Oops! Excuse me while I hide under the bed in embarrassment. Salvage kit works.
Thanks.
Tried to salvage a stack of shards but no right click options except destroy or deposit. Tried by simply clicking on one but nothing happened. Tried with three alts (who have been in Lake Doric) but no luck. Exited game and tried again – nothing. Am I missing something here; do they not work like similar mats? Nothing showing on the bug tracker so maybe it’s just me?
I use a Logitech wireless F710 with my desktop. Specifically configured by me for GW2 with the bundled software. Works fine for everything I do – but that does not include pvp.
I rode for 20 minutes and felt rather poorly and had to quit. I also find the raptor very difficult to handle using a controller. It is amazingly twitchy and almost impossible to make right-angle turns smoothly. I will play with sensitivity settings but am not real hopeful. I have been using a controller for four years in this great game and have had no issues until now, so I am quite disappointed. Maybe with a slider….?
Done and done. Thanks
Oh, it gets worse. I destroyed all the power lines and the shell did not drop. Is this design or bug? Only Anet knows.
The forced shift to the 64bit client (now revealed in the patch notes) was the culprit. Fixed.
This may not affect many people but I have been using a Logitech F710 on Win7 for three years without a problem and it no longer works at all since the patch. It will launch game but that’s it. This is not a problem with the controller – I have two of them and have tried everything.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: that full xp bar every time I look down says " hey, buddy, you’re done." It just hastens the day when I say yep that’s it for this game. Bad bad psychology for retaining customers.
Ssssssshhhhhhh!
About 20 times. I keep four mains and have six others that are just passing through their brief virtual lives. Level them, equip in a nice set of exotics, and then delete in a month or so. Not a good way to get rich.
Yep. Rollback, too. Just lost nearly one-half level on low level character.
Agreed. I thought it might have to do with the bug that caused the lost general settings on each exit, but that seems to be fixed now.

Not a bug, I think, but design. I naively posted a similar complaint about Tyrian masteries in the bug forum but a couple of players kindly pointed out that it was probably working as Anet intended. You can bank xp only up until the point where your bars are full and no more.
I wonder if anybody at Anet has designed, or even played, an RPG before because they’d know this is just terrible psychology for a gamer. Sitting with a solid yellow bar across the bottom of the screen and knowing it is never going to progress in Tyria is annoying the kitten out of me. It really says “hey buddy you’re done.”
And on another point of psychology, seeing the bunny rabbit icon on the character screen every time I change alts (for having only one point in PvP) ain’t doing much for my self-esteem. But I’ll live with it.
I need one more for the collection. Have a ranger camped in Dry Top full time and do the events two or three times a day and open maybe 4 chests each time. Been nearly a month since the last one and no end in sight. Just one more, O Fickle RNGod!
I see no need for a level 500 chef because all the new recipes since dry top ( ithink) have been account bound and the food produced has been account bound. What’s the point? I only have 8 alts and they can only eat so much. I do not understand this decision by Anet. Would the economy collapse if we could sell some food? Is there some inherent difference between cactus fruit salad and mango pie that makes one marketable and the other not? I just don’t get it.
No. I expected an expansion, not a different game. I don’t much like HoT but feel I got my money’s worth. What we got in terms of changes to the core game was totally unexpected, however, and I just don’t want to play it as much anymore. Once bitten, twice shy.
Yep. The number of contested way points on such convoluted maps is just ridiculous. Maybe there should be an NPC scout at each entry WP to say “Sorry, sonny, ya just can’t get there from here.”
@Laya for me it has been drop to desktop (mainly yesterday). Today much more serious full-blown hangs where I have to use the task manager to shut the game down, and tonight I have had to reboot twice to ensure stability. There are also losses of visual effects in-game. Seems to be getting more serious as time goes on and I think I’m going to bail out of this game for a while.
One-and-done objectives like HC’s are already a real problem. Most champs everywhere in the game can be beat solo – given enough time – but putting a timer on some of them means they can’t be done without a small group.
Could we please have an acknowledgement, Anet? This is kitten serious for a lot of us. It would be nice to know you are aware and are working on it.
Win7 64bit. Default client. Never had crashes before. Four or five in a row. It settled down then and I was able to rebuild VB central camp until minutes to nightfall. Then dropped straight to desktop. Lost all the work, all the xp. Pretty much had it with this game.
Thanks for your response. I chose legendary line. It maxed out and shifted automatically to fractal line, Now it won’t shift again. The result is that I am now not advancing in any line because, yes, I am out of Tyria mastery points, I suppose that I could get a point by doing something like the last two achieves in Teq or killing 50 karka babies in LA, or collecting spoons or something but I don’t think I should be forced to do specific tricks (immediately! drop everything else!) to gain ANY xp. I am a journeyman player with 10.5k AP and 37 mastery points spent and I know how I want to play. Are we to be denied ALL xp if we don’t play the game specifically to get mastery points? Very strange. Your question suggests the answer is yes, and it is very dismaying.
I absolutely agree, OP. I thought the HoT rollout was a brilliant technical success but it is becoming increasingly clear that the design is over-ambitious, inherently buggy, and confused. The radical redesign that Anet was reaching for has been achieved at considerable cost to the core game. We should not be surprised though; Anet has always put implementing change ahead of repair and maintenance.
I spent all my Tyria mastery points and completed Pact Commander. I now have both the Revered Antiquarian (legendary) line and the Follows Advice (fractal) line completed (1,270,000 xp). The game did not choose a secondary line for me and I cannot manually do so because all lines are locked and I have no points to spend. Experience is awarded in the open world but it is NOT shown as being credited anywhere. The wiki says “Any additional XP earned will be applied to another track in the same mastery category.” but it apparently isn’t. I don’t know whether this a bug or whether it is intended but, either way, it is pretty much the final straw for me if it isn’t rectified.
6. It’s beautiful and reasonably hard but there’s way too much confusion for me. I have unlocked all the way points and got a bunch of mastery points but I feel like I stumbled (or glided) onto everyone of them by accident. If I was a lab rat trying to get to the cheese in the centre of these maps I’d die of starvation.
I spent a small amount of money and effort to build up my guild. Poof, it’s gone. Welcome to the new corporatism – you don’t own it, you never will own it, your license guarantees nothing, and we can therefore do whatever we want and you are required to put up with it or abandon your investment. And so it goes.
I’ve been playing open world for so long (nearly three years) because this game has been so generous to alts. It has been trivial and fun to level a new character and try out new equipment, specs and combat techniques. HoT has reversed that whole game philosophy. I regret it, as this has been a great game, but I just don’t have the energy or motivation to unlock the elite specialization on eight characters.
I may not be the best fighter in this game, but one hard lesson learned is to never stand still. I can force myself to stand still for skill 2 (and I think it hits okay) but I don’t feel like I can really kite with the other skills. I’d rather keep my mobility up with a scepter/focus so there’s not much point in this new weapon imho.
I have this problem on my guardian and necro. Both are 2-year old characters. For me, too, it seemed to start after the bug patch.
Good answer, Bunji. I have played some of those console-imports and understand the concern.
I have been using a Logitech controller with 19 functions mapped to Logitech software for 2 years and 9000+ AP now. I wouldn’t pvp with it, but then I don’t pvp. My hands and wrists aren’t great and the controller is easy and fun to use. Why does it upset others that the OP would ask for that support when it just another option which doesn’t prevent anyone else from playing just the way they want?

I was getting five to eight AP every day while having mild fun in Dry Top, SW, or Orr with top level characters with top level gear. The 10k chest was in range. Now I’m supposed to stand around in a swamp waiting for an oh-so-scary Behemoth, or maybe kill lvl 8 slimes in Metrica Province. I’m not gonna do stupid pet tricks, so the chest is no longer in reach and my desire to play has slipped to the point where I am just senselessly logging on and off for the daily reward. The trait change, the daily change, the lack of expansion, and the appalling lack of communication is becoming too much. All very personal, I know… Not being a good little metric, I know…
I’ve been using a Logitech F710 for two years now. Works fine but is not as accurate as a mouse/kb. You can do the jumping puzzles but I wouldn’t plan on doing PvP. Works great for open world combat. You’ll need to map the keys but it’s not hard.
I was looking forward to transferring my ascended GS between three alts who could use it. But when I went to install the second newly-permitted sigil I was warned that the weapon would become soul-bound. Will it? Was this intended? One hand gives and the other takes?
A logitech contoller such as the F710 (which I use for GW2) comes with software which will allow you to swap movement to your right hand. You would have 8 buttons and full 360 degree movement. Slightly slower and a fair bit less accurate than a mouse/kb but I have played every aspect of the game and have 6 lvl 80 characters.
I just quit exploration at 95%. Will never get my gold star. Ticks me off but it’s obviously my own fault for not being a good little metric.
This game has been superb value for money and I would be happy to pay for an expansion. I am not going to spend real money on the vanity items the gem shop is full of, but significant new content would open my wallet instantly.
The WIKI describes this discovered crafting item with given stats, and as soulbound on use. In fact, because it is an Explorer item the stats are set upon double-click. More importantly (to me at least, having just crafted two for sale) this should be described as both soulbound on use and Account Bound. This is actually a WIKI problem but I can’t figure out how to change it and I thought someone else more skilled could maybe do it.
