Wow some really shocking reponses so here is a follow up question. Most of you clearly have dropped onto alts or moved to something different what have you moved to I want something fast paced and mobile and I dont find a good mix with that on revenant shiro is fun and all but its kinda dull especially with the whole energy system I find it clunky. I like versatility and the chance to go bunker if i want as I said previously also why is shortbow still just a gimmick weapon?

Hello I am looking for a class that requires a fair bit of thought when doing all content I recently rolled revenant and i liked the mobility but i found it kind of stagnant with weapons and builds. I was wondering how versatile is a theif I’m not looking for only x build is meta but overall is there a fair few that can be played around with?
How do they faire in WvW and Pve?
What roles can they fill? And is it generally daredevil or bust? (I kinda like bunkers)

Gw2 keeps just crashing randomly for no reason i am just dropping out randomly for no reason just happened during a event logged back into a different phase. Is this common my system specs aren’t bad i can run WvW fine and teq but it just crashes randomly.

I am planning on wvwing mainly and i want something to slip into zerging but i will also be doing general randomness with a friend so something with a tagging capability and some variation. I just don;t enjoy the ranger abilities espeically the slot skills the four pet ones we get are so meh to me. And the engineer kit asthetic is a deal breaker for me.

Hello i am after a fun class in gw2 i have had a 80 necro ranger mesmer and a ele and am looking for something with a high skill cap and i am stuck between guard and thief or just sticking ranger out the only problem with ranger is lack of builds i enjoy and the slot skills being dull.

Any suggestions for builds etc and i found mesmer was so far as you are literally there to serve others.

Hello i want to know what peoples opinions are on ranger or thief i want to be in the big fights i have tried my hand at all the others and have a 80 necro 80 mesmer 80 engineer and a 80 elementalist and i just don’t find them enjoyable anymore (used to love necro) so i was wondering if people could tell me how rangers and thiefs fare in WvW not roaming of course and what roles they can run in WvW.

I haven’t even built for roaming and have solo’d numerous rangers, thieves, mesmers and warriors on my necro who is built for zerg fights. I think it’s hard to tell whats good at roaming as loads of people suck at roaming if i can beat them on a wellomancer zerg build (and im not that good) then how can you tell what is op and underpowered. Personally i think in the right hands and against average people all classes can roam some are just better at escaping.

Thinking of leveling a ele are they decent in WvW or are you a utility bot like mesmer i am trying to see if any class is as fun as my necro but with necro the only issue i have is lack of group utility but i wonder if the trade off is worth it? I mainly zerg.

If we do get torches i want a lantern skin for torches. Also maybe maces just a decent power ranged weapon as staff is more of a mix at best.

What’s the best zerg build for mesmer is it glamour confusion? My guild i lacking in them for GvG but i spend a load of time with pugs so i was wondering if anyone more experienced could suggest builds with a link preferably.

Bumping this again. All these back skins and i have to lose them all to be viable either make non kit builds viable or let us hide them.

What about something like gs #1 doing splash damage on hit it’s all a tagging game you help your team and have nothing to show for it atm.

Yeah i find that all i hear on ts is veil from the commander then im done for the fight. It’s a rather bad state to be in compared to my necro where is marks wells charge in with plague gg.

Just wondering if they are as bad as people say all i do is WvW so it will be mainly for that can you be effective in zergs etc? I currently have a mesmer and a necro so i have been the best dps and the worst dps in zerg fights. I do prefer bows is SB with traps still viable also? I would try lb but i always found that sb had a load more to offer.

Yeah but i just feel like a utility slave its nice being a team players but at certain points i feel like a pet or im just there to serve others theres no reward for yourself for being a teamplayer and helping rather than me going on my necro spamming wells and plague and getting loads of loot etc. What i am saying is it’s a thankless job.

You have a point but also normal damage does not get capped if im hitting a boss or using wells or corruption skills on my necro theres a point where the stacks burn down rapidly whereas if 5 players hit me those hits are going to hit the same no matter what. My point is one form of damage you can build for has a cap the other does not both cannot be treated the same as they act differently. Also it would affect diversity and we would see only berseker. The issue is not damage it is lack of cleanses. I am talking for only WvW here as imo spvp is very different and badly done.

Hi i played a mesmer for around 2 weeks at 80 non stop and found that apart from being a utility bot i was useless in big zergs am i playing this wrong or is this the norm i mean i tried changing builds but all illusions just die instantly chaos storm is a joke of a aoe also.

Ever thought of desolation? I just returned maybe 4-6 weeks ago and all the commanders and guild seem to get along very well and ts is very nice and friendly all the time. Also we are not doing bad in WvW and que times aren’t that bad we normaly have 2/4 of the maps with ques if its the weekend or peak hours.

Don’t they go for the customers known as “whales” i think thats the company term unsure if so, anyway they go for people who want everything off the gem store and have the cash to spend on it. Personally it does not bother me i do pay every now and again as im happy with the game it could be better but all mmos can be and supporting what you like is a thing i think you should do if you have the means.

personally entering is like being on a character and you can spend ages getting valour etc but have nothing to show of it outside of it in LA or WvW if you got skins you could only get from spvp to use in pve and WvW then i would be interested or some variety in spvp.
The reason WvW is so much more popular is the diversity you can make yourself and the group fights sure domination is balanced for competitive play. But to get more people interested you need other game modes/larger fights for non arena and tourney players to enjoy. We have seen anet make good maps with high pop in mind WvW now apply some of it to spvp.

Rewards for scouts and people who attack keeps via trebbing etc but don’t get the bags.

The damage is not as good as a stun breaker or a general lower cooldown especially if you are playing defensive. As ranged ofc.

From what i posted its worse than the mesmer blink in many ways so I don’t understand why it wasn’t made to be on par?

Why is lightning flash on a 10 second longer cooldown costs 5 skill points more without it being a stun breaker like blink is?
Also blink benefits from I in dueling to increase range and III in chaos to reduce cooldown. And we get regen and might and cooldown reduction on cantrip it just feels a little strange? I’m new to ele so if i am missing something or being ignorant let me know. But i found the stun breaker on blink on my mesmer good for WvW in getting out of zergs to heal.
If you take the reduced by 20% for each you get 32 second cooldown vs a 24 with a stun breaker i know lightning gives damage but i don’t feel like its equal with the 300 extra range on mesmer blink also.

I’d like to see Longbow how many classes can use it 2 illusionary arrows would be nice and a long bowman it would be a nice compliment for GS i think personally.

I was in the same boat as you for 2 weeks and i am having a blast on a engineer love the variety and you can play literally every role and can solo anything better than most classes.

Also bombs, flame thrower, Grenades, Turrets, rocket boots.

Engineer you can play every role in the game and if you go bomb kit and run around with a warrior chasing you he is in for a nasty surprise. If you use all kits you have 5 weapon sets including your own and healing. So much variety so many explosions.

Only issue is ugly backpack.

I love how a load of posts are saying well warriors(the broken class) have great mobility so why shouldn’t we. I do find it annoying when i get jumped they pop cds and ultimates run away heal come back rinse repeat and some classes cannot catch thief running sb etc. And comparing a mesmers 1 tele that to a thiefs 1 when they have multiple in cases both but theif a little more is a little stupid what do i know im just a simple engineer.

I get annoyed that some classes can bail and survive or hunt you down when you cannot do either lol rocket boots for example.

Also give thiefs a bulky option it would be interesting to see more bulky thiefs.

I play a sylvari got cultural gear and weapons and then i get a kit on boom looks stupid as hell just let us have a toggle on or off for back/backpack items to know a ele stand you look at the buffs and it’s casts/abilities same can be done to engineer surely.

Bump only thing im not enjoying about leveling wheres my motivation to grind nice back gear it’s not like we can run turret builds or anything anyway we have to use kits. I am forced into looking bad.

What i enjoy is getting bomb kit going spvp getting these face roll warriors and running in a circle dropping bombs and watching the chaos if that isn’t fun i don’t know what is some of the kits are better than what people make out. If a melee is on you get bomb on and run and drop it works very well i find against your average idiot.

Tbh i from my little experience playing have found a few positives:
No signets
Great variety F1-F4 keys with racials is always interesting on a sylvari anyway
You can be a annoying tanky healer
Great damage from kits lets you use utility weapons and slot skills
Tank build + elixir gun + healing turret = annoying.
The cons :
Ugly bag
Ugly bag
Lack of mobility options in slot skills
A few utility skills being bad but it could be worse it could be signets

But if these are a few problem i have myself it is better than my mesmer or elementalist i find as a engineer you can be the wildcard class and very unpredictable a load of classes have cookie cutter builds, I feel like i can build what i want with this class.

As nevir said it’s stupid burst that is not difficult to set up or balanced on classes like warriors i’d rather op classes get nerfd than decent/average ones get buffed.

Are turrets viable in spvp and pve leveling etc? Or should i stick to a bulky bomb build with other slot skills?

I use sharkoon fire glider if you want a cost effective (it’s cheap) it has two keys i use 1-5 normal and then keybind shift and ctrl to the thumb keys then i set it up as slot and healing shift+1-5 and ctrl as my roll and i find this effective and easy to play with.

I went with necro as i prefer the weapon sets tbh I am running dagger and staff going vitality for healing/life siphon as I do a load of wvw any suggestions for a tank/regen build and a good off hand for necro.
Also iIused to have all the classes bar necro and I don’t think the weapon sets on mesmer suit what I would have liked to have done

How do they faire in spvp wvw and pve atm? I am stuck between these classes leaning to mesmer but i have returned and i like illusion/shattering with sceptre can someone offer guidance?

Hello i am returning to gw2 after a break from the game and i could do with some advice i played on desolation before and i am not looking for a insta-win server but i want one that has a good WvW team/attitude and a healthy amount of spvp/tpvp players can anyone direct me to a server? Thank you

I am using the wolf and jungle stalker what do you guys use and why?
I am just curious about other set ups and improving my pvp mainly.

What about salamander drake impossible to get it’s f2 off in pvp or a devourer which has the special ability of pulling everything you avoided?

i shouldn’t have to play a certain class do well which is handicapping me and i don’t understand how anet can brag about variety and meta gaming when a lot of classes don’t synergies as well. And having no control over a cats knock back makes your point mute. And i have no idea what a ingi is.

I could do that but i would be sub par to a guardian it’s like taking a knife to a gun fight. I just don’t understand how they can claim there is all these builds and a vast variety when there is only one formula to win theif guardian mesmer. Also on a side note i think it is a little unfair if you don’t bring a mesmer to kyhlo you cannot win if they have one.

The problem with tpvp i find at the moment is that mesmer guardian and thief are the top 3 classes as from my point of view the other classes cannot compete in filling there roles in tpvp as well. From a rangers point of view i do not see myself filling any role as well as the other classes. I think some classes need a little love to bring them into line, the top tourney teams i see winning are always 2 guardians a mesmer and a thief and another damage dealer. I will proabably get a lot of hate from mesmers guardians and thieves but do people feel the same and if not why? Would someone like to shed a little light on this matter?
