Was able to log in no problem pre patch

Now getting a message:

Unable to verify the Guild Wars 2 executable. Please try again. If problem persists, uninstall and reinstall the application or contact customer support

Copied my working old GW2 Backup file and pointed my launcher to it instead and the patch corrupted that file too.

Out of options now. Hopefully they fix this soon.

There is a repair utility, I forgot how to use it, but I know it exists.

Yes, I have run that tool many times over the past few years. I keep the icon for the repair tool right on my desktop.

I am now, after one of the patches over the last week, able to get into the game but the game locks up my machine, forcing reboot 3 times in an hour last night and once this morning.
I basically can not play for more then an hour without it locking up.

What is funny is I fired up GW(1) and kept GW2 turned off, yesterday and left it on for about 9 hours with Zero lockups.

This would be funnier if half of the things weren’t already in the game or being planned to be in the game. :p

Respectfully, you may notice that in the first, post, none of the called out changes are currently in the game or have been officially called out as being planned to be in the game, specifically for small guilds. Mayhap I made that innuendo too obscure.

The parts of which you may be referring, that are in or in planning, were part of a subsequent post, which if you look at the dates of their original threads, were one and two years ago respectively; way before Guild Halls even came out. Sorry I did not make that more clear, my bad.

April Fools came early I see….

Well, actually, this year it came two Tuesdays before April, the same time as it did last year.

Tuesday March 17 2015 – Wish List:Lion’s Arch, The Unfettered Phoenix
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Wish-List-Lion-s-Arch-The-Unfettered-Phoenix/first#post4889687
LION’S ARCH, THE UNFETTERED PHOENIX!

Over a year has passed since its wanton destruction and still, Lion’s Arch remains in ruin. A desperate call went out to all corners of Tyria and though the call was answered, chaos remains. The many Guilds of the Freepeople flocked to the broken city’s aid only to find graft, corruption and failed politics stood squarely in the way of their offered assistance. What started out as the Citizens United movement, yielded only gilded pockets, power mongering and unfulfilled promises… but no longer!

PATIENCE AT AN END, GUILDS OF TYRIA UNITE
In this special Midnight March 31st release: With stoic citizens returning to broken byways and the still burned out husks of their homes, the Guilds have been called to action. No more laboring on the same bridge slat for months. No more barehanded hammering. No more craftfolk’s clueless use of tools. The ineffectual Captains Council has been ‘encouraged’ to step down and the Association of Guilds and Alliances is formed. Their charter motto: “Change in LA doesn’t start from the top down; it starts from the bottom up”. And under this new transparent leadership, the city’s rebuilding begins.

THE TIME FOR CHANGE IS AT HAND
Over the next several months the skeleton of the city’s living form takes shape. The transportation infrastructure stands at the forefront of LA’s future. Once wooden bridges transition into strong metal masterpieces recycled from the plentiful salvage so graciously provided by Breachmaker. Fort Marriner Waypoint has finely, been repaired. The Stonemason, Architect and Woodworking guilds amongst so many others lead the way in the new housing development; as the commerce guilds labor at rebuilding the shining ‘Trade Hub of Tyria’.

NEW IN THIS RELEASE
Lion’s Arch Permanent Events – In like fashion to the Wintersday Dolyak escort event or its sister Lunar New Year event in Divinity’s Reach, LA will now sport 30+ new intra-city dynamic events for those city dwellers not willing to brave the great PvE Open World wilderness. Some of the events will be timed, some will be random spawns, others will have trigger events and yet others could be Guild triggered.

Guild Alliances – The ability of Guilds to ally together under a single banner for the purpose of communication, comradery and community. Some of the additions will include:

  • Alliance chat – This will allow all members of a given alliance to converse as you would similar to Guild chat, in an effort to increase organization and functional logistics.
  • The Alliance tab – In the Guild Menu, this multifunction section grants access to various Alliance assets. This section can also be used to access other aligned guild’s halls of the alliance or the Alliance Courtyard.

The Guild District – A separate area of LA zoned to begin the groundwork to allow for Land Parceling for Guild Hall construction.

New Achievements, Guild Ranks, Revised Security Levels, New Guild Armor & Weapons and so much more are coming in this huge Guild specific release.

On April 1st We return the Guild to Guild Wars!

Heck, in 2014, it actually came in mid-February.

February 12th 2014 – Wish List: Lion’s Arch, A Phoenix Reborn!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Wish-List-Lion-s-Arch-A-Phoenix-Reborn/first#post3629795

LION’S ARCH, A PHOENIX REBORN!

Smoldering and broken, what was once a great city is now lifeless wasteland. Not for 250 years has Lion’s Arch seen such devastation. It’s Citizens have fled to whatever haven they could find, as all seems lost. With desperate hopes, the three Orders call out for assistance and from all corners of Tyria, a new power rises and the call… is answered!

GUILDS OF TYRIA UNITE
In the April 1st release: With Scarlet gone and her minions defeated the time for rebuilding is at hand. The Guilds of Tyria have harkened to the desperate call of the three Orders and more swift than could ever be dreamed, assistance is rendered. Like a phoenix reborn, Guild Halls of all shapes and sizes begin to spring from the ashes of the once great city of Lion’s Arch. Under the leadership of the fledgling guild Destiny’s Child; Braham, Rox, Kasmeer, Marjory and Taimi rally the vast influence and power of the guilds, to lead the charge in the rebuilding of the heart of Tyria.

LION’S ARCH IN TRANSITION
Over the next several months Lion’s Arch will be in a state of rebuilding. Starting with this release we will be redesigning LA into a more grandiose and exciting adventure than it has ever been. The city’s instance has been optimized to encompass a much larger number of people without any adverse effect to Frame Rate, in fact we expect Frame Rates to increase.

NEW IN THIS RELEASE
Revised Guild Interface – A new Guild Interface has been created to be similar to other recent UI revisions. Some of the changes will include:

  • A change in the guild roster allowing member’s last log on to be displayed
  • Numerous features enabling Guild Officers to manage their respective members more easily
  • The Guild Panel has been completely revamped to accommodate the addition of Guild Hall construction.

Guild District – Establishment of a Guild District to set the groundwork for Land Parceling allowing guilds to buy a Guild Plot for Guild Hall construction

  • Guild Deeds can now be purchased by the Guild Leader to reserve a plot in the new Guild District for future Hall construction
  • Guild Hall construction can begin once the guild has assigned its Guild Deed to a specific Guild Plot

Guild Bank – Bank structure has been updated to allow for new development levels and features

  • Guild Stash, Trove, Cave and the new Vault are now all separate areas of the Bank each with their own Rank security settings. Each of the above can be broken down by tabs to further refine deposit groupings
  • Deposit boxes (small, medium and large)can now be purchased by each guild member for Guild specific storage

Guild Merits and Guild Missions – Will be revised in a future release to allow for participation of small and medium sized guilds

New Guild Ranks, Revised Security Levels, New Guild Armor and so much more coming in this huge Guild specific release.

On April 1st We put the Guild back into Guild Wars!

GUILD HALLS, FOR THE MASSES
United we stand! Having finely established a foothold in the Magus Falls, the great guilds of Tyria have laid the groundwork for the rest of the Guild Brotherhood to stake their own claim in the Maguuma wilderness. Following in the footsteps of their larger brethren, the time has come for the rest of the central Tyrian guilds to claim their own Guild Halls. In pursuit of a unified guild community, the phalanx force of the grand guilds, has called out to their smaller siblings for assistance, and from all corners of Tyria, the call… is answered!

GUILDS OF TYRIA UNITE
In the March 29th patch: We will lay the groundwork for the Friday April 1st rollout of Guild Halls for the masses. Guilds of ALL shapes and sizes can now lay claim to a scaled version of their very own Guild Hall. With far reduced restrictions to number of active members and pooled resources needed, enabling them to claim their very own piece of the Guild Hall experience.

SMALLER GUILD MEMBERSHIPS ARE NOW INCLUDED
Starting with this release, we have redesigned Guild Halls into a more universally exciting experience for guilds of all sizes. The Guild Hall instance has been optimized to encompass a much more varied number of players without any adverse effect to the efforts engaged by those who already have established Guild Halls.

NEW IN THIS RELEASE
Claiming A Hall – A full party of 5 players or more, with at least 3 of which representing the claiming guild, is now able to realistically capture a Guild Hall. The guild claiming mission has been modified to accommodate a much smaller contingent, striving to plant their own respective banner and build a Hall they can be proud of.

Changes to the Guild Hall Structure – As the guild level changes so will the overall look of the hall change. Small guilds will start out with a significantly reduced real estate footprint as compared to the starting instance of their larger counterparts. Due to the reduced size of the smaller Guild Halls, so too they will require a reduced amount of resource building materials to construct their upgrades. If a guild does grow in number of members, additional resources will be required to accommodate the increase in Guild Hall capacity.

General Guild Upgrades – Our Guild Team has also retooled a new Guild Interface to allow for a more smoothly flowing guild interaction. Some of the changes will include:
• Numerous features enabling Guild Officers to manage their respective members more easily
• A new Guild Mail system has been implemented to facilitate easier communication between Guild Officers and Guild Members.
• Visiting Vendor NPCs will now frequent your Guild Hall in hopes of pawning their untraditional wares, giving access to items that are not usually available.

Guild Bank – Bank structure has been updated to allow for new development levels and features
• Guild Stash, Trove, Cave and the new Vault are now all separate areas of the Bank each with their own Rank security settings. Each of the above can be broken down by tabs to further refine deposit groupings.
• Guild Deposit boxes (small, medium and large) can now be purchased, via the Gem Store, for Guild specific storage

Scribe – A complete revision of the Scribe guild crafting discipline to encourage any guild members who may want to contribute, will be able to do so. Scribing has been brought into line with requirements and benefits to match the other crafting professions.

New Guild Ranks, Revised Security Levels, Guild Alliances, Guild Commander Tags and so much more are coming in this huge Guild specific release.

Coming April 1st – Guild Halls… for the other 99% !

[Suggestion] Spinal Blade backpack --> glider

Padd: Ok, final version only for glider, got ya. I don’t do PvP so I will have to take your word for it on that one.
As Pax states, there are 4 colors available, I would think that the color of the glider would be inherited from the already set dye channel of the backpack item. Therefore I would propose that this skin is Not dyeable.

Interesting. As one who has an Ascended Synergetic Tempered Spinal Blades, this suggestion might make me consider wearing this backpack skin again. Heck I might even purchase these from the Gem Store(have not purchased any glider skins as of yet).

I do wonder if you considered about those who have the Spinal Blade Pack,Twin, Quad and Advanced models. Do you propose that they also be turned into gliders too? If so that would change the development time and resources from 1 glider item, to requirements for 5 sets of glider wings.

That might be a serious outlay of development time for items that are somewhat archived.

Thoughts?

Choose “On Demand” in the General Options tab under “Streaming”.

A good suggestion, thank you Jon but, what does “On Demand” actually mean?

Could you please tell us what ramifications a player will incur by changing to that setting?
i.e.

  • will the game only load the map you are currently in or will it maybe load all maps you have at one time visited?
  • will each new map you go to have a noticeably longer load time?
  • will the other not demanded content trickle download?
  • will personally never used content, like PvP, Raids and Fractals never get downloaded?

Just a bit more information will enable us to make a more personally informed decision.

[Satire] My New Game: Outside

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Yalora Istairiea.6287

Yalora Istairiea.6287

Personal Observations of the Outside Game

Best Graphics EVER – I have compared Outside with numerous other games, all of which pale in comparison. Outside is just so realistic. I have come across NO clipping issues, the skins are flawless and the color palate is off the scale. I must admit though on the downside, as I continue to level up, it seems that the graphics engine has become a bit outdated. I have noticed some blurring of items when zoomed into first person mode, forcing small printed items to be held at arm’s length. Fortunately the local merchant sells glasses which grant +1.5 vision buff.

The Maps Are Huge – I have opened about 66% of my starter map and I must say I have barely scratched the surface. The maps are so detailed and loaded with Easter eggs that you could explore your starter map all the way to max level and still have plenty left to see. I normally play in the NA region which has such a variance in map design to boggle the mind but I have also spent quite a bit of time in the EU and Oceanic region, both of which offer their own unique exploration opportunities which I would recommend to all players who have the availability of time and currency.

Resource Nodes Are Almost Non-existant – In all the time I have been playing, I have never found an Mining Node on any map. Though there are numerous Logging nodes available, you must be very careful on where you try to harvest since logging on a map area already claimed by another player can lead to Open World PvE Dueling which can quickly result in a downed state or worse yet a permanent defeated state requiring a complete reroll of character. Harvesting can be done freely if your Home Instance has sufficient room to do so.

Home Instance Is NOT Free – Unlike other games which grant you a free home instance, The Outside Game actually charges you. We are not talking a couple silver nuisance cost here, these darned things cost more than a Legendary in most other games. Oh and it doesn’t stop there. After you purchase your home instance there are subscription fees required monthly to continue ownership of said instance. Failure to pay such fees results in a shutting down of QoL functions. Talk about a gold sink.

Gold Sinks Are Everywhere – There are so many gold sinks built into the game that it is very difficult to level up without undue hardship. Now granted once I committed to procuring a lifelong gaming partner numerous years ago, leveling up has become much more enjoyable experience and the gold sinks have become easier to bare.

RNG System Is Broken – I have been playing the RNG MegaMillion lottery for many years now and have realized it is completely broken. Most of the time it completely consumes my investment and returns nothing. Occasionally I receive a free token to play again but that is just a pipe dream, see results noted above. There was one time when I received 8sp for playing but once it was split with the rest of my party, the reward didn’t even cover my initial investment.

GM’s Are Not Listening – In all the time I have been playing, I have NEVER seen a GM in the game. There is no communication between the players and the GMs. Oh sure there are certain TV evangulists who “claim” they have personal communication with the Devs but these individuals tend to pan out as braggarts and charlatans. It is like the GMs just made the game and moved on. No matter how much I hope and pray for changes in the way the game is progressing, my suggestions seem to fall on deaf ears. Do the GM’s even play their own game I wonder?

Definitely, Pay To Win – Outside is definitely a Pay to Win game. It doesn’t matter how much experience you have, it all comes down to the all mighty gold piece. I bought some pretty good stuff. Got me a 300gp pair of wool Wintersday socks. Got a Tengu-feather lined sink. A mana-powered Minipet polisher. A ley-line infused Quaggan sweater. But, of course, I bought some dumb stuff, too. If you are able to decipher the intricate game mechanics and accumulate a modest amount of gold, the game rewards you with much better QoL enjoyment.

I worked with Cody of the ANet sound team a few years ago on the volume, which resulted in the sound being turned WAY down. Too low for my taste, but it was deemed more of a level to not irritate other players.

There are some people, who due to some type of bug or audio card issue, it is barely discernible but for most people it is fine.

Here are two scenarios:

Given: Numbers are deliberately small to allow for simplicity of equation. It should be fairly easy to continue the numbers out to a larger market scheme

Available Market of non-finite good: 100 pieces
Time frame: 3 minutes
Price for the entire market of 100 pieces:
50 pcs $P
40 pcs $P+1
10 pcs $P+2

Scenario 1:
Person A buys 20 pcs at $P, a minute later Person B buys 20 pcs at $P, a minute later Person C buys 10 pcs at $P and 40 pcs at $P+1 but is not willing to buy any at P+2
Outcome – 90% of the market is depleted by three people in three minutes

Scenario 2
Person A buys 50 pcs at $P, and 40 pcs at $P+1 but is not willing to buy any more at $P+2
Outcome – 90% of the market is depleted by one person in one minute

Question: Are either of the Scenarios Market Manipulation?

TPMN: Yes I am aware (visions of Macro and Micro Economics come flooding back) but the point is, if someone does fairly speculate, and buys up most or all of the supply of something one could say that it does interfere with the free and fair operation of a market, for a period of time, until the market sees that change and adjusts accordingly. Hopefully for the mass buyer it adjusts favorably and they make the money they were speculating they would.

I am not saying that this move was done with any actual foreknowledge or not, just that it easily could have just been a mass purchase based on someone’s legitimate Trading Post use.

Unfortunately people get bent out of shape by their interpretation of a word.

Manipulation: to handle or control (a tool, mechanism, etc.), typically in a skillful manner.
Every person who buys or sells on the TP is manipulating the price. If you buy up 10 pieces of something and the price drops down to the next highest seller, you have manipulated the price. If you buy 10k pieces of something you are doing exactly the same thing. It all comes down to quantities and at what break point each person deems it to be too much manipulation. But in the end it is just personal interpretation.
So Manipulation is a good thing. It is the engine on which a free-market system is powered.

Speculation: the forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence.
So speculation is just a guess, based on perceived factors which give an expectation of a future event. If you speculate well, you make money. If you don’t, you loose money.

Just because someone speculates on an item and manipulates the quantities greatly does not necessarily point to foreknowledge and an insider-trading conspiracy.

Astralporing: You seemed to miss the point. The concentration of damage, as I said would be on top of the Pedestal where everyone stands in safety NOT spread around the room like in the old days. Once people realize it is no longer safe up there they will spread out, like what happened with Golem’s box removal and Shatterer’s right side ledge.

As for the preevents: I am not commenting on the quality of the preevents, just as to the timing between finishing one event and the starting of the next. If you are busy doing the prevents instead of just standing there, then there is no wait time.

Like Shatterer, it’s a big wait long time, spam 1 event. It’s time to make it harder like it was before.

Thanks for your support

I am sorry but I can not support your opinion.

  1. Shatterer is a Lev. 50 Boss, Fire Elemental is Lev. 15
  2. The wait time between the end of the preevent and the start of the FE event is about 15 seconds.
  3. As you say it was harder before, they changed it because it mowed down most of the non L80 players.

You can’t have the difficulty level of a substantially higher level map in a starter map, because it will frustrate new players. Not a good plan for keeping player population.

If you are complaining about long wait time I think it is safe to assume you are just sitting up on the platform letting everyone else complete the preevents for you. Otherwise there is parctically NO wait time.

However, on your last note, I do somewhat agree. What ANet learned with Teq, Mark II Golem and Shatterer was that they cannot allow a well known safe spot to exist. As soon as the Fire Elemental realizes that a mass concentration of people on a pedestal allows for the opportunity for a massive pile of crispy bits, then this battle will change drastically.
How about if FE spawned a comparable amount of Embers on top of the pedestal as players… like rats from a sinking ship.

[COMPLETE] Forsaken Soul: A Tangent Askew

                                                                   Author’s Musing:

(Serious Spoiler Alert!) – There are numerous references below which will spoil the Forsaken Soul: Series, so if you stumbled down here by accident, before reading the story, please stop reading now.

I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to read my Forsaken Soul Novelette in its entirety. It has been a pleasant labor of love for me to write, and I hope that at least some of you have enjoyed reading it.

When I first started writing this story, the plan was to make this tale about 5-10 pages long. Up until the time I started this project, the longest work that I had ever written was about 3 pages long, so trying to tackle ~10 pages was a big jump for me. Luckily as the ideas started to coalesce, one thing led to another, and so on, and so on. Until, imagine my surprise, 66 weeks and over 33 thousand words later the journey was complete.

It was as if the adventure had taken on a mind of its own. I must admit, the final outcome came out completely different then I had expected on day one. When I first came up with the concept of a character lost in the jungle, it was a year before GW2: Heart of Thorns came out so I had no idea what to expect of the jungle area. I did take some poetic license to preemptively create some areas that you will not be able to find in the game. I tried to make the landscape relatively general to be able to be inserted anywhere in the Heart of Magumma.

As I was developing the concept of what I wanted to do with the story, the first thing that came to mind was to write in a very untraditional compositional format. I didn’t want my first story to be like all the other fanfiction stories you might read. So I started my first chapter with Chapter 4 with the hope to loop back around to Chapter 1 at a later time. I certainly never thought that loop would be 40 chapters later.

I am not a fan of reading fight scenes in literature, as they tend to come off shallow and boring by even the most accomplished writer. So I kept the few excerpts of physical conflict short and esoteric by design. What I do like as a reader is deep, rich, mental imagery, so that was what I strove to achieve in this piece of fiction.

The other thing I enjoy is character development. This is why I chose to make the main character nameless, raceless and genderless, for most of the story, in an effort to allow the reader to concentrate less on the character physical features and more on the person inside. I also wanted to keep the number of secondary characters very small. Too many times I have read books that have so many characters that you don’t recall the players without a scorecard.

Again I would like to thank you all for reading.

Epilogue

In the beginning, there was nothing- and then, there wasn’t. Let us call it a Miracle if you like, for something from nothing is truly miraculous indeed. In all that encapsulates that which is not, a consciousness was born. And so it was, and was and was, and then something new appeared. It began as a speck, a mere pinpoint of a thing smaller than small. And in this nothing realm, the little speck grew in power, and its power grew massive. Thus began the existence of the first speck of time. Though the speck had no knowledge of its own being, the sentient Miracle was fully aware of it and started to observe. Imagine if you will, the Miracle’s surprise, when the speck gazed back… with deep, azure-blue eyes.

Chapter 53 – Fare Thee Well

Forward lies the future. Forward lies the past. Present is the fulcrum.
Backward lies the present. Backward lies the future. Past is the constant.
Decide your past. Decide your present. Future is what you make it.
So it was written. So it will be done. Destiny shall record.

Midnight and I stood at the apex of the bridge spanning the Lay Line river as my druidic celestial form dissipated. The Seer stared at me through his cold pools of azure-blue.

The plasma energy pulse that I had witnessed- what was seemingly ages ago- had only progressed a few feet from when it had first entered the cave. It ever so slowly rode atop the deadly white river like a silver-humped dolphin atop a tidal surge.

“Greetings Seer,” I say, somewhat exhausted.
“Well met Ader Smokewing,” he says in a raspy response. “You have done well.”
I sigh heavily, as I brush a grime incrusted clump of feathers off my face. Watching for his response, I hike my thumb over my shoulder at the paused spike of energy. “It seems as if the cosmos has given us a little break to collect our thoughts.”
“Time… is catching up with itself, which it will do in due course, but currently, we have been afforded a slight interlude to reflect. This has been quite the adventure, wouldn’t you say?”
“Adventure may be an understatement Seer; it has changed me to the very core of my being.”
“You have grown into quite the force to be reckoned with. It was a pleasure to be privy to your development,” he says in an almost fatherly tone.
“We could have never done it without you Seer,” I say, absently scratching Midnight behind the ears.
“Each as we were meant to be, the three of us played our parts well, I would think.”
“But our journey has come to a close then, hasn’t it?” I inquire in a nonchalant tone. “We will not survive this will we?”
He glances over my shoulder at the still-paused energy spike. “No, we will not,” he says candidly.
“Ah well. Though I would expect no one will ever know of Midnight’s and my story, at least you will remember us, won’t you, Seer?”
“Sadly, no, Youngling, I will not.”
I tilt my head at his inflection. “What do you mean?”

I follow the gaze of his dark-blue eyes as they glance down. For the first time, I notice the tail end of an amethyst arrow shaft jutting from an ugly, wet chest wound, glistening with black, ink-like fluid. He sways a bit, supporting himself on the pedestal between us, but holds up a hand when I move to assist. Then the thought dawns on me in horror. ‘I did this!’ When I struck the crystal archer just as he was firing, I succeeded in causing it to miss the ancient hourglass, but in the heat of battle, I did not see where the errant arrow had gone.

“Nooo!” I cried out, not believing the sight before me. “This cannot be,” I cried, raising Bramblethorn.
“Stay your hand, Ader. Though I very much appreciate the sentiment, your newly-acquired druidic skills cannot help me now. I have foreseen this turn of events and am both aware and prepared for its outcome.”
But- but, if you knew this was going to happen, why didn’t you stop me?”
“You know very well why,” he said sternly.
I think back to a previous encounter. ‘Your course of action is yours and yours alone. I cannot influence your decision or through inaction allow your decision to be influenced.’ My shoulders slump in defeat. “You were not able to stop my action, even though it would cost you your life.”
He nodded, his voice softer. “As you are aware, all actions have their consequences. Cause and effects, ways and means. We are all the result of decisions made and actions taken, or not taken, for that matter.”
“I wish I would have known you better,” I say as tears begin to well.
”Tut, tut there-,”he scolds as he breaks into an uncontrollable bout of sickly-wet coughing. After the fit subsided, he continued, “What you lack in recollection, I make up for in experience.”
I look at him with an expression of confusion. “I do not understand.”

“Though you do not know it, we have spent a lifetime together. I was there when you were conceived, and when your egg tooth first broke through into the world. I was there as you journeyed through your adolescence, there at your first dealings with the death of your mentor and there when Midnight first nuzzled your hand. So as you see, I know you almost as well as you know yourself, but it is now time for you to move on. It is time to fledge Youngling, and spread your preverbal wings. You are a Phoenix reborn, the genesis of quintessential druidic power in the world. Your life as Tyria’s incognizant savior has ended. You have blossomed into a beautiful, intelligent and thoughtful soul, and it has been my distinct pleasure to have known you.”

I look to the three hourglasses and back to the Seer, who follows my gaze. “You understand now.” He states matter-of-factly, in barely a whisper.
I reach out my left hand to the ancient hourglass of the past, and my right grabs the aberrant timepiece of the future. “They are not three separate entities of past, present and future but one singularly-universal force.”

The Seer smiles weakly, knowing his teachings were successful. ”Fare the well,” he sighs, as his eyes glaze.

Time has caught up to itself as the plasmic energy wave comes careening toward us. I pull the artifact of the future and the one of the past together as they merge with the timepiece of the present. It seems that time will allow one more paradox, as I simultaneously exist in two places at once. My physical form appears in the Druid’s Vale, while my metaphysical one bears witness to the sacrificial martyrdom of the Seer as his selflessly-dedicated existence is vaporized, leaving one final whispering in my mind…
‘The time is nigh.’

                                                                   THE END

jeezlaweez: I do not know what contact you had directly with ANet during the CDI, so I am not able to refute your knowledge of what ANet did or did not think. But you seem to have been privy to information many of the rest of us were not.

From my correspondence with Chris Whiteside during the CDI and how the CDI progressed as a whole, my expectation of what the overall Guild Hall structure and function would be was much different than what was finely presented.

That said, Chris was very clear that the CDI would not be transferred into an ANet internal roadmap, which is why I have not said much of anything about the final GH outcome.

As you said: “The problem is that to give all that was wanted there, they created something that for now, only major guilds can manage to get AND play the game for themselves at the SAME TIME.”
I was not aware that ANet said …they created something that for now, only major guilds could manage… That is good news, it leaves me with hope that change is in the near future, thank you.

I was personally very active in the 32 page Guild Hall CDI from page 1. One thing that was made abundantly clear was that Guild Halls were to be made available for Small, Medium and Large guilds.

Maybe the Small/Medium guilds were left out in the initial release of Guild Halls but it was stated that there was specifically a Guild Team now so they may be working to bring the rest of us into the fold shortly.

One can only dream.

Chapter 52 – Déjà Vu Too

“Mursaat,” I hiss under my breath. Had Scarlet been secretly working with them all along? She had her meddling fingers in so many other atrocities; I wouldn’t put it past her.

Unlike my previous selves or the enemy before me, I knew what was about to transpire. The time for decisive action is at hand. I swap weapons, feeling the familiar heft of Cobalt. The Mursaat raises a clenched fist toward the scene on the bridge as the crystalline archer brings its bow to bear. The Seer’s hand is on the other-me’s forehead as his body contorts in spasms of uncontrollable agony. With initiative in our favor, Midnight and I leap into action.

I sight on the bow-wielding crystal construct as Midnight lunges at the Mursaat. Running forward, I leap at my amethyst foe and bring Cobalt down on the exposed back of my target just in time to see its arrow fly, narrowly missing the ancient wood hourglass of the past. The Mursaat turns in perfect time for Midnight’s fervent mauling of his exposed left arm and torso. My attack, I had hoped, would shatter my foe, but instead it spins itself around blindingly fast to deliver an attack of its own. It swings the bow in a roundhouse counter and impacts on the flat of my blade at the end of my swing, disarming and sending Cobalt clattering across the stone floor.

Midnight on the other hand, has serious problems of her own. The Mursaat reaches out and grabs her by the throat, dangling her effortlessly from his crushing grasp. Her entire form from tip to tail twitches uncontrollably. Weaponless, I retreat as the archer prepares to nock another arrow. The Mursaat drops Midnight, discarding her like so much refuse, as she continues to spasm on the floor. Though I do not feel the physical effects of her agony, our tethered connection empathically conveys the anguish of her torture. Along that same conduit I pass what positive energy I could as we heal as one. Seemingly unconcerned with our actions, our enemy prepares its next assault. We both look to Cobalt, too far away to be of any use any more, and then back to each other. It is almost as if my enemy was able to anticipate my actions, and with this advantage they would surely prevail. But just then, the words from the Ancient Druid of the future come flooding back.

The words from the Ancient Druid of the future come flooding back.

‘You do not possess the skills or knowledge to defeat them. But you have come to the future to prepare for a battle in the past. It is for this purpose to which we are uniquely equipped. For the power that we will imbue does not exist in your past, and therefore cannot be anticipated by your enemy.’

I reach back and draw the gnarled, vine-wrapped gift from the future. Raising Bramblethorne, I feel the change begin as I summon forces the world has long thought dead. The spirit of the ancient Druids had found a new vessel, and I am their Celestial Avatar. It is glorious. I am entwined with the cosmos. Energy flows up through the stone under my feet and the very air itself is alive. I am Tyria incarnate.

For the first time in what I would expect is its entire life, the Mursaat knows fear. Its eternally-confidant demeanor waveres ever so slightly; a gap in its armor glares forth. What happens next all takes place between ticks of time. As one grain of sand passes from present to past yet before future moves to present, my time has come.

I level Bramblethorne in my enemy’s direction and invoke a natural convergence. As nature’s energy builds, the Mursaat unleashes an attack of its own. Moving in an exaggeratedly-slow motion, it releases Midnight from suffering and thrusts its hand in my direction. I feel a wave of agonizing energy as it tries to overwhelm me, but to my surprise, it is completely nullified by my ascended armor. Now it is the Mursaats turn to be surprised, as its primary attack is no longer effective. Unfazed by its master’s struggle, the crystal bowman unleashes its amethyst bolt which rips a path through the joint between my left shoulderguard and chestpiece. The burning burst of pain is near-overwhelming, but I hold open the channel to the convergence as the singularity forms. The micro black hole that the convergence created roots both of my enemies in place, which is what I expected; what I did not expect was the following turn of events. The various energy flares which randomly spew up from the ley-line river that flows just behind the enemy were naturally drawn toward the singularity, and as the positive energy flowed toward the null space of the convergence, it passed through both of my enemies. They were instantly vaporized as if they never existed.

I release the channel, allowing the wisps of plasma to return to the glowing river. Midnight starts to rise but looks visibly shaken from the Mursaat’s onslaught of agony. Still holding my Druidic celestial form, I direct the balance of my healing prowess to Midnight, stabilizing her distress.

Just then, I feel a gut-wrenching tug on my soul as the duality of my otherself on the bridge and I was being thrust back together from previously being ripped asunder. The universe, it seems, despises a paradox. Midnight and I and our bridge counterparts were, by our very nature, paradox’s embodiment and needed the enigma to be resolved.

Chapter 51 – Time Is Nigh

A strange feeling of duality rushes over me, as if I exist in multiple layers of splintered reality, with subtlety-different causations, all being simultaneously experienced and then broke asunder. The sensation is both maddening and comforting at the same time. The sky above the sky is open and the stars rain down; we are one.

My memory returns. Not in disjointed flashes or tidbits of recollection, nor as a trickled hint of misty recall; no, it comes en masse. An immense wave of reflective incite, the entirety of my hidden past pours into me like a massive tidal torrent. From my early childhood to my many previous visits to this very cavern, the flood of my personal history fills in the missing blanks as if it was never gone.

I stand in the Ley Line cave, my back braced against the crystalline door. The gift from the future, of the living staff Bramblethorn, steadies me during the mental onslaught. The scene which unfolds in front of me is strangely surreal. The plasmatic river of light still flows into the gaping maw of Mordremoth. The Seer still stands at the spanning bridge’s apex, hovering by the stone pedestal bearing its three ancient artifacts. All of this is how I expected it to be, according to my newfound memories. All of it, with the exception of Midnight and myself poised in mid-conversation with the Seer. I am too far away to hear what is being said, but I can see that the discussion is intense.

Out of the corner of my eye, the energy spike enters the cavern as the amplitude pulse rolls down the river toward the bridge. Now I know at which point we have entered this foray. The other me grasps the artifact of the future and tilts it forward. This process is all exactly as I now remember, but what happens next, due to my unique perspective, is perceived only by myself and Midnight.

At the base of the bridge closest to me, two forms materialize from thin air. One looks very much like the Seer, though its golden color and wispy, black, featherlike tendrils sprouting from its back made it quite distinctive in contrast. The second figure was a hovering head and torso of amethyst crystal wielding a crystalline bow. Both were facing the Seer, my other-self and other-Midnight, backs conveniently toward me and hopefully, completely oblivious to our presence.

The Seer reaches forward and places one huge hand on other- me’s emblazoned-armor chestpiece. A flame-orange aura cascades from him and into the armor, raising it from an exotic chest-guard into Ascended garb worthy of the heroes of legend. Events have come full circle, the time is nigh, but this time, time is on my side.

Chapter 50 – A Weapon Reforged

The vale was bathed in the pale silver light of a brilliant harvest moon. I had never seen Tyria more alive. Trees, bushes, grass, and even the very ground itself were glowing with life. It was as if the world itself was shining a beacon to the spirits of the sky above the sky. At its center, grew a circle of proud-standing, rose-colored, granite monoliths which formed a large henge structure that would make even the ancient dwarves proud. The glade was so pristine with pure life-force that I felt nearly invisible in its glory.

“Ameyalli dwells here,” Chicatl said reverently in a whisper.

I looked to him in silence, fearful that any utterance would shatter the perfection before me. I could see movement from within the henge but am unable to make out its source. Chicatl looked to me and nodded as he took a step forward. I followed suit, treading ever so lightly so as not to break the delicate balance of the natural order. As we progressed toward the henge, brief flashes of my past began to return to me with each footfall. Though disjointed, they were familiar and comforting.

We arrived at the henge and proceeded under the lintel of the megalithic gate into the rosestone circle proper. And that was when I saw them appear: the druidic spirits of old. History had portrayed them as lumbering, spiritual plant creatures somewhat resembling Oakhearts, but the ones we encountered were far different indeed. Each of the four ancient spirits looked completely different, not only from each other but also from themselves. Each time you looked at them, it was as if their shapeshifting ability had gone wild, randomly switching between a towering version of any creature of nature. Looking too intensely at one of them for any small period of time caused my mind to teeter on the razor’s edge of insanity. As if sensing my discomfort, all four settled on a single spiritual form and remained there.

The one closest to me took a Tengu form which I now recognized as a huge spiritual apparition of my long-dead instructor and friend of my childhood. The one by Chicatl formed a spirit version of a young Heylek boy, and the one by Midnight took a large Jaguar’s semblance. The final one, though, was the one who spoke, taking the form of a specter of an ancient Seer.

“Greetings, Ader Smokewing, Quetzalclan of the Eastwind House, emissary of the Dominion of the Winds and Keystone of the Arch of Time,” the spiritual Seer said in perfect Old Canthan. He turned to Chicatl and continued. “Greetings, Elder Chicatl, Enlightener of Children, T’lapiaz`que and Guide.” And lastly he turned to Midnight. “Greetings Midnight, Firstborn of the Grawler Pride and Soulbound Companion.”

He turned to address my Heylek friend. “Elder Chicatl, your task as T’lapiaz`que has come to an end. You have served your duty well, but you can no longer follow where Ader Smokewing leads. Return to your people, knowing deep in your heart that your service has proven pivotal in the final determination of Tyria’s fate.” Chicatl nodded and turned to leave. Like a wispy tendril of errant smoke, he was gone.

The ghostly Seer turned back to me. “Midnight, Ader, you cannot be here. You are quite literally out of time. You are a paradox which will soon need resolution, for you are currently dwelling in your own future.” My mouth opened but nothing came out. “Time will claim you shortly, so we must be brief. You are soon to encounter an overwhelming force, one which has remained hidden for hundreds of years. If left to their meddling devices, your mission will surely fail. But we have not been lax over the years, and we have a plan of our own.”

“It’s the Mursaat, isn’t it?” I said as the vision of the golden embodiment of evil and their crystal construct trickled back into my memory.

“It is. And left to your devices, you do not possess the skills or knowledge to defeat them. But you have come to the future to prepare for a battle in the past. It is for this purpose for which we are uniquely equipped. For the power that we will imbue does not exist in your past and therefore cannot be anticipated by your enemy.”

“What do you need me to do?” I asked, finely finding my voice.

“Do?” He echoed. “That which is needed, you have already done. You have fashioned a vessel of purity in yourself and into that ewer we will pour your salvation.” The spiritual Tengu of my long-dead friend steped forward, a stout branch of bramblewood held between his hands.

“This is Bramblethorne, my trusted friend. May it assist you as it always has me when all else fails.”

“Begging pardon, but I have no skill with a staff.” I replied, trying not to offend.

“Oh you will still have the skills which have sustained you throughout your life, but your cup is still half full and we shall fill it to the brink.”

I took the offered Bramblethorne, though honestly I did not know the meaning of what they spoke. I look over to Midnight and see her face to face with her spirit counterpart, conversing, for lack of a better word.

My body started to tingle as the ghostly Seer moved toward me. He placed his hands on my shoulders. “Youngling, all that exists is all that must be. Good and evil, dark and light, growth and decay. One cannot exist without the other and all their lesser extremes in-between.” Placing a hand on my forehead he continues. “Borek nor, cha norabod tek eir Ader Smokewing, tracorum pala Ur-Druid.”

I felt energy fill my being, I was reborn, a crucible of might reforged. With a perfect clarity, I assumed my new celestial form. “Welcome to the fold, my sister. Your legacy is begun.”

I raise my head and call to the stars. “Be forewarned and tremble, O enemies of Tyria, for the Druids… have returned!” – fade to black.

                                                                   *****

Can we please be able to mystically flush…..

I have Mawdrey, Star and Princess and luckily for me, between them and crafting, I am able to keep my Ascended Materials in check.

I must admit, I have also majorly reduced my gameplay time since much of the required group philosophy released in HoT has not been designed for my gaming style, c’est la vie.

If the eaters are not disposing enough, try crafting as much as you can into bricks, ingots and stars; at least they take a whole lot less inventory space and can still be downgraded back into their base materials if needed.

No gliding is not disabled in all JPs. I just did Under New Management after Karka Queen this morning and my glider kicked in causing me to hit a cross strut and fall instead of dropping on the spot I should have.

I know that I have a tendency to leave my thumb on the space too long sometimes but it would be nice if they disabled the glider while doing all JPs.

Chapter 49 – To The Vale

Our treetop route from the heylek village to the Druid Vale is mostly without incident. A few wyvern flybys cause my assigned escorts to pause as our group takes cover from the soaring serpents, but by twilight, we arrive at our destination.

“This is where we part ways, Ader Smokewing,” the leader of the Heylek soldiers advises. “Your T’lapiaz`que will remain as your companion and guide.”

I look to Chicatl who nods his agreement. “Be not concerned Ader; there are no Mordrem here.”

The thinly-veiled hatred on his pronunciation of ‘Mordrem’ makes me wonder. What is this Mordrem? I can only assume they are somehow related to Mordremoth, so after the escort departed, I broach the subject.

“Chicatl, might I ask, what is this Mordrem that you so abhor?”

It was clear after I made the inquiry I raised a subject that I should not have. A flash of ire crossed Chicatl’s face as a deep, smoldering anger fanned into an inferno. His reaction caused me to take an abrupt step back as a low, guttural rumble resounded from Midnight.

But as quickly as the blazing revile surfaced, so it just as quickly submerged. “Forgiveness friend Ader. I had forgotten you are not from our lands and have no clue of the Mordrem, and I clearly have some personal demons to battle.” He raises the stump of where his left arm would have been and caresses it in reflection. “This,” he says nodding to his raised half appendage, “is the result of my own stupidity in underestimating one of Mordremoth’s smallest corruptions, but that pales in comparison to the Nightmare Vine’s murder of my son.”

I stand there, mouth slack and eyes wide in horror. “A thousand pardons- I had no idea!”

“No, of course you didn’t, my friend; I take no offence and bear you no ill will.” As we walked along the jungle floor toward a destination which only he knew, he proceeded to tell me all about Mordremoth’s abominations and how the plague of Mordrem was spawned upon his awakening.

“So the Mordrem, the death, the chaos and Tyria’s widespread destruction all trace back to Scarlet,” I say with conviction.

Chicatl stops and looks at me askance. “Scarlet?” he asks.

Visions of thick clouds of hanging miasma choking the life from the fallen masses; the earsplitting screech as the huge Breachmaker drill hits the glowing white plasma of the Lion’s Arch Ley line node. And that laughter, that maniacal cackle of sanity finely shattered, all come flooding back to me as if the events were just unfolding. ‘Nooooo!’ I scream.

“Ader,” Chicatl says as he shakes me from my reverie. “Are you all right?” My eyes focus on his. “You were screaming.”

“I… I had a memory resurface, and it was horrid.”

“I am sorry,” he says coaxing us to continue our pace. “I should have warned you before, that there might be a chance where some of your memory would return the closer we got to our destination.”

“Well, it certainly started with a doozy.” I said half in jest. “Hopefully if any others resurface, they won’t be quite as staggering.”

As we continue, I try to describe my vision of the destruction of Lions Arch, wrought at the hands of the lost sylvari. The memory fragment remains crystal clear, as if it had just happened. Chicatl remains quietly reflective as I deliver my tale to my memories conclusion.

As if on cue, Chicatl raises his hand to my chest, stopping our progress. I stare ahead in awe. “We have arrived,” is all he said.

Chapter 48 – An Ancient Answer

Chicatl and Ader were ushered into an adjacent room to the Council chamber, allowing her view of the chamber door. He found a chair and gently guides her into it. “I understand a Rangers apprehension at the separation from their pet, but your response denotes a kind of symbiotic relationship very rarely seen.” He pated her shoulder in reassurance. “It will be ok, Youngling.”

Ader looked up as if to face him, yet her gaze was distant and unfocused and spoke as if in a daze. “Oh Professor,” she said affectionately, “I am so lost. In all the years we spent in the Library’s stacks pouring over tome after tome of ancient texts, I knew deep down you were grooming me for something special. The other children were content to frolic and play as we enjoyed our adventures in the stories of yore. You made an outcast like me feel like I had a purpose; you made me a better tengu. But then you died, and I was crushed. I didn’t think I could go on until I remembered what you had once said. You said, ‘Someday Youngling, you will find another; a soul-bound companion who you will share a fate and follow nature’s path alongside you to the ancient truth.’”

“Ader,” Chicatl said quietly, breaking her from her spellbound reminiscence, “have you taken ill?”
“I don’t believe so,” she said, shaking off the haze of confusion. “Why do you ask?”
“You were speaking in what we would call tec`o chiz’pan,” He paused to reflect, “A dream state, I think you would say.”
“What did I say?”
“You referred to me as Professor and spoke of our time together mulling over books in a library. I believe this to be a very important tec`o chiz’pan and with your permission, great importance to the Council’s deliberation.”
“If you think it will help, by all means.”
“Begging your leave, I will take it to the Council immediately.

She nodded to his request and Chicatl hurries to the Council chamber and enters. Soon afterward the door opens again and Midnight comes bounding to my side. The tengu happily grabbed her and give her a hug a bit harder than she may have intended.

“Well you seem no worse for wear,” I say as I check her over from snout to tail. “Are you feeling ok?” I ask, my prior anguish forgotten.
Midnight nuzzles up to me, ‘Prrrrr’ was her loving response.

After a while, the door to the chamber opened and Chicatl beckoned us to enter. We all resumed our places and awaited the Council’s findings.

“Ader Smokewing,” Elder Achcauhtli started, “We were troubled and perplexed by your tale, though your companion has verified that it is the truth.” I look down at Midnight who was tending to some personal issues not generally appropriate at such an occasion. He continued, “we have concluded that we do not have the resources or the ability to address your current or future situation appropriately, so we have decided that you will be escorted from our lands.”

“Achcauhtli!” Chicatl exclaimed in objection but was instantly silenced with the Council Leader’s raised hand.
“Do no overstep your bounds as T’lapiaz`que, my esteemed colleague.” Chicatl, retreated back to his post, admonished. “Please forgive the interruption, Ader Smokewing; Chicatl clearly takes his role as your First very seriously, as well he should,” the Elder said, obviously considering the matter closed. “As I said, you will be escorted from our lands to a place where you will hopefully be able to get the assistance you need in the Druid Vale.”
“Does the T’lapiaz`que have any rebut?” Achcauhtli says, looking to my First.
Chicatl smiles, “No Elder Achcauhtli, the council is most wise.”
“So be it. T’lapiaz`que, escort our guests to a location of their choosing where they may sup and rest for their journey on the morrow.”

Chapter 47 – Council Of Elders

Midnight and I were escorted into the Council chamber, followed closely by Chicatl in his formal regalia. The Council of Elders consisted of eight seats spaced on an elevated dais, seven of which were currently occupied. We walked into the center of the chamber, and the session began. Greetings and formal introductions were followed by a seat delivered for myself and a cushion for Midnight. Chicatl stood directly behind us in his official capacity as my First.

Elder Achcauhtli, the leader of the Council spoke first. “Ader Smokewing, Emissary of the Dominion of the Winds, tell us your story.

And so I began, detailing my entire adventure to the best of my recollection, starting with my waking in the clearing on the jungle floor up to my undignified arrival in the spawning pool yesterday. It was not a long story, but I made it as complete as I was able.

Members of the Council asked some clarifying questions, but unfortunately, I did not have much supplemental information to provide. Once all of the Councilmembers were satisfied, Elder Achcauhtli addressed us.

“Thank you for enlightening us with your personal account. We have a few more questions to ask, after which we will deliberate on this matter and summon you back to deliver our findings. But for now, you and your T’lapiaz`que are dismissed.”
I stood from the chair and turn toward the exit. “Come on girl; time to go.”
“Ader Smokewing,” Elder Achcauhtli calls out. I turned back towards him, listening. “Your pet will remain with us.”

Anger welled up from depths unknown, and as I drew in a breath to voice my protest, I felt Chicatl’s hand on my shoulder. “Stay your objection my friend,” he whispered. “She will suffer no duress during the remainder of the questioning.” A lump the size of a blacksmiths anvil lodged in my throat bleeding acid down to the pit of my stomach. “There is no reason for concern here. If your story was true, Midnight will confirm it.”

Twice in so many days I was being forced to separate from Midnight. I looked from the Council to Midnight to Chicatl, who nodded in approval, and then back to Midnight. She looked up at me with questioning emerald eyes. “Stay, girl.” Is all I could muster, as Chicatl assisted me out of the chamber.

pvp is a joke
wvw is dead ;so are dungeons
fractals are boring .

So , my question is : what do you do in Gw2 and enjoy ?

Hoss: Judging from the tone of your original post, I am not sure that any answer we give is going to satisfy you. But just incase I am wrong:

You didn’t mention HoT so I would maybe start there and see if you like the new map content or the Raids maybe.

Since I don’t do PvP, WvW, Dungeons or Fractals…

I would have to say maybe try everything else. It has kept me busy for 3 1/2 years. Maybe Open World PvE is your thing instead.

Danikat: Granted, it would not pin you down or force you to wait but after this happened to me a few times I think it would irritate me enough to stop waiting for people. Plus, wouldn’t it be easier to just… Not die in the first place

midnight tea: I almost stopped reading at “GW2’s not really a game that attracts griefers in the first place” but giving you the benefit of the doubt. You see GW2 is the ‘Only’ MMO I have ever played so I don’t have a fair comparison to base it on. As far as I am concerned ‘One Griefer’ is one too many.
I agree that it “Comes down to whether it’s worth having anyway or how widespread the griefing would be versus its legitimate use.”
I am just putting it out there as something the Devs should think about if they would consider implementing this function.

“Salvage this weapon to receive its spirit, needed to craft the next tier of this legendary precursor.” It has nice blue writing on it. ( learn to read problem)?

So do you read the description of every item you get? I know I dont anymore, i remember previewing it, but didnt see the description on the bottom.

Regardless, the crafting quest should not be able to screw up just because of some text on the bottom of an items description.

biCentral: I am sorry for your loss, but like I used to tell my players back in the old D&D days…

“You can’t just read the cool stuff.”

I think it fair to say they do put a warning directly on the item, however, it seems you unfortunately chose not to read said warning.

I think this falls into the same category as the people who throw a Precursor into the forge then complain they did not know it was a Pre, but it also says so right on the bottom.

Here is my rule of thumb when I use the MF.

  1. Read every item before I move it to the forge.
  2. Read it again once it is in the forge.
  3. Look at the icons one more time before I hit the forge button.
  4. Ask myself ‘Am I sure?’
  5. If the answer is yes, I hit the forge button.

Is that a ridiculous amount of validation before I forge each item? Absolutely, but 1) I have never forged anything by accident and 2) If I do in the future, its my own fault.

Yes for the fine upstanding members of the community, this would be a nice addition.
However…
For all the Griefers in the game who click on you and say “I’m coming to help you!”, then run the other way giggling, knowing you are just sitting there waiting for them.

Chapter 46 – First Is Trust

After Chicatl, Midnight, and I broke fast we readied for our audience with the Council of Elders. I try to buff up my armor to make the best presentation possible. It is a shame that I don’t have my backpack with the noble attire that I wore to my meeting with the Emperor, I stop dead in my thoughts, surprised at the memory.

‘Wait what?’ I think to myself, ‘Meet the Emperor? When did I meet with the Emperor?’ I wrack my brain in a futile attempt to dredge up something, anything of this sliver of my mist-veiled past.

“Are you ok?” my host inquires. “You look like you are perplexed.”
“I am sorry, I just had a fleeting flash of memory, but it has since faded back into the mist.”
“Well, maybe that is the beginning of your memory’s return. Have you had these flashes of the past before?”

“Not like this,” I think back to my previous jumps between the jungle clearing, gorge campsite, and underground lake. “It is quite the story; I will go into more detail once I get before the Council.”

“We!” he says firmly.
I nod. “We, yes thank you. I am very grateful for your support.”
“That may go without mention. I take my duty as T’lapiaz`que very seriously,” he says, puffing up his chest proudly.
“So what does your obligation as Tlapiazque entail? Will you just be introducing me to the council?”

“No, you have already been introduced to the Council. You misunderstand my feathered friend. My acceptance as T’lapiaz`que is not my obligation, it is your right. I have become your First.”
“My first?” I ask confused.
“Yes, for those who cannot, will not, or may not defend themselves, the T’lapiaz`que assumes that role of adjutant.”
“Defend myself, and from what would you be defending me?”
“That is yet to be seen. Trust me my friend, the Council is wise and will decide on the best course of action for all parties involved.” He paused. “However, I do not know how the thoughts of the rest of the Council or how they will react to your coming, or to your message.”

“The rest of the Council? You mean you are a member of the council? Isn’t that a conflict of interest?”
“Yes, I am a member of the Council, but no, there is no conflict of interest. You see, my role as T’lapiaz`que supersedes my authority as council Elder. I no longer have a say in the council’s deliberations or its final pronouncement.”
“This almost sounds like a trial.” I say, now somewhat concerned.
“Oh, there will definitely be a trial, though not the kind with which you may be familiar.”

Chapter 45 – Search For Enlightenment

Chicatl escorted them into the village, fostering many a stare and hushed croaks from village onlookers.

“Pay them no mind friend Ader, it is just that none of us have ever seen a Tengu before.”

“How then is it that you knew about we tengu, Chicatl?”

“I am one of the enlighteners of children for our tribe. It is my task and duty to be worldly rounded so that I can pass on my teachings to future generations. As one of my specialties is exobiology, I am privy to many writings from the old world, some of which speak of your people.”

“Well, it seems that fate has paired us. I can think of no one better to be my Tlapiazque.”

Chicatl smiles, not willing to note the stumbling mispronunciation of the word never in many score generations, uttered from a beak. “I will be hosting you at my living pad as we wait to introduce you to our Council of Elders. It is there that you can explain why you are here.”

“My story is short and unfortunately mostly shrouded by amnesia. I am almost as clueless about my appearance here as your people would be.”

“Well then, this may prove to be an enlightening experience for all parties involved.”

“That would be most appreciated, Chicatl, most appreciated indeed.”

A messenger had arrived earlier advising Chicatl the Council of Elders would attend to them in the morning. Midnight rested as the two discussed many topics at great length. Ader was fascinated by his illuminated grasp of so many things. She developed an immediate liking for Chicatl as they chatted on well into the night. After setting up Ader with a sleeping mat, Chicatl begged her leave to retire.

Ader settled down for the night, Midnight, like always, by her side.

Chapter 44 – A Friend Indeed

“Easy girl,” Ader said, “nothing good will come of this altercation.” She felt Midnight’s demeanor relax ever so slightly.

She and Midnight were efficiently surrounded by the guards, forming an effective barrier against their escape. There was some unintelligible croaking coming from one of the frogmen in the trees, presumably directives from the group’s leader. She also heard some commotion coming from the back of the group which soon led to the mass parting, allowing by the looks, a noticeably non-soldier hylek to shuffle forward.

Once his gaze settled on Ader, “Croa-ak,” is all he said.

Ader assessed this new arrival. He looked to be a more elderly member of the hylek tribe, which was clearly demonstrated by the obvious respect afforded to him by the younger guards and was dressed more in basic clothing then his leather-adorned brethren. Yet his most notable feature was his missing left arm, which was gone all the way up to his elbow.

“Speak, you do, Tengu?” The elder hylek croaked in broken Old Canthan. “Have there a name to you?”

Not knowing any of the hylek language, Ader decided to give Common-speak a try. “Yes, Elder most wise, my name is Ader Smokewing, emissary of the Dominion of the Winds.”

The Elder hylek croaked something in his language directed to one of the treefrogs above, who barked a command to no one in particular. The guards around Ader slightly lowered their weapons as the Elder hylek reached his right hand forward in greeting and following in a switch to Common-speak, “Well met Ader Smokewing, Tengu of the Dominion of the Winds, I am Elder Chicatl of the Itzel tribe and I am now bound as your T’lapiaz`que.” At the Elder’s declaration, the surrounding guards broke rank and disappeared back into the jungle. “I am sorry there is no comparable word in the common tongue; the closest I can come would be, the one who bears responsibility for your actions during your visit”.

“Well thank you Elder Chicatl. Midnight and I are most pleased to make your acquaintance.”

He looked down at Midnight and nodded, “Just ‘Chicatl’ is perfectly fine thank you. Such a formality of titles is no fertile soil to grow a tree of friendship.”

Ader smiled; she had heard something very similar before. It struck her as something from her long-forgotten childhood, giving her a warm comfortable feeling inside. “Very well, Chicatl it is, let us consider the seed of friendship planted, watered, and blessed by the sun.”

Chicatl smiled and mused to himself, that what she said sounded so much like something his son would have said, may Ameyalli bless his soul.
