I am fully aware of the shortcomings. However those are manageable, to an extent.
The main grief people seem to have with rangers, aside from warrior being oh so sexy, is that “the pet dies” all the time. “Spirits dies instantly”.
Well, sure they do, and if you bring a zerker warrior into the brunt force of the well’s and marks spam, your warrior dies too. Anyone dies if you let them linger around in AOE.

See here is the problem you seem to not able to face….Ranger’s mechanic IS tied to pets. Once the pet is dead the Ranger loses its mechanic/dps/boons/cleansing, etc. Soooo….the fact that the pet dies rather quickly in any large fight just reinforces that fact.

You can try as hard as possible to avoid AoE’s but you WILL get hit by them, and your pet WILL die to them and spirits will die faster to them. Hell even just the cleaves take out spirits fast.

So why would someone want a class missing skills because if stupid AI over another in large scale WvW? They wouldn’t.

AOE immob with 0.5s activation (pretty much instant). Good luck evading it if the ranger is actually going for you. Same goes for warrior immobs too. Good luck evading instant cast attacks when you got 60-70 other people, skill lag, ping lag and whatnot going on at once.
1v1 w/commander tag, sure, no prob.

Entangling Roots is a joke. Mobile Strikes, Stealth, or good ol AoE takes care of those rather easily, then you have a Ranger with a long elite cooldown, and one without Stability (Rampage As One) slotted.

You sure act like you know the class, but the more you post, the more I think you don’t. I assume you don’t play any other classes as well, right? If you did you would have already known some of the things you post are just not true.

Some key factors here

1. With all this super condi dmg, can you provide group stability, group cleansing, group DPS buffs, group defensive buffs all on almost spammable low CDs ?

2. What are your other stats in this build ? Are you as survivable as a guard/war/bunker necro/ bunker ele ? How many stun breakers do you have ? How many stabilities do you have, note thats stunbreakers and stabilities, not stunbreaker or stability, big difference there.

3. The pet …… lawl Anything ivolving pet, be it a skill, trait, utility is a complete and utter waste in group on group situation.

With Trapper – no, that is a egocentrical build.

With BM Shout spirit bunker, yes. You can provide group cleansing, group DPS, Group defensive buffs. Easily. You cannot apply group stability because ranger has none, its a shame, but thats how it is.

With the Shout-Spirit bunker you can grant burning on attack, protection on attack, healing on attack or a big fat waterfield with condi cleanses every 2 seconds, 50% fury uptime, permanent regeneration, permanent swiftness, 3 sources of AOE group condition clears, the lowest CD being 1 pr 12sec. Second lowest CD is 2 every 20sec.
I could drop one spirit, either protection or burning in favor of Signet of Renewal, which strips ALL conditions from 4 allies + myself instantly….
My build is a mix of dire and clerics. So you get medium direct damage and medium condition damage. It is purely meant for group support, and works by never letting an enemy get the better of you, meaning if the enemy has a lot of cleanses you still do damage, if the enemy is tanky with fewer cleanses, you still do damage. For roaming you either have to go full condition or full power. In most cases you only need to change 4 armor/4trinket pieces in the gear for it to change from group to roaming.
Weapons are Sword + Dagger and Shortbow for bleed stacking and direct DPS.
Pets is Brown Bear for AOE condition cleanse (it has instant cast, so even in heavy skill lag, it performs its F2 about 75% of the time. which to me is acceptable) and to soak up the damage from all conditions myself and allies got. Bringing a bear also has the side effect that people think you run Bearbow and target you first. A grave mistake as my build is very evasion heavy. The condition part relies on poison and burning, with bleed stacks being secondary. Thanks to this, cleansing ire and dogged march is less effective. And healing signet takes a big hit. Oh and yes, i designed this build to counter the hammer meta when running a 15v15 group. It works, even in 80 man blobs. You won’t tag much with the SB, so it is advised to carry a GS for zerging instead of SB.

As for stunbreakers, you got 2. The bear pet and signet. 1 if taking two spirits. Mind you, the only thing that can down my ranger build fast enough is 2 zerker thieves and 1 necro working together. No other combination has been able to down it before i can start up the healing chain or cleanse my conditions again.
Hammerstuns are easier to avoid now, and thus i rely more on the evade skills. of which i got 3 on sword+dagger, 1 on SB and 2x dodges. all on low CD’s (longest CD is 15seconds)

Again, you are counting on Spirits and Pets for abilities in large scale WvW…lawl. You might have some valid arguments if Spirits and Pets didn’t insta die in larger fights, but again you are more theory and a lot less reality.

The GvG scene in general is saturated with elitism and profession “racism”. This is why Engineers and Rangers are almost barred. Not because they are not useful, but because it is easier to do whatever they do, on other professions, even if the Ranger or Engineer does it better.

However, unlike true athletes, be it RL or E-sports, you cannot expect players who play a game, primarily for fun, to choose “Hard Mode” when everything else is designed to be played in “Easy Mode”.

No, Rangers are not sought in GvG because….as stated and proved many, many, many, times, they are NOT as useful as other classes. Sorry, your posts show you are denial and you will argue with facts. Good for you….keep up the good fight. But at least know you are only fooling or convincing yourself. Not many others buy into the utter BS you are spewing.

And did you seriously call people that participate in E-sports true athletes? Really?

2 – No the warrior won’t bring more CC then me, because my build(s) allows me to bring more then the warrior, without speccing specifically for CC at all. it is simply part of the package. Also, in zerg v zerg, long duration chill/cripple is almost as effective as immobilize due to the amount of cleansing around. Either way, you are slowed down by a split second or two.

Warrior has an AoE knockback, AoE cripple, knockdown, and AoE stun, on one weapon. Throw on s/s and you have immob, and another stun , or s/m and add immob, another AoE knockdown. All while using active condi clears on much, much lower cooldowns, and more stability (again on a shorter cooldown) than the Rangers, and NOT having to have a live pet close by to clear those condi’s.

Again, Warrior > Ranger in group fights at CC.

And again, no Rangers cannot do as much condi pressure as a Necro or Engi…..let alone survive better against another condi build, if both are of equal skill.

I find it funny how you cannot see this. Rose colored glasses maybe?

actually, i looked over the traits i got at my disposal. In both my comparison, i specced both professions with 30 into whatever line that gave them condition duration. To show how the maximum output would be. However, this gives the ranger an advantage, as all my immobilize is tied to utilities/pet. Which allows me to freely use the strongest armor and weapon combination i want to, while the warrior, while it being a potent mix, are forced to use two specific weapons (Sword mainhand + Bow).

With the traits the way they are, the ranger can run full Valkyrie and trait for Remorseless. Allowing it to bind the enemy, and deliver a massive critical strike. The remorseless build is tried and tested. It works, even better so, it works really well in zergs as it gives you high damage and good tanking.

And there is your problem. Anything tied to pet makes it unreliable and a flat out disadvantage. Between pet being dead, not in range, F2 dely, cc’d, or just recently swapped to making the F2 not fire but still go on cooldown, does not help your case. Crappy AI is crappy AI, and the Ranger class is built on it.

And you really think Remorseless is good? Really? You give up Beastmasters might for it. If you go 30 into that tree (and don’t take BM might) you are already going power build, and no amount of armor/trinkets are going to give you build diversity.

You are trying to justify a build that is still subpar, on a class that is subpar. You really think that much immob makes this class good? Beyond the fact that the circumstances to apply that much immob is rare in a real fight, it still does not do jack in the main scheme of things.

Ranger fear. Again uses a near useless porcine pet to do. So you have to swap to the porcine pet….use its F2 skills (forage)….wait for it to sniff the ground….move your character to where the pet used the skill….pick up the item……now you can use the fear. Of course your skills are blocked now because you have a skull in your hand. So you have to use it before you can do ANYTHING else. Brilliant. ….

As much as I like the Ranger, and would love to see it excel beyond SPvP and roaming, I can at least accept the fact in larger WvW battles its at the bottom. At least I don’t try to make up ridiculous situations and silly builds to try and justify its place. The class needs a revamp. A tweak here and there wont do it.

8 second fire field, 10 second water field both on reasonable cd’s. 2 second immobilize per 16 seconds(if specced for it) easy swap to fear group buffs etc. AoE vigor, good source of regen. Honestly I don’t think a lot of the “rangers” know what rangers can do. I was talking to another player the other day, an experienced WvWer that had no idea rangers had as much access as they do to these things.

Problem generally stems from PvE players trying to cross their PvE style/build into WvW.

8 second fire field. – And? Ele and engineer both do fire fields better, just for the fact they do more AoE damage, and can escape better.

10 second water field. – Point blank water field you mean. So you want the Ranger to roll with the heavy melee train, right? Sure build them tanky and watch them hit like a wet noodle, or build them dps style and watch them melt with weak coni clear, looong cooldown stability, and med armor. Again Ele can do it better at range, and more than one, and provide damage that trumps Rangers.

Regen. - Engi does regen better for a group, so does Guard, and is much better all around for a group.

AoE Vigor – Warrior warhorn 5 skill says hello.

Nothing you point out makes the Ranger class better, sorry. You can be in denial and try hard to come up with “reasons” for a Ranger to be picked over another class, aside from single roaming, and you will always come up short. Where are the good WvW guilds that have this class in their setups? Show me please.

Face it, Anet dropped the ball with the class, and seems to not have a clue how to get it on track.

There are to many kitten in this game. They cant beat u 1 on 1 what they do send 2 more, and get wiped. So what they do send 6 more kitten.

Going to summarize every one of these threads in the past year and half:

Everyone: Rangers aren’t as good as other classes in wvw. Pets are useless, rangers don’t do enough damage or provide enough group utility. What utility they do provide is easily given by other classes.

Rangers: Nuh-uh! Rangers are awesome!

Actually, that is wrong. No profession comes close to as much Immobilize as rangers, even if the other profession specs for it. And only thief can apply as much poison, as often, as easily. Only the Warrior can match the passive regeneration. Only a guardian can actually bunker as well as a ranger.

Rangers can apply 250% more fear then necromancers are able to.

Yes and all those reasons (even though they are incorrect, and some exaggerated) are why Rangers are so wanted/needed in WvW focused guild/groups…..

Unless you’ve played ranger you can’t say these are exagerated. Immob, we have muddy terrian,entangle and pets. We can get perma poison with two weapon skills, can get perma regen from shouts and passive regen from signets, that yes only a warrior can beat. And I don’t you’ve ever fought a bunker ranger before.

Big zergs ranger’s don’t shine as well, but small scall roaming, dueling,spvp you don’t laugh at a ranger. I do recall ranger’s running the show in spvp for atleast 3 months with spirits, and we’re still good small scale.

Good thing I play a Ranger then….so I can safely and knowledgeable say that the info posted is wrong and exaggerated.

SPvP and duals, sure ok, Ranger is not bad, but the person I quoted said Ranger do things better than other classes, which is garbage.

Want to prove me wrong? Show me one single (good) WvW guild trying to recruit a Ranger for guild groups. That is enough evidence to prove that other classes do the job better.

You said pets work are pretty much viable anywhere. I pointed at the areas they utter poopoo. PvE bores me to tears so I couldn’t care less what a pet does. You have to be braindead to fail in a dungeon anyway.

No pets don’t work fine anywhere. WvW is a perfect example. Outside of solo roaming, pets are pretty much useless. Even in a 1v1 fight using a melee pet against someone who has A,S,D,W keys makes them very underwhelming.

Stealth isn’t broken, the problem with Thief is the insane damage, THAT should be addressed and leave stealth as is.
Problem is, as always, the only thing people see infornt of their eyes is DPS numbers, they’re only happy when they see 5 digits on a training dummy anything else is widely discarded as useless, so if Anet was to fix it the outcry would see no end.

What Rangers could use is faster pets and/or longer attack range in them, if the target takes just one side step it takes them ages to catch up, in a class that was design to have the pet dealing a % of damage their workings are fundamentally flawed BUT they can easily be fixed.

Faster pets? That wont help. The animation to attack is the problem. You can have a wolf pet stick to a person, but as soon as it goes to “hit”, it has to do an animation, which “roots” it before it actually hits. This causes pets to miss due to the target moving. Its a flawed system and that system is the Rangers biggest mechanic. Sad really.

And while I am not one for calling nurf on any class, there is one thief build that is totally ridiculous right now that is a perma stealth. Not huge damage (but enough) and no real threat of the thief dying if the fight does not go their way.

The living story new content in no way whatsoever qualifies as an expansion or does it even mimic an expansion. It’s just additional repetitve content in a different package.
An expansion would bring a new world/maps with new content,pve,quests etc. Going around old maps getting old socks and hats, or dragon scales or whatever is not.

Not to rain on your parade, but soon you realize pets are just disposable and not worth naming anyway. They don’t grow in size with levels, they don’t learn any new skills, they are very bland and generic.

One way to save a name is to have the same pet for land and water. I.E. a river drake as a water pet, with custom name, and one used as a land pet will keep their name. As long as you don’t change out the water pet drake, you can switch the land out and it will remain with the custom name.

Seriously though saying Ranger is good in organized WvW groups is a laugh. Sure they are ok in roaming, and small groups, but do not add anything another class cannot do better.

Tell me what top tier WvW guild runs Ranger as a necessary part of their team. Tell me what guild looks at their composition and says “Dang, we need more Rangers!”.

Point being, you are delusional if you think Rangers are in a good place in WvW. They are not. Are they playable? Sure. Then again so is player with any class that is using 0 trait skills, or a player running around naked.

Other classes don’t need a nurf (i.e. thief), and Ranger does not need a buff. This class needs an overhaul, a direction, and a total revamp of the pet mechanic.

Unfortunately, none.

Pet auto attacks aren’t really bad, the problem is how the F2 skill works, I mean in how it communicate with server, and also about pet survivability in AoE heavy places, both problems are very hard to solve, issues which involve hardware and also chance of unbalance in game.

Yes pet auto attack IS bad. Very bad.

I was playing my Necro the other day and had a ranger cat pet on me for about 2 minutes strait. You know how many times it hit me? 2. Yes two times. You know how to negate melee pet damage? Move. Keep strafing and 90% of the time the pet will miss. Just like running through a pack of wolves in PvE. Why? Because they share the same attack animation that makes it impossible for a pet to reliably land a hit while moving.

That is bad.

Not much health, not much armor. I am not sure how you are able to survive much in melee range after evades are on CD.

If you have not tried this build, you probably don’t understand how hyper-aggressive the playstyle is. Both shortbow and dagger evades are on a low cooldown and I have multiple cripples, as well as protection as soon as I get hit for more than 2k damage.

I play a similar build. But I also have it at 19k+ health, 2900+ armor, and 2900+ attack, and 75 crit damage. Of course I also only have 47% crit chance, and only 850ish condition damage without food or boons.

Fighting Warriors and Guards I found cripples and condi’s roll off their backs too easily to have low armor/health, and not enough power to compensate for having my bleeds cleansed.

OMG TC, ^^ you allways been like that never will accept that FA beat you ^^, allways will be excuses like we are in school, we are in vacation, our commanders was not online ? .

Dont you think the same thing happen on FA ? its TC the only NA server ?? dont make me laugh.

The big difference in those 2 weeks was, last week [BOMB] dont rally at Sunda/Monday when TC made their big big push, so basicly no1 stop them, but this week [BOMB] rally Sunday/Monday and TC cannot do anything, and dont say you dont send you entire forces because i have videos and dont meke me put some over here.

If you say at some moment of the days TC only have 2 commnaders, well FA at some points only has me commanding the 4 maps.

Please TC stop that crappy idea of " TC let FA wins " because that not true, FA win this week because " WE CAN " .

Those TC excuses make me remind SBI excuses when they lose the second place in Silver.

BTW, the entire FA will take good break next week so you are free to go rise your PPT ^^

Thank god bomb is there or FA would be nothing. Since your one guild (that is never a stones throw away from the zerg) has mastered WvW, and “Commanding all 4 maps” like a boss, its time to work on grammar.

Sorry to say, but never seen bomb have much impact on anything. Let alone be the sole reason FA had a strong presence in WvW.

Right. So my point is, why do people keep bringing up l2p and micro manage, when there is not much to micro manage?

If pets took less AoE damage, could actually hit a moving target, and we had control over the skills, then yes, I could see it as a l2p issue. But its not.

We know the pets aren’t perfect (or the tools we’re given), but if you’re not willing to learn how to micro-manage your pet to keep them alive, attacking, and their skills accessible, you might wanna roll a different class. Not that it’s easy, and it can be incredibly frustrating at times, but it’s absolutely necessary to get the most from the class.

This is the tired and old “l2p” excuse, trying to cover up failed pet mechanics. You don’t have much “micro-manage” abilities when our control over the pet is minimal.

It has nothing to do learning how to mico-manage a pet. In PvE, sure it aint hard. In WvW it is a mess.

1. We control one pet ability that has a delay. That is 1/2 kitten d. Do we REALLY need one button for attack and another for retreat? No. One button for attack/retreat, another for “tail swipe/leap/posion/ etc”, and one for swap. Being able to control what your pet does a little more makes more sense.

2. We have melee pets that cant hit a moving target due to world-wide pet AI. Ever run though a pack of wolves without getting hit? Yup, so do enemy players. Anet cant fix this because it would effect every wolf, drake, etc. Again, 1/2 kitten d.

The failings of the pet (and lack of control) is only one reason why this class is sub par.

You linked a Conidtion Warrior build. Pretty cookie cutter, and great for duels and very small WvW.

Conditions, power, tank, even pet centric builds, all other classes do it better. There is no area that the Ranger class excels at.

This is from a completely WvW view.

Warrior is OP. I have one, its OP-tastic. Denying this is a sure sign of someone who hasn’t played other classes much.

Wow….guess what….I have one of each too! I only play Ranger and Warrior 95% of my time.

No, we don’t need it and it would make it very clunky in terms of being able to command the pet.

And we are not handicapped, the pet AI is really smart on when to use their skills, if you stop for a moment and learn when the pets use their skills and fight around that, as well as watching your pet to see what they’re doing, you’ll be a lot better off and realize that it’s in no way, shape or form “random”.

And i don’t know why you’re dragging Engineer and elementalist in here, they have very simple prof mechanics,the engineers profession mechanic is about as simple as it gets, all it is is 4 extra utility skills. Elementalist just gives them 2 additional weapon swaps, not very complex.

The reason that elementalists sit in one attunement in PvE is because many people play elmenetalist so they can be “The mage” and they want to be an <insert element here> mage and as such they think that they can play effectively by not using any other attunement.

It’d be like if you rolled ranger and think “I don’t wanna use a pet!” so you keep it on passive the whole time and never actually do anything involving the pet and never send it in, you’re gimping yourself because you’re not playing the prof because you have some stupid notion in your head that the square peg will fit through the circle hole.

So much wrong with this, I would not know where to start. Its hard to think this is a real post and not a troll.

Conditions, power, tank, even pet centric builds, all other classes do it better. There is no area that the Ranger class excels at.

Wasn’t there a thread a while back that showed a pet under the effect of Moa Morph was actually able to reliably hit moving enemies? It was because the basic attack was actually a 130 range lunge. Why the hell do they not just do that for pet attacks? If we are going to be forced to use our pet always, and our pet always being up is factored into our overall dps, then the pet needs to be able to reliably hit targets.

My guess, it would fly counter to the designers intentions on having a game that is twitch based. It would be hard to have a twitch based game with guaranteed hits. Don’t get me wrong, I think pet hits on moving targets should have a much higher success rate than the current mechanic.

Guaranteed hits? Sure if the person under attack by a pet didn’t dodge/block/mistform/stealth etc. etc. just like they do with a human player.

That excuse is tired and old, and the design is just bad.

They said if they changed the Ranger pet, it would change all the AI in game (like every wolf). So what? What is the problem with that? So people could actually get HIT running through a group of 4 legged animals that SHOULD be faster than them anyway. And Ranger pets (sans ranged ones) would not be rendered almost useless by another player “moving”.

Holy kitten I make one post about TC not having any good GUILD GROUPS UNDER 10 (all caps so your not distracted by other key words like zerg etc.) and 3 pages later TC is still defending their honor. Jeez you guys it’s like you’ve never been called out for all being in one zerg on a map before. It’s classic TC and anyone that’s fought TC knows it’s true. All I was trying to do is get some guild somewhere to give me a “fight me bro” so i could get my first even fight of the match up with my guildies. Let me be clear TC doesn’t ALWAYS zerg just most of the time, TC isn’t all miltia baddies just most of them, TC doesn’t always have more numbers just most the time(FA is stronger in OCX, possibly NA), FA has zerg guilds, FA will blob with multiple guild groups. All myself the furious one are trying to say is where all da TC roamers and small guilds at? and if they do in fact exist (I’m skeptical) who are they and how can we find them? If not why not break off say 5-10 from your zerg to havoc on map so they can get better instead of being #1 pushers all the time? or hey if you got 15 on wall and 5 of us outside why not jump down get out of cannon range and fight us instead of turtlling up all the time? Go get you some fights we’re waiting outside of your T3 keeps.

Why not kill the bigger groups then? If TC does nothing but zerg it up, you should have not a hard time taking them out with smaller numbers.

My guild has not had more than 17 online in the past week, and still fight blobs of SoS and FA 2x – 4x our numbers. We do this every night. I would like to say we win them all, but that does not always happen. The nice thing is, nobody in our TS cries about it, much less makes multiple forum post about it.

Instead of trying to “set something up” why not take your own advice and go “get some fights” bigger or smaller. Or….you can sit there and cry about how unfair this or that is….your choice.

It’s not that there are too many. It’s that you’re all in one place at a time on any given map. There’s very little small to mid size fights (5-15) to be had. Making it a really boring matchup unless you like trebbing, blobbing around with 30 of your server friends, or clubbing poor zerglings trying to get back to their group. I’m sure all the FA zerg guilds are having a good ole’ time cutting down all your baddies, but for the roamers and small guilds it’s pretty lame. Can’t you just break off like 10 from your blob and send them my way instead of sending the whole server for a 5 man gank team… please I have cookies i’m willing to share.

Here is a hint for PvF -

Replace ANY server name, and ANY guild name in ANY post and it still works. Here is one to get you started:


(server) sir in their tower with the 50 people using AC’s ,while ______ (guild from other server) only had 10 people outside wanting a fight. _______ (server) is always outnumbered. Oh, and lol to _______ (guild) running from my 10 man group while they has double (or triple can be used here) numbers. Oh, and thanks to ______ (guild OR server) for being loot bag dispensers! I got like 150 (can also use 250,350, or just thousands) bags from your failed push at SMC.

Fill in the blanks and have fun.

I think that would make for some interesting and fun gameplay as well, like back in Shadowbane where AoE’s where used with caution.

Stick to playing on a low tier server against bads and build up this sort of view.

Killed plenty of “I AM THE PWN” warriors and guardians on my ranger in wvw, on a tier 1 server. I would tell you to “Bring it” but this game has lost my interest across all modes. I return to the forums for the LOLs like your post brings me.

Though I don’t agree with Jamoke, are you implying that all rangers from a low server are bad?

Good players are good regardless of what tier they play on.

The arrow carts you saw where from another group. I know we killed some guys on AC’s with AON guild in open field. They would wait for a fight then jump on the AC’s. I think it was the same group running killshot warriors(s), trying to vulture if I am not mistaken.

I ran into this guy at about 8pm CST as well. At first I thought it was lag because SoS and Mag were massed on our Garrison and there was bad skill lag right when I arrived.

Later on he was doing it again when there was nobody else around. Basically the same thing in that video. Stay far away, run in and try to pick someone off, as soon as he was hit….bam….outrun everyone. I recognize the guild tag, gloves, shoulders, and color.

I had a thought or two (yeah, it happens) during the motorbike commute in this morning. Condensed it boils down to:
What if the pet was made immune, or 95% resistant, to all forms of damage? OP, right? What if at the same time the pet’s direct damage output was halved, or reduced even further? Nerf! Okay, what if that was compensated for by adding to the ranger’s damage? No need to massively overhaul anything, just tweak the numbers.

Anyway, probably a stupid idea…

It has been suggested many, many times, in some form or another. Go read some suggestions going back months and you will find many folks with ideally simple changes that would help this class like those you suggested.

No response from devs. Swept under the rug.

Most dev response time and tweaks being made are under the SPvP part of the game. PvE and WvW are pretty much non-significant when it comes to getting Anets attention.

Better -

Warhammer (Squig Herders). Could use a pet for dps and utility, or not use one and get a boost to dps. Also, bows actually did good damage.

DAOC (Hunters). Again pets were an option to charm, yet the class did good dps with or w/o.

WoW. Pretty obvious. Pets were useful, as well as grew larger with levels, has some great skills, could hit moving targets, and were not a liability.

Sadly, I could go on just in the MMO genre, but Ill leave it at that. Sad fact is just about every single game out there have done “Rangers” much better. When a Warrior can hit harder with a range weapon than a “Ranger” you know something is wrong.

Worse -

EQ1 orginal, no expansion. Rangers were kitten to hell. Bows did horrible damage, their heals were pitiful, there dps was subpar, they fit nowhere in the group. From what I heard this changed after some time, but it reminds of the Rangers in GW2.

Roll a Warrior. Its pretty much what people that like the “Ranger” class are looking for.

Want to hit something with 14k+ damage with a ranged weapon from 1500? That’s a Warrior.

Want something that’s slippery to catch? That’s a Warrior.

Want signets that are good? That’s a Warrior.

Sad fact is Warrior compared Rangers is a god. Not saying Warriors don’t have any downsides, but its a flexible class that is hard to kill.

Oh? No pet….right? Get an Ogre pet or a Fire pet. And don’t worry about not being able to use them in WvW, pets don’t do WvW lol.

Bandaids on a severed limb. Any class can eat stamina food and get almost +50% end regen and that puts us right back in the harsh nerf category, where we don’t need to be.

Why aren’t we in the not nerfed category? Why aren’t we getting trait compression to be on par with most every other class? Why aren’t we getting good bandages for the broken pets (like aoe damage reduction to pets only from npc aoes). Why aren’t we getting traits moved to more logical trees? Tell me why.

The lack of response from the dev that was posting here should answer that for you. Basically either they cant, or don’t want to mess with it.

So….. what I think

1. The development team does not have the capabilities of fixing this class without screwing the whole game up. Out of sight, out of mind.
2. The development team really does not care about the Ranger class compared to others. Warrior is a great example of that.
3. They honestly think the class is fine. Even though the Ranger the butt of jokes from WvW to PvE, the devs just shrug off every bit of criticism as a whine.

I base these opinions on lack of feedback regarding our mechanic, as well as the dev livestream with 2 devs that are obviously not familiar at all with the class. Have you noticed no dev response in how many days now?

I don’t know where this myth that SPVP players are talented has come from considering the SPvP meta seems to be ‘go on forums and complain about all classes that aren’t yours, doubly so if class has pets’. Though they are very skilled at that I guess.

PvP players tend to be better than PvE players because if you kitten up in PvP, even just a tiny little bit like missing your cripple, it can be the difference between victory and defeat so PvPers tend to be a little better at the game as a whole.

Granted, this is only for competitive PvP players that are doing tournies regularly and are in it to win it, a hot join hero is gonna be about as good as your average zergling, and then there’s also some REALLY good PvE players too and etc.

Just by and large most PvPers tend to be better than most PvErs, but again there’s A LOT of different factors that play into it so don’t worry about it too much (like there being significantly less PvPers than PvE players).

People take SPvP seriously? LOL

I run high condition damage ranger with two bears. I can safely solo a champion. But it can only be done with bears.

I can solo champs with a Drake and Spider. Almost every open world PvE Champ can be soloed.
