How many people still play alone?

Morrigan.2809

Huh, kind of similar to you Reaper — I only play with my girlfriend. We enjoy jumping on a few days a week together after work. We like doing our own thing at our own pace, have our own guild, and to be honest, we have more fun just playing by ourselves. It’s a bit of a bummer that there isn’t much challenging end game content for one or two people though. I’d kill to have just one or two permanent two-man dungeons in this game.

this-
I like to play with my husband.

I was part of a huge guild when the game launched but then I resigned so my husband and I can start our own guild.
I mostly solo since my husband is heavily into BF3

I like running into random people and just doing stuff with out the need to party.
I have a pretty large friend list that I chat to all the time so I never feel lonely at all.

Of course I can’t do Guild Missions by myself but that is a small price to pay, since I cannot stand guild drama, politics and obligations.

I will never join a guild just for the sake of being in one

Guild Halls/Player Housing

Morrigan.2809

I see no use/need for player housing and would much rather they spend the development time on real content. Player housing would add no play value to the game at all except for the very small RPG crowd.
New races, new skills, new dragons, expand the personal story, new lands, then and ONLY then should they even consider something as useless as housing.

You are welcome to your opinion- but the CDI disagrees with you- many people want player housing and it is not useless by a long shot and can add quite a lot of game play to the world- apart from the fact that you end up with a house too.

not sure why you think we will not have the other things- because we will

It seems like just lately the forums are even more a look into the abyss than usual, while ingame it is a whole different story.

People seem to be getting their groove in the game and communities are forming with great humour and in general are very laid back.
New people are helped and encouraged and welcomed.
Vet players are having fun and helping each other.

It is like a different world in game- instead of QQ about something you will see people offering solutions, workarounds or just help.

Skills tied to weapons, combat in general.
Cosmetic progression

Living Story
The ability to create your own goals
Pick up and play with out falling behind.

Everyone stop complaining about ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

Stop complaining as if this is the end of the game doom-all end-all bring forth the cataclysm wtfgtfo ihatethisgameiquit rage posts.

Think about it. Guild Wars 2 as a compeltely new game.

If they didn’t have ascended gear, or even legendaries for that matter. EVERYone even casual players. Would complain about the lack of end game gearing. You just get a basic crafted exotic and thats it? Nothing more to it?

Luckily, they released the game with Legendaries, which gives the players a big, long term, difficult goal to work towards.

If Guild Wars 2 released with the Ascended tier in place, there wouldn’t be anyone complaining about it.

It is an end-game gearing step up that you can work for. It doesn’t take that long. It isn’t that hard.

It seriously makes sense that you have all slots with just your run-of-the-mill ascended items as a casual to moderate player. Exotics just simply don’t cut it for that ’I’ve reached the last tier’ feeling.

Guild Wars 2 needs ascended gear. While yes, it DID go against their ‘Manifesto’ or whatever about adding a gear treadmill, but don’t blow it out of proportion.

This gear is no harder to obtain than a Legendary, it’s not completely necessary to obtain them, and it really does standardize their offerings for end game gear.

Why would you have ascended backpieces or jewellery, but not any other slot?

So, stop complaining so much. The tier makes a lot of sense from a game design perspective. It doesn’t go against their manifesto too much. If it was in the game from the beginning most of you wouldn’t have thought 2 seconds about it.

Instead of complaining about how Ascended is bad, try thinking of ways where they could make horizontal progression if you don’t want them to continue adding tiers beyond this.

They explicitly said they wouldn’t add tiers above this – this is really just completing the game tbh. So what about horizontal options? How would you do it?

Turn your unconstructive and completely misguided complaints about Ascended gear into a positive direction for GW2. Tell the devs what you want out of end game instead of throwing a bubble fit about an item tier that makes lots of sense for Guild Wars 2 as a game.

I was happy with the endgame thank you very much- I have been playing the game for more than a year and I have never had a problem finding things to do. I do have a problem with a game forcing me in a direction that I do not find fun or even mildly interesting.
I understand that you need clear goals in a game but please don’t exaggerate and claim that everyone does.

As for this whole thing- I love the game- I play almost everyday- I just got my friend to buy the game so we can play together.

So this weekend what did I do?
I didn’t even log in- just thinking about GW2 makes me tired at this point and sad and disappointed.

Is Anet afraid of expansion not selling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

No I am saying GW2 is not really B2P!
B2P means you generate your main income by box-sales that being the original game and expansions. GW2 now uses micro transactions to generate it’s main income so there is a need for thinks like RNG boxes. And would they do that away something else bad will come in it’s place. Generating your main income on micro transaction is called a F2P payment model. Thats what GW2 is using with the only difference is that they did charge money for the initial box. Looking back on that now it is sort of rude to give a F2P game experience but asking money for the game.

Anyway.. What I am saying if if they would indeed turn back to using a real B2P model and so generating their main income with expansions, not with micro-transactions then they can get rid of RNG-boxes, the gold-driven economies (gold is better then farming items them-self) and the many other examples I have given over and over again in this and some other threads.

Sorry but you cannot say that just because you think so.

Here is the definition of B2P from the Urban Dictionary:
1. B2P
Meaning “buy to play.” It is used to describe MMORPG’s that you only have to pay for once to play it.
Guild Wars is a B2P game.

that is what it is

It is also not a case of GW2 “now uses micro transactions”… the business model was announced before launch. They have done exactly what they said they were going to do.

Just so you understand what F2P actually is:

1. f2p
Free to play. Ussually used in games that have a free as well as a pay version or mode.
<Player1> u cant use that item in f2p
<Player2> There are better items out there

As in- sorry you can’t run because you are f2p
Sorry that dungeon is premium only
etc etc

and last but not least
Pay to Win:

1. pay-to-win
Games that let you buy better gear or allow you to make better items then everyone else at a faster rate and then makes the game largely unbalanced even for people who have skill in the game without paying.
Dude, you’ve spent like 400 bucks on this game so you can beat everyone who hasn’t spent any money. Pay-to-win noob!

So please- you are starting to remind me of those guys with the sandwich boards that says “the end is Nigh”

Until they do something about the shadow behemoth the zerg mentality is still present in Queensdale. Downscale it, reduce rewards and put it on a random timer. Then scourge of the zerg will be purged from Queensdale.

good grief!
one of my favorite memories in the game is the first time I saw Shadow behemoth spawn back at launch
Leave my favorite boss alone
It is bad enough that SB is already so weak- just before the mega server I killed it with 3 other people- and you want it reduced?

BTW Shadow Behemoth was camped long long before the champs even had loot. Remember the Final Rest hunt? when no one knew he dropped it? i and a bunch of people killed him every day.

oh and while you are “purging”- you realize that new players are not some pure as driven snow special little flowers that they need to be protected form the rest of the game at all costs?
There are zergs in the game you know?

we are already so kitten limited in what we can do when and where-
way to go at this rate we will all be standing in LA TP flipping because we can do that as much as we want with no consequences

And frankly I am tired of hearing Queensdale this and Queensdale that- it is not a sacred space- it is one starter zone.
Guess what because of people crying about Queensdale as if it is the lost continent- all starter zone champs are gone.

A new player will never again see a champ in any of the other zones and think ooooo and even get to try their luck- die and bring some friends next time- or come back for revenge at a higher level and kick that champ’s behind.

It was fun, it was how I learned when the game just came out, back then we could play how we wanted

The manifesto gets bandied about by both sides on this forum.
It is incidentally why I bought the game and I got exactly what I expected.
I haven’t been disappointed, I haven’t been “betrayed”, I got precisely what I wanted from a game.

Sorry you don’t feel that way.
I didn’t bring up the manifesto.

As for GW2, it is what it is and either you like it or you don’t.
There is a whole world of games out there to try, it blows my mind that if people don’t like something they don’t go try something else.
Not all people in the world like ice cream, the universe is not going to implode because of it- eat a cookie instead :P

Sorry, I wasn’t saying I didn’t believe in the manifesto…In fact I’m just gonna shut up. It’s too early for me to talk apparently. I meant I liked pretty much everything they did with GW2 except the lack of trinity, but I don’t think having trinity would work with GW2, so that is fine with me

Open world Duels [Merged]

in Suggestions

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

No to duels in the open world. But, I understand you can duel in the new area in WvW by the jumping puzzle. Go for it!

That’s restricted to fighting other people on other servers, and not fight anyone you know. Spvp blows chunks for duels as well because of all the stat restrictions and limited rune choices(Not including the boring old maps). I’m up for open world dueling because NO ONE USES open world for anything(aside from RP spots), so all the scenery is generally wasted unless you’re doing a World Competition, or Guild missions. I think it be a great tool to help practice for fights in WvW, and to test builds with your friends. People afraid of open world dueling are blowing it out of proportion on what they think is going to happen. Why is dueling bad for open world? I mean look at the farming trains….is that really much better?

Farming trains suck.
Saying that no-one uses the openworld apart from your examples is ludicrous and the fact that the word “afraid” once again rears it’s head makes me really angry.

This game was designed around co-operation.
Deal with it

If you want to duel in your PvE gear and practice with your friends- there is no reason why you cannot do so in an arena made for the purpose.
I find it extremely interesting that all the “duelers” are so against having a designated area in the open-world/cities to do so.
That alone tells me these “duelers” are actually gankers

The very concept of gear treadmill exists to keep you grinding away for stuff because you play a subscription and it keeps you in the game.
No thanks- I have said it before- I am not a hamster.
As for grinding why are so many players so attached to it? It is boring and time consuming.
What blows my mind, is that now that people don’t have to grind for better and better stats they grind anyway and then complain that there is nothing to grind for, because it is just skins?
This game is not the same as all the other MMo’s out there- some people still don’t grasp that and continue asking for it to be more like they had in this or that other MMO.

It is never going to be like that. This is a different game.
It has no subscription, if you are bored take a break until a content update.

Btw I am an 80, I do not grind, I do not farm and I certainly don’t do anything I don’t like or find boring.
So far I find new things to see and do everyday- I am really enjoying myself. The PvE in this game is a godsend.

Dont you like to look somehow special?

I do like to feel special but to me that means creating an individual look for my character that compliments the concept I have of her.
I use anything from starter gear to karma skins to order skins to event items, cultural gear etc- I don’t really care where they come from as long as I enjoy the look they create in combination with each other.

To that end I think everything should be trade-able, the exception being legendary weapons.
More diversity makes for more unique characters in the world and that stands out much more to me than the armies of “special” skins I see allover the place.

ON the other hand things like the Fervid Censer marks a time in the game that will never come again- and having it shows you were there.

It is a case of on the one hand and on the other hand really.
Maybe make the RNG skins trade-able and the achievement rewards for LS account bound?

What are people doing in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Some servers are more busy than others and so are some maps.

Generally maps with interesting meta chains have population since those chains are fun and useful for leveling.
Bonus points if the chain ends in a cool boss with a chest.

The event chain meta serves as a concentration point for players in the map.
I do think the solution to the dead zones are more involved meta chains that span the zone- the question is will people do those for fun or will they still just clump up at the loot?
Everyone likes shiny- so add to those events: karma skins to be purchased at the end- a theme for each zone,
add them as rare drops even.

Normalise loot drops in the game so that it is profitable to play anywhere but add cosmetic incentives to do particular content.

That is all I have by way of suggestions

Edit: when PvE culling is finally fixed I think it will make a big difference too- I mean atm people vanish if you are a few feet away- for all I know there might be hordes around

Handling of Ascended Weapons was Atrocious

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

I am actually extremely happy with the way they handled Ascended Weapons.

It’s only 200g if you buy every single mat off the TP.

I just leveled 400-500 huntsman for a total of around 50-60g (probably could’ve done it in around 40g if I wasn’t lazy)

If you have multiple 80s clear all the t6 nodes from CS/FGS/SC/ML you can get 30 ancient logs and 30 ori nodes roughly on each character. I have 3 80s and do this everyday and get about 100 of each everyday. Ectos come easy from rares and doing dungeons/world events and t6 mats I’ll either already have them from normal play or loot bags or buy some off the tp. It’s not even bad.

Getting to 500 is expensive, sure, but the actual crafting of ascended weapons is awesome.

I have multiple level 80’s but get this
I don’t use them for gathering nodes and farming

the most gold I have ever had is 30- I actually have less than 10 now- I don’t care particularly because all my characters look the way I want and I can work towards it if they don’t

For RL reasons I find it difficult to commit to instanced content. ie dungeons, and i will never have the co-ordination for JP
If I cared about this at all I would be a bit screwed- no?

So yes the implementation was awful

I don’t actually want zerg farm to be nerfed really. At most 10%.

I just want every else in the game buffed to be as rewarding and in some cases much better (harder content).

Simple as that.

this
The fact is I do not farm- I don’t find it fun and I don’t like being bored.
I understand that there are actually people out there who like it and they can farm on for all I care.

What I do not want is larger gold sinks in the game to make up for the extra gold gained by farming.
That will leave the non farmer destitute.

We need to have similar rewards for actually playing the content in the game.
Dynamic events need to be rewarding when they succeed and they need to not be rewarding if they fail.
You also need some kind of participation measure so that people do not just jump in at the end of a chain to get a chest.
ATM we have a very lopsided situation were you get rewarded beyond your wildest dreams for doing a mindless repetitive activity, but doing a variety of content and playing the game like a game rewards you with enough to get by if you are lucky

I think it would be great if you guys (Anet) can tell is what is not open for discussion, or off the table as it were.

Then just pick the next topic from the previous selection

This way we will know to stop banging our heads against the wall (Ascended being an example here) and move on to what can actually be adressed

I make my characters to fit a concept I have in my head.
I have 2 human females and they don’t look like me- it never occurred to me to do that.

I am also addicted to Sylvari and I have 5 Sylvari females so far.
As far as character customization Sylvari are anyone’s dream

Yes I should think they are. This has been mentioned many many times here on the forums and in the suggestion forum. Just be patient. Chances are that it will be added at some point.

There was a number of general “no endgame” complains, that’s true, but among those, the people that asked specifically for new geart tier were a tiny minority. Even most of other complainers didn’t want gear grind. They wanted new content – dungeons, new maps, new cool skins. Some wanted raids. Af all those things, Anet picked one that was the least wanted.

You’re right they asked for a variety of things but did arenanet really just give us ascended gear? Because actually they release a new map on their 2nd update and that is the same update that had the ascended gear and associated fractals. In addition that updated included new dynamic events, new jumping puzzles, new crafting.

Which of those did the majority of the players concentrate on? The new map with the added difficulty that people asked for?

The map was boring. It was (and likely still is, even after revamps) the most boring and uninteresting map we have so far. As far as dynamic events went, it was practically empty – it felt dead. And the difficulty was more hps and stronger damage on mobs. Compared to it, FotM was exactly what lot of the players asked – a hard content with a variety of interesting mechanics. It was just fun.
The choice was very simple. And it didn’t have much to do with ascended gear at all.

yeah like most other zones are? cause its not like Southsun is the only zone that has a small population compared to more profitable zones like Orr or Queensdale! Its not that southsun is boring, it isnt if taken in a single month context, it has really nice visuals in fact I’d go so far as to say its one of the most beautiful zones in game with its running waters, rock formations and quite a bit of verticality in some places. It has challenge, its the only zone thats actually a bit hard to solo and it was new. Sure it didnt have the content to support itself for a whole year as it didnt have that many dynamic events but it had enough for a single month worth of play. Yet it was only popular while the one time event when on. How could arenanet justify spending resources on it or in creating a new map like it when players made it clear they didnt care about that kind of content?

Galen, SouthSun is a bad example of a new map- it is pretty I agree and it is a nice difficulty but it is also dead and boring because there is nothing going on.

If you take it and compare it to any of the other maps in the world you can see this.
It lacks the vibrancy and the little details, nevermind the events poi, vistas, hearts etc.
It doesn’t mean that we should now have hearts but they do serve a purpose in making you feel that people actually live there.
If nothing else it needs many ,many more DE’s

After the Southsun Cove story the map changed a little but it needs to change more for it to actually feel like a place

It has a lot of potential but it is not a finished zone by a long shot.

It also has no lore- sure it has an interesting story that we saw happening before our eyes but that needs to be built on- it is just sort of in limbo now as a space for Karka queen to go on a rampage- why I am not sure since I thought we cleaned up the Canach mess

Players care very much about new areas don’t mistake implementation and the response to it for lack of interest

Is it really hard to add dueling?

Have it in one location, far from anyone. If its in the world, Give me an Auto-decline duel request setting.

We don’t need it happening in the cities.

And why not? Because YOU would find it “annoying?”

I think many players would find it annoying
Dueling is fine if it is added to an arena- heck you can even have an arena in all the cities.
Keep it out of the open world though- it doesn’t fit in with the game philosophy of co-operation.
