If you use shadow refuge, you can capture the point and not aggro any of the enemies. You will be in stealth long enough to get the point and escape.
Of course, this won’t work for the challenges that require fighting a champion to get the point, but I thought I would share this for any of my fellow thieves to make the grind to DD a little easier.
“I couldn’t use any utility, save my healing skill, at the launch of guild wars 2 I had to level and every certain amount of levels I unlocked the ability to purchase new skills with skill points. "
Except you weren’t level 80, which requires millions of XP to gain points after and it was before the XP nerf. That’s not comparable at all.
And yet there is still no update on Elite Specs and Hero Points.
So much for this being a GRIND FREE game.
What? How much story do you want? Tell me any any mmo with story that you can’t beat longer than this, oh wait, other mmorpg don’t even have personal story.
Now that is complete crap. SWTOR is a story-driven MMO and it’s impossible to beat the story mode in one day.
For people who keep claiming that others want everything given to them, I hope I can put that one response to bed:
I am fine working and waiting for ascended gear.
I am fine working and waiting for skins.
I am fine working and waiting for a title.
I am fine working and waiting for masteries.
I am fine working and waiting to unlock playable content (ex: fractals).I’m fine working and waiting for basically anything except:
Traits and skills, i.e., builds
exotic gear.I don’t want everything, most people posting agree with the above, so please stop with the we want everything handed to us crap, we don’t.
People have a specific request: Let us unlock and play with the elite specs and go through the expac with that spec. It’s not asking everything, it’s asking for that one thing only.
I actually don’t want everything handed to me, in fact I want the opposite: I’d like to progress and work towards many different goals, at my own pace, using the build I want.
If they would just make elite specs a 60 hp unlock like the rest 99% of the qq about HoT would be gone instantly. It is all people are asking for, and it’s very reasonable.
Yes but some people want progression, and its not progression if you get your heroic spec immediately.
That’s what masteries are for.
5/10.
Heart of Thorns is way too grindy and completely contradicts what the devs said at PAX and other game shows to hype the expansion up. While the new maps are extremely complicated in design and difficulty, it becomes pretty clear early on that you will have to grind the same events over and over to progress to other areas.
Do I even need to explain the ridiculous concept of hero point challenges? You better get a group who is willing to do those otherwise you are screwed for 90% of them. I bought this expansion for the elite specs and the new area. At this point, all I’m left with is a big 50$ grind disguised as content.
SWTOR is releasing a new expansion that is free for subscribers in 3 days. I think I’m going back to that for a while.
There is no grind in Guild Wars 2. Colin said so. :/
I’m sure that, when they’ll realize that if people wanted to play another wow clone, wow is still online… and players will just come back to it, so HoT will end losing both gw veterans AND wow-ers, we’ll see a manifesto 2.0 and another 180degrees change of direction.
And I won’t buy HoT or play gw2 until that moment
Going back to WoW is a good choice, if you can’t handle some real tough gameplay that takes more than mindless walkthrough to unlock everything.
They might leave ? Good… less weaklings to worry about.
This is what MMORGP is about: grind, grind and I forgot to mention of course GRIND !
The best of all ? I do not even play that much now as I used to. Job, social stuff etc… I bet I am not the only one that likes the hard long and seemingly boring grind. You don’t need to be an elitist no-life to handle it. Just slowly soak in and admire what you have.
Only the most pursuing and unyielding will deserve the elite specs and masteries.
If you can’t handle it then ask for help, aid others so that they might get to places they can’t. If you stay here and complain, then wait until it gets easier (doubt it) or look for other games.
Then why did the Guild Wars 2 team say they want to maintain a no-grind philosophy back when Heart of Thorns was first announced?
I use d/p + sb DA/SA/TR pvp standard build with thief guild and sofar it works well in the new pve content.
much better than DrD or Staff or DrD + Staff actually.
Another thing you could try is s/d DrD but I do not like this playstyle and therefore did not try this.
Wow… D/p Is awesome in the new content. Thank you so much! You rock!
So I just bought HoT and I’m getting destroyed by mobs. I run the normal D/D Shortbow Scholar/Zerker and clearly I’m too squishy to survive.
Is there any non-DD builds that could help me at least survive things like hero challenges and events?
Now, I’m happy that thief has finally got a little love. I got my kitten exploded by a trapper thief in sPvP. And I shrugged. Probably a little ridiculous given they did a 17k crit shot from halfway across the map, but meh. I should have seen it coming and spammed all my dodges and blocks. Or something. Plus I know the cooldown on those traps. Fun gimmick but he wasn’t going to do it again soon. And I got him with some cheap tricks that only Rev can do the next time he tried it. Might be more mad if I hadn’t been rev, come to think of it.
But when a daredevil can do 15k damage to me in about three staff attacks WHILE I’M BLOCKING, there’s something a little wrong about the class. Sure, have unblockable things (Steal for one, and Mug should crit). But don’t have them be able to do that much damage through blocks.
Sounds like you just aren’t very good. Sorry your OP Warrior isn’t part of the meta.
This is supposed to be a grind-free game. Why are you defending A-Net for falling back on their promises?
I wish I could upvote you a billion times for using Jay.
This happens every time, don’t give in to people complaining. People will complain about things they can not finish in a few hours and theu find many reason to justify how they don’t want play the game but want evwrything unlocked.
Anet please stand your ground, if you nerf it. The same people saying it took too long and grindy will leave in a week while yelling expansion is too easy and there is nothing to do.
This is supposed to be a grind-free game. Why are you defending A-Net for falling back on their promises?
This is not about entitlement or free-handouts. This is about holding a company responsible for lying to customers. People have every right to be mad at A-Net right now.
(edited by nikdik.1934)
So you want to be handed everything correct? That’s what ur asking for? Cause that’s what it sounds like.
Nice strawman fallacy.
He never said he wanted everything handed to him, he said the amount of work required to get the Espec is ridiculous, which it is. Most people knew that they had to earn the specs, but the sheer amount of hours this will take was NOT advertised.
The fact that legendaries will take a long time to create WAS advertised.
If the Espec had required a total of, say, 200 HPs to unlock, that would still require an amount of work and mastery gain but it would be much more fair than what is currently required.
Your right. Let’s just get everything at launch right away. It’s only fair cause that’s what we “paid” for. Yeah I change my mind. I to want to throw a fit because the game is making me work towards something rather than mindlessly running around the silverwastes all day. You changed my opinion completely. Thanks man! :/
He never said he wanted everything handed to him. Now you are just putting words in his mouth and you sound like a fanboy.
Wait, so can someone clarify this for me? I will not be able to level and clear the map as a Reaper? I have to essentially clear the whole map plus extra stuff in HOT and be max level before I can play as the class I want to be?
Unfortunately, yes. A-Net doesn’t care. They have your money already and there isn’t a single thing you or I can do about it. Buy something from the Gem Store. That will cheer you up.
“this is all part of our no-grind philosophy for Guild Wars 2.”
Okay Colin. Then why do I have to keep doing the same events over and over because Elite specs are locked behind a tedious grind?
The entitlement is strong in this one.
You could set your watch to the timing of these threads.
LOVE the fact I gotta bit of work to do to unlock my specs (I’ll be maxing out 9) and that its gonna take some time. Gonna keep me entertained for ages. ????
You’re entertained by doing the same thing over and over? Isn’t that… a grind??? I thought Colin said Guild Wars 2 is a no-grind game.

The Mastery System is Arena Nets way of increasing the level cap without actually increasing the level cap. If you think of it that way, it makes sense why continuing through the story requires mastery levels.
Think of it this way, do you get to fight Zhaitan at level 1? No. In fact, most of your personal story comes in “chunks” and you have to level up between story missions.
This is the same exact thing as leveling to continue your personal story.
Because you have to grind them… Colin said this was a no-grind philosophy game. When you go back on a promise, people have the right to be mad.

A-Net is tricking people into thinking this expansion is worth 50$. It’s just a shameless grind and a broken promise on their part. No grind philosophy my kitten .

(edited by nikdik.1934)
you can just make DryTop/Silverwastes 2.0 and lock all of the new features behind a tedious grind in a “no grind philosphy game”? Brilliant work A-Net.
Oh yeah, and I have yet to see any soloable content in HoT except for the first couple of story missions. After that, you have to grind masteries to move forward.
Keep breaking promises A-Net. As long as the Gem Store is making you money right?
(edited by nikdik.1934)
I think it’s fair to say the majority of GW2 players have not had sufficient life experience to arrive to this conclusion, and honestly, I don’t imagine it will make any difference to read it without seeing it first-hand… but let me try to explain how it is that I never find myself up in arms about anything regarding this game. (Not anymore, that is.)
If I am not mistaken, ArenaNet has made it fairly clear what their objective is in producing this game, and it can be summed up nicely in this quote that I recall seeing more than once from various members of the team:
“It’s not about the destination; it’s about the journey.”
Aside from being a profound nugget of wisdom, this approach is evident in the expansion content. It will take more than a few hours to do much of anything, and that’s the bloody point, because when you do finally achieve whatever it is you’re working toward, it’s still nothing more than bits on a server. You don’t get a sensory or monetary reward, or even so much as a pat on the back here in the real world. So why are you doing it?
Think of it this way: when the day finally comes that you stop playing this game, who is going to give a flying kitten how many legendary weapons you had? Or if you unlocked all the elite specs? Or got whatever particular thing you have your sights set on? The obvious answer is literally nobody. You aren’t playing because it gets you anything in real life. You aren’t playing because you’re trying to make a fortune and send your future grandchildren to college. You’re playing because it’s a kitten game, and that’s what games are for.
So, at the end of the day, the whole purpose of it all is purely diversion. And that is what you have been given. You may take it or leave it, for as long as you wish, however it suits you and your own personal circumstances in life. You may even find it simply isn’t worth your time or money to play this game, and if that’s the case, well, you shouldn’t be playing.
All of you who have taken it upon yourselves to cry outrage over the amount of time it takes to do X, Y, or Z, all that amounts to is petty signaling. You just want to show you have principles that you refuse to lapse. But that means nothing. The reality is that I have chosen to be satisfied by this game, with all its ups and downs, because the only thing I seek from it is to be entertained, and for as long as I am entertained, I will continue to enjoy it.
I urge any of you who are unsatisfied with the game to consider this perspective. It has rid me of the self-imposed burden of being upset about nothing, and I’m sure it can do the same for you.
Or you are one of those people who had 400 hero points and are waving the elite spec in everyone’s face.

Do Hero Challenges on the really empty maps.
Don’t play then. The rest of us are having fun.
If you’re having fun, you wouldn’t be trolling the forums now would you?
What, were you expecting it to be handed to you at the beginning? And if it was, wouldn’t you then proceed to not do anything in the new maps and complain there’s nothing to do?
Not all of us have time to grind up 400 hero points to unlock an elite spec, especially when the expansion map is empty.
Locking promised content behind a ridiculous, time-consuming routine is a grind A-Net.
I knew this would happen. I have a set of Ascended armor just waiting to be crafted once I see what the best Thief stats are.
A lot of salty Thief haters on this thread. Sounds like a Lrn 2 Play issue to me.
The right to exist and to love someone is not a political agenda. Get your head out of your cat.
Err, I mean, kitten. Meow.
Who are you to tell me where I put my head? Typical “SJW” hypocrisy
You just opened the door to every politically correct, kitten white knight keyboard SJW.
The politics you are talking about are Tumblr politics. They never go away.
Even if Thief gets Staff first, it’s safe to say they will get Rifle as one elite spec somewhere down the road. I like the sound of both tbh.
If Thieves get rifle, I want P/P to be given some love as well. A gunslinger elite spec would be awesome.
I have no problem with melee staff either.
Either way, A-Net is getting a kick out of the forums because they know HoT isn’t coming until 2016.
Dont think Anet gonna give broken stealth class 1200m sniper rifle O.O
We get it. You suck at Warrior.
(edited by nikdik.1934)
I bet A-NET hasn’t even started work on the Warrior, Thief and Engi elite specs yet. With how slow things are going and the lack of legitimate updates on the game’s progress, I’m not optimistic about HoT releasing this year.
Why wouldn’t we get one?
I think a better question would be like this: When will it be?
January 2016.
Heaven forbid a game titled “GUILD WARS” draw inspiration from real WARS OP. Jesus Christ, do you want to replace swords with candy canes next because people used swords in real wars?
At this point, probably Thanksgiving. With how little content this expansion has the devs are sure taking their sweet time releasing it.
There isn’t going to be any update from the devs until Gamescom. The release date will be March 2016 with limited communication until that point. While you wait,, you can keep grinding the Silverwastes or hop on the WvW zerg train.
I would be happy with staff or rifle for my Thief. I’m still salty about my P/P build being nerfed into nothing.
I can easily think of one. Ricochet.
The only thing p/p lost was a tiny bit of range, and ricochet.
So what exactly is left??? Those two were what made the build somewhat effective.
So much for build diversity. P/P was a lot of fun.
When do we have access to our elite specs ? This is the only thing i care…
If we are lucky, Christmas.
Well it’s not like you have 8 other Professions to pick from or anything…
Warriors aren’t OP at all already… Oh wait…
/S
I think Power, Condi damage and Ferocity would be too strong on some professions.
And Berserker isn’t for pretty much EVERY profession? You probably run full Zerker and are afraid of losing your meta. :P
Because the only reason you need a hat is if you have cancer. A-Net is appealing to the chemo niche
As President Frank Underwood said, “You are entitled to NOTHING.”
Leave it to A-net to nerf a fun but completely underpowered build.
