int randInt return.3280

Crafters [CRFT] wants people, new or old (very new perfectly fine), who may or may not actually be interested in crafting. We do a bit of everything: PvE (open world and instanced, including raids when they become available), SPvP, and WvW, though for WvW, we’re generally more in the Anvil Rock server. English preferred.

We run guild missions on Sunday nights 7 PM Central/8 Eastern/5 Pacific, but are fairly active around daily reset time and several hours after each night. Our missions are open to non-guild members, as well, if you just want to jump in temporarily for commendations and/or loot.

We have TeamSpeak available, when needed. We also have a variety of bad puns, but they are probably not as useful as TeamSpeak. Willing to help people gear up, raise crafts, and learn the various dungeons.

Will an average player using exotic gear be able to do all the new content (and old content, higher fractals aside because they’re largely scaled up versions of doable lower fractals) and continue to be effective in all modes of WvW?

6/23: Why is Ascended gear getting stronger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: int randInt return.3280

int randInt return.3280

Let’s use math to explain how silly you complainers are:

Current Exotic Armor Stats:
315/224/224
Exotic Armor Stats + 30% (Projected):
410/291/291
Current Ascended Armor Stats:
329/235/235

Ascended Armor Stats, Exotic+5% (Projected):
431/306/306
Ascended Armor Stats, Exotic+10% (Projected):
451/320/320

The difference from 5% to 10% (what everybody is all worked up over) is about 20 main stat and 14 off stat. Not that big of a deal…

Just to be sure, the difference people are worried about isn’t from old ascended to
new ascended, it’s from new exotic to new ascended.

So we’re going from this gap:
Current Exotic Armor Stats:
315/224/224
Current Ascended Armor Stats:
329/235/235
(14 main, 11 minor)

…to this gap:
Exotic Armor Stats + 30% (Projected):
410/291/291
Ascended Armor Stats, Exotic+10% (Projected):
451/320/320
(41 main, 29 minor)

Current gap is small, ignoring it and using exotic won’t hurt your gameplay.

With this change, if it’s real, and I’m actually still not sure it is at this point, it’d be 41 to the main stat and 29 to the minor stats. Exactly how big of a deal that is is still certainly arguable, but it’s bigger than the gap was before, and much bigger than the gap you’ve mentioned.

Because of this, there’s a serious worry that those using exotic gear (due to either not playing as much, or having changed builds to try something else out, or having changed builds because Sinister suddenly became the top DPS spec instead of Berserker’s or some such if that comes to pass) will have a significantly harder time in the newer content.

I guess the ultimate question is this: Will using exotics still be fully viable to the average player in WvW and the new PvE content after this patch? If so, I guess I have no real complaint worth pursuit.

6/23: Why is Ascended gear getting stronger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

int randInt return.3280

Yeah, ascended was initially (grudgingly) accepted by many players because it was a minimal and generally unneeded increase in stats over the easily-obtained exotics.

Just increase exotics so the numerical change (or possibly percentage change) in stats from exotic to ascended is the same as it is now, and we’ll be fine again.

Otherwise, this is breaking one of the major points of this game for me.

Guild Wars 2 April fools 2015 [merged]

Entire soundtrack replaced by the same songs sung acapella by the the dev team. Poorly.

On every NPC, next to the relevant facts explaining what the target does, add one to three irrelevant facts, such as “Vegetarian”, “Alto Saxophonist”, “Dropout”, etc.

Crank up the rate of the utterances the player characters, NPCs, and other sources (such as Job-o-Tron Backpacks) say so that one is guaranteed to be said every time possible.

Misplace mob types randomly throughout the game world. (IE: Separatists in Orr, Mordrem in Ascalon, Sons of Svanir in Kryta…)

Give everyone the perpetual effects of at least one comedic legendary, randomly selected on every map load. (Quip, Dreamer, Moot)

Translate all in-game text (in English, at least) to “Bork! Bork! Bork!”. Probably skip the voice acting.

Replace a bunch of the voice acting with random outtakes for the same line.

Switch the voices of player character types randomly. For example, a male human may spend the day speaking with the voice and lines of a female Asura.

Replace junk/trophy drops that are of no practical value with “fake precursors”, which have orange names, but are sorted like and behave identically to normal junk items. They may have misspelled names as well, such as “The Legand”, “Zip”, “Spork”, or “Tooth of Firstfang”. After the gag ends, possibly either convert them into corresponding normal junk items, or don’t, and leave the fakes in just for amusement’s sake.

Replace world bosses models with models of developers dressed up as those same world bosses. Have those developers’ voices replace the vocal sounds ordinarily made by the world bosses.

Have every NPC in game with the appropriate animations available dance continuously whenever idle.

Make the visible dyes on every character completely random, regardless of the selected dyes. The randomization can be redone on every map load.

Make the visible armor and weapon skins on every character completely random, regardless of the selected skins. The randomization can be redone on every map load.

Spawn the wrong world boss at every world boss event. IE: after destroying the Dragon totem at the Frozen Maw, the Karka Queen wanders up and tells you to “Face the wrath of Dragon!”, then fights you with the Karka Queen’s normal moves, but level scaled for the Frozen Maw event.

If you can’t change the 2 week schedule on new releases, you can at least lessen the problems related to them. Make them stick around for few cycles into the next set of LW, and make them smaller but more interactive (with players and with the other content).
This has probably been said before, but I’m just adding one more post on it to show to whoever is able to change it.

My overall thoughts:
1. New content should be permanent or at the very least recurring.
Successes: TA Aether path, Tequatl, Invasions
Offenders: Flame and Frost/Molten Facility, Aetherblade Retreat, Crown Pavilion/Queen’s Gauntlet(?)
2. Old content should be permanent.
Successes: Most standard content
Offenders: TA Aether path vs. TA forward/up, arguably Tequatl.
3. LW and its events should be acknowledged throughout the world.
Offenders: Flame and Frost (Dredge and Flame Legion elsewhere never mention each other at all), Invasions (the rest of the map essentially ignores the invaders)

4. LW should enhance standard content, not draw people off of it or outright replace it.
Successes: To an extent, some parts of Cutthroat Politics (do events in Kryta/Ascalon), Tequatl Rising (arguably, but unarguably regarding most boss updates)
Offenders: Clockwork Chaos invasions, Crown Pavilion farming

5. LW should use characters we already have, more than introducing more of them. We have a whole world of NPCs that could do stuff and show up in more than just their one event. Make Keeper Jonez Deadrun do something with his insufficiently explained knowledge of rituals besides cleanse (fail to cleanse) the Temple of Grenth. Make the Ulgoth do something with the centaurs he leads besides die in a single event in the corner of a map. Make Destiny’s Edge members, probably individually, show up as more important characters in the LW.

The main issue: players want to farm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: int randInt return.3280

int randInt return.3280

Increase Dynamic Event rewards to where they exceed farming… it really is that simple

Why?

People would still farm. Instead of farm by killing monsters, they would farm Dynamic Events. -snip-

Partly true, but only if you don’t look beyond that. DEs next have to be managed (can be automated) so that popular farm DEs get lower rewards, while unpopular ones get their rewards raised (just reality: supply and demand of heroes ).
-snip-

(Snipping in case this discussion drags on)

Agreed on this. Getting players into the DEs would be an improvement. But, to further break the whole rotation thing, go back to something mentioned (and dismissed) in the original post, the bonus reward being for unique DEs.
But, not some limit per day, aside from, well, the number of unique DEs in the game. This breaks any reasonable rotation and encourages spreading throughout the map.

Farmers will continue to get more stuff in general by doing more DEs more often and using event map websites to do so more efficiently, but players who don’t want to do mind-numbing tasks will still be able to get an income of high grade materials for making the fancier items or for selling. And, of course, maps won’t be so dead.

Farmers will farm, so let’s put their shovels, sickles and plows to good use making the world more populated, and at the same time make the income for the non-farming players better.

Also, I suspect that the reward balancing for events could be automated, just by checking which events get done (successfully) more often. Just adjust it on the daily schedule. Heck, you could even make it server by server, encouraging guesting on lower population servers.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: int randInt return.3280

DEs has to be more rewarding.

“What are you doing? The Routation is 1.Bandits at Windmill , 2.Giant Worm 3.Drive the rogue bull back home 4.[Crossing Waypoint], you Kitten! report send!”

Per unique Dynamic Event success per day. No more rotation, unless you somehow stretch it to last 24 hours. Instead, go out into the world, find events or chains of events, and call them out. Maybe make event locations visible from further away to supplement this.
Then, be sure that it’s reasonable enough of a reward that it’s worth actually going off to find events randomly rather than just focusing on rotations of other things for direct drops from enemies.

Farmers will find the most efficient way to get money. Focus them into making the overall world less quiet and making dynamic events, one of the neatest things about GW2, more fun and worth doing in general.
There are enough events around to keep all but the most hardcore of farmers busy.

Difficulty Balthazar temple! Nerf plz!

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: int randInt return.3280

int randInt return.3280

The Veteran Risen Subjugators seem to be the new problem.
On the central invasion path, we fought one en route, and one thing it does is spawn 5 or 6 rather large DoT wells that last for a large amount of time (mostly disappearing just when thing dies).
One thing is that they don’t necessarily cast it immediately, so prioritize finding the subjugators and taking them down first.

We were trying this last night with about 9 people on the Rally Waypoint escort and we found 2 times that they spawn at that I can think of.
The first time is when it spawns 2 at once, on I think the third wave, on the right side of the path. This is 2 waves before the noble swarm spawns behind the NPCs.
The second time was a singular one on a wave later than that, not quite up to the temple steps.

Once we prioritized finding and spiking down the Veteran Risen Subjugators first, we were actually doing pretty well. We ended up failing because of a combination of A. not being able to get more than 1 path to finish before the NPCs decided to start the even on their own, B. the NPCs getting pelted by the statue and some weaker DoT AoEs, and C. not noticing an acolyte/ravager group quickly enough.

One question: As far as I can tell, the paths all go to their next phase automatically without any real way to coordinate them. How does one get multiple paths to arrive before the NPCs decide to leave on their own? We managed to do it once, but not through any apparent specific action.

How would you change Confusion?

in Mesmer

Posted by: int randInt return.3280

int randInt return.3280

Thinking about PvE and how those enemies attack much less often, and often very slowly when they do, maybe do something like Torment.
Fairly weak DoT normally (maybe none at all?), but higher DoT when the enemy is using a skill. Having confusion end just before the enemy finished an attack wouldn’t be so bad, and the weak DoT between, if included, would keep it from being a complete waste.
In WvW and SPvP, this may not be as great an idea.

Recyclable Traits

in Mesmer

Posted by: int randInt return.3280

int randInt return.3280

There are some traits that nobody would miss. What say we come up with a running list of them, such that Arenanet might buff them or replace them with something else?
Give an explanation if you give one.
If one of these is not so recyclable, I can change it quick.

Very recyclable:
Retaliatory Demise - Chaos Adept – 5 seconds of Retaliation when downed
- This might be useful if an enemy is almost dead, but not almost dead enough for you to rally with skill 1. The rest of the time, Retaliation damage for a short time when downed isn’t exactly a game changer, especially when you could have shorter Blink recharge to avoid getting downed in the first place.

Somewhat recyclable:
Rending Shatter - Domination Adept – AoE Vulnerability (1 for 8 seconds) from each shattered illusion
- It has its effect and has some use in parties, but if you’re planning to do something with shatters for damage, you’d probably just take increased Mind Wrack damage at Adept, increased Greatsword power/recharge at Master, and at Grandmaster, you’d be hard pressed not to take increased Illusion damage for the occasional phantasm if you’re looking to increase damage, or something else otherwise like removing boons on shatter.

Possibly Recyclable:
Retaliatory Shield - Dueling Adept – 3 seconds of Retaliation after blocking
- I suppose it can be used in a Scepter/Sword build looking to maintain permanent retaliation, but Fury on phantasms, Sword recharge and precision, and Manipulation range all seem like much better choices for pretty much any other build. A use, I suppose, so only somewhat recyclable.
- EDIT: I’ve heard some better things about this trait, so I’m changing the category.

This is just my thoughts, and I haven’t tried to go through all of the traits. Expand (or contract) the list beyond this.

Increasing the interest to do events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: int randInt return.3280

int randInt return.3280

made this suggestion before but here the short version:

Reward players for doing a number of different events per zone. So if we have a zone with 30+ events, there would be an achievement: finish 20 unique events in zone xy with a gold-medal. Once you reach the number (here 20) you’ll get a guaranteed loot-bag, which would be slightly better than current champion loot-bags + the achievement resets.

Further idea:

  • grant a zone-token for each completion of this achievement. Nice zone-specific skins, bags and gimmicks await your purchase using these tokens.

Why?

  • so people won’t grind the most effective events over and over
  • so people get rewarded for exploring the zone and finding “new” events
  • so people come back to low level zones again, since rewards are unique to the zone (similar to the token-system for dungeons)

I really like this. I was thinking something like this, but simplified down. Just some kind of loot bag (probably not as good as the champion loot bag) per unique event per day. It has about the same intent. I like the zone tokens, though, and that could be a good thing to replace whatever loot bag, though it’d probably be in a different number per item than in the event achievement system you’ve thought of.

Those should go toward things like weapons related the zone (a Krytan sword skin or various level and quality of a Krytan sword for Queensdale unique event tokens) or even just some fine or rare materials or a loot bag of miscellaneous stuff, such as the champion bags or Orrian jewelry boxes. Maybe with enough, you could even get a cultural weapon or armor piece.

Now, “Queensdale Token” or “Krytan Token”?

Queensdale Token means that each zone has individual merit to go to for different rewards, but starts really cluttering the wallet page up and it puts a much lower cap on the tokens per day toward any specific purchase.

Krytan Token means that people will probably start in the easiest map, so other ones may get ignored, but those looking to make more progress could go to other maps. It saves wallet space and matches the kind of divisions they use for the dailies.

Craftable standard equipment skin items

in Suggestions

Posted by: int randInt return.3280

int randInt return.3280

Transmutation is all well and good for fancy equipment appearances, and I have no complaint against that.
That said, for cheaper equipment, I have grown tired of looking at the abstract sculpture known as a “pearl sabre” and would like a sword that just looks like a generic sword instead. It’s an annoyance, but not enough of one to be worth the cost of fine transmutation stones or a completely new exotic sword.

Make it so that equipment crafters can create “skin” items (such as those from HoM) for the various existing craftable items.
A recipe should be available from the craft NPCs to make just the skin for a piece of equipment using just the materials.
For example, an orichalcum sword blade and hilt, using such a recipe, could create a “level 80” sword skin that could be applied to any sword of level 80 or below. The varieties from crafter NPCs would be limited strictly to those that can be crafted already at other levels or qualities, such as the krait machete (80 rare crafted) or the generic sword (5 fine crafted).

The result would be that cheap items can easily be made to look like other cheap items to fit a particular aesthetic a bit better without investing in fine transmutation stones best saved for something fancier.

Funniest name ever.

The best I’ve seen of that variety in any game so far is “MyNameIsTooLon”.

I initially thought of a perfect name for a thief, but it was, by its nature, one I couldn’t use.
So, my brother has a thief named “I Stole This Name”.

Only a mesmer can be taken completely seriously while wearing an entire set of pink.

Only a mesmer can shoot lasers from a sword without being at full health.

Only a mesmer can heal his/her party by muttering about agony, torment, and/or pain.

Only a mesmer can stab a sword into the ground without getting it dirty.

Only a mesmer can make summoning an imaginary interpretive dancer into a powerful AoE attack (Phantasmal Warden).

Only a mesmer can pull people away from his/herself.

Only a mesmer can cause people to sink while above ground… from beyond maximum range… while causing them to reflect projectiles. Trident 5 is really weird.

Only a mesmer can give quickness to an entire party at once.

Only a mesmer can make the swamp fractal tolerable.

Only a mesmer can make doors hallucinate.

Brainstorming on other Elder Dragon fights

A thought on this, no particular dragon in mind.

While siege weapons are kind of boring to actually use, they make plenty of sense. But, just pressing the button is boring. I figure that the siege weapons should be important to the fight, but not by the entire fight.

My fight plot is to use the siege weapons to bring whichever dragon down to the ground in a stunned state so you can hit it with your normal attacks. But, using the siege weapons isn’t just pressing the buttons, but rather the entire logistics run, defending the siege weapons from mobs the dragon summons, repairing/charging them by completing other objectives around the area, and keeping up some magical barrier to keep the dragon from just frying you all directly. Basically, make the dragon fight an entire meta event, with simultaneous sub-events in various areas that need to be coordinated to make the dragon fightable. In a dungeon, this would probably require a whole bunch of NPC allies to follow each player.
