Guild Wars + AMD Mantle?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I dont think they are going to rewrite huge parts of this game to support mantle that is specific to ATI hardware. Seems like a waste of resources to me, and your really underestimating how much work that is to do I mean its fundamental changes to the whole rendering pipeline probably not to mention all the sub systems dependent on that. Mantle is something you build into a new game not retroactively go back and patch it in to a huge game like this

Guild Wars 2 Should Go Free2Play

Having to buy the game is a good deterrent to bots. The if its F2P they need to sell more stuff from the shop to make up for the lost sales. Its just not a good idea overall unless you absolutely had too which maybe someday they will, but not now.

In my opinion I think they have done a good job with this game so far. Its easy to criticize but I still think this is a fun game. I am not level 80 yet though I guess I am playing a little more casual than most people on here.
My only issue like I said is the dynamic events have a lot more potential then they currently seem to have.

I really dont see all the complaints and most of them as usual do not sound very valid to me. I have yet to see a post explaining specifically what end game without gear progression at all really means. If there was a good fun way to do that why would wow in the course of 8 years not do that?
I will criticize them for not fixing/changing the dynamic events because its boring without them and they are very hard at high levels with no other players around

Lets say there is no vertical progression. What then is the end game that keeps people playing? Without any better gear or items assuming people are wearing cool looking items what reason do they have to actually log in for end game?

What exactly does an end game over years of time look like without any kind of gear or vertical progression of items or stats like say wow does? I mean how do you keep players playing the game without any kind of gear progression or items or anything? End game is a different ball game then the journey to get there even if lower zones scale why would anyone bother?
Maybe arena net thought maybe gear treadmill is the best way to do an end game since most casual players will get bored and quit regardless so end game gives more serious players a point to keep playing? I dont know but I would hear suggestions on an end game with no item progression like how you do that.

My opinion of current vertical progression.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

juiceman.2870

Yeah I think they are kind of scrambling to get more end game content out so maybe its not the best design choices but they are trying. Its not like it can not be changed, and a lot of players do like vertical progression and it will always exist in some form even if its just aesthetic choices on what to wear.

Yes removing most of the bots is definitely a very good thing. I never noticed all the bot trains were actually gone until I saw these topics in this forum. Hopefully prices on everything will go back to normal now that the bots are gone.
I do wish though guild wars 2 had the henchman from guild wars 1 to make getting a group easier because a lot of zones are empty since I am not 80 yet so the events are hard to do or find.

The game being mostly bot free is considered a success since we know its impossible to ever completely stop. Its good to know they have plans to do more then they have so far because it can be painful to see the same bots for 2 weeks in a row.

I just wanted to point out you said the game was made with horizontal scaling system and armors make marginal difference. Then you criticize magic find items needing to sacrifice effectiveness. I mean the effectiveness trade off cant be that much if even you admit its a horizontal system and armors are only marginal difference

“Armor rarity disparity – The ArenaNet team promised before launch that all armor would be created equal. Instead, we now have masterwork, rare, and exotic armor. They all have different stats. This means if you have level 80 exotic armor, you are better equipped (albeit marginally) than someone with level 80 masterwork armor. For a game that is designed with a horizontal scaling system, this also doesn’t make much sense.

Magic Find armor – There is no reason to include Magic Find items in this game. One of the biggest flaws of this system is that players need to sacrifice effectiveness to gather drops. Why this design? Is it to create a challenge for players who want to farm? When players equip Magic Find armor in dungeons, they are detrimental to the team. It baffles me that ArenaNet thought this was a good idea."

Why I think teleport costs are unreasonably hight

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: juiceman.2870

juiceman.2870

I know any change like this needs to be thought through before you changed anything, but I would like to see waypoint costs scaled by zone level which makes perfect sense and not just distance and your character level.
Then if more gold sinks are needed put that cost on repair bills after dying to give players higher stakes for dying. I would rather be punished for dying then punished for wanting to revisit areas or explore low level zones without walking every part of it to save money. The high costs force you to think about always getting more money because over time your going broke if you use waypoints.

True it kind of flies in the face of revisiting old zones when really you just throw away a lot of money especially considering you might want to warp around for events and things in each zone.

horrible loot from dragon events

juiceman.2870

I am only level like 48 but I dont see a major problem with the loot I mean you get like 4 or 5 items that scale to your level what more do you want? I think its fine its more the dragon timer being too predictable and the fight itself being too easy. Dont go overboard though and make it impossible. The loot could be tweaked but I leave that to them to decide its not horrible right now.

I think both sides have points. I mean the question is without a grind like this game then what happens at end game or does that mean it just doesnt have one? Does just pvp and wvw then count as the end game where in a game like wow there are raids and lots of things to set out to do to get geared?

horrible loot from dragon events

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: juiceman.2870

juiceman.2870

These dragon events need to be made a lot harder and they need to be on random timers from like 3 – 48 hours or something not 3 hours so people can farm them on timers. Kind of silly really how easy it is to know the exact time they repop.
These things are dragons they supposed to be epic world battles these things might as well just be normal champion mobs with a bunch of hp they are way too easy and dont scale at all.

Is Leaving Events Early An Exploit?

in Dynamic Events

Is hitting an enemy mob someone else is fighting but only doing enough damage to get credit for the kill and then leaving early an exploit? Seems a lot like what your saying for an event so why would it be an exploit when the game was designed that way?

I know everyone bashes some bad aspects of this game when comparing to wow. I mean this game has been out what like less then 2 months compared to wow that has been around for like 10 years? Is that really a fair comparison? This game needs some time for them to fix and add to it to make it better. Without the monthly sub though I still think comparing this to wow is unfair.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

My opinion is everyone plays games for different reasons. Some people play to get away from things like real life and maybe just want to play solo. Since this game does not require groups for a lot of it then its okay to play solo if you want.
Not everyone plays games to socialize maybe they get their fill of socializing in real life and just want to play the game to be left alone and relax it just depends on the person

How about no damage to our stuff for dying? I die a whole lot of times so my bills are really high after just playing a little so its not really worth it unless you have everything in the game and have no use for money anymore. I dont see why repairing has to be there. The penalty for dying is having to walk all that way back.

Change the 25 bleed stack limit

in Suggestions

juiceman.2870

I can how a build kind of built around stacking this is made kind of useless by limiting the stacks but somehow the mobs need to be able to put a fight against giant zergs of players. The 25 limit I am sure is to limit the damage on the boss so it doesnt die too easy. If they removed that then they need to add some other buff or something that reduces damage or some way for the boss to take hits so it needs to be there in some form.

wvw adding grid on map

in Suggestions

juiceman.2870

I think in world verse world it would be very helpful if the whole map was overlaid with a grid with lat and long coordinates. So someone can say defend walls at 20,30 and we all know where that is on our map. Right now no one has exact way to say where something is happening at. I mean real wars do that for a reason I think.

Stopping bots is not as easy as it sounds which is why it important to start on it right away.
A bot getting drops is no different then a player the drops are probably just a percent and just luck so it doesnt bother anyone else. Bots do destroy the economy and take away mobs that players might want.

I never said make all players fill out captchas only the bots getting reported by other players do the captchas not anyone else. It does cost money to have a company somewhere do those for you and captchas exist that bots can not do besides those common google ones everyone sticks onto websites
You need an automated solution is a lot cheaper then spending resources constantly fighting it.

I will be unpopular and say leave it how it is. There are other games like say Diablo 3 that prove simplifying game mechanics is good to a certain point but sometimes even seemingly simple or repetitive things when removed can make the game worse. There is some thought and maybe even strategy in getting the loot while more enemies are targeting you. It keeps the person engaged after fights and reminds you of your accomplishments.
An option for it would be nice but dont force everyone to use it. It has plenty of good things though like everyone says I do agree. I just wanted to say you have to think about simple changes too.

On Botting and What We’re Doing About It

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Not really no one needs to know the specifics of how its implemented for that very reason you dont want people to know how it works otherwise the bot guys will adapt. I believe people playing want to stop the bots so I dont think it would be abused.
Guilty until proven innocent is a whole new debate but that happens in all of our society and how is getting reported by a few players innocent? I bet player reports have a very high percent of accuracy especially when its by more then 1 different player
Its just a suggestion they probably wont use anyways I mean maybe it would alienate players I dont know.

I think an automated way to stop the bots could exist I dont know if its worth the time/money actually do or not. I think a few player reports on 1 person means most likely it is a bot then give that bot a few random captchas questions or random images to piece together. They dont get it temp ban them or perm ban whatever you want. I dont think you would get very many false positives people really dont report bots wrongly that often.

Alright I have a near fool proof way to stop bots. If a person gets 2 or more reports saying they are a bot then force that person to answer an in game captcha to keep playing and if they pass they just go on and if not they get temp banned until its investigated. The only problem with it is if a person is afk or logs off but you can put a long timer on the captcha and if they log off its just there when they get back
Not some wussy captcha but one where you put together a few pieces to an image which bots arent going to be able to do or a question
Just harass the person reported to be the bot because most likely they are and if they answer a few random captchas then give them benefit of doubt if its bot then person is still nearby to answer captcha
