Yet another thread about someone who feels the need to force other people to live their lives (and play the game) the exact way they think is best.

I would say that these threads are tiresome, but clearly you have boundless energy.

Hm, nah. Stop being a broken radiostation, ok? I’m not telling you how to live your life. I’m not trying to tell them how to play they game either. What I am trying to say that all this dungeon sell fiasco is a huge overlooking by ANet to the point that the sellers are in fact abusing the new and/or less experienced players.

And to all of you that feel like repeating “since there are buyers there will be sellers” and stuff like that … tell me how you feel about taxes? Do you pay them because you have to or because you want to? For the sake of argument think about for the most people out there, not just you, its obvious some of you have quite screwed up moral systems.

You know what they say – “There are 2 certain things in life – death and taxes”. I do not consider either of them as fun experience As most other people do.

I am confused about a couple things.

The first is in the above post; what is the connection between selling dungeon paths and taxes? Taxes are required by the government to live in a certain municipality. Dungeon paths are voluntarily bought by people with more gold than skill.

I am also uncertain about your connection between 4 people talking at once in a dungeon and the commonly owned means of production.

The connection is that people are not giving this gold willingly, they are paying it because they know no other way. They think THIS is the way. It may be caused by the frequent kicks or the aholes that open a dungeon and leave right after the boss is killed before anyone could get to the chest. There are plenty of threads in this forum about that, i suppose they are paying because they want none of that, It’s quite frustrating. As you can see in those topics most people are anxious to start their own LFG, especially since some of them do not know the dungeon mechanics. And that’s just wrong. And that’s what the sellers are “exploting” (Not as in game exploit, thus the quotes)

It is a choice to buy the path; taxes are not a choice. To make a valid comparison you would need to find a good that many people want, but don’t need, and they purchase for more money than it might be worth; it would definitely be a luxury item. Maybe we could compare path sellers to yacht makers.

And I fail to understand your second paragraph. I think I explained myself above on why 4 other people giving out tactics and doing their own thing is bad for the team. Be more specific I guess

You said you were not a communist, and talked about 4 people talking at once. I don’t get the connection.

First paragraph – Appleā„¢ iPhone (pun intended)

And well no. I was implying that for a team to work well there need to be a single person “giving the orders”. And I don’t want to sound like a communist here so thus the words ^^

I still don’t understand the connection between Communism and 1 person being in charge; that makes no sense. A better comparison would be a Monarchy, or a Dictatorship.

well I salvaged 10 rares the other day and got 0 ectos. I asked in map chat but no one knew. The drop rate seems to be worse and ectos have gone up marginally in value again. Market movements do say something.

They don’t mean much when more than one variable has changed. The introduction of ascended armor and people crafting skills to 500 is why ecto prices are rising on TP, not because of a nonexistent ecto nerf.

The End of WvW

in WvW

Posted by: sbr.8170

sbr.8170

Before anyone says “Your mad because your server is last”, no, we are first in our bracket for this week, and by and Landslide. After a week of Season 1, I have come to the conclusion that WvW is done for, so long as there are seasons.

I really expected to see the best, show up and play their A-Game. Instead, ALL I have seen is commander keep people at bay waiting for a Flip. Tag, UnTag, Milita, Roamers, Guilds, EVERY single one of them has done the same thing this week. Flip.

I thought WvW was pitting server vs server. Instead it has turned into an Achievefest. 7 weeks of this? Is this going to be 7 weeks of “Lets drain SMC so that we can build walls.” or “Lets not build siege so that they can over run Lords Room”. No one is even trying. All people want to do is get their Achieves, and yet no one is looking at the bigger picture.

It seems that every time ANET adds Achieves, something gets overran with issues. I am sorry to say, but this Season WvW will ALWAYS be like this in the future. People want Titles, Points, Gifts, etc. Putting it into the masses, on the scale of three combined servers, just turns the mechanics of what WvW was, to something else. It seems more PvE then WvW. Zergs walking past another, while map chat keeps saying “Let them cap it, leave it alone!” Really sad to see this go down this way.

The change of Tiered WvW was already bad. ANET said “HEY its GREAT! No more fighting the same people for months at a time!” Now its " If your the top 3 servers, you are guaranteed wins every few weeks, since we will place you with servers that cant even come CLOSE to you in a match up. The logic in that makes no sense. Lets reward the Third place Server a win by placing them against the 4th and 6th place server.

Whats the CLOSEST point spread between the third place server vs the fourth? 100K+ Whats the CLOSEST point spread between the top 3? They have ALL changed rank for all top 3 spots. Has number 4, 5, or 6 even come CLOSE to placing at #3? NO! 5 and 6 cant even take down 4 (Which currently is TC) without losing by a 100-200k. Yet ANETS view is that it makes it fun to TRY and take on a server that beats you by 100s of thousands of points, because its NEW people.

If I may, since this is ANETS view, then why cant #6 play against #13? 13 has no chance to win anyway, but seeing that 6 has played just about every server above them, why not give them something new?

This Event, has just made WvW even worse. First is the illogical match ups. Now is the skill-less Achieve trading. If thats going to be the case…….

Well I am looking for a server that is focused on WvW and not the rush of getting Achieves. Those will come within 7 weeks of playing. If your organized, have people in WvW 24/7 (Not a server that has Peak hours, looking for all around Capping at all hours) then send me a whisper.

Not looking to offend anyone, this is just my opinion. I enjoyed WvW being coordinated prior to the Season. I really dont care for the achievement greed.

Your saying that a temporary issue(achievement points that take 2 days to finish) will ruin WvW? I take your point very seriously and i’m sure the devs will as well. This thread will definitely result in changes.

PVE achievement hounds can kill 450 people and capture Stonemist 5 times in 2 days? The hardcore WvWers must not be as good as I thought.

You’re not forced to do anything.

You can start your own dungeon groups and announce theyare open to any class, they will fill up in seconds.

As to the WvW part, who is it that “orders” you to not do anything? Just roam around yourself and kill stragglers if there is no group/zerg to run with.

Instead of trying to learn to do dungeons with pugs I suggest you to ask your guild for that, I’m pretty sure they’d be more willing to help you than randoms. If you state its the first time at the beginnning they’ll have no reason to be mad at you.

True -__-. I’m just concerned for being removed and getting a bad reputation. Though, I suppose pugging isn’t much better for my ego.

If your guild would rather kick you than teach you the runs you should probably look for a new guild.

And to be more on topic: Let them know you don’t know the run. Better for everyone for you to be kicked at the start rather than halfway though.

You should be able to handle anything in any level appropriate zone with level 15 blues (as a level 19). You probably don’t need to worry too much about stats yet, not that you have too many choices at those levels.

I can’t think of any time where a level 19 (or any level actually) Necro can or should be fighting 6-8 mobs at a time solo. You might need to work on your pulling/runnning/leashing skills.

I have played around with the Forge a bit, but nothing serious. I haven’t had good luck, but I haven’t tracked my results either, so I am relying on memory.

After reading this I bought some crap:

10 level 72 Rare Shields
10 level 78 Rare Spearguns
10 level 74 Rare Axes
10 level 76 Rare Torches

I put one of each in 10 times, with the total being 300 each time and the average 75. My first 10 tries I got 4 exotics and 6 rares. The rares were all 80’s but i put them back in and got another Exotic.

Exotics:

Rampager’s Pearl Trident
Charzooka
Eir’s Short Bow
Maw of the kitten ed
Blastmaster 3000

Rares I didn’t put back:

Cleric’s Rifle of Ice
Cleric’s Staff of Air

No idea if I will try again, but if everything sells at the price I am asking I will be tripling my $$.

I don’t mean to speak for Celly but it is one of the things I noticed yesterday. In your CM P1 guide you have:

Way to Victoria
2 enemy groups. Kill or skip.

That probably isn’t very helpful to somone who has never done the path, or just doesn’t remember it which I assume is your audience here.

A quick mention of whcih enemies we would be encounting, and the order in which to kill them or what path you take to run away would be uch more helpful.

That said I do appreciate the work you put in so far, and it is a very nice start. This is something I would like to see developed more, I think there is definitely a place for an all text guide to the dungeon paths, I know that I woudl prefer that to having to watch videos all of the time.

I would be willing to help out but I can never remember the exact order of encounters out of game. I know what to do when I get there, but no matter how many times I run a path I have a hard time getting the order right in my head.

Well…no, spoj, you dodge about 2 seconds after the shake to evade AoE—not prevent spider spawn. When I PuG that boss, I just like to clear all the waves of spiders first. Unless they changed it, there’s like a dozen waves of spiders then you can attack the boss. Use single target to avoid aggroing more spiders (no piercing arrows rangers!)

That is one of the things that changed, the spiders never stop spawning and you can’t avoid aggroing them.

The simple fact of the matter is that if a dungeon path/boss can’t be done by a well balanced, skilled, coordinated group, then it’s broken. If you have to go get an NPC killed to make 50% of the listed strategies work, then it’s broken. Nightmare Tree in F/U is broken. The only way to beat it is with gimmicks and builds, or getting lucky and having him bug so when he spams his egg attack, no silvers spawn.

The salt in the wounds is Anet saying that not enough people are running all the paths of a dungeon. Maybe, oh, I dunno, if the paths and bosses were balanced more people would run them more than once for the achievment.

Yeah, but using reflection isn’t something that is exclusive to ubergroups. Pugs can use them too.

Actually I’m not sure if some class have reflect. All those uber groups somehow have guardian and mesmer.

Thief has Smokescreen, Mesmer has Feedback / Warden / Temporal Curtain, Guardian has Wall / Shield / Zealot’s Defense / Sanctuary, Ranger has Whirling Defense, and I’m sure that there are plenty of others that I can’t think of.

They are either not on par or they are not a popular weapon choice. You are expecting a PUG with ranger using an axe, or an elementist using a focus. They are called a PUG for a reason.

I was running fotm10 on dredge boss. And the 2 warrior in my group dont’ even carry a range weapon. Not that it is impossible to melee, but for those 2 warrior they should have carry a range weapon.

You can’t base everything on the lowest common denominator. I’m not one of the “omg everything is easy” crowd, but if everything has to be able to be done by any random PUG group it will be way too easy for any coordinated group.

There is no pvp type except for conquest (ctf, tdm, and rated arenas would be great).

I run cof p1 every day for gold.

I would take a break but then I would miss laurels and my ele wouldn’t be able to get full gear. This game feels like a chore because all I do is dailies and run one dungeon for gold.

Game ended up being more grindy...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: sbr.8170

sbr.8170

- You don’t need to grind to get full exotic gear once you hit 80, you can do this in a day
- At which point, due to “horizontal progression” there is nothing left to do other than go for specific gear items which you think look good, or enjoy playing for the sake of playing since there are no rewards left to entice you
- Many people play this genre of game specifically because it is a loot oriented genre – the euphoria of getting gear is the entire point of the game for them. Why do you think Diablo 1 sold a billion copies? People like getting gear.
- Every single piece of cosmetic gear is a horrific grind that makes anything in say WoW look hilariously casual
- The common defense seems to be “but you don’t have to grind, there are tons of other things you can do, you don’t need that gear”
- But remember that cosmetic gear is the only reward that this game offers at level cap due to “horizontal progression.” Getting gear is the primary motivation for a large pool of players, especially PVE only players. And the only way to get cosmetic gear is to grind

So OP is right, Anet has completely failed in its design goal of “no grinding” or, like communism, their ‘horizontal progression’ idea is something that works in theory, but when real humans and their actual wants and desires are involved, it all falls apart.

Do I have to be handheld to find the fun? Well pretty much every Sandbox MMO failed other than Eve so apparently I’m not alone in this.

I can’t find it right now, but there was a line, maybe from the Manifesto?, where they said grinding for purely cosmetic items is OK..

Oh wait..

(No offense to you, just trying to get a point across)

None taken, that was my point.

I am a decent player, I have earned probably 60-70 Pristine Relics so far (though most of those were in a very short period of time when I had friends that liked to run Fractals) but if I am the best player in your group you will have some serious problems with anything over Level 18.

And I have a Fractal Shield.

And lots of people who are better players and have spent more time in Fractals not only don’t have a useful Fractal Weapon but they don’t have any. The system is screwed and I wouldn’t feel any different about my blind luck if the system was changed to give people a FAIR chance at the skin they want.

Note FAIR not easier. Though I guess when you go from an absurd broken system to a fair one you are making ti easier by definition. I don’t think they should increase the drop rate or anything.

It can be hard and frustrating, but it is possible. Your biggest source of XP is in events, specifically taking or retaking camps/keeps/towers. Stay as geared as possible. I tried to do the stuff that any level could do to help the team: always carry full supply, repair, build siege, rez allies, keep lookout to keep sieges from getting attacked and left the actual killing of enemies to the pros. None of those things necessarily give you much XP, so you have to make sure you are in the cap area when the objective is capped. Almost to the exclusion of anything else.

Thieves with Signet of the Shadow, for the movement speed, are more annoying in instances. That’s what I call terrible.

You might be amazed how much dps I mitigate by moving 25% faster in combat on my Necromancer.

Movementspeed is useless in instances, because all encouters can be mastered by smart positioning and well-timed dodges. Let’s assume the thief is hitting Subject Alpha in melee. Why would he need additional movement speed? Subject Alpha doesn’t kite players. Let’s assume the thief is fighting Giganticus Lupicus from range. Why would he need additional movement speed? Every dodge or shortbow 3 brings you in safety.

There’s no great idea behind Signet of Shadows/Signet of Air. Most players use these skills out of laziness. To me, it’s a dead slot that could be used to help you and your group.

The problem to me is people who don’t change out their skills to fit the situation. There are times that signets that increase movement speed are good; pulling levers in the Dredge Fractal or any running/avoiding part come to mind off the top of my head.

If you are not doing that then yes, you should have a more relevant skill in your toolbar, but if you need a speed boost more than anything else and don’t use it you are just as irresponsible IMO.

Yeah, normally I want to smack L2play guy in the head, but this one is ridiculous. Maybe we could buy a bubble wrap armor from the gem store that shields you from all damage during the game.
