Well yeah, the name could be “Dragon Knight”. The dragon part actually feels a bit… “uh?”

Dragon Knight sounds like a knight that serves a dragon, Dragon Hunter sounds exactly the opposite, and well … they ARE hunting a dragon and story-wise all the Dragon Hunters killed 1 Elder Dragon, so they deserve such title.

How about Dragonbane?

Oooooo, now that one would have been cool, and likely to be less assailed by people whinning “but we’re all technically dragon hunters!”.

That said I think what we’re misunderstanding here is the difference between someone who kills dragons, and someone who specializes in it. Its kinda like comparing the baked goods in your local grocery store to the contents of a patisserie.

At least it’s not another instance of abusing “mancer”. Does anyone involved in fantasy even know what the word means..

It come from the greek manteía which mean divination. A mancer is a practitioner of a specific type of divination.

Exactly. So what do the Pyromancer, Hydromancer, Aeromancer, Geomancer, Necromancer and Chronomancer in GW2 have anything to do with prediciting the future?

It’s just a cheesy word that sounds cool and keeps being misused in fantasy settings.

Ok to be fair, Chronomancer. Time magic. I’m pretty sure one could use this to learn about the future correct? Also:

div·i·na·tion
?div??n?SH(?)n/
noun
noun: divination; plural noun: divinations
the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means.

Or the unknown.

To be fair there’s plenty which qualifies as the unknown, and I’m sure setting things on fire could reveal some of these things.

Personally I am 100% glad we didn’t get Paragons. I didn’t like the name to begin with, the Guardian is already supposedly a composite of Paragon and Monk, and from what little I know about Paragon, Guardian with a Longbow ain’t quite it. That said I can’t deny the name “Dragonhunter” is a little silly/on the nose. The skills are passable though and frankly I like Traps.

That said really pooor choice in armor far as I am concerned, though I understand why, and I’m guessing that gauntlet is the Elite Spec armor item, which is kinda disappointing. I mean I’m sure it’s really cool for some people its just not my thing. Was never fond of “lopsided glove sets”.

I actually figured this one out. Bleeding is an Oil Leak. Poison is tainted oil. Confusion is a bug in the programming. For Chill ya’ll better get out some Anti-Freeze. I am not sure how to justify Torment, but it’s possible that some very cruel Asura taught/programmed Turrets to feeeeeeel.

Ah and Daze/Interrupt similar to Confusion could be an internal bug resulting in a systems delay/slowness.

First and foremost I’m going to say I liked Tybalt, he amused me. Granted I do like Forgal more, he went out like a kitten (but my opinion is also somewhat biased due to the fact Forgal was my first for that part of the story.). Sierene though, her death was about as emotional as a brick. That said I like Rox and Braham. For those that speak against Braham, I say you might be looking at it from the wrong angle for his relationship to Eir. What he sees first isn’t Eir the legend, what sees is “Eir the mom who was never there, even when dad died.”. Since he was born he hasn’t really seen/met her, he’s heard of her sure, but he doesn’t really no how to feel about her as a person. As the story progresses this changes. The reason there’s not much emotion to start is because they’re both being awkward about it. As for the Braham Smash. As far as I know prior to Frost & Fire he basically stayed in his village. He’s inexperienced, and more than a few Norn are known to have followed the “smash first ask questions after” train of thought in their younger days. He’s learning though.

That said I do understand the Kasmeer = Barbie train of thought and I admit I can’t see her as much more than eyecandy. From what I do know/have seen of her relationship with Jory it does seem a bit inappropriately timed in most cases. That said I actually like Majory. Also following the Snaff Forumla, and considering that Majory got the Greatsword possessed by her sister, I think there’s at least a 50% chance of Kasmeer dying.

I love Taimi and Cannach, and that is all I feel the need to say on the matter.

Now that said I wouldn’t mind if Destiny’s Edge Jr disbanded/split up/went their separate ways after HoT. Have them take a more background role like Trehearne the Destiny’s Edge Classic. Like say when we eventually go for Jormag we’re trying to find a Champion and bump into Braham who’s also tracking it. Or we need information regarding leylines and know just the Asura to ask.

In the mean time we gather new companions/allies to face the different threats which have some how personally effected them giving them the appropriate drive to face it. Of course we don’t want a “1 person of each race and class, rinse and repeat” group, that would be borring; but it would be interesting to see different teams and relationships as we move forward with LS Chapters and Expansions in the future.

(that noted, I see the LS as kinda like the Prologue to the Expansions. Build towards/hinting at whats to come and in generally keeping us tided over till it happens/is announced.).

So... What's your shout radio tuned to?

Honestly yesterday I was playing on my Norn Necromancer for Teq, and I kept hearing “Praise the Spirits” and “That’s a fine turret!” so I think I had a Norn Engineer running around in my head. I seem to keep getting shouts from the same race but the wrong class, as when I was on my Asuran Ranger the other day I kept hearing what I think was an Asura Warrior.

I like the concept, but I, like most people probably would, have a problem with the idea of losing control of your character. Frankly nobody wants to lose control of their character (at least for more than a few seconds. I.E Fear or Taunt.). An alternative would be to either A) run it a bit like the Beta Event where you were corrupted by Kralkatorik (causes lets be honest that was awesome.) OR Only NPC’s get corrupted (turn it into a phase before the boss instead perhaps.) and you’re forced to put them down.

Wolfe.9850

The odds of Rytlocke becoming the Khan-Ur are, as far as I know, 0. Its a hereditary position first and foremost, you have to be of a particular bloodline, the known members with confirmed claim to this bloodline are the Imperators of the Legions. Secondly while its true Rytlocke is a hero, the one to lay claim to the title of the Khan-Ur has to do something of significance to the Charr people while wielding/holding the Claw of the Khan-Ur. The type of thing which would go down in Charr History, like the Flame Legion Imperator who breached Ascalon City (admittedly dying in the process, but had things gone better it would have fit the bill.).

Honestly I think a good idea would be if Guild Halls came in different sizes, with upgrades becoming available at the same time (or at least around the same time.) as needing to upgrade your guild licence. That way the smaller guilds could still get a hall, but the larger ones would still be able to benefit from having more members as well.

What they’re saying is the gear is going to be any stronger/high stats. What is likely to happen, as Electro mentioned, is new stat combinations, and most of all new gear skins (because Fashion Wars.).

I actually like the idea of incorporating the Glider into the back part, making masteries part of the experience (I tried to do the same with the bark encrusted heart.). Also I’ve noticed people keep mentioning poison, but we’re also getting a new Condition in the expansion! What if as you fight him he secrets some kinda sap which causes Slow?

I expect an end-game boss to use pretty much every condition in the book as part of his repertoire. I mentioned poison because it’s something that would be plausible to be in the air. But certainly slows and roots on the ground. Maybe not burning. Plants don’t do burning…

Acid? Acid burns. Or possibly some sort of fluid which ignites on contact with the air. I will agree though that a bunch of conditions are likely to occur and that Burn is admittedly the least likely (although possible.). We’ll no doubt definitely see Poison, Torment, Slow, Immobilize, Blind, and Bleed. Confusions a little further down the line but possible.

I do agree with at least part of what was said here. I like the idea of the Portals and the climbing up the side of Mordremoth and fighting on its body. (Admittedly not so much the magic organ bit but that’s partially do to other things. The two things I felt the Zhaitan fight could have used was…well, those of you who’ve played Monster Hunter 3 will get this. During the Jhen Mohran fight, there were parts where it would come along side the ship, and you could jump onto its back and attack it by targeting “weak points”. That would have been an awesome aspect. Another thing which would have improved it, as a lot of people have suggested, is that when he fell we should have gone down after him to “finish the job”, which could have been a fight where he’s thrashing at you with tooth and claw/the occasional Risen while you attack its feat and at times attack its head.

For Mordremoth what I think would be a neat idea is that towards the end you could fight him from the front (as stated above and suggested by Shade) with claw and poison breath etc, but when you win that phase he’s not actually DEAD. Instead you have to travel inside Mordremoth through his maw and seek out his HEART where you have to fight tendrils, peel back layers of bark and such protecting his heart, and ultimately stab/damage it.

Revenant Utilities Suggestion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Wolfe.9850

Wolfe.9850

Wasn’t it confirmed at some point that you DON’T get to change anything regarding the legends skills? The arrows are only their to change the order of the utilities, each legend gets 1 heal skill, 3 utilities and 1 elite, and you are locked into those

I’m not disagreeing, I think that some neutral skills wouldn’t hurt if their is one skill on a legend you don’t like but I think that arena-net have already kind of decided and locked in this idea of having a legend and having each legend have 5 skills and not being able to change those skills, but who know’s maybe they’re are more “neutral” skills we haven’t heard about yet?

The last I heard all they have confirmed was that they had not actually decided where they were going to go with this as of yet.

Revenant Utilities Suggestion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Wolfe.9850

Wolfe.9850

Alright I understand there have been a lot of threads about this. Discussing whether or not they should be locked to a legend, or a small pool per legend, etc. Well I had a thought on that, partially based on what some other people have been saying about Elementalists and Glyphs (And my apologies if someone else already mentioned something like this.).

Now of the suggestions I’ve seen for the skills the best idea does seem to be a small pool of skills per legend, so that there’s at least a little customization to it other than picking your legend and weapon. We’ll ignore heals and Elites for the moment and just focus on Utilities. Now lets “assume” for the sake of an example that there’s 4-5 Legends to pick from (same as the number of trait paths.), and lets say each one has a pool of 4-5 unique utilities. Now a way we could pad that is with a series of “neutral” skills, which can come in one of two forms. One is something similar to Glyphs where it has a slightly different effect based on your Legend. Like say it causes a boon, Resistance on Malyx and Protection on Jalis. (Again just an example, obviously they could do more interesting things, but for simplicity sake.). Alternatively they could have some “true” neutral skills. A sprinkle of abilities based more on the mists than the legends, that are the same across the board regardless of your legend.

Yes I understand that the Legends are a big part of the Revenant’s Utilities bar with the mechanic, but along with unique skills this would be a descent way to pad things a little to allow for more builds/customization. Plus one could be like a Signet which makes you gain Energy faster as the Passive, and maybe auto-recharge your swapping ability on use (with a long cooldown of course.).

Anyway that is my idea. What do you think? Do you have suggestions that you personally think would make this idea work better? What are the faults you see? Please try to keep opinions constructive. Whether you agree or disagree saying “this is a dumb idea” doesn’t help anyone.

Interesting, but you might want to reconsider the Harlot part of the name. It may be an old term but it’s meaning is known and if reported by someone, you will likely either get a forced name change or a suspension.

Haha well, initially I wanted to call her Asynda the Whor* but I figured they’d make me change it.
I’m hoping people will care less about Harlot.
If not, I can just thesaurus-search less obvious names for that profession. Fingers crossed though XD

Well for role play purposes, the story of a Charr prostitute slave might not work. If they are like the big land mammals, they likely go into heat and then at most, once a year. If they have long lived dependent cubs, it may only be once every 2 or 3 years. Since the males see the females as sexually attractive at that time, they may be completely uninterested in female Charrs at other times. By making a female Charr with a prostitute back history, your likely applying human sex roles to them, not Charr sex roles.

“Charr on occasion mate for life, but most relationships are more casual than that. Families are recognized but adult charr have very little contact with their parents or offspring, but sometimes keep tabs on each other for events which could reflect back on the family’s reputation. As soon a cub is weaned, around being a year old, they enter a fahrar of one of their parents’ legion. "

This at least covers how long they hold onto the cubs for, and there is a short story on the wiki which gives at least some insight to their relationships. There’s also some NPC’s in the Citadel where one Charr hits on another, or speaks of them in context related to relationships/mating. From this I think it’s fair to say that they probably don’t go into heat and are just very casual about their partners, some more so than others.

That said given the Flame Legion views woman as only good for cooking and offspring, it’s not strictly out of the question they might have some….“communal” females picked from the attractive ones who couldn’t cook worth a kitten .

Alternatively if they did go into heat perhaps they set aside some particularly attractive females as “rewards” for the Soldiers/Officers who have done particularly well in the last few months.

A friend and myself decided to make Sylvari. Partially because HoT seems like a good time to be playing one for lore reasons, but also because out of 9 characters, both she and I only have 1 Sylvari (3 charr, 3 Asura, 2 Norn, 1 Sylvari for my part.).

I already designed mine (and helped with her’s.). His name will be Rohan (keeping the “title”/nickname to myself.). Born when the Nightmare Court was in it’s early stages his dream was tainted by the Nightmare, leaving him with feelings of confusion and distrust. Very soon after leaving his pod he simply wandered off, seeking out the locations of the various atrocities he’d seen in the dream. In each place he visited he found the light in the darkness; flowers where corpses had rotted, ponds and streams where the land had been rent, festivals held where horrors had once taken place. He learned to appreciate the little things in life, and how good can come from even the darkest acts. He also has some memories from Sylvari I’d made in the past and either deleted because Beta, or because I wasn’t terribly fond of them. (A Sylvari Ranger named Tauburn who died fighting Risen, and a Sylvari Necromancer who was once a Nightmare Court “Recruit” but managed to escape part way through the torture.).

Just want to clear one thing up since this is out of the bag already. There are no “Mordrem Court” in Heart of Thorns. References to that nomenclature are a bug. These enemies are all called “Mordrem Guard”. Now, continue your speculating. :-P

Learn something new every day. Thank you. I still have the rest though. Another reason such a War could happen would be the distrust of the Sylvari and the Nightmare Court rallying others under it. Get them before they get us kind of a thing. (at least from the footsoldier’s standpoint. Likely there’d be more to it behind the scenes.)

The Nightmare War (Speculation)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Wolfe.9850

Wolfe.9850

Alright so at this point we know that the Sylvari are the minions of Mordremoth, or at least intended to be. It’s been noted that the Soundless and similar Sylvari are more vulnerable to Mord’s influence. One can conclude from this that the Nightmare Court are likely just as easily influenced if not more so (if they aren’t already influenced which seems rather likely given their nature and actions.). There have also been shots of Modrem called “Mordrem Court”. From these factors it seems likely that the Nightmare Court will willingly join Mordremoth’s forces. (At the very least some if not all.).

Now in the HoT Trailer there was a part where there was a battle going on, and everyone was fighting Sylvari, at the head of which was very likely Faolain.

With this in mind I had the thought of what if there were an area/zone where the events circle around essentially being at War with the Nightmare Court, with a Dungeon/Instance of some kind where you fight a corrupted Faolain. Alternatively the “war” could be part of a World Event/Living Story with again, a corrupted Foalain as the final boss. Now when I say corrupted I mean heavily corrupted, “I need more power Mordremoth” kinda corrupted.

Thoughts? Speculations? Agreements or Arguments Against? Discuss!

(Again the above is entirely speculation and just something I think would be neat to see.)

Revenant: Locked/Unlocked Skills?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Wolfe.9850

Wolfe.9850

Now like a lot of people I would prefer to have customization in my utility skills. It offers greater diversity in builds/play-style, and a greater sense that you’ve actually “done” something with your set up. That this character is you, and fights your way. Having read the various other posts though I can agree that healing end elite being “locked” to the legend would be acceptable, with 5 or so Utilities to pick from per legend, working in a way similar to how your skills change when you hit the water, only swapping with your legend.

I either want customisable skills, with few legends, or LOTS of legends, and locked skills. (I think 7-10 would be an acceptable number of legends if they locked the skill customisation.)

I can see the above point though. At the very least if it WAS locked we’d need a large legend pool, along with probably a fair number of weapons as well for the sake of diversity. (But really though the 5+ utilities per legend sounds like it’d probably be a bit easier/more worth it.)

Shiro Tagachi [The Jade Coffee Table] – Lets be honest everyone really seems to want him, he was a significant character in GW1, and his skills were pretty kitten.

Glint – She’s dead and yet she’s still effecting the land of Tyria years later. She is yet another pretty significant and awesome character.

Ventari -

Pyre Fierceshot -

Ok I don’t have precise explanations for the last two but they were significant to the history of Tyria and the races and it kinda balances things a bit I guess?

chosen a name for your revenant yet ?

I’m planning to make a Sylvari Revenant. I already have his appearance picked out, although since the names not reserved and I’m not buying another slot until they go on sale or HoT releases so I’ll only give part of his name. Rohan. There’s a title but like I said, keeping that one under my hat.

Not the kodan. Kodan are north and so will be Jormag’s army. Krait and largos, though, certainly. And maybe even some humans or tengu from sunken ships.

Well as far as we know it’s the Oceanic Dragon, so we don’t really know 100% WHERE in the ocean right? Could be possible it has a section far enough North for an Iceberg or two. That saikittenhe only one who hopes “bubbles” is a tentacle dragon? Like I mean tenta-beard or something.

Impossible. Sylvari aren’t corruptable by dragons who aren’t named “Mordremoth”, which hinted they were minions (or at least were born of that dragon). Quaggan, though… we have both risen quaggan and iceborn quaggan (I think there are a few of these in the northern shiverpeaks), so they are clearly corruptable. We don’t know anything about the deep sea dragon, not even its minions unlike all the other dragons, but I can assure you will we will have quaggan fighting at our side and the bulk of the enemy army will probably be corrupted quaggan.

Don’t forget Krait, and probably some Largos. Maybe even a Kodan or two consider that they do live on floating Icebergs normally.
