I started another thread on this topic before I read this, my bad. Just to add my 2 cents, isn’t it amazing that Anet can create a system that facilitates you having items in your inventory that literally do not exist in the game for 2+ years after they were removed yet they cant find a way to have a LS quest item stay in your inventory longer than 20 hours.

LS Quest Items only last 24 hours

in Living World

Wander.5780

Why did Anet think it was a good idea to have quest items for the LS only last 24 hours? seriously ive had to stop playing the game altogether for 2 days now because the “bitter cold” phase of the S3 part 3 quest line requires you to get a bunch of mats to make an elixer, in which only stays in your inventory for 24 hours…. if you dont use it, it’s gone, and you don’t get the prior quest back to tally acquiring them all over again. I play this game mostly on my 1hr lunch breaks from work and what little time I have available at home, so it’s really frustrating to have to go back to square 1 when I’ve already collected what I need and just haven’t used it or turned it in yet. Anyone else get irritated by this?

Why is the endgame so "unrewarding"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wander.5780

Wander.5780

Trust me, it’s better with Anet’s implementation, it keeps the game fresh and ready to return to if you take extended leaves away like I have been since 2012. When you have a constant “rewarding” end game such as in games like FFXIV and WoW, the reward only exists if you’re willing to grind endlessly for it. Don’t get me wrong, I know this game has legendaries which are a monumental time and resource sink, but they aren’t necessary to complete content like the Artifact Weapon Leveling system that now exists in WoW, or the endless atma drops you have to farm for just one phase of your Artifact weapon in FFXIV. As the poster above me said, exotic gear is usually good enough to do whatever you need to do in the game, maybe except high level fractals or the new raid.

I already made a thread about how we should be at least given some gems, black lion keys, or free old LS content. It really isn’t hard to do on their end, and if they haven’t even considered it, it really proves how little they care about their customers.

Mwell as much as I’m inclined to be critical towards Anet I don’t want to see them bankrupt. Gems and Keys are source of their income and I really don’t want them to have less money, especially in times like these.

Sure they can say that leges aren’t cancelled but “merely” indefinitely postponed and give that as a reason for not releasing the skins to the public. But I really think they all the good will they can muster. Yeah it doesn’t solve deeper systemic problems but it’s something!

You’re honestly telling me that anet giving everyone a handful of black lion chest keys will lead them to go bankrupt? if that is the case then they are really worse off than everyone thinks.

Personally, gems wouldn’t appease me in the least. I wanted legendaries because it was something to DO in this game where there is so little right now giving players a reason to log in. Giving me gems means that I can buy some skin, look at it for a minute or two, and then log out because there’s still nothing to do in game. I’d rather they reverse the decision, and fulfill their promises. They need to learn that deadlines are a thing, and while there are times where you have to push deadlines, you can’t do that time and time again like this company does.

I agree, however, when they monumentally screw up time and time again and expect us to just endure whatever lengths of time between content they originally stated would be here, there HAS to be a make good on their end. They need to give us something as a token of good faith… its a measure of respecting your customers.

People quitting the game in droves doesn’t improve the game either. If there was something to stop the hemorraghing of players in the form of a gift you would be against it?

Do you have numbers and actual proof of these “droves”?

I think it is pretty obvious with the general discontent on the forums, which has pretty much been the case since the following week after HoT release. The endless dump truck of gem store items to keep the revenue stream going with no steady content updates also indicates they are understaffed and not making enough money.

I’ll admit its speculation and nothing more, but the same trend was happening with WoW shortly after WoD was released… lots of moaning on the forums and then when the quarterly subscriber numbers were released the next year, they were abysmal.

It should be the job of the company to make it up to their customers. If Amazon has a guaranteed delivery date on an item you ordered, and the order doesn’t meet the guaranteed delivery time, Amazon makes it right via refund, kitten credit, or a free month on your prime membership.

We continually receive nothing from the dev team other than lip service when something they promised wasn’t delivered. Why not at least offer us something to make it right like some gems or some black lion keys, maybe release some of the older LS content for free… give us something!!!

If we had an official apology with some sort of make good like free gems or black lion chest keys or ANYTHING from these devs I would be more forgiving and gracious. When company’s don’t deliver on their promise, it is their duty to make it right by their customers… nothing has been made right by us and we’ve been just given lip service over and over and over again. I commend MO for actually breaking the news but the way the whole thing was worded and no make good to the playerbase whatsoever is insulting.

I agree with Colin’s excuse for the cancelling of the legendary weapons (more developers on living world means more world content), but realistically all we got was that we lost a feature that was slated to be introduced with nothing palpable given in exchange.

Yep, no reward for those of us that bought the game with that expectation. Just more lip service and not even a pittance of an apology or makegood… Only the unreasonable expectation to keep us all waiting for content we paid for while we get the middle finger every day we login called “New Gem Store Items Available!”

Let’s also not forget the absolute piece of garbage Mac client that has been in beta for the better part of 3 years. It runs horrendously, and is still lacking graphical options. I actually had to subject myself to running a bootcamp windows 10 installation to run the game properly.

He made a lot of good points and in general I agree with what he said; basically discussed how I feel about the situation.

It’s amazing how far things have dropped in the last year, though. I was so pumped when the HoT announcement happened and even on release/for a while after I enjoyed it. A good expansion seems like such an easy formula and they were going to check a lot of the boxes, even if I did have some issues with what it seemed they were adding. Even with my qualms (mainly that it seemed like there wasn’t a lot of content in the expansion, especially given the $50 price point, fears which proved to be justified) I would have been happy enough had they just managed to keep getting stuff out.

Oh well, it’s time to wait a bit more I guess. fixing dungeon rewards and adding some new fractals would actually be a good step in the right direction and would restore some faith in anet for me

They already stated they have completely abandoned dungeon development, and fractals have had 2 updates in the near 4 years that the core game has been out. Don’t expect either. This is a perpetually unfinished game and all signs are pointing towards it being that way going forward until there is another inevitable disappointment.

Totally support Mike O Brien in his decision, he is a legend in the field and I trust his ability to evaluate what’s best for the game.
I’m not saying that not releasing the new legendaries isn’t bad, but it is the less bad that could happen, also focusing on the LS is good for me since I don’t care about Legendaries…
To the people getting upset about this thing…just get over it, if you like the game just for the legendaries or you bought Hot only for the new legendaries it was totally your fault not of the devs, you are free to move to something else, why wasting your time complaining about something that will not change?
I think we got too spoiled with constant updates and new free stuff that we forgot how much they did for the game till now. We already had legendaries with the expansion, now we will have 1 free. The others were not meant to be included into Hot, it was planned but they changed their mind, and that’s fine because it’s their game, their idea and they are the ones working on it. It’s not like you can wake up go to George R. R. Martin or another writer and say that he has to write his books differently and that the date of the release of his books were wong or that he promised somthing and he can not change his mind, because it’s his creation, if you like it you read it! The last thing that I want is that the devs start to follow every direction from the players and go till the end on everything that is on the table just because they promised it, even if it is not ready and not worth to be released compared to the rest. That would end up in just a big mess.

The fact we haven’t gotten LS content for nearly a year and just now they are axing all legendary development to continue said LS content development is ridiculous, and an indication that you cannot believe anything the devs say regarding future content. If you can’t trust the devs, why would anyone want to pump money into this game? WvW has been broken forever, HoT content is lacking and what is available is time gated and not fun. A lot of people aren’t happy with the direction of this game since the release of HoT, and now this happening is further proof that there are really bad decisions made at anet consistently and we are the ones paying for it.

Maybe it’s time to look at spending my money elsewhere, I’m tired of the lip service and the lack of substance from the devs regarding this game. FFXIV has some interesting things on the horizon, and WoW will be back in the spotlight in a couple months. At least when you pay a sub fee there’s accountability to be had regarding content releases and a way to voice your opinion other than complaining on the forums to devs that practice bait and switch tactics.

Thanks for all the comments. I know there’s nothing I’m going to say that will make you feel better, but I’ll share some final thoughts for the night.

I said three weeks ago I’d focus on sustainability and quality. I want to reiterate the part about sustainability. Be angry about legendary weapons, sure, but how about the recent drought of content? That kind of thing happens when we spread ourselves too thin, and when we let the content development pipeline empty out so we can fight fires. What I think we actually owe you is sustainable, predictable, high-quality content. I’m making a decision that’s painful in the short-term so we can position ourselves to deliver that.

Consider this… HoT currently has: 3 new maps (which are still buggy looking at DS) which are grindy as hell, Elite Specs which are heavy powercreep (pay to win in PvP…), a Story which is short but at least good (if you ignore the myriad of bugs f.e. in the Mordi battle), Guild halls, 2 Raids with 5 1/2 bosses, a new PvP map (which is quite unbalanced) and now only 4 legy weaps (3/4 being rarely used thanks to being underpowered or buggy)… That’s it?

I previously addressed the “half an expansion” thing, and I can point you to pages like this one and this one (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns), but that doesn’t matter because it’s just arguing. My job is to entertain you, not to argue with you.

I strongly believe that we will in fact entertain you. We’re a team of people who love the game that you love, and are working on things we’re confident you’ll love. But I’m not here to convince you of that, and I wouldn’t expect you to take my word for it. You can make that judgment in April, and each subsequent time we ship. I will work to make you happy, and I’ll do it by making you happy with what we ship, not with what we promise to ship.

Mo

And no mention about the fact that they have people already working on a future expansion and people working on gliders and weapon skins that are released almost weekly.

I would agree with what he’s saying but when the facts show that you spread your resources too thin and the first thing you do is cutting down the promises you made instead of cutting down the things you will SELL us in the future, then I just can’t really respect you much.

I already paid you money based on the promises that you made about the content you would deliver me for the money I paid you.

Deliver your promises first and then sell me new stuff. Not the other way around.

I couldn’t have said it better myself, the elephant in the room is the endless gem store junk that keeps being released. You can’t have a legitimate excuse as a developer for allocating development time elsewhere because you can’t focus on legendarys, when you’re using development time to pump out new glider skins and outfits every other day.

Legendary weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wander.5780

I couldn’t care less about there not being more Legendary’s, since I currently don’t have any… But the gem shop items need to take a step back. If there are what appears to be large amounts of development time being spent on shoehorning in some crappy looking weapon skins or gliders on a near daily basis, there must be development time that can be spent designing new weapons, LS content, and PvP.

Wander.5780

I just want less garbage on the Gem Store… maybe if Anet put some items on there that actually looked good and didn’t cost the equivalent of $15 cash worth of gems then I would buy more. And I’m not talking about Outfits either.

Here’s a simple fix to the HoT metas: make the Ascended items that drop in the pods and caches at the end of the metas no longer account bound… its that simple. If you can sell Crystalline Ore or Ley Line Crystals on the TP, then people wouldn’t need to farm DS or TD metas. For those that want to brave it and make some gold by cutting pods/opening caches for crystalline ore and ley line crystals to sell, they can do so as well… its a win for both.

completely agree, having 2 medium armor wearing characters (engineer and ranger) and both being Charr and Asura, medium armor ESPECIALLY sucks. If its not big sloppy looking leather tassets hanging low around the waistline its ugly textured pieces that often clip with back items and sheathed weapons. Humans and Sylvari can pull it off, but almost every other race looks terrible in it. If it weren’t for the class based armor pieces you can get with the HoT achievements, (Scrapper’s Mask, etc.) there would be nothing I like.

Just do the meta. I was trying to get a the one I needed for Ydalir a while back. I probably opened 30-40 pods running around non progressing DS maps. Nothing. One meta and I got it. You might get lucky and get one. But you might not!

The problem is I completed the meta last night, had the Plated Hammer in my inventory, and when I looted the chest there was no drop… I do have a Herald with Glint’s Bastion that I got the drop from the first try on the Dragon’s Chest, it’s just not the case for my Engie.

Basically, I dont want to have to run the full meta event to completion again only to get an item that I can get from a noxious pod on the regular map. If it takes me 30+ attempts to get it like you, than I’ll bite the bullet and just complete the meta once more.

Thanks for clearing this up for me guys!

In game, it says that the item is dropped either in the chest after defeating Mordremoth, or from noxious pods in Dragon’s Stand. If I look at the wiki entry here: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Machined_Hammer_Handle
it states that “Found in Noxious Pods and Mordremoth’s Chest after the successful completion of the meta-event in Dragon’s Stand.”

Given the conflicting information, I would just like to know if it is at all possible to get the item from noxious pods on a regular, non-completed DS map. Thanks!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wander.5780

I agree, this has to go, it’s annoying. So what if I joined too many parties? How does that hurt the game? -facepalm-

If I were to hazard a guess, I’d say that the reason for this message / limitation is to prevent trolls from going into LFG and just joining and leaving every party they see, possibly insulting the party before leaving as well. Particularly groups of trolls who could potentially join en masse and kick the actual party, even though that would be harder to accomplish nowadays (would have been more of an issue back when you only needed 2 votes to kick). Or even people who just join a party, wait until it fills, then leave, which would cause the group to relist in LFG to fill again.

That said, I’m always in favor of not screwing over legit players in an attempt to stop trolls, so I don’t think this is the best method to prevent potential abuse. I’d gladly see it changed.

People don’t quit MMO’s out of frustration because of trolls or even necessarily a bad community, they leave games because they feel they either a) aren’t getting their money’s worth or b) are fed up with the game due to personal grievances… albeit justified or not. People are quitting this game primarily due to the latter reasoning.

If Anet had a clue about how to please their player base they would’ve done it by now. Having a system in place that prevents you from switching groups more than once quickly in succession due to the existential threat of trolls is ridiculous, and just one of the many inherent problems that have gone completely unaddressed in this game… the map timers, the resets, the megaserver and getting locked out of maps, game client performance issues, class imbalance, the shameless persistent gem store offerings… the list goes on and on.

What are you primarily playing? PVP/WVW/PVE and what weapons do you primarily swap out? I find revenant/herald overall very weak in PVP/VWV post nerfs, hammer especially. Hammer is still viable for PVE metas and the like where all you need to do is sit back and auto attack while working in a Hammer 2. The healing nerf to Glint shield has pretty much made shield completely useless for me, combined with the fact that sword 1 and 3 were nerfed hard so your dps with sword/shield is completely gutted. The annoying thing, is that Glint is still almost entirely a mandatory legend to have slotted, for the party buffs and perma swiftness. The only other legends worth using are Dwarf/Shiro, and even Shiro needs work to be viable.

the function gyro is always out once you have it unlocked through the Scrapper specialization. I think he’s asking whether or not he can tell when he has used it to revive someone… I have that problem as well. You are supposed to target them and press F while they’re in a downed state, and the function gyro will resurrect them… that becomes problematic during meta events or raid when there’s too many things happening on screen.
