Add back story to Point of Interests

Xocolatl.6890

Surely these Points of Interests are named for a reason. They are not just quest hubs or vendor markers. A lot of them are pretty cool hangouts, and places that clearly has a history unto itself.

I think that proper back story should be added to each place. This is done by talking to an NPC who knows the story for the place (maybe multiple NPCs for some place? Make them a small investigation quest?). After you learned about a place, the back story can be accessed at any time in the map screen.

A lot of nifty ideas..but I think messing with down state is awesome.

“Mantra of Deception” — on use, make an illusion of yourself in downed state. The fun part: either you gain stealth for 2-3seconds, OR the clone explode after 2-3 seconds or when killed, dealing AoE damage.
Basically, it gives you just about enough time to recharge one Mantra, as well as create some confusion, or use it to lure in the enemy and deal some damage.

Maybe even a Mantra that adds mobility? Mantra build tends to lack that.

OK, yeah, I’m a little biased..but I would love some elite Mantra skill.
Maybe a Mantra that recharges other Mantras? Maybe a flexible one that heals if target is friendly, but damage if target is enemies? I would prefer if it has a bit of a shorter cooldown (45sec or less, since Mantras are mostly single target, short-lived spells).

The enemy can easily figure out which one is the downed player, and which one is the clone. This is because the clone ALWAYS appears first, followed by the downed player.

I think you could use it even after the enemy has already begun winding up the kill animation. I think I have done it before a few times.

If you can stack up the backstabby Rogue with the clone, then power to you. It can really turn a team fight around.

I run a tanky Mantra build with S/S-GS. Works fine as far as I’m concerned. I’m still relatively low level, but I find myself to be a very viable part of the group. It fits my commando style pretty well.

In PvP where I already have my whole list of traits open, that’s where the fun is. Nearly immune to all status effects, as well as having many, many AoE heals makes life really interesting.

How to make money if I have no talent at all?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Or just play away.

I don’t think you need a very high amount of cash all the time. I just hop on, run around and do stuff, then I find that I slowly rack up money (I sell everything to vendors. EVERYTHING!)

If you want even more gold, then just look at what’s selling on AH, then level your profession to that point, then play normally. When you get mats, make that item, over, and over, and over.

Don’t focus too much on it though. You should worry about having fun and finding whatever is fun for you to do. If you grind too much, you won’t have fun playing.

I run 20 power, 20 precision with berserker/knight/valkyrie gear and sword does pretty awesome damage.
Keep in mind that sword attacks much faster than GS, that’s why sword attacks do less damage.

Sword attack also causes vulnerability. After a few stacks, I do more damage with my sword than GS. At least at my pitiful gear level anyway.

What made you want to play a Sylvari?

Because comparatively, there seems to be very small amount of Sylvari players on my server.

Humans are dime a dozen because they’re “pretty”. Norns are decently common because of their cool factor, and Charrs are quite abundant for the very same reason. Even Asura has size advantage in PvP, so people do play them.
Sylvari? Well..I guess you could say that they’re weak in every aspect. Hence, no one like them. Plus, even the Dev once gave an interview that there are very few Sylvaris (and Norns) around. So I figured..what the hell, better give this a try.

Also, I can have a mushroom head. There’s no other way to crack jokes about having people lick my forehead for narcotic effects in this game.

Why does this game seem so horribly unbalanced?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xocolatl.6890

Xocolatl.6890

The real culprit is wonky respawn timer/aggro retaining.
I have had some enemies that crossed the map straight back to my Engy to try to maw my face off, despite me not even being in the area.

The game does some really weird thing with spawning entities, and how they retain aggro from before they die. If you kill things very quickly on the way in (I assume that Ele has really awesome AoEs—I could be wrong), chances are they will suddenly all spawn at the same time, and somehow retain the knowledge of their past lives (hence the vengeance). They will suddenly make a beeline, aggoring everything else along the way (I call it the Gnomeragan syndrome) for you, then promptly corner and kill you.

It’s not Eles. It’s the spawning mechanics bugging.

I think PvE pretty much feels the same every time. But PvP seems like it will always put an interesting kink into the mix.

Personally, I see GW similarly as I do Counter Strike. Sure, I’m doing the same thing every time (every single game, I go for the 2-1 shotgun. Here’s how I begin my matches→ b21b82b84,,,,. → (you only need so much secondary ammo). I haven’t played CS in 3 years, and yet that key sequence is still drilled into my brain--I didn’t get tired of it. I just moved on to TF2 because all CS servers in my region died.

To me, it’s all about reacting to the event. I guess it would be similar to when someone plays a platformer—you know every single jump, but executing them still bring tears of joy to your eyes.

If you’re always looking for new mechanics, then it is probably high time that you move on.

Windows 8, GW2, touch screen?

1) Does the game support Win8?
2) If it does, is there any plan to let select my target via touch screen?
3) If this is not supported natively, is there a way to do it with some third party program/driver/arcane majicks?

So….this schmuck is trying to switch to Win8—he must be insane, right? Well, first of all, I don’t really mind Win8. And my Galaxy S2 is crapping out (it has horrible reception. I hope S3 is better, or God help those who bought the thing) and cuts off every other calls. I need my phone for work, so I can’t wait until next year for BB10 (Blackberry! Yes, yours truly is willing to eschew gaming for more productivity). So if I’m going to get a Windows phone, then I might as well upgrade to Win8, right, right?

Then it got me thinking—if I’m going to switch to a touch-based device, I might as well try to take advantage of that in game. I think it would be quite fun with a huge screen, and I get to “fling” my spells at people and hopefully not wreck my screen in the process.

Mesmer's Mantra resetting

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Mantra resets every time you enter the water (and the ones you charged up in water resets if you come on land). It also resets when you zone in (like say, zoning into PvP), as well as when there is any “world event”, like the PvP gate opening…or even when the announcer says “point X is taken”. At least that happened to me last game (which is coincidentally my first and only PvP match so far).

I think this kind of breaks the build entirely, seeing as at least the port map that I was PvPing in forces you to cross the water, or walk all the way around the edge.

It’s bad and you should feel bad.
I mean it’s good for the block and the Phantasm, but when stood next to Temporal Curtain, The Priestage, iDuelist and Magic Bullet it’s just bad. Why would you want a single block (only blocks one attack, so the first strike with Hundred Blade/Pistol Whip and Unload) or a Phantasm that doesn’t apply a worthy secondary effect?
(iDuelist bleeds every time it crits, and it attacks about 10 times in one ‘attack’, iWarden provides spell deflection as well as secondary effects when in Combo Fields).

YOUR SET UP IS BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD!
-decoys away-

I prefer dual swords on my Mantra build. It extends the “can’t kill me” factor on me by another 2 seconds or so. If used properly, I can chain it back into my slice and dice and live for 2 more seconds.
Also, it looks really cool. Although pistol does admittedly look very awesome too.

Also do something about their 1h sword flurry that does 1/2 the damage of hundred blades while letting them be invulnerable to EVERYTHING for 2 seconds on such a low kitten cooldown.

Funny, as 100b is on an 8s (6.5s with trait) cooldown and deals twice the amount of damage compared to a Mesmer’s ‘Blurred Frenzy’ at 10s (8s with trait).

So to me it sounds more like the OP failed to kill a Mesmer because his I-WIN (100b) button was partially nullified by a sword-Mesmer.

I look forward to reflecting projectiles back at thieves one day.

I think we have pretty crappy armor and ramp up time, so I suppose it makes sense that Mesmers need a bit more HP. I used to play Engie, and dabbled a bit with a Warrior. I find those two classes to be infinitely better than my Mesmer in every regards (with exception of Engy being such an Aggro hog for some reason). But I chose to stick with Mesmer because they seem a lot rarer comparatively.

I have been rolling with Mantra build (currently have what amounts to 9 heals and condition removals). It is pretty fun to walk into the thick of battle and spam my spells. Of course having to spend 15 seconds recharging all of them is no fun..especially when the game bugs out and erase all of my charges for no reason.

I really like the Mantra build. I haven’t come around to it in PvE/WvW yet because I haven’t leveled up enough to get the traits. However, it’s been pretty fun in PvP.

Anyhow, I’m wondering if it is a bug (and would one day be fixed) that all of the Mantra charges disappears when you zone in/event happen/you walked into 2 feet of water? It’s been really painful in the PvP map because when I zoned in, my Mantra charges disappear. When I jump into water, it also disappears. Heck, there are other times in which the charges seemingly disappear for no apparent reason (do they count as “boon” and can be removed by enemies?) The casting is also quite buggy. Not being able to cancel the cast, and also having the kitten thing going on cooldown when I had to cancel it with a roll is massively annoying.

Are all these intended features? Will they one day be fixed?

How to make legendary weapon practical but not OP

in Suggestions

Xocolatl.6890

God forbid guys we add ANYTHING to any item other then just skin. I mean seriously, you GW fanboys are such crybabies. Guy is not asking for a more powerful weapon, just something MORE to a weapon that makes it more attractive.

Anytime i read someone against ideas like this, the only thing i read is this “someone who is to carebear, dont have time, dont have the drive to ever get such item, and so will do what they can to prevent such item to become even better (not more powerful), just better, because they personally, will never attain one”

And btw i agree on OP. If not that idea, perhaps something else that will give legendaries more attractiveness to attain.

P.S. As long as such item does not make you more powerful then your precious exotics, then any arguement you have against is mute.

I don’t think anyone would mind if it in fact does not have higher stats. That seems to be the only real argument, and I think it’s very valid just because it will be a very slippery slope toward “selling power”.

I think one thing they could do is custom animation/spell effects/cool graphical procs. I’m not sure if the current system will support those, but it would be a nice touch.

Who sets Gem prices?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Xocolatl.6890

Xocolatl.6890

A free market would lead us to more speculation and even more attention from hackers and gold sellers. Right now it doesn’t seem attractive to buy gems or gold via the currency exchange because we’re in a troubled part of the game life. Some people got rich really fast while most of us barely have 10 golds. With some time the economy will stabilize (I guess) and the gem demand should lower too (Halloween has a big part to play in the gem’s exchange rate).

As for a free market, most people playing GW2 are casual. Why am I so confident about it? No subscription fee. So what that people are casual? Well I’m pretty sure someone who only has max 1 hour per day to play the game doesn’t have time to check out the TP and try to make sense on how to buy gems and gold. Free market = gimmicks. The currency exchange controlled by ANet = fair.

Why would anyone think that the economy will be able to stabilize? People will make more and more gold, and inflation will happen no matter what until years from now when people move on from this game—then and only then will the price starts to drop again.

From the way I see it, there is no way that ANet is legit about their “supply and demand setting the price”. The price trend shows that price of gems rises every single day of the week. It is impossible for price to rise when there is no one to buy them. Unless of course the price is set based on the amount of gem being sold, in which case the ridiculous spread makes sure that no one can sell their gems anyway.

Or crashing down on that spot relentlessly, turning it into nothing but a hill of swords?

Err…ok, I think if it is the chainsaw skin, then I can totally let it slide.

I guess it is true that we are about deception. Nothing is more deceptive than a guy walking up to you with a huge sword..then proceeding to shoot your face off with the said sword. Must confuse the hell out of everyone.

Guess what I need is a sword skin that looks all crystal-ly and stuff.

Why a great sword?

in Mesmer

Xocolatl.6890

Just..why?

I get it that there are limited amount of items in the game, but great sword to me doesn’t quite fit the Mesmer theme. Mesmers seems more akin to the intellectual type than the brute force type. A great sword is for whacking and slashing. But we Mesmers fire laser out of their great swords as their main mode of attack.
Laser.

Let me repeat that again—L-A-S-E-R.

Why not just use rifle? We already use pistols for offhand. Why not just make a mainhand (DW) pistol?

Want to stick with a 2handed ranged weapon so it doesn’t impede on older slot, but stick with non-tech theme? How about a bow?

The attack animations could very well be applied to these other weapons with minimal change. Phantasms are basically the same anyway, so you could very well leave that. The 3rd slow could be modified to show arrows/explosions/etc jutting off from the ground instead of a sword’s tip, and we can call it a day.

CC interrupts your target, so I’m not sure what you mean. If you CC someone who is just running around, you aren’t interrupting anything, but if you CC someone who is doing anything legitimate, yes, it interrupts.

My definition of CC is anything that reduce/remove the ability for the enemy to move/act. That includes snare(i.e. slow), immobilize(rooted), stunned, blind, etc. I know that the names are different in this game, but that’s the gist of it.

According to that definition of CC, I am guessing that not all CCs count as interrupt. Also in this case, I’m guessing that interrupts can only be done on a target that is in the middle of casting animation. Unfortunately for me, that removes any and all possibility of this build being playable (I play from Asia—by the time I see casting animation, the server has already registered the hit).

I would like to see a viable turret build.

GW engineer is based on TF2 Engy, and Engy uses turrets. Maybe things can be done with the Wrench to help out—make base turret weaker, but has very low cooldown. Then make the wrench give it bonus/reduce activation cooldown. This way, Engy can drop turrets when needed, but they won’t be extremely powerful when unmanned.

Also, CHAINSAW!
But Rhett’s chainsaw needs more pizazz.
- need CC—> Takedown: You kick down the enemy, and then slice the target to bits, crazy murderer style.
- need for mobility (gap closer) —> Skate: Ride on your chainsaw forward, boosting your speed for a short distance and shredding enemies that you passed by. Effected enemies are given Roadkilled! achievement.

Also, kit skin would be very nice.
