Experience with Thief: I play Thief since the release. I pretty much only play WvW either roaming or helping the zerg, but I’ve played a little bit of sPvP and PvE, but not much.
My prefered weaponsets are S/D or D/P and sometimes D/D, never really liked condi Thief much. I think I’m decent, but I still could improve my play quite a bit.
It could end up being as awful as people think it will be, in which case ANET will probably remove it from the new Borderlands, even if it will take 6 months until they do so…
I’m going to pick this point out of your post, because if past behavior from Anet is any indication, they absolutely do not like admitting they were wrong about something. It’s just not in the company culture genepool. Especially a massive feature like this that many hours and development dollars were likely put into developing. For better or worse, we’re going to be stuck with it.
Not necessarily, they also removed the old orb mechanic from WvW and even if they don’t remove it, they will probably nerf it like the ruin buff if it would really become a problem.
In my opinion just stay calm and see how things will play out.

But it also has a few advantages for the smaller teams, the huge servers will have to dedicate quite a few people to do the event, which will split up the enemy zerg for 15+ minutes. This will increase the fighting chance of smaller servers, because now they either face less enemies while taking objectives or they have to fight less enemies while trying to do the event.
Besides if you only have 5 people on your side and the enemy has 50+ then the event doesn’t matter, because the bigger server will easily control the entire map without it anyway.
Merciless Hammer is fine, 20% damage against disabled enemies sounds like a lot, but honestly avoiding hammer cc is not that difficult.
That’s the problem with Thieves in WvW, good solo/duo Roamers, but everywhere else? You’re better off playing another class. In most cases you will be a lot more usefull to your team that way.
Haven’t done the math, but probably from 41% to around 20%
It’s not going to be that bad against other direct damage builds, because they will obviously deal less damage aswell, but against bunkers and condis? that’s gonna be fun…
Interesting Idea, and finally an incentive for me to get some soldiers armor for my thief.
About the Stunbreakers, you don’t need them against Warriors If you can dodge well enough. You mainly need them when fighting outnumbered.
But I don’t know how much I like having only 30% crit chance, I already don’t crit enough with 45%…

1. Always auto-attack It may look dumb, but If you hit the Thief your auto-attack chain will continue, otherwise it won’t.(Note this doesn’t work with all weapons and especially not ranged weapons)
2. Prediction. He will aim for your back so you kinda know where he is gonna be right?
3. Know your enemy. I mained Thief and thanks to that I manage to avoid backstabs fairly well, because I know what a Thief wants to do.
4. DO NOT fear Thieves! This one is very important. If you encounter a Thief don’t just stand there and hope for things to go well, act agressively! Attack the Thief, try to hit him in stealth, if you just let him attack you when he wants, he will win.
(Obviously you are kinda limited in sPvP to attack him out of the capture point, but use this to your advantage! The smaller the territory, the less places for the Thief to be)
Do you mean the people standing around in the spawn?
Highest armor, highest hp, good passive healing, good damage, 2nd best mobility, good CC, good condition removal, really good for combos.
nothing wrong with that at all, seems balanced.
And I still manage to kill them.
I don’t see a problem with warriors honestly I mean the major differences from when they were total garbage to “OP” were Cleansing Ire, Healing Signet and the Mace Buff.
After the changes to Para Sigil I don’t think that Mace is such a problem anymore(never had a problem with it pre nerf).
Cleansing Ire is a nice and much much needed condi removal, but can be countered very easy through dodging ore blindness.
Healing Signet isn’t overpowered either, because if you don’t manage to deal 400 dmg per second to a warrior he deserves to kill you…
To be honest warriors are really bad at getting lost health back compared to other classes, therefore instead of just bursting them down, try sustained damage it can help a lot, or condition damage.
Warriors can only remove Conditions through Shouts/Shake it off/Rune of the Soldier(which weakens their offense), Mending(In this case they won’t have healing signet), Cleansing Ire(Dodging and blindness) or prevent them for 8 sec with Berserkers stance which has quite a long cd.
That sounds absolutely awesome!
They probably want to see how things play out at first.
If it really is as worse as players make it out to be, they will change it in the future, but as seen in previous patches players tend to “overreact” to changes.
Or you could lower queue gates, make it more painful on full servers to force them to transfer to less populated servers. WvW servers can;t handle the lag already as it is, 2 birds, 1 stone.
Ohh, great idea, with only one stone you could kill half the players of the most populated servers and force them to left the game because you give them two choices:
a) Withstand unbarable queues of several hours
b) Left the servers, clans and comunities that maybe they are part from more than a year, ahh, and pay money/gold to left that servers.Yes, great options, the problem could be that a lot of people would choose a new third option:
c) Left the game (or at least stop playing it).To the OP, the problem of one big faction if that a lot of people choose their server for the WvW comunnity, i’m mostly a pug, but i pug with commanders i known from months of WvW, share voice server, etc… and i like that. A gigant WvW side with thousands of people that would be very dificult to fight with the people you knwon is not very appealing to me.
I understand that completely, I’m still searching for a solution to fix this problem in my idea.
What’s to stop people stacking one faction for easy mode ROFL stomping? People will always seek the easy route.
New Maps will only be create if all factions have relatively even numbers on the already existing maps, this way even if you join the winning faction you will have very long queues and joining the loosing faction will probably give you better rewards because there you will be able to play.
I don’t mind the stat boost that much, compared to the old orb mechanic.
This way the loosing Server has atleast a chance to get the buff, because they don’t have to take down a keep.(And the winning server won’t have a whole Zerg capturing and defending these buffs)
Maybe my opinion is a little bit biased, considering that I actually liked the orbs.
They allowed for some very fun fights, aswell as giving a pretty epic goal for your server to achieve.
luckily I was on one of the servers that had a nice stable population and could stand their ground against even stronger servers.
I like the idea, but it’s a little bit brutal^^
My Idea was basically instead of Servers fighting each other, which causes the current population issues, let 3 factions, which are cross server, fight each other.
This way the whole WvW community wouldn’t split itself over 27 Servers(EU, or 24 Servers NA), but instead split itself over 3 factions(EU) and 3 Factions(NA).
To prevent insane long queues, instead of having only 3 Borderlands and 1 EB map, maps would be dynamically created to match the current amount of players.
But new maps would only be created, if all factions have relatively even numbers across all already created maps. This would prevent players from joining the winning faction, because they probably won’t be able to play, as long as the loosing faction doesn’t have relatively even numbers.
To join WvW now you would have a new Window, which shows all currently created maps, aswell as the amount of players of your faction currently playing these maps. You could join all maps as long as there aren’t the maximum amount of players on a map.
Points would still be aquired the same as before, except they are accumulated from all the maps and there wouldn’t be any rating necessary anymore.
You don’t need to join a specific WvW Server, you would simply choose a faction and then you could join WvW similar how you do it now(You will simply have more Maps to play on).
Pros:
-No population issues
-no queues or lower queue times
-Nearly no incentive to switch factions
Cons:
-factions aren’t based on laguages, this could be solved in some ways and isn’t necessarily a major problem.
-you don’t fight with people of your own Server anymore
-would take time to implement
So I would like to hear your thoughts on that system or if you like it/don’t like it and why not.

Warriors are not as great in tagging foes as other classes.
It makes a huge difference if you tag 10 out of 50 people or 30 out of 50.
Elementalists, Guardians, Thieves are far better at tagging due to their AoE.
Sigh… Arenanet really needs to implement a proper GvG and Duelling Arena to stop these kind of threads…
shouldn’t you be happy if the enemy zerg is only capping these points…?
I mean capturing these Points and keeping the control of them is very difficult and if a hole Zerg is doing that your Server can easily attack major objecitves.

I can’t say how it is on other Servers, but on my Server(Elona Reach) there are nearly only European people on our Teamspeak. And the Majority of our Players is on our Teamspeak.
I don’t think many players would use proxies simply to change their shown country…
Ok we have one or two with canada shown as their country, but they simply have a weird connection from their provider xD
The Major Weakness of International Servers in Europe is very simple. Why should the german/french/spanish players play on International Servers? thers no real reason why they should. And this player base is really big.
And there are 14! International Servers compared to 7 german Servers, 5 french, 1 spanish.
The Population is much more widespread compared to the other ones.
On my Server we simply have some really dedicated german/swiss/austrian players that play night and day^^
Knights Gear is a really strong alternative to Soldiers in WvW, because you have nice defense and compared to full Soldiers you can actually kill someone^^ I don’t recommend full Zerker for WvW but adding some zerker parts to your gear to optimize your stats is fine.
Personally I don’t like Healing Power. It’s just to much of a sacrifice of other stats to get it. To be honest If you want to be supportive Healing Power is fine, but I prefer a more offensive spec with good 1v1 capability. Knight’s with some vitality and partially Zerk Gear works fine for me.
I think the class closest to what you wish for is guardian, but even they aren’t full supporters.
It was arenanets decision to remove tanks and healers, they did that, so that every class can do nearly everything. And to be hinest I absolutely love this system! Even when you spec into support you can still defeat other classes in a 1v1 it’s just more difficult. And it makes PvE more awesome, because there isn’t just 1 Tank that gets healed and the rest just deals damage, you have to look for yourself. (Main reason why i found wow boring eventough some raids were awesome)
But like i already said if you want to support go with Guardian, they have great survivability and can apply a massive amount of boons with small healing. And especially in WvW is this simply amazing and they have some nice cc like Ring of Warding aswell.
Reminds me of the alliance battles in gw1 and they were awesome!
I really love the idea
The main Problem about Zerging isn’t that bigger Groups can defeat smaller Groups(which is pretty obvious).
The Problems are:
1. Skill Lag. A coordinated Group of 40 should be able to defeat a PUG Zerg of 60 Players, but thats not possible, because you need your skills to pull that off. With simple auto attacking the bigger force will win.
2. The Maps are too small. At the Moment it’s not very effective to make multiple small groups, because the big zerg can travel the map fast enough to wipe them both with ease, especially if they have a WP.
The basic idea behind this tactic, spamming short bow #2 in a smoke field(Black Powder Shot Pistol #5) is really easy to counter, because you can see it easily. And beating a normal group of thieves isn’t a real problem, except they all run D/P.
D/P is just insanely strong with the perma stealth that is possible with it.
Without the Perma Stealth effect of D/P the stealth tactic would be perfectly fine, because it’s not very mobile and easy to spot.
If you see a Smoke field, that gets finished by Blast Finishers, just stand inside it. They will hit you and get revealed.
Same goes for D/P Thieves if you stand in the field they can’t finish the combo with Heartseeker and if they do, they will hit you and get revealed.
The Problem with Thieves is simple you need experience with Thieves to counter them(same with Mesmers, but it’s better there), but if you have the experience they are pretty easy to defeat (maybe you won’t be able to kill him if you are slow).
The only thing about Thieves that could be considered OP is D/P because of it’s long stealth, which gives you great bonuses from SA. Like Noss already said.
The Problem at the moment is very simple, many players don’t want to use their brains to actually make a good Build and think about their playstyle. They rather call it OP and want it to be nerfed, so that they can continue to faceroll the other classes.
Another problem is, that people don’t seem to understand the idea behind class diversity…
If another class is better at something than your class, it isn’t kittening OP, your class is simply stronger in other circumstances!
For Example Thief vs Guardian:
Thief is a great roamer but doesn’t contribute much in group fights, except damage.
Guardian is a much weaker roamer but simply amazing in group fights, for example with Altruistic Healing.
That upleveled Thieves can kill lvl 80s isn’t really an argument, I was able to kill lvl 80 thieves with my lvl 40 Mesmer aswell.
I always find it funny, when I kill People in WvW that literally do nothing to kill me and just let them self get killed(it’s even worse than mob farming, they atleast do SOMETHING!) and then look into the Forums and read that Thieves are OP…
Great Job guys instead of actually contributing to good Balance you just want a noob way to kill everything.
Last Point:
I don’t understand why Thieves should be OP I can defeat them easily with my other classes, except some really good ones, because I’m not that great with my Alts, than I am with my Thief.
If you want a little bit more survivability go with Valk Armor and 0/30/30 Traits taking Shadows Rejunevation for more survival(heal in stealth) aswell as Infusion of Shadow and Cloaked in Shadow.
Infusion will give you better initiative management and Cloaked in Shadow will give you Blind, which is really usefull.
You can put the last 10 Points where you want.
I recommend to put them into acrobatics.
If you still feel, that you need more survivability get Knight’s Armor and Valk Trinkets for the same Build. You still have good Burst while maintaining decent survivability.
