Want the human female animations back

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: havellian.4073

havellian.4073

How can this be a ‘bug’ – the programming for every character is probably controlled by a series of procedures with certain events triggering animations. When a character is at rest it will after a predetermined time go into a animated loop of actions to give it the appearance of life. The code is the same for every character so it’s hardly a bug now – as the only difference would be a animation which has to be ‘called’ and ‘executed’ to provide the required effects. Why not simply tell us ArenaNET that (as has been suspected) your Asian releases have been scrutinized and pretty silly complaints made. If there is any truth to this why not simply check for country of origin for any given human female character and prevent animations (if allegedly you feel that strongly about it) or allow them. Personally, I will admit that this is suspicious but this is the 21st Century and what possible harm or offence could anyone in any country take? I mean, it’s not exactly the ghost of Michael Jackson grabbing his nether regions now, is it?

I like how people find a way to blame some asian country for all the problems in their lives. If there is a source that notes the change was due to China, I’d like to see it. Otherwise your allegations are just a lazy attempt at finding a scapegoat.

On topic, animations need to come back if only to provide some variety to the boring every couple seconds look right > right > left loop. It baffles me why anet chooses to continually remove things that people liked about the game.

In addition, the running animation change needs to be addressed. Why does my character feel the need to run like a robot. She does not have huge bulging lats, so why does she have to carry her arms out so far to the sides while running? Would be curious as to Dev reasoning for change

It’s the Twitter generation. If you can’t compress an idea into @100 keystrokes it’s not worth trying to read or understand. These are the same people who go to a restaurant, spend 20 minutes taking pictures of their food and posting to social media, then complain about the service because their food is cold.

These are people who are so caught up in narcissism that they can’t even understand that they are responsible for their own problems.

So much truth, although sadly it seems they are a sizeable portion, if not the majority of who GW2 is trying to appeal to… hence the focus on facebook and twitter communication. I’m happy they are starting to recognize the official forums more.

Is the RNG system truthly random?

What I am about to say, in the view of most will almost certainly be an anecdote and probably worthless in the eyes of statisticians… but for what it’s worth…
Everything (slightly) rare i’ve gotten have come in doubles and triples. 3 crystal guardians while opening champ bags, 2 mini tequatls, 2 foxfire in one tree, etc. etc…

Of course I hardly get anything rare and when i do, it turns out not to be very valuable so this is not a good sample at all, but at least based on my experience, the system certainly doesn’t seem all that random. Anyone else experience something similar?

I’m not trying to compare devs or imply one is better than the other, but I think what John is doing in the economy thread is kind of what people are asking more of. A loose Q&A with their respective area devs where they get a chance to ask questions, get answers and make jokes at each others expense. I’ve seen other devs here do it in other threads but the economy thread seems to be the longest lasting one of it’s kind. Its not a perfect thread and not every question is answered, but it is a fun thread and it’s provided some great interaction. Personally, I think economics is a pain and uninteresting, but I’m enjoying the thread and reading what he’s saying.

So maybe if some of the senior devs are so inclined they could start similar threads for their own areas?

Edit: Also, this thread where you’re giving us a back and forth discussion is also a good example.

Respectfully disagree. The BLTC forum from what I’ve seen is just one big, self-congratulatory conversation, where people who have differing views from the majority are shot down with snarky, condescending remarks from the economist, which are then fervently echoed by his cronies. What follows then is comments such as “John for PRESIDENT” and “I love it when he does that!”. Very productive? I think not.

Please do not emulate that style tyvm.

Dont touch the combat that is the best part about this game the thing they need to touch is the balance of skills no the combat.Combat is incredibly fluid and responsive and non other mmo or rpg or mmorpg have combat as good as this 1.

no other mmo? Ever heard of Vindictus or Blade&Soul? Heck even Tera has a system closer to real action combat. I don’t get how people think 1 dodge button revolutionizes mmo gameplay….

New asura faces (are you kidding me?)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: havellian.4073

havellian.4073

Just took a detailed look at the new faces. Most are a copy pasta of one existing face template with 3 “new” face patterns applied across them. Human, Norn, and Sylvari have this for female and male (2 templated faces), while asura have only 1 face template and 6 patterns applied. Surprisingly, only charr got 6 different faces modified. Idk my charr faces very well but some might actually be entirely new. Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but is the asura face new as well?

Do You Enjoy Massive Zerg Content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: havellian.4073

havellian.4073

I don’t like zerg content but don’t see a way Anet could be rid of it. They wanted open world bosses. Usually in most MMOs a group of people tags a boss and it’s theirs so there won’t be a huge zerg but only the guild who “tagged” the mob. Anet wanted to avoid the griefing that comes with “tagging” so they made the bosses scale. What we end up with is “Hey, everyone is welcome” big huge cluster-bleep zerg…… any ways to solve (other than instancing) can be directed to the suggestions thread

Why has female running been changed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: havellian.4073

havellian.4073

Here’s a little bit, which was found for me from some other helpful players. I was specifically looking for running animation that showed the problem with the sheathed staff (and ‘after’ posted above your link).

I’m not sure if there’s enough there to get an idea concentrating specifically on the run itself, however.

Thanks for the video. I’ve seen this from the post above in this thread but it is for norn. Upon testing I don’t notice much difference with my own norn but the human animation does seem substantially different vs. before the change.

Why has female running been changed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: havellian.4073

havellian.4073

Does anyone have an actual video of what the animation was before for female humans? ?? Would be infinitely more helpful than just expressing dissatisfaction.

Edit:
Tested further and find myself agreeing with those who don’t like this change. Makes the running a lot more squared and stiff feeling. It may be appropriate for some characters (strong warriors with lots of muscle mass) but perhaps not for the more scholarly that use more brain than brawn?

Recommendation: Would be awesome if Anet let us be able to choose our stride as it’s very much connected to character customization and how you want to present your character in the world. Some may want a stronger character while others would like to portray a more physically weak one. I could see this have a larger impact on the RP community.

I agree OP. most my posts are comprised of snarky/trollish comments largely voicing displeasure at many of Anets failings. This update gives an indication that Anet is actually listening, making skins directly purchasable and gathering tools acct bound is a step in the right direction. So many complaints about this in the past… it’s sad to see that when it’s actually time to give credit where credit due, the community is largely silent. There have been a couple threads but most are pushed to page 2 after little posts of appreciation.

Why are we still getting single use skins?

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: havellian.4073

havellian.4073

It’s about money, the whole soulbound item status boils down to money, soulbound items don’t benefit the player in any way, they benefit anet by making players grind for things on alt this means they “play more” which means they are logging in more, logging in more and more likely to buy gems or generate gold inflating the gem to gold value which encourages others to buy gems to sell.

actually, I don’t agree with this. Soul-bound items is largely a mechanism to control inflation. By making items soul-bound (non-tradeable) you are essentially removing currency out of the economy and setting up gold sinks (ie. if alts want to have it, must repurchase). Largely necessary and indirectly beneficial to the playerbase.

Single-use skins do boil down to money, but its basically money from purchase of transmutes + storage panes/bag slots/chara slots for pack rats.

How GW2's Gem Store works

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: havellian.4073

havellian.4073

Yeah, I go to restaurants and just get a glass of water because the food is too expensive. I can make dinner for $2 or even less if I don’t even balance the meal. Why should I spend $10+ for a meal?

While I understand the reason for this thread, this particular comparison is off. I didn’t pay 60 euros to get a glass of water. The model is not F2P, there’s an entry fee to playing.

It’s more like being fed McDonalds every day (e.g. armor skins introduced at launch), and wanting something different for a change (e.g. new armor armor skins, each set of which was introduced through the cash shop).

^This

Also, the “better in the long-run” thought process is only valid under two assumptions:
1) Cash shop is Anet’s main sustain and that without it, GW2 would be severely lacking in new content, updates, bug fixes, QoL improvements, etc and may be under threat to shut down

2) Anet will pour extra profits (or at least a good majority) back into the game to make it awesome… aka REINVESTMENT

Some hold these assumptions as gospel, but there are those that don’t agree. I’m sure NCSoft wouldn’t be ecstatic about #2

There is also the issue of worth. Some don’t neccessarily disagree with the gem store, just with the prices (they don’t want to pay nothing, just something THEY consider more reasonable). Others would like to pay for their cosmetics but not through what they would consider “dodgy” practices like RNG box.

It’s not a straight up, “it’s a business so it has to make money and we will be better for it in the long run” type of answer

Currency Exchange Inflation

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: havellian.4073

havellian.4073

High price for gems is a win-win for anet. A higher price will invariably make more people consider buying gems instead of spending gold for cash shop items = profit. For the people still willing to spend gold, they use up more gold on conversion and usually purchase gem store items which are soul bound = greater gold sink.

Win-win for Anet, possibly lose-win for players. Lose because things are more expensive, win because better gold sink = keeps inflation in check

Nerfed Champ Bags/Boxes ?

havellian.4073

I’m surprised they are not reversing this as they did with the Karma nerf for a brief period to let people open their boxes. This is pure speculation but after experiencing the Karma nerf, I can only think that anet knew pretty well there would be community backlash if they did not announce nerfs such as this ahead of time. The fact they continued ahead without announcement only leads me to believe that was their plan to begin with. They obviously have data on people who keep stacks of boxes unopened in their inventory… the data may have pointed to a large number of boxes unopened still

Good job on Heavy sets though, yes including female set.

Just to clear up some future debates, that is the Nightingale armor from Skyrim.

And the Nightingale armor would look amazing in GW2… they seriously need to come up with some new armor concepts instead of recycling the same coats and pants crap.

Skyrim got their kitten right while designing armors.

No kidding, I could sit for 5 hours straight just looking at the armor in Skyrim because of how detailed they are.

Are you serious, I can sit for hours looking at Skyrim’s armor without finding anyone looks good. Just needed to browse armor mod to have all pieces of armor modded. I love elder scroll series but seriously every game have to download player made armor skin. LOL

please, link an armor of your taste so we can understand what you mean… maybe you like flashy wow armors (AKA Neon power rangers) or anime naked godlike looking armors?

So because he doesn’t agree with your taste he likes “neon power rangers” or naked anime? Real classy. I can easily make an equally condescending remark that goes a little something like “You like skyrim armors? I can already tell how you look irl and it’s not pretty” See what i did there? What’s in the quotes is just to illustrate how your remark can come off as.

Actual bug: as described above in post by Passiflora, this is still the case with this face. I do not recall it being the case when i made a character on launch day using the same face

And in today’s example of shoddy and lazy design; the heavy human male helmet clips with the chest plate. Armor isn’t even in the game yet and it is already broken.

Also if they aren’t going to ever let us go to Cantha I really think they should stop with the Asian themed armors. (just get a big eastern vibe from the medium male) No I don’t care that they are releasing in the most grind friendly region of the world soon and want to give those players something they can shoot for that suits their cultural tastes.

The armors are horrendous its true, but what does that have to do with Asians?
If you genuinely think they look “eastern” you really need to get out more and learn more about the world. That is all.

I prefer sexy than skimpy but I also very much prefer cute over sexy.
I wish Aion team would design and model a few armor sets for GW2

Quoted for so much truth! I prefer fashionable over all else and that’s where Aion excels. It incorporates street fashion with fantasy so well and proves that you don’t need your boobs hanging out to be attractive >.>… In GW2, you’re either a walking refrigerator, swimming in trench coats, or wearing strips of material glued to your body…

Preemptive: I think Tera armor is quite garish but you have to admit they got both females and males showing similar amounts of skin. Yay for equality xD

Your gaming background? Love/hate GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: havellian.4073

havellian.4073

Experience:
Hmm this topic is fun~ Started with dos games like sky roads, the original prince of persia, and the Jazz Jack Rabbit. Around the same time; almost every single shareware game probably including whacky wheels, hocus pocus, commander keen 1 & 2, arctic adventure, crystal caves, monster bash, bio menace, almost every game from the then Apogee (aka 3d realms). This was played concurrently with a lot of educational games (gizmos and gadgets, treasure math storm, munchers, jump start series). Progressed to first generation fps games Wolfenstein, Doom, Heretic. No consoles save pokemon on gameboy pocket! Stopped gaming till I found GW1 which I probably played for 4-5 and popped in and out for an additional 2 years. Moved onto Granado Espada next which was beautiful in terms of world and clothing design, but tragically grindy and RNG hell… After another hiatus from gaming I tried Vindictus which was honestly my best mmo experience in terms of gameplay. The combat was engaging, fluid and intuitive. The clothing was also exceptionally designed. Alas…ruined by the infamous Nexon. Dabbled in Dragon Nest …(Nexon, all that needs to be said)… Finally played Aion for a few months before coming to GW2. Aion featured probably the most exquisite clothing designs of any game I have every played (not gear from 1-50… but beyond). Their quest stories were also tremendously well written. Alas, the gear treadmill and grind…

What I think of GW2:
The environment and world is beautiful and wonderful to explore. The hidden areas are a nice touch and the persistent world > instancing. However, in most every other facet I feel letdown. Of course there is the now admitted to vertical progression (if i wanted that I’d be playing Vindictus). However, even more so, I find the armor designs to be distasteful and not very fashionable, and the character customization to be limited… Combat is spammy and un-engaging (not to mention zergy). The stories are dull and the lore abandons almost all of GW1’s established lore in favor of dragons (…because dragons are apparently “cooler”). Not to mention the gems → gold. Dynamic events were a nice but failed idea to me as escorting caravans in every map doesn’t make me feel like I’m part of a living breathing world. Overall, GW2 = lots of potential, execution was lacking.

Anet 2.0 & The Manifesto

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

havellian.4073

I am on the side of the camp that believes the Manifesto is still correct and that there is no gear treadmill in this game. You don’t even need Exotics to do everything. Are the new Ascended pieces more desirable than the exotics? Yes, they are. Do I need them to complete all the content in the game? No I don’t. Are the Legendary weapons more desirable than exotics? Yes, they are. Do I need them to complete everything in the game? No, unless you are talking about some achievement points and you do need them to complete that achievement.

Sorry guys, that’s not how gated content works. You have the option to choose between having them and not having them.

Tabby, this is not even a discussion about gated content really. Like I’ve stated, it really doesn’t matter how prominent or minute the stat increase is. The mere implementation of a single item with increased stat at the level cap already goes against their sentiments on gear plateau and not “grinding to be more powerful”. Again, in “grindy” games, you could do raids and be dead on the floor constantly but still have had “completed” the content if ppl are allowing you in their groups. No gear is really necessitated, but it’s made to feel like it by other players who act this way because the mechanics of the game encourage them to do so.

Op needs to realize this swings both ways. For all the “We HATE YOU ANET” posts out there are a slightly lesser but still sizeable number of “YOU ARE ALL KIDS, QQ MOAR, IF YOU DONT LIKE IT JUST QUIT” posts. Op also conveniently ignores the fact that many dissatisfied posts started out fair and constructive till one of the self-appointed Anet advocates decided to engage them with inflammatory statements. If you don’t believe me, take a look at the “how many ppl visit forums more than play the game” thread where most are not even criticizing but just stating their current play status and why they do not play as much anymore. Then you have the random white knights who go in and say something like “ALL THESE PPL WILL NEVER REALIZE THE PROBLEM IS IN THEIR HEADS”… dismissive and condescending no?

Now tell me, if your friend asked you about their new jacket and you tell them you actually like the older one more… they proceed to respond with “shut your face your opinion doesn’t matter, my taste is better” how would you react?

Lastly, as some have mentioned, how can the Op be discouraging personal attacks and hateful posts by telling a good portion of people to “grow up” and that the worst thing to happen to the game is them? It baffles me how the Op even thinks he is qualified to tell anyone to “grow up” without knowing anything about their personal situation.
