Why the bunk meta sucks

in PvP

Posted by: bacon.9461

bacon.9461

I mean the real reason it sucks is its boring as hell to watch. It also indicates pretty terrible balance if bunker and high survive is the only way to play. Because pretty much any bunker can take down a glassy high damage. But not the other way around.

I’d rather watch starcraft for “esports”, and getting to the point where I’d rather go play it than kitten around in gw2 pvp.

Whats a theif? People play those still?

Honestly theif was my first character, but as far as generally everything goes, there is nothing a theif brings that isn’t brought by something else in a better way. I don’t even like mine in pvp anymore….

This. If stronghold was the first and only map I could play at the start, I’d have stopped pvping a long time ago. And conquest is easier to understand when you first start.

Hearts and Minds Story
Fight seems pretty buggy, rifts in mid air. Boss just has a ton of HP and no real meaningful mechanics that I’ve seen so far.
Braham teleporting everywhere…..
Attempting to fly into the air doesn’t always work.
Shielding with the group doesn’t work.
If you do manage to fly you probably get knocked out of the air by a rock without warning, or drop to miss the rock and end up on the ground anyway and die instantly.
If you’re playing with friends and one of you dies they respawn up in a prison and just get to watch.

shrug Doesn’t seem like that much of an improvement over Zhaitan tbh. Sure I got to hit him in the end unlike Zhaitan. But it was a mess to get there.
Step 1 was fun, when I saw the requirements for step 2 I stopped training the mastery line. I’ll probably go back to it for the HoT legendary, but I’d rather make 5 ascended weapons that I can use on a couple characters. than dump that amount of resources into a single item. I could see 5 and 10 required but legendary collections still cater to the 1%. And I really /care to put that much into a skin that quite a few people have after 3 years.

I will probably go do all the step1’s eventually though. >.<

I don’t run it often but every once in a while I do. Ran it earlier this week with no issues. Today I’ve attempted it twice but can’t get past the part right after the torches where braziers are blocking the bridges. Stuck on “Defeat the flame legion reinforcements”. Normally we run past everything and then kill our way back to the first boss. This time we killed at the first boss to send him to his room. Then tried the normal way.

shrug Slightly annoying. I could see it happening once, not twice in a row.

in PvP

Posted by: bacon.9461

bacon.9461

Well yeah. High burst damage from thief / mes / necro + need to hold points = more value in survivability / cc than actual fighting ability.

It’s why they maybe need to make killing on par with point-holding, or simply give us a third checkbox for courtyard-type maps, as they did for conquest / stronghold.

This. That way I can uncheck the box and never have to play the dumb team death match maps. Courtyard is probably the worst map in rotation.

Surely you’ve done some of the dungeons before? I can’t offer a dungeon guild per say; dungeons aren’t what we are mainly about. And then there’s the question of if you’re looking for some hardcore guild that runs in x-mins flat as meta and follows a strict schedule? If not, you might consider Caddywhompus Hootenanny.

We mainly get on just to have fun, doing whatever the people online feel like. Which usually includes at least a couple dungeon runs then whatever else we decide. We’re pretty laid back and not everyone is going to login every single day (I do but sometimes only to grab dailies). So if you’re looking for a place of no judgement for not running meta; feel free to consider us.

Questions can go here, or directly to me on forums or in game. If we don’t sound like what you’re after (which we may not). I wish you the best of luck on your search.

Hi there. My guild Caddywhompus Hootenanny has been rolling with mostly new/returning players for the past few weeks. We aren’t by any means large, but our chat flows unless we’re on TS3. Pretty casual, no requirements, and no guarantee’s we’ll have something going on all the time (life and all takes precedence). However we’re usually pretty active and run a couple of dungeons or run some sPvP, or just group up and run around maps. Filled with members who don’t care what the “meta” is, and everyone’s willing to help out when they’re around.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Good Luck in your search.

P.S. My application process consists of “/w bacon.9461 invite to guild plixkthxbai” under the assumption that people we want to be around will stick around, any who don’t wont. And those that are really bad will probably get removed.

We’re mostly on the Crystal Desert server, but we don’t WvW at all at this point if we do it’ll be in small groups. We do play sPvP every day or two, depends on what everyone wants to do. Fix Black Lion Chests / BL Tickets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: bacon.9461

bacon.9461

A few farmers will get less keys per week and the whole player base gets more from random drops, i dont see how this will impact bl skin prices in a bad way.

So, do you think that the majority of the BL weapon skins are from people buying keys and not key farming? If most skins are from key farmers then this is a serious hit to supply. It takes on average 30 keys to get one skin. Since I sincerely doubt they will be dropping at a rate of 30 keys per player per year, then they aren’t going to be replacing even one competed set of key farming per year. The average key farmers who does his weekly key farm is going to get maybe two tickets a year. The only way that supply isn’t going to be hit is if the main source of skins is from people buying keys, not farming.

Yes, in my opinion, only a small minority of opened chests was from farmed keys.

Then I wonder, if only a small minority of opened chests are from farmed keys, then why did ANet go out of their way to nerf farming keys? Normally companies don’t invest time and money changing issues of small importance to their pocketbook, especially a situation where they had already said that they were fine with people farming keys. To reverse a long standing policy of this nature suggests that there were a substantial number of farmed keys. Enough to impact them financially.

I dont think they did this change for financial reasons, otherwise they wouldnt have buffed the droprate from random mobs. I guess they dont want people to create a character, do the same story mission over and over again and then rinse and repeat but rather have them play in the open world with other players.

And reversing a longstanding policy where they said it’s fine. If the number of keys being farmed like this is small, as you suggest, then the number of people who were doing this is smaller, which means they reversed a long standing policy and spent the time to code this in in order to affect a small number of people. If the number of people who were tied up with this is so small, and it’s not affecting much, why should ANet care enough about it to nerf it?

Because they dont want new players to see this repetitive gameplay as the best way to earn wealth. They want them to experience the full story line and open world pve or other parts of the game.

Of course this is about money – you are naive if you think otherwise. Every avenue in the game that they can monetize is slowly creeping in, and it’s becoming more and more grindy.

And it is very sad that they are choosing to go the monetization route. Because it negatively affects gameplay. Tbh I paid for half of my Living story 2, and I honestly wouldn’t mind paying for that. Outfits I can understand too. And even gathering tools and salvage kits to a point. Bag slots and bank slots kind of push the limit for me but I’ve bought a few (bag slots are especially annoying, and I’ve only bought one because of sale). Then we get to black lion keys, no way in hell am I paying 125 gems for them, hell I wouldn’t even pay 10 gems per key.

Even with the change to keys to make them once a week, and supposibly an increase to the droprate in the world (which probably isn’t enough to make a difference…) I can’t say I will ever buy keys.

1. Too much random chance.
2. Too expensive for random chance.
3. Not in the spirit of gw.
4. Too much random chance.

Instead of players aiming for rewards(black lion key drops)that give a mere chance at something cool, shouldn’t we be aiming our sights higher? Like, asking for drops that are rewards in and of themselves? Why should I want to have a better RNG chance of getting something that also has RNG involved in it? That’s super gross.

Agree’d, before at least the keys were guarantee’d at level 10 story. Increasing their drop rate means nothing to me because abysmally low to abysmally low is still abysmally low. I think ANet has gotten further and further along in the cash shop route as time has gone on. And honestly its a bit disappointing considering what gw1 was for the longest time.

So... what IS the new drop rate of the keys?

Patch Today: Key Farming Impacted

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: bacon.9461

bacon.9461

I haven’t ready all of this topic, obviously. It is 9 pages long. But personally I don’t agree with this change.

TLDR:
1.) If I take a character through level 10 story and level 40 story in the same week I get screwed out of a key.
2.) If I have multiple characters more than likely I get screwed out of a key.

Long:
I don’t necessarily disagree with the block for farming the keys, but it shouldn’t be hard to detect if a character gets deleted at level 11 and remade and deleted at level 11 and remade to block a key farm. But people putting effort in to level multiple characters during the same week, or do story missions in the same week on different characters….

Really you think that decreasing drop rates or making items harder to get than historically possible wouldn’t happen anymore. Considering the last event had issues, then a day later we get slapped with this? Something more or less ignored for the last few years…. I’m starting to wonder why I bought the 100 dollar preorder.

Chests don’t have a good enough droprate to warrant me ever spending money on the keys. Changing how often I can get keys isn’t going to change that fact. That and the fact that keys are far too expensive for the droprate on items worth anything. Basically all this does is increase 1 ticket skins to 700 gold and all the more ticket skins to higher amounts of gold.

So really, either reverse this change and only block the people farming keys constantly. Or just make Black Lion chests/keys even more pointless than they are already. It doesn’t matter to me in the end, I’ve been here since GW1, I’ll probably be here after any other expansions released…. Probably not completely happy and spending money on gems though.

Caddywhompus Hootenanny is a small group located primarily on the Crystal Desert server on North America (however we welcome Megaserver as we tend to avoid ZergVZerg[WvW]). Playing purely for fun, life comes first always. We would like more people that feel the same way to round out numbers and allow everyone more fun and flexibility.

Quick Overview:
Server: Crystal Desert/Megaserver
Play Type: For fun. [Mainly PvE and sPvP at this point]
Play Style: Casual – no obligations
Active Time: Most active during evenings through most NA timezones
Voice: TS3 on Occasion, not currently neccessary
Social: Mostly a small community oriented guild.

Founding Principals:
1.) No person left out. (If we have to split a group to get everyone playing with other guild members it should be no issue.)
2.) Games are for entertainment. (A guild should not dictate how or when someone plays, life takes precedence. Builds outside of meta are welcomed.)
3.) Like attracts like. Everyone will get along and be friends, the ones that don’t feel the same will likely stop representing and leave the guild.

What We Expect:
-Jack kittening kitten.

What You Can Expect:
-Pretty much the same as above.

We don’t plan anything at this point, its up to members to do what they want together. In the future we will likely organize slightly more depending on size. However even organized nothing will be mandatory, because kitten that, in a movie theater I’m not required to sit through a movie a paid money to watch, why is a game any different. I have no requirement to show up. And in a game its nicer because I only paid the entrance fee once to get access to quite a lot of content.

If any of this tickles your pickle, or if you require more pickle tickles feel free to reply to this post, pm me here, mail or whisper me in game.

My Feedback/Thoughts About this event:

Haven’t read every single other reply so likely my thoughts will repeat what others have said in some way or another.

First off, events have always been fun, they are time limited but usually reward enough that it feels like its worth investing the time. Whereas I could otherwise be studying or outside somewhere, or any other number of productive things. GW1 events were something I always wanted to login for because I would get something that said “I was here”, or I could make enough platinum to be worth doing something repetitive.

Granted those events were primarily holiday themed events, even in GW2 we haven’t seen that to the same degree in my opinion. Yes you can probably make money off the hats but honestly it would’ve been nice to see a Ram hat instead of the backpack (and the dragon/lion mask being sold in gemstore). This event makes matters worse by not really giving anything.

1. Tag and leave seems encouraged. Stacks are an issue for all the people DCing. Instead reward based on participation per event, possibly using the Gold/Silver/Bronze.
2. Mobs should drop something. And rarely drop a Bloom. Spending 30 minutes for 30 Blooms doesn’t feel like a good time investment.
3. It would be more interesting if we could get people out of zerg mentality, the events are rather fun with a couple people. But once you get over 5-10 they are just boring.
4. More variety in the individual events, it gets tiresome and grindy when running for events and you end up at the same exact type that you just did.
5. Reward needs to be higher, 5 for 5 stacks, 10 at 10 stacks, and 15 and 20? Sure it probably discourages tag and leave a bit, but why should I spend more than 10 mins completing 5 events and just take the 5+20?
6. Other events stacking overtop, simply annoying because the sidebar fills up quickly with all of this going on.

Personally I’ve always hated zergs (except in StarCraft where they belong), so many of these open map events get boring, I stopped playing so many times during living story 1 that I only played 2-3 of the ‘episodes’ and never really gained anything for it. It would be nice to see an event like this with a capped map, that takes some amount of more strategy and teamwork. I’m thinking like triple trouble, which takes more than simply a zerg auto attacking… people actually have to work together and think.

Did it one last time and I can say that I wont be participating anymore. I get more fun and rewards out of pvping with guildies than I do running this event chain over and over.

This is the worst PVE event ever for GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: bacon.9461

bacon.9461

This event is based heavily on the Scarlet Invasions. It has some arguable improvements (mobs not dropping loot) and some odd design cuts (no end boss?). I think it’s better than it’s predecessor overall and has some interesting rewards. It could definitely still be improved upon (cutting all avenues for players to exploit rewards), but it’s hardly the worst pve event ever, in my opinion.

Mobs not dropping loot is far from an improvement. If they don’t drop loot then that’s one less benefit and incentive players have and waste a perfectly good opportunity to salvage blue, green, and yellow gear we collect.

There was a problem with the Scarlet Invasions that was pretty obvious. When events scaled, all people did was farm champs and ignore completing the map event. The same behavior was present with several other events in the game. Anet noticed this and, most likely, designed the Silverwastes events and other meta events around the idea that you only get rewarded for playing as intended, i.e. completing everything. How do you combat that sort of player behavior while still allowing loot to drop? This solution isn’t perfect but it’s definitely a solution to one behavioral issue. Players still get rewarded at the end of the event and can work toward their goal of buying items from the vendor. If new players want blues and greens there are plenty of other events to go around, but that’s not the point of the event at the moment.

Playing as intended == running around and simply tagging a couple mobs to get a stack then moving on?

Rewards are fixed for me, got 35 blooms on the last event chain, but the mobs are still not giving any XP on death.
Not very happy as at the moment it’s pointless to bring a less than 80 character into the zerg.

35 for how many stacks?

I got 30 toatl for 10 stacks, two chests on side one for +10 tokens, the other +20 tokens and scarlet box or dusty satchel.
