Hey,
I’ve been doing a lot of reading (reddit and official forums) and a bit of testing on the robots.
Am I correct in understanding that there is no pure Ranged class/profession in GW2?
Excepting world bosses/ normal pve where ‘everything works’ as everyone says, for serious content like Dungeons/Fractals, PvP and WvW I was unable to find a class that only uses ranged attacks.
What about venom share DE?
Scepter = slow life force generation, or am I mistaking?
Personally I dislike the color scheme chosen for holosmith. I think that yellow/light brown is ugly.
The lack of mobility/run speed was and still is the main reason I never play mine.
hopefully more players will use this build in pvp >:)
or who knows, even wvw!
bwahahaha
My feedback is regarding PvP and WvW: 0/10.
Zero traits synergy, zero survability. Cannon fodder.
While in a Fractals or Raid what kind of setup would we (thiefs) use? Revert to Daredevil or adjust/switch specs, traits and weapons from encounter to encounter?
Just updated the game and logged in to see for myself.
For the 8 dungeons there were No players in the LFG.
how sad.
My guild is dead.
I’ve been watching https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor for a suitable guild but not much happening in EU. Mostly new/small guilds or a couple of big ‘elite’ ones.
I still log in from time to time for the chest and from time to time for Teq, but that’s it.
The money and time was mostly well spend for the past 3 years, but times have changed, it’s 2016, and AN seams too slow to adapt (it’s not interested in pleasing too many players, IMO; they have a decent thing going on, small investment and decent $ output).
I’m one of those ‘old’ casuals who would rather read a book than Waste (yes waste) half an hour to one hour in search of a suitable DS meta organized map. The new zones are not ‘fun’, the dungeons are dead, and I was looking to have 1-2 hours of Fun when I can.
Currently GW2 is not that.
To the ones who say it only takes them a couple of minutes to find a suitable DS / AB meta map: I don’t believe you.
To the ones asking about GW2 alternatives, mines are:
– a game called Destiny (raids & dungeons & Fun )
yours truly, a filthy casual.
you expect too much ‘balance’ from a game in which the most damaging bow professions wear heavy armors.
so what you guys are trying to say is that you would rather have a condi war than a condi thief?!
absurd.
Only the numbers of money Anet and NcSoft gained will ultimately show who is right and who is wrong here.
k.
said someone long ago: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-on-guild-wars-2-in-the-months-ahead/.
And I did, until HoT. I enjoyed ‘running’ a few dungeons via the LFG tool with my condi guardian, or my thief. The ‘meta’ did matter, I did not want to be a handicap for my team so I adjusted accordingly: switching skills as the fight demanded, using food, oils and exotic gear. I had fun.
I’m not the most skilled player and I don’t have much play time; my wow raiding days are way behind me. I am done min-maxing gear and practicing rotations at the practice dummies in Ogrimmar for a marginal DPS increase. Don’t get me wrong I liked that, at that time; switching a few gems and tweaking my skill rotation and then killing a hard raid boss was great. It was another time, another game.
But times have changed, real life got more serious and complicated, discretionary time shrunk. GW2 was an okay pass-time, even with all the… drama(?) and the imbalances of the past (remember necros & the cake that was decorated with candy bugs and sent to AN?).
Now, I think the game is in a terrible state, IMO; the introduction of the raids combined with metabattle.com, the lack of damage meters, tens of pages of frustrated posts on reddit and here about bugs and inbalances between professions, minimal (if any) feedback from AN created/mutated a GW2 community that was… different in the past: more relaxed, more tolerating, to a more bitter one. Many threads and pots feel acid, sarcastic and sad.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I live in a far away place called Romania. I NEED sarcasm in my daily life because things are… ‘complicated’ here. It’s sad to see it so much on the forums and in-game (guild and LFG always looking for full asc condi wars and so on) and if you play the game without many friends and a strong guild you know what I mean. If you don’t then my view may seam… alien and wrong.
For the last ten years I’ve worked in the software industry, I’m well-accustomed to bugs and features, and I don’t expect too much from a company that was unable/unwilling to create/buy/summon a Search option on it’s web-site for the last 3 years, but I expect more from you guys.
TL;DR:
@You
I remember many posts on reddit: ‘best community? that would be GW2 for sure!’ and indeed it was. Come on, bring it back, relax a bit, be more tolerant, tunnel vision is always bad.
@AN
Please don’t try to turn this into WoW or some other game that promotes elitism.
Well, I used hammer pew pew
I hoped for an instant that engi has an alternative to nades & bombs swapping…
But then reality hit
@Raizen.7981
what I mean is, even if a player, say You, are skilled enough and you know the mechanics of a fight, say DS meta, and even if you find a map with 3 commanders (which is Hard, or at least it is for me at around 5 GMT when get home from work), that’s not All there is to it.
No matter how good you are, no matter if you find 3 commanders or 4 on a TD or DS map, the event is a collective effort. More than a handful of players must perform good.
That’s what I mean, IMO it’s not so ‘easy’: well I know the tactics, I’ll just hop on LFG, find an organized map or tag up and help in one, and we’ll win. No. It’s more complicated.
For me, a random casual that has 2-3 hours of play-time at the end of the day, if I were not to join the wonderful people of gw2 community for DS and TD, it will be impossible to finish them.
Sorry to move from the main topic which is Raids, you guys can get back on track.
Happy Holidays!
I have only tested on the golems, but I can’t get even close to condi engi with a hammer zerk setup…
maybe read some threads, at least on the first page of this sub-forum?
the hot meta events are easy enough to be completed by any player.
Total bull.
One can spend hours searching for a DS map with 3 commanders, and even then, finishing it is dicey because people afk / don’t follow advice for the tower phase, etc.
“New DS map, needs commanders” is often present in LFG.
AB is easier, and TD is…
Stop exaggerating, in every post that you made you stretch everything trying to defend the game.
what about PvE? how does a zerk hammer scrapper compare to a condi p/p?
They don’t need changing at all.
They just need to remove the mastery points from being gated behind them. Then no one would care.
just like the dungeons)
great content.
HoT acts 1, 2 and 3 reward the same type of amulet.
Can one change the stats of one?
What’s the point if not?
any way to do this achievement alone?

I got disconnected during the final cur-scene yesterday.
No, it’s not fixed.
No, it’s not my ISP.
It’s so good no one wants one for raids.
That’s because of
1) Ignorance by copypasta meta scrubs
:))
okay, have fun
‘updated guide on pressing #1’
good stuff at usual, thx Obal
and slow.
vg: 2-3 condi engi, exp and full asc.
gorseval: 2-3 condi war, 2-3 zerk eles.
at least 2 revs for any fight, cause you know, new HoT profession rightfully balanced.
you get the idea
so yea, play what you enjoy, how you enjoy it.
did you see the last ‘balance patch’ notes?
in pve thief is best dps on berserk, but pvp its trash tier
It’s so good no one wants one for raids.
And GL in DS / TD meta using a melee zerk Thief.
quality content.
fun content
gj
so?
do you guys feel balanced?
relax dude!
balance patch is almost here!
if those are the only… “balance changes”…
For ‘raids’ in general can be a stretch. It’s ok-ish for VG because it’s not that tight of a DPS race and there are no adds that you have to pewpew.
Gorseval is another story.
The best or optimal condi / venom share build for PvE / Raids has been debated enough:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Optimal-Venomshare-Raid-Critique-needed/first#post5812429
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/PvE-Condi-setup-Trait-lines-Synergy/first#post5731215
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Optimal-Venomshare-Raid-Critique-needed/first#post5812429
The thing is, if you played that and also a zerk build you will see a difference in numbers (dps output).
Raids = challenging content where you have to smack a bullet sponge & his adds as fast as you can; we can agree that survival even with 12k HP is not an issue.
I have been at the Vale Guardian with a venom share build. Me and an engi were able to bring the Red boss down every time with zero issues. This is burst damage; Condi DD is ok for that. For the rest of the fight, IMO, condi DD lacks a ‘high-enough’ constant dps.
This is Vale guardian, remember? For the following fights it will be much harder to get a spot as Condi DD, IMO.
I have seen and tested what a Condi War and Condi necro can do… and they are way ahead of Thief unfortunately.
In order to get clear picture you should at least test / try with Thief condi / zerk.
Then you can compare.
If you are fortunate(and rich) enough to also try with other professions then your comparison… picture will only get better.

a revenant autoattackig on sword, without quickness
I think that anyone who gives a kitten has seen the youtube videos with revs AA-ing for 7-10k while providing great group utility.
Thief is not the only profession that has this problem.
Maybe the future balance patch will address some of this… features.
condi build from 10:45:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7wwxZ3Gv0w
damage output in a raid:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ny5kJAkXfVQ
many class builds played optimally probably out dpses it
not by AA-ing
see engi / ele / etc
I have tried full zerk and then venom share with pugs.
IMO zerk can deliver much more damage in a constant way.
I used this and Shadowstep.
Had no survability issues unless trying to res someone in the last phase.
The heal from SoM is pretty good.
mallyx rev & venom share thief => pvp because torment & poison
imo.
Thx for the replies and thx Obal for the chat we had in-game.
My conclusions after 3 days of testing are similar to yours (sadly, because I enjoy condi guard more than warr):
– condi guard has lower DPS, lowe HP and lower survability through his heals than a condi War.
– condi guard cannot bring much support and here it gets complicated; the support options are on big cooldowns and bringing one or two will cripple the low dps even more.
I think it’s a bit more complicated, maybe a combination of factors:
- 11k HP is not an issue as long as you got something to hit, and the problems (death) will appear when you are far from boss / when you ress someone / whatever. kitten happens, and Thief has no buffer for when that moment arrives; boss AoE is not % of your HP, just like in open world (say DS meta) monsters don’t care what you total HP is, some just hit for 7-8k / hit.
- the damage is Okay if you spec zerk, I won’t go into more details; venom share is much lower; it offers some burst damage through poison, but in the end I would say it’s not enough for raids.
- now support… this is the hardest part I guess. Thief has zero group ‘buffs’.
* condi necro, has a few minor auras, a bit of Str share, etc.
* power necro I did not test/research, so I don’t know
* condi war has at least 1 banner
* PS warr and zerk rev got plenty of goodies
* condi ranger and condi guard are similar to Thief, no group support. Not many of them around so not many voices saying it
* list can go on, but you get the idea
But in the end, IMO it is ‘better’ to bring a necro / condi war (let’s ignore it’s dps, let’s say it does a bit lower dps than Thief). When I say better I mean the objective (boss dead) would be easier to achieve because there is more room for human errors.
The professions are not balanced, not everyone can do the same things, same dps with same survability, same group support or whatever. Some professions just don’t have the tools, IMO.
The thing is, in order to ‘See’ this, one needs to go to raids and other PvE events (DS and TD metas) with different professions. One should draw conclusions after it has tried the same fight or content with more than one profession (I did, also many hours spent at the golems in the mists and crunching numbers).
to be honest I did not see many staff Thiefs in raids (youtube ).
Most groups were running 2-3 condi engi, 2-3 revs, 2-3 warr
3 condi engi
3 revs
ok
As a random pve casual:
I don’t run dungeons any more.
I never liked fractals.
I was a raider in WoW a many years ago when I was much younger.
GW2 raids feel… like a joke. No story, no trash, no fun.
And I was playing this for fun.
I had high hopes for HoT, but it’s turned out to be a grind towards… what? I don’t even know.
Professions are so imbalanced… and AN seams to be so disconnected from the facts, it is just sad.
Any hope of improvements / balance is gone for me.
