I wonder why there is leveling in this game.

You need to research the game you are playing more.

There’s level and effective level. You downscale depending on the zone your in.

My personal opinion: The Exp Dungeon Grind is ridiculous.

Agree 100% with the OP. I can say all my friends also agree, as we have all stopped playing. I’ll pick the game back up in a few months and hope there is something more rewarding in PVE after 80.

Borderlands 2 on Tuesday, will keep me busy for a few weeks. Probably try it again after that…

Everyone has to come to the realization that all MMORPGs are finite. This means that at some point, you will run out of “new” stuff to do, and have to repeat stuff you have already done over and over again.

There is quite literally, no way around this. The rate of content consumption vastly exceeds the rate of content generation. You will run out of content.

So either find something in the game that you enjoy doing repeatedly…or just stop playing for now, do something else, and come back when new content is added.

Not true. If you make content challenging enough, but also fun, it can take longer to clear all the content than it does to make it.

WoW has done it many times. If you want to clear out hard modes, you need to be in a very good guild and play almost every night. There is always something to work on, and it always feels rewarding because each boss drops upgrades for the guild. WoW’s PVE endgame is vastly better than GW2’s PVE endgame. However, GW2 has done EVERYTHING else better. It sad though, because when it comes down to it PVE Endgame is the most important part in my opinion.

I don’t play WoW anymore, but I got bored of GW2 very fast after reaching 80. It took me a good 4 years to get bored of WoW’s end game. There was always something to do that felt rewarding.

Well, you will get banned for making your name “OJSimpsun”. I suggest reading the naming terms and requesting a name change before it happens.

Issues with melee and 1-hit boss mechanics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tyrindor.5049

Tyrindor.5049

I agree that 1-hit ko’s have to go, but why stick to melee? You have 2 weapon slots and weapon swap for a reason. The game isn’t designed to be played 100% melee. If you have trouble dodging certain things, swap to ranged for a while. Then again if you “go down in 1 hit every meta event or dungeon”, you should look into upgrading your armor/traits and build more defensively because then it’s not only the games fault.

Melee is harder but also more rewarding. (More damage and AoE)

“Play it the way you want to play it”

Hasn’t this been thrown around for years now, by both fans and ANET?

My prediction is coming true (DEs and fewer people)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tyrindor.5049

I hate to say it but I feel the game’s design is a bit flawed.

DEs just aren’t popping up in many zones due to lack of population, so just having fun in the dynamic world does not exist anymore. Everyone is in Orr doing events that i’ve done 100 times already and even Orr seems to be losing population. Dungeon grind is not worth the time because i’m not doing 50+ exploration runs of the same dungeon for cosmetics and no other rewards.

It only took me 130 hours (according to /age) to get 100% map. This was FAR less than expected (I was expecting 500+ hours). The problem is many zones just feel dead. There’s hardly any DEs in them. You do hearts and vistas, get your 100% map, and leave never to return. This is mainly due to population being so spread out over the world.

The best part of the content is rushed through or missed completely because it doesn’t trigger. The world is too big to have a steady population in every zone. They needed to just not have servers, and do the same thing as GW1 as they did in towns. If you want a packed zone, go to instance 1. If you don’t, go to instance 10, etc.

Here’s hoping they fix the system.

Incredibly hard, incredibly unrewarding

Tyrindor.5049

I’ve been gaming since the early 90’s, I’ve played over 20 MMOs. The dungeons in GW2 are too hard for such little reward. Everyone I know has basically stopped playing that for that very reason.

Are there any plans to revamp, or take a look at the dungeons?

I would argue some (AC, the golem-boss in SE) are too hard, but they are very rewarding.

Not rewarding in the “ZOMG, full set of epix, shinies, awesome, loregasm”-sense, but rewarding in the “kitten YEAH, we did it!”-sense. They pull that off extremely well.

You really feel that the “woah we did it!” feeling will make people play through that dungeon 50+ times for the dungeon skins?

Everyone I know has quit, or went to PVP. Majority would agree that dungeons are not fun as they stand, and are extremely unrewarding.

I was afraid of the cosmetic dungeon grind ever since they announced that’s where they were going with the end game. Many people do not like cosmetic grinds, usually only GW1 players want that. I got 50/50 and GWAMM in GW1, however I still prefer gear with stat upgrades AND good cosmetics when I complete hard dungeon.

Cosmetics by themselves are not enough to make me do a hard/fustrating dungeon 50+ times. I avoided the “elite” areas in GW1 because of this reason, as did many. It’s a pretty much universal feeling in my guild, every day less people sign on. After 100% map completion, the progression vanishes and there is no rewarding endgame.

And on the contrary, none of my many friends have quit and today they complain that I don’t do dungeons with them.

Wait until they’ve done each dungeon half a dozen times, got 0 upgrades from any of them because it’s way easy to craft max stat gear, and then still not even 10% of the way to getting a cosmetic dungeon set.

They are probably still excited because there’s many dungeons they’ve never been too. When they realize they’ve seen everything and need to grind the same dungeon 50+ times just for a better looking armor set, I bet that changes.

I Wish Vistas Were Not Needed for Zone Completion

I don’t mind most vistas, but when vista and jumping puzzle is one and the same (ie. you get a puzzle achievement from doing the vista as well) it goes bit too far. For example the wall scaling in Diessa Plateau.

That’s the other one I was talking about.

There are only 2 of them that are that hard required for 100%, the rest are far easier. However, the other one is much harder.

The actual jumping puzzles (non-vista) are so much harder than vistas. Some of them take 2-3 hours, but they are 100% optional.

I’ve done 100% map completion and there is really only 2 HARD vistas required. I don’t remember where they are, but you get achievements when you get them. They take a good 10-15 minutes IF you know what your doing and don’t miss jumps. I believe you did one of them already.

The majority take less than 30 seconds to complete, with a couple taking 2 minutes or so to figure out.

I think they are fine where they are, the actual hard puzzles are not required.

Tyrindor.5049

People aren’t rushing, you’re going at a snails pace.

I explored Orr (apparently that’s rushing). The maps got no more hearts so you do them rather fast (except for the parts you run circles around bugged skillpoints :P). While I was exploring Orr I joined in on DEs whenever I came along one (doing DEs = rushing, I should just ignore them and stand on a cliff for 2 hours or something). While exploring Orr I was farming all the mithril/elder wood I could find (this gives exp, so it has to be rushing).

Now at 77 I got a bit bored of the DEs and had the first map complete (bugged skillpoint aside) and was halfway through the second map. I went to LA and turned my mithril ore into ingots (crafting = exp = rushing) and I got enough exp for MORE than 3 levels just from that. Now I could turn all those ingots into jewelry which would give me another 2 levels, then I could turn the logs into planks (since my second profession is Artificer) for again 3 levels and turn the planks into weapons for more experience. Sorry, but exp rates in GW2 are simply insane, it has nothing to do with rushing.

If you want to get one profession to 400 to craft 80 gear and farm most of the materials yourself that already gets you to 80. In other words to not turn 80 you have to AVOID a major bit of content in GW2. Irony isn’t it? People claiming you should not rush and enjoy the content by IGNORING the content.

I do agree with most of this, but crafting is % based like all other XP in the game. 1-400 is exactly 10 levels no matter what level you are. So 2 professions could take you from 1-20, or 61-80 depending on when you craft. To get to 80 just from crafting, you need to max all crafting professions on a single character (this is by design).

I went from 60-80 in a mere hour by using the materials I farmed while getting to 60. It does seem like a bit much if you ask me, but this is how they purposely designed it.

I wasn’t too worried about hitting 80 because I still had 50% of the map to explore, but that also went much faster than expected. Too many level 40-60 zones with very small amounts of dynamic events.

I’m fairly certain it’s lag, not fps as it shows a constant 50 for me. It goes in spurts of 1-3 second delays where my character will show he’s charging his attack and a few seconds later all of the attacks land at once. I’ll go ahead and report it never the less.

Probably just a server issue. Do another zone and come back to it, there’s probably plenty of other zones you can do.

It’s not a game for hardcore players. I got 80 in 4 days and 100% map completion 3 days later, and all level 80 exotic gear (from crafting) a day later. Game is great fun but it won’t last for people who like to play their games 12-15 hours/day.

I’ll be coming back for content patches and expansions, but it’s become brutally obvious this won’t be “the one game” I play like I wanted it to be.

Dungeon Running - Explore Tokens

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tyrindor.5049

Tyrindor.5049

I stopped playing because of the token system to be honest. I’m not done playing all together, but I don’t see myself playing for awhile (probably pick it back up after I get bored of borderlands 2).

I’m already stat capped, and the cosmetic grind is pretty crazy at the moment. I want to feel like i’m progressing, and cosmetic gear doesn’t give me that feeling. I wouldn’t be afraid to start grinding cosmetic gear, if it didn’t take 50+ runs for 1 set.

The system will make people quit, when it intends to keep people playing for longer. My 2 RL friends also immediately stopped playing at 80 when they realized the grind required for cosmetics.

Please change it ANET, this system will turn PVE players away quickly… If i’m going to do a 50+ dungeon grind, I want to at least feel like i’m getting more powerful. Leave cosmetics to sPVP and give WvW a “max stat” cap if needed.

I’m very surprised to hear people say this and is one of those things that you should have known when picking up this game. It’s one of the most important philosophies of Anet that you shouldn’t have to go on an endless gear treadmill to enjoy the game. You shouldn’t NEED ever increasing numbers to enjoy the game. Then game needs to be FUN. Stat increases are just a mere illusion of fun and is often related to subscription based MMO’s. Why do you think that GW1 has a stat cap that could be reached after a few hours? This isn’t WoW, or Diablo 3. This is GW2 and yes I WILL stop playing if they ever chose to implement the systems you are suggesting.

You don’t NEED to farm these token. If you enjoy the game you will get these items over time. You can stop whenever you want. You are not paying a sub. And that is what I’m planning to do.

And you wouldn’t NEED to farm gear that has 5% better stats than your current gear. Nothing in the game requires good gear. Just saying, there’s 2 sides to this story.

I fail to see how someone wouldn’t want to grind for cosmetics AND stats at the same time instead of just cosmetics anyway. It’s a win/win and I never got the whole argument that grinding for cosmetics is somehow magically better than grinding for stats and cosmetics at the same time. They don’t need to make the content so hard that it requires the last tier of gear, even with dungeon gear having better stats, it wouldn’t make it impossible for brand new 80s to do them.

I knew this is how the game was going to be when I bought it, I don’t regret my purchase. I do feel that 50+ runs for a single cosmetic set is a bit steep though. If it was more like 10 runs I would be willing to do it.

What do you do since you turned 80?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

my friend plays everyday after work for about 5 hours and is level 35. He quests and constantly roaming around for points getting xp. If you are playing a game for more than 12 hours a day it can basically be considered rushing, more like having way too much time on your hands, but yep and I don’t mind if people rush or have too much time on their hands, it just annoys me when they complain about having nothing to do lol

So your friend has played roughly 90 hours and is level 35? That’s impossible, i’m sorry but I don’t know what you guys are doing in the game. You’d get more XP than that just by PVPing or sitting in a 1-15 zone doing events, much much more. You would get higher than level 35 just by gathering materials for 90 hours and ignoring everything else. By 90 hours, he should be pushing 60-70 even if he is casually playing the game and not focusing on leveling. ANET said they expect every level after 30 to take about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours.

I’m going to assume he has a bunch of alts or something.

I used play the game about 10hrs a day. But now that I’m 80, I just play the game for like an hour and just stop. I tried to get those exotic dungeon gear but I just don’t see the point anymore since you can’t even examine people’s gear. I mean how do you show off that you have this full exotic gear? Another thing is, I think every mmo should have a thing called “end game content”. I understand that they made everything accessible for everyone, and people are saying that all of it are end game contents but man, I did WvW to get to 80, I explored maps and do dungeons, I did sPvP. Is that it for this game? They should have at least made something that can only access in lvl cap. I mean it’s been about 2 weeks and I feel like I want an expansion already. I really love this game though, I had a lot of fun leveling but it’s just that I need more contents to satisfy my needs of gaming. I want some GvGs, Duels, Raids, open PvPs, and more dragons! Anyways, this game has potential, I’m not saying I’m quiting, but I’m waiting

You sound like our entire guild on mumble. You are not alone here…

Everyone wants the game to do great, but right now it’s looking like many people will stop playing and come back after more end game content exists.

Any game could have end game content and people would reach it super fast and still say there is no end game content. There is really no such thing as end game content because people will keep reaching anything new a game adds, and of they don’t, they say the end game is too long and boring and quit anyways. -.-

This is why end game content needs to require guilds, and coordination. They want the game to be accessible, which means easy in my eyes. So people will fly through the content and get bored.

In “that other MMO”, a new dungeon comes out and it takes a couple months for a good guild to clear it. Then another dungeon is released. This keeps people playing for years. People focus so much time because it drops gear that makes their characters stronger. I don’t see people doing this for cosmetics.

I don’t want GW2 to turn into a dungeon raiding game, but anything is better than the current endgame.

Then people need to do more with their time because I’m barely level 21 and I’ve had it since the pre release lol I play everyday too xD
On the side note, about people quitting because there is no end game, I really think that is so dumb, everyone expects these mmos coming out to be perfect on the first release, that would be so boring though IMO, because there is no anticipation for anything new, ever. People should take their time leveling and enjoying the game rather than already thinking about quitting less than a month after its release. ~_~

Sorry I don’t see how that is possible if you’ve played every day since prelaunch and still are only level 21, you’d have to afk/stand around for hours a day or are only playing for like 30 minutes a day. You can get to level ~15 just by exploring the main towns (if XP rated didn’t change from beta).

Level 21 takes about 10-15 hours, and i’m being generous. It’s been 18 days since prelaunch, so that means you’d have to play roughly 30-45 minutes a day, which is far less than most people are going to play a new MMO. I think I got level 26 the night of the prelaunch (and I wasn’t rushing.. I just played for ~12 hours straight because it was fun). Virtually everything you do gives you tons of XP, I wasn’t even trying to level (ignored my level completely) and I hit 80 in 4 days after launch just by doing random stuff in the game while having fun.

1) Events should show up zone wide. Dynamic event hunting when you’ve done 100% map is boring. It’s too hard to find dynamic events at times, I want to see what’s going on in the zone at a glance.

2) Dungeon Tokens either need to be reduced, or rewarded in bigger numbers, or be universal so we can run any dungeon and then choose what armor to buy. Requiring 50+ exploration dungeon runs of the SAME dungeon is not going to keep people playing for longer, it’s going to make people quit sooner. I have no will to do 50+ runs of the same dungeon just for cosmetics.

3) There should of been more dedicated 80 zones, with giant epic events that you don’t see in lower level zones. I mean MASSIVE events, with epic boss fights at the end of them. Entire zone changing events. We could call them “RAID” zones, but they don’t require you to form a group, you just go there and all the events are massive, harder, take more time, and give better rewards. Dynamic event end game.

4) Allow us to change the loot key to something other than “interact”. Looting is annoying because you constantly talk to NPCs while looting.

People always rush games to level cap then complain how boring it is -.- lol

People who aren’t 80, think everyone who is 80 rushed the game. -.- lol

Being level 80 this point in the game is not rushing. You must work like 12 hours a day or something. It takes almost no time to get 80, even if you play 2-3 hours a day, which I would consider very little for an MMO player.

I mean seriously… You can get level to 60 while gathering mats along the way, and then use those mats to go from 60-80 with about an hours worth of crafting. Leveling is easy. There were level 80s 2 days after launch, that is rushing. I expect a large portion of the players are 80 by now, the problem is most of them stopped playing or made alts because the dungeon grind for cosmetics is not very fun.

Orr seems to be losing population, not gaining. Something needs to be done about the end game, luckily the game doesn’t have a subscription so people will always come back when new content releases.

I was playing max everything right up until the second the servers went down. 60FPS steady on my GTX 680 (This is with ultra/supersampling enabled too!). Then I patched, and got back on.. I barely manage 20-40FPS in the same area. So I just stopped playing thinking an issue this big will be resolved fast.

I was hoping the Sept 9th patch would resolve this but it didn’t. I saw some other complaints on other forums stating they experienced the same.

Has there been any official word on this? Some people are affected, while others are not.

There are 3 identical WvW zones and you must do all 3. There there is eternal battlegrounds too.

Alright, I logged in, and that is funny:
I got 2x Gift of Exploration for completing 100% world.
But – my achievement says I have 98% so I have no title.
When I click “M” – it says I have 100%.
In character select menu, next to mine name, it’s written I have 98%.
When I mouseover the world map icon in top-right corner, it says I have 97%.

This is normal. It’s currently bugged. You get a star next to your name that everyone can see, and your 2 gifts. You will have to wait for the title/achievement.

Both my friend and I almost stopped playing after we hit 80 and this is the main reason. We went from playing as much as we could, to barely getting on.

It is not fun to travel around trying to find groups for dungeons. Waypoint cost is high and it makes it further fustrating. People don’t look for groups in towns much, so you have to go from zone to zone hoping to find a group.

It is crazy that there is not a better LFG tool. Especially in a game that was suppose to be very accessible.

You need to go to chamber of secrets in Bloodtide Coast. Google it if you don’t know where the cave is.

After you zone in, you’ll get your rewards and you will also get a cool star next to your name that everyone can see. Be prepared to answer “How did you get that star?” questions about 50 times an hour. I am the only person i’ve seen with it…

However, the achievement (and title) is currently bugged. 100% completion only shows 97% in your character creation and on the achievement. FIX THIS ANET! It’s a slap in the face to put in all this work and not get all the rewards.
