Upon testing, I can confirm that Maul procs Attack of Opportunity for you while in beast mode. Maul -> Beast Skill -> Autoattack -> Maul -> Beast Skill -> Autoattack Maul -> Weapon Swap seems like it might have the potential to be quite good in terms of damage over longbow.
Also, Sic’Em effects you as well, which should be a pretty significant damage increase, and while some of the traits were nerfed, you do get some of the bonus power/precision/toughness/vitality/ferocity that your pet would normally be given from the Beastmastery minor traits while in beast mode.
This is pretty much the only thing I like about Soulbeast atm. I hate the utility, traits, and dagger.
No trap skills? What?
And light on your feet?
Feel free to reupload if you find and add new things

OMG. F5 with Porcine family is going to be interesting
Here you have little children: the rifle warrior, more damage (3k crits autos) plus extreme Usain Bolt speed with GS and lets not forget all the imunities as usual, range is close enough 1200 vs 1500, in a heavy armor class plus an small AOE and the most important thing: no trench coats
This can oneshot even guardians or revs, not only glass thieves like the OP’s video shows (although is so much fun to watch )
Now i’d like to see the core ranger to excel just at one thing. Just one thing.
Lets not forget ranger was the only class which was always insta-kicked in dungeons parties.
Video not meant to show-case ranger viability. On the contrary, I got fed up with getting stomped by all these cancer builds and standard ranger builds are very weak right now. Got cornered into an all-or-nothing build.
Pretty hyped about e-specs right now, but devs really should re-visit core ranger skills/traits.
lol ty,
had people crying about hammer damage and I told them there was a 10k aa build for ranger but I didn’t recall the last person who did a vid on it.
Have you tried snow leopard? that form you can actually fight with. Idk maybe there is something there you can try.
Yeah leopard form is nice , but then I’d have to make another ranger called Legendary Leopard. I already have eight rangers >_<
Also can we change Remorseless back to: Regain Opening Strike when you Stealth? This would open up more possibilities (seeing very few rangers using sword, off-hand axe, or GS) for ranger builds.

Come on balance team. This elite skill is so bad now. Reduce CD and make it a stun break.
PS. Signets are still awful to use.
(edited by kiwituatara.6053)
I think Outnumbered pips should be reduced to 2.
Solutions:
1. Increase required pips for chest by 5×. Reduce timer for participation to 1min. Makes it annoying to hop to less populated maps every 1 min.
2. Make Outnumbered buff like “Voluneer’s Blessing” (PvE volunteer to change overflow buff) and make it last for 5mins. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Volunteer%27s_Blessing
Hey everyone, just wanted to put this out there. Has anyone used the Invigorating bond nature magic grandmaster trait?
Ass it stands it heals for 2500 every 20 seconds when a pet uses its F2 attack. And that is it.
Given the core ranger severe lack of condition removal and in line with giving more control on special skills proc, i suggest the following:
- Invigorating bond procs on pet swap with an ICD of 15 seconds (to be in line with the traited pet swap CD)
- Invigorating bond additionally removes 2 conditions in an AOEThoughts? Opinions?
Make it so pet swap drops a 3s water field that condi cleanses per 1s pulse. It’d go nice with clarion bond.
I think y’all are confused. They way it is if you have 10 stacks of stability and a Nerco used a boon removal that removes 3 it would remove only 3 stacks of stability you still have 7 stacks on stability which in this case of the stability change.
You’re the one calling other noobs ? Playing Ranger for 5 years and still don’t know how corrupt/removal boon work ? Maybe go play other classes, you apparently need it.
LOL this is too funny. 5yr ranger brag, calling people noobs, can’t read, don’t know game mechanics.
/rekt
Get off your high horse and stop insulting others. You got what you deserved.
Would like to see SOTP become a stun break
32k DPS sounds extremely viable to me?
I think he meant that DPS isn’t viable because you need to be flanking. Which makes it very situational for SB to reach 32k DPS.
With the latest change to Light on Your Feet and Refined Toxins, fellow Rangers that own both The Dreamer and Chuka & Champawat – REJOICE! There’s finally a build for shortbow (in PVE). Is it meta? Who knows! But after seeing the numbers, I’m sure someone out there will crunch it all.
Legendary Double (Short) Bow Build
Flank the boss. Spam 1, 2, 4 and weapon swap to your other (Legendary) shortbow off cooldown for more bleeds. With the new Light on Your Feet, Crossfire applies 9.75s of bleeding, 17.75s of poison from Poison Volley, and Refined Toxins tosses in 8 additional stacks of poison from you and your Pet while you spam traps and sharpening stone.
Why not Beastmastery? Because we only took it for Companion’s Might and Honed Axes so our Pet could get some boons since the target cap and priority of players over NPCs. Without the need of Honed Axes and Companion’s Might being weaker than Fortifying Bond, NM takes the cake while offering additional team support and a harder hitting Pet.
If you are low-manning it where your Pet can receive boons, then take Beastmastery with the usual traits, minus Honed Axes. Take Beastly Warden instead. Best of all, this build is more friendly on moving targets. All you need is 3s for the traps instead of 9s for Bonfire. Whatta change!
Edit: Man, that spike in Sigil of Geomancy’s price.
And whats the dps like?
I was trying out nothing but autoattack SB + light of your feet and it ended up with 15.5k dps (no weapon swap, no utlity)
Smokescale even more RIP lol
The bough covers female character’s face because its held horizontally.
The bough’s druid laser beam doesn’t come out the end.
Since Anet is doing an overhaul with pvp sigils, we can hopefully expect new sigil types in pve as well. Maybe help revitalise dungeons by replacing the current dungeon sigils with new accountbound sigils since they’re currently obsolete and nobody uses them (e.g. sigil of dreams, etc)
Dire/trailblazer stats need reduction in vit/tough
Or
Do the same thing as magic find armor, make everyone be able to select stats and take dire/trailblazer combinations out of the game. The risk/reward of those stats are so unbalanced.
I was thinking: “What if you had a function, like a mastery, like a job, on WvW”.
You equip it like a espec maybe in a exclusive slot and BOOM! You have special utilities and traits. What im talking about?
Look:Defender: They defend they’r allies with a giant shield or shield bubbles (or something else), the concept is that you keep behind them as they walk to the front line, you cant pass through they’r shield and it blocks projectiles but he takes the projectile damage (maybe or partially), they also have some resistense ans sustain traits.
Battle Mage: If you running a elemental, a condi necro or something alike, this is for you, increase all ground targeting range and radius and they do more damage. Basically
you’re the guys thats keep behind everyone using area spells.Marksman: All your single target skills have high increased range, and a bit of damage maybe. Just imagine a line of marksmans on a wall or a back line (long bow rangers rifle engis and war) shooting at a high distance.
Médic: You can revive allies even in combat, you have increased healing power and when you get up a downed allie he starts with more HP and buffs. Also, you can heal special condition from…
Trapper: Can put special traps to slow down or bait enemy squads, some of them alert enemy location, some take supplies, some inflict special conditions that can only be removed by a médic (you have médic NPCs on keeps) like a poison that keeps you in combat or a small slow debuff. Works good with…
Scout: Can either follow enemy squads steps to see where they’re hitting next or stay next your squad watching for enemy ambushs while they storm a keep, they have a (maybe) perma out of combat stealth and area revealed, they can also see nearby enemies as red dots on minimap. Only another scout or a assassin can a scout, as they have a strong revealed skill, but you can also reveal them with normal profession skills.
Fighter: The front line warriors, they get increased resistence and damage the more enemies nearby and get a % of damage as healing (works good with that warrior and guard build with lots of blocks going berserk diving on enemy squads).
Builder: The only one who can build siege in combat, if a ally interact with siege site while in combat, they just drop they’r supplies on the siege site and when the build interact with it they use the supplies dropped there to build. They also have some improved siege use and build faster and more effectively.
Assassin: They can get on the enemy back line and kill the marksman or the commander, with a high backstab skill and a stealth that looks like a scout, they make the other guys need a trapper trapping around they’r back line to catch a assassin or a scout to warn them.
Bomber: Destroi siege faster, and alone without using any siege do a nice damage to walls and gates deploying bombs on them (but the bombs can be destroyed by enemies maybe?). You want some bombers on your squad so you take a keep more faster as they are a dps to buildings.
General: I was thinking a concept of a guy that keeps buffing allies and just a general presence make allies inspired and stronger, like a special buff like outnumbered, only used by the commander (and when them die… well… you’re not inspired anymore!)
Just imagine, the fighters fighting on front line, you look to your right a médic reviving a dead guy, back there a line of marksmans and battle mages, at they’r side a builder building some arrow carts that he will use after building it, and a scout keeping a eye on they back for any assassins while your assasins are trying to sneak on enemy backlines
In the other side of the map a small squad, some scouts following enemy squad and some trappers putting traps on they’r way to slow them down.
Those are supposed to be passives and utility skills, working like the ones you already have on WvW but more specific and more present on the mode, you still using your profession skills on this sistem, as it works good for you to be a druid/ele médic a thief/ranger trapper or scout and a engi builder or bomber as some profession traits may work with the job skills.
Sorry for bad english
I don’t like the idea since it can interfere with roaming. Here’s my alternative idea.
We can have the roles still, but you have to make your build adjust to those roles and your WvW reward increases if you fulfill your chosen role.
E.g. Marksman – Finishing a player with a single target skill – increased karma, increased reward track %, increased magic find, increased wxp for 1min.
E.g. Healer – For every 10k heal on others – " "
And you would use your WXp upgrades to unlock increased karma, increased in magic find, etc for each role.

Since we now have skills differentiated between the game modes, can we get the Spirits Unbound trait back for pve/wvw?
Spirits are really unique and I enjoy them as they are now, but I can’t use them in my preferred game mode (WvW). Thoughts?
Nah, just make them move by default. They fixed them in PvE where they don’t die anymore so I don’t see why they need to be placed strategically.
Maybe try viper set? It’s better than zerker set for DPS and is great for both fractal and raids.
http://qtfy.eu/build/ranger <= possible best pve builds currently
Support isn’t generally as important in FOTM. If you really want to try support role in raids, Magi as a second set isn’t bad as they are fairly cheap.
I’m halfway through gearing up at the moment. I’ve got all ascended vipers except for 6 pieces (Substituted with 4 exotic rampager armors and 2 ascended rampager trinkets).
I tested the rotations with some cheap food, but I only came up to 20,500 dps (wayyyyy below the 33,000 dps benchmark….)
I hope it’s the gears…
Did you make sure you turned on the option for pet boons as well in the dps room? makes a biiiiig difference.
Your intro is too long. loljk. Nice vid
Is hilt bash range fixed?
Dont get why u mad fluff. I think his vid was really impressive. Literally havent seen any ranger in game that can do what u did in your ranger vids. Gameplay is sick
Btw could u share your build with us if u dont mind.Ty man. I didnt know that ppl get bothered from a 40sec intro. There are like 25k view vids with more than 40sec intro and normal fights. But anyways im glad some ppl enjoyed the vid and im really sorry for the others who didnt. But hey i learn from my mistakes. About the build. in the vid i was using 2 builds ill make sure to post them in the description.
I think I’ve been using almost the same build as you?

Your build relies only on dps. For me i have dolyak runes instead of ranger for the reg of cele form while kiting. And i use skirmishing instead marksmanship for the quickdraw, increased prec, and vigor. Quick draw alone is really op when used at the right time to survive. and some changes in druid line
Trapper’s expertise? I think you meant Primal reflexes

Jeez, an awful lot of hostility about what you guys are calling a “slightly suboptimal” build.
Krait runes, CC lock, burning, bleeding, poison, chill, cripple, immob…. and basically unkillable at the same time. It’s extremely forgiving because even if you totally miss a dodge it’s barely going to scratch you.
Once you reduce the drama, it’s really not a terrible spec. It’s not the best possible option, but you guys are acting like people don’t have near 100% success rate running condi druid. I enjoy running it for a change of pace and it does well.
Edit: Also anduriell in another thread you were advocating for roaming with a tank druid. If a tank druid can be successful then dire obviously can. Dire is going to put out a hundred times more damage than tanky staff.
Agreed, personally love the BM condi build, but the current power staff builds gets the job done with more survivability and mobility, which is probably better in a wvv situation.
I’ve been testing out a double staff trailblazer build for lolz and thought it’d suck o_O but its not toooo bad. I try not to bring any hard CCs to the build except for primal echos. You’re basically kiting around and proccing aoe ancient seeds every 9s.
I like to open with sharpening stone first, make them use up a condi cleanse. Get close and swap weapons for ancient seed proc. Continue to kite and swap weapons. Use bristleback F2 for a small burst when theyre finally caught. Avoid fighitng builds with high stability uptime.
Planning to do a power variation later on~
(edited by kiwituatara.6053)
Non-HoT pets (but including tiger) needs Toughness/Vitality buff. Their survivability is even worse now due to powercreeps that came with the expansion. Its never been easier to cleave/aoe them to death in PvP/small scale roaming.
Also, majority of the pets are still crap.
(edited by kiwituatara.6053)
Just change it back to 66% where it belongs. At least condi builds would be worth it and make up for the high fragility of condi rangers.
+1 Trait needs to be changed back to 66%.
All single target ranged attacks (even autoattacks) tracks stealth in this game if channeled before target goes into stealth. Even targeted melee attacks that has movement tracks stealth the same way (e.g. warrior gs 5, bearform 5, reaper shroud 2, etc).

You were just getting outplayed.
Why did you make a video showcasing rangers sustain when in the very beginning of the video you show the result of 2v1 where in which you won? And why did you bm the person? A 1v1 ALONE vs your build is his hard counter already!
Then you go on to 1v2 and die on node with no kiting. What exactly are you trying to prove with this post here?
i’m just going to say 2 things to you:
1) it’s a friend NOT me.
2) and most importantly u say he was getting out played… whatever dude, look closely to minute 1:05 and SEE how he took all that dmg like it was nothing… i mean he just inmoved him, burst him with all and still he survived… pls do something productive and give me his build and stats… cause i DO NOT think he’s using magi’s and i rally nedd it for my ranger.
1:05 Your friend messed up.
Look at 1:07, doesn’t check for stab before landing headbutt => allowed ranger to plant multiple seeds of life. He doesn’t even wait for ranger to come out of CA form before bursting.“didn’t make mistakes this guy just took the dmg” lol
dude, the only thing im going to say to u is that, with ALL that pressure he had… stab would be the last thing i would take in consideration… on top of that look at the amount of boons paul had, anyways the build… that paul never answered me in reddit… i wonder why. “lol”
Stab was all he needed to spam #2 CA. Everyone knows to save their burst after a ranger comes out of CA form.

Too much power creep since HoT.
Just make spirits mobile please.
Whewwww wyverns are pretty much up there for mobile DPS. Thanks for the chart!
Thanks man. It’d be interesting to see how much pet movement dps has changed as well :0
Does anyone know the actual crit chance for each pet family? If I remember correctly the formula for precision->crit chance works differently for pet?
I would recommend getting full zerkers (exotic). Then start working towards ascended gear (full zerkers or full vipers). These 2 sets are what people are running in dungeons and fractals.
I believe most raid groups prefer full magi druids.
i can make one ascended set
should i get full zerk or vipers?
In terms of zerks or vipers, its up to your preference of playstyle.
Both are for DPS builds. Both are viable builds.
If you like to see condition ticks, go vipers. Condition builds do a bit more DPS.
If you like doing power damage, go berserkers. Power builds do slightly less DPS but gives you access to extra dodges.
I would check out video dps demonstrations to see which one you like more:
Vipers: https://youtu.be/k1glLJZpNqM?t=3m35s
Zerks: https://youtu.be/xf4im928uxU (a little outdated but generally the same)

Increase core pet survivability such that it is on par with the power creep/inflation from HoT. (e.g. cats/birds/canines can be 100=>0 in half a second)
The “burst the pet”strat is exactly why I love using jaguars, a lot of people mistake the stealth with a swap lol, pair it with a bear or drake or some other fat tanky pet to soak hits and not worry about needing CDs and you’re guaranteed a short swap.
I’ve never gotten any of the cat/bird family pets to work in WvW after HoT. They couldn’t keep up with the power creep and a lot can happen during the 20s/16s pet swap cooldown.
I made a base power ranger last night to test with LB Sw/WH and holy sh8t, perma fury, regen, swiftness, 25 might stacks and even protection. And now unblockable pet damage. It looks good. I gotta figure out how to fight this when im on my DH. Any tips would be appreciated because that burst damage being unblockable is just intense.
I’m gonna assume its the typical shout ranger.
Burst their pet down. Shuts down their shout skills (WHaO, guard, and partially SotP, protect me). After that, it is an easy win since they’ve lost a lot of sustain and DPS.
Its accumulated damage.
We should get an entirely new elite spec, nobody asked for this poorly designed wow player bait bullkitten.
A lot of people asked for a support ranger that utilizes a staff, it was actually one of THE most asked for things on the forums, and then it happened, so try again.
Either way, everyone’s going to be getting new elite specs in the future, that’s why there’s the special “elite spec” slot in the trait tab.
@OP: well short now and WH just got some REALLY nice buffs, and from anet said last balance patch they plan on buffing base pets more as well, so we should be in pretty good shape in no time…. and by no time I mean like 20 years.
Can you link me to the devs talking about buffing pets more? I must’ve missed it
+1 would like to know too
The fractal offensive potion will give you crit chance (I think 15% for 150 AR), so thats another thing to watch out for.
IMO stick with full zerks.
Can we adjust their HP to the power creep since HoT launched? They are dying soooooo fast in WvW.
most of these posts were 3 years ago, and i am new to the game. does anyone know if the balancing issue of these pets has been fixed at all?
Might want to start a new thread for this.
Wvw/pvp:
- Smokescale and Bristleback are the go to.
- Some might replace Bristleback with wolf.
- An odd few might go spiders or drakes.
- Everything else is quite irrelevant as they don’t bring enough to the table or dies too quickly.
Pve:
– Bristleback, cats, electric wyvern, pink moaI figured that even if it was an old post, it is relevant to what I was going to ask so I didn’t want to double post in a sense.
Also, thanks for the advice. I’m new, are those specific names for pets or pet classes?
Bristleback, smokescale, electric wyvern, wolf are specific pets.
Spiders, cats, drakes are pet classes, just pick w/e you like from them. Pets within the same class have the same set of skills just different F2 skill.
