Healing support need's improvement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Inculpatus cedo.9234

Inculpatus cedo.9234

There are no ‘healers’ in the game, so I am unsure what it is you want to be ‘fixed’. There was much discussion even before the game launched that players would never rely on others for healing, but primarily themselves.

Here is an article about healing in GW2:

Heal: Don’t belittle the SUPPORT role by calling it heal. Healing is the least dynamic kind of support there is. It is reactive instead of proactive. Healing is for when you are already losing. In Guild Wars 2 we prefer that you support your allies before they take a beating. Sure, there are some healing spells in Guild Wars 2, but they make up a small portion of the support lines that are spread throughout the professions. Other kinds of support include buffs, active defense, and cross-profession combinations.

For instance, an elementalist can support his allies by dropping down a ground-targeted healing rain that rejuvenates allies in an area. He might also use Windborne Speed to help them chase down a target or escape out of longbow range. A warrior might shout “On My Target” to help his allies do more damage to a marked enemy, or use his warhorn to “Call to Arms” which improves the armor of his allies for a short time.

We use our cross-profession combos to fill in the rest of our support. An elementalist can create a Firewall or Static Field to improve the ranged attacks of his allies. A warrior can carry a Banner of Wisdom around the battlefield to increase the power of his allies’ magical attacks. An elementalist might cast an ice spell to freeze enemies, but that same spell might give his allies Frost Armor to protect them from incoming attacks. When you boil it down, support is just the friendly way for players to work together to accomplish a shared goal.

You see, for me, anyway, adding Dungeons would not be end-game. What I mean is I don’t particularly do much Dungeon-running so that would not be something I would do at ‘end-game’. I guess end-game means anything after Level cap. I would rather have the new content that changes every two weeks, rather than something one would do over and over and over. I guess I get bored quickly. But, that’s just me. =)

Oooo! And as for the world changing outside of Instances, there are some mysterious Spectral Flames showing up all over different areas of Ascalon. What has Rytlock instigated/released?!

Excess HoT mastery points for LS3

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Inculpatus cedo.9234

Inculpatus cedo.9234

Can we downgrade these form “mastery” points to “casual” points? I thought the whole point was to have to work towards them and learn to master aspects of the game. Now they throw so many at you that you just get plopped in front of it is just not fun to get them anymore.

At least the raid mastery point additions took a few hours work to learn the fights.

I agree with this suggestion. Might as well delete mastery points from the game because it is so easy to get enough for everything, especially HoT masteries. And the exp is even easier to get. I think the whole mastery system is a failure at the current implementation.
Not the things you unlock with masteries, but masteries do not feel like you accomplished everything since Anet basically throws everything at you for barely any effort. Being masterly lvl 170 is just as meaningless as being lvl 80 pre HoT.

The same problem exist with legendaries. They are so common and easy to make that the name legendary is missleading.

I’m not sure most of the playerbase plays 6, 8, 10 hours a day. Not playing for extended amounts of time, they may not be so adept, and it may actually be more challenging and time-consuming to ‘accomplish everything’.

Thus, I hope (and am pretty sure) ArenaNet designs content with more than the outliers in mind.

Bad troll is bad.

OP, you sound like a complete clown. I don’t normally like comments like “Go back to WoW,” but I think for once this thread actually suits it. People who are new, or low level, should not be treated poorly or have “dominance” lorded over them by more experienced players.

You are ridiculous, and the fact that you’re even asking what a sign of experience and skill even is, makes you more ridiculous. Every word you say just demonstrates that you are a “newbie” yourself.

Picking the game up at launch, then leaving and coming back years later without a clue about what’s going on or how the game works, does not make you a “pioneer.” What a joke.

See this is the kind of behavior a veteran like me shouldn’t have to deal with.

ROFL. A veteran would know how long it takes to make a Legendary. No AP, no forum posts other than this thread, no knowledge. /shm

What is needed is a title that proclaims ‘I bought the game long ago, but have little play experience – be in awe!’

Good luck.

Always torn on things like this. It’s great some players get something fun they wanted and that it funds the game, but a part of me feels like each time things like these appear it takes the game further away from having its own identity/theme.

I guess it keeps the game going ultimately

Since Cat Ears were a rather popular part of Guild Wars (One), I don’t think their return (to GW2) takes the game further away from having its own identity/theme. More like a nod to its past identity. Just my opinion, of course.

What the new combined dailies system should have been like:

Have at least 8 dailies from each of the 3 game modes so players can complete their daily by playing exclusively the gamemode they want, and have the option of completing it faster if they want to mix and match game modes.

This current implementation is a huge step backwards IMO. The old system at least showed the bare minimum of respect for players’ freedom to play the way they want due to the sheer number of options available to complete the daily.

Trying to manipulate players into playing the way YOU want is not going to work out well in the long term. In fact, even in the short term it will impact your player retention rates.

Keep a close eye on those login/daily completion stats, ANet. Hopefully you can realize what a horrible decision this was before it’s too late.

Likely, one of the reasons it was streamlined is because many people were unhappy because they felt the need to do every Daily offered. It is too bad for the rest of the population.

ArenaNet has raised the server caps twice in the past. Considering the half-off sales promotion, and the amount of posts from new players, they thought it best to raise the caps once again.

I gather you know this because Anet announced this previously. If there were no news from Anet, I would just go ahead and say people are taking a break or are moving on.

Yes, ArenaNet did announce this previously. A couple of times. Here is one such announcement:

Some people can fix this issue by picking up any items they might have in the TP waiting for them. You don’t have to finish the PS first to unlock or play any Season Two episodes. You do need to be Level 80 to play them, but not to unlock them. If you have ever received the mail once, on a character, you don’t need to receive it again for another character, just reading the first one on a different character will start the episode, as well.

Also, make sure your mailbox is not full. Good luck.

Weapon Skins Going away!!

Inculpatus cedo.9234

http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/05/09/working-as-intended-what-guild-wars-2-got-wrong/

The gear and lockbox situation is frustrating

Collecting armor and weapon skins in classic Guild Wars was what I lived for, but Guild Wars 2 has trapped way too much of that metagame behind a pay wall and a grind wall, which has more than once stifled my desire to play or pay for anything. The armor available in the current gem store commits the cardinal sin of being infrequent and ugly, and the nicest in-game armor skins require specific dungeon tokens (and associated grinding) in a dramatic departure from Guild Wars, which simply required you to procure the money however you preferred, acquire the materials, and complete the requisite campaigns or maps. The weapon skins are even worse; those you can find dropped or buyable normally within the game aren’t much in the eyecandy department, and the most beautiful skins require extreme grinding or the purchase of lockboxes from the cash shop — lottery tickets that give you a chance at a drop that you can trade for something worth wielding. I know the game needs to make money somehow, but this is a huge turn-off for such a cosmetic-centric game.

The cash shop offerings themselves continue to stump me. I can understand buying gold, but I don’t know who buys llama finishers (see the top image) or weak consumables or overpriced eternal harvesting tools or chef hats or lockbox lottery tickets for weapons and dyes and minipets. Yuck. I am never even tempted by these things. I want to support the game, and when I open up the cash shop, I am there to buy beautiful armor and stunning skins directly. Even better, I’d love to buy new classes, new weapon types, new skins for my minions and pets, new animations, new particle effects, new dailies options, and new explorable maps! Please let me give you my money. And let’s pass on the llama finishers.

Think this is very relevant.

I think this is the opposite of what I expect or want to see in the Gem Store. Weapons? Professions? Dailies? Maps? No, thank you. Finishers and Harvesting Tools, etc? Yes, please.

I think they are removing some of the less popular weapon sets (really, Sclerite?) to make room for more weapon sets we might find more appealing. There have been comments about the menus being bloated, and scrolling through several pages aren’t welcomed by some.
