Anyone have a good spvp build for Mesmer?

I play an Ele and a friend is going to join me on his Mesmer but hasn’t played in a long time and needs some tips on a good current build for a mesmer that is going to work with an Ele.

Apparently my Ele tips aren’t helpful.

He wants a bunker build or at least good survivability.

Anyway… any builds? Anytime I look for builds I can not find anything current.

More stats and keep a record of them after games.
Stats I want to see:
DPS graph throughout game. Could be broken up in to damage types.
Healed self/Healed team
Cured Self/Cured team.
Kills/Deaths
If you could see it relative to other players that would be even better but I would settle for my own stats.

I like the concept of it but it is much too powerful in the current form. I find it harder to finish players in down state than to beat them in the first place. If i’m lucky enough to down two players I may as well just run away. I can’t finish them without being killed.

What ever you are doing for match making it is a complete fail. It always has been bad and the new influx of players just highlights it.

You should admit it and drop it until you come up with something better.

In the mean time ranks will make for much better games.

Makes me wonder. I don’t feel like I have ever seen an obvious hack in this game. I don’t think I can say that about any other game I have played and I have played a lot.

Doesn’t mean they aren’t there though I guess.

I think the signet heal is really weak now but it’s getting unnerfed on the 15th. Still ER condition removal is hard to beat.

There is a pretty good build on near the top of this forum for WvW that adapts nicely to sPvP as well but I always end up going back to 10 30 0 10 20 either fresh air or tempest defence.

I don’t find I can survive at all without the soldiers amulet. Put a 5% crit damage gem on it.

I really don’t think there is a viable ele build at the moment. You can have some fun killing newbs really fast or bursting people already in combat but once you run in to a skilled player in any other class you’re going to get trashed.

You’re right the Ele class isn’t good at taking Mesmers on one to one and they are an incredibly frustrating class to fight. I hope Anet one day tones down the amount of invis in the game. They usually have bad mobility – run away, wait for them to engage someone else and whack them. Roll one and play a few games to get a better understanding of how to identify the real one. Don’t let the phantasms live, they do too much damage.

If a good thief catches you first you will most likely die. They love Ele and will target you first every time. If you are setup right and you see them first or manage to survive their initial burst you have a good chance to kill them. Don’t run, they are faster than you. Keep attacking when they turn invis – they still take damage.

Ele play style is great fun but can be really frustrating as we die so easy. Post your build, maybe someone can point out some improvements. It’s not a good 1v1 class so don’t bang your head against the wall trying to 1v1 everyone. Pick your battles, you’ll have more fun.

Any word on fixing 4v5?

I had a 3 vs 5 then a 4 vs 5 both on Skyhammer which I HATE.

Having same problem. I’ve tested out of game and there is no problem with the right button.

Now that I realise what is happening I think it has been going on a long time but seems to be worse now than ever.

Wondering if it is to do with the dual monitor setup. Occasionally it randomly throws me out of game to the other monitor.

Although they can kill very fast I think sometimes lag is the reason it seems like instant death.

A lag meter in game would be very helpful.

SoloQ is meant to be a step up from hot join.

Make players earn at least rank 10 before they are allowed to SoloQ. Probably higher for TeamQ.

Don’t mix players with more than 20 rank difference at all or have a sliding scale that increases range as rank goes up.

I would rather wait longer for a good game than have every second game a complete waste of everyones time.

Your system isn’t working! Stop using it and just go off ranks, it will be much more accurate than what you do now.

Please consider not letting pet ai go after downed players.

As an elementalist I can often mist form out of the battle and if lucky find a spot players can’t see me.

Pet AI on the other hand can’t be fooled. The computer always knows where you are even if the player does not.

Part of the problem with Ele is that they just get focussed more as easy kills.

Ele can do huge damage but they are hard to keep alive. I don’t think their defences compare with the invis and pet spam of thieves/mesmers.

Necros and Warriors can have good damage and defence at the same time and most games are dominated by these classes.

It’s really annoying seeing other classes stand still while dishing out massive damage and seemingly take hardly any in return even from glassy ele builds.

The game needs a massive player base for esport to have a chance to work.

Most viewers are players that want to see how the pros play and need to be players to understand what they are doing.

To have a massive player base the entry game – hot join has to be fun and FREE.

If they made hot join entirely free a percentage would go on to pay for competition and pve.

Why inflict the worst PvP map on new players in HoT join. The map is such a troll fest it would make people quit PvP entirely.

If it isn’t good enough for Team play it shouldn’t be forced on anyone else until it is fixed.

It’s biased to certain classes. The Cannon is much too powerful and the cannon room is a necromancer’s wet dream.

Just remove it entirely until you have fixed it.

From a PvE art point of view the map is very creative and beautifully designed. From a PvP point of view it sucks hairy…

There’s no hope for PvP. They obviously place very little importance based on how slow they update it and how terrible class balance is. It’s fundamentally flawed, over complicated, too much invis and pets. Pity as I think it could be really good but the expansion will be more PvE crap with some token PvP or ill thought out garbage like Skyhammer.

Double the cast time on the elite pets so they aren’t spamming the field with so much AI.

Take away some of their movement so they can’t run away so well.

Of course they have way too much health and armor.

HoT join not encouraging new sPvP players

I’ve been playing lots of HoT join this weekend and think it’s in a terrible state.

Where as it was always a zergy chaotic experience it’s now often a gank fest.

The experienced players quickly see who the other experienced players are and team up. We’re also getting guild teams and maybe by circumstance certain OP class teams.

It’s not an experience that is going to encourage new players to participate in sPvP.

Attunement weapon swap is nice and I’d hate to lose it but other classes weapon swaps let them go from short range to long range.

We should be able to pull out our staff when needed and go back to dagger or sceptre for closer combat.

It’s annoying seeing other classes that seem to be both tough and high damage.

Still love playing the Ele but it’s intense to make it work.

Sometimes teams are massively off balance and suck to play in.

Lots play sPvP while they wait for tornaments so might have the “Go now” button sitting on their screen.

Players test builds in sPvP ie Try something doesn’t work so leave and re-adjust the build.

PvE players give it a go decide getting smashed isn’t fun and go back to PvE.

Real life happens.

Doesn’t happen often. I much prefer players to leave as opposed to the ones that just stand in the base blocking anyone else from evening out the teams.

Agree with OP. I like to play the game to win but sometimes I get frustrated being one of the few actually playing the game objective and join in the kill fest for my personal score.

Have to agree OP – dealing spam illusions/pets/stealth isn’t fun. Tried hard to give this game a go and had some fun but not sure I can take how anoying and unfun it is dealing with these screwy mechanics. Think I hear BlackOps calling.

I gave up on Tournaments as always seemed to be a player afk or leave. Waste of time cueing for a game you have no chance winning 4vs5.

Would also like to know why Ele teleport is kittened when other classes teleports are not. Sometimes it will cross a ledge sometimes it won’t. Seems to have a very narrow vertical range.

Worst sPvP team I played against was 4 mesmers and 4 thieves. I spent most of the game moa’d. I had a game against mostly glass cannon warriors earlier today – pretty nasty but they die easy. I’ve seen almost all theif teams regularly.

I see it so much it seems the system has a preference for putting the same classes on a team rather than mixing them up.

The gear is cosmetic so that all players are on even standing.

You can’t take it to the PvE world (yet).

Gear is configured mostly using runes and sigils which are free on the vendors in the mists.

OP – great ideas! I particularly like "Make 4 players and 4 ticks the absolute max. So 8 v 4 means neither team is capping. " as i think it would help (not fix) the zerging issues in sPvP.

Yes it is too small.

It could become an esport if:

sPvP game should be completely free the same as LoL. Make money on the micro transactions. Some will try the free sPvP and go on to buy the PvE. Sponsors etc will only come if the numbers of players is huge.

Servers are not US only. Asians are big players in Esport. They cant compete with at best a 200 ping.

Other ideas:
Allow betting gems – real sport is largely about gambling. Buy back gems for real money.

Put numbers on our backs. What sport doesn’t have numbers on the players? I don’t like the name tags over everyone’s heads so this is a bit of a personal wish I guess – get rid of name tags and use numbers tied to scoreboard.

Put voice comms in game. PuGs don’t all have the resources to take up Voice comms.

Allow spectating including listening to voice comms.

Allow spectators to look at player stats. Wins, builds etc.

Allow commentators with some incentive in game. Most of these guys will have their own channels but it could be brought in game or an official Anet website and tied in with whatever advertising revenue the commentators getting their money from (google?). Do a deal with Twitch to make it accessible in game.

1. Partially agree but the fun aspect is enough purpose for me.
-Better matching and ladders would improve it.
-Scoring is not right. Too much personal value on kills in 8vs8 means people hardly try to play the objectives.
-Games have to be balanced. Might not happen so much if you stopped pulling tournament players out of 8v8s mid game.
2. Balance – definately some issues.
3. I like the downstate but yes it could be toned back.

Targeting issues

I have found targetting really frustrating in this game. I always seem to lose my target. Pets always get targetted first because they are usually closest.

Still working it out but this works best for me:
Changed options so tab targets nearest instead of next enemy.
Auto target has to be off.
Promote target should be off.

This setup has been working pretty well but I still seem to drop traget reguarly and have to click to get past pets.

Thief stealth drops target. I can’t work out why other players also seem to drop target sometimes. I have be really careful not to tab while madly bashing away at keys in combat. I use right mouse almost constantly so maybe I am acccidently clicking.

Don’t forget thieves can also leap small building with a single bound thanks to their bow!

I have been wondering why they can travel vertically with their port skill but Elementalist teleport can’t.

The best counter you could get has 3 thieves in it Coffeebot? Trying to deny 8vs8 is not full of thieves makes you look a little silly. :-)

In certain other PvP games:

Removing the name from above your head alone is a character upgrade option.

It’s also an option to see the name tag from greater range.

Even removing the name tag is a powerful form of stealth. Full invisibility as well as no name tag is over the top.

Firstly I want to say I am really enjoying sPvP. There are issues but overall great fun (if you play the meta).

Before the game was even released I looked at the Stealth classes as I dislike full invisibility in games. I don’t have the exact wording but I noted it said there would only be very limited short duration invisibility. Not ideal but OK I can live with short duration invisibility and went ahead and followed /bought the game.

Now that we are playing I feel mislead. Thieves are almost permanently invisibile and not as advertised. I realise part of this is a bug but overall even without the bug I think they have too much invisibility. It’s being abused and is taking a long time to be fixed.

I can see the damage numbers and hear thief attack noise well before they appear on the screen. They appear briefly and then vanish again long before I can kill them. Yes I know I can still kill them when they are invisible – it’s just a crappy badly working mechanic that needs to be fixed – quickly.

Note I am playing a support Ele. If I wasn’t I would be dead well before they appear on my screen. I think bunker/support builds are largely a consequence of the stealth/massive burst of thieves. I don’t like but can deal with the burst damage alone. Burst damage combined with the broken stealth mechanic is spoiling the game.

I have a bit of radical fix idea.

Firstly get rid of the name tags over enemy heads. Being able to spot players should part of the skill. You can’t take advantage of the terrain to ambush or get away when you have a big red bullseye above your head.

Give thieves a predator style partial invisibility/camouflage. The more they move the easier it is to see them but they will be much harder to see than other players.
