I once put a laugh track on sitcom with no jokes.
I don’t like gold sellers either but I haven’t been harassed by one in months so they must be doing something about it.
Meh, it could still happen.
No offense intended, but why does anyone care? As far a gay rights go, I simply don’t care, but I might care a bit more if I didn’t have the culture shoved down my throat every thirty seconds in virtually every form of media I encounter.
Because the gay community hasn’t had straight culture shoved down their throats in virtually every form of media they encounter.
Why do these threads even exist when it’s clear that LGBT is an absolute non-issue in the scope of lore?
You’re right, I too am sick and tired of straight pride parades, months, and support groups at my university who are always harassing me about straight rights….
I quite like the way the ladies hold the GS. The dude way doesn’t bother me either for that matter.
Someone suggested that I post this here—partially because I’m interested in Anet’s answer to this.
I realize that the intentionally inflammatory title of this post makes me look like a crying SJW, but you gotta admit it’s noticeable. A good 60-70 percent of human NPCs are white, when most humans live in Kryta, and ethnic Krytans are very much brown, or at least they were 200 years ago.
SJWs call this whitewashing—turning things white because white is “default” and “relatable.”
Someone on Reddit said it much better than me:
Hsere 6 points 6 hours ago (6|0)Ehh, in some cases it does, but not here. Here’s the thing; the paleness of the GW2 Krytans isn’t just a lack of representation; it’s also a lore error. Usually with complaints like OP’s, I hesitate to agree — it’s a fantasy analogue to Western Europe, most people will be pale.
But Krytans are the descendents of a mix of settlers from Elona (GW1’s fantasy analogue to Africa) and Ascalonian (Europe analogue) refugees. So given what we know about GW2’s history, most Krytans actually should have Queen Jenna’s coffee-and-cream coloration, and there should be smaller numbers of really pale or really dark people. I’d also like to see more mixing of Ascalonian and Elonan architecture, culture, etc. in Kryta. But we don’t really get that.
Like I said earlier, with complaints like OP’s, I usually hesitate to agree. And that’s because the creator of the work (GW2, in this case) is generally being asked to alter (or sometimes even undermine) their world’s lore for the sake of inclusion and representation — which are, of course, good goals, but not the primary goal of the person telling the story.
But in this case, the opposite is true — we have a lack of cultural/aesthetic diversity not because of the lore, but despite it. So in this case, I think it’s much more fair to say that the writers/devs have made an error.
It also seems like a real missed opportunity to showcase GW2’s message of “we are stronger together than apart.” And that’s a shame.
Here’s another post from reddit:

In GW1, Kryta was the place you fled to from Generic Fantasy Europe.
In GW2, Kryta is the new Generic Fantasy Europe.
[edit] I should clarify, this is not a rant – this is what I believe to be the reason for this change.[–]tawaradan [+1] 16 points 17 hours ago (21|5)
Seriously, this was one of the coolest parts of GW1 to me. You start the game off in a pretty idyllic, generic Northern European fantasy country… and then they blow that place the kitten up at the end of the tutorial, and all that’s left is a blasted hellscape, and everything from humanity after that drew from very different real-world sources than typical western fantasy fare. It kept things fresh.Seeing Kryta whitewashed so hard in GW2 was a major disappointment to me. Especially since we still had Ebonhawke and the ruins of Ascalon, so it’s not like they were forced to remove most of Kryta’s identity if they wanted to put in some Ascalonian architecture and people.
Mind you, for various reasons also discussed in the reddit comments, there are some reasonable explanations. Mainly, ethnic Krytans might not be as dominant of a population any more, what with their capital city being wiped out and all the other crap that has happened to them—along with the fact that Ascalonians were possibly a more advanced culture.
But even if we accept one or more of these explanations, a lot of the human population is very white, and those who aren’t unmistakably white in color are much fairer than you’d expect from someone with an even split of Ascalonian and Krytan blood.
Mind you, Anet has also done a good job of diversity and all that other SJW bullkittenery in other ways—I’m sure everyone’s sick of hearing about how great Marjory and Kasmeer are. But compared to the first Guild Wars, we’re seeing some faux pas in their stance toward “people of color.”
(I hate that term.)
Illegal immigrants from Ascalon. Obviously.
No offense intended, but why does anyone care? As far a gay rights go, I simply don’t care, but I might care a bit more if I didn’t have the culture shoved down my throat every thirty seconds in virtually every form of media I encounter.

Borlis seems to be pretty bad at now.
The ending video for Battle for L.A. hinted to me that a new dragon was imminent; what I’m wondering is whether or not it will be implemented living story style or personal story style. Thoughts?
1st Tyria problems.
My experiences are that the game is extremely far from dying. People have just moved away from the content that most new people are entering.
I don’t mind level increases as long as it doesn’t mean stat increases.
I didn’t even notice the change. As such I am extremely indifferent.
My main is an ele. It’s like having a bidet everywhere you go!
Thank you from Borlis Pass!
Will we ever see a Portuguese language translation? I’d love to see that.
I happen to know what it is.
Guild Wars 2……IN SPACE
Only about 800 hours. :/ Dunno on my other account, not nearly as much though.
My guess is they kinda ran out of time before they could fully implement the system. Here’s to hoping they have more time in the future…
I’ve seen people express that they love grieving players until they rage quit. Often enough that it’s becoming quite a disturbing trend. Is this the type of people that play MMO’s? Being my first one, I’m really wondering if MMO’s are filled with kittenbags or not?
Especially, as an American, helping others should come as second nature. It’s how we’re raised in my part of the states.
So the question is, is causing misery part of the MMO motif?
Grief really should be a non issue, especially in a game like this. If someone is being obnoxious, just block them.
This really sums up the argument. There is nothing inherently sexual about clothing or even the lack thereof. It is the actions of a person that determine how they should be seen and treated. Now historically, at least in this country, revealing clothes started to be associated with hookers and whatnot because that is what a lot of them wore. In this game however, none of the characters in the game perform any actions that would get them labeled as sexual objects, and therefore should not immediately be assumed that’s what they are.
I’m going to disagree with that. While it is true that many of the women in this game are portrayed normally. The fact that sexy outfits had to be included for women, but not for men, shows that video games still haven’t gotten over the “women are hot” phase yet. It is objectification of women. And it has been going on for a very long time now. I encourage many of you to watch this video from Extra Credits regarding women in video games. It might open your eyes to what we’re objecting to:
I watched the whole video (that guys voice is massively obnoxious) and from what I could tell, he doesn’t care if the girls are hot in the game, he is worried about how they are marketed in the games. Now last time I checked, Guild Wars 2 did a fantastic job of not plastering boobies all over their promotional material. Sooo…what’s the problem with this game here?
(edited by phlemhacker.1372)
That’s the thing when it comes to revealing clothing.. People get all hyped up, saying it’s sexual and it’s provocative, but really…
It’s because you viewed it as sexual and provocative..
Skin =/= sexualIt just means you don’t like the revealing of other people’s skin and you’re just feel uncomfortable about revealing skin (whether it’s yourself or others), or simply you have no self control but to look at it in a sexual way..
It’s only sexual if you look at it like so..
(same goes if you make everything into a sexual joke.. ANYTHING CAN BE MADE INTO A SEXUAL JOKE IF YOU’RE CREATIVE ENOUGH.. xD)
This really sums up the argument. There is nothing inherently sexual about clothing or even the lack thereof. It is the actions of a person that determine how they should be seen and treated. Lets be perfectly honest here. The majority of victims from domestic abuse ARE women.
While I concede women are more likely to suffer nastier forms of domestic violence, quantitatively though, a lot of research shows the numbers are indeed pretty equal in initiating said violence.
I vote elegance instead of skimpy!
There is no reason skimpy armor cannot be elegant at the same time.
Edit: Due to boredom I have read the majority of this thread, and I gotta say, this is an entire college philosophy class right here. Seriously.

To me the personality system seems like it is a bit underutilized. At the moment for example, from what I can tell, (and barely tell I can) the personality system only seems to affect the odd NPC dialogue selection when chatting someone up. What I would really love to see is the personality system affect the dialogue in the cut scenes, or even the missions themselves in the personal story. As it stands your character has the same personality in the personal story regardless of whether or not you are Barbaric or Captivating when interacting with NPCs, and that leaves it feeling a bit…disjointed I guess might be the term.
TL;DR: Have the personality system affect the personal story!
I want weapon swapping, but only out of combat.
Likely by paying attention when it doesn’t go up the first time.
This must be a troll post, play as children who can’t die and a dedicated healer class? No way. Also, creepy.
My guess is dragon lieutenants and crap like that.
Okay I realize you guys wanted to change it up but now you pretty much limited the daily to people or kids that have nothing to do with their time all day.
I’m a father of 2 with a pregnant wife my time during the week is limited as I look forward too the weekends to play with some friends online.
The newly daily just totally screwed me over now, as it was I used to wake up do my daily and pretty much get ready for work and head out. This is impossible now quite frankly entirely unfair. You’re going to punish a person that can’t devote more than a couple hours a day.
The mystic forge is pretty dumb too although I guess I’ll just use blues for now on on that one lol
Keg brawler? I just don’t have time for this stuff till weekend. Thanks Anet to be sympathetic to the working class people that play your game they’re also the ones that buy the most gems and in game store content looks like I’ll stop buying them too. By the way statistics show that 57% of today’s gamer’s are 30 years or older with an average of 12 years playing games. Good marketing there lol.
You are just making up problems. It took me 15 mins to do the daily today. In the time it took you to log onto the forums, and post this, you could have been done. Jesus Christ.
Complain more. It is sure to help.
I was also impressed to see you in a custom armor set that didn’t involve trying to show as much skin as possible.
I can say that I’m really really proud of her, however, your character is awesome too!
Other than the pupils having a really light color, you get 9.9/10 from me.Bonus points for whoever knows whom my armor set is referencing!
Lol’d hard at the conversation in that picture.
so you completely ignore my 3 questions and just answer the last question…. wow your helpful.
Help yourself by logging on and finding out on your own. God forbid you spend some time logging on and playing.
I wouldn’t mind something like this at all. It would finally give me a reason to actually use town clothes. :l
As someone who is working on a set of T3(missing just the headgear), please, please, please, leave the price (Or if you lower it, give me a refund).
You are paying for the looks, not the functionality; it gives something to work towards. If it was easy to get, it would suddenly not have any point.
I am working on the T3, the only thing I am missing is the headgear. Is it worth it? The answer is: OH MY GOD YES!
I’d like to see some legendary armor. Rather have that than weapons.
Personal story/cinematics: HORRIBLE
Ambient scenes and events: AWESOMEI still can’t believe the difference. Possibly two different teams?
Yes. Separate teams handled writing the different content types leading up to ship. That is no longer the case. My team is now responsible for the final output of all text and VO in the game, and I am now fully responsible for the quality. As a result of this change, I am now empowered to take the writing and VO in a direction that’s more consistent with the ambient scenes and events.
Personally, my biggest concern with the voice acting in this game is the lack of variety of accents. EVERYONE in the game sounds american, and they all speak in AMERCIAN english rather than British english, or just pronounce words how people would pronounce them if they had come from the same part of america. Prime examples are “CenTAR instead of CenTOUR” (thats the main one I can think of off the top of my head because it is said so much) but I have noticed many, many others that could have more diversity to them in order to add to the immersion. (Imagine if every english speaking person in the world said things exactly the same)
That’s not entirely true. We have a number of non-American accents in the game that are delivered by natural speakers. Here’s a small list as an example (but there are more).
- Robin Atkin Downes
- Gideon Emery
- Jane Windsor
- Roberto Medina
- Lin Gallagher
- Jenny Veal
- Etc.
Also, the game is made in America, we write it in American English, and most of our actors live in Los Angeles. That stated, I agree that we could use some more vocal diversity in the game, but I don’t want Guild Wars 2 to sound like every other fantasy title out there with the standard British accents on every character. So aside from more British accents, what other types of voices would you like to hear?
I’d love to hear some Brazilian accents. That would be an epic win.
I think the human female voice is pretty good, but every now in then in a cut-scene, she says something that sounds ’cartman’s mom-like’ and I start busting out laughing. anyone else do the same? (same thing happened in GW1)
Mine all look mid-twenties or so.
I’d love to see Cantha remade, but to be honest, I’d rather see an entirely new continent first.
Yes.
That said, I would rather there be no level cap at all. I think there should be a cap on stats, just not levels.
I read this part and was like “This is an awesome idea! I like this guy!”
That way you have a better idea of how long everyone has been playing. That was one of the things that bothered me about GW1, you would go to play some max level content, and half your party didn’t know how to play the game.
Then I read this part and was like
You should still think it is a good idea regardless of whether or not you like the motivation behind it.
Yes.

Nough my god…
Go to the other zone. There is stuff going on there, it’ll be obvious.
Cool story bro. There’s the door.
Does anyone know if those keyboards that attach to the 360 controllers are also mappable?
