Jumping Feedback Thread

Fay.2735

Aspect Skill Tips:

When to use which skill:

Use #1 when jumping up unto vertical cliff walls above you.
Use #2 when you want to go through a barrier/shield or quicksand.
Use #3 when jumping across a large gap (You can jump up platforms as well if they are higher than you are as long as you are far enough distance away to make use of the leap arc).

How to efficiently use each skill:

Jump Skill #1: Press 1 to go up then hold W to go forward as you reach the top.
Speed Skill #2: Aim your camera and character in the direction you want to go in then tap 2 to move through the barrier/shield/quicksand then press 2 again to stop moving forward as soon as you get through.
Leap Skill #3: Enable “Fast with Range Indicator” or “Normal” in your options menu under ground targeting. Move the green circle unto the platform ahead then press to move there (Unless you use Range Indicator in which case you hold 2 then let go when the green circle is in the right place). Do not use WASD or jump keys while using this leap skill it will do the work for you as long as you indicate the position it should leap to.

Just remember that the skills themselves will do most of the work for you. Hope that helps

Edit: I’d also like to add that it’s easier to use the aspect skills than actual jumping because you have more time between pressing the jump button and forward. I think because the skills control your character so suddenly and in a big way that people panic a bit while using them.

Just try to remember that the skills will do most of the movement for you and to try to relax when it does. Pretend you’re on an elevator and all you have to do is press the button to go up and hold forward to get out as you reach the top (in regards to the trickier skill #1). Don’t panic or try to steer the skills too much. You also don’t need to press spacebar to make the jump work.

Guild Raid Testing

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Fay.2735

I feel this was deserved. They claimed to be #First at killing one of the bosses and then claimed you can do the raid in 15 minutes without any context to explain that they had access for like a month. I feel that Anet took the right approach here as this could have been damaging to how the raids would be perceived by those not in the loop about DnT’s involvement. On top of that they boasted about getting their title and selling loot they got for 900g. Stay classy DnT…

And before they remove it here are three pictures of their tweets and their official websites main banner:

Dungeon Master Title - It's been a long journey!

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

Me (Lilyfay) and three of the people in my steady dungeon team have just received the Dungeon Master title! I’m so happy I just wanted to share it with all of you.

It’s been one heck of a journey, sometimes frustrating, sometimes it made us want to cry but we stuck with it and got there in the end. We’ve had so much fun overall working together, figuring out how to beat all the encounters.

So for those people who are struggling with the dungeons, It is possible to do all of it. Don’t get discouraged. Find yourself a good bunch of people you can have a laugh with and who are patient enough to work through the fights (Even if it takes hours). Don’t settle for PuG’s because you ruin half the fun from doing the content (The company of good friends).

If you ever need any advice in regards to any encounter feel free to whisper me in game and I’ll do what I can to help you out.

As for the Dev’s thank you for the amazing content. The beautiful atmospheric views, Some awesome boss fights (Kholer, Subject Alpha, Giganticus Lupicus, Alphard etc.) also the silly stuff and jokes (Ooze boss, Turkeys, Pillows fights in Caudecus’ Manor). Can’t wait to try new dungeons hopefully in a new content patch in the near future (hint hint)

Of course just wanted to say thank you to the people who helped me get there especially those who were with me most of the way. Vraex Bloodclaw, Serojoal, Xanthiel Novareil, Leferath, Helansin Garanik and many more. You’re all still nabs to me but I love you all

GW2 Female Armour [Poll]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

My wife can’t even do her hair in 10 minutes, much less anything else lady wise, so I’m gonna ere on the side of caution and say most of the females here can’t either, at least not where they feel comfortable with themselves to be in public. (How you like that run on sentence).

Bottom line the sexes are different, and what is considered “beautiful” on each of those sexes varies greatly. Women complain when they don’t look like Barbie, or that they feel they should have to look like that instead of being comfortable with themselves, but all too often they forget that men typically don’t look like He-Man either. The difference is, most men don’t even try.

Let me start by saying it takes less than a minute to do my hair and I feel quite comfortable in public either with or without make-up if I wear any it’s because I felt like it. Secondly I wouldn’t want to look like barbie and that’s coming from someone whose favourite colour is pink (Albeit not the barbie shade of pink).

The thought of it makes me shudder. That doll is so out of proportion and unnatural. That people think that’s a realistic ideal or attractive is worrying. If whomever I’m with can’t accept me for who I am then they aren’t worth my time, I don’t like shallow people. So please don’t speak as if all woman supposedly want this or spend hours getting plastered up.

That said. I voted that I wanted to see more skimpy armour. The reason being is that right now there are plenty of covered up options and very few skimpy options. I’d like these two to be a bit more balanced. Especially for Medium armour.

The other reason I feel that there aren’t many skimpy options is that with a lot of the skimpier outfits you also get skirts that look ridiculous with random holes and weird flappy bits making for even fewer desirable options. They aren’t particularly elegant or delicate or have any cohesion.

The covered up outfits tend to be very puffed up and look odd in combat. I’d like to see more sleek and elegant armour skins like the new Ancestral outfit. I want to see a lot more of this style (Not necessarily with the asian twist).

That together with tops and bottoms rarely lining up. This to me gives even fewer mix ‘n’ match options. Obviously this is my opinion and others might like the weird flappy hole skirts and puffy covered up outfits. Whatever you prefer there are still less skimpy outfits than there are covered up ones.

To be honest the reason I tend to prefer skimpy outfits in this game is because they look more feminine where the fully covered up ones tend to be quite masculine. Which isn’t a bad thing I just prefer feminine outfits thus my desire for more elegant and sleek sets like Ancestral.

I’d also like male characters to have more skimpy options so people who play male characters also have more options. It’s all about variety and having more of every option as balanced as possible. Freedom of choice for everyone Gender is irrelevant in what someone likes. Remember that.

Player Base: male and female ratio?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

I wanted to point out with a lot of people using the stereotype of ‘cute and cuddly’ as if it’s a bad thing to like those things. That there is nothing wrong with women liking cute and cuddly stuff. My asura is pink and cute where as my warrior looks like Xena basically.

To say if someone likes cute things it is somehow bad in some way and makes them less of a player is as much of a bad thing to say as ‘girls only play games because of their boyfriend’. I know plenty of men in game who love quaggans, kittens, wear pink and girly outfits, run around with dreamer bow. So what?

You are still allowed to like cute or feminine things as a female who games and still be just a gamer. Just as much as others might like more dark stuff. This is just a matter of preference and should in no way dictate what makes a gamer and what doesn’t. I can still beat you up as my little cute pink asura if you don’t play well enough. I don’t need to be super scary big charr/norn to do that.

When people address me as male I correct them, I sometimes bring it up when I get to know people and I ask them about who they are just the same as I sometimes ask how old people are or where they are from. But at the same time I don’t go around shouting ‘Look I’m female AMG it makes me so special’ I’m special because I’m me and I’m unique in my own ways just like everyone else is special in their own way.

So what that I like cute pink fluffy things, I also like gears of war and beer. People really need to stop putting negative connotation to anything considered feminine as if it’s a bad thing

(Edit: Just to make my point even further, see attached screenshot, that’s my ‘main’ that I’ve played on for about 2200 hours. It’s just a preference it means nothing in regards to my gaming abilities or experience.)

“We don’t want expansion because it’s just LS combined”

o.o

You don’t like the first format, so you demand a format used by pretty much every other MMO out there where you get little to no content for several months and then a bigger whack of content in one go. Then that’s exactly what they’re going to give you but then you complain you don’t like this either….. I don’t even…

On top of that you honestly thought the stress demo was all of the content you were going to get? I don’t even know how you could have possibly thought that was all of the content seeing how they already told us about a bunch of other things we’re going to get. Of course that wasn’t all of it… I’m just… /headdesk /giveuponhumanity

Engineer is getting AOE Moa skill

Apparently according to the AMA Livestream happening right now (Mesmer is up next); Engineer will be getting a skill/trait (wasn’t paying enough attention) that turns enemies into Moa’s…. AOE skill …………….

Everything is still open for changes though but I think it’s kinda lame if they do get it because Moa is a unique Mesmer skill and AOE is much stronger too – At least make it some kind of other transform that’s not Moa -_-

TY Anet for Transgender NPC!

If you’re offended by the transgender NPC or think she’s inappropriate you’re transphobic, end of. If you really believe you’re not then I suggest looking closer at your ‘excuses’ as to why this NPC shouldn’t be allowed to exist. If you are aware that you’re transphobic it’s your type that makes me feel ashamed to be human.

Let’s all just live and let live okay? LGBT people are NOT hurting you in any way by existing. YOU are the one hurting THEM by being hateful and telling them they shouldn’t be allowed to exist. So who should we really think of as being offensive? You’re the problem, not them.

Maybe they could move Halloween to another city, I bet they could make the grove super creepy if they wanted to or Divinity’s Reach. The new LA looks like a giant skate park to me, all coziness and charm gone. Plus it also looks like some giant child threw his sea toys all over the place, the buildings look silly. I much preferred the old LA.

Adopt a Newbie Welcome Committee!

With the big sale happening this weekend (And a while after) there is no doubt that a lot of new players will jump into the game for the very first time. It can be quite daunting to start up in a new MMO where newbies are frequently made fun off in others game.

But one of Guild Wars 2’s strong points has always been it’s great and helpful community and I think this is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate that in a big way by welcoming newcomers with open arms.

So, I figured it would be nice if some of us veterans were to hang out in the starting zones to welcome and assist new players with any questions they might have. You could even find a newbie to adopt and level up with them using an alt so they wouldn’t have to play alone.

Anyway, I’ve done this before when there was a sale and the good response I had from doing so made me decide to do this again with this sale and I was hoping to encourage more veterans to do the same by posting these suggestions here

If any newcomers are stuck or have questions feel free to message me in-game and I’ll be happy to help:

Fay.2735 | (I play on Desolation EU, I usually go by the character names “Fay Everdunes” or “Lilyfay”)

Update: You can find a list of Veterans who are happy to help on this post (Or scroll down three posts):

I didn’t read anything other than the OP but to put my opinion in this.

NO

Gear/Level/Profession demands are already rediculous. If you allow people to check stats things will go to hell. Just a big NO

NO

NO

The convenience of seeing what someone is wearing versus the negative impact is off the scales. It’s NOT worth it by a mile. The only acceptable thing was if it were a preview of skin/base name of skin only as in ‘Exalted Boots’ not ‘Carrion Exalted Boots’ as the carrion part would give away stats nor should it show runes.

The community is already dealing with enough elitist behaviour and bad attitude as it stands any more and it would destroy any enjoyment for the rest of the playerbase.

Taimi mini for Christina

Can I suggest a mini taimi available to all with a portion of profits going to a multiple sclerosis related charity?

Can someone create a new post about this, along with a reddit post?

No new posts needed; feedback thread has already been passed along.

There will be a charity event for MS in mid April (Same as last year) run by the same people behind Pink Day in LA. If you do decide to make the mini. Would it be at all possible that it could be released on the same day as the charity event? (On 19 April between 1pm-5pm CDT/7pm-11pm GMT) and that some of it’s the proceeds go to MS charity that would be so great! Here is the website with last years details on it:

http://toga.gamergivingback.com/

(Slightly off-topic but if we similarly could get some support for Pink Day in LA next time it comes around that would also be awesome)

Constructive Feedback - Playing since Beta W1

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

I’ve been contemplating making this post for a while and now I feel I have enough to say to make it a worthwhile feedback. There is a lot of praise I have to give this game, I love it a lot but this feedback is specifically to give constructive critism for the things I feel need to change. First let me quickly explain my background a bit.

Quick Background

I’ve been playing since Beta Weekend 1, all subsequent weekends/stress tests and since headstart I’ve played about 1500 hours. The character I played most on (1350 hours) is my Mesmer.

I run a pretty succesful guild with about 120 members (http://www.destinysedge.net). I’ve played MANY games and have been running (or in leading positions) in guilds since I was 16 (I’m 26 now/Female).

Community/Guilds

Community focus is incredibly lacking in this game, not incredibly… severely. The majority of the current mechanics within the game are either lacking in functionality and/or have this feeling of being forced to play with PuG’s/Strangers.

There is no content for large groups and guilds to do within this game other than WvW and Dragons (The latter being hardly worth mentioning let’s be honest). All the content that I was envisioning there to be for guilds after launch isn’t there.

Instead I was forced to come up with activities for my guild to do through creativity (Hide’n’seek, Run naked across tyria etc.) or even things outside of the game itself. The point is there is only so much I can come up with and I shouldn’t have to be the one to provide all the guild entertainment. Guild wars 2 is the MMO and should therefore provide content for guilds.

People are getting bored with the repeated made up events and starting to feel forced to mingle when there is nothing in game that really requires you to be a community.

All the fun activities (with all I mean there is really just one atm…) and now holiday activities are all about playing with random people. People don’t want to be forced to play with random people. They want to play with guild members and friends.

Keg brawl, Why was this so neglected? Why is there no way to make set teams/tournaments for guilds only? Where are the other many mini-games promised that aren’t about playing with randoms and/or holiday themed?

Then Wintersday came a long, perfect opportunity to have some activities going with guilds and friends in mind you’d think…. Can’t play snowball mayhem with parties (fair enough it’s pvp, need to be fair but still.. it’s meant to be a fun activity), Can’t do bell choir with the groups you want (Not to mention the horrendous lag spikes).

Jumping puzzle, sure we can join others from our party but lets be honest it’s mostly a solitary activity, Tixx Dungeon… Fair enough this is a party instance (If repetitive). Then there is Toypocalypse, there is NO reason why this couldn’t have been a party instance or even better a guild instance.

Guild Halls… Fair enough they are coming up but PLEASE make them in the same manner as Heart of the Mists, a stop between the world and Lion’s Arch, simply press G and ‘Go to guild hall’ would be perfect. Within the guild hall have mini-games you can play with your guild and run events.

Have useful vendors there (banks, merchant, trading post) but leave crafting and mystic forge in Lion’s Arch only. This will also alleviate overflow issues within Lion’s Arch. Nobody likes being in overflow in cities.

Of course have a portal to Lion’s Arch here. A way to thoroughly customise the guild hall for a guilds personal flavour would be great too. I will literally cry if guild halls are some far away instance you have to deliberately travel to, out of your way.

Guild rosters, Why is there no way to see how much someone is representing? (A percentage when hovering their name would be great) and why can’t we see when someone last logged in? I’d also like to be able to see which crafting professions people have regardless of character and at what level each is (Perhaps make it so you can click someones name and open a profile with more in depth detail about that person?).

Influence, Some of the buffs everyone uses cost too much influence. What I mean is as a PvX guild to run all buffs at all times (meaning you have to speed up some builds) just costs more than you can make even as a good size guild like my own. I feel forced to pick between a couple at a time.

Chat, Because everything is about being in parties or running solo there is hardly any incentive for people to talk in guild chat. There needs to be more content for guild groups to do and talk about.

There is a lack of incentive for people to stick with a guild, be loyal and communicate. No matter how hard you work for it, it’s like trying to get oil and water to stick together, Guilds need some help from the game itself, an adhesive, a reason to have a community. It’s just not there at the moment.

The "Inspect Gear" Discussion.

Fay.2735

If people can do dungeons naked then gear is certainly not as big a factor as elitists propose. To be honest I’m so disgusted by half the posts in this topic, the attitude that people think gear makes a dungeon go smoother is just…

I’ve seen newcomers and lower level people do far better in dungeons than most lvl 80’s full beserker speed run krew ‘oh I done this dungeon 10million times’ then die right away at first obstacle.

Kicking people for not being lvl 80 not having full exotics or full berserkers gear or not even the right profession is just…

Gear does NOT make a good player in the slightest. NO to gear checks because it supports a bad attitude. If you want to do your elitist speed runs be my guest but do not ask for implementation of a horrible system to force your ways even further making it impossible for those who don’t to enjoy the game as is already a problem in this community as it stands making experiences for newcomers to the game absolutely dreadful.

Anyway there’s a lot I would like to say as these kind of people really irritate me but I don’t think there would be anything constructive to come from it.

I loved SAB Got like, 7 yellow weapons. Just as some people dislike SAB some people really love it. I think it would be nice if they could finish the content and release it permanently, then focus on the main game again. I think it’s nice to have something so refreshingly different available for those who like it.

And hey, maybe if they make those checkpoints actually ‘save’ points it won’t be as difficult for more people to complete the maps.

Season 1 | Lack of Major Male Characters!

in Living World

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

That’s not what the thread is about! Its the lack of Male characters. People are not asking to remove this female character or that one because there are too many.

We are saying for balance and equality ADD in some male characters that some people enjoy identifying with. Why would this be a problem? You have quite a few female characters taking up key roles, how about some for the guys…

Personally I don’t identify with Braham, he’s a dimwitted oaf that hits first and thinks later. Faren and his fancy panties is a joke, Canach is a villian that has perhaps seen the error of his ways and currently rots in a cell, and Evon is a opportunist with questionable ethics (tbh I like Evon the most out of this sad ragtag bunch). The other two are Logan the love sick puppy who I would expect to see carrying around Jennah’s purse while she goes shopping and Rytlock who is so caught up in administration duties you barely see him anymore.

The best two real male heroes of this game were Forgal and Tybalt and they were unfortunately killed off. They had substance of character.

So ultimately I agree with the OP, there is a lack of male major characters, or should I say GOOD ones.

I know I didn’t suggest the thread was about removing female characters. I’m just making the point that normally the female characters are the ‘dumb oafs’ and ‘fancy panties’ weird stuff in other games so it’s nice to see these stereotypes reversed for a change.

That perhaps this can serve as an example to the people who have a go at woman (Or some men) who complain about the female characters in the video game industry as to why it can become tiring to always be represented in a bad way in a lot of games. Luckily this is improving all the time now. It’s just really nice to see. (Also not saying anyone in specific is saying this. Just making a general observation that the complaint is ironic in that sense).

Like I said I would like to see more male characters as well That’s not what my point was about.

More Skimpy Armor Please? [Merged]

Fay.2735

I think it’s nice that there’s an MMO that has mostly covered up armor first and foremost with some skimpier choices on the side. I think it’s good in that it gives the characters in game overall more integrity and credibility. I mean just look at TERA can anyone take those people serious?

Either way I’m all for diversity of choice but if you look at the flipside I hardly see any male skimpy armor or asura, why don’t they get those choices? (not that I’d want the latter)

I actually would prefer to see more covered up armor sets that are more unique, feminine and beautiful for my characters. I feel that most of the covered up armor isn’t very detailed, weird and mostly not very complimentary. I wouldn’t mind seeing more types of dresses like this:

Season 1 | Lack of Major Male Characters!

in Living World

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

If you dislike the fact that there are so many female characters. Maybe you can now understand why a lot of female gamers have been getting tired of all male casts in every other game EVER. Or at least to me I find it harder to relate to a cast of predominantly male characters (Some may disagree).

It’s refreshing to see more woman represented in varying roles and equally seeing male characters in the kind of intellectually challenged role you would usually see woman in (Lord Faren). Usually games are filled with the dumb girl that needs saving tropes. It’s definitely nice to see woman characters being treated the way male characters are usually treated in other games and vice versa. It’s about time more games do this and treat genders more equally and varied. No stereotypes attached to a specific gender and instead have either be fair game.

That’s not to say I wouldn’t mind more male characters. I think it would be nice if there could be more of them but not for the usual reason of it merely being the norm.

Could they have picked worse skins for WvW?

in WvW

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

I think people are misunderstanding the reason for why this armour was added and maybe should look more at the positive side of the improvement.

First people QQ that they have to do PvE to obtain the exotics with different stat combinations. So Anet puts in gear with different stat combos that allows you to stay in WvW yet people still QQ. Seriously if people rage quit because they got what they asked for but didn’t get a shiny skin that’s just sad tbh.

Sure new unique skin looks for WvW would be nice but that doesn’t change the fact that this is an improvement. I also highly disagree with putting unique dungeon skins in WvW. Those skins are for the those specific dungeons only. I’m all for more unique skins but current unique skins should stay with the places you obtain them from and should stay unique to that content.

So yes you get crappy basic skins but at least you get the stat combinations you need within WvW itself. Just like everyone I would love to see nicer unique skins for WvW and I’m pretty confident that they will in time but until they can invest resources into making these we at least have access to good gear.

In this patch you’ve received huge improvement in culling, you get different stat options for gear, you get character progression so you have a new purpose within WvW to work on. Maybe focus on all that’s been added and not what has not yet been added.

Things take time to develop especially in a game type that requires careful balancing/testing and there’s only so many resources that can be invested in various things. I sincerely appreciate the improvements we have received this patch and knowing they will continue to work on improving things is great as well just have to be more patient. The game only has been out 7 months and loads of content has been added/improved since launch and they will continue to improve all parts of the game. I really don’t understand the negative attitude whenever improvements are made people act so ridiculously entitled sometimes.

As for ascended gear. Who cares about that unless you are into hardcore gear threadmill fractal grind. Those couple of extra stats aren’t going to make the difference between winning or losing in WvW. If you want more competitive pvp you can do spvp. WvW at the end of the day is just a giant open world free for all, mostly casual pvp zone. Things aren’t controlled nor fair so who cares about about a couple more stats that mean nothing when majority of the time fights are uneven, this isn’t WoW where a couple of extra stats = win.

Guild Missions [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fay.2735

Fay.2735

So for some time I didn’t get into this whole debate mainly because I felt the guild missions was a good thing but now understanding the way they work I’m really a bit disappointed.

I run a 100 member guild with about 30+ active on good days (time for an inactivity check again soon since there’s no last login option). So yes we’re a fairly medium sized guild.

We had saved up about 120k influence over the months sticking around the 100k mark thinking this would be more than enough influence for any new influence related things that may come out but it appears that I was wrong.

First off. We were very excited thinking we were able to pick the guild mission type that we wanted to do first. Turns out we can’t pick the ones we want because it requires all the other ones to be unlocked. Why? What’s the point in that?

Second. So despite that we thought okay well we’ll just follow the designated order then someone pointed out the unlocks said VI not V as in there was an additional level unlock for most of them. I mean why? There’s nothing even between Level 5 and 6 it’s just an unnecessary influence dump. Influence I wouldn’t have wasted on those guild buffs for months if I had known we would need THAT much influence. I felt like the 100k we kept aside was a lot!

To unlock everything you will need:

Art of War 5 = 20.000
Art of War 6 = 30.000
Bounty = 30.000
Challenge = 50.000
Economy 5 = 20.000
Economy 6 = 30.000
Trek = 50.000
Politics 5 = 20.000
Politics 6 = 30.000
Rush = 50.000
Architecture 6 = 30.000
Puzzle = 50.000

Total = 410.000

That’s an insane amount I mean if we were able to choose which mission we want to unlock then I wouldn’t have minded so much because at least we’d be able to do what we enjoy while we slowly work towards other missions. Now however we can’t do the ones we want most (Puzzle and Rush) because it will take ages to get them unlocked and influence we definitely don’t have.

My suggestions/plea would be:

- Allow guilds to choose which one to unlock first.
- Make it so that you need to unlock level 6 brackets to do tier 3 missions in stead of blocking complete access to the first tiers because only large guilds will generally have enough people to do them anyway and will have the influence to dump on the level 6 requirement. Smaller guilds who particularly like one mission type can invest in that specific one if they really wanted to (Maybe have tier 1 fall between level 3 and 4, tier 2 between 5 and 6, tier 3 after 6).
- Make it so the higher the tier the more merits and influence they cost to build/unlock rather than requiring a lot of merits for unlocking the mission type entirely (e.g. 0 merits/200 influence for tier 1 gmerits earned = 25 per, 100 merits/400 influence for tier 2 gmerts earned = 30 , 300 merits/800 influence for tier 3 gmerits earned = 35).

This would still keep long term progression that was intended while not blocking content entirely

As it stands I feel small guilds and even medium ones are treated unfairly. I understand needing to work towards unlocking them but I feel that a per tier structure makes far more sense than a ‘you are forced to spend a fortune on all of these and small guilds forget even playing them!’.

How are small guilds meant to be able to recruit people if they have no chance of growing without reasonable access to at least some of the guild mission content?

Also if it’s true (not sure if it is) that you can earn more commendations by guild hopping, then what was the point of guild missions? I thought they were intended to solidify community not fracture it more? If the reason for being in a guild was now also guild missions how does this help us medium and small guilds if the bigger guilds tempt away members because of their complete access to content not to mention making people guild hop even more for extra rewards?

I love guild missions, I love that there’s finally larger group pve content for our guild, the content is a lot of fun so far, the missions are just brilliant for bringing the guild together but some changes are needed so smaller guilds are not hugely disadvantaged. Also remove the ability to get extra commendations by guild hopping, rewards should be guild exclusive.

Thanks for reading,

Lilyfay

oh look another thread by some guy that beat like 2 dungeons.
gj champ.

I’ve done all paths in AC, CM, TA and SE on story mode and explorable and I agree with the OP I can honestly say they are very much doable with determination and a good group of people. I would NOT like this content to be nerfed. There’s a whole world out there ready to be explored that is generally easier to do than dungeons plenty of content there for casuals.

If the dungeons are too hard for you find something else to do. They are only a small portion of the game so I don’t understand why people get so upset by not being able to do Explorable. Same with the jumping puzzles, If you can’t do it there’s plenty of other content out there for you to enjoy.

Leave some really hard content in for the gamers who like a challenge or who are skilled and deserve a reward for that. The dungeons are the closest thing we have to raiding so they should stay hard.

For those who complain story mode is too hard, It’s a joke. I’ve seen plenty of non hardcore, Casual gamers being able to complete them as long as there is one person at least who knows what they’re doing so this all just comes down to the patience of individual players who leave after a single wipe. Beside this is quite normal for all MMO’s where a lot of players give up as soon as something requires effort.

I think your views border a little on the extreme. If I dislike something -regardless of what it is or isn’t – that doesn’t automatically means I’m scared of it and I want it to not exist.

What if I dislike some type of car? Does that mean I want that brand to cease existing? Does that mean I cower with fear internally each time one passes me by in the street?

And comparing living, breathing humans who feel and love with cars isn’t extreme? Your extreme lack of empathy and care is mind-boggling. You’re comparing transgender people with pieces of metal, objects, lacking in humanity. Your logic is very flawed and honestly VERY disconcerting.

I think you’re wrong calling people phobic. A phobia isn’t what you think it is.
If you look up phobia it means this : “In clinical psychology, a phobia is a type of anxiety disorder, usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great lengths in avoiding, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed, often being recognized as irrational.”

If I dislike something or do not agree with something doesn’t necessarily make it a phobia.
If I don’t particularly like cats and have objections to a cat being in a place that doesn’t mean I have ailurophobia (fear of cats).

I think you’re too lax in your labeling things phobias.

Oh my apologies, let me clarify, I meant hatred towards transgender people and fear of anyone who doesn’t ascribe to cultural notions of what gender they should be and therefore demanding they do not exist because who knows what scary things might happen if we admit to their existence right? Also see:

I suggest looking closer at your ‘excuses’ as to why this NPC shouldn’t be allowed to exist.

If you fall far behind in Sanctum Sprint. Pick up the blue basket things. These will often give an elite skill that allows you to teleport to the next checkpoint. This is great for people who aren’t very fast and can that way catch up.

Picking up the blue baskets will also often give you a special protection skill on your heal slot so every time you get a lightning cloud above your head use that. It gives stability and prevents you from being dazed/unable to move and being knocked over by fake crystals if you spot one coming up in front of you.

The red baskets give attack skills. Blue baskets defensive/supportive skills.

@ kta – I have to say I do not agree with majority of your statements. I mean I do understand the part of wanting to protect children but this is up to the parents to do and guide their children through it. It’s down to the parents to study a game before letting their children play it and make sure they feel free to ask questions. This is not the games responsibility.

Secondly, You will have been killing creatures/people and have experienced your character dying for quite some time before getting to the marionette stage so you can’t honestly say people weren’t prepared for it or wouldn’t have known what this game might include at this point.

If kids really get upset about it. Suggest games like the Myst series. They’re really good puzzle games that are also challenging intellectually without any violence. Most games will include some sort of death or failure situation so I honestly don’t understand how this is a sudden big surprise/issue. I think it’s important that children are taught to be okay with failing as reality is that nobody can always be perfect at everything and everything has consequences that require people to take responsibility for their mistakes.

Furthermore, Arenanet is an AMERICAN company and a lot of American movies and horrors and games are extremely violent. You cannot honestly say that violence and gore is an European thing because American media is just as bad for it (I mean, you’re even fine with people owning guns in real life… if you don’t teach your kids the severity of death and killing and distinguishing it from games/movies/media than how can they possibly learn to understand the seriousness of guns).

Guild Wars 2 is quite suitable for 12 year olds. They will have seen much worse in other places or heard/seen from friends. Again this is up to the parents, the rating system just sets a guideline for parents to follow. Whatever you feel is suitable is best but it all comes down to you, it’s your responsibility to research these things and set boundaries.

If there really are kids who gotten upset about a giant robot/ufo killing their pixel character in a virtual world than their parents must have done something really wrong in teaching their kids on how to distinguish reality to games. This just sounds like a parenting problem not a game problem.

Everyone who wanted to participate in the in-game events had to wear pink so it’s not surprising that the prices went up a bit. But we raised over 9000 dollars so far from the events so

If you want to do this boss, get 3 full dps wars and 2 mesmers with time warp. I was lucky enough to find a group the other day on gw2lfg that had been in there for hours (i believe they said 8-9) and were up to this boss and were looking for a dps heavy war which i happen to be.

They were fighting her in the cave and prior to engaging we stacked about 30-40 tears against the wall where us 3 warriors would stay to prevent agroing sparks and mow her down. The other 2 were an ele and a mes who did a great job at getting the sparks into position and with a couple of nicely timed time warps we took Simin down on our 2nd attempt.

Afterwards they reminded me how lucky i was to get in that group haha. Thanks again guys.

This is the problem with profession balancing. 2 elementalists, a mesmer, a necro and an engineer should be able to accomplish the same encounter as well. It shouldn’t be restricted to insane deeps 3 warriors + mesmer timewarp.

How many people play Guild Wars 2?

I see people everywhere I go to be honest but I play on busier servers. Actually what I’ve been witnessing is that a lot of people that stopped playing have come back and started playing again and there are a lot of new players playing as well. So quite the opposite of what some people are saying.

Mesmer - A Matter of Perspective

in Mesmer

Fay.2735

Thanks for the big compliment Chaos. (Large wall of text inbound:)

I’ve been a firm believer from the start to play what you enjoy. When I first gained the Dungeon Master title in the first month or so of the games release. Nobody was really doing speed runs because nobody knew the optimal tactics at the time and it was fun, discovering, learning, experiencing the content.

In fact I distinctly remember how Mesmers were the least liked profession in dungeons and people advertising groups stating ‘No Mesmers’ at the time this was because nobody knew much about Mesmers or how to play the class properly.

Like yourself I don’t like skipping mobs and cheesing fights constantly. To me this feels like ignoring the fight mechanics, ignoring the content there. It’s not fun to do in my opinion and although I can see some of these speed run strategies require a little bit of practice/skill I feel it requires more general experience and skill to do all the encounters properly without cheesing it.

Because at the end of the day, if you don’t skip or cheese all the encounters you actually get confronted with the mechanics of the game. The more mechanics you are experienced with countering the better your general knowledge and skill in the game will be.

This also goes for expanding your experience across game modes. After gaining a lot of experience with the dungeon and PvE content I dove into WvW and found a whole new level of experiences that I was unpracticed and inexperienced at. Suddenly I had to adjust my play-style, become better and learn new things.

It went even further when I then expanded into sPvP. I honestly am a firm believer that although being good at one game mode doesn’t automatically make you good at another. I certainly feel the lessons you learn in each will improve your overall ability in the game and as a Mesmer as a whole.

I often see people from each game mode make fun of the other. For example I see WvWers/sPvPers make derogatory comments about PvEers as if they’re bad but then if you place them into a dungeon they are 9 times out of 10 dreadful. Expanding your general knowledge can only improve your ability as a player.

Being tunnel visioned into one game mode, ignoring game mechanics by skipping things. This hampers your growth as a player. You hold yourself back by cheesing/ignoring things.

I even feel this way about things like SAB. People don’t like it, because it’s hard. But practicing in SAB tribulation mode improves your precision and timing overall. I think jumping puzzles in general have helped me improve as a Mesmer. Or with the Gauntlet having to fight a boss like Liadri. All these things add up to making you a better player.

So, to not run builds because they aren’t optimal cheese factories is only limiting your own ability and experience in the game. Sure it’s what some people enjoy but it’s actually only running a certain build and cheesing content that makes you overall a worse player than players who experiment and learn by expanding their experience and knowledge.

I know there’s this whole culture of speed running in gw2. Everyone’s eyes are on getting the most reward the fastest. For me it’s always been about the journey. Enjoying the road to the end, enjoying the now before it passes, enjoy the company of the people there and that’s why I rarely pug groups because you loose out of experience from skipping content as well as the social interaction with others that make the game more fun.

I truly wish more people would forgo speed running but it’s just general human nature to try to gain things the fastest, easiest. You can explain this to people as much as you like but people will do what they do and all you can really decide is what you do yourself and the people you do it with.

But if you really want to become better as a player as a Mesmer you will have to dive into all aspects of the game and try different builds extensively and always seek the hardest encounters. That is my advice to anyone wanting to improve anyway.

Dungeon Updates

Thank you for making the easy paths in the dungeons harder. Please don’t listen to all the people who complain about money/gear/xp and things being too hard, This content wasn’t made for them but for us who like a challenge.

The dungeons are meant to be hard and a real achievement to complete. They aren’t there for people to make money, gear or XP. The tokens are also optional. The real fun lies on completing the content with skilled friends by figuring out the tactics. I love how each fight has a unique flavour to it so you never quite know what to expect.

My only complaint is that some fights need some re-balancing and bugs fixed. Such as the searing effigy fight in CoF being too unpredictable making it more about luck not to mention that certain group combinations/professions and builds give the fight a real disadvantage (Made a post about this already) and it’s no longer about skill or tactics but a gamble which a fight shouldn’t be.

Also the end fight on the third CoF path not rewarding an achievement is something that needs looking at (Unless this was fixed and not mentioned as I haven’t had time to redo it).

As soon as I noticed loads of people wearing the armour despite the look being really cool knowing it was so easily gained it just yells to me ‘I took advantage of a balancing issue/exploit and think I’m so cool because of it’ which to me does the exact opposit.

It’s no sign of skill or experience or patience or anything. At the moment it just makes you look bad. Which is a real shame it’s one of the nicest dungeon sets.
