Is this a complaint about sic ‘em? Because that is a 6 second reveal on a 40 second cooldown, that’s balanced pretty heavily in the thief’s favor if you ask me.
No, not really as it destroys healing, condition removal and burst all with only one skill, don’t know if that’s ok. And as far as I know the thief has no option whether to dodge it or to notice it has been used on them. I don’t get why this was implemented because if one class has it every class should have it. Ranger’s or engineers aren’t that helpless that they’d need it.
For 6 seconds. Learn to live for 6 seconds by using the plethora of ways provided to thieves instead of panicking and blowing all your initiative trying to stealth.
You really don’t know how to play thief, right? It’s nice that you try to fool everybody by saying “we thieves have this and that”. Sic em isn’t used on CnD or blinding powder, it’s used on shadow refuge which is often the last refuge for thieves and which has got a rather long cooldown. So, there’s no justification as to why two classes have this skill and as to why they are allowed to interrupt (possible) 3 mechanics.
Hint: Don’t run Shadow Arts and your 3 mechanics won’t be shut down….
In terms of Shadow Refuge, cast it on top of yourself and don’t cast it when you’re revealed. If he timed it right, then props to him. Use shadow step to enlarge the gap, switch to sb, … . There’s more to thief survivability than just stealth.

Not sure how I should feel about this thread. On the one side I feel bad for Caed, he was trying to upload some nice duels. On the other hand, I do like drama so…

Fighting through rotations is not a bad thing. Since most of the time a good rotation will kill or really hurt your enemy e.g. Black Powder → Heartseeker → Steal → Backstab in my case or GS #2 → blink → shatter in your case.
That being said, knowing when to use your rotation is even more important. And even breaking your rotation can sometimes throw off your enemy.
In the end it comes down to knowing what your foe can do (his cd’s, boons, dodges) and reacting on that. Trying to save a boon rip for when a warrior has stability or waiting to do your burst chain until after your opponent’s protection has expired.

Because of the enemy comp I decide it is better to switch Thief at beginning, and play as Thief.
Which MMR will be altered at the end of the game (Warrior or Thief)?
From what I understand you can’t switch. If you get a match as a warrior, you need to stick to that warrior. Leaving the match kicks you out and gives you dishonored.
This due to the fact that each of your different classes will have their own MMR. I.e. if you have 10 matches on warrior, you get put into a game were people have about the same amount of matches on their class. You can’t Q as a newbie warrior and the switch to your thief you’ve played for say 500 matches.
I think that’s how it works, so don’t take my words as final pretty sure Justin will be able to answer your question much better.

I want to point out OE that tcg hasn’t lost a game in a single tournament either.
TCG lost a game against Boon in the finals of ToG. As for EU>NA, most top players like Nos and OE play on EU from time to time.

Thief is fine now when it comes to balance. A slight nerf to SA and a buff to other skills such as traps, venoms, …. would be nice, but other than that we’re good.
The only thing that makes thief ‘UP’ atm is the amount of bugs that plague the profession. They just need to fix those.Why does SA need a Nerf? Thief healing and condition removal is already sub standard compared to other profs not to mention thief req a lot more active play. Just make other traits better no need for more nerfs.
Allright here’s how I see it, this is my opinion so take it how you want. SA is too forgiving in the sense that it makes you think less about dodging certain skills and your positioning than say a trickery thief.
E.g. say your fighting a bomb kit engineer and he drops his Fire Bomb, if you run SA you can ‘eat’ that full fire bomb cause you’re about to CnD or BP+HS and clear all those seconds of burning and heal back that damage for a certain percent. Where as on say trickery, you need to either A) dodge out the field and disengage or take the damage and hope you can pressure him enough to make up for the damage you just took.

It would actually, why should thief be the best zerker spec that’s viable in high end tpvp? I would like to see S/D zerker ele and other spec being played too.
Thing is though thief has to run zerker to be viable. Other profs can run Celestial, Rabid, Knights, and zerker aswell. In addition thief is closer to the bottom in current meta so think long and hard b4 you make silly posts like this one.
It’s that mentality why this game if full of bunkers specs. You want every class to be viable with only one spec.
No we want classes to be viable with lots of specs, the problem is thief is forced to play zerker. I would love it if all classes were able to choose whatever amulet/build they want and be viable with it, sadly that’s not the case atm.

What I see after seeing some of them on streams:
1. Listen to anime music and Frozen while playing.
2. Get high/drunk while streaming.
3. Be too young for Esports.
5. Make sure your character looks fabulous.

nerf staff 5that way they can’t just faceroll their keyboards and win all the time. Its still disgusting that when playing an engineer that they can auto win most of the time. Mesmers got what they wanted with the thief nerfs, now its our turn for the necro nerfs.
Nightmare needs to change
Reapers prot is fine, can be counter played
Corrupt is fine
Staff 5 can be more telegraphed, but the effect of it is fine

The big problem is recording usable footage takes a really long time when you’re downed or defeated 90 percent of the time.

Nice to know , I knew for the 1v1 at forest ( thx king of the hill ) but not for the others map , so I’m not the only one who find some things " weirds " or " unfair " in duels . I totally understand and agree with your point , crate included .
But in a other sense , I’m so sick of thieves resetting the fight with Shadow refuge ( imo this skill is not a resetter itself but 6 Shadows Arts with the obvious traits make it ) that I will not throw the rock to the OP by use crate in this situation .
And as you said , its WvW , everything is fair
There are many ways to throw a thief off a refuge. When you are fighting against a thief, especially if he is SA based, you should keep your trump card for when he uses SR. SA thieves usually use Refuge when they are low on HP, so if you have some AoEs you can easily finish him off.
I know this , as mesmer , keep your GS#5 , as necro keep your Staff#5 etc etc . But like crate can be a “Iwin” button if used correctly , like SR can be a " 2nd chance " when used correctly ( talking ONLY when using SA ). Use it when you are so much in danger that some AoE may kill you is pretty much a mistake , especially when you can shadowstep / drop a blind field / dodge in your SR / withdraw and weapon swap and some others tricks for don’t get hit while in . But in a 1v1 scenario , your opponent will certainly not have the tools for deal with it ( on cd etc ) and you on your side can still avoid those counters .
I may look like a pure thief hater ik but i swear i’m not , it’s not my main but I have almost 1200h on it . I really love it , know stealth have counterplay etc . But the force of a p/d thief is the SA trait line , the weaponset itself is as counterable as d/d because CnD lust land for land your damage , pew pew your pistol 1 as p/d will not kill any decent player who know his heal button . The thing is d/d must go in critical strikes for a guaranted damage and needs SA for survive ( and imo it’s the only set who TRULY need it ) . Where p/d and s/d is more about sustained damage so they can invest in trickery and SA and leave crit alone , making them a lot more stronger than a d/d can be . I can be wrong , I’m just sharing my opinion .
I think the OP did pretty good against his opponents , because he knows how thief works , and once you rolled one and play it , it’s like an open book. Sometimes you can same dodge the steal xD
Nah you’re not a thief hater, SA to its very core is broken. There is little to no skill involved in it especially when you run p/d or d/p with it. I main thief and i hate it :p

In my opinion if I compare D/P with S/D, I think D/P is easier to get a hang off than S/D. However I think the skillcap on D/P is way higher than S/D since it uses all 5 of it’s abilities. It has more outplay potential in the right hands than any other spec.
P.S. I’m talking about 2/6/0/0/6 D/P and 2/0/0/6/6 S/D
EDIT: OP, play what you want, if you enjoy S/D more than play that, don’t let other ppl decide what you should play.

I completely disagree with this, I run and have been since ever 2/0/6/0/6, I always lock down 2-3 people at their home, always, they can’t kill me and I’m locking em down for the whole fight, I often end up killing 1-2 players at a time. They re-spwn and come back to try and take home, I feel there isn’t anything more support then this, this makes the fight HUGE in our favor as the rest of my team will outnumber the opposing group. Which is always the best advantage right? Sure, I’m not going to cap nodes but I have teammates who will and can do so just fine.
…Exceeeept that no decent team deploys 2-3 people at home against a thief, especially when the thief can’t even cap the point. What any smart team would do is deploy a bunker of sorts to close and just let him stand there. With 6 points in SA, a well-played bunker can just sit there the whole game while the thief flails around in stealth half the game.
There’s a reason why SA thieves, PU mesmers and any stealth-based builds have no real place besides ressing and denying stomps in competitive PvP.
Exactly if the opponent team is smart, they’ll just keep a bunker at home who can defend the node, while making you useless. You’re only good for a steal every 20 seconds, no way you’re going to kill a good bunker with that spec (at least in a reasonable timeframe).

I still run 2/6/0/0/6 in tPvP, it’s a solid build. As of SoloQ, sometimes you get bad teams, it happens :p no matter what build you run then, you’re not going to carry 4 baddies.
And plz don’t run 2/0/6/0/6 in pvp, you’re neither supporting your team nor capping nodes while in stealth. Your teammates are only going to take more pressure.

People here said that venomshare is a waste because of condicleanse spam in a Blob.
Solution: dont Blawb
In a 15-20ish guild grp that condition bomb can eat trough those cleanses. Especially since the condis are not applied all at once but on every hit. Instant cleanse spam will fail If the timing is good i can imagine some viability there. Maybe even in a party with a condi necro.
Trying new ways is the way those awsome metas get created that will then be copypasted by exactly the same people that conkitten players that take a different approach.
Those Pros that are prolly running S/D 20066 or perma builds atm.
Keep trying and dont let the mob of simpleminded copycats drag you down.

In WvW you can choose what you want, if you intend on running hidden killer i’d say valkyrie. But if you feel like you can handle yourself good enough to drop the extra survivability pick Berserker.
In PvP however you should pick Berserker amulet, since S/D already gives enough evades, ports, … to keep you alive. And should you run sizer’s build your precision would be too low if you run valkyrie.

I lol’d at some of the players you were fighting. You were fighting baddies, which are extremely vulnerable against condibombs.
1. No stunbreaks, would love to see you fight a decent Hammer/Skullcrack warrior, necro with fear, …
2. You rely on your condi bombs every 20 seconds, if you miss them you’re suddenly useless. A well timed dodge, blind, block, … already makes you miss a third of your bomb.
3. This build is amazing in like 2v2, 3v3, … but as stated above useless in a zerg, too much condiclear.
4. The reason you’re build is decent in 1v1 is because condi’s are so powerful in WvW when it comes to 1v1s.

Thief is neither buffed or nerfed, we’re still the same as we were before the big patch. The problem is the power creep the April 15th patch introduced. The fire/air sigils and strength runes allows otherwise low damage, bunker specs to now build up enough might or get sigil procs to compensate the otherwise lost damage.
Nerfing thieves is the wrong way to do it, you’re just gonna end up damaging a class for no reason.
Nerfing strenght runes and sigils is gonna force thieves to go back to DA or CS if they want damage, thus giving up Acrobatics or Trickery.

My experiences of solo roaming the last few weeks are:
1. Someone engages you, starts to lose and then runs into a group of guards and doesn’t want to fight you anymore without the NPC’s backing him up.
2. You fight someone and then get overrun by 2 other people who come out of nowhere.
3. You fight someone, they start losing losing, run away, come back with the zerg and then start to /laugh.
4. Condis and cheese builds all over the place (condi ele myself), still… they’re everywhere!

People give names to builds because of the people who made it popular,
2/6/0/6/0 s/d is “Jumper’s” build
2/6/0/0/6 d/p is “Caed’s” build
0/6/6/2/0 d/d is “Yishis’s” build
2/0/0/6/6 s/d is “Sizer’s” build
Did these people create the build? No. But they were famous enough to make it known to most players hence people refer to those builds by calling it after the player who made it popular.
