Why Legendary Weapons looks like that?

More legendary of all kinds would of course be welcomed.

As an elementalist, I really want to see the bifrost in action. The picture does not seem to do it much justice, just looks like a skeletal staff with an odd “anatomical” shaped head.

Also, any staff with a Skull on top would make a nice addition, maybe a daemon head so it can be “legendary”!
With a name like bifrost, I was expecting some sort of ice shard staff with a translucent water like crystal ball rotating on top.

Seems that the majority of the negative posters have no solid proof for any claims of the game “dying”. Anecdotal evidence is meaningless.

The poster Dusk makes some viable counter points, with evidence that can easily be reproduced by anyone that logs into the game, and what are the responses? Nasty personal attacks is the best rebuttal? Attempting to cyber bully is inappropriate, and it really shows your ages.

Too bad you cannot enjoy the game, thank you for supporting it with your purchase, and have fun playing pandas, or whatever you think is a game that is “living”… lol.

@ Andrew: Fair enough. I never played a trooper. Just the imp classes before I quit. When the FTP starts I’ll be checking out pub side! Thus far I’ve yet to have a single “ERMAHGERD!” moment in GW2 from the story, though. A couple chuckles about apples and fear of undead cattle, but nothing that gave me goosebumps like TOR.

Story isn’t GW2’s strong point, imo. But it makes up for it in other aspects, as previously mentioned. Combat is superb.

Goosebumps from what in TOR? You obviously tried a different class then I leveled all the way. No goosebumps here, just spacebar tapping after about 1/2 through the story.

For me, GW2 has had more amusing story and voice content by far. I cannot even remember all the times I laughed, smiled, chuckled at some of the great lines and even just some side commentary from an NPC.

So which “all the game forums” are talking bad about GW2? I have not seen much bad at all, besides the same few names that pop up repeatedly- saying the same broken record track all day long.

Vitriol? Hate speech? Trolls and “fanbois”? I have only tried one other MMO type game. You will notice that all the forums repeat the nearly the same exact word for word rubish. I have noticed that there is a core crowd of MMO player that loves boring repetition, be it in game play or in forum posting content.

Insert Wow panda expansion, TOR or any other MMO name into any of the negative commentary, it fits just the same.

The sales of the game, the excellent reviews and the number of happy players of GW2 paint the true story.

This game has the least complicated ability system I’ve ever played. I think it’s cute that so many people are trying to argue that their class is hard. News flash: they’re all easy. It’s sad. I don’t even have to use half the buttons on my mouse for this game. It’s thoughtless. What you are experiencing is denial.

Well, I see you have very productive comments. Thank you for your amazing commentary, you seem like a fun person to be around.

I should say of course they want and appreciate continuted patronage. More income is always appreciated in any business. And you touched upon the good qualities of the buy to play system- you are not forced to buy the gems with real life money, you can simply play the game and exchange gold for gems.

Are you proposing that you want some sort of fan thank you letter or in game reward?

News flash! In order to trade gold for gems some one has to buy the gems first.

Im not sure what game you are playing.

Anyone cana currency exchange where you trade some gold earned in game, and get gems in exchange. Then I can use those gems to make store purchases. Your statement is boggling really, you have to buy the gems, to buy the gems with gold?

I have not had to purchase any gems at all, though I likely will just to add my support further to the game.

Then they released a game that is a step backwards for the genre in terms of creativity and content. All they did was change things up on the interface and make it so you don’t pick up/turn in quests.

The content itself is as stale as it gets. The classes are the shallowest in the genre. Everything about GW2 was tired upon release.

My response it this… that is your personal opinion and not fact. I disagree with it because I am personally not finding these issues. In my opinion they gave me everything they promised and then some nice little cookies that wern’t advertised.

Does the game have some problems… sure it does absolutely. No game less than 1 month from launch didn’t have problems. They are working on issues as we speak. I have only ran into 1 bug so far.. a skill point in WvW was missing, the one at the centar camp. We all reported it… I went and did other things. A few hours later it was fixed… it think it was like 3-4 hours, can’t recall.

Point is there is so much to do that it did not interrupt any game play for me. I just moved on. And that is the main issue for alot of gamers unsatisfied here, they cannot move on.

They spent $60 on a game they are not happy with. It sux, I know. I have dont it myself a few times. You buy a game with preconcieved notions or high expectations etc, and the game dosen’t live up to it. You feel like you wasted your money. Such is life.

Sometimes you just have to suck it up and swallow the self intitlement and move on to a different game. The world will continue to revolve, the universe will continue to expand and games will continue to be produced. Gammers will continue to whine and demand everything they think they deserve etc. It’s a never ending cycle.

How will games ever improve if only positive feedback is allowed and anyone with criticism should “just move on”?

This makes no sense to me.

It’s important to note that they probably shouldn’t have called this Guild Wars 2 because it is nothing like the 1st game. Can’t blame people who loved the 1st game only to be shocked at how watered down the 2nd game is in terms of complexity.

Its not surprising it does not make sense to you, when you are the prime example of the thread topic.

There is little point in evaluating negative opinions of someone that does not like the game. Sure, its valid that you have a negative opinion of the game. Feel better now?

Now we can move on, and someone can post a real criticism that actually has intent to be helpful to the games future development.

Anet are proud of what the dungeons are. They want you to have to repeat it 50 times. They think this makes the gear “worth it”.

The fans aren’t justifying their sub fee, they’re justifying their hype for so long. They’re trying to internally rationalize in any way they can that the game is good.

They lay blame on any scapegoat they can find, be it “scrubs” “noobs” “whiners” “wowpandas” whatever they can think of no matter how tenuous.

The game is already turning out like TOR, where the majority of the people still playing are diehard zealots who cannot bring themselves to admit that the game is a shallow and tedious experience at endgame.

Anet doesn’t care. They have our money.

Dont you dare compare this game to that abomination.

We will see what happens with the game in the next few months. More free and frequent content than other MMOS has been promised, we will see if they deliver. Its still new, only almost a month old. And already, this game is infinately better than TOR.

Everything is just about great but there’s one big problem… it’s simply not addictive. As I’m leveling up, I don’t feel stronger at all and I don’t feel rewarded. Even the skills that I unlock are really boring compared to gw1. A bunch of generic shouts/signets that give damage/crit/etc. I find myself asking myself why I should even load the game, what can I do that is fun.

Gw2 has failed to be “revolutionary”.

Very simplistic argument, but inherently correct. Indeed the game as not made it into one cohesive and enjoyable experience. There was too much enphasis in just trying to break with everything and everyone to make something different, but the fact is it didnt work at all.
I mean, why even break with the things you accomplished in GW1 and worked? Its like a little child just making a hiss, just cause. There was no cohesive whole to this game. It feels like several people made their own part of the game and then they just glued it together and called it done, even though it doesnt mesh together.

What are you talking about? You make very vague commentary, it seems very passive aggressive. Explain how the game is “glued together”.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you are not happy with the “end game” and how you aquire the legendary sets, thats a valid point of view as a personal opinion. The legendary sets seem to be purely optional asthetic options for people who actually enjoy the game. Why does that make you angry?

No matter how hard an entertainment company tries, they will never please everyone. If you are not happy, take your receipt and ask for your money back, and failing that I would say do the reasonable thing and do not play any more or even just wait for more content to be released.

To be heard, understood and responded to about your questions/concerns, thinking things through and making a concise statement about what you want from the game and why and how it should be done would be better all around.

After reading this entire thread, im not quite sure what you want from the game. It seems like high blood pressure maniacal ravings. “Give me what I want and I want it NOW!!!!!” Im sure you have a point to your angry rant, but its become lost in the sea of angriness and political commentary.

What I was able to piece together from your postings, is that you want the optional cosmetic legendary/exotic items. But you are not really willing to put in the time to obtain them in game. What is the difference, I have heard the stats are not any higher than standard gear, so what is the point of contention with the game?

I understand what content the game has to offer, and im approaching it knowing what I am getting for my money. I think the dollar to gameplay value is tremendous. And further, there will be more FREE content releases coming, im sure in the near future.

I did my first dungeon yesterday. I thought it was fun, it continued my storyline, and I did end up with a rare that had better stats than what I had equiped. Thats winning.

I rewatched the trailer. It still made me laugh, which I guess is good.

I was amused by the parkore punk girl wearing a gas mask, I was unsure why she had it on while running and jumping the fence, but then I realized that she was wearing it to avoid inhaling the fumes and contaminates from the spray can she was using to tag. And I thought she was just a hipster!

In the end, it is way better for the game that they made the trailer they did, rather than wasting a bunch of money on some CGI video that has nothing to do with the actual gameplay- take SWTOR for example, those trailers were pretty good, and exciting… and then you play the game which is a real bore.

Keep putting the $$$ money where it matters, into the actual game development.

It’s the skinner box.

A design concept that has plagued MMOs so hard people genuinely think it’s good.
It’s how you keep subs up, creating the illusion that you’re progressing.

In reality, you don’t though, you still stay in the same city, doing the same raid until you move onto a new raid and repeat until updates stop.

To these people this is all that endgame can possibly be, shuffling you onto the assembly line for no real reason. It may as well be cosmetic because the bosses scale up and you don’t unlock anything new.

I want GW2 to change this, but it won’t because this concept has been so deeply entrenched into the genre that it’s become a core design.

I agree with your post, but I don’t see how it needs to be a core design for GW. Basically, since there’s no subscription, there’s no need for hamster wheels; and there’s no reason for Anet to listen to people are so conditioned to hamster wheels that they really want them, either.

All Anet has to do is to ensure that there are enough people concurrent to keep the game world lively, and there are enough people who have enjoyed the game to a degree that they’re willing to buy another expansion a year down the line.

Neither of those two desiderata require Anet to design hamster wheels or skinner boxes.

Stop with the ’there’s no sub fee so ANet doesn’t care if ppl play’ stuff. ANet needs players to buy things in the cash shop to continue upkeep of the game. Without players, GW2 will not thrive.

No matter what the amount of content in a game, you can be assured that there will be a group of people that slam through the game. There could be 200+ viable hours of content in this game, and regardless, people will just sit at the computer and mow it all down like nothing.

Power through it all until they are finished and then demand more IMMEDIATELY! It is comparable to a drug addicts behavior- give them a huge amount of the substance for free, they will take it all in record time and still need more.

Maybe they are going through withdrawl? It is a good game. I honestly can envision some of the people posting shaking with need for more game !

Those are some pretty fantastic ideas actually.

Carrying the cannonball to the cannon gives you one shot that starts a timer immediately upon pressing f to load the cannon with the cannonball you just retrieved. That way no one hogs the cannon, and its not just an endless cannon spam, and organizing boarding parties is encouraged.

Of course there can be other objectives on the map, islands with buried treasures, more Quaggans(they are hilarious), an underwater boss- RELEASE THE KRAKKEN!!!!!!

There are a lot of options that could be viable. And ANet already took a step in the pirate direction with the purchasable pirate gear. Time to increase pirate gear sales and give the players a pirate fight!

In my mind, most of this idea is already implemented in the game, it is sort of a smaller scale WvW siege. The only thing not in game is a functioning row boat model. There is actually a row boat in Lions gate that caught my eye near the cooking station in a canal. I went and sat in it for about half an hour just because!

And I agree, more systems and features really help to enrich the game, and give everyone more content.

Thinking about the future of the game, I had this thought about another form of PvP or a Team Mini Game.

Pirate Vs Pirate!

I imagine 2 ships on a body of water. Each ship is equipped with cannons, row boats and a crows nest. It would be ideal if this was an objective based scenario where you either destroy points on the other ship with cannon fire and other attacks, or board and take control of the other ship.

Cannons, Sails, Eagles Nest and parts of the ship are targetable and losing each one has some sort of detriment. Each ship has a limited supply deck that they can use to repair destroyed or damaged parts of the ship. If all the destructable points on a ship are destroyed, then that ship sinks and the opposing team wins.

To board the other ship, you would need to plan rowboat boarding parties. Swimming to the other ship would not be viable, the waters should be shark infested to make swimming across a poor option. Enemy ship cannons can target rowboats and watch the chaos if they hit and sink the ship, and the enemy has to deal with hungry sharks!

There are a lot of pirate assets already in the game, it would be fairly easy to make use of them and expand the game. The pirate theme could be further expanded and you could offer other pirate costumes that a player and earn or purchase.

“There will be new content, both free and paid. Colin Johanson is on record stating that ANet intends to give us more content for free than any other MMO releases. "

It will be interesting to see if they can make true on this. I came from another game which gives a lot of content and very often. The problem is a lot of that content is not quality. So I hope that this “more content for free than any other MMO releases” is exactly that – quality. Although I am sure it will be after seeing all the things I have seen both in the game and over the past few months keeping up todate with the state of the game etc.

Now as to this “Endgame” that everyone keeps going on about, another reason I looked forward to this game was that there would be NO endgame. Or put more correctly everyone would have access to all the “Cool stuff” right through from level 1 to level 80. So perhaps we all have to change our perspective on that. Perhaps the question we should be asking is not “what cool things can they give level 80’s or what can we do to make dungeons more fun etc?”, should be “what new cool things can we add to the game to keep us entertained and challenged”? Also if dungeons are not fun right now perhaps they should look at why they are not fun and fix what is wrong with that.

There are things I am sure Anet are planning on to answer that question. I am hoping they are more in the forms of minigames such as the current keg brawling. I think adding things like this with collectable rewards/titles is the way to go to keep the game fresh and fun for everyone.

There is so much that can be fun in games that we can have here if we only pool our ideas together and let them be heard and decided on by Anet. Mmos don’t have to always be – grind – kill monsters – raid/dungeon runs whatever – craft a little – get bored, next game.

Things can to be added that are fun in themselves for doing. Well thats my 2 copper worth anyway. :P

This is a very sensible post.

People need a sense of reward. Adding more sort of collectible items would be a non game changing way of giving players more sense of “progression”. And further mini games would be nice as well.

What this game really needs is PvP – Pirate vs Pirate! A pvp game where players try to destroy or board and capture the other teams ship. Man cannons, use row boats, and fill the water with deadly sharks so swimming over to the enemy ship is not a great option. It would be great, imagine shooting an enemy boarding partys row boat with a cannon and seeing them eaten by sharks!

A lot of the people who have rushed to level 80 are WoW players, and are uncomfortable with the mechanics in GW2.

From what you wrote, you are enjoying the game, noticing the small details, and having fun. That is the main point of a game, right?

The PVP, WvWvW and sPVP, along with “dungeons” are what is considered to be the end game currently, as well as working toward legendary gear and crafting.

To know what we have to look forward to, you will have to check in with the developers when they make their blog and press release about what the future content releases will contain and the direction of the game. That should happen within the next few weeks to a month.

Don't Cave

Posted by: TransparentlyOpaque.1824

TransparentlyOpaque.1824

That’s it. The title. Don’t cave in. Yes this is directed to ANet, but you can’t say that in the title so hey.

Don’t cave in. Don’t give in. You guys made a game, and you guys made a game that you could be passionate about. That you had all these ideas for that took years to get working.

So make your game. Make it the way you want to make it. (Or… continue… to make it? Whatever works.) Because this is your game, your baby.

People that don’t ‘get’ the game? They don’t get it. And they probably won’t continue to play. People that want to massively change the game’s systems or how certain things work probably fall under this category.

But at the same time, don’t forget about us, the little people who bought your game. Because some of us do have pretty good ideas.

Even so, this is your game. You honestly don’t have to listen to any of us. And I hope that when you -do- listen to us, it’s because you want to, not because you feel forced to.

Don’t cave in. =3

Worst advice ever. Go over to the Diablo 3 forums and see what not listening to their customers did to their reputation. Or you could look at the dozens of failed MMO’s out there. I saw posts like yours on every one of their forums.

You cannot viably compare this game to Diablo 3- there was no fixing D3 when it released as a pile of kitten. You have to have a good foundation, or you will not be able to build.

GW2 has a pretty good foundation. Anet seems to have a good grasp on what people want in the game, and will likely make advances toward what the majority of players would like in the game.

Its a good game, with over 2 million copys sold, and they actually stopped sales of the game on their own website at launch- thats a bold move, and indicates that the sales/profit of the game were quite good. They are in a solid place, and I think they can continue in the direction they are headed, as a lot of people really like the game.

Like the game, but would like an aspect improved upon or expanded? Write a constructive post explaining way you would like a change, and what benefit that change would have on the game.

I say to you, there is no sub. How much money did you drop into the cash shop? I would wager most of you did not buy any gems at all, just power gamed to the end of this new series.

Another thing I notice, is a theme amoung the people who complain, is that they say they have “finished” the game, and put in 200+ hours. Thats ridiculous. To spend over 10 hours a day on the game and to go on as if you really do not like the game? Its an odd person that will spend 8+ days of their life in a leisure activity they “hate”.

I hope Anet can do something to appease you power gamers, though I really wonder if you are their target audience. If you slammed through the game already, you are not really interested in the core concept of GW2, and rather just want more to power through- and thats fine though for a lot of you there will never ever be enough content. You will just eat it up in a few days and want more.

As a free too play game, it is in the companys best interest to keep a stream of content coming to the game, so players are logged on, and hopefully spending some money in the cash shop.

The thing you should remember is that it is a new game. Im waiting for news of what is to come as well, though I think I can wait at least a month before I start to wonder whats going on with the games future content. Please show some modicum of patience.

Thank you

My thought here is that when we have something good, we always want more!

Im only level 38 or 39, and I actually bought into the game prerelease. Your level of time commitment must be pretty high, I feel like I have played quite a bit and still not reached level cap or seen most of the world map.

Though I would agree, I do think there is always some room for improvement, and right now im optimistic that the game can only get better.

Dueling?

Dueling in an arena sounds like it could be fun. Confining dueling to arenas would make acceptable to everyone, that way if you had no interest in dueling, then you would not enter the arena.

I really like the idea of an arena for dueling, that would allow for spectators. Since the game is “skill” based, and pretty to watch, it could be fun just to sit in the stands and watch / bet / drink with other players as well. Could be very entertaining.

They could even add a PvE aspect where a small team of gladiators fights creatures, monsters and so on. It has lots of possibilites.

Also, they could add a gladiator skin set for players who put in their time in the arena. It would be another achievement for players to seek, and probably a fairly easy content to add to the game.

Frustrations over lack of endgame

Is anyone that is complaining purchasing anything from the cash store? No? Well you have nothing to complain about- yet.

The game just released, and you put in how many hours to get to the end? You probably got your moneys worth. Let them work out the bugs, and make sure the base game is running smooth.

After a month or so they will announce the future plans for the game and probably talk about some upcoming content releases- at that point, if nothing is being said about additional end game content, then you have something to complain about.

Are Loading Times Getting Longer?

I noticed that yesterday when I loaded up the game. It took a while longer than usual. Today after a patch is seems back to quick loads.

My honest thoughts on Guild Wars 2 so far.

There are a lot of different types of players that come to GW2 for different reasons. I personally like the style of the game, the action content, the interactions I see in the citys between the npcs are great, and it has a lot more to offer me, I am still just under level 40.

The games “longevity” depends on how the developers go about delivering content. Since the game is free, it is in the best interest of the company to frequently release content that people will return to the game to play.

The extra profit of the game relies on purchases out of their cash shop- how much money are you going to spend in the cash shop if you chew through the entire game in days or weeks? Im sure they will continue to add more “endgame” content, as they want people to stay in game and potentially buy some of the digital goods.

One thing I wonder, is how many of the people who devoured the games content actually bought something in the cash store? That group of people can take a break from the game, and its really no worries for them since they have no extra money riding on the game as they would in a subscription based game.

And for those content hungry players, they can take comfort in knowing there will be expansions for them to play, as well as free content updates.

Endgame... Reimagined? What?

No one responded, so I’ll suggest it again. Can’t they just make multiple versions of the same ‘zone’. Then there will never be too many people for a DE. Will make DE’s more difficult due to less folks.

No DE’s scale for the people there and instancing zones is just a terrible SWTOR mechanic that failed miserably.

That is very true, separating players is an old school way of adjusting difficultly level. And people are tired of the old methods. That is why it is amusing that people come to play GW2 and then say hey I came here to play a different progressive style game, but would you make it like old school “game x”?

Sure, some DEs need tweaking for higher difficulty with more players involved- im sure that will be addressed.

PvE is VITAL to an MMO’s success even this one.

If Arena-net have plans, instead of making stupid articles telling us what “MINOR” content we can do once we hit 80 that we mostly have already done, why don’t they come out and say:

“Hey, we hear you PvE lovers, our PvE Team is slaving hard away to rebalance loot tables, make more engaging encounters, make HEAVY adjustments to the token grind and we aim to eventually release 10-15 man content as we know alot of people really love this instead of 5 mans for eternity when even Guild Wars 1 had 8.”

“We have spent the last few years creating a great journey and PvP system, now that it is done, we wish to make an end-game PvE experiance that rivals the best such as world of warcraft”

That would please ALOT of people.

I disagree that PvE is vital to an MMO being successful. I assume this is because we have differing opinions on what is considered successful. For an MMO to be successful, it does not need to be the largest MMO in history. It doesn’t need to have the most active subscriptions. All it really needs to do is have a dedicated playerbase that enjoys the game.

You… are… embracing mediocrity, it is making me sick tbh. evem with this game’s pvp content WoW still has more of it in each expansion.

Do you see the point? if WoW can do all elements why shouldn’t this game? what benefit do arenanet or WE have by discluding the most popular mechanic of MMOs?

Honestly, yes you have an opinion, but…. recognize where a company is short falling and why people are frustrated GRINDING TOKENS IN CRAP DUNGEONS SUCKS.

No one is forcing you to play, if GW2 is not your cup of tea, you can go pay to play WOW- and not have to worry about paying for GW2. Whats the tissue-issue?

God how I hate this kind of comment, all it does is show your ignorance.

Everything people are saying here is fact, go look at the statistics if you think it is merely opinion based. You can’t tell people what to enjoy like someone else said, and if you truly cared about the franchise I would think you would want it to be successful, even if being successful meant adding end game raiding or gear progression or any kind of progression at all.

What gamers want / look forward to in a mmo has changed so much since the first GW it’s naive to think that the current endgame and progression or lack there of, is going to hold anyone’s attention long except maybe the hardcore fan boys of the first installment. I do not understand why you all seem to hate the idea of end game progression so much, in fact using your logic…maybe that style of gameplay isn’t for you but hey no one is forcing to to do that stuff if they they implement it.

This game will have to adapt to have any sort of success or you fanboys will be playing on empty servers for years to come.

I and others tried to address your concerns and interests multiple times, but you insist on being negative. What else do you want a person to say?

Im not a “fanboy” of the original series(never played it), or mmos at all, but I do enjoy this game, and can see it being enjoyable for an extended period of time. I think that 2 million copies sold already equate to it being a success.

You have to consider that there is no mandatory payment every month to play the game. It is a free game that goes by a different set of rules and methods of generating income. It will have different gameplay because of the income methods. Maybe you want PVP with gear progression, where you buy the next piece of stat armor in the cash shop?

If you formulated a constructive arguement for why the game should have elements of other games, and some ideas of how it should work in game, im sure someone would listen.

My personal opinions on why I'm not playing anymore

I didnt like the game when I first played it, the BWE’s was too confusing with too much spells going on and fast cast everywhere, I really hated that.. until I tested the WvWvW and have to quickly learn how to use my skills and push/pull enemies like a real battle. Then, I returned to do some PvE and the attacks I though were fast and on steroids, suddendly slowed down.

Now, I can’t stop playing.

Since the style of game is different then the norm, it can be overwhelming at first. Some people just do not like a change, they want everything the same forever and fight any attempt at change.
