Tatiana still searches for other Kurzicks hidden within Krytan society.

Name: Danika Lutgardis
Age: 22y
Affiliation: Lionguard
Race: Kurzick
Profession: Elementalist

Danika was born and raised in Divinity’s Reach to Kurzick immigrants, originating from Echovald Forest. After losing her family and home in the Canthan District during the collaps, Danika left Divinity’s Reach . She arrived in Lion’s Arch at age 15, where she was recruited in the Lionguard. Alongside them, Danika spent 7 years clearing risen forces on the ancient trading routes in order to reestablish contact with Cantha, which to this day they haven’t succeeded in.
Danika is a member of the Lionguard navy. Her knowledge and expertise in sailing the Sea of Sorrows have made her an asset in the assault of Orr. Her current occupation is assisting the Pact in controlling the bays of Orr and transporting recources and troops from Fort Trinity to the forward camps and to Arah itself.
As is custom in House Lutgardis, Danika is a strong follower of Melandru, goddess of earth and nature.

Name: Tatiana zu Heltzer
Approximate Age: 26
Affiliation: none
Race: Kurzick
Profession: Ranger

Tatiana’s family was originally from Cantha in the Echovald Forest. A direct decedent of Danika zu Heltzer, her family left Cantha during Emperor Usoku’s xenophobic military conquest that destroyed her culture. The zu Heltzer’s are known to worship their patron goddess, Dwayna. At birth, Tatiana was blessed by the goddess with blue eyes. With her pet black moa, a living artifact from the Echovald Forest, Tatiana seeks to follow the guidance of her goddess, where ever the wind may take her, maintain Kurzick history and traditions, and eventually return to the homeland of her people.

Appearance
Dressed in black and white, typical Kurzick colors. Tatiana wears tight fitted leathers, typical of assassins from Cantha.

History

Youth:
Tatiana’s parents recognized the goddess’s blessing on her from an early age and set her to hero training early on. Being Krytan nobility helped Tatiana acquire the best education available.

Early Life:
On her 10th birthday, Tatiana’s parents had her train in the Canthan martial arts; primarily in the art of assassination. Being born of Kurzick nobility, Tatiana’s parents wanted to make sure their heir would be able to protect herself and others of their Great House. By the age of 12, Tatiana had made her first kill. By 16, she had mastered the art of the silent kill from afar.

Current Status:
26 years old, Tatiana moves across Tyria, gathering information on Cantha, protecting her family, and removing threats to the remains of the Kurzick people. Tatiana’s family used to live in the Canthan Quarter in Divinity’s Reach before the sink hole, and eventual rebuilding into the Queen’s Pavilion. Her family has maintained households in the Krytan countryside; preferring the quiet lifestyle to practice their traditions and arts without the political eyes of the corrupt Krytan Ministers.

As the heir to the zu Heltzer house, Tatiana is trained both as a politician and assassin; both traits require a nimble mind, sharp wits, and killer’s instinct. Currently Tatiana trains herself in the art of assassination while her father maintains the house political ambitions within the Krytan Court.

Protecting her people, is Tatiana’s greatest aspiration… but recently there’s been words whispered on the winds… messages from the goddess that have been leading her away from Kryta and her people.

Affiliations

Guilds and Groups:
Tatiana, while traversing the world in search of the meanings behind the messages from Dwayna, resides within the Ardent Virtue Guild. Only the guild leader, a decedent of the Kurzicks as well, knows of Tatiana’s noble bloodline. She prefers to travel alone, but once in a while she’ll join to aid her friends in the search for information that can protect her family.

Both the Durmand Priory, and Order of Whispers have sought her out to gain her allegiance, but she’s refused for now as their goals would detract from the responsibility to the zu Heltzers.

Family and Friends:
Tatiana’s youngest sister joined the Seraph and went missing on a mission near centaur territory. Currently her goal is the safe return of her sibling, and the death of all those who were involved in her disappearance.

Tatiana’s assassin master is her only other closest friend. Known only to outsiders as, Shadow, he’s kept a close eye on his prized protege.

Personality

Temperament:
Tatiana is extremely charming. She is just as deadly with words, as she is with her bow… able to take a life without being seen. She’s no stranger to fear or death, but like all Canthan trained assassins, she knows that both are her closest companions and may take her one day.

Quirks
Tatiana has a tendency to be cold and sharp, traits she picked up out of necessity to protect herself and her family. She rarely manages to open up due to lack of trust; with good reason when the Ministry of Purity has sought out to remove every trace of her people from both the Canthan continent and Kryta.

If she ever manages to open up to someone and remove the assassin’s mask, Tatiana’s beauty is rumored to be second only to the goddess herself. She has a laugh soft as a breeze and a smile that is as intoxicating as a warm summer night.

Other:
Tatiana still searches for other Kurzicks hidden within Kyrtan society.

I’m the dungeon officer in my guild and I never specialize in classes. I tell everyone who parties with me and they ask what they should bring, I tell them, “What ever class you are most comfortable with.”

I personally prefer experienced over lvl, gear, or “needed” classes. I’ve done dungeon runs with 5 thieves with great success, a party with all min lvl needed characters (i.e. lvl 54-55 in TA exp), and I’ve done runs with all lvl 80’s geared groups…ironically enough the lvl 80’s wipe more often.

Experience rules. If you can play the kitten out of your class and you understand the dungeon…you’re first pick in my book

Seriously, these guys can keep distance, they’ve stealth, deal tons of damage, have area denial and can soak an ungodly amount of damage.

There’s no hard counter to them and even the spirits take forever to kill.

Please reduce nerf either their damage, the spirit health, their cc or stealth.

You also left out that we can: bench press two bears at once, walk on water, shark pets dedicate a week to us, Lyssa calls us for dates, we swim after eating, Ascalon ghosts sit around fires and tell stories about us, we teach Krytan drake hounds to bark in Canthan, we talk about fight club, we grant genies 3 wishes and only a ranger has swum across the Crystal Desert.

HAHAHA I’m totally quoting this to my guild today. Thanks bud this was genius!!

I know there are multiple forums on here about rangers needing more support based updates etc to compete with other classes in WvW; especially in zerg warfare. I just want to post this as in game evidence that we really are disliked by the community because we’re seen as either useless or loot gatherers. We’ve already seen posts of GWLFG with “no rangers” and heard people being kicked out of dungeon teams for being rangers…now WvW? This is super disheartening…

I’m not sure how everyone else plays but when I’m on my ranger, which is my main, and I’m fighting zerg vs zerg, I try to control the battlefield with barrage and piercing arrows to “herd” the enemy zerg into a specific area. I think that’s being useful, but apparently not. I’m also really good at fast capping supply zones when I’m roaming by myself and my pet. So I’m not sure where all the hate is coming from :’(

I already have one sylvari for every class and ranger is the one that I feel best fits my play style…no I’m not just talking about “pew pew” with two separate bows I do play spirit build, bunker, beast master, trap…w.e. the situation calls for…and I just don’t really care for several of the other classes as much.

Anyone have any ideas about what we can do as a class to try to change opinions? I’m not looking for any “reroll you’re kittened” posts or any “We’re a broken class just kitten give up” posts…I’m looking for real ideas that we can do to try to change community opinions.

Thieves as well? I hope this is only for pve and not pvp because thieves are the last thing that needs a buff.

You probably haven’t done much tPvP. Thieves are not all that valuable there. They are mostly good in sPvP against people who are learning new classes.

As for dungeons, thieves definitely need a buff. They are currently the weakest class in that area.

How so? They have high DPS and with mass stealth allow for running groups to get through parts easily. They also have stealth fields to mitigate dmg and apply blind. Idk I’ve just never run into problems with my thief in dungeons, or at least I didn’t notice much…it’s probably just me

I am also excited especially with the trait line revamping that they mentioned. I’ve been getting flustered with my ranger trying to figure out how to balance my pet and my own dps with the weapons I use SB/LB.

Either I max out the amount of damage I can do and make my pet paper, or I beef up my pet and lower what I can do noticeably (piercing arrows/20% skill reduction/Eagle Eye/etc). I’d really like to make my pet an extension of myself without killing my own contribution to a team…what little I do already besides some decent CC skills <3 Muddy Terrain.

Spirits / boons

in Ranger

Posted by: dashin.1025

dashin.1025

This was posted by Shiren.9532 in another thread about spirits and I think it’s great.

“We may as well replace spirits with a viable support set of utilities if they insist the current design is fine. It’s not fine, it’s passive and boring, weak and unreliable and it doesn’t give you interesting or particularly useful strategic tools to use, build or play around.

Make their actives more support oriented, this lets the spirits do what they were designed to do (support) and gives the ranger access to more ways to tap into mechanics they are sorely missing. The passives are also boring and far too weak. Compare them to the vanilla effects of shouts and banners (never mind how they can be traited and built around) and remember that spirits can also be killed.

I’d like to see something more like this:

Storm Spirit: Summon a storm spirit that grants nearby allies a chance to gain fury when attacking.
Storm Spirit (6s): 35% chance to grant 5 seconds of fury on hit. (1m) +50 precision and +10% critical damage.
Effective radius: 600
Effect recharge: 10 seconds
Duration: 60 s
Call Winds: Create a swirling wind that destroys projectiles. Doing this will disable the chance to gain fury.
Duration: 6 s
Radius: 400
Recharge: 20 s

Giving rangers access to mechanics like swirling winds allows them to contribute to groups the same way other classes can (making them more useful during fights like Kholer where Feedback, Wall of Reflection and Swirling Winds save people from his pull, rangers can also help out if they bring this skill). It makes the active more interesting and it makes the spirit more support oriented (these are our support skills, they should be powerful interesting and supportive, not pseudo AoE damage spells). Losing the chance to gain an effect when the active is on cooldowns creates interesting decisions and discourages mindless spamming. The passive bonus which is always active means the spirit will always be helping out in a small way, regardless of which decision you make.

Frost Spirit: Summon a frost spirit that grants nearby allies a chance to chill their foe when attacking.
Frost Spirit (6s): 35% chance to cause chill (1s) on hit. (1m) +50 healing and regenerate health.
Effective radius: 600
Effect recharge: 10 seconds
Duration: 60 s
Cold Snap: Your frost spirit releases a freezing blast of arctic air, chilling nearby foes. Doing this will disable the chance to cause chill.
Chilled: 5 s every second
Duration: 5 s
Radius: 400
Recharge: 40 s

Stone Spirit: Summon a stone spirit that gives nearby allies a chance to gain protection.
Stone Spirit (6s): 35% chance to apply protection on hit. (1m) +50 toughness and conditions on you expire 25% faster.
Protection: 3 s
Effect recharge: 10 seconds
Duration: 60 s
Quicksand: Your stone spirit softens the earth around it, crippling and blinding foes. This disables the chance to gain protection.
Crippled: 2 s (each second)
Blind: 3 s (each second)
Duration: 5 s
Radius: 400
Recharge: 40 seconds

Quicksand currently overlaps with Muddy Terrain. Changing the immobilise to blind brings back some of the ranger abilities from GW1 where we could get blind from throw dirt and dust trap. It also fits in with the defensive nature of the spirit and would be a powerful strategic active to justify losing protection.
Even auras would be better than their current actives.

Change a few of their traits:

Spiritual Knowledge – Spirit bonuses have a 15% better chance of providing their benefits and an increased radius of effect.
Spirits Unbound – Spirits can move and follow you and their activated abilities are ground targeted.
Vigorous Spirits – Spirits have twice as much health and toughness.

Increasing the range of their passive bonus allows spirits to stay out of harms way (unless harm comes to it) while continuing to buff the party. This will help them be useful and survive longer. Ground targeting for their active abilities will allow them to be strategic ans useful, without ground targeting their actives are very difficult to reliably use. Allow us to select where we summon them when initially casting them. Randomly appearing somewhere in front of us can be really annoying, they would live a lot longer if we could summon them behind some terrain like a pillar, a wall, up on a rock or something like that. Without the ability to survive hits through higher toughness and vitality (or AoE damage reduction), even following the ranger around isn’t going to be enough to keep them alive, especially during a boss fight.

Currently, spirits don’t provide enough benefits for the sacrifices you have to make to bring them. Their passive effects are weak and their actives are boring and too difficult to use effectively. Compared with the utilities other professions have, spirits offer weaker and unreliable buffs, boring and forgettable actives AND they are easily destroyed and put on a long cooldown."

There’s only been one other race that has had some immunity to the dragon corruption back when the dragons first were on Tyria; the Forgotten.

There is some speculation that the Sylvari resistance and the Forgotten resistance may be related in some way. Possibly that the Pale Tree and her children are genetic/magical creations by the Forgotten.

The first races were basically brutalized by the Dragons the first time around so maybe the Forgotten created something that could be used as foot soldiers against the Dragons when they awoke?

No I’m not talking about SM.

And sure! That’s an excellent suggestion actually, no sarcasm. I honestly do believe the exp lvl should be removed because I do think that a group that is lower can do runs successfully.

A team isn’t carried by one or two characters, regardless of lvl, why people people are scaled down and yes I am aware of gear etc.

Yes I do honestly believe that in the hands of a player that can follow target calls, knows how to dodge, and understands the dungeon, yes a lvl 31 toon is just as good as a lvl 35 and better then a lvl 80 that doesn’t know what they are doing.

For the level modifier to kick in where you’re character is only causing glances you have to be almost 15 under. I’m talking 3-4. There’s a huge difference and not in regards to your damage modifier.

LVL 80’s don’t carry people through dungeons. Generally speaking the one’s I’ve shown how to do dungeon runs, they are the ones who’s overconfidence gets them killed and the party to wipe.

Dungeon Explore LVL

I really don’t understand why ANET choose to place the lvl number on the EXP mode, when anyone can do the dungeon. I really think this needs to get removed. I’ve had a couple characters complete storymode for dungeons and then be kicked out of groups because I was 3-4 levels below what the exp level said.

People need to get a clue that it’s a recommended level and not a requirement. But as always the lvl 80’s that are now starting to do dungeons think they know better and that because of their level, they are carrying the group.

Dungeons are a group effort and it’s already becoming hard enough as it is to create groups to do storymode…Just remove the exp lvl. It does nothing but create bias when trying to form teams.

On a side note yes I realize 3-4 levels is easy to gain, just go an map something out, but all I really like doing are dungeons.

What about removing Magic Find?

in Suggestions

Posted by: dashin.1025

dashin.1025

This is hysterical

I have an ele who is completely set up with FULL magic find…armor, weapon, runes, accessories…what ever.

I did 7 AC runs today and the one that dropped fastest in the group wasn’t me it was the players that had no clue what they were doing our how to follow targets or even how to follow the group.

I was also hitting for over 1,000 dmg on a regular basis with my fireball. Yes I know I’m basically playing a glass cannon build so I have to rotate my attunements regularly and stay back, way back.

In all 7 of those runs, I received no golds, as a matter of fact several of my teammates did. I honestly think people on this thread are freaking out about absolutely nothing. Yeah my elementalist I have to play skillfully because her stats make her basically paper in dungeons and god forbid I take her to WvW, but I have gotten more golds on other characters then I have playing with her and in these dungeon runs more often then not I was drawing agro as well because no one knew where to go.

If there was any “unfair” advantage that I had over other players in regards to loot I have yet to see it and all I do are dungeon runs. It’s the coordination of the team that means the team will win or lose…and if you think having more “combat” appropriate stats on armor etc will mean that you’re going to romp and stomp dungeon enemies…think again because more often those people are noobs that don’t follow target calls, over agro, and cause party wipes that lead to rage quitting.
