Change up the sigils on your weapons and runes on your armor.
Armor: Rune of Hoelbrak

Hammer: Sigil of Intelligence, Sigil of Paralyztion
Greatsword: Sigil of Doom (Make them regret switching out their condi clear when they see a GS warrior), Sigil of Impact (One of your best damaging combos is going to be Hammer stun followed by 100b).

Also switch out bull’s charge for signet of fury. You’ll get that extra crit rate and if you fight a mesmer who over load you with condition before fight even starts you have a way to clear it with instantly filled adrenaline bar.

I am not sure why @Thaddeus.4891 keeps saying to put condi pressure on all 3 classes considering that you are running a power build with literally 0 source of condition but some of his advice is still valid. To add to it:

Thief: The biggest thing I can add is SWING SWING SWING, keep moving and swinging both your weapons. If the thief wants to come in for back stab make them pay for it by getting at least 2 auto attacks before he moves out of range again. If thief is perma blinding you that means they are using pistol offhand, again SWING SWING SWING just outside of the smoke field they put down to leap through and make them pay again with an auto attack or two for trying to stealth in the first place. If thief successfully stealth’s using combo, use your GS 5 and let them waste half or all of their expensive stealth just gap closing you.

Mesmers: you will get better at this with practice but one of the biggest things to dodge is the shatter, when you see all the clones closing in on you dodge. Don’t let them bait out your burst skill, a lot of the smart ones will load you with conditions just to the point of annoyance and when you use that burst they will unload their real condi burst. If they move out of range of hammer after loading you with condis, swap to GS, use #5 and then use the GS burst. If you fight in a condensed area, just aoe and cleave their clones and if in open area, just keep switching targets till you see the mesmer with buffs.

Elementalist: They are actually the easiest class to not die to, not win against but to not die to. They have only 1 large damage dealing and might stacking combo and if you interrupt that or dodge it, they can try to keep hitting you with pathetic lightning whip. When you see the field field, stun, knock them out and just put offensive pressure on them. If they cannot stack might, their damage is underwhelming. If they manage to successfully stack might and about to use fire grab make sure you clear condi just before that. About killing them, your goal is just to make them use up their stun breakers. If you don’t stun them and try to just use dps its unlikely you will do anything because they are excellent healers and condi clearers. After they use their mist form and arcane shield, its as simple as hammer stun followed by gs #2, #3, #4, #5 and back to hammer to finish the job.

One more thing to add, all 3 classes have EXCELLENT escape mechanisms so you should remember to save your biggest for when they are not at full health because if you use hammer stun, gs2345 on a tanky ele or mesmer theres a good chance they won’t die before your rotation is up and will be able to blink and stealth or lightning ride away from you. More so the mesmer because instant stealth and blink and they can be gone and out of combat very quick. Thief however, if they have used their stun breaks and are running zerk gear you will be able to kill them within that 3 sec stun.

What a massive text wall, here’s a TL:DR.

Bait out their stun breakers, avoid using your burst cleasing ire unless you NEED too and be mindful about when you use your massive burst.

Elementalist vs Thief

Vert.5041

Correct me if i’m wrong, but…

- Ele range is stronger than thief. Just lava font + fireball is stronger than either shortbow or pistols.

- Thieve’s strongest DPS is dagger/dagger, which is melee ranged and single target. They typically switch out MH dagger for a sword for anything with cleaving, which isn’t as good.

Yes, thief with pistol is kind of terrible for pve but besides elementalist every class has a better melee dps.

Slight correction, daggers now cleave two mobs, when thieves need to hit more than 2 mobs their dps compared to elementalist is lower. This however is a non issue, as you mostly skip all normal mobs in dungeons and the ones you do kill down so fast that more dps would save only a fraction of a second to a second at most. Sword dps is not that bad though, a lot of the thief’s damage comes from multipliers so it still has high base damage and is a great defiant stripping tool and makes clearing hard hitting trash like the wolves in coe much easier due to its near perma stun capability.

Thief shortbow is not a dps weapon set, its 100% utility. It has spammable blast finisher, great travel speed, bounce attack for things like the flowers in ta or the fire turrets in ac, it can keep mobs perma weakened and poisoned.

Basically, both ele and thief offer top tier dps where it matters and top tier utility where it matters. Pick the one you like better, there is a place in the meta for them both.

Pets in WvW camps

Vert.5041

I’ve played some more and taken in some 1v1 and 1v2’s. This build worked well for those and i don’t want to give that up to make camps easier.

I’m working on timing the recall pet. Unlike the swap, the recall can’t be done at the last minute.

Passive mode is a good idea. I’ll have to give that a shot.

Passive mode is not a good idea but the suggested default mode unless you are map completing and want to be a bit lazy.

About the pets, you can just switch them out when you are not in combat. If you want to keep pvp pets and make camp a bit easier, I suggest you keep 1 pvp pet and switch out 2nd for the poison or ice drake.

Ice drake is my suggested option because if you get ganked while killing the npcs you can aoe chill and use that super speed to escape.

Pets in WvW camps

in Ranger

Vert.5041

LOS (line of sight) the npcs into a small area and use spider and confusion drake. Give yourself venom and apply poison to all with maul then switch to confusion drake apply confusion and dps them down with piercing arrows or GS.

If you are running power build aand you can’t dps before confusion drake is dead, there’s something wrong with your build or armor.

Same thing if you are running traps, LOS them to corner. Give yourself venom, apply poison with torch #5, use traps, switch to shortbow and use piercing arrows to dps them down. Again if you cannot kill them before your pet dies there’s something wrong with your armor or build.

If you don’t kill them all and your drake is dead, target the head supervisor and switch to spider. You will get the immobilize and you can kite it from there.

Also forget troll urgent, go with healing spring. With either sword #2 or GS #3 you can get 2 healing bursts each by leaping through water field and that will total healing and regen to greater than troll urgent.

Elementalist vs Thief

Ele is better at buffing / supporting the group and thus especially useful in dungeons. Thief is only useful for the group when you need stealth (for example in Arah). They both deal good damage, but ele is more effective (because frostbow) against structures while thief does more damage on mobs and single bosses. Both are pretty fun to play but die pretty fast if you make mistakes. Except if you get that trait for the thief where you’re healed for 15% of your crit-damage.

Is the gap between single target DPS big enough that it needs to be taken into consideration or is it somewhat balanced there?

kittening phone fail. Typed 2 paragraphs and when I go to post it tells me to login again.

The difference between ele and thief is so insignificant that all it would take is a small mistake like ele dropping Ice bow a little late or thief going below 6 initiative and that would determine which did more dps.

Pick the class that appeals to your aesthetics, play the game for a while and when you get into competitive speed running make a new char because you will be making many alts anyway.

Keep in mind that the upcoming expansion could make necros highest DPS (LOL).

The animation wouldn’t make sense if you could do it in the move. If you look closely it’s more than just spinning around. Your ranger is actually hitting projectiles to redirect or reflect them and I don’t see how you could make that viable while on the move.

I’d improve the skill be increasing it’s target cap, increase radius, and applying the vulnerability on first few hits so the damage on the back end is more rewarding. Perhaps making it block 1 hit is also a good idea or I just want my ranger to be as op as possible and this idea is not so good.

Tequatl the Sunless is too easy again

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vert.5041

You may have been pressing 1 but if you did it without turrets the other players were giving you reflect for finger projectile and you had a lot of ice bows to get through phase 1 scales.

Teq is only easy now because it’s been out for so long and it’s been optimized by the players.

The changes that are needed for teq is an instanced version for a max of 25 people. Removing zerg for the equation is imo the only way to give any real challenge because you have a role and of it goes unfulfilled you can fail. Obviously this would be in addition to open world version so I can get my spoons daily.

Vert.5041

Think about it this way. When you are doing your Ascalonian catacombs for the 999th time, would you want some one bringing a suboptimal dps build so they can extend your run by a min or two?

Obviously min or two doesn’t sound like much but when you combine it with the occasional down or wipe it adds up fast.

There is also the players like myself with limited play time aand saving 10 mins on 3 or 4 dungeons is an extra match of pvp for or an extra attempt at a keep capture in wvw. In group play, imo your personal play style or preferences come second to the overall objective of the group and in dungeons that’s primarily speed.

WvW, PvP and open world events are the places for playing your preferred way because the first 2 rely heavily on skill and the latter your effect is only on yourself so taking 20 seconds to kill a mob vs 10 or 15 is only effecting you.

Serious question: Counters to a turret engi?

in PvP

Posted by: Vert.5041

Vert.5041

Staff ele. Go zerk amulet and defensive traits. Your job would be roaming and not fighting on point. When someone calls for help, drop a meteor shower, lava font, eruption. That’ll kill the turrets, switch to water for last burst of damage with ice spike, heal your ally and move to next point.

Zerk Ranger, your arrow shower should significantly damage the turrets. Move in with GS to Maul remaining to death.

Warrior, with stability it’s easy to kill turrets. Axe works best imo.

Bunker Guardian, I don’t know the traditional bunker guard but I play mine with staff and mace or hammer traited for large symbols. I’ve never fought engi with this but I’d imagine you should he able to survive while your symbols tick away at the turrets. You also have lootstick auto attack.

edit: forgot to mention, everything said above is for when you are going in to help an ally with a turret engi. 1v1, any good engi will wait out your stability and cc the kitten out of you before you can take down turrets.

So really your only option is to run and come back with 2 people or just let them have that point. You can 5v4 the other 2 points now.

When they go invisible switch immediately to your melee weapon. If it’s sword, swing 2 to 3 times then use your evades at which point the thief will most likely be out of stealth. Then you change to longbow, use the Stealth skill followed by auto attacks. Your goal is to put enough offensive pressure to get thief to use his dodges at which point you want to use point blank shot and unload your rapid fire. Whenever you get too far from thief they will most likely try to shadow step to you some how, dodge that steal. Rinse and repeat.

Same tactics used for great sword but you just use the block instead of evade.

Also when they are invisible don’t keep still. You need to make it hard for them to land that back stab.

Make your elementalist a human female like 80% of all elementalists and get it over with.

Axe based Beast master is my favorite build in zergs. I play it with GS and basically how it works is:

Stack might with axe, send in pet from the flank and get it inside enemy zerg. It’ll start doing 2k autos and you can sit there and laugh because no one actively focuses a pet in zergs. You do have to be very careful avoiding the initial well bomb or your pet is dead in half a second. The pets I use are river drake for cleave and lightning breath, and a snow owl for the single target deeps.

The GS I use more like as a finisher or a defensive weapon. Dat 7k maul on 5 low health targets is just glorious. For defense you have a block and stun, plus you can leap through healing spring for 2x healing burst.

The situation and your goals will determine pets choice, not build.

You didn’t state what this was for? PvP, WvW or PvE

In pve you want to run with really only 4 pets.
Jungle stalker – damage
drake – Cleave damage
bear – condition removal
spider – long range damage for world bosses like Karka queen

In PvP and Wvw
Wolf – this should never leave your side, you have an on demand knockdown and fear
Dog – default second pet, changed depending on situation
Jungle spider – aoe poison field and poison on f2
Bear – in case you run troll urgent, you’ll need the condition removal
Bird – I am not that big a fan but in a beast master build the damage they put out with 25 stacks of might is just awesome. I’d go for snow owl.

on a side note: while birds give themselves swiftness, I find dog to give the most reliable dps because of the cripple, knockdown and immobilize.

Question about Charr characters.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Vert.5041

Vert.5041

Do you have a Charr Vert? The tail clips through the armor in 90% of the cases. The horns/ears/face clips through a lot of helmets.

Nope, don’t have a charr but that’s due to previewing many armors and being disappointed.

Let me clarify, what I meant by clipping is the weapons to armor compatibility. I’ve found that quite of few of the 2h weapons that clip on humans/sylvari will not on charr. This applies to 1h weapons as well unless you like the skirt type of Pant or the
med armor long coats. This however is an issue with all races.

I addressed the tail issue in the brackets after my first sentence. The tail is just ignored by the designers when the port armors from humans to charr, in most cases at least.

Pew pew Ranger eliminates most build choices

Vert.5041

It’s amusing to see threads like these still pop up. Like Aomine said, the current ranger is a far cry from what it once was. There’s a reason we don’t see many, if any, rangers regularly in the top tier PvP teams. Longbow is not overpowered. Get over it and L2P.

Be kinder to this poor man. He has recently endured great pain in the form of a dry, no lube, bleeding anal tearing with the arrow of some AWESOME ranger.

To OP,

Listen my friend, I know your clenched little butt (w) hole hurts right now but I’ll teach you the way to never let someone prolapse your weak kitten in the future.

When you see the pew pew coming, reflect. If that is not possible or on cool down, dodge just once towards the ranger and put offensive pressure on them. This will prompt them to stealth or switch to GS.

If they are in GS, you switch to ranged option to kite until they try to go to longbow again, close gap and dodge to avoid the incoming knockback, switch to melee and stick tight to them. Now when they go to chanel rapid fire just 360 them and it’ll cancel the attack…Oops they are kittent.

You have now successfully learnt to counter the mighty pew pew. If this does not help, make a pew pew and just join us. You’ll surely learn to counter a ranger if you play one.

Vert.5041

Your concern for being pigeon holed into healing for the elementalist is unwarranted. In PvE everyone is in charge of keeping themselves alive. In WvW and PvP the most you will do in terms of healing is provide water fields and even that role in WvW is lessening with all the Rangers running around right now with healing spring.

Also with elementalist at any time you’ll have 8 more skills than a warrior despite the lesser weapon options.

Your concern about warriors not being accepted in a guild is LUDACRIS or ludicrous. Warriors have multiple viable builds for pvp and wvw. The reason you see tons of them is because of their lower learning curve and the less punishing more face roll pve gameplay.

Conclusion, both are viable in all aspects of the game. In pvp and wvw more than class choice what matters is your skills, knowledge, and how you can apply that to outplay your opponents.

Solution: make ele first and learn the game on hard mode (once you learn ele it’s even more face roll ownage in pve than warrior) and go back to make a warrior so you can do dungeons for the 1000th time with your eyes closed.

Warrior – they have the mobility but are not that great at ranged play. Their best ranged weapon plays better in mid to melee range. They do have decent condition builds as well as power.

Although they suffer no clipping issues from armor, a lot of armor choices for them are stupid and poorly designed (you’ll see a lot of ignoring the tail, humongous shoulders, ABSURDLY designed helmets) but there are also some good ones.

Weapons and back pieces do suffer some scaling issues but that is very individual aand you’re better off just previewing it all yourself.

Vert.5041

Leveling – you can get to max level within 12 Hours if you want too, and earn some good cash and karma because this form of leveling is just joining a champion farming train. However if you want to take your time and explore a bit, I’d say 40 hours is a good goal to set to reach max level.

Gear – by the time you get to 80 you’ll have enough cash/karma to get a full set of exotic gear and if you don’t you can just do dungeons for a week which will definitely get you max geared. Although this is only for exotic gear, if you are a completion is and want the best gear which is ascended gear it’ll take a month of dedicated play or 2 – 3 months of casual play while you wvw. This however is not necessary, the difference between exotic and ascended is only 5% and because this is a very skill oriented game the 5% makes no difference. You can get ascended accessories easily and in a month of casual play you can get a weapon as well reducing that 5% even further. The armor is the hard part and not worth it imo (after 2 years I still have no desire to get it).

PvP – is very different from wvw and pve. Whatever stats you have on weapons armor goes away when you enter pvp zone and it becomes just a skin with the same stats as everyone else…You’ll discover more inside the game but all you need to know is EVERYONE and everything is 100% equal in pvp and the ONLY thing that matters are you skills and the skills if your team.

Can Someone Teach me how to Sword?

Vert.5041

Just use GS.

This is a huge issue for me, since I’m a perfectionist and I don’t feel I’m contributing to dungeon runs unless I’m doing optimal damage.

Also the obligatory 17% is not a trivial DPS increase.

17% (where is the evidence for this btw?) is pretty slight when you consider things like 1 2second dodge roll in a 30 sec boss fight results in a ~7% DPS loss, and the evade on the auto of GS means you’re less likely to need to dodge roll when using a GS.

Furthermore, 17% more DPS on 1 char in a 30sec boss fight saves 1second.

As I said above though. People focus on the very slight DPS difference when boss fights are only a small fraction of the time required to complete an instance, and this is where GS’s higher ground speed likely results in faster D completion times, and that’s before you even factor in higher DPS uptime due to GS auto-attack evade.

This.

In pugs or even organized groups sword vs gs makes little difference as long your gear and traits are on point. If you are dying in dungeons switch to GS while you learn the dungeons and can anticipate 1 or 2 seconds before you need to dodge and this is when the sword will be your better option. You will have time to disengage and dodge because you know all the tells.

Also go into pvp and practice hitting the moving golem, when you do it enough you’ll always know what stage of the auto attack the sword is on and that combined with your dungeon knowledge will make you a proficient sword user.

Oh BTW, you can always go full melee and have sword/x + gs, switching to gs will instantly cancel your sword aa and let you dodge.

Let me tell you, when I didn’t have swirling winds and I blew my arcane shield and mist form to survive initial blast from ranger while I killed the engi in front of me it sure felt like kitten to eat 1.5 to 2.5k autos while I tried to find something to LOS with only to die by an unavoidable last flurry of rapid fire.

Argh…paragraph breaks, man. Paragraph breaks are your friend.

I’d like to re echo this. If you hope to get more people to read that wall of text I’d strongly suggest you organize your post more and add a small TL:DR section.

As far as the nexon manager is concerned, it’s irrelevant. Every business side of a game ever will do the minimum required in terms of appeasing the community while squeezing the most money out of them.

The difference is that maplestory is primarily a pve game, and the gear treadmill is virtually endless with the RnG on gear stats, this allowed them to make it so P2W. In the more pvp/wvw oriented GW2 literally the only thing that evil nexon exec can charge you for is some convenience items and skins. Right now through average casual play time you can have your character max level and geared to exotics in a month. If you can get to endgame within a month what can they possibly cage you for?

About the trait system, it’s unclear to me how charging a measly 3g is in anyway leading to a more P2W GW2…more so when you consider the traits can be achieved by doing events anyway.

When you get 2 trait points, staff can become especially good with the increased radius on your ground targeted spells.

Also, I’d switch out that arcane wave for ice bow/lightning hammer depending on situation. When you go up against vets/elites/large groups of ranged mobs you can perma blind them with lightning hammer or when you go up against a champ you can freeze them for 5 seconds with ice bow and do a lot of damage before they come to.

The base would have interchangeable f2 skills which you can pick from that family regardless of skin choice so a sylvan hound can have the krytan hound immobilize skill and vice versa. Since the other 4 random skills remain the same in the current system across the pets in one family not much would need to change.

It has a very good population, even before the $10 sale brought in a mass of players I found no shortages of people to play with and with the megaservers system even during the slow times of the day it never feels particularly empty.

Enjoying this game is entirely up to you because there’s no gear treadmill and as such the goals are totally self created and driven. You can spend 2 months getting gold just to get a cool looking skin or after you have your character geared in 2-3 weeks you can go to wvw and never look at pve again or you can spend your time mastering all the dungeons and fractal content + more…you choose.

Styles in combat?

There are two types of apparel, outfits and armor.

Armor is obviously visible everywhere, outfits are like skins that go over your armor. You can toggle these outfits on/off and while they are on they are permanently visible (yes even in combat).

IIf you’ve been gone for a while what I said might not be enough of an explanation, in this case I suggest you wiki wardrobe.

That’s not a bug. She’s my grandma and I gave her that knife for her birthday! Leave her alone!

What a bullkittenter. Stop stealing grandmas, if she were yours you’d know that is actually a man dressed as a frail woman to lure out the god kitten centaurs and slaughter them all for what they did to his granddaughter (also my sister).

I like most of this post, but the end kind of ignores the problem that all this presents: other stats are kind of useless. You said it yourself, if you can’t do it in zerker gear, it’s a l2p problem, and not even very kittene at that. and once you’ve got it down, zerker stats are the way to go. I just think it’s kind of sad that we have all these other stats and they end up being almost completely useless once you know what you’re doing. Why does nobody have a problem with that?

This is present in most games though. At endgame every class has an optimized setup skills and armor wise. In every game all groups take the least amount of def/healing and stack dps after, it just so happens that in this game the def/healing comes out of builds or skills like when I swap to warhorn in CoE against alpha to give everyone vigor after every dodge.

All I see it as is a point of view change. In other games where you’d swap armor and a few skills, here you swap weapons/skills based on your needs.

On a technical level, this could be true because of how useless condition damage is in PvE. On a realistic level however, after almost 3 years, I’ve yet to find a group in which no one ever makes a deadly mistake.

I understand that a lot of people are all about making the game as much of a chore as possible, but there’s still people out there who play to have fun — who don’t skip all the trash mobs because they want the experience points, or who don’t want to only play the most optimized direct damage build.

I’m just speaking from experience when I say that berserker isn’t very helpful. Every time I joined a “zerker only” group, I ended up having to switch to my cleric to keep the group alive. You can argue that they sucked, but if you ask me, this whole “meta” mentality is far worse.

Zerker only pugs are at times bad experiences, sometimes people want to carried or want to fill party cast so they just put zerker only. What you have to do is find like minded people, look for the ones asking about might/cc mmanagement etc in pugs and friend them.

I know when I do a dungeon train with every good person I’ve met in the bad pugs it’s actually a competition to see who was the least carried in the dungeon or who downed the least and if everyone is zerker and the group composition is decent…well its CLEAR that at least 1 or 2 people in a lot of zerk only groups are nitwits, or just someone so tired of dungeon and wants to be carried.

Bear bow Ranger.

OR come up with a better excuse like I’m a war veteran and I can’t dodge. There is no feasible way that your computer performance would hinder you from playing in melee range.

In all seriousness, if the real reason is that you’ve now become frustrated of dying a few times on guardian and warrior and want an easier class to pick and feel pro at it go with ranger and get a longbow. They have play styles where you’ll feel like a pro in a few mins all the way up to stuff more complex than warrior/guardian like micromanaging pets, and learning to use sword effectively.

trinity system

Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 are two completely different genres of games. You couldn’t shove a trinity system in the latter because the game is designed around allowing anyone to play both alone and with anyone else.

In the original Guild Wars, you can’t play alone. The game is built around always having a party at your side. If it’s not players, it’s henchmen. Running around without a healer is asking for punishment, and without a tank to get in the way, mobs will take out the healers first.

In Guild Wars 2, you’re rewarded for dealing damage only. You can specialize your character to become a pure healer, or a pure tank, and you can be very efficient at it, but in a group, you will get no loot whatsoever. Furthermore, trying to do some exploring on your own without being able to deal a descent amount of damage is going to get tedious, and fast.

And no, going “full out DPS” is not very helpful. Most people don’t understand that you need to be able to survive, and the “zerker meta” is far from ideal in most cases. After all, you don’t deal any damage when you’re dead.

Your sentiments might be valid if this was the first few weeks of release. I’m sure when people were discovering dungeons s for the first time they went with all sorts of set ups. After 2 years, full zerk dps is the best option because the game relies almost exclusively on active defense to stay alive and when you know the boss or the party knows and explain to you when to dodge/block/blind what use have you of stats like healing/vitality/toughness.

If you cannot survive in the zerk meta, it’s a simple situation of Learn 2 Play. Also even when you are zerk you can add a kitten ton of survivability by simply switching a few traits while you L2P.

Also, if you want to play a healer might I suggest engie or ele. Even in full zerk you can provide excellent healing Burts to teammates if you see they are about to down.

For tank, you can go with guardian or mesmer as they both provide excellent defense e utility in the forms of reflects and condition removal.

For dps, you can go warrior/ranger to provide things like banners, frost spirit, spotter…etc.

There’s your trinity, you have classes that use defensive/healing/offensive utilities while still putting out damage. The trinity hasn’t died but simply evolved.

I think the idea is to add immersion and lore friendliness with the toggle helmet, shoulders, and gauntlets features. The idea being that you’d toggle them off while in town or not in combat.

They’ve obviously failed at this. A better option would’ve been to auto toggle whatever you have selected when you draw or sheath your weapon.

As to your point, I agree…they should just make everything toggle able. We’d have a lot more options with outfits and so forth. Unfortunately we will not these QoL(quality of life) changes at all……………….maybe in GW3.

Warrior or Engi?

If the look of your character is important to you go with any race besides asura (regardless of class choice, if you choose engineer I’d strongly suggest you re roll your engineer).

A lot of the armor customizations become trivial during a lot of content when your not always zoomed in. You can make your asuras quite large but imo that kind of ruins the race.

Short of reworking the pets and the sword auto attack (look, you can leave the stupid locking leaps…just make all stages of the attack cleave to some degree at least and make #2 and #3 absolutely instantly cancel the leaps and dodge immediately), right now ranger is as perfect as it’s going to be for me.

By process of elimination:

Sword – DPS, survivability to some extent
GS – Cleave, Burst damage and mobility
Axe – Beast master, ranged aoe (lol)
Short bow – Long range condition
Long bow – pew pew pew (anything more left to say?)

The only think a staff can be without making something else obsolete would be some sort of support/aoe soft cc weapon. Due to this being the case and us not getting an awesome melee bostaff (Martial Mastery) like weapon I would request Anet to give us lootstick. I would totally be okay with re skinned guardian skills.

No data needed. Take a look at all the top speed running dungeon teams. They all run some combination of force/slaying/night. I think it’s safe to assume the top speed running teams have performed their own tests.

PvE - Eng vs Thief (solo / survival in LS/SW)

I would say both classes are the same survivability wise, they just do it differently. A thief in pve can literally Perma blind anything other than bosses. Yes even vets, elites and all the SW mobs. Engineer while having access to smoke field, it’s less constant and less on demand. They can control mobs with rifle and if you time those CCs right it has a similar effect to perma blind where the mobs just can’t do kitten to you. Also on engineer you got gear shield and 1500 range so there’s that.
