I feel like they need to…

Increase base survival ability and nerf water and arcane to compensate.

Decrease the base recharge time for attunement swapping.

Decrease some skill cooldowns, fire grab is in no way competitive with hundred blades for example but has a cooldown 5 times longer. I’m only experienced with dagger dagger ele, i feel water 4 and 5 need lower cooldowns also.

Balance utilities. Why are all the stunbreakers cantrips? I wouldn’t mind playing a signet auramancer build but i have a hard time playing without a stunbreaker. Does anybody use glyphs? How do the utilities compare to other classes? Is a 90 second cooldown on armor of earth which only effects the ele fine when a guardian can use stand your ground and hold the line on the entire party for much shorter cooldowns?

I wouldn’t know but i think there’s much balance work for this game still to be done, pve and pvp. I hope at some point i can play my ele in the pve dungeons and feel like I’m contributing just as much as i would on my warrior or guardian.

On a TA run one of my guildies gets a rare recipe for exotic jewelry with soldier stats which was very profitable to make so we’ve ran TA countless times to fund his legendary. Now every member in my guild has a recipe from TA and has made large profits off it, except for me.

I have over 10k TA tokens from getting my guildmates rich, that doesn’t even count the 5k or so i’ve spent kitting out alts, still no recipe. Isn’t RNG fun? Not…. QQ.

Add more waypoints to dungeons.

The elimination of res rushing is a great change, imo. However now that its been implemented there’s no reason i can think of that there can’t be more waypoints in dungeons. Having to trek 5 or 10 minutes after a wipe is a waste of time which is no longer necessary with the elimination of “res rushing”.

Every challenging boss fight needs a waypoint preceding it (lupicus) or at the very least dungeons with few and far between waypoints need a few more, twilight arbor is a very good example of this. If you somehow wipe in twilight arbor its a long and hazardous trek back to where you died.

You really need to just fix the corpse taking damage while dead which keeps you in combat.

There are many examples in the dungeons of environmental hazards that damage corpses preventing you from ressing, some of these will also prevent your team from ressing you.

All floor traps that retrigger such as the ones in AC. Lava. In cliffside fractal last night a team member fell on a flame brazier when we died to reset the hammer position which kept us all from ressing (the flame brazier was damaging his corpse) even though the entire team was dead. Lava. Lasers in CoE. Its not really a small list and it isn’t a problem just related to dieing in lava in path 3 CoF. Being in combat even while dead is what really needs fixing.

My team was doing it in around 12 minutes pre patch without skipping anything anyways, now its just going to be a bit mroe accessible to pugs.

This was probably meant to be a nerf for how OP the shield spirit weapon is in pve. unfortunately it makes the others useless as a result.

On a daily basis my group does 3 TA paths, 45 minutes. 1 hotw, 2 CoF, 45 minutes. SE1, about 12 or 15. Sometimes arah 2 or 3 which is usually a half hour to 50 minutes depending on how it goes and what classes we bring.

We don’t skip anything or exploit, if we’re lvling alts we’ll sometimes do 3 AC paths as well.

Alll in all its very lucrative and there’s not much else to do in this game tbh.

The only time you want to bust out your daggers is for single targets, the rest of the time shortbow is much better. Especially considering it applies aoe weakness with 15 points in deadly arts, use smokescreen to protect yourself from all the projectiles.

What class are you? What build do you use? Make sure if you’re targeted by a riflemen to either dodge or stand still they do a ton of dmg to moving targets. You’ll see a red ring around your character when you’re being targeted.

Take at least 15 points in deadly arts and use shortbow for aoe weakness, this plus caltrops for aoe snare is pretty big against trash mobs. Shadow refuge is good for easy resses.

I use a glass cannon dagger build with full zerker armor/jewelry. Mostly shortbow against trash. You can’t pug with such a build though unless you get lucky with a few tanky ppl to stand between you and the mobs.

To be honest i think all guardian shouts should be audible to the team the same as warrior shouts are but if i were only able to pick one then it would be “stand your ground”. This would make it easy for the group to know they had stability without having to check their buff bars and it would also make it easier for two guardians to not overlap stability against the same enemy attacks that need it.

Thoughts? (please be constructive)

Get a tanky crithammer (see guardian forum for sticky) guardian to gather the mobs up with greatsword 5 then just dps them. Its easiest if your dps is 100b warriors but my group has done this with several different comps, you just need high dps.

What.

1) You need DPS, not a tank. That much should be obvious.
2) You are telling him to use a hammer but use a GS skill? Eh?

The best way to do this is simply to mark the high priority targets (Smokelords, Hellstorms, Fanatics in that order) and let AOE take care of the rest. It’s really not that hard unless people start dying for some reason.

Because weapon swapping is so hard right?!?! An even better tick is greatsword 5 followed by hammer 5.

The 1 tanky dude provides perma protection to the 100b warriors in full zerker gear killing everything and takes some of the hate too, making it quick safe and easy to clear the event with no problems.

My group usually runs 2 guardians except for AC and CoF. SE1 you definitely want 2 for the 3 golem fight. We mostly use warriors and sometime a mesmer or auramancer depending on our mood for the other slots, same for every dungeon including arah. For everything outside of high lvl fractals i feel more than 2 guards is redundant and you might as well bring dps for the other slots or a different kind of support like a well necro or auramancer.

That doesn’t really change my opinion that gaurds are the best to have by quite a bit. If i’m joining a pug its on my crithammer guardian who can carry bad pugs like no other character i have (I have 5 80s).

CoF (paths 1 and 2) is so faceroll you should only have 1 guardian, the tanky crithammer guardian. Ideally the other guys are 100b warriors and possibly a mesmer, yet another beef i have on the class balance in this game, 100b warriors far outshine anyone else in the role of trinity 3 for any dungeon outside of high lvl fractals.

I agree with the OP, any team for a hard dungeon should have 2 guardians (or more). The difference in utility a guardian can bring vs the utility other classes can bring is big. My guardian is a tanky faceroll crithammer guardian. Not only can i afk auto attack through half the boss fights in the game i can bring the best projectile protection in the game, i can bring the best aoe stability in the game, i can bring the best condition removal in the game, permanent aoe protection for anyone in range of my symbol plus on demand aoe protection/regen for the whole team (except for the ranger pew pewing off in the background somewhere). List goes on.

What support don’t guardians have that other classes can do better? AoE weakness, aoe blind (my guardian does this too actually), auramancer fury…..? These come from quite specific builds other classes can do where my guardian can do any of the support listed above based on the situation just by swapping a couple utilities.

All while being one of the most tanky builds in the game and doing respectable damage.

My group does all 3 TA paths on a daily basis, as others have said you need to leash 3 while CCing the last one to turn back then kill him. Rinse and repeat. If you want to fight all 4 at once you need to have a strong group plus either plague form from a necro (aoe blind for 20 seconds) or time warp to kill them before they kill you.

You have to have crazy dps to finish this fights as it is now, my group had 3 glass cannon warriors and still took awhile to finish it.

Uh just did path 1 last night and didn’t have any troubles, couple of members got downed a few times on the final boss but thats about it. I did notice some upgrades (adds) from the last time we ran it but it still wasn’t that hard.

In CoF i’d take a crit/hammer guardian and a couple warriors before i took a fluffer guardian. Its a really easy dungeon so the fluffer isn’t necessary at all just more dps. Harder dungeons my teams usually have both for protection and condition removal/healing. Other 3 members are usually 100b warriors either full zerker or part knights part zerker and possibly a mesmer or auramancer depending on who feels like playing what. Sometimes we even have a necro playing support with aoe blind being helpfull on many fights.

This fight is pretty easy to melee if you have a pair of guardians, just cycle wall of reflection, shield of the avenger (very strong here), and possibly sanctuary. The other 3 members of your team need decent dps, focus on the boss.

Yeah they fixed that, a decent lvl 80 comp can steamroll through there no problem but i wouldn’t try it beforehand or in a pug. Do path 3 or other dungeons if your in a pug. I personally think its fine the game needs some semi hard content besides high lvl fractals and arah imo. TBH the 3 golem champions are harder than the beginning unless you skip them and even then a decent comp can full clear path 1 in around 15 minutes most of the time.

A hammer guardian 2 or 3 100b warriors (sometimes we have a guy that like axes) and a glass cannon mesmer is the comp i usually have for this, 10 or 12 minutes for a full clear no skipping.

Lately my group has been using the following..

1 tanky faceroll crit hammer guardian
1 mace/staff shout support/heal guardian
2 100b faceroll warriors
1 glass cannon mesmer

We have big problems with DR on tokens even though we never skip anything so we have to take a half hour break between dungeons.

Clerics isn’t the only thing missing, off the top of my head at least are also Knights and Rampagers. Pretty sure knights is used in a lot of builds, not quite sure why these were left out…… ????

I’ve done this event in CoE story a few times and hadn’t had a problem with it. Well today i decided to do CoE story on my new lvl 80 mesmer in a pug and Mr. Sparkles got downed halfway through the event, we killed the wisps for a good 15 minutes before giving up on him getting back on his feet and decided to find a way to reset it but I guess there isn’t one?

Doesn’t seem like good design to me… does anyone know how to reset the event?

My group often runs 2 glass cannon warriors, 1 glass cannon thief, 1 crit hammer guardian, 1 shout heal condition removal guardian. Pretty sure the thief gets downed more than either warrior but thats offtopic.

I agree with the OP for the most part, our cleave teams clear everything with ease and quite fast. My crit hammer guardian doesn’t “sacrifice” damage, actually does plenty while being nigh unkillable. Been getting quite bored of pve lately for this reason.

Uh my CoF run of path 1 last night took about 15 minutes total for a full clear. We ignore the crystals completely. Still one of the easiest paths in the game, seems no different to me than pre patch.

Really? Did CoF path 1 last night and its still one of the easiest paths in the game, a full clear (no skipping) took about 15 minutes.

This happens to me all the time with the guardian hammer chain. Between the 2nd and 3rd attacks. I turned off the double tap dodge feature on day one (launch day) and remapped it to the shift button.

This bug has been happening to me ever since, if I hold the movement key i used to pick my dodge direction for the duration of the dodge it usually won’t cancel but when it does and i get 1 shot as a result it really makes me rage inside…

In the case of the ranger sword auto chain you’re just SOL, its basically not even possible to dodge while using it. (making it pretty useless btw)

Actually certain auto attacks have the capability to cancel dodge midway through the animation. For example the third attack on the guardians hammer chain. To get around this hit a movement key when you dodge (bind dodge to a seperate key like shift) and don’t let go of it until the dodge animation has ended.

The team I usually run in is something like 1 tanky guardian, 1 berserker warrior, 1 shouts remove conditions full clerics guardian, 1 aura traited elementalist. The last is usually either a pug or another dps focused warrior.

With so much cleave damage you steamroll dungeons and my tanky guardian can indeed “tank” in many situations though the warriors need some survivability to survive cleave and aoe damage.

I’ve played a venom thief for wvw and pve quite a bit, my weapons of choice were pistol/dagger and shortbow. I had no idea dancing dagger was so OP that it deserved a 50% damage nerf. I’m not quite understanding really, maybe Arena Net could explain the logic behind various things they do when they release a patch.

Anyways, the reason I’m posting is this. My thief has always been a very underwhelming character for pve (now more than ever). My damage is underwhelming, my survivability is underwhelming (my gear is all mostly carrion and knights), and my group utility is underwhelming. If I spec for venom sharing which has very poor range my damage becomes even more underwhelming and my character becomes a big liability because I can’t even equip a stunbreaker or group stealth utility skill.

I’m not really complaining I’ve long since stopped playing my thief, the group I run dungeons with daily has benefited quite a bit from this decision. But I also wouldn’t mind if the character were a more viable choice for my play experience.

Glass cannon warrior is very possible in dungeons. I run with one daily on my guardian, I provide the tankiness (and aoe protection) while he provides massive 100b dps. Our clear times went way up since he switched to berserkers from knights, even in arah. Obviously isn’t as good for pugs.

Wow! Ruining this game just 3 months after release?! Awesome! At least I’ll have an excuse to break my addiction to this game. If I wanted to play WoW I would be playing WoW not GW2, unbelievable.
