can get increasingly better rewards as you level).
They can always add more dungeons with new armor sets, or just new armor sets in general. That would give people something to “achieve”.
I think the way they are positioning the game as a potential esports contender, they are not at all likely to add any sort of “gear treadmill” where ever increasing power in gear dictates automatically who wins a match even if they are not the better player- sorry hamsters, you will not be running the same wheel in this game.
How long do you want the event to last? A month? Its an event centered around a single day “holiday”.
Not everyone will be able to make every event, but im sure most people will be able to see at least a portion. Sounds good to me really.
Im sure tomorrow they will post a little more details, since its less than 1 day left until launch.
We will have free stuff, and stuff to earn during the week.
Yeah I’m not a fan if this… sigh
The chest I receive, will they always remain in my bags even after the event or will they go away when the event is over? I won’t be buying keys so I’ll most likely sit on the chest till I happen to get a key.
Also if I do get a key 4 months later and open a chest will it still drop halloween items even though the event is over?
You can only get the Halloween weapon skin during the Halloween event, ending Nov 5.
Rich people only. :O
Or trade your gold for gems, you know you can do that right? If you are a farmer, then you should have no issue at all collecting in game silver and gold to convert to gems.
You use normal keys to open the chests yes, there won’t be an additional chest type for Halloween, it’ll simply be that the existing black lion chests have new items that can be found in them during the 10 day Halloween festivities.
And also since I’m sure someone will ask this, yes there are loads of other Halloween rewards you can earn over the course of the festival that don’t come out of these chests!
And finally, make sure to be around on Sunday October 28th mid-day pacific time, you’re NOT going to want to miss it!
Why? Will it be a grand event? Free items? A one time world changing occurence?
I would think they may update some of them over time, but rather would hope they add other additional weapons/skins.
People love to collect things in these types of games, it would be a great way to draw and keep players.
I pondered a little bit on some of the things that could be added into wvwvw.
One idea that seems like it has potential, is a Krate of Bombs. They would cost supply to open/access, but not as much as a typical siege device- perhaps when you drop the Krate there are 5 bombs total per krate and each one cost 2-4 supply to take from the Krate.
It could open up a bit of options for smaller operation parties, and give individual players a bit more potential impact and roles on the battlefield. A small team could use the bombs to soften up walls or gates. Individual players could nominate themselves as kamakaziee bombers, distracting the enemy while the army sets up the real assault.
Mind you the damage level would not be insanely high, but if left unchecked, a full krateload of bombs will make a (smallish)dent in the HP of a Wall/Gate.
Perhaps it could also be a playing field leveler- maybe it only becomes accessable when a server is losing or outmanned by a substancial amount. The “outmanned” buff is ok, but frankly when you are facing the enemy numbers in those circumstances, those slight increases are not going to do much when a wave of 20-50 players comes rolling over you in a blur.
Bombs are already in the game, implementing them would not be too extensive.
Thats my thought, any comments or further ideas?

And thats about as in depth as the write was- they are leaving a lot for surprise discovery, and probably some reveals on Monday.
That’s the homepage and it says nothing… please just post a link of these notes.
Are you talking about this page? http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shadow_of_the_Mad_King I just found that but it doesn’t give any reference for where the info came from? Aside from this page that doesn’t give any info at all – https://www.guildwars2.com/en/events/halloween-2012
They did have a Halloween preview page, a week ago, that had a paragragh at the end titled Tyria Evolving, stating those things I mentioned above. I think it was replaced by the current Halloween news.
More bosses, more mini dungeons, more DEs, more jumping puzzles. Those are expected next week as well.
So what else to you want them to add?
People want to know if they should go out this weekend, or save money for chances to get skins!
Im pretty sure it applies to all an any chest, opened up between oct 22 until nov 5 as it states in the write up.
And if you read the write up further, you do not get a weapon with stats- it is a “skin”. No harm, no foul. As long as its pay to “skin” and not pay to win, everything is fine.
You get free devil horns.
You just make a party, and enter the instance- boom co op story mode!
Or something like “show up in Lions Arch during the week of Halloween event”
Expansions will cost money. If there is a box associated with the update, then no gem purchases will be allowed for full access. No developer would risk potentially cutting their income.
Im not a game developer, but I do value my time and efforts I put into my work. If I put months/years worth of my time into my company, I would not be pleased when my efforts went unrewarded and people received my goods without compensating me for my hard work.
Now, on the other hand, I could see allowing access for certain portions of an expansion for gem purchases. Access to an expansion area, mini game, costumes and etc. But if you want to play, you have to pay.
I have a feeling that they will not release a lot of “teaser” information. As someone else stated, its easy for things to be delayed or halted for some reason or another, and then hear big backlash about it for the duration of the games life.
That said, I would love it if they talked about or gave a few screenshots of near completed upcoming content.
It would be interesting to know, but hardly essential to the expansion of the game. There are lots of player, still queues for wvwvw, and further any fluctuation in players does not clearly indicate how much total revenue the game is generating.
Gem shop sales also factor in, and there are some people that spend $100+ in gems, and conversely some that spend $0. As well as others that spend any amount in between.
Im not typically one to buy extras in a game, but I really enjoy gw2, and will probably buy something at halloween if the quality is equal to what has been in game so far.
No, it is near a supply camp, not near a citadel. I would hate to reveal where it is if it is not intended.
Playing WvW this evening, I stumbled upon a group of opposing players who were baiting people to attack them in an odd area. They would then back up and sit in a location where they could attack, though our teams attacks would register as “invulnerable”.
It seemed to me that this was an exploit. It is not at a location with a door, but an area they simply walk up and down freely. I took photos if proof is required, and it is easily repeatable by any team in that location. I hesitate to tell where this location is, because it was quite annoying and I would hate to see this action become widespread.

Heavy armor creates a problem, in that they are very survivable classes and prone to being “overpowered”, because they typically come with high health and pretty high damage.
Definitely, but to be honest it hasn’t been worth much more than 60$ up to this point.
That could very easily change if end-game content is added however.
Thats a funny statement, because the total mandatory buy in cost is $60… and yet you feel it is worth more, and still want even more further because its only worth more then $60? Its an ironic statment.
What do you consider end game content?
The answer to this question is the Thief. With the ablity to steath abuse, and further steath while they FINISH you, the Theif is filled with grief.
Aren’t we talking about launch here?
wow launch was 20 years ago. What else do you want to compare the game too?
SWTOR? They made a game thats not capable of supporting multiple players in battle without massive computer breaking lag and stuttering. Thats all i’ve got, never touched an “mmo” prior to that game.
And im lucky because that single game nearly made me give up on video games entirely, I thought perhaps I was just growing out of them. I gave GW2 a shot because I heard about it on swtor website and I am so glad. So at least swtor gave me gw2
Some things are not completely fuctional, though they are being fixed- what else could you ask for really? A perfect world were everything is exactly what you want and say? Sounds like what some of you are asking for with your threads.
Yes, they only want elitist players to be able to experience the content.
lol. They did not say specifically if the content is open to all, but considering the game has an upleveling system already programmed, im sure they would use that if the halloween content was level 80 material- because not everyone rushed to 80.

“The world would be such a nicer place if we forget things the moment its due date is up. All those international incidents causing millions of casualties, forgotten, just like that, because its all history right?”
Uhhh what? As far as I know, millions of casualties have not been caused by this game. Not even one yet as far as anyone knows- lol?
