thanks for the reply colesy. Its perhaps because i dont like the gs much (its strong and got alot of mobility but just dont like the look and the gameplay of it). I just wanted something sturdy to be able to kill champion solo/duo in orr and not always lie on my back in a bad pug group in dungeon.

I never did pvp on a warrior so i dont think it would be a super build out there and i dont think nobody would want a s/s warrior in fractals :P

Instead of removing the pet swap, F1 and F3 should be merged into a toggle button, opening up the F3 slot for more pet control.
true, if the pet is running back to you , pressing F1 send him attack. If he is on attack, pressing F1 call him back to you.
Would be perfect too and that would clear f3

I dont want to lose the ability to switch, i just want one more button to the pet control and these abilities to be on that button.
I thought switching pet was on f3. Since all my buttons are bound on my razer, i dont look anymore on what F they are

EDIT : I Thought that F4 was an unused key my bad. Since i use a razer naga, all my F keys are already bound so i didnt remember. All i want is a new key to control these abilities.
There is some amazing skills in each pets BUUUUT, the AI can often (most likely) will use it at the wrong time, wasting it or losing time doing it when its not necessary.
So my suggestion put that skill on a new button(F whatever) and perhaps for people who dont want to control it, make it like in other game where you can click on it so the AI take charge.
Here is the skills im refering to.
Harmonic Cry for Moa : It heals 3 tick but the moa only use it when it get damaged. Having control over it, ranger could bring some healing when needed, not when the moa take a small hit and waste its time and the heal only for itself.
Brutal Charge from wolves : a proper time knockdown is super useful. An improper knockdown serve no purpose.
Quickening Screech from birds : Super useful when you are chasing a player. When you are against a boss in pve, the birds lose ton of time to put up the screech which serve no purpose and sometime getting it killed in a aoe. Having access ourselves to that run speed, we could use it while running outside or in a movement phase.
Tailswipe from drake : Super useful to time it in a fire or water field and the damage is really not shaby. But its the first thing the drake do! sometime just delaying it for 3-4 seconds i could hit 3-4 enemies or use it in the water field instead of wasting it.
Bite from cats : Hardest hitting attack and it could serve as a burst. Its the first thing the cat do while entering combat, having it on a special button, i could time it with my next signet/sic em giving us a nice timed burst.
Defy pain from bears : being able to time it the bear will be able to avoid an attack from a boss and not waste it on auto attacks where it is fine.
Brutal Charge from pig : Another knockdown . Well time it can play in our hand, randomly done with the long cast time it often miss and serve no purpose.
Entangling Web from spiders : well place immobilize in pvp is crucial but serve no purpose while a warrior is doing 100b.
Tail Lash : pushing back the enemy could make some interesting play to stand on your devourer, giving longbow ranger more time to dps.
So i dont think that this small change would make us OP but it would definately make the pet more useful for me!

I do really like double longsword, shield, axe, bow, rifle, warhorn. I would love a build where i could help my whole group but without playing a guardian since my friend play one already.

4 Bad looking legendary
So for me as a pve-er the legendary is like the end goal of a character (like the big achievement). As an engineer im even more double backstab by the problem with legendaries not getting fixed. You made one design per weapon and like everyone know, nobody will like it 100%. Just take for exemple Quipp. I hate the gun, its annoying, its ugly and its annoying. Its so annoying that when someone in my group use it, i turn off the sound of the game. Im pretty sure that someone out there who worked hard for it is super happy, like it and even find it funny. I would love to find myself a nice legendary pistol too but i dont like Quipp. For exemple i would love a huge BANG maker revolver or a good looking plasma pistol or i dont know, something serious, something legendary. Or like the legendary “Moot” is horrendous too when there is so much good design you could have chosen for a mace in my opinion. Or like the for the bows as a man, i get between a pony bow or a flower bow … seriously?
TL;DR : i would love more choice in the legendary department. Not everyone like Bolt ( i love it) or Quipp, or Sunrise or Moot or Meteorologicus … It would be nice to have 2
choices.
5 Pets in general
By pet i refer as a summoned skill/utility.
Engi = Turrets
Ranger = Spirits, pets
Guardian = Spirit weapons
Elementalist = elementals
Thief = Thieves
Necromancer = Minions
Mesmer = Seem to do ok :P
So as ive read, some of them can be useful in pvp but im only talking about PVE here. My first main was the ranger and often, even if well controled, by pet would get one shotted by a cleave which is a huge dps loss when you are beastmastery. Now i play engineer and my turrets, even if fully talented are really subpar and last one hit in dungeon. Something like a rocket turret which got decent dps got a 50 sec cooldown and last one hit. Something like Thumper who is supposed to have “more health” get one shotted too. I could live with the low life if they were useful.
The problem come from random cleaves and aoes. You cannot move most of them like you so desire, they follow you closely and they sometime have pathing issue making them cross again and again in lava pools or … you know. I dont mind if a turret takes aggro and the boss turn and go bash it but having it get one shotted by a random aoe can get irritating. When you take a turret or a pet, you decide to skip other utilities like Aegis, Protection, Stability to gain a usually a dps/tank edge but they get destroyed so easily its almost ridiculous. I never saw a guardian run spirit weapons in dungeon, i never saw an engineer run a turret build in dungeon, i never saw a full spirit ranger in dungeon yet, now that they have been buffed a bit i see at least the frost spirit.
I pitted today by turrets, tried each, against a yellow deer… Most of them lost. I mean engineer dont take the rifle turret for the rifle turret, they take it for the surprise shot in the belt to activate static discharge… its sad.
Just make them ignore 75%-80% of the aoe/cleave damage in PVE. I dont mind if the boss turn around to go smack it and one shot it. I hate it when my turret is in the back of the boss and get one shot for no reason though.
TL;DR = Minions, pets, summons really need some protection against AOE/Cleave to start making them worthwhile in PVE.
5 Bugs that are still there after this long, even when reported.
So i always report bugs when i see them so they can get fixed. Some that i reported many months ago are still there, why? Like throwing a Flame Blast and it goes through the world and dont detonate by itself for a while, causing you to have to detonate it and making you lose time on your dps rotation. Using the charr toolbelt abilities for hidden pistols and having the pistols pointing toward the sky and shooting from the grip. My class ELITE SKILLS (Mortar) not even even firing shots and when it do, it hit like wet noodles. i mean its not like its a racial, its MY CLASS ELITE SKILL THAT COST 30 POINTS that is totally useless and nobody use. Who have seen in PVE an engineer use mortar seriously? I never saw one! Im not that well verse in other classes to know whats wrong with them but im pretty sure that if i found some on the engineer, there is still some with other classes.
TL;DR : Bugs that were reported a long time ago are still there today and should be fixed ASAP.
So that’s it for tonight. Like i have said, i love gw2, i love the action, the art style, the audio, the story , the races etc. Its a great game. But as a returning player, almost nothing have changed. I dont know if its because they desperately want the game to because an e-sport that the pve side get neglected?

I dont know how to name the post and it wont be an all negative post because i love gw2 and i care about the game. It will be an all PVE post since i dont really pvp. TL;DR at the end of each section.
1 : No new content.
-After returning i was looking forward to try super adventure box. Alas, it was removed. There is so much neat stuff i tried in guild wars 2 like getting all the crystals in the sky event or doing all the arena at the queen jubilee to test my skills. When i talk about it to my friends, my eyes sparkle (like a vampire) and my friends are really motivated to try this out but i have to make them sad and say its gone… Like the current event im not that much a fan of but the next one might be cool. I would just like more permanent things to be in the game. I can understand events like halloween or christmas to be once a year but super adventure box was one of the best thing ever. I would buy a game if it was stand alone just to show how much i like it. So for me its the #1 problem in guildwars too. I cannot be there always as i have health/school issues and im sad when i miss great events. Except some tweaks to classes, nothing is new in the pve world except ascended weapon (that engi dont benefit on kits). So when you return, except for the current event, everything is still the same, i cannot go and do those crazy southsun race or gather crystal on an alt or whatever
TL;DR : so much content i loved and its gone. Now i come back and the game is mostly the same, nothing new to do except the current live event. Need more permanency.
2 Heavy focus on appearance, lack of tool for it.
I dont know how they want to run their game but its one of the most gorgeous one out here. The art style is incredible, the attacks are flashy and the variety in armors and weapons is OUTSTANDING. Sadly you can only wear one at a time. There is currently 2 armors i want out of the blacklion market, the new heavy armor and the magitech leather. Why dont i purchase them? because i already like the look im wearing and spent time farming for.
This is where the wardrobe system should have been implemented a long time ago. One of my favorite system was Rift.

The square you see at the bottom are wardrobe slots. People will say “yeah but if they do that they lose the sales of the blue crystal to transmog”. I answer that by, they just have to make the new system use it! Let me explain.
So you could start with no wardrobe slots (or one) and pay 400 gems to unlock a new one. Then to socket an item in a wardrobe slot you could use a transmutation (lvl 80) stone. There you go, you now sell wardrobe slot and transmutation stone still sell.
Or you can make a system that everytime you use a transmutation stone on an item, you save the appearance (for the account or the character) in an apperance tab, just like the new system in diablo 3.

So like that people will buy TON of stones to save different sets they like and will be able to mix and match without overcloging their bag.
TL;DR : A game based so much on appearance and have no system of gathering/loot hoarding/and wardrobe system? Something need to be put in place so we can store them and be fashion artist.
3 Dissapearing items from the Blacklion market gems
I remember seeing Rox quiver , a nice shield, a mace and a shortbow? Why are they gone, these were popular items, even all these gathering tools or just the copper fed machine. Do you think by making them rarer people will jump on them next time? No! I mean… I made a new character, i would love to have an unlimited salvage kit… you would have made money right now. Even if you get it out next month, will i still be there. I tend to hop on another mmo when i get bored and since gw2 kinda lack permanency ill probably play the time to get a legendary on a new character then hop again. So even if you repost one of the tradepost in the mean time ill be gone and wont follow “gw2 news” and log specifically to buy one. I buy if its there and its not, i skip.
So far i would have bought (if the system were in place in #2)

-1x new heavy armor
-1x rox quiver (again, i got one on my ranger)
-1x rox shortbow
-1x the shield of the norn

i am with you Sir Warriant, i love the Flame Thrower. For most of the content in game you can play whatever you want. The flame thrower damage output is kinda on the low side and is more seen as an utility kit for CC/control.
For pvp its the same thing. People tend to ignore the flame thrower because the main attack is low damage and is 10 tick… which tend to get you killed if the other player have access to retaliation boon.
So yeah, i often play with flame thrower just because i like it, its the most amazing weapon in the game for me but… If you want to do high fractals, speed runs with zerker group or get far in spvp, usually the Flame thrower is not welcome there.
Hi there, been a long time since ive posted on the forum. I returned and picked up the engineer as my main again because i just love having tons of toys to play with, i find the class the most entertaining to play with.
The biggest problem i got with the engineer is the lack of end game with the class in pve. For me the “big accomplishment” is to work toward a legendary. I know its a thing that have been discussed alot so i wont touch too much on that part but just letting know once again that its really sad. Quipp (ugly) , Flameseeker ( guardian ) or predator (hip shooting sniper) hmm… And we dont see them most of the time with kit builds. Not talking about frenzy since 95% (made up) of my time out there in PVE is on land, i rarely go in water so it would be a lost… and anyway i use grenade or toolkit.
Second thing is… there is no point in really hunting for ticket scraps as an engineer. I mean they get out Tons of greatsword skins or back items (and other weapons) every update, which i like but why isnt there something for the engineer? Why dont i get a jade looking backpack when i get a jade weapon? why dont i get a molten backpack when i get a molten pistol etc.
I just feel like we still have those ugly brown charr looking pack. Its fine when you start at lvl 1 and make your way up there but when you get cool armor later on, dying them in fancy colors, those brown charr backpack start to really look terribly off.
Why not make one engineer backpack instead of a different one for every kit? I mean, it would be easier to update with new weapons. Having the backpack changing with the weapon would make me get one of each to change with my clothing style… or at least make them dyeable so they dont stand out out? or just make them toggle on/off?
So yeah, many things i want from the black lion but i feel like its not worth it for the engineer.
Why isnt there a wardrobe system yet in a game that encourage finding armor/weapon look?
Why isnt the toolkit matching the ascended stat?
I really feel like the engineer is left behind in all these new skins being added. There is almost nothing i wanna aim for. No legendaries, No ascended weapons , No armor skin except the one im actually wearing…
Or, they could completely delete the skin & make an entirely new one that doesn’t suck.

Quipp is really annoying. I dont know about pvp because i dont really play pvp anymore but having someone in the party using quipp make me rage for sure. I usually turn off the sound of gw2 and put music when that happen.

Second problem too is that now legendary = ascended but our kit are still exotic quality weapons. So even if you got a legendary of ascended, you still do exotic damage which is (5% less) i think.

its one of my favorite to get in pve.
One i dont like in PVE is the skull for the fear, i often use it far from enemies just to waste it.
i stopped using the one hand sword personnaly. I do like it and i like the damage but the greatsword is not a terrible dps loss over it and you gain WAY more survivability. Ranged block, super long leap, stun+buff to next pet attack, when you open with it the first attack of my pet usually do 4-5k, maul it really hard. I tested it in the mist for a long period of time, of course the one hand sword come out on top in dps but like i said, not by a whole lot. Greatsword offer a better reaction time and more survival in my opinion. But in my build, you just change the trait to whatever you use. Like if you prefer sword, change for the one hand trait, you use the off hand, change for the off trait.
With this build i pretty much do everything and it got me up to the last fight of the queen gauntlet without any problems. Im missing tickets to try her again, only tried her once and she insta gibbed the pet. Every other fights were mostly a one try win without breaking a sweat.
I also did most of the dungeons and almost every path except arah 4 (i think) and barely never touched fractals.
I can solo mostly every champion i come across even on orr(the risen krait necromancer with a circle that give like 5-10 stacks of confusion still kill me though).
The pet does not dodge. It is not aware of aoe circles, and just stands blindly in them. It has no pathing ability to recognise a mine, so explodes every kitten one. It can’t jump on boxes to avoid electricity walls. It’s too kitten slow to respond to a Ranger’s commands for the Ranger to compensate for this most of the time, it doesn’t heel properly (preferring to run around the ranger at about 2m range away) so the Ranger can’t path it through “a minefield” themselves, and even when called back it’ll take ages to actually start moving and then path back in a straight line through every single bit of aoe along the way (there’s no ability for the Ranger to say “scatter/move” instead of “come to me”). Even when calling on it to actually use a skill, the 2-5 second activation delay makes that skill pretty useless (as most of the time it’ll miss). And in some of these fights, there was actually nothing the ranger could do to keep a pet alive and functioning – the limitations of the AI couldn’t be worked around at all (e.g. the electric walls fight).
In “challenging & interesting PvE combat” such as we’ve seen over the last few months, the Ranger’s primary mechanic is to have their damage nerfed by 20% or more for the duration of the fight.
Whether that nerf is due to pet death, to calling them out of combat to prevent death, or simply just due to them not being able to hit a moving target doesn’t really matter – the end result is that the Ranger was balanced around an NPC AI that is incapable of reacting to the challenges that players can, and the mechanic itself is in direct conflict with the desire to be able to provide interesting & challenging content.

Talking only about pve here too.
I was trying the last gauntlet fight against the shadow lady and my build is like 0/10/30/0/30 most of the time when im outside so i decided to give her a shot with the build im used to play.
Wrong! There is no way in hell i can keep a pet alive in this fight. Either its a moving clone or the ground AoE, it take like 5 seconds and my ranger scream “Pet’s down!” Even if i put it on passive, sometime im in the middle of the aoe and i dodge roll in it so i dont get killed by my pet is instantly dead.
Then come the part where she get to attack… she cleave, she 360* aoe twirl, the aoe keep coming etc.
Its not the only boss, like the sniper. The cat get sniped, walk in every mines etc.
I love the look of the ranger class and i usually like pet classes, i like the extra layer of management but here most of the time in Fotm, some bosses and huge event, its impossible to keep the pet alive, even if you change for ranged pet like devourer they still get demolished. Even specced in Beast master to get pet back faster i still do most of the challenging fight without it, losing a huge chunk of dps. All the keys are bound to my razer mouse,i pay attention to my pet, i dont mind blowing my heal to save it but you cant save from an instant one shot.
I dont remember how many time i called him back seeing the red circle under is feet and i see my pet move left to right before coming back, making sure he taste this DELICIOUS AOE DAMAGE!!! and die, limping back to me saying “lol did you see me in that aoe?”.
You know why the developper didnt make a stow permanent? Because they say they dont want the ranger to stow their mechanic and they shouldnt be petless. kitten right, they know that if we had the option, a ton of ranger would run without a pet because the AI is extra crap in PVE. If i had a trait in my trees that would make like grimoire of sacrifice in WoW where you can destroy your pet for a damage buff, i would do so in a heartbeat. I do love the pets, i love having versatilty and choosing which buff or which pet for the occasion and i would love to run with them.
I just finished leveling a rogue, i guess ill give it a whirl.
Everybody proposed a decent fix already to help with the awful AI and what every other game that have a class with pets. An aoe damage reduction of 75% to 90% (depending on the game) FOR PVE ONLY!!!
So either make them dodge roll when an aoe is coming, give them damage reduction from aoe or move even more damage out of the pet and on us so when they die, we dont feel like we lost a huge chunk of dps.
Okay I main thief and have until today mostly sPvPed with my thief.
I rarely encounter HS spammers, and most other thieves that cross me usually end up rather dead.
But lately playing as an ele I realize that a majority of thieves out there really just spam the number (2) button. It’s super annoying and frankly lame. Now I know why when thief vs. thief fight happens I come up on top like about 80-90% of the time, because you can’t really HS spam when your opponent is stealthed, and apparently 80% of thieves out there is used to HS spamming to glory.
Not sure what the fix is without severely gimping the class against other top tier classes (eg. Mesmer, stun lock zerker war), but man I think something should be done about the HS spam. May be further half the damage above 50%, and double when below, to force the cheese players to press some other buttons and not clobber other classes by just pressing one button repeatedly.
Granted I sux as an ele, but no class should be able to beat another class by pressing just 1 button repeatedly.

Hs spammer are mostly easily countered by good player and even if you would nerf this particular ability, they would just fall to the next one to press. Just like the warrior class is full of 2hnd warrior that goes 100b without rooting and dont understand why they cant touch you. Just like you see a ton of engineer pressing #1 with the flamethrower as the main source of damage.
Whatever you buff, whatever you nerf, they will get to the next good ability and spam this one instead. Be lucky its only heartseeker and not FS/LS with ini regen build, stealing all your boons and be un perma evade.

If you want to be competitive in every aspects of the game, you would be better serve as a mesmer to be honest, it is no sarcasm. They do better pve, pvp and wvw.
no offense but you come here asking alot of different build where the main page of the ranger forum is covered with and have a sticky about them.
Define being competitve in a game mode like pve. If you mean because you won’t get sought after for speed clears then sure I suppose ranger is a poor choice because of community bias even though the current fastest cof p1 clear had a ranger in the group. If spotter and frost spirit is the Ranger’s niche then so be it, it’s no different than people bringing mesmer along solely for their utility because it surely isn’t for their personal damage. These forums are filled with people that proclaim how their profession is useless at this or that and how every other class has it so much better, case in point go to the mesmer forum and see what they are saying over there about their lack of presence in high level tPvP at the moment due to condi damage being all the rage. I suppose my point is, every single class in this game is “competitive” with one another in some aspects and the “grass is greener” attitude really should be avoided.
Oh dont get me wrong on this. I main the ranger and i love the hell out of the class. Like you said though, we aint a sought after class and higher level fractal get more and more annoying for us because i could say that half our damage in “most of the specs” come from the pet. Ive notice the higher you go, the easier it is for your pet to get one shotted out of the blue. I take good care of it, i drop my heal for it even if i dont need it, i got passive/attack mode, call back, attack and switch pet maccroed for controlling my pet the best i can and even there, it can die easy which mean losing a huge chunk of my dps.
Its just the way the OP talked about the specs he wanted in different scenario, i just think a mesmer is the better choice. I think a Mesmer compete better in higher PVE environment like speed runs and high fractal, every classes can do any dungeons and such, its not that hard. In roaming i think the mesmer got the upper hand and in spvp regular they seem to perform well as far as i can see from the games i play.
About tournement or ranked spvp, i got no clue at all.

I know dueling can be fun, i do some in every mmos with some friends but most of the time, i dont care for a level max coming near my noob and ask me for a duel to one shot me. Some people can really get annoying with that.
So if this is added, i want a feature that let me not get annoyed by it.
I’m not getting the new armor, and didn’t get the last armor. And the reasons were, even though I liked the new armor I also like my old armor. A lot. I don’t want to lose my old armor and I don’t want to buy multiple sets of exotic armor for the new gem store skins. Soooo. ANet lost my gems both those times and for the foreseeable future.
Give me a wardrobe and I’ll be delighted to buy gem store armor.

I farmed CoF to buy a full berserker armor then i farmed ton of gold (for me it was hard) to buy my human racial 3 (ninja looking) and i am perfectly happy with it!
Now the magitech armor gets out and look pretty cool too but this is the problem.
I would need to refarm a full set of CoF armor to reskin it all over if i dont want to lose the almost 100g i spent on my racial armor THAT I LOVE. Then after that, we are already limited in bagspace so i would need to carry a similar set of armor but with a different look with me all the time?
When you get to the end and try to farm for legendary, you gather alot and some stuff in the bank start reaching 250. It take a matter of time to clog my inventory and now i need to keep a perma 6 slots for look? I mean, there is more then 1-2 armor i love. I was thinking of getting Arah too but i wont, i got my tier 3 racial.
The lack of wardrobe system for me stop me from buying gems on the store to buy more looks and stop me from playing the end game. Why would i go waste a week in a Arah when i cant use the armor?
i love option 2 alot! It would make a purpose of doing them all! Some classes like engineer where it feel like a waste to do a legendary would be ok now because i could use the shield on my guardian too!

If you want to be competitive in every aspects of the game, you would be better serve as a mesmer to be honest, it is no sarcasm. They do better pve, pvp and wvw.
no offense but you come here asking alot of different build where the main page of the ranger forum is covered with and have a sticky about them.
1. This is a suggestion. I have already reported it so I expect a mod to move it soon, but it’s the kind of thing that would have been better at the Suggestions forum.
2. ArenaNet makes a lot of money by selling Transmutation Crystals. Your suggestion would remove much of that money. Ergo, it’s not going to happen.

2. You could still have to fit the look over an existing piece with the crystals, i dont mind. I just want the opportunity to get more looks!
Anyway for the crystals so far i must have been lucky because i had like 20 something (the gray/blue one for 80) before i reached lvl 80 from black lion chests. So i never purchased them.
Ok i log today to find again a new costume on the Blacklion marketplace and it do look really good too but i just paid ton of golds to buy my Tier 3 racial armor and i love it.
The end game of gw2 is about finding new looks in dungeon right? Or did i get this part wrong? There is many gorgeous set of armor that i would love to wear but i cant sadly.
I would buy the new costume from Black Lion market but im not ready to destroy my look or i dont want to farm back more then a thousand CoF token to redo another set of berserker armor just for the look.
So here is two solution for me atm.
Either Arenanet implement what everquest 2 and rift did, a way to have multiple look stored

i just dont buy the look from the Blacklion market, hence more money for me.

You can buy new tab for X amount of money, you drop the piece of armor that you can wear in it, boom.
A couple of things. These builds are kill or be killed. Can be a lot of fun. Fights won’t last long, so lowering your signet timer will rarely come into play during a fight. It is average at best in any 1v1 situation. If someone is prepared…and sees you coming, it is likely going to be a tough fight.
I use it more as a predator style. Roam around on the outside…pick a soft target and let er rip.

Thats why the best way to do a build is to try one out in game, in a real situation. This is the place where you will see what you use, what you dont, what you love, what you hate.

Stealth then use Entangle, they wont know what hit them

Seriously though, it feels like they envisioned the ranger to provide damage and soft support through aoe cripples, snares, and fields. Unfortunately in pve it’s not a useful role when compared to zerker melee trains.
But the thing is, you dont need a zerker melee train always. I pug with my ranger most of the stuff and its rare that i have a “bad dungeon”. I do great dps, i survive well, i res mostly everyone (i run full zerker).
I have been part of a full zerker speed run and yes they are fast but ive been in some made up group that has been “almost” just has fast.
Nothing in this game require really that amount of burst and speed perhaps except high level fractal (i guess im not there yet because i find them boring).
For all i do so far, ranger perform well.
The only thing i hate is my pet dying too fast on some bosses where even with micro managing, i cant stop them from being one shotted out of the blue therefore losing dps.
Just think about it, think about every dungeons (except super high fractal), Ranger can do it just as good as any other classes. Do zerker warrior have an advantage? Yes of course really, is 2 min more on my CoF run make me a piece of garbage? If 2 mins is that important to you, you shouldnt play a mmo.
This is what i use. I started with knight gear to gear assurance and learn dungeon. Now i dont really need survival gear, full berserk is better when you know what to dodge

you are right man! i don’t like to be capable only of 1 thing… i hate to only deal massive damage… i hate to be full tank… but i like to play in the middle: i like to decide when i want to deal damage and when i want to survive at any cost XD
Oh i hear you on that, i love to be a multitool too but the problem in pvp it isnt really helpful for you.
If you are in the middle of the road you wont be able to finish a bunker, you wont be able to live through a glass canon, you wont be able to cleanse away a condition spammer. You need to go in a niche most of the time to be succesful at at least something because if you are just medium in something, youll fail at everything.
The middle ground is more useful in PVE mode.
You need a well timed burst to kill a bunker.
You need quick thinking and/or bunker to survive a glass canon thief (you can counter them with quick thinking and great reflexes but its more harder)
You need ton of cleanses to beat condi spam necro.
But you can always run away too.
Dont forget that im not stating fact, im just stating my opinion and i could be wrong.

ok guys this is the new build with signet of beastmaster
this is a list of changes:
1)added SotB trait and a full set of signets as utilities (SoS, SotH, SotW)
2)removed SoR because with rune of hoelbrak + food i have -60% cond duration and i can use heal skill to remove a great quantity of condition
3)added Moment of Clarity in order to deal more damage
4)added pet’s prowess trait in order to increase pet’s damage by 30% combined with the + 50% with MoC which is something like: 600 base damage (min damage) * 2.2 crit damage + 80% damage = 3456 damage -> very good!
5)sobstituted bear pet with spider for immobilize and ranged attacks
6)sobstituted HaO for Healing Spring… i really like the team support of this skill, the aoe cond removal and the leap combo with GS! (thank you for suggestion)
7)added Rampage as One to better benefits from crit damage and might stacks (combined with runes)
8)added SotW simply because that 25% more damage is… wow (thank you for suggestion) and don’t forget the heal over time and stability!stat changes
+73 power (compared to the first build + food) without food
+56 toughness (with passive effect of SoS)
+11 vitality
-12% crit damageso what do you think about the new build?
and i have only a doubt:
is better to maintain “steady focus” or put on “signet mastery” and lose a 10% damage?
I like this build better but there is one little tiny little thing i would change again.
Eagle Eye for Signet mastery.
You run 3 signet and they are your burst and survival, those are the most important!
The 5% damage is not really noticeable and the extra range is only useful in pve and when helping zerg from the walls and such.
If you fire on someone at 1500 range you will likely miss. By the time the arrow travel to the target, if the move one feet youll miss. Even at 1200 range youll often see misses.
So if you dont really intend to do wall defense or try to stay at max range on events, most of the time, 1200 range is more then enough.
Most of Guff suggestion are pretty on point.
you keep bringing Sharpened edge to make it look more efficient then it is. Like everyone said, you got low condition damage so the damage of it will be subpar but still an increase…. if it stay.
What i mean by that is since the necro buff, the world woke up and start taking up conditions remover way more often. For exemple, most of the guardian i come across in WvW are like immune to condition the way they clean them so fast. Elixir engi cleanse like mad demons too while keeping their attacks up. Necro eat them or just shove them back down your throat. Warrior basic heal/cleanse is on 20sec and remove 3 conditions. But without condition duration i dont think youll see them alot because as i remember, they dont stay there very long.

The proc chance appears to be 66%.
Has no internal cooldown
With a 160 condition damage, it bleed for 51 twice, so for a whooping total of 102 damage.
If you think you will perma attack someone and they will be rolling non stop, please go do some WvW and pvp. People dodge, people become immune, people cleanse, people CC you. You need to crit and on that crit you get 66% chance of applying that bleed. It is REALLY REALLY lackluster with a build like yours.
Even if you are CC, the pet keep on attacking. Even if you are running away or dodging , the pet keep attacking. Even when you are down on the ground, the pet keep attacking. The cats crit alot and 30% of their crit are HUGE when done right. Like people said, prebuff with Soth , send jaguar in stealth and let it rip the guy. Even if your pet die, get CC’ed it will always result in a better damage then sharpened edge in a survival/power build.
Even pet movement speed help them be on target more and keep doing better damage then what SE would give.
Alot of things seem good in Theory and on paper. When you experience it, you often switch alot of things around. Entangle is awesome in a Zerg or cluster of people that dont really pay attention at you. If you fight 1v1 or 1v2, youll often find that your entangle doesnt land.
But thats the great thing about Gw2, builds aint meant to be static. You can switch it on the fly depending on who you will be fighting or where. Best thing to do is not get locked in the feeling of “this is my build so i dont change it” feeling.
But yeah, i agree with Guff, i have the feeling you try to be everywhere and not try to be good at one thing.
So…. ranger damage is all auto attack?
yup, press 1 and win.
The second attack is a leap backward, if you press it again you leap back in. Although it is a tad stronger in damage, the travel time make it less strong then just letting 1 roll on..
The third attack is an evasive roll around the target with poison damage. Since most people using the sword in pve for enormous damage are mostly zerker, this is not worth it as well.
Thats usually why i prefer greatsword overall, the damage is almost the same ( a bit lower) but way more active, got control on my character and decide where i leap etc.
So if you decide to use the greatsword, it still do quite enough damage if you are not into min/max, its not a big dps loss. For me, it just feel more confortable.
The biggest advantage of the 1hnd sword is to be able to decide your off hand for the task i guess. The might stack on the pet can lead to a better dps too.

Your heal skill give you regen and vigor, your pet is just added bonus. Try to do Zephyr with barage and rapid shot or just keep zephyr for stun break. Use rampage for crit and stability.
The new hunter shot will let you put back 10 vulnerability each 9sec and half so you should roll around 20 vulnerability
the survivability come from the stability, near perma regen and vigor in your own pool , double stun breaker. If being full zerker is too hard (squishy). Change from Knight gear with ruby orb in it.
i dont know what to give to title but i like my pets to have name, Juvenile Boar and Juvenile Black Moa doesnt cut it for me.
The problem is i switch often my pets to help me in various situation. Kiting, range, tanking, dps etc. and most of the name doesnt stick. My basic team is the jaguar and lightning drake which both seem to keep their name even if i switch them out.
But when i use lets say the orange moa for Fury , rename him to whatever , switch it out , switch it back the name is gone.
Is it a problem on my side? or is it a common problem?
I tried to give my ranger a chance, and even gave her ARAH gear, however….
Playing Ranger feels like bashing my head up against a wall. EVERYTHING I do feels inferior to every other class (speaking from experience of playing everything else…)
1h Sword feels uncomfortable for PvE, and our overall damage is just too little. We don’t have any decent support, and the little support we do have (Spotter+Spirit of Frost)
The pet damage nerf was worst of all. My panther does not deal much more damage than my bear.
I understand your feeling but for some people, they like so much the theme of the class and some of their mechanic that it is what they want to play.
Like i am not a fan of the warrior and guardian great sword but i love it to death on the ranger.
I just think the class is super cool even if it is not as good as other in niche spec
second part of the post on a different subject.
I never turn down a ranger in my group but just like any other classes, ive seen some baddies. I think that a bad ranger is way worse then a bad warrior. A warrior with a greatsword will come next to the boss and press 100b and win most of the time, the class is pretty straight forward. Its not uncommon that i see a ranger in my CoF group with a polar bear for exemple that died and the ranger stay close to the boss and do longbow auto attack in melee.
I just think it is easier to underperform as a ranger and it is easier to perform better on some other classes like the warrior which mean that usually in pug you get at least one bad apple per group and when its a ranger.. omg it is bad.
Pets are great just have to know how to use them and actually look at their f2 skills instead of picking a bird or something cause I wanna look like a pirate :P
They are great, i love em, just as i love spirits too.
I only wish they wouldnt die that fast OR they wouldnt take their full life in damage one shot like “damage on pet cant excede 25% of their life in one hit”.
I got all the move of my pets maccroed on my razer and even if i really manage it closely, it still die often and sometime because of unresponsiveness
exemple #1 : My pet is attacking the boss which just put an aoe zone on the ground. My pet switch is down. I ask my pet to come back to get it out of the aoe. The pet go to the left, then come back to the right walking plenty of time in the aoe then make a line for me. I call this pattern the “Z of doom”. I recalled my pet when it was full and died while coming back in the aoe (panther). The pathing back to me sometime doesnt behave well enough and the pet stay too long in the AoE even if i manage him. I am not scare to blow my heal for it or to switch him out to get it back to me faster but these things still happen.
exemple #2 : The one shot. My pet is behind a boss, i active its stealth, Rampage, signet of the wild and Sic’em for a nice huge burst and then suddenly, the boss insta turn on it, one shot it and go back to its last target. This is usually bad luck when this happen but its annoying to lose a pet before i could do anything. There was no wind up to the attack, there was no sign he would turn on my pet and basically i would have to be a seer that can see in the future to prevent that death.
exemple #3 : ability super long cast time. MOST of the pet with a toggle take forever to cast their ability, making them vulnerable to interrupt and a quick death from a sudden aoe. I dont mind in pvp that some potent skills like 5 stack of might or fury could be interrupted (although i never saw a player turn to my pet to stop it from casting). But in pve, things happen so fast sometime thakittens better just to avoid the castable if its not instant. I cant count the number of time i had to remake him cast these 5 stacks of might because he got interrupted or the lightning breath because the boss was too far, making me lose all the DPS it could have brought.
So yeah. For a good ranger, managing our pets is crucial but still a pain in the kitten sometime when the game decide it want your pet dead.
If something like cannot take 25% of its life in one hit in PVE
And/Or 50% aoe reduction damage to make them good in PVE and Zerg WvW
If you lose your pet (in most pet focused built) even if you do all your attack and try to be helpful, you are like an engineer stuck on pistol auto attack ( almost joking). Your pet dps is important.
