I really feel I lost a game I loved to play in this latest patch.
you and me both
OP I think you are suffering from MMO conditioning
I get that you liked those things in other games but they do not really make sense in GW2
just one thing, down leveling is one of my favorite features in the game- if anything it should be more because it doesn’t take into account traits
But mostly I feel pretty epic actually
I saw one in Queensdale yesterday- what really scared me was that it had a normal name not something like hufryrw.
It was very clearly a bot too- it spawned right on top on me at the node- mined once and disappeared- too fast to report, because of it’s name I could enter it and report it that way though
I have 3 ,80’s 4th almost there.
I do the personal story on all 7 my characters because I enjoy it.
I haven’t finished on one of them- because a 5 man instance sits at the end of my personal story.
The day they make story mode dungeons scalable from 1-5 party I will be all over them
I agree, I would very much like to know if this is the final stat or vertical progression so I can just continue to ignore it in favor of my own in game goals.
I care about horizontal progression and that is what keeps me playing since betas.
I have no interest in ascended gear at all.
and I will keep all my characters in exotic as long as I am allowed to do so by the game mechanics.
I wish this game forgets all the teenagers and has more adult contents.
just for interest sake what do you consider adult content?
when someone uses that term I always think of those stores in back alleys that sell their wares in brown paper bags :P
“I can make that jump”
The shop prices are really high in general and I can imagine that rather costs them money than earn it. Many items exceed what I like to call my personal wine threshold. I played 2 other games that shifted from subscription fee to microtransaction and the prices were just that low that you would execute the “oh, what the heck, it´s just a few bucks”-click when playing rather tipsy late at saturday night. But here, I never felt that compulsion. Just look at the infinite gathering tools. 800 gems – 10 Euro for just one character, that is too unappealing even for an impulsive transaction in my opinion. I can see they need higher prices than many other microtransaction MMO because of the option to pay with in game money, but the way it is now, a lot of potential buyers are probably put off.
I love your “personal wine threshold” statement since I live in wine country
The permanent harvesting tools for me was an outright buy because it is infinite and I know what I was paying for.
The problem I have with BL keys is that I do not want the stuff in the chests- at least not for gems because I am quite content getting it from the game with the few keys I get, as well as the daily extras you get sometimes.
I love the fact that you can buy the skins off the TP too but as a system for introducing skins in the future- the BL key method sucks.
I would be happy if they put any weapon skins for 800 gems each outright- all though I feel that 600 gems might be more realistic since people are then more likely to get more than one.
Either /or make a scrap a guaranteed drop from the chest- so that you know if you are unlucky- you only need 10 keys.

This would be awesome sure but I don’t know how practical, since no profession exists in a vacuum.
You can’t focus on balancing one profession at a time because it would then be adjusted again when you get to the next profession and the next.
The professions need to be balanced with each other in mind., while keeping the unique flavour of each.
I do think that more resources should be devoted to balancing/ given a higher priority.
This thread again?
Seriously- development time does not grow on trees.
A hair kit is not expensive in terms of in game gold and even less so in real money.
Especially after the farm fest you all got rich on ;P
If you want the hair- buy it, or get the AP so you can get it for free
this was really cool and I enjoyed it very much
I hope to see many more from you- live action stuff Whoo hoo!
Seriously? I mean SERIOUSLY? I just don’t understand all the QQing that happens in MMOs these days! What the hell has happened to MMO society that you all have this sense of self entitlement? Why must it be I want this NOW or I am going to pitch a cry baby tantrum? God FORBID you have to WORK for something?
Do you walk into a work environment with ZERO experience DEMANDING that you be given a management position IMMEDIATELY?
NO!
So why in the world would you expect the best things in a game to be any different? SERIOUSLY?!
Maybe it’s a generational thing… I started with UO the EQ and many more after that… and before you all start talking about oh here he goes with his uphill both ways in the snow argument… no offense but… games used to be MUUUUUUCH harder… to the point that getting the best things would put most of the GW2 community into the fetal position whimpering for their momma…
I EXPECT to have to work to get what I want and by god I do just that… grow up and get over it… put on your big boy pants and spend the, OH NO, two weeks it takes to craft your ascended weapons… Jesus even when I say that it makes me laugh…
oK a couple of things.
people who are against Ascended gear mostly make reasonable posts, pointing out the flaws in the basic concept, not posts like this. I don’t know what to call this
If you don’t understand the issues involved, say so, read the posts that explain it.
The idea that you have to work in a game is stupid, it is a game, not a job. Most of us have played games like that, this is why be bought GW2.
There is also a big difference between working for goals of your choosing and having an arbitrary goal shoved down your throat by the game.
Nobody is being self- entitled, no-one is claiming they should get it for free- we are questioning the reason why we should get it at all.
As for your generational comment- I am 42.
I have enough stuff going on in my rl not to have the time or the energy to put up with nonsense from my hobbies that I use to relax.
Welcome and enjoy the game
You have hit on some of the most enjoyable things for me too.
I started during the betas and I am still having a ball
have fun and don’t be afraid to try new things and all sorts of different race and class combinations.
:D
I like the endgame in GW2 very much… because they give me the freedom to make my own and use the entire game world to do it.
In other words… they want you to play your way… not lead you around by the nose.
This is pretty much my end game too- I do what ever I feel like doing at the time.
When my alts are 80 I can do that with any class I choose.
Now, I log into whoever I feel like- I normally play 2-3 of my characters a day and just let the game take me where it wants.
I love the freedom of it.
But this kind of play-style is not for everyone, especially people who need a specific goal
I can’t say what is wrong with it or what can be done to properly fix it. A combination of things would probably help pinpoint a fix. From the beginning combat is so easy you only need to use your auto-attack, at level 80 there are repetitive combos that frequently get repeated on tougher enemies. There are different issues at both sides of the spectrum. What can be done to make PvE more exciting?
I can’t really agree with you at all. I have a lvl 80 Mesmer and if I stuck to auto attack I would never have made it past lvl5.
Even at lvl 80 I find that I constantly have to actually pay attention to what I am doing so that I can use my abilities to the best effect. Especially if I am playing solo.
My husband plays a Ranger and he says he doesn’t have to “play piano” with his skills the way I need to, so maybe it is your class?
I love PvE so much that I haven’t even tried PvP and WvWvW yet- I plan to, I just get sidetracked.
As for the combat and skill/ trait system- it is relatively easy to pick up sure but that does not mean that it is simple, the depth is there if you want it.

Thank You Op.
I agree, I would add that I think there is a general underestimation in the age of the player base as well as intelligence.
There was a thread on this forum about the general age of the GW2 players and it was not 18, with 13 hours a day to play.
The people crowing victory on this thread might just pause and consider for a moment that players like you might have gotten your way, but you have ruined a potentially great game and made it just like all the others just because you had to have what you have always had.
In a month you will move on and there will be nothing left.
The people this game was designed for are left out in the cold again.
Anyone really shocked by this? The champ train was incredibly degenerate game design and I’m sure Anet has been looking for a justified reason to nerf it for some time just as they nerfed the Cursed Shore farm train. Evidently, nixing armor repair costs was the best they could come up with.*
*I am actually in great favor of no more repaire costs from a WvW perspective, but it’s a pretty weak reason to nerf champ loot.
I hate to break it to you but this does not nerf the champ train- no one does the champ train for the money in the bags.
What it does do is nerf events out in the world – those events give no incentive as it is.
I like doing them for fun but if they actually end up costing you money in the end, you would have to be a masochist to do them.
I am poor as it is so there goes my playing hero and clearing maps for kicks.
It is a really stupid idea and I would like to ask the person who came up with it what he thought he was accomplishing.
@ Op- interesting post and I have wondered this myself.
I think a lot of it might have to do with fear, uncertainty and doubt.
Many people loved the game as it was and when such a change happens so suddenly and unexpectedly, the 3 horsemen run rampant spreading confusion as they go.
The initial silence from the team at Anet and then the infamous post by Chris only added to this.
To the middle-ground type of player the AMA helped to put things in perspective. At least it did for me. I’ll wait and see if/how they make good on what they said though.
I am still playing much the same as ever- there are some things that frustrate me, sure but they will hopefully be fixed before too long.
It is still an awesome game that does so many things right, so yes, I will play.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I play because I have fun playing.
I love my characters, I get a kick out of running around doing events, helping people, goofing off.I enjoy my time in game because I spend it the way I want.
If I’m feeling serious I can head to Orr and fight the good fight, or go kill some krait
if I feel social I go hit up a meta event and have a costume brawl,
if I’m feeling melancholy I head to a place like Timberline falls and just wander until I feel like seeing people again.
Feeling adventurous- go spelunking in Dregdehaunt cliffs.Yesterday I flew my kite in DR and spent the rest of the evening running around Ascalon and getting immersed in the incredible beauty and sadness of that area
I liked your response the best. You are a person I would play with randomly and not feel like I’m playing with someone who is slowly eating their shirt in anger about something. Also, props to you for going spelunking in Dregdehaunt Cliffs. I won’t go back after I completed it. I hate that area so much for personal reasons that aren’t exactly bad. Heheh.
the only time I have felt like eating my shirt is at Jumping Puzzles because I suck- so for my sanity I don’t do them all that often!
80 is a bit high as it is- 30 or 40 would have been cool
I don’t display any titles, I don’t like screen clutter.
Also there is no title for Fabulous
I actually like this aspect of this particular hair the most- it is the flower I have a problem with because I find flower bit is a bit too monochrome compared to the leaves.
In the end I didn’t use it because the flower looked odd to me.
I desperately want to use the fern hair but I need to save up for a character slot
this is ridiculous- all the language filter now does on an Eu server is make it so that people can’t even see each other talking.
This makes events so fun- not
Guess what- many, many players are also completely unaware that it even exists- so they are blissfully running around and do not respond because they cannot see you speak.
This is bordering on silent comedy
I wasn’t expecting ascended gear. But when I saw there were Legendary weapons and Legendary pvp armor, I fully expected them to add Legendary PvE armor into the mix. I guess I was the only one that was expecting that to happen.
No, I was fully expecting Legendary Armor since it only makes sense.
I did however expect Legendary Armor to have the same stats as Legendary Weapons, which had the same stats as Exotics.
This makes it optional and not a requirement and entirely a matter of vanity and bragging rights. As it should be.
ahh fond memories from last year when we all ran like girls from the dolls
I find them much easier this year but mostly because I don’t go any where near them…
All I want is the ability to complete more dailies in one sitting. Im punished for not logging on everyday when I have more time on some days than the others. The further I feel like I slip behind the less interested I feel in coming back. My game play approach is punished when weekly I spend just as much time as others, but I do it on my time.
That is a fact of life- sometimes people have more time than at other times.
You are not being punished- punished is when you get a temp ban for swearing or whatever.
You are not slipping behind- behind what?
If you have so little time to play what do you need ascended stuff for?
As others have said the point of dailies is to get people out in the world mingling and to provide warm bodies on maps so that DE’s go off.
Your suggestion would completely defeat the purpose of dailies.
I second/third the DE
it is one of the strengths and also downfalls of the world because they were never expanded upon- not referring the events that were added last , last Oct- they were overshadowed by other issues in the game.
( also this last patch did exactly this (but it was more about the map and the hearts changing) and it was amazing)
Please add more DE’s per map and if possible make them chain and provide story/lore and unique items- be it recipes, fun stuff or whatever.
but to me it seems you can use this system for so much more- order missions- skills- weapon unlocks- unique rewards etc
not sure how this fits into this thread but just wanted to put it out there
This is really really cute
I love the themed sets- but if we are using them like extra character customization it needs to be account bound.
I know of many people who did not buy any simply because they are soulbound on use.
incidentally I think Chucky is the perfect Mesmer tool
I also really regret having the “elemantal” tools on my Engi and not on my Ele.
Awsome! congrats
GW2 deserves it
For solo PvE definitely Ranger and Engineer, at least that is what I found
While I feel for Engineers since one of my mains is one.
People have been literally begging for new hair since last year.
I think it is awesome that Anet just snuck it in on us.
Thank you!
Very cute, don’t collect mini’s so much as just getting a signature mini on each of my characters
I did get a twisted windrider thingy that looks really cool
Gendarren Fields is now a megaserver. Seriously thinking about quitting. I want a place I can hang out with people only from my server. Bring LA back and don’t make it a megaserver.
Why are you crying? Isn’t a MMO the kind of game where we’re looking forward to see a massive amount of player?
No
that is an awesome post Op and I agree 100% – I just wish I could get shinies with no money- oh wait.. I don’t have any.
Seriously though, I may be broke but I have had sooo much fun.
It is the epic battles that stay with you not the loot
to me the Bazaar of the Winds and the trade agreement with the Zephyrites looked the perfect opportunity to add them- was expecting the announcement at PAX.
Guess not
yay streaks
with our own dyes
I stated this during the Ready Up livestream earlier today, but I’ll repeat it again here.
While we are releasing new story related content with the Edge of the Mists update, very little of that content actually occurs inside of the EotM map. Hopefully that alleviates some of your concerns!
I am a PvE player and I have been following the LS with great interest- if I wanted to WvW I would be doing that.
I really hope this statement means that I won’t be sitting this one out.
There is no way that I will be running around a WvW map for PvE story so that some kitten can get his jollies by killing me
lol wow, so that’s the train of thought of the pve community? Flabbergasted!
have you read this thread and others like it?
Seems to me that the general feeling among WvW players are either- get the PvE out of my WvW or thanks for the free loot bags
hehehe Fyrebrand that made me laugh and is so true.
We got rid of our friends who think like that years ago after getting tired of being pestered to do things we have no interested in.
Our remaining friends might not play games but at least they know the score.
I find it sad though that if you play games for entertainment you are automatically weird or nerdy- If you are over 40 like me and a woman you are bordering on eccentric.
My revenge is as soon as my friends start talking about hair, facials and cooking shows, I start talking about cool boss fights.
or you know- just play it like it is a game
Why should people farm low level events?
What about new players?
You would be surprised to see how many people are indeed doing the low level "average"events.
It is only the champion zerg that ignores them
To me it is enjoyable to do events- I don’t farm them I do them because I like it.
Hearts are not a cash cow, they are there for new players, or someone new to a map- it is not like they are repeatable.
If I’m having fun, I win.
very well said
I’ve been winning since the betas, lots more too enjoy.
These topics are often extremely amusing to me. Why does one need 10 characters if there are only 8 classes? Well, I guess everyone plays differently.
Not only this, but why do people even bother transmuting before 80 anyway? Rush leveling or not, you’re still changing gear often enough that it just seems a waste to me.
Not only do I indeed have 10 characters
I also have 5 under 80
and yes I transmute from the moment I come out of the tutorial.
I don’t rush level I enjoy playing all of my characters.
No matter how amusing you find it- it used to cost me 1 trans stone per item.
Now it will cost me 3/ charge
Add to that, that I now magically no longer have traits I have all ready unlocked and I am not a happy chappy at all.
I used to love leveling
This is the new gold standard for the genre, anything less (or that costs more) is simply unacceptable" Oct 2012
To abandon that and give us just another gear grinder in it’s place is unspeakably disappointing.
Basically, in october the 15th, they took the gold standard from us and in return gave us something less, which is simply unacceptable.
I think you mean Nov 15th, but yes in a nutshell.
Btw the Oct date on the quote is from the issue of the magazine- so sad how things can change in a month
All of these zones should be buffed to compensate for level 80s. Anyone below level 80 should die in one hit, otherwise, it’s too easy!
no one suggested this at all :P
No I don’t
I can’t play trinity games anymore- I feel like I am shackled
Especially when they tie race to class to role- urghh
welcome to Tyria,
I am so glad that you enjoy the amazing things this game has to offer.
I agree with you that is so nice just playing with others in the world and seeing it for the great work of art it is.
You will have amazing adventures and cool war stories to share for sure
If you are ever on Gunnar’s Hold look me up for anything (except dungeons, I am allergic to them )
Have a great game
