I love all the people who complain about elementalist downed abilities, omg were free kill waiting to happen… thiefs and mesmers have awseme downed abilities. It also doesnt take an army of 3+ people to kill a thief or a mesmer. I could only immagine a bunker healing spec ele having even 1 good downed ability giving a teamate time to res them only to have them use a “weapon ability” to bring them back to full health.
How about we make a trade u can have my thiefs stealth on downed and you give me ur 5k heal on 20s cd i think thats fair,
Are you nuts? Why are you asking us to give you normal state skills and giving us downed state skill? I will give you my heals then you give me the shadow refuge and stealth heals and other stealth stuffs that guarantee you to escape from almost all situations. Deal?
@Xandax
We are already seeing very strange stuff under the current siege system, nearly for a month and half. And you are still talking about no change is needed. No, it’s time to change something and observe its outcome.
If Arenanet allowed everyone to fly it would not be a hack.
I bet they will invent some sort of hack that makes you walk then. We are going to scream like a little girl “WHAAAAAAAT?! They are walking like a morons!!”
I think you are making very good points here. I’m another one who believes that defend the towers and keeps should be a lot easier than now, where siege them should be way harder. The details should be adjusted, but the general point of your suggestion is something I truly agree to.
Honestly we shouldn’t have expected WvW so much, at least not like this much. People complaining about WvW so much because our expectation was too high, when Anet doesn’t give a kitten on WvW improvement since it was meant to be casual and experimental contents. Now I’m going to think in that way. It makes more sense to me. Time to lower our expectation towards WvW.
I’d like to clarify this: I wish WvW improvements more than any of you. I am serious, and I am that desperate(lol) because simply no other option left for me. Field pvp is pretty much dead on every mmorpg’s. They are just dying… and I guess you guys are one of the people who really missed field pvp so started guild wars 2 to play wvw, just like me. So let me say that again: I really wish WvW gets better. I don’t want to be negatory… Anet is making me to be one. I thought I was going to read some plan on wvw improvement on the recent post of the blog. They have shown to us 0 interest about wvw. It really made me frustrated.
They’ve shown us plenty of interest and passion in WvW. Unfortunately, interest and passion doesn’t translate into competence.
They only talk about esports and spvp at lunch, not about wvw. This is an official btw not my delusion :P

I miss Ultima Online if you know what I mean. I really miss that game… and its harsh field environment that made my hearts pound every single moments. Setup pvp can suck it. No thrill in spvp.
After roaming empty-like borderlands for hours and reading an article about big picture of spvp, it’s about time to face the truth. Guild Wars 2 is mainly designed for spvp, not wvw. Good arena pvp is what they want to make, like their company name ’Arena’net(omg), and wvw is meant to be casual contents.
WvW is obviously not a good contents for eSports as we acknowledge for sure, and I assume 95% of Anet developers are working on exclusively spvp, not wvw. What it means – either we should find a chance we will learn to love the spvp, or suck things up.
I find this very painful as a pvper who loves field pvp and hates arena(setup) pvp, but what choices do I have. I’d like to blame those game companies that don’t make a decent field pvp focused mmorpg anymore.
It’s a sad day.

Oh yeah… maybe I shouldn’t have mixed different weapon skills altogether :P
(edited by rekina.6078)
Interesting idea, but I doubt if it is working idea. The basic idea of weapon skills in GW2 is not allowing us to choose or modify weapon skill set on our own.
However, I find your idea sounds very fun. I am using d/d condition build, so that I came up with this skill set.
1. Stone Shard (best bleeding skill imo)
2. Drake’s Breath (bread and butter burning skill for me)
3. Burning Speed (damage/dash) or Water Trident (healing)
4. Ride The Lightning
5. Cleansing Wave (healing/condition cure) or Fire Grab (damage)
For power build
1. Fireball (1200 range) or Arc Lightning
2. Dragon’s Tooth (with Earthquake/Updraft) or Cone of Cold (healing/damage)
3. Phoenix (best scepter skill imo) or Burning Speed (damage/dash)
4. Ride The Lightning or Earthquake (with Dragon’s Tooth)
5. Cleansing Wave (healing) or Updraft (with Dragon’s Tooth)
This makes me fun just for thinking about it
But, yeh. This change will make us less versatile profession, even though those skills get boosted. Obviously fun idea though.
You will find leveling up as ele is getting more difficult. There are few ways to make it relatively easy tho.
1. I’m told non-condition build Sceptor/Dagger is quite easy to leveling. Why non-condition? Because you will face a bunch of condition immune mobs in late leveling. There are no damage immune mob where they only take condition damage. This is not cool. (I entirely leveled up with double daggers condition build)
2. Upgrade your gears as your level goes up. Don’t forget the underwater weapon if you are planning to level around watery areas.
3. Typically people say between 20 to 40 is very hard to level for some reasons. I find this too. I have no idea why, but things kick your butt very often in this level. Of course things even getting worse after 40 only because you are ele but anyways.
Long story short, after you hit 80 and are properly geared, ele is not much broken. However I’ve seen so many enemy eles fail quickly. I sometimes kill enemy 80 level ele without losing more than 2k health… which is both weird and sad. I don’t know if you will be one of them or decent ele. I wish you become a decent player.
Here’s an improvement I’d like to see to the windborne dagger skill …
Movement skills break immobilize when a main hand dagger is equiped.
Well I’d like to see the original Windborne Dagger effect actually kicks before we talking about any improvement
Let’s assume your theory is true(because I honestly have no idea whether it is true or not). Try to use Magnetic Grasp when you are little closer to target then. You are aware of what the problem is, then you can fix it yourself. Pretend its range is not 900, but somewhat between 600-700. Also knowing some tips will significantly increase the odds of grasping the target, such as using it after observing the target uses up its endurances, or use quick gap closer (any dash skills or Lightning Flash) right before use Magnetic Grasp.
600-700 range is really not that bad with gap closer skills. With RTL > Lightning Flash > Magnetic Grasp, we can cover nearly 2800 or even more range in a few seconds. Magnetic Grasp should be the last gap closer you use, unless you are sure the target will be grabbed. A lot of skills are projectiles. Magnetic Grasp is just one of those projectile skills.
About Impale, I feel so much empathy with you. I know its frustration. I had so many experiences where I only hit the ground their behind while they running away – it’s because we are using dagger on our main hand. Like I stated on the last post, I believe it’s the cross we should bear. We are using daggers after all. Thankfully, we have some options to overcome the situation. We can use Lightning Flash to close the gap quickly and spam Impale on the target again, or we can switch attunement to fire and use Burning Speed then own them with whatever your combo.
PS: Oh I just realized I really didn’t catch your point red. Increasing animation speed would be not bad at all, as long as it keeps its spec(rof, damage, bleed stack etc). Boy, it will be sweet.
(edited by rekina.6078)
Refutation to red
- 400 range for dagger weapon is too long. We already have long enough range(300~600) considering our weapon is dagger. Also faster Impale would be too op.
- Fire attunement is doing fine damage overall, while lightning attunement has been done relatively lower damage. Lightning Whip buff gave us little bit more damage option when we are attuned to lightning. Let’s take that and not ask more.
- Almost all dash skills have 600 ish range except few skills. 600 is fair enough. Also we have Ride The Lightning for main dash skill(even though it often drives me rage). Some professions don’t even have 1200 range dash skills, remember. We already have very good dash skill. Moreover, if you change Burning Speed’s current dash range, you will have even harder time to ‘hit’ enemies sometimes.
- Shocking Aura already has very short cooldowns. Frost Aura is the one which has slightly longer cooldowns. I honestly don’t think it matters though.
- Magnetic Grasp is good enough skill itself. It doesn’t need to be changed. However, the bug that stuns ourselves should be fixed asap.
- Vapor Blade indeed has low damage. I’d also like to see slight damage buff of this. Frozen Burst, which I’m told Hydromancy Sigil deals even more damage than this skill, can be slightly buffed as well, but since its main purpose is chilling so I don’t care the damage tbh.
- Seriously, no. We are one of the few professions that has numerous healing skills already. Devs want to nerf our healing skills atm. I don’t want it gets nerfed, but also don’t expect healing coefficient would even goes up.
Your ideas generally making dagger skills to overpowered. I personally don’t think dagger skills need that many changes or buff. Although damage buff for Vapor Blade would be sweet. It does too low damage atm.
So some of you would agree that WvW has a lot of fail conceptions. I honestly don’t think devs will give a kitten on this suggestion since there are tons of different suggestions have made already, and referring to devs recent post, they hardly listen to us. Nevertheless, let me point out some ideas that I’ve noticed while playing WvW and reading the forum.
1. Reduce importance of siege.
Current WvW is all about siege and repeat it endlessly. The number of towers/keeps the server has is prior to everything else. This eliminates some options we could have gotten on the WvW field, such as sporadic small engagements, because being in a larger group is much effective for quick siege and getting more points. This will not only solve current point-rely system that make people giving up too early, but also make things more interesting than repeating siege over and over for months.
In fact there are still small engagements are going. However, the small-sized roaming group often gets demolished by larger group of people, or zergs if you will, which brings another problem.
2. Expand WvW map size and diversify them.
There are 4 maps on WvW field. 3 of them are Borderlands, and one of them is Eternal Battleground. The Eternal Battleground is designed for offering experiences of very intensive siege circumstances with numerous numbers of towers/keeps and castle in an extremely tight field.
What about people those who wants to roam larger field and looking for decent fights? Sadly, 3 Borderlands can’t be your answer. Those borderlands are slightly larger than the Eternal Battleground, but it is still very small field. With decent swiftness and few dash abilities, it takes no more than 3-4 minutes to cross the map vertically. Considering the number of people one borderland potentially can hold, the map is so small. We simply can’t avoid massive engagements, and that limits our enjoyment.
Moreover, those 3 borderlands map are exactly the same. There are no difference between 3 fields whatsoever except the little tweaks of landmarks name. Even those MMOs which were launched at early 2000s had PvP fields that have different environments. 3 same borderlands are just lame.
Diversify and expanding borderlands may help to fix following issue.
3. Give some time to defence force before the keeps being sieged so that they can gathering forces up.
Often sieging keeps in WvW is nothing more than fight against npcs, especially for night caps. No one likes to fight npcs all night.
Give defenders some time so that they can gather up people and prepare for the defences. Adding some indicators would be great and will do its job. For example, the indicator locates on somewhere on the screen, regardless you are in a PvE zone or WvW zone, you will see very simple indicator that shows you how things going on the WvW and which keep is under the siege. Say you have 15 minutes before the siege actually starts. You have time to go the borderland and gather your forces up against the attackers. Also, being in a different borderland will make some interesting situations where attackers should consider different positions to place siege weapons, and defenders should replace their siege weapons accordingly.
This will solve some night cap problem, both for defenders and attackers. Defenders can catch some break between sieges and hold attackers speed little bit, which will reduce the odds one server dominates all the borderlands in a single night and prevent losing server people from premature giving up. For attackers, of course, they will have more chance to fight against people, not just the stupid guards.
For day capping, 15 minutes delay would be unnecessary, but 5-10 minutes of delaying would help to speed down dominating going on some servers.
I feel like I wrote too much for one thread so I’d like to stop here. There is no TL;DR so read ‘em all or quit. I don’t expect much things from suggesting these stuff as I specified on the top, but will gladly read your interesting ideas and refutations.
(edited by rekina.6078)
Move to those low pop servers. It should solve your problem. If you still want to stay in winning server, wait 2 hours everytime you d/c. Your choice. I think the answer is pretty obvious here.
And while you’re at it, tie on a trait change with the gear switch. So you could for instance, immediately stop your open world experiences to do a dungeon or w3.
It’s too much.
One thing that I most hate about GW2 is the forum moderators and communication coordinators. They lock, delete, and close all the thread they either don’t like, or hate to read because the tone of thread is kinda judging them, or criticizing, whatever the reason, they delete your thread. Even if you added ‘please’ on the topic, it won’t extend your thread lifespan because they will see through it that your tone is still somewhat sarcastic.
Oh yeah let me stick with your topic btw otherwise they will delete my post again. My point is: Yes I agree.
(edited by rekina.6078)
Don’t worry, they will nerf elementalist’s heals then the playstyle won’t be available anymore.
Which will lead you to the glory. I wish.
At this point I’m pretty sure all the game designers play thief because they are neither watching all the semi-perma stealth that shadow refuge offers nor infinite dodges and survivability.
One option left: Let’s play a thief then we will never have a ballance issue. What an ideal life would it be.
I actually lol’d in real. I’d rather consider your marriage as very enviable. At least you can throw up all your stresses by killing each other… or killing her one sidedly. Let her own you sometimes. That would keep your marriage long enough and happy
I’ve seen one podcast(somewhat videocast, whatever) that some elementalist players talking about class, skill, trait and build stuff. They, or at least one of them said, Drake’s Breath is worthless.
They were douch*bags, seriously. They had no idea what they were talking about. I assume some of us got inspired by them.
Those weapon swapping sigils only trigger their effects when you are in a combat situation.
I know that…
Then tbh I have no idea what is going on. You should have at least 1 of the effects, like someone already said on the above, only 1 swap sigil works. Which means, you still gotta have 1 effect on in normal situation…
(edited by rekina.6078)

Looks like Lightning Surge became another waste of space just like Drake’s Breath.
Who told you Drake’s Breath is waste of space?
Drake’s Breath is bread and butter of playing Elementalist for me. Because you are not playing as condition build, it doesn’t mean the skill itself is waste of space.
End talking. No more words for stupids.
(edited by rekina.6078)
Yes. Nevertheless this is not the case: what we can do is asking anet to buff the skill itself somehow, not asking to regain the infinite range.
Ohhh…. it indeed takes long time to cast. My bad. I’m not familiar with staff yet so didn’t really know what I was saying. Apology. (at least it can be casted while running)
I agree buddy. It’s a crap skill and the only reason anyone was ever using it was because you could exploit it’s brokenness.
I’m not saying it shouldn’t have been fixed, but with the long cast time, weak damage and a crappy blind there’s really no reason to be using it.
Does it have long casting time?! Let me check that I’m logging in…. didn’t know the skill takes long time to cast.
Hate to say this as an elementalist though, bug is bug. They should be fixed, and no skills in the game should have infinite range. Elementalist is no exception for that.
Lightning surge should be just one of the many short casting skill combos we can add between intervals of long casting skills .
Some of you are still thinking I’m talking about builds. I am pointing out capabilities that some professions simply DON’T HAVE at anywhere. I wouldn’t say anything about thief if mesmers can shoot some shadow steps with shortbow somehow and save their kitten I wouldn’t complain anything about thief if elementalists can have stealth and heartseeker-like spell regarding their builds.
It’s not about building. It’s about ‘possibility’. Thieves have options to choose. Others, don’t.
Mesmers have stealth abilities and very strong in small scale fights. Yet, they do not have escape capability like thief has. That’s the downside of playing mesmer. They engage on their own risk, where they ‘know’ they cannot quit the fight and save their lives easily. They can juke you few times, but most of the time they cannot make it.
Elementalists have nice escaping ability, which is Ride The Lightning. However they neither have any stealth access, nor 6 times of dodges in a row. They also have lowest HP pool and lightest armor. Furthermore, they can’t swap weapons fast, so those who use staff and focus on their off-hand, they simply don’t have escape method.
Warriors potentially have nice damage output if their opponents have no stunbreaks, while thieves can spam the heartseeker without any efforts to hold your opponents on the spot. They have good health pool, but they still don’t have enough dodges and escape method. Don’t you think ‘Warriors’ should be the one who have more ‘endurance’ than thieves? In what fantasy universe thieves are more energetic than warriors?
Every other professions have limits. Thief should not be the one exception on this issue. YOU should have some limits as well. Yet, you are the least profession that has many glitching and underpowered issues than any others. You have way more things to be nerfed in near the future. Now, look at what you are asking again.
Think it through.
If I were you, I’d just ask dev to give me one exclusive profession that has most survivability and damage and like 800,000 boss-like health with say 5,000 range, just only for you. How about that. Isn’t sound sweet?
Such strange responses. It’s pretty simple. The OP feels limited by the 900 range on Shortbow attacks. I do too.
Clusterbomb is nice, but it travels slow and really isn’t as devastating as some other posters are saying. Clusterbomb also has a 1200 range, so I really don’t see any reason why not to give Trickshot a 1200 range as well. The only place it will really help is siege battles and make things a little more fun.
EVERY OTHER CLASSES FEEL LIMITS!! Why you can’t stand one single limit when you have multiple dash, 6 or more dodges, guaranteed escaping with stealth, dominating damage with HS, such survivability and versatile utilities? WHAT other classes have those spec in a single profession?
I’m elementalist and I’ll give you fireball skill if you give me heartseeker. Enjoy 1200 range of fireball, or whatever 1200 range skill you want, take it, but just make sure to give me heartseeker and those variety of stealth skills too. Oh and those 6 times of dodges and even more additional evade of short bow 3 etc etc…

No one uses Lightning Flash for just to land Churning Eeath. We use it everywhere. Chasing enemies, making a quick distance from chasers, to land Churning Earth, to break stuns or even immobilize with proper regeneration-condition cure traits. Using utility for just one purpose is a bloody waste of 1) the spell and 2) a utility slot.
Besides, landing Churning Earth can be turning point of the fight. The skill is like a semi-ultimate of daggers. For those who don’t dodge away from the ring of Churning Earth effect, we can save Lightning Flash. For those who dodge away from the ring, we use Lightning Flash and hit them with Churning Earth. Both cases we either saved the utility or used it right. Certainly the enemy can cure the stacks of bleeding though, there are a lot of people who don’t bring enough condition cure ability because they want to hit foes harder with offensive abilities, so landing Churning Earth after they used up condition cure abilities can be lethal to them.
Windborne dagger doesn’t work atm. Please note.
Mesmers…are Mesmers. They can summon a clone that does a lot of damage, and they can replace himself with a downed clone. But you will never know if it is the clone until you finish him and you don’t get any points for it.
You can know it before you stomp it. I don’t know what you are talking about.
its diffinately an exploit. your not able to do any action while in mistform, the only way you can do this is if you use mistform while performing the action becouse it doesnt break it (bad programming), if it was intended you would be able to start the action while you where in mistform
Are you kitten We can even heal or use elite skills while in a mist form.
Do not upgrade all the kitten by yourself. Let other people take some duty as well. Although I don’t understand why Anet made us to spend money to upgrade those stuff, where PvE players don’t have to upgrade those portals and npcs to save the towns.
No.
I loved DAoC than any of you. I guarantee it. I loved the game, but realm rank and abilities and stealthers ruined the game permanently. Do not add any abilities on this game. I mean, NO.
Ban them all. Clear and beautiful solution.
People are just complaining cause they do not win
Are you nuts? Those people are the one who want to stay in the losing server and still looking for improvements and hope by putting their own efforts. You, on the other hand, is the one of the mindless zergs who just want to win without your own efforts and transferring this server to another daily to find out which server is winning alot. You are nothing on your server. Your server will be just fine even if you leave. You won’t change ANYTHING even if you transfer to the losing servers. You are that weak, powerless. Face it.
First of all, I’d like to thank for all hard works that you have done towards WvW, Anet WvW designers(and whoever involved). I am not going to mention those games again that people like to bring up on this forum, but I really missed field pvp where we encounters tons of unexpected situations, not set up pvp where every happening in there can be expected. Those set up pvp was so boring, I assume many of you who played those field pvp focused mmo would agree to this.
So again, I really appreciate for your work and bringing field pvp back to us, and I totally don’t appreciate it.
I don’t want to discourage you. I seriously don’t. All those people who are kittening(yes, I wrote this by myself before even getting filtered) about WvW also don’t want to discourage you becuase a) you brought field pvp back to us and b) you guys are awesome. We know that.
However, a lot of misconceptions are going on, and it’s about the time you WvW designers show up and talk with us what and how to fix things. There are tons of suggestions on this forum, but I don’t think those are something you can really rely on because people think different. What you have to do instead, I believe, is that you guys make a thread and seriously, talk with people. If you have an idea, show them to us. If you don’t agree some suggestions which people brought in, tell us why you don’t agree. If you have no idea what the heck is going on and completely empty, discuss with us. We might be wrong because we are not professional game designers. You obviously know much more about what you are doing than us. Nevertheless you can ‘get’ some ideas from our stupid, one-way and biased suggestions. You might get the big picture of what to fix and how to improve.
I will flip my original point over here. I appreciate for your work. We love WvW. We would like to love it. We have no alternative option if WvW fails. Help us.
I somewhat agree to you Flammenwerfer, tho I believe it’s only band-aid solution and more perma work need to be done.
The problem of Devona’s Rest is that there is no real ‘leading guild’ at this moment. I am not sure if some guilds are working on it, but we will have a hard time to do such of your suggestion without well established leading guild and putting some efforts to announce and get wide sympathy of it. Let’s take some time.
No one knows which server the OP is on as he seems to want to keep that a secret
I don’t know what you are talking about. Read OP once again.
Please don’t lump all of NS together
Sorry for my inconsiderate words that I’ve chosen on OP. Definitely I am trying not to, so please help me to keep distance from thinking in that way.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think all of Northern Shiverpeaks players do this, but I can tell you something – actually a lot of Northern Shiverpeaks players exploit the game mechanic.
I am currently playing in Devona’s Rest, which is being matched up with Northern Shiverpeaks and Keineng. I enjoy small sized pvp actions in WvW so that’s what usually I do in thesedays. While running WvW with those servers, I had to have some unpleasant experiences, which is the fact that some Northern Shiverpeaks players force the game to shut when they are in some kind of danger.
It is very simple – when they are down and find no hope to be rallied, they logoff or shut the computer down immediately just before their opponents stomp them.
Am I kittening about just one of the exceptional cases where they simply got disconnected or lost their connection for whatever coincidental reason just before they got killed? No. I played WvW today for like a couple of hours, and met these Northern Shiverpeaks people more than 5. There was even one dude who got world map completion badge on next of his name.
Funny thing is that I couldn’t find any case of Keineng people do this. They simply fight, win or lose, and accept the result.
Northern Shiverpeaks is leading WvW significantly, even for days. Behave with some dignity. The way you accept the result is not logging just before get killed and pleased how witty you were, but think where you screwed up the fight and find the way to be more skilled player.
