Queues better...community just as bad as ever

I honestly wouldn’t mind if the toxic community was limited to Heart of the Mists. Unfortunately (but consequently), you often get to deal with them at all time during PvP matches.

Someone throws themselves against 4 enemy players and gets downed instantly. Team chat becomes filled with caps since you went to capture a point instead of trying to revive them (and now they’re AFK at base to type angrily).

You fight someone for a good minute, and then your ally finally manages to come and help you. From the moment your opponent dies, you get whispered insults of all colors based on how PvP is supposedly not meant to be about teamwork, and how your life has no value.

You notify someone that being AFK is not an optimal strategy. The answer is nothing short of blame, and questioning your skills as a player, as a human being and as a sentient life form.

The worst I’ve encountered so far was a team of 4 players (in the same guild) who were not only losing on purpose from the very start, but insulting the 5th player on their team restlessly for trying to actually make some points.

I think it’s high time the April 2014 Feature Pack is revised.

Ever since PvP rewards were replaced with PvE rewards, players have been trying to abuse the PvP system to get items with the least amount of effort humanly possible. Now that most players prefer to win over having a good match, it isn’t fun for anyone.

Furthermore, megaservers prevent any sense of community from developing. Since the algorithm is and has been broken from the very start, players are shoved on map copies at absolute random. This allows people who believe in having a sense of anonymity on the Internet to project their lack of self esteem onto others and create an overall deplorable atmosphere.

The solution is extremely simple, but I’m afraid ArenaNet has been going in the exact opposite direction for the last year.

I would also like to add being insulted for telling the team not to go (all 3 of them) to the far point. “shut up, ur trash.” , was the reply I got in team chat. This was in a tournament.
That kind of unintelligent trash talking that makes you stare at your screen in disbelief.
All I could do was whisper him : “You deserve a block, unintelligent trash talker.”, and clicked “block”.
But he will never stop and I am used to pvp and all that goes in there (being a thief is never easy) but the new guy/gal that walks in there hoping for a bit of fun can certainly have the worst experience ever and never come back.
I want fresh pvpers to join because we so need them to add diversity to the game. But this kind of senseless behavior is an assured deterrent to that.
I haven’t related the worst here, worse has happened but what’s the point I still see those baddies playing and chatting in map chat all the time.
Heck no one talks before a tournament for fear of being insulted…or if someone gives a tactic sometimes, you ’ll have one guy who will purposely do the opposite to make the team loose just to say at the end “Yea nice tactics looser…” I mean he must have hated the guy so much to not mind a loss on that game. Such hate.
And we humans are supposed to be the beings with higher intellect.

Courtyard is not Structured PvP

This thread is invalid the teams are not structured. If both teams clash head on what do you expect? It was a choice made by players. It’s a survival mode not kill farming, the thread is invalid. Hope it doesn’t take 2 years for so called decent pvpers to adapt did I forgot to mention the thread is invalid? It’s invalid.

Does being in wvw means I am in a zerg no I am in my squad,player choice.

I disagree, you need to kill farm to score 500/0.
This map in its current form makes for unintelligent play, it feels like one is holding a hammer and is hitting a wall for 10 mins….hardly inspiring.
Those who love it and will play it all day will end up with 0 brain activity for that period of time and that’s a bad thing (not a jk). You know that 0 brain activity leads to early onset of Alzheimer right? We’ll then have a whole generation of ppl who get it that are in their 50s, you picture this.
Okay for more serious input, although that was serious enough.
If the map were to be for 3v3, 2v2 then 1v1 in an elimination process then it would bring back the brains into it.

Agreed I jumped in there once yesterday and logged off soon after. My match wasn’t a total steamroll (275 to 500) we were a squishy group vs a 2 guardian + necro + elem and thief group. We were actually going even till 275 and then it got really messy lol.

I mean what a mess of a map. This map is too small for 10 people stepping on each other’s face, throwing SFX all over the place and blurring the screen, you can’t see what’s going on most of the time because of cluster fighting and the size of the map.

Guardians just stand in the center of the mess and play “I’m tanky come and kill me if you can…”, killed one more than once but the feeling was not rewarding, rather, I thought in my mind at the end of it : “What a horrible map.”

This map is designed for 3v3, 2v2 etc.. not 5v5 like many “spvpers” have said here.
Although I do think it might be a better experience if the number of people were to be cut down.

And correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t a death match based on eliminations? So what are we doing respawning and running back to the fight if we’re killed?

Yea this whole set up is wrong and needs some tweaking.

Steal is blockable/dodgeable. What more do we need to understand in these mechanics? That one can dodge it and block it.

What more do you need to understand about these mechanics? Here’s what:

Steal ignores Aegis because it steals it on priority.

It doesn’t hit through dodge, correct. But you can’t reactively dodge steal. Or predict and dodge it. This is because Steal is so precise that it can be completely reliably poked in the very millisecond your evade frames drop. A good thief’s success rate on steal is easily 95%, not including bugs/weird stuff. That’s why saying ‘oh it’s dodgeable/blockable, so that’s all you need to know (implied get to dodging and blocking it, noobs)’ is very misleading.

If steal is to be dodged or blocked, a Thief has to foolishly lose patience, and waste it. And this is all fine. Thief traits are balanced around Steal hitting 100% of the time, and I think it’s more or less working, minus perhaps being usable when you’re not in LOS of your target.

I by no means called anyone “noob”, you are putting words into my post that are not present.
A steal can be wasted and it does not land 100% of the time due to server lag or bugs. This itself does not make it a magic formula to win. Good for the thief if it actually lands and he actually steals and it does not reset instead putting it under CD with no gain from it, it has happened to many people it is still happening.
Steal being flawed this way I would hardly call it an OP skill that needs nerfing.
If you are going to cap a point alone and you know there is a thief in the enemy group then you should be prepared to at least fight back if you cannot avoid the first hit with steal.
As for guardians, so what if steal goes through ageis, I know basilisk venom doesn’t, it gets blocked, so there you have it, it is not a 100% win for the thief because of that, that would actually be funny if a guardian died because of a steal that ignored Aegis don’t you think. XD
Guardians have enough and more resources to get passed the initial first strike. The argument about Aegis is futile.

Some people are saying combined with Sleight of Hand it’s too powerful……it’s a 1 sec stun… if one can’t last 1 sec then something is wrong. It is not as powerful as the mesmer stun by all means. I think that stun is 3 sec one if I am not mistaken.

Steal does not need a second nerf that is my point here. If a thief invests 30 points in trickery he is sacrificing something more powerful to do so, ie, critical strikes or power.Every class can get passed the initial strike now that is what the first nerf intended and it does work this way. Not to mention the initial strike can be a total miss. Then we are at 50% disadvantage from the start.

Summary of steal when using the current thief build (30 0 10 0 30)

1) 1.244 dmg (usually more)
2) 2 boons stolen (priority on stability)
3) giving these boons to you and nearby allies in a radius of 240
4) grants vigor for 10 seconds
5) grants you and allies in a radius of 360 fury for around 10 sec
6) grants you and allies in a radius of 360 swiftness for around 10 sec (and 1 might stack)
7) heals you for 2.040
8) puts poison on the enemy for 13 seconds
9) dazes the target (which goes through stab because its first priority on boons removed)
10) when using the current backstab build with panic strike it afflicts weakness for 51/4 sec on the enemy
11) recharges all skills of one type (traps, venoms etc)
12) gives you 2 initiative
13) has a 900 range
14) is instacast
15) can even be casted if you cannot even port to the target currently because he is on an obstacle (effects still proc)
16) only has 21 1/2 seconds cooldown
17) ports to the target (instant gapcloser)
18) you get a skill that in most cases counters your enemy for a certain amount of time

Can you not see how this is utterly broken?
To be honest I don’t acually mind having such a thing on thief because thief requires at lot of skill to be played competetively but the problem is that even tho the thief uses a lot of trait points to improve his “steal” ability in order to improve his survivability he still deals a ridiculous amount of dmg by double procs (air-fire, fire-blood)

Solution:
1.) Add counterplay to steal (you can only predict it atm)
2.) Remove some effects of steal – or – nerf double procs but make up for the nerfs by buffing other things on classes (not thief) that rely on these procs to have sustained dmg

I do also think that passive stuff in this game needs an overwork as well (necro fear procs, engi burning, mesmer condi output) and the strength of weaponswitches with geomancy and doom on some classes

as well as relying on autoattack for dmg
mesmer – gs
ranger – shortbow
thief – autoattack
warrior – axe (except for eviscerate)
but this time i really want to discuss “steal”

also dont forget the day “pin down” got an animation – it added so much more skill to duels fighting as or against a warrior

You are possibly new to GW2, steal has been nerfed after release (1st year) it was then doing insane damage and was unblockable. Its crit could go up to 8k and it was instant kills for squishy builds. People came on the forums and cried out loud and it was nerfed as it currently is meaning it cannot land a crit. They compensated with the minor heal you get from it. A 2k heal is by no means great especially in the current condition fests you see out there. (ie, steal from a fear build necro…..that heal you get is pointless unless you as a thief use other mechanics to survive)
Complaining about its damage is futile, because the base is a negligeable 1.2k and it might actually go up to 4k depending on the build. Now should we also nerf 1000 blades from the warrior because it crits like hell and can shred you to pieces? I feel it’s a learning curve issue.
Steal is blockable/dodgeable. What more do we need to understand in these mechanics? That one can dodge it and block it.
I agree with you on certain classes passives needing a rework.

Why I am for blocking the spectate button once in the match is because if it is not, you will still have people pretending they are on the phone, etc… and misusing the feature. Even if they are blocked from joining the winning team they will still leave the loosing team and sit the match out in spectate mode. Hence the need to completely disable the button. If one needs to really leave for genuine reasons the only option they should have is to go back to the lobby I feel. And if you were to leave for actually re-entering HJ on another server then boom a stat debuff would apply, again here what would someone queuing up for a tourney do in this situation, enter it with a stat debuff? lol. I know it sounds rigid but this game needs a serious clean up where pvp is concerned. The more I think of this issue and the more I try to find a solution, I ’m starting to think that it is almost impossible to correct this system unless it is scrapped entirely for a new system and I really understand the dilemna the devs are facing here.

Had a fun experience last night, several times in a row, got autobalanced off of the winning team and we managed to turn it around after I switched.

Tips, mostly like ScaredyCat’s:

1) Remember always not to get caught up into combat in the middle of nowhere. This is a plauge in HJ games, just run away instead of wasting time. Avoid any big fight, unless it’s on a point.
2) Don’t just join automatically: The first time you’re in a server, look at the team comp: It can be as simple as just choosing after the first people join. If one team has an engi and one has a thief, go with the engi. The thing I avoid the most are multiple rangers and multiple thieves. Multiple rangers CAN be good, but it’s risky. Multiple thieves usually means the team is gonna lose. dont’ wait too long or you might get locked out!
3) At the end of the first game, look carefully at the scoreboard and use that info to try in with the best players from the last round. Score can be a little tricky for that, some classes (rangers) get inflated scores.

I’d avoid Single Q though. It’s just as likely to be unbalanced as hotjoin (which is worse, team hoppers or locked 4-5s?), but people are generally more chill and fun-loving.

Multiple thieves usually means the team is gonna lose. dont’ wait too long or you might get locked out!
I don’t want to burst your bubble but I have won matches with multiple thieves in it. Depends who is playing.XD
There is no final say as to who and what will be a winning factor in a HJ, just because it’s so messed up at the moment. I have joined a loosing team (40 to 180 score) and turned the match around. What I am trying to say is anything is possible in a HJ, sometimes you’ll even be part of a really awesome match that ends up 499/500. Sometimes it’s a total disaster but it will be in 80% of the cases because of the current free, unforgiving system in place.
I have even won a few handicapped matches of 4/5 and boy did it feel great. Of course those matches are rare xD.
It’s a harsh environment to start with if you’re new to GW2 and I am sure the new team is already at work on this.
Back to the topic. Just grey out the spectate button to anyone already in a match Anet and problem solved.
Or if that can’t done put a debuff on the player(s) that unbalance a match. Something like minus 50% to all stats.

New PvP Thief: Why Am I Dying Within Seconds?

I wouldn’t recommend S/D for starting out as a thief…that takes a bit more practice to succesfully land attacks and for its management of initiative. Although that build is great of course.
After looking at your build, you need more power than you currently have. Remove the Scholar Rune and try out the Rune of the Ogre (gives you a rock dog for those situations where you’re downed and you need that extra damage to finish your opponent to rally up), you’ll also stack more power and ferocity. 300 ferocity is on the lower side, 450 and above is good.
I would put the extra 2 points you have in the Shadow trait line instead (once you’ve selected your 2 main trait lines) and choose Cloaked in Shadows in there, that can literally save your life when you’re at very low HP making you invisible to just be able to slip away.
Trickery is a good way to spend points, it’s a plus for recharging you’re steal skill faster.
I would recommend a D/P build for starting out as it has more survivability because of Black Powder (blind field), it can ward off finishers, heavy attacks and you can slip away again into stealth from it using heartseeker. It’s more user friendly than S/D.
By all means Shadowstep like someone pointed out above. Real life saver if you are pinned downed by heavy CCers.
And I would definetly have Shadow Refuge on my bar if I was starting out as a thief, that is one extra life save, plus ideal to rez your team mates or stomp your opponent if not too much under condi fields.
Thieves Guild isn’t the best elite skill, because what your enemy will do is kill them first then move on to you and they are easily killed. I found it to work more on a P/P – P/D build but not my favorite. Yea Basilisk Venom is your friend, this is one CC that can put an end to a zerk build very fast if you have the power to back it up.
I personally prefer the Assassin’s Signet over Signet of Shadows, more power on use. You have condition curing with Shadow Step as it is so that’s fine.
Get rid of Blinding Powder if you go D/P, you won’t need another blind, you can use that slot for a better utility.
That’s all I can think of, hope this helped. Have fun playing one of the most fun class in the game!

im not trying to be funny, in fact im trying to help you. if you want to we can fight against each other a bit so i can give you tips to improve your play against eles.

What’s there to improve when you have an RTL landing on your kitten for 10k dmg in the middle of a team fight and out of nowhere? See….it maybe not the ele that needs a nerf as a whole, it’s certain kittening skills like kitten RTL.
I was in a team fight with 50 % HP(and probably some conditions up) when an ele just RTL (ed) me and killed me and a necro (with full HP) …..now idk what this was all about….but if this is how RTL works it needs to be nerfed asap. It is game breaking. That ele was just using RTL all the time and running away from fights. Annoying.
I’m with valentin on this except that only certain aspect of the current meta build should be nerfed….like why have a water attunement that heals you like crazy + a kitten heal on the side???
I have killed plenty of eles not that they’re unkillable but they have god mode atm which means they can kitten reset a fight 2 sometimes 3 times….this is annoying as this is kitten game breaking. And all those shields, let me not even start on that. Something needs to be done here Anet.

I think the solution would be making the match null and void if it was a 4v5 from the start or block ratings if still played. If it happens during a match that started full then the rating of the lesser team stays the same if they loose. Idk if that’s feasible but would be nice to see something in those lines.

I’m not sure what a thief is supposed to be in the OP’s mind? " Too much stealth", isn’t that being a thief’s thing…stealth defines us. We act from the shadows and swallow you when you expect it the least. That’s what a thief is all about. Now are you asking Anet to make of us plain hard hitting warriors that would be always in your face so you can see them better? That we are not and the way thief is being played at the moment is how it should be. Just watch your back, don’t falter and you’ll survive.
And to the guy talking about thieves needing no skills, mesmer is a remote control class, nothing more, I find it funny when people say it needs skills. It’s fun to play, I have one but I still prefer thief, because it stands apart if you play it well. What a thief will do is it will expose your play flaws, that’s why people hate this class so much. If you loose to a thief in seconds, you have l2p issues, if you loose to a thief after 5 mins of intense dueling then you are good. Simple as that.
They nerfed black powder, meaning we are liable to take more damage when in it, the chances of blinding have been reduced. I now get interrupted, knocked off and feared from it.
What I find curious is why nobody complains about the ele going mist form and stomping someone with no problems or a guardian using, aegis/shields/fields/buffs to stomp with no problems. Why is Anet constantly nerfing thief and letting other classes with certain aberrations off the hook is what disconcerts me the most.

Would love 8v8 back, it was indeed much more fun, I can sadly say I miss the days fighting those matches. Zerg? Who says there are none in a 5v5 match? A cluster of players trailing the map is still a zerg, and it happens in this game mode as well and no one can say they haven’t been "zerged"even in a 5v5 match. Reducing the number of players was not a solution to the problem, the game mode is the problem, this is a conquest mode and it’s bound to be zergy at some point of the match because all we care about is to cap and hold the points to win, be it 5v5 or 8v8.
I would like to add off topic : Anet please bring Raid on the Capricorn back. I loved that map. I mean underwarer fights were fun why get rid of that?
I essentially pvp and the only time I would actually fight underwater in the game is on that map…now it’s gone.

Most teams are starting to run a comp along the lines of 2 Elementalists, 1 Engineer, 1 Warrior, and 1 random. The random class is generally a Warrior, Engineer, Necromancer, or Thief. In terms or OPness ATM, I’d say Elementalist and Engineers are both bigger problems than Thieves.

I know that, but that’s not the point. Ele is forced to play d/d, because s/d or s/f has no sustain and a thief will eat the ele alive if he plays anything else than d/d or staff bunker.

Hmm i’m not sure you know what you’re talking about here. Elem have no sustain?? That’s a joke right? Shield after shield and boom water attunement, it’s like having to kill an elem, twice, thrice. They reset the fight at will. I seriously do not see your point considering the number of nerfs thief got the past two years. Thieves are in a very weak position right now. You have to really use all of your wits to stay alive as a thief in this meta. You do know that having a zerk build means you will also die pretty fast too so what’s the problem here?

Just like the December patch witch promised “toning down” of the necros conditions and didn’t happen like it should have. Don’t read patches and come to conclusions before it’s gone live, there’s always some last minute changes. Test the changes then come back and prove your point.

The Dhuumfire change is so massive that it doesn’t even need testing to comprehend. I’ll inform you since you like finding excuses for your laziness; Dhuumfire will be changed so that only Life Blast (Death shroud autoattack) will be inflicting burning and not crits in general.

If you still think this is not a massive, legendary, greataxe of doom on every necromancer’s head, I’m done.

Again you’re not reading well, or pretending to ignore the rest of my post. Don’t speculate before hand that this will be the end of the necro. If you think so then you are sugggesting this, that Necros relied on Dhuumfire solely which is ignorant of the class at the least.

There was no Dhuumfire at launch and necros were a threat to be recknoned with then too . Dhuumfire came into the scene much later if you must know. So as much as you are focusing on this being the reason why the necro will die an untimely death I think that you are jumping the gun here. I’m not really seeing what your point is here.

I reiterate, don’t go speculating before the patch goes live and you test as or against necros. I hope you get it this time. That was my only point to you.

As for your pointing fingers at people’s character, I read more relevant things on the net which enriches my life, i’m not glued to GW2 blogs so if that’s your thing well so be it but don’t go calling people lazy just because they don’t read about games on the net all the time. You don’t know me and I don’t pretend to know you so let’s leave it at this please.

I don’t mind being able to survive a bit but to the point of being tanky with all the plusses they have is a bit too much =D
Also, that tanky pet Summon Flesh Golem knocking down people and doing decent damage is a bit too OP for one class. They can take their distance keep applying conditions and watch that pet bring you down. That pet has stability for 16.5 seconds too. I can understand 5 seconds but 16.5 sec is bit over the top.

I still think GW2 has the best combat any day in an mmo, but this sadly it’s becoming a mess. The zergs in pvp right now are testimony to what it’s come down to in order to win a match.

leaderboard = doesnt matter to anyone, unless your with your little circle of no lifes pretending your kittenes.

rank = enough can be said bout this no value either unless u wanted the cool finisher its only good for.

only thing important is that you enjoy playing, so 4v5 is not fun for everyone, if you have bad connection stop playing, if you continue to ignore that then you deserve your debuff.

hmm i’m not sure about that, don’t they say " practice makes perfect" ? Yes the more you play the more you get good at what ever it is you’re playing, there’s not doubt abt it. That’s with everything in life too. So yes a rank 50 will show more on the battlefield than a new comer rank 1. Sry but that’s true unless someone rank 50 buys another account (for leaderboard purposes) and enters at rank 1 so there’s no way to know with ranks in that case only. But a genuine rank1 that faces a rank 50, yea there’s no doubt who will win the fight there.

Added to that conditions galore which were supposed to be “toned downed” with the December patch but I’m not sure what was done is enough. A bit more, not too much but a bit more is needed.
Oh and mesmers, they’ve become the new nuisance, unkillable for most (the skilled ones), condition spammers ie, confusion spammers. Same facing a mesmer means be prepared for a long fight.
We thieves got our spams nerfed to extremes and more is coming for us looks like, why are other classes left off the hook Anet?
Maybe what we need is some casting time added to some of the necro and mesmer skills too, there seems to be too much free spamming here. I don’t know if it’s doable but it’s just an idea.
Also Spvp is becoming an AOE fight more than what pvp should be like. AOE, AOE, AOE, stand there and AOE the heck out of everybody. Sometimes you can’t even see the ground, so much AOE covers it. xD

I’m not really happy with this change. For one it’s making things difficult for new comers to go up the ranks, it’s going to be very very difficult indeed. A lot of people might even give up all together. Like many said here if you can choose your team then this is broken from the start. Choosing /changing teams should not be there at all in Hot-Joins and even less if such a system is implemented , period. This is what this system will see, the stronger condition damage characters owning the scene, people will join their team, all a necro needs to do is stand at points and smother ppl with what a necro does best. I tested it today and in almost every case the team having one or two necros won. This isn’t good considering the current set up and should be re-thought to make it a fairer environment for everyone to enjoy pvp. It’s not fun when you know you’ll have to wait 200 yrs before you get that awesome finisher. xD

The leaderboard system is right now far too punishing for loosing a match and it should not be like that. Once you go up the ladder meaning you have had some wins you should stabilize there and if you loose because of bad matchmaking or you’re having a bad day at the hands of a premade, then you should not be pulled down the ladder again in this very hostile system. Sure the rating should go down a bit but not like it is going down right now.

This system tells players “we don’t care about all the efforts you made to go up the ladder, now you lost 4 or 10 matches in a certain period of time because of soloing then you need to be down there, you’re worth nothing”.
What happened to all the previous wins and efforts? Vanished in thin air, they don’t exist anymore.
This is put in a harsh way I know but this is what it actually means.

I solo play a lot and managed to get my Champion Shadow title not so long ago that way, it was a lot of hard work but at the same time I totally destroyed my climb into the leaderboard ratings. I was at 74% once and I am now prob at 10% or below, i don’t even check the leaderboard anymore to be honest. THIS does not reflect my abilities in pvp this little percentage I have been reduced to.

This current system is really based on a lot of false positives. And by that I mean X premade wins against a team of 4 or a mismatched team of soloers with new comers who have no clue how a tournament works. The premade gets the win they go up the ladder even more based on this false win and the loosers well they fall down the ladder because of quitters or afk members.
That’s what’s wrong.
This needs to be reworked and offered to players as a fair system not what we have now.

Unfortunately you can’t anymore, the old Hotjoin has been replaced with this one. If the server is full you basically have to queue up as a spectator, wait for the match to end then enter the new one. If not you have to filter through servers and the one with the odd numbers usually have a ready spot but sometimes it gets filled up just as you enter.
Yea, I too preferred the old set up.

Hm… Why they think Eles is Immortal bf and now Ranger got the same title too? I, bunker Eles, can kill a Bunker Ranger. Sure the fight is long, 10 mins but they are not Immortal, same with Eles. By the way, I play Eles, Not Ranger.

You don’t have 10 mins to waste on a 1v1 in a tournament. This itself shows how imbalanced they are atm.

Rangers are OP atm. We have to really outwit ourselves to get passed some of those bunker rangers nowadays. I died of a pet hitting me 4k while in downed state and his master nowhere in sight (lols). I think the pets range of attack should be reduced if anything. If the ranger is not facing his opponent then his pet shouldn’t be after him for miles away from his master.

For those saying having 2 thieves is counterproductive and can make you loose a match it’s pure BS. I have won so many matches with 2 thieves in a group. It’s more intellect over group composition imho. It’s more knowing that capping is essential, fighting on the cap points are prime and not skirmishing in the midst of nowhere which is most of the time what new comers do and by doing so pull the team down with those simple mistakes. I think it’s more this. But of course, when we loose who do we blame ? The most hated profession in Gw2.

That is not fully true , i see people mostly pointing fingers at there opponents being OP builds when they loos.
And if they know its not a OP build , then they point the middle finger to the thief in there party :P

2 thieves is worth nothing, one is fine (Good roaming, downing already focused players, shadow refuge res and so on) but if you bring two vs ANY decent team you’re basically fighting 4vs5…plus the one you take must be really good, otherwise you can drop him for other classes already..

Still disagree 2 is definetly ok. In theory what you’re saying does make sense but in practice 2 thieves in a group is a reality in tpvp and matches can still be won that way.

Which brings us to the eternal debate on solo queues separate from team queues. I would like that but practically it wouldn’t work which is sad because I would love to face solo players more so than teams. Teams are too generic, organized and play with patterns…that is boring when you get the same map over and over. Exclusive solo queuing would bring more interesting matches to the table in tpvp.

Ok shall we also discuss what a pain a bunker necro is with all his conditions and his uber survivability ? Not fun for thieves I can tell you this but we deal with it.
Or shall we discuss how OP the mesmer blow up build is and how difficult it is to get out of that burst damage at times?
Or maybe we can discuss how irritatingly mobile d/d elems are and how some are pretty difficult to kill.
The discussion can go on and on, I mean not to offend you but this is pointless. Every class as of the game balance right now has something good and something bad to offer.
People complained about Mug for thieves and now it’s nerfed so yes we have to find our next best build to stay on top of our game. Who wouldn’t? My personal take on thief is Heartseeker is boring, so yes I prefer a more interesting “mobile” gameplay.
Like someone said in this thread, seeing people constantly complaining about thieves we might as well remove them from the game, I totally agree.
Even in pvp there is so much hatred towards this class, it’s disheartening. If you do well in a match they call you “2,2,2 noob” etc…. even when your build is totally different, without actually understanding the class.
My advice is create a thief, play it for a while, understand the class and you probably won’t be thinking that this or that should be removed or altered.

Totally disagree with the OP. The purpose of stealth is to disappear so that your opponent has no idea where you are for a few seconds. Keeping the thief targeted while in stealth simply destroys the purpose of this whole mechanic. Playing a thief is all about surprise and popping out of nowhere and doing what he’s best at doing. That’s where the fun is and it should stay as it is.
Squishy or not squishy? Well yes the thief is in a way VERY squishy….only if things go wrong and he gets caught so it’s a yes and a no for those questions :P

Honestly RTL is OP on orb running, but I don’t think they are the best orb runners… Rangers by far are the best specially with the greatsword, Signet of the hunt 25% speed, quickness for 2 seconds grab the orb 15 sec cd, dodge all day… Impossible to kill.. Had games where I capped the orb over 10 times lol

MF and RTL combined with Signet of Air (+25% run speed) —→ excellent contender at running the orb. =D
To refocus on the thread it’s not about which professions are the best at running it but rather why while using evasive skills certain professions clearly drop the orb or are slowed down while MF and RTL aren’t affected.
Was this intended or is that a flaw that needs looking into?

There are really only 2 viable spots with which to use RTL as an ele carrying the orb. Use immobilizes at these spots. An ele who is immobilized and in RTL is an easy kill.

It is really that simple.

That is incredibly not true. There are many places to RTL on this map, and considering that an ele running the orb probably has cleansing fire it becomes twice as hard to stop.

And milo, mistform is a problem because it negates the move speed debuff from the orb. In conjunction with RTL and even a move speed signet (I haven’t seen many eles use this yet, thank god) designated orb carrying eles are gods on this map.

I used Mist Form right before the stairs then RTL and I couldn’t be stopped…right from the stairs. It was an effortless score.Two players were following me and would have seen stars at that point, so yeah RTL + Mist Form is a problem that should be addressed guys.
Although it felt like fun at this point being an elem, it also didn’t feel quite right doing that.

So I wanted to be sure before I posted this. I took my elementalist to Spirit Watch and used Mist Form with the orb and I did not drop the orb. So yeah RTL and Mist Form are a real pain right now in that map.

That would need team coordination and not easy to always time correctly. Again RTL is fast and is a burst type skill, I’m not sure you can stop it in its course, as an elem I have never been stopped by a player while using RTL, the only thing that canceled it were real world obstacles which are the only RTL stoppers.

you have no idea what this thread is even about.

Someone complaining that the Elementalist has a movement skill, and the Thief has none.

rtl is the only movement skill to not be affected by the orb slow

  • The Thief has Heartseeker, Withdraw, and Roll for Initiative, that are all movement skills, just like Ride the Lightning. Next to that the Thief has a ton of snare skills, including casting caltrops on dodge roll.
  • The Warrior has movement skills on greatsword and sword, and AoE weakness on warhorn. Next to that the Warrior has AoE fear, launch, and invulnerability utilities. Plus various condition removal traits like “movement skills break immobilize”.
  • The Ranger has movement skills in greatsword and sword. Invulnerability from “Protect Me” and Signet of Stone, or various snare trap skills. You have condition removal from Signet of Renewal, Healing Spring, and traits, plus a ton of regeneration and protection on dodge roll. And finally AoE fear, protection, regeneration, or condition removal from pets.

The point is all the movement skills you list are effected by the orb’s slow. Its seems to about halve the effectiveness of the movement skills of other classes. What I (we?) don’t understand is that if rtl is not a teleport then why is it uneffected by the orb’s slow?

Obviously they are not “all movement skills, just like Ride the Lightning”, rtl has some special kittening OP status that sets it apart from all other movement skills.

BTW I think the idea of taking away all 1-5 skills on the orb carrier is one of the stupidest ideas I have ever heard.

I think you misread some of the posts here including mine. The suggestion is not to remove all the skills (although it started with that suggestion)but rather give you a set of new 1-5 skills witch are Orb specific. I don’t think there is anything stupid in that personally, the game is designed to pick up objects in the world and have bundles of skills unlock as a result. This idea is just an extension of that.
You clearly stated how less effective the rest of the movement skills are compared to RTL, this is the very reason why all carriers should probably have even opportunities where the orb is concerned. We don’t need a d/d elem + a 100% successful orb carrier or a bunker warrior running the all infamous orb and never dropping it.
Using the orb specific skills in a clever way while supported by your team so you can pull through is the real aim here. In other words putting back team effort into this map.
I don’t have anything against elementalists, my main character is an elementalist, although I enjoy playing thief in pvp more.

I think that replacing/removing the orb carrier’s abilities is going way too far. Less emphasis on abilities means more emphasis on stats. That decision would make beefy, soldier amulet wearing warriors who are traited in defense and tactics to be the best choice as the orb runner. Furthermore, a loss of abilities in addition to the slow buff would also mean that your team is down one man for however long it takes to run the orb (or fail) – meaning that getting the orb to the destination would be much, much too risky and difficult to coordinate to be worth the effort of 15-30 points. This would probably result in teams ignoring the concept of actually running the orb, and rather focus on holding points and capitalizing on the team unbalance when their opponents remove one of their members to try to run it.

If you fight a decent and coordinated team, they’re probably going to end up capping the orb if they get it, regardless of what class is running the orb. The key to stopping any orb runner is to not let them pick up the orb in the first place. The battle for the orb (usually) ends once it’s been picked up.

I personally don’t think Ride the Lightning is a huge issue, but I can see why people would be complaining. Rather than remove the abilities of orb runners, just make RTL affected by cripple/chill/fear/ and lower the cooldown.

I can see this being a problem now that you pointed it out. Bunker builds becoming the first choice to carry the orb if skills were to be removed.
The solution then could be (if removing skills) to “lower/alter” the carrier’s stats as in being in a “state” while carrying the orb. So anyone who would then become a carrier would get the same stats with exclusive orb abilities from 1-5. Giving a bundle of skills while carrying the orb would then put back the emphasis on skills rather than stats IF the stats would be altered that is and this would even out carriers. I have no idea how easy/complicated this would be to translate into the game though.
Wishful thinking.
But right now the map is not as enjoyable as it should be with all these imbalances.

Ride the lighitng isnt a teleport, and makes eles pretty much the best orb runners.

You can use some ranger abilties, some warrior abiltiies to run the orb faster as well.

While riding the lightning you pretty much are invulnerable since no one can catch up with you or CC you even…I would call that an OP skill considering the strategies involved in Spirit Watch.
If I use my skill 5 as you suggested (infiltrator’s arrow) , I can still bee CC’d if someone’s right there where I land and I am not invulnerable to attacks (only for 0.5 sec , time of teleporting ) . Besides if I use skill 5 I drop the orb which is my main concern. If I have to put up with OP ride the lightning then let me use my skill 5 as well while being the carrier. Fair and square.
And yes I would be for no use of skills 1-5 too if you are a carrier. Let your group support you.

Hello,

I was recently in Spirit Watch in a tournament when I saw an elementalist use " Ride the Lightning" with the orb evading every attack and speed landing on the control point.
I’m a thief and if I use “Infiltrator’s Arrow” I drop the orb.
Something needs to be done about that as that’s giving elems and unfair advantage over other classes that have similar evasive skills but can’t use them if they carry the orb.
I have no idea if it was intended to work that way or if it was a bug.

Hello again,

I just wanted to update this thread after trying Kirito’s suggestions for fixing these crashes.
1/ The UAC, I set it to " Never notify me".

2/ DEP (Data Exception Prevention) : I selected the second option. I could not add the GW2 app file to the exception though.

3/ Did a /chkdsk like said.

Also what I did :

4/ Lastly I re-did a clean install of my video card driver, but this time I installed the beta version of 310.70. I read somewhere a dev saying that if your card was messing up installing the beta version would be better.

5/ I ran a registry cleaner.

I am glad to say that I have now been playing 5 days without any crashes !! I’m even getting higher FPS than before from 45 I jumped to 50-60 depending on the zones.

Hi,
I’m also getting this problem. Yesterday i crashed 5 times or more I think, can’t count anymore…. then i gave up switched off the computer and went to bed.
I started getting this problem after the Wintersday patch on Dec 17th. Prior to that i had never crashed once.
I used to get around this problem by doing a manual uninstall/install of my video card driver (nvidia GT 545). So when I would freshly install the driver I could play for a couple days crash free, them boom it would occur again. Yesterday I tried that again but this time it’s still crashing no matter how many times I re-install the driver. I have the latest nvidia driver 310.70 .
When this problem happens, it’s random in the game , the computer freezes I can’t CTRL+ALT+DEL out of this, I have to switch off the main power of my comp.
This is a nightmare, i’m in contact with Dell support as well they’re trying some stuff on my nividia settings for now but this didn’t work. I’m thinking it is GW2 related though as i am able to play other games crash free.
I have attached the error code windows is giving me in a self diagnostic each time i reboot after a crash maybe that can help.

I’m having the same problem with my Sylvari not showing the glow effect inside the Makeoverkit. I was hoping for a fix in the new patch but it’s still not working.
There were a few posts in the forum about it but i can’t find them now with a reply from Anet saying they would look into it. So hopefully we get a fix soon.
