On Ember Bay quests ->
I really like how two of the short meta-events connected to quest areas give you quest progression. That makes them feel much more fun and alive. That’s only the case with Vermingus and Mursaat fortress quest though. I think it’s a shame that the Circus / Skritt / Destroyer event chains don’t really give you quest progression – even event spawned destroyers don’t. I think it’d be much more fun to see events be more tied to hearts in the new maps so if you are bored with just pressing f collecting items (circus heart) you could also do event objectives, broadening the freedom of gameplay.
Other than that, I was wondering why killing a champion/veteran gives you the same ammount of quest progression points as killing a normal mob. I think that if you put more than minimal effort into completing a part of a task you should also be rewarded adequately. Killing vetaran/champion mobs and doing other more complicated tasks (for example catching falling rocks with a bucket in vermingus quest, that is super fun but hard at times) should reward you with more quest progression points than doing things that require minimal effort (killing normal tier mobs, pressing F on things…)
How do you guys feel about hearts? What do you like the most about them and what would you improve? Because I guess they’re here to stay.
/// oh also you apparently can’t hand in large delicate eggs without having any bonus items

Also I said this many times but I feel like I have to do so again : the story is way too short.
I’d prefer a fixed female armor instead of a half expansion skin replacement.
I have one very short question and I’d love to see it answered. Can we expect any storylines based on old GW1 characters in the upcoming years?

Eternal
Chrono zerk/ Chrono tank
Totally not a bump, please ignore.
I’ve been to a lot of raiding lobby guilds, none of them were good enough. I’m looking for a non-rep requiring guild with no set raiding shedule and plenty of very experienced people with positive attitude.
90% of my playtime is on my mesmer. I used to speedrun dungeons pre HoT now I’m a team swapping (oh wait, nvm, patched, meh), permaquickness granting chrono. I also have an ele, but I don’t really enjoy that class (could swap if I was asked to).
I have full ascended sets and elite specs on both of them.
I can play zerk or tank on my chrono and upkeep permament quickness (with revenant’s facet of nature) permamently on both builds.
I have the eternal title, 15 insights and most of SV achievements.
Please adopt a mesmer ;-;
Please mail me in game o/

The good things.
I love how you responded to many QOL propositions. It’s really heartwarming to see that you listen to even the smallest pieces of feedback. It really makes the game feel better.
Shatterer rework is amazing, the fight is very fun, although too short in my opinion. It’s so fun that I very often look for more maps just to play it a little more.
What makes this fight so great is in my opinion
a) Mobs that actually drop loot, and there’s swarms of them! A lot of them die quickly which makes me feel quite good about myself for no particular reason, lol (candy crush reward tier I guess, not cool, not cool… but effective… sadly… QUITE LIKE BAGS AND REMOVING KEY BULKS TO MAKE US CLICK MORE, RIGHT? I KNOW WHAT WHERE YOU’RE GOING WITH THIS AND I DONT LIKE IT… Okay, I do… but only subconciously, not fair).
b) No DPS sponges (outside of the boss himself). They always take away a lot of fun.
c) clear AoE indicators! Shatterer moves are really neat, you can easily say what is going to happen next and you know when to dodge if you pay attention. And you have to keep moving!
d) Gliding. Gliding…. Gliding. Yeah. Gliding.
Now the bad things.
No real content additions.
A LOT of people don’t feel like grinding all chak weapons etc or going for the legendaries because they simply don’t like them or they don’t enjoy the meta events from HoT so after finishing the story, exploring the map and getting the achievements a lot of people have nothing to do… that includes me.
Honestly, I expected Living Story Season 3 to go live this January/Ferbruary, but it looks like it’s delayed to Q2? Same goes for new fractals. I can’t wait for the new raid, and the last tweet of one of raid devs made me really excited, but I can’t help to think that for a ‘big Q1 update’, it lacks content. Shatterer and gliding in Tyria are the two things that will keep players intrested for some time, but it’s not enough to most of people I know and me.

I just want to say that I completely agree with all points you’ve made in this thread. Even though I love collections, I feel that something is missing. It’s the lore and immersion part.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Imo elite specs should rather be locked behind shorter story instances rather than mastery locked hero challenges. That would solve most of the problems – Hero challenges should be repeatable each day and should give a solid ammount of map reward currency, more than they do give now.
Can we have other condi specs buffed please?
Yeah, it would add a bit of epicness.
After fighting the Vale Guardian all I want is fractals being basically 5 man shorter versions of raids. So instead of having 5 people jumping into the circle AoE you’d need two. Side mechanics during boss fights is something fractals lack and it troubles me a lot because of how much I love those. They make your zergish stackparty split and fill different roles, eventually ending up in a glorious team coordinated success.
I’m okay with You abandoning dungeons, but please, for love of god, make fractals a glorious evolution of them that is just as cool as the raids you’ve made!

I think it’s unfair to reward people who just ‘tagged’ an event and are going to get bronze/silver just like you reward people who focus on actually finishing an event. It encourages toxic gameplay. People don’t form groups and don’t focus on completion and just run around the map
I agree with everything you said, OP.
It totally should scale! Wyverns are amazing enemies. But the toughness arguement still stands I think.
… and more toughness in the non-breaken stance to make breaking the breakbar worth it. Because we managed to break the breakbar and the wyv went from 100->0 in less than 7 seconds. And we weren’t even organised ._.
My build focuses mostly on shattering to upkeep alacrity to upkeep shatters. And upkeeping those makes me able to upkeep quickness and constantly reduce CD on quickness sharing abilities (quickness well, TW and F5 shatter for even more quickness sharing).
Seize the momment should be a master trait, and Improved alacrity a grandmaster one. Illusionary Reversion could have an AMAZING synergy with Improved Alacrity due to Flow of Time minor + shatterspam build.
The two event chains (itzel and laranthir) are AWESOME and night cycle feels lacking when compared to day cycle.
Smokescales are awesome once people learn how to lure them out of their AoEs. It’s kinda like with beetles. Amazing creatures, leave them as they are.
This is an AMAZING mechanic but for most of the time CCing a mob doesn’t really feel like it’s worth it. Take champions for example… They get stunded for 3 seconds, but it doesn’t really make that much difference. It would be amazing if there was something more to. Husks from Laranthir event chain have a very cool breakbar mechanic. Make it so for example mushroom champions keep running in circles at superspeed and dealing AoE damage untill you CC them once, then they enter a normal champion stance. Because currently there’s a lot of mobs with barely any cool breakbar mechanics. There’s the wyvern husks and riders, but nothing else feels good tbh.
Is the PvP legendary backpiece and Fractal backpiece from the blogpost the same thing?

Is Guild Halls challenging group content?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: juniterio.1245
If it is, I’m done. Where are my raids?
//entitled mode off
Didn’t watch the entire video (who got time for that!).
But in general I imagine that they would first only do the HoT mobs. When it is working good and the reception is good it can be employed to the main game in fases (if it is worth chancing). They can also choose then to not do the main game openb world, but still do the dungeons and other instances.
But from a management-development objective, I would HoT-only first and then evaluate to see if you want to extend it.
You don’t understand, the new AI works on a different system. Having two different AI systems in game would make no sense… I think.
Watch the vid.
So after watching this video… http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1021848/Building-a-Better-Centaur-AI
I can’t help but wonder if the mobs we all already know like pirates, inquest guys and other trash pve enemies will stay just as dumb as they are now but having a new, refreshed AI? Or is the intention to make ALL the mobs smarter?

I played Everquest back in the day and they had really dark nights. You needed a light source to see, especially if you were trying to navigate underground.
I think the darkness can add something to the game but it can also be incredibly frustrating if it’s overdone. It’s important to find the right balance.
/does not like stumbling around in the dark totally unable to see
Yeah I totally agree, I would enjoy something in between Dry Top cave darkness and normal Tyrian night. I really enjoy total darkness mechanics like those in Borderlands JP or caves in Dry Top. Having more dark caves would be totally okay but if nights were that dark… UGHH. Let’s not go there… :P
While nights are indeed not any dark, I have to point at an important difference between the sandstorm and a dark night. Dark game areas don’t go well with real lights, like the sun or lamps in your room.
Inb4 Anet’s response to my thread
Sorry guys we can’t make nights any darker because some of players use table lamps.
:^)
Where is promised challenging HOT content?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: juniterio.1245
Anet still hasn’t said a word about the challenging hot content.
Funny thing. The lack of visibility during sandstorm is definitely one of my least liked features of that zone.
Good, I hate not seeing anything too, really. But it adds immersion, it makes it feel like you are in an actual sandstorm.
So… is Balthazar the lord of light? Or is Rytlock? Primordus maybe..
What if it’s the Exalted? It would totally fit the Mursaat god theme.
For the night should be…
dark…
and full of mordrem…
>:3
You guys realize Lord Faren is confirmed to be in this expansion right?
It wont stay depressing for long.Unless he shows up and is instantly, brutally murdered :P
Yay \o/
So, um. The main arguement for why nights in GW2 can’t be darker is that players would have problems seeing stuff. Okay, but… Could the nights in Verdant Brink be at least a bit darker than they are now? I’m using dark shaders from graphic mods and the nights still are way too bright.
Too dark? Huh? But… Have you guys ever been to Dry Top? Have you ever encountered a sandstorm? You can barely see anything, which is a good thing – it’s the map mechanic and it’s meant to be immersive and infulence the gameplay. And uh well, it totally does. Not only it changes the map event gameplay but also the way you approach enemies or traverse through the sandy fields. It’s a good thing. It’s a very good thing. Why not do the same in Verdant Brink with the night / day mechanic? Please, those nights maybe are darker than the others in Tyria but urgh, they’re still not dark enough.
How do you guys feel about the nights in Verdant Brink? Are they dark enough for you or am I the only one thinking stuff needs to be darker?
// oh, one more thing. Can we have more vine pierced corpses in Verdant Brink? I was really counting on seeing those and I haven’t found any. :C

Beta feedback - solo explo / story instance
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: juniterio.1245
1) The lack of solo exploration content in the beta (except adventures but come on, it’s not much)
Right so I know the intention was to test events but from what we’ve seen in Dry Top bosses (Notchli, Three Toed Tootsie, Inquest confusion guy from the electic bridge event etc etc etc) are spawned in events too and actually some of them can be soloed with a good build. It was a really cool experience soloing Notchli with a stability heavy build. I’m wondering if we’ll see more encounters like that in the jungle as… I haven’t seen any in the beta. I think those bosses should have some achievements attached to them so they’re actually worth killing. That could be considered challenging exploration. I really liked the bristleback from chronomancer preview and I hope killing those bosses will have a purpose and that there will be plenty of them.
2) The story instance – wayyy tooo easyyyy.
I expected it to be at least as hard as LS2 Ep 5. I was very disappointed.
- The first boss was very hard to interrupt (2 dazes = break) which is a GOOD thing, but… it was pointless to do so. It was easier to dodge the damage or just range him. He had much hp and no intresting mechanics – not a good thing, the only good thing was the cool looking vine, but it’s just cool looking. That’s all.
- Now the second boss… After I red the description ‘interrupt this guy to knock him down from the dinosaur and make him voulnerable’ I smirked. But after seeing that he can actually take damage from me while on the dinosaur I got disappointed again. I couldn’t even interrupt him – the breakbar was locked all the time, and then Rytlock appeared and knocked that guy down. Not. Fun. At. All.
So that’s it, I guess. What do you guys think?
Good. Make it dark. Make it depressing. GOOD. Gw2 needs that dark souls feel in it, now it;s time to get challenging.
Me and my guild mates had a long talk about how dark HoT story might get. We all really enjoy dark stories so we support that. It makes them feel more realisitc.
We don’t have enough challenging content in GW2. Making things less RNG or require kittentones of tokens would cause huge inflation. Solution -> wait for HoT. If there’s enough of very challenging content, we’ll be getting 60% droprates for killing bosses only 10% of the gw2 population can beat. #HOPE
When is tommorow, tho? Ugh. It’s already 28 April here.
In 3 hours? I really need to know, I took a day off for this.
// sorry for the misleading tittle
Domination looks like it is pretty pve viable… except the grandmaster trait. Blurred Ins is in domination too and I LOVE using signets. I find them almost core in most cases. Same goes for empovered illusions. But the grandmasters… Eww. GS is situational. S/S and S/something is the pve way. Do you guys agree? Are there any pve usages of MT or PB? I do not wamt to shatter my phants in pve. And Interrupt traits don’t proc on breakbar destroying do they… And if they do, then I would probably have to be the last one using the cc skill, breaking the bar. Lame.
I really like using Signet of Domination to interrupt foes. Now as I have to choose between Furious Interruptions and Blurred Inscriptions (20% signet recharge) I don’t feel quite right… (Signet of Domination doesn’t feel right but that’s other thing – dmg dealt via Power Block is not condi and SoD increases my condi dmg. That’s kinda creepy.)
Will you be adding more core specialisations to classes or just the elite ones?
Would you rather have HoT released without some parts of content you wanted to see in the package (like the hardcore endgame pve content everyone is speculating about) just to be able to play it earlier?
Maybe it’s just the bright and vibrant colours.
I really loved the ending of S2. It was so emotional I couldn’t hold my tears. I’d really love to see more momments like that in HoT.
I’m wondering if stuff like Canach / Caithe turning evil at some point of the story forcing us to kill them would be possible. Or am I going too far?
//nvm I forgot that we just discovered that Caithe killed Wynn
