I agree with you on your second part, but the first part I disagree
A real expansion is NOT just a bunch of LS bundled together. A real expansion has 10-12 dungeons, 2-3 raids, new activities, new races, new classes, new skills, new features, new stories and new zones. The LS component SHOULD just be a small part of a full expansion. THAT is what people have been asking for.
So far there is not enough information to state for certain which way this “expansion” will go, but based on all their qualifiers, and “this will come after the launch of the expansion” talk I can understand peoples apprehensions.
Well since we don’t know what all we’re going to be getting yet, I think it’s a bit early to assume that all we’re getting is LS,… I hope.
Also, not to mention that I don’t know of any expansion that added 12 dungeons and 3 raids, that’s crazy! What game did you play that added that many?! I think 2-5 dungeons and 1-2 raids and a handful of zones is more the average amount of content that is released in expansions in the MMO’s I’ve played in.
I think 12 dungeons and 3 raids is not at all a realistic expectation. I’d love to know what MMO has done that and how much time there was between expansions for that to happen. That sounds like at least 3-5 years worth of design work.

This is because for us to get condition removal, we either have to spec for it or sacrifice an important utility spot for it in which case the cd is too long (compared to other classes ignoring warrior lol)
Other classes have it much easier when it comes to condition removal and it hardly affects their builds
Pretty much all professions need to sacrifice an utility slot or spec for it if they want condition removal. I personally like the remove a condition when you heal trait on inspiration adept trait line. Not hard to spec into since it’s in adept and it doesn’t take away an important utility slot. Both nullfield and mantra of resolve are great condition removals. I never had issues or struggled with condition removal anyway.

The centaur runes dont proc off each cast of mantra of heal. Its very inconsistent and i don’t know why. I was going to submit as a bug, but it seemed so minor i doubt they would care. It really bugs me though.
Yes it does but there is a 15 second cooldown (This includes the 10 second swiftness) So you only have 5 second downtime in between where it’s still on cooldown. I have a video on my mantra build thread demonstrating how this works and how Centaur runes proc with Mantra of Recovery

I have nothing against more difficult encounters and I haven’t done simins since the new patch. I will say though that the problem is that none of the other dungeon encounters are of this level of coordination, dps requirement, luck, timing and of course after already having spend a long time within the dungeon draining your energy.
I really feel there should be another difficulty mode added to dungeons. I feel that people should be able to do explorables in a more doable environment like most of them are now and get rewarded tokens. But have the same explorables tuned up highly to give a challenge to hardcore pve’ers with organised groups that award far better rewards.
You could include simins to this new category of difficulty.
I also feel that some of the storymode bosses are harder than half the explorable bosses. Make 3 difficulty levels.
- Storymode, Easy, lore driven introductory/tutorial type of dungeon. Make them even easier
- Explorables: Harder, pretty much mostly the same as they are now but reduce health bars, make them a tiny bit easier, balance the really harder fights to be much easier
- Hardmode: Have all fights tuned up with many new coordinated abilities like simin/subject alpha/lupicus. Bring back old-school searing effigy etc. Make them hard and unforgiving but completing them twice as rewarding. Also make it less about DPS but more about coordination and survivability/support.
That way, people get a challenge and those who can’t do hardmode can still enjoy the same content and at least some of the same reward. I know storymode was intended for this but storymode is completely different, less content for it and of course not nearly as rewarding.

Didn’t read the 9 pages of replies but, 99% of the PvE mode IS easy mode, let some of the people who like challenging content have some as well. You already have the vast majority of the game to enjoy why do you think that it’s fair that people who like challenging content should have NO content? It’s an MMO… not a ‘Shape this game to fit JUST ME and no-one else!’.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the easy stuff, I like the map completion, the dungeons, the living story but… come on… aside from SAB, Liadri… and the Triple Wurm first world kill. There’s been nothing challenging beyond that.

This is one of the most ridiculous demands I’ve yet seen to be honest. It’s just…. wow
There’s what, 500 shades of dye? You can easily mix and match colours so they are more consistent unless you wear drastically different styles of armour pieces. Get a set of armour rather than different pieces from various sets, problem solved.
The posts WeLoveKanjimari made about how texturing works in games is pretty solid. I suppose unless you’ve worked with texturing or looked into it you wouldn’t know how it generally works in most games.
It’s not realistic to expect the armour to all match exactly there’s hundreds of armour sets in the game. The point of them being sets is so that they are consistent in style, texture and when colour applied.
This isn’t an issue with the game it’s an issue with wanting to have all sets look the same so that non of them are unique just so your dye can match, it’s just well.. silly. It’s much better that each set is more unique in feel so there is more variety rather than everything looking the same.

I’ve previously made a topic about the Commander issues and the general negativity towards them. I really feel this system needs a change.
To give some background, I’ve played since beta weekend 1 and have about 1600+ hours of gameplay time since early headstart. I can safely say I know this game pretty well (You’d have to be pretty thick if you didn’t after playing the game so long though I suppose it’s always a possibility).
Most of this time was spend in PvE/Dungeons al though I’ve learned quite a bit in regards to WvW especially from tagging along with experienced guilds using their voice comms.
I’m the guild leader of my guild and my guild members gathered the money to get me the Commander icon because we had a good 3 to 4 events a week (both PvE and PvP related). As you can imagine it’s been extremely useful managing people during events. The icon being a great way to mark a rally point for the entire guild.
I’ve also commanded in WvW, I’m not exactly an elite professional but I’ve seen a lot worse out there. Like the ‘FULL CAPS SPAM’ ones and I’m sure you can think of several other types. Either way I’m always trying to improve my commanding and learning new tricks in that regard.
That said, I’ve received a lot of abuse and angry whispers of people for having the icon on or forgetting I have it on or assuming I’m ‘flaunting my riches’ when in PvE settings. This is quite disheartening at times when I’m trying my best to help people and make things run more smoothly.
What the commander icon should represent is someone who is a veteran and knowledgable within the game and/or who has been voted for by a certain number of people. Let’s say there should be a required amount of hours played on that specific character and at least 10 people should be able to vouch for you as well as the money on top of it.
This should already greatly reduce (though probably not eliminate) incompetent commanders being able to gain the icon. On top of that you should be able to swap icons to ‘guild only’, ‘squad only’ (I know those in your squad can’t see other commanders but those who aren’t can still see you), ‘seen by all’.
There should also be a way for people to disable individual commander icons if they so choose and have a way to toggle them on or off for PvE entirely. On top of that I feel other map icons when not in PvP should be prioritised over the commander icon (like waypoints and bank/vendor icons).
It’s Arenanets responsibility to improve the system to prevent such a backlash towards the commanders and annoyance to people playing the game. I can see both sides of the coin here. I would really like to see an improvement of the system.

I kind of agree with this, Mesmers rely heavily on tricking people and without this defense we are sitting ducks. Mesmers are quite squishy. I would like to see this changed slightly as well. People just have to learn to pick out the real Mesmer from illusions (which is very much possible) so only people who play the Mesmer really well can stay undetected long enough to have a shot at winning.

I am one of these hardcore players and the only thing I ever asked for is fixes and improvements in UI like trading post, guild abilities etc. The only extra content I asked for is for something to do with my guild that’s not WvW which they are adding soon. Which isn’t because I demand more content but rather the need to have something to solidify a community.
True there are a lot of people who go through the game in no time and then complain about lack of end game. I’m one of the hardcore people but I don’t have that complaint.
I’ve had a lot of hours clocked playing this game and I still love it, still enjoy it, still find things to do. New content would be nice of course but it’s mostly the bug fixes and improvement in existing systems that I’d like to see put in place. I’m in no rush I do what I feel like.
To be honest the people I hear complain most are casuals, more specifically they get to lvl 80 then feel like there is no end game because they don’t like the options for things to do (Like getting a legendary, ascended gear, all dungeon paths, wvw/spvp titles) nobody forces you to do these things but they are a lot of work. People go through the leveling content and then get bored by choice.
I feel like you can’t really complain about end game because after you’ve lvled up a few characters, done a lot of wvw, all dungeons, at least world completion, at least full exotic gear and done some sPvP.
I can guarantee once you’ve done all that you will have clocked so many hours of playtime that you can’t really then complain that there wasn’t enough to do. I’m pretty sure the devs understand this.
Part of the great thing about GW2 is that it doesn’t have a sub, people who get bored can leave and do other things. Then come back when new content is released.

The good ones are still about but because people no longer learn dungeons but rather rush through them nobody learns the actual tactics of each individual mob and just run past everything which causes people to be absolutely atrocious in general compared to if more veteran players would take the time to teach people how to do fights properly and how to counter them all properly in stead of kicking people who don’t meet their imaginary requirement list of ‘lvl 80 full exotic/ascended berserker speed runner warrior/mesmer only’ elitism stuff.
All the good players either:
A. Are bad because they never learned to actually fight everything properly and so you wouldn’t know they were good because they constantly die not knowing how to actually beat an encounter or utilize their profession to the fullest.
B. People who learned all the tactics for themselves in a dungeon group with people who learned them together whom are few and far between
C. Doing other things in game, Stick to doing dungeons with the same people or have left
Of course there are exceptions but I generally find that a lot of potentially good players are bad only because all they know is speedruns and are taught by elitist that you must be lvl 80 full zerker ascended warrior to be a skilled player which is laughably ignorant to say the least and incredibly damaging to the community.
Rest assured though there’s plenty of still good players out there in all parts of the game. Even some speedrunners are good. I personally stay clear of any speedruns and exploits and if I do pug I take newcomers and lower levels with me who are up for actually enjoying the content and learning who then become better players because they aren’t mindless rush zombies.

I would recommend from what you wrote to go for maybe warrior? It’s hard to say really you just have to try all professions and play them to about lvl 10 or so and try all the weapons they can use to see how you feel about each. You might be surprised what you end up going with!
As for guides, just play the game, do events that pop up on your screen, do the heart events, look at vistas, point of interests. Grab some harvesting tools and equip them from merchants and harvest nodes.

Ironically I do most damage out of the people in the parties I’m with when I use my One-handed sword + Pistol combination. I have 30 points in Domination, 20 in Inspiration and 15 atm in Dueling. According to the tooltips in comparison to the other people in my group that weapon combination + traits does more if not double the damage they do.
That being said it’s a tricky weapon set to use and definitely doesn’t work for all encounters. I always bring with me a one-handed sword, pistol, scepter, focus, greatsword and staff and swap between them when required.
All the other weapons don’t do as much damage in general unless you trait towards a specific weapon such as phantasms for a staff or scepter for shattering/condition damage it’ll take a bit for the damage to build up but it’s more consistent (That is if your phantasms don’t get destroyed etc.).
Also with 20 points in inspiration I contribute to the fight by healing my allies and myself by selecting the trait ‘Heal allies when casting a mantra’ and while reviving to use the feedback bubble. I use Mantra of pain and it heals for a fair amount myself and those near me when it’s finished casting. Then when using the ‘Activate mantras three times’ trait you can do some big instant damage right after.
Then there’s the many CC’s we have. Like Temporal curtain with the slows/speed up and pull back for focus, Shattering for clone spamming scepter which also makes a nice distraction for mobs, Stunning/dazing/blinding with pistol, greatsword has the knockback and range, staff with chaos storm, one handed sword with its vulnerabilities and cripple effects. The list is endless.
Not to mention slot skills like Feedback, Null field, Illusion of life etc.
The downside of Mesmers are that each weapon and slot skill abilities have quite specific situational uses and therefor in explorables it sometimes takes a wipe before the Mesmer knows what to expect and can adjust weapons/skills/traits accordingly.
Mesmers are probably the hardest profession to master and require a lot of thought, situational awareness, last second decision making, fast reaction time, deep understanding of your many weapon choices/skill abilities + traits. They are squishy and weak unless played properly and even then it can be difficult.
Don’t judge the profession, Judge the individual Mesmers. There are many bad ones, A few good ones and the good ones are really something else.

I see multiple people in this thread saying that they require 100% rep because they are trying to build a “community” or “family”, but I’d ask them….do you know all of the people who are active on your roster at any one time?
I would say that any guild who is at, or near, the cap has no excuse as to why they would require 100% rep other than want for more influence or feeling insulted because someone decided that a little bit of their time was better spent with a different group.
Once a guild gets so large it stops being a family or community and starts becoming more like a cult; people join it because of the name and leaders want more people to join so they can further their name.
I help run a small guild, we have 35 members on the roster, maybe about 5-6 active on week nights and 10 or so active on Friday-Sunday nights…2-3 of the 35 member regularly..gasp…represent a different guild. If I want to include the non-representing members in our activities I whisper them and see if the want to join (I don’t ask that they represent). If people don’t represent and don’t participate at all, then I’ll let them know that we feel that they aren’t contributing to the social part of the guild, ask that they come chat/play with us a bit more, and if they don’t….then I’ll let them know that we let them go.
A few people not representing isn’t going to spoil a guild, it will only spoil the ego of the people running the guild. Granted, if a significant portion of the guild isn’t representing (I’d say >20% in guilds 50+ members, >30% in guilds <50) then it becomes an issue.
My personal opinion, take it or leave it. If anyone has similar thinking to mine, you are more than welcome to look me up in game, I’ll have a sympathetic ear to any dictator guild problems you want to vent about.
Not necessarily the case although I agree that some guilds are like this in mine for example I know a lot of the members by real name or at the very least know them very well. We chat a lot about various things and apart from a couple of new people and very very quiet ones I know the majority of my members well and they know each other because when they are online so is everyone else rather than everyone being in different guilds. People are able to get to know each other well because of this and are inclined to do things with guildies first and foremost.
People who join the guild know its 100% representation before they do and understand why it is so, nobody is forced into this. We have a pretty good reputation on our server because people always see us together doing things and silly events or as simple as slacking and joking around in LA. We are a very close knit community.
We don’t often recruit as we stick around the 100 member mark and remove anyone who hasn’t been active for a long time before we recruit more at which point we hardly have to advertise because people want to join us.
We are about active community where people recognize each other and have fun together. A guild that is small enough to do so but large enough to have people to do things with. With on average 20-30 people online at peak times.
I don’t enforce 100% representation to boost my ego I do it because I can see from experience that it makes for a stronger community and a stronger community makes for a more fun experience in game where people feel more connected to one another. I do it for them, the people in my guild, to give them the best experience possible. Because of it people really get to know each other and become friends outside of the game.
It’s nice that guild hopping is there for specialized guilds or smaller guilds but for my kind of guild it just doesn’t work. I respect your rule on guild hopping, it would be nice if you could respect mine without insulting me.

To make mantras more viable HM needs moved down to master tree….
Very much this, I would place all the damage ones under duelling EM on mastery, HM on grandmastery then PM needs a rework because it’s pathetic. Maybe have it proc stability for the duration of the cast time? Something along those lines…
Then I would probably place MM as mastery choice in inspiration and RM as grandmastery as I feel it’s such a powerful healing skill.
(Just throwing out ideas here, either way traits need reshuffling/reworking to make mantras viable competitively, the mantras themselves are fine as they are single target)

Wouldn’t hurt to give us the display option to turn the “rainbow flashiness” off for those moments where you want a little immersion or less rainbowness overall.
What is wrong with rainbows? They’re a real natural occurrence. As for in game it’s not that far fetched with purple butterflies (mesmer) green moths (necro) flying books (guardian) pink moas (rangers) shiny blue ghosts (Ascalonians) quaggan (obvious)
The list of colourful and/or strange magic and/or cute and/or funny things is endless in this game. It’s not ruining immersion that type of thing is already part of the game.
I hear nobody complaining about how unrealistic it is to have a sword that shows the universe inside it…. People need to lighten up up really it’s a game, it’s meant to be fun.

I’m often very surprised how many women play this game. This is my first pc game however. I come from competitive console fps and fighter games, in which women seem very few and far between.
The girls I knew who played FPS rarely admitted to being female because too many times they would be kicked off of teams, teased, or harassed.
I played FPS and other fighting type games and I always admitted to being female because I felt that pretending to be male just doesn’t help disperse the taboo of woman playing video games and I then just ignore being treated differently and the abuse/harassment. I’m not ashamed of being a woman who plays video games and I show through my actions and skill that I play games as well as any guy (Seeing as gender has zero influence over how good a gamer you are, not that it matters if you are good at a game as long as you enjoy it).
The reason why I tend to be one of the ones to point it out (when appropriate) is because I feel it’s important to do so. Mainly because people still assume you are a guy when they really just shouldn’t assume at all so there’s still some ways to go before woman playing games is considered a norm not an oddity so any way I can help demonstrate that there’s a definitive female presence the better it is in the long run for fellow female gamers by (hopefully) decreasing the amount of abuse woman receive in the gaming community.
I’ve already seen a huge improvement in woman presence and acceptance in gaming from 10 years ago which wouldn’t have been the case if woman hadn’t shown their presence and put up with the abuse. There is definitely a lot less sexism based abuse now in comparison to then (still plenty around just not as much). That said I can understand why some people want to hide their gender because it comes with a lot of drama and negativity and people just want to enjoy the game. I just personally feel it’s worth putting up with so that in the coming decades the sexism will hopefully continue to decline.
As for running into woman in gw2. I’d say the ratio of male to female gamers in gw2 is pretty much male 60/40 female quite a high percentage of woman anyway. It’s just not something that generally comes up because it doesn’t really matter and in gw2 in general it’s considered quite normal. It’s quite hard to tell by the character/name/profession people play whether they are male or female as there’s large variety of preference there. The only problem area is competitive pvp there’s definitely still a ‘woman should be in the kitchen’ vibe there.
If it helps there is a group on facebook called ‘Guild Wars 2 Girls’ where you can find other woman to play with. That said there are plenty of men who play gw2 who are mature and friendly who won’t treat you badly or differently for being a girl. Just have to give them a chance

I’m sorry, for a few posts there i thought you were actually able to understand english. didn’t knew you had that language problem yourself. cause i can’t explain how you can confuse it when i say “our servers” to translate into a claim of ownership. unless of course you do understand that that wasn’t the case, but having run out of arguments you went with that, attacking a strawman cause that’s all you could do. Intellectual dishonesty at its very best.
for the lad who said that the egnlish speaking servers are actually international ones, you’re absolutely right. they are, they’re the house for many ethnicities, all of us communicating with each other, in english. how blinded by social justice fury one must be, to not understand that not using english is actually impolite and incosiderate. it shows a profound disrespect for your fellow player and is quite telling on the quality of your character (or lack thereof).
as for the poor folk who just don’t know english, are they not entitled to play? i’m sorry to say but no they’re not. we’re not in africa. we’re in europe, most people here have the opportunity to learn another language at all ages, and let’s be honest, english isn’t a hard language to learn. if they choose to kitten themselves, that’s their business. they should live with the consequences of their decisions. so yeah, enforcing an english only rule on the common channels is just fine. in fact it’s more than fine, it’s what needs to happen.
For someone accusing others of having problems with the English language and proclaiming that English is easy to learn; your punctuation, grammar, and spelling is atrocious. You might want to be more careful about how you present your argument next time.

You can only play Stronghold for a little while, where as GTAV will be launched so there will be plenty of time to play it (although it’s probably going to be bug ridden). I’m looking forward to playing GTAV but I wouldn’t say it’s a priority over a short term beta test… At least it should be a no brainer unless you just simply prefer playing those games over trying the Stronghold test which is just a matter of preference.

Giving the passive animals more advanced animations and scripts would cause a lot more lag probably, I much rather have a game that runs smoother…. Plus, Guild Wars 2 isn’t exactly the most realistic of games so I wouldn’t expect realism in any sense of the word.
To be honest, GW2 does a better job with it’s passive animals than in half of the other MMO’s I played where animals AND mobs just stand completely still or are animated very badly. I do agree they could be better though I just don’t find it as important as optimization.
Most of the time I don’t even notice them, they just become background ambiance and I stop noticing their rudimentary animations/behavior. This is kind of what they’re intended to be, in the background, as a part of a bigger picture, not the focus of peoples attention.

Pretty much as the video shows above, it’s constantly repeated very often it doesn’t sound like a normal sigh someone makes it just sounds like explicit moaning and it’s really quite over the top.

Or… you could, you know, try not to see English as being so superior? If it bothers you so much, learn some phrases in those languages instead of expecting them to do so. They have no obligation to learn your language so if YOU want to speak to THEM the courteous thing to do is to learn their language. Not the other way around, IMO.

I don’t think a DPS race equals skill. I think the fight could do with an additional mechanic to make up for the healing being nerfed but at least people can now complete the longest dungeon in game without having the perfect setup in professions/builds.
Dungeon difficulty should never be directly related to how much combined DPS a party does. In stead what the encounters need is more teamwork, more mechanics. Kind of like the new final AC boss on path 2.
I think simins mechanics are pretty good as they are just needs something more now that it’s no longer a DPS race all the other bosses on the same path are more about taking down health points slowly than actual mechanics. I think if they were all made more interesting with more mechanics, real teamwork and reduced in health points the dungeon would be more challenging overall. Except for lupicus of course he’s bang on the mark.
All Arah bosses should be like lupicus/subject alpha and/or the new ac path 2 boss. Unforgiving, requiring tactics and teamwork, impeccable timing and player skill not ‘Need 10k DPS to kill it, need full zerker warrior team with mesmer!’ That’s not difficulty that’s just the wrong type of mechanic for this game.

I’ve hated this for so long, Lion’s Arch looks like a ghost town unless you stand right on top of people and even then it takes a while to load people in. I would like to have the option to choose the culling settings so I can actually see people. This issue is also really bad for WvW. It just ruins immersion so much if you can’t see a person standing 4 steps away from you.

Some of the weapons also don’t glow when sheated and some like the torch could do with a blue light emitting from it, seeing as it’s a torch.

Keep in mind that they only showed traits and we had some hints at other stuff happening so the traits alone might not be the complete picture I’m really eager to see the whole picture to see what is what and what is really OP or what is really nerfed..

I don’t even….
/Facepalm….
“We don’t like LS we want a proper expansion -angry face”
Anet: Okay, we will give you an expansion -Works on expansion-
“We don’t want expansion because it’s just LS combined”
o.o
Except that’s a huge fallacy.
An expansion should not just be an equivalent of combined living story episodes. We get those for free… and the expansion has a price tag associated with it.
Why would anyone be anything but the opposite of happy about getting the same thing they were already getting for free with a pricetag slapped on it?
OH YES! PLEASE CHARGE ME FOR THE THINGS I’M ALREADY GETTING FOR FREE!
WHERE CAN I SIGN UP!If I give you a free 1 cent every day for 100 days, you will have a dollar on day one hundred.
If I give you nothing until day one hundred, then give you a whole dollar and then charge you for it.
which is better?
Except that people are missing the point where you have been getting almost an expansion worth of content since launch for FREE where as normally in every other MMO you would have had to pay for it. Arenanet is still a business, they do have to make money somehow to keep working on GW2. Gemstore items alone are not going to give them enough money in the long run to sustain their business, you have to be realistic here.
GW2’s payment system is already one of the most generous I’ve ever seen in the MMO genre… Some people are just never happy unless they get everything for free. The talented people who work on GW2 spend thousands of hours making it, should they not be paid to provide you with this entertainment and artistic talent?
It baffles me when people complain about having to pay for a GW2 expansion after I spend almost 6k hours playing this game which is a major bargain compared to most other games that you pay the same amount for and finish in a couple of days at most….
Like Evolve is a prime example of an expensive game that has very little content nor much replay value or what about The Sims where you have to pay a chunk of money for tiny expansions and have to rely on mods to get worthwhile play time out of it.
People who play GW2 and complain about having to pay for an expansion have some serious tunnel vision going on and seem to be completely oblivious to the rest of the gaming industry. Criticism of the game is all well and good, to each their own but I don’t think it’s fair to complain about having to pay for this expansion.

Congratulations! I just know I’d get a precursor drop in the beta test.
If it drops for you, you will have used all your lucky points and will never get one again
