order missions
personal housing
new weapon skills
my suggestions:
PVE skin locker
mini pet slot on ui
Sub-classes based on the current classes
player housing with associated crafts an a way to display achievements like slayer etc
new weapons for existing classes
guild housing
a build template (not really progression in itself but if you want to promote diversity it is sort of a must)
Look, it’s okay to have criticisms about the game. I have my own. Trust me, people on my guild’s Teamspeak channel are often privy to some angry ranting about this game.
That said, a lot of the good feedback on these forums is totally obscured by dozens of angry hyperbole. Whatever you think of Megaserver, it is not destroying the game. It is not the worst thing ArenaNet has ever done. It is not so broken that the only option is to immediately remove it. They did not do it to save tons of money because the game is failing.
Chill. Out.
If this community doesn’t police its own worst offenders, it will remain a toxic pool of discontent. We’ve seen great examples of self-regulating our members within the CDI posts. Bringing that same attitude to the entire forum would be a great first step at helping developers be comfortable enough to post here regularly.
We need to build trust with them first. Trust is earned. We aren’t earning it.
sure I agree.
But this thread is not about that, it is about the fact that the feature patch was pretty problematic and the resounding silence from Anet- despite the many feedback threads
I love your idea of DE’s and to be honest I think that originally they might have had something like this in mind- especially since they said that they developed them in a way that they are easy to add to and expand.
Very unfortunately for us ( people who enjoy DE’s) when they did add DE’s to the game back in Oct it went almost completely unnoticed and now… well you know what is happening now- people are basically farmbots and complain if they are not “sufficiently rewarded” for basically everything.
I would love them to build on the game in this way because it would truly enhance the world and make the game more alive.
DE’s are one of the best features of GW2 imo.
If they had the resources and the time they could do this for the rest of us who are not obsessed with loot- I am not sure if there are enough of us or if they are aware that we feel like this.
I think its not that hard to implement a hair colors… They have a lots of collors in game. I approve OP message
Do want dyeable hair now. xD
(Can you imagine the choices, if hair color could be dyed with all of your armor dyes?)
Now I’ve gone off the deepend.
oh by the six!
that would be so amazing
Just to get this straight OP- are you complaining about not getting a precursor? Seriously?
Oh you spent 3 hours at an event and now you feel you deserve it?
What about those players who spent 100’s of Gold and months of their time and still don’t have one?
If every single person in the game had a precursor how rare do you think legendary’s will be?
I still have no chest and would rejoice if I got a box, accessory and some rares out of it. That is if I get a mail. If not, so what?
I don’t feel a bond with any of my characters, because I feel like I’m forced to play in berserker’s gear with a specific weapon for each class. Examples: My elementalist pretty much had to play D/D because it was the only viable build at the time D/D was popular. After D/D was over, Anet buffed the staff a bit, so now staff is pretty much the only viable option for Elementalist. Same with my Ranger. I wanted to play with a longbow so badly, but it got nerfed into the ground so I had to play with the shortbow, no matter how much I disliked using it.
This is what is preventing me from bonding with any of my characters. The lack of paths I can take to customize my character. I feel like I could have spent millions of hours customizing my character in WoW because there was so much armor to choose from. SO MUCH! I admit, I was very disappointed when I came to Guild Wars 2 and there wasn’t much armor at all to choose from.
But it’s not just the armor, it’s the fact that I could choose to be a tank, a healer, or a dps in WoW, but I feel like Anet has reduced this to strictly Dps or nothing. I honestly feel like I could bond a lot more with my characters if I could 1) Customize my armor A LOT more. 2) Actually choose how I can play my character. 3) Actually be able to choose a class role. I realize that Anet wanted to move away from class roles, and I hate to say this, but it’s just not working. Sure it’s more of a challenge, but it defeats the purpose of working in a group when you’re all dps and die easily.
If these things were done, I’d feel more of a bond with my character.
It is a matter of perception I guess- I do play how I would like
for example:
I have played my Mesmer as a Condition build in full carrion gear since launch.
My Ranger plays with a Longbow and I love it- well she plays LB/SB
My Engi runs pistols/FT and grenades in Rampager’s gear
I play my Ele with a scepter/focus atm
I have never payed attention to whatever build is currently popular and I play my characters exactly how I want to- they are all viable and more importantly they are all fun to play.
What saddens me most is that this game really did change the MMO landscape and what people expected from a game.
I reread an article published in a gaming magazine that summed up their review like this:
" It might sound hyperbolic but GW2 represents a sea change for the MMORPG in every way.
It takes the best ideas from the last decade of the genre, and combines them into one package.
This is the new gold standard for the genre, anything less (or that costs more) is simply unacceptable" Oct 2012
To abandon that and give us just another gear grinder in it’s place is unspeakably disappointing.
@ Vayne
I don’t think it would have caused the ruckus it did if the game launched with Ascended- it didn’t though and here is the crux because a precedent was set with that addition.
The progression players feel justified in demanding more progression and the horizontal players felt betrayed.
It is of no consequence if Anet truly intended to introduce Ascended all along or not, the effect is the same.
GW1 was a very unique and fairly niche game and as such it’s success was phenomenal.
GW2 is a very ambitious game and is designed to appeal to a larger player base.
My thoughts here are along the lines that the market has matured over the last decade, many of those original players are older with different requirements from games.
The average age of gamers also rise with every year. Hence the change in business models in general as one example.
To me it seems that the MMO genre as a whole has become stuck, largely because of the 1000kg budgie that is WOW.
It needed someone to break that stasis and GW2 did a remarkable job in renovating a very stagnant genre.
Imo, and I speak for myself only I think they should really have stuck with horizontal progression, while giving a lot of cosmetic variety.
Legendaries to me fall perfectly into this category- the problem with them is that there are too few and the effort it requires is scary.
Mystic Forge weapons mitigated this somewhat but not enough.
Honestly I think that if they came up with the idea of Living Story instead of Ascended in the first place, they would never have gone for vertical progression.
It seems to me that the concept of Living Story ( not necessarily execution) is the perfect way to give people continual content that is fresh and to focus them, while the core game is being developed and polished.
This leads to a continually improving game and is an awesome concept.
If they also use the time to develop permanent content it would be genius.
when you are walking around on a wine farm and turn to your husband and say “hey this is a really big map”
@Lishtenbird.2814
I think we need more of these difficult encounter, because what I saw is that general player skill is pretty low. You need to have hard content in order to get better at it. Sure people will continue to zerg, BUT if they continue to add this kind of mehanics, people will slowly learn that zerging is not the best option.
This game needs harder open world content, and I agree Anet may need to revisit the rewards for Crown Pavilion.
Hope this clears the missunderstandingAfter all my OP wasn’t about rewards but about breaking zerging mentality.
First off, you do not improve player skill by breaking up a zerg- if you are interested in player skill- go fight in the Gauntlet and ask for Anet to increase rewards so that more people are temped to try it.
Some players are also not interested in improving their skill, and just want to hang out and have fun, some are not able to increase their skill for various reasons
Second- it is not up to you or anyone else to “break the zerg mentality” – it was taught to players by the game.
See the Living Story up and until marionette and the world bosses, temple runs etc.
They have been adding interesting mechanics sure and that is great – but if the content is not fun/ and or frustrating and doesn’t reward the player for his time and effort- it can be as interesting as bacon plated chocolate and no one will do it.
I am in the same boat and it looks like it is not- now you can have one toy for the meta. not sure what to do with all the stuff I saved from last year.
I am very sad about this
I thought people were asking for dances to be put in the store????
so much this
I saw that too and I thought, wait what?
We just had the new hair though so I am not too hopeful but it would be awesome!
You can never have too much hair
that partiuclar style is really nice
steampunk legendary bow that folds out, has cogs etc. – shoots arrows with a clockwork sound and animation imo
That would be legendary indeed.
Still Kudzu would be amazing on my Sylvari :P
Anet said back before launch that they do not want our characters to be evil- because they work together for the good of Tyria- from that stand point it would it would make no sense for different player factions/ good- evil side.
It is not a matter of resources but a design desision
i make myself happy by ignoring Ascended exists- I don’t have the time or money or will to slave myself to the game in order to get it.
So instead I do the things i have always enjoyed- so far none of my 5 80’s seem to suffer for it.
And I don’t end up hating the game because I simply play what I enjoy.
Ironically the only people I have seen around with Ascended armor are also sporting Legendary weapons- so yeah.
They have the time and money for it I guess.
I am content to make some mystic forge skins I like and just enjoy the game
No- I meant I don’t understand what your Op is about after I read your thread title, actually I still don’t.
Please elaborate
So what are they? Those two back items are all that I can look forward to?
I know about the new skins but let’s be honest… They aren’t so pretty and nearly unobtainable by regular player.
What do you mean they are unobtainable?
I really wanted the Flower back piece and I got it in two days- it only took me this long because I had very little time to play.
I am as regular as they come!
oh I love the Human female pixie one
and the Sylvari branch and flower hair
the side pony on the Norn female is just beautiful
Anet why you make me want more characters?
Seriously, thank you- awesome job and such a cool surprise
I love all my characters but my current favorite is my Necro- she is still a baby but I love how she turned out
I will craft Eye of Rodgort for her if it kills me
Great idea, I actually don’t understand why this was not done in the first place given the huge change the addition of vertical progression has brought to the game.
Another shout for Gunnar’s Hold.
Generally you can find people anywhere and we are nice
/air guitar
Okay background as quickly as possible lol.
Played guild wars obsessively for 4 years straight, was amazing at it and loved it. Them a friend swayed me toward wow. Found it a bit more versatile and it was fun to try something new, so that eventually won me over.
When guild wars 2 came out I was SO excited, but I only played for about 2 weeks before quitting. It was nothing like the old game is known and loved, and I was already built up in wow.
So now I’d like to start guild wars 2 again, but I’m debating whether it’s even worth it. Is there even a large community anymore? I’m on gate of madness at the moment and I feel so lonely even though it’s a high population server. Is there end game content that makes it worth starting the game?
It’s hard to get the motivation to start, because I have no clue what I’m doing and I don’t know ANYONE who plays anymore.
I was frustrated because I got so good at this game and invested so much time, and then they just rip it away and throw us into a new game that we have to learn all over again….
Anyone have any advice?
gw2 is a very fun game but it enough unlike other games that the similarities might be confusing to people starting out.
The best thing is to just approach it as a totally new game and to go from there.
Explore the world, stick your nose into interesting places, follow the event chains and talk to npc’s.
It is very easy to immerse your self in the world.
It is also very easy to fall into a grinding mechanism that is not needed and sucks all the fun right out of the game.
Play with an open mind and find and do the things you enjoy and it will give you many many hours of fun.
Try different classes and race combinations and see what works for you.
As for the population I have no idea about your server but mine has pretty much people everywhere doing all sorts of things.
End game is a very strange MMO idea.
Here you can do exactly what you have been doing because of down-leveling, or you can wvw, pvp ( you can do that from the start) get achievements, work on a legendary, bis gear, play the Living Story, do dungeons , jumping puzzle, guild missions….
Basically whatever floats your boat.
so you already have it- why not try it out?
I know there are a lot of people upset now… But why? Really? What have just happend that made so upset? Is it becouse AN just announced that the newest update will contain… Purple RING!? No? So maybe becouse it is slightly more powerfull then the exotic one? Hmm… So how much more powerfull is it? Lets take a look…
My level 80 guardian has 1500 power – so it’s just low as hell (and still I can do any dungeon whithin the game). And so called scary as hell ring will give my guardian additional 5 above that what can give him exotic ring. So that gets my character 0,003 more powerfull then those without the Ascended Ring of Uther Apocalypse!
Above that there were ALWAYS items better then others! Whites are weeker then blues and blues are weeker then greens. Level 79 character is weeker then level 80 character.
New items does not change a THING! They change NOTHING! They are just another type of achievement.
And did you ever played gw1? There were locations where you need armor infusion or exact class and exact build. How is the ring any different then that?ANT did a lot work making you all feel equal when playing PvP (where ascended gear probibly will never appear). They even scale your level and gear when playing PvE! And you still think that they just want to throw that all away? Think again.
The ring is just the beginning. Eventually there will be a full Ascended set. And that’s 8,5% stronger than a full exotic set, not counting the Infusions.
Problems:
Power creep
Gear treadmill
Exotics becoming the new rares
People who play less can’t catch up
Vertical progression instead of horizontalGear is scaled by a percentage so a lvl 80 player with Ascended gear downscaled to 30 will be stronger than a lvl 80 player with Exotic gear downscaled to 30.
Hit the brakes BEFORE the car hits the wall.
This in a nutshell.
It is vertical progression when we bought the game on the premise of horizontal progression.
Exotic was supposed to be the top tier and that was supposed to be the end.
It was why this game appealed to a lot of players with lives, knowing that if you can’t play for some time, your char will still be there, your gear will still be the best and you can just pick up where you left off.
It is not that hard to understand really.
“ale ale ale
ale makes me happy
ale makes me sing
ale make me love… everything”
man, good luck with me finding jumping puzzle guides o.o
I propose that they can get the pre-legendary weapons completing a mini-dungeons. A mini-dungeon for each weapon, with a small frame which will be told in several parts. Every part of that history will be given to complete the mini-dungeon and when you complete all parts, you will get the pre-legendary weapon you want.
All this with a limit, for example, you can get a weapon of each type per account in this way only.
so you are proposing that we do a series of stories, mini dungeons that will unlockvarious parts of a precursor?
Sounds good to me honestly- at least at the end of the day you can say you earned it
It would be nice to have a short bow version of Kudzu.
Any nature themed Legendaries would be great actually.
I would love to see some grungy Legendaries too- you know the kind of weapon that has been killing people for 500 years, very plain and lethal looking. aka Lendandary- the heirloom version
No thanks please- I am very attached to my server since I have been playing there since BWE.
I play this game as much as I can which is most days but I know that over the holidays I won’t be able to play for almost a month due to family commitments.
I would hate to log on only to find that I am now on some random server and then find I cannot transfer back to my home
I don’t know how you could possibly determine who would never come back, so you cannot really say servers are carrying dead weight- what would be your cut off time?
Also the fact that server population fluctuates suggests to me that the pop might well be based on people playing at the time- otherwise it would remain static.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
Gunnar’s Hold has a great community too. My experiences so far has been exactly like the OP says. I haven’t actually seen a real jerk yet.
Did you just start another thread because no-one agreed with you in the previous one you posted in about just having fun?
Everyone wants to have fun in this game, that is the whole point of the upset.
You seem to either not understand the issues involved or are living in a bubble where the others players in an MMo game somehow doesn’t affect you at all.
The world of Tyria is a living world, it needs players, players are being sucked into the Fractals because they want to stay ahead of the gear threadmill. Hence the maps are emptier, hence DE’s cannot be done.
Not all players want to be part of that- it is not hard to understand
Taking a break makes it worse.
Yes we were having fun before this patch- don’t let me even start on how my class was broken yet again, since that is off topic.
By the way moving forward (and we can discuss this in the CDI Process Evolution topic) I would like you guys to nominate someone to build the Proposal on behalf of us all.
Due to the Red Swash on the left it seems some are getting confused with Promise vs. Proposal and I just think it would be healthy to do it this way anyway.
Chris
Mm Chris I am not sure I like the idea of a member of the CDI building the proposal.
Not only is it a lot of work- I can already see the cries and tears and pressure that person will be under.
I might be really cynical but if people cannot see the difference between a proposal and a promise now, can you imagine the backlash for the poor person who builds the proposal? Regardless of what happens in the future.
that red swatch is helpful because it is a bit like a full stop at the end of a sentence. -it gives everyone a pause and refocuses the discussion.
There has been a huge amount of discussion around sub classes. I would love to see you guys close out this particular area by either putting a sub class proposal together (Sentence detailing how it would work) or deciding as a group that it isn’t relevant at this point.
Personally I like the idea behind sub classes and see quite a few of the counter arguments based upon assumptions around balancing etc. Where possible we should try not to make decisions around feasibility of ideas through assumptions.
In short I would like to see if the CDI group thinks it is a relevant part of Horizontal Progression at this stage of GW2’s life?
Chris
While I do think it is relevant I think it is such a huge topic that it might warrant it’s own CDI.
Love the idea of sub-classes expanding the archetypes we already have to add more flavour the the 8 professions and more specialisation
I will leave the details to the people here who are good at that kind of thing
that said I do think the the Sociopolitical aspect of horizontal progression would make more of an immediate impact in game-play and that honestly remains my first choice
Sylvari is the mater race
we are the most graceful.
have the best animations
have the best character customization
the ability to grow our own armor
as a bonus we glow at night.
Arguably the best racial elite- take root is amazing
It seriously bothers me deeply that whenever I play one of my 3 humans I do not glow.
So much that I have made additional Sylvari’s to compensate for my poor human 80’s
Yes Tengu will be playable
Remember there are more people working at Anet than just the 4 LS teams
As the title says- the personal nemesis was mentioned in this
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/living-story-evolution/
Has anyone run into any such character?
I was very interested in this at the time but with Flame and Frost concluded I must have missed it since I am just as clueless as ever.
Was this character introduced in the MF or is it still to come?
Any info would be much apreciated
The game has many emotes, the only ones I ever use are /sit, /wave and /bow.
People have been begging for months on end that Anet would add more fun and fluff to the store- we are getting our wish.
Personally I think it is great, I ran into someone with the dances to day and was invited to dance, it was a nice surprise.
I was also really jelly when I realised that I couldn’t really afford it with ingame gold and then I saw the other stuff….. oh boy now I am just green, I want all of it.
well not all, since I’m not a fan of backpacks in general.
Why don’t you level up a new character?
More pertinently why should Anet waste resources to facilitate a system that is redundant?
It is over a year later and I still enjoy GW2 very much.
I think it is very easy to forget just how good we have it.
There have been some developments I don’t like but I can largely ignore it and it doesn’t affect my game-play.
Mostly GW2 is still the best game for how I want to play, I like the fact that I have options on how I get to spend my time, I like that if I don’t have time to log in- I don’t even have to think about it.
The passion of Anet for their game is very apparent to me, and I like the fact that they are willing to try different things and that everything is not just stuck in stone.
Guild wars is more about the lore then having a true war of guild even in GW1 the war was over.
They have added in guild mission that is a major guild mechanic.
Player housing is your person story you just cant buy any thing for it its more of a base off your chose.
As for guild housing its going to be hard to get once they put it out. A guild is going to have to work for it most likely though guild mission. So i hope you have an active guild because once they add them in (i am sure they will just a matter of time) its going to take time to upgrade to that point.
This is exactly why I want Player Housing and couldn’t care less about Guild Halls.
Since they added they Guild content I have pretty much stopped bothering researching anything on my 4 man guild.
As far as I am concerned it’s only purpose now is to provide me with personal storage and to stop guild spam.
I am really glad that players in big Guilds got stuff they can do together, don’t get me wrong, it is my own choice not to join a big guild.
Player Housing on the other hand is something for my own character that I can develop for my own enjoyment.
It would add a really nice personal layer to the game and provide a connection to the world that I think many players need.
Anet broke the game and they don’t care
I dont play anymore but while my other game is loading I look here
The fact that this thread dropped to page 6 and was not stickied like the other feedback posts, should tell you everything.
“Shut up or put up”
This is their stance, what are you going to do?
I play another game.
so long and thanks for all the fish
I’m not the only one who’s noticed there’s something going on between Rox and Braham, even though it’s supposed to be only friendship. Can’t help to think there are some deeper, underlining feelings towards each other.
o.o
I thought I was the only one
what you want is great
- but the this is a Themepark MMO- what you are describing is a Sandbox or in the case of AA a Sandpark. Those two things are very different- you cannot have persistent player driven content in a Themepark game- at least I have never seen it.
I have also not seen any sign that Anet has any interest in adding such content- or even sandbox lite content like fishing- housing or whatever
which is why I play AA- it feels very much more alive when the world around you is player driven
What would this have to do with GW2 being a theme park? It would be just as “off to the side” as WvW and spvp. Put it in the Mists for all I care (though I do favor something I can look at on the normal map). It doesn’t need to have any more story involvement than those other things.
then I misunderstood your OP- from what you were describing it sounded like a persistent environment in the world- you said large map or island- I was thinking a place like South Sun from that.
still it is sandbox content- wvwvw is as boring as it is because it is still a themepark.
if you attack another guild you want to burn their castle and burn their fields- if you could claim it permanently and charge the peasants taxes, so much the better.
that is SandboxI cannot see Anet doing content like that- it would be awesome, just don’t think they would do it.
In the mists or where ever.
All their content is designed to funnel you a long a path- which is fine for a themepark game because you want to keep the players togetherMaybe they could sell add-ons for the buildings like furniture, paintings, etc on the gem store. Isn’t that where all roads lead? Come up with new cool content for us so they can sell us overpriced toys to go with it.
And you were right as far as the island like southsun, except I was thinking much bigger and private to your guild. You go there and it takes you to your guild’s version of the zone. Maybe there could be a browser option to be able to check out other guild kingdoms that they’ve made public. Maybe a voting /rating feature too. Remember this doesn’t have to just be for GvG matches.
Have 5-10 areas on the map where your guild can make a claim, and build from there. Castle, houses, etc, however and wherever you like within the claimed area. But no other kingdom claims would be on the map until you queue for GvG and it takes you to an instance where the enemy guild has one of the different claim locations and a matching number of players.
Maybe with an alliance system, the zone can automatically merge yours and your ally’s map so you can be together when not in GvG.
Which is basically what Archeage online is all about.
except he is talking of instances/ private maps- North Continent is not instanced, nor is anything else apart from a couple of dungeons.
as for furniture and paintings and all that you craft it or buy it from someone else who did
No idea what AA sells in the store either since it is not up in the alpha..
but yes – he sounds like he wants to play AA
@Xerion.8014- yes I prefer GW2 combat- but then I am still trying to wrap my head around combat in AA- no dodge takes getting used to.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
If Ascended Gear was reversed, you’d have an even larger group rushing to these forums screaming just like you are about their inclusion. The masses wanted vertical progression. The masses got what they wanted. I’m sorry it’s not what you wanted.
It’s never going away. Deal with it.
I am not sure if that is true at all- just the people who have Ascended posting on this thread that they would like it gone too should be an indication.
In game I get the feeling that people are a bit baffled by why it is even there- the general feeling seems to be “I need what to craft this weapon? lol- yeah right”
I hate Dungeons and I refuse to do them.
I loved Orr, not for the farming but for the constant events, the Temple runs and the map chat.It was a really lively map.
I also have alts.
It is lonely.
Galen, SouthSun is a bad example of a new map- it is pretty I agree and it is a nice difficulty but it is also dead and boring because there is nothing going on.
If you take it and compare it to any of the other maps in the world you can see this.
It lacks the vibrancy and the little details, nevermind the events poi, vistas, hearts etc.
It doesn’t mean that we should now have hearts but they do serve a purpose in making you feel that people actually live there.
If nothing else it needs many ,many more DE’sAfter the Southsun Cove story the map changed a little but it needs to change more for it to actually feel like a place
It has a lot of potential but it is not a finished zone by a long shot.
It also has no lore- sure it has an interesting story that we saw happening before our eyes but that needs to be built on- it is just sort of in limbo now as a space for Karka queen to go on a rampage- why I am not sure since I thought we cleaned up the Canach mess
Players care very much about new areas don’t mistake implementation and the response to it for lack of interest
I am not disagreeing that compared to other zones it has a lot less to do, its understandable they only had at most 2 months to build it. I am not disagreeing that it lacks longevity of other zones of course it doesnt have the amount of dynamic events those other zones have. But it did have enough to keep people busy a couple of weeks at least but players didnt even give it that. Even after the 2nd update its not like a lot change in terms of player activity where as something that takes a lot less resources to do like the invasions or even a simple drop tweak to champions kept players busy for weeks and will probably do so for months.
So if you’re part of Arenanet have limited resources and need to develop something to keep players busy, what would you do? expand on Southsun and hope there is a dynamic event critical mass where as once there is enough to do the zone will become popular? Create a new zone that has less difficult mobs hoping that southsun isnt popular because its too challenging for the average player? Or Create some repeatable content thats profitable?
Dont get me wrong i really want then to choose 1 or 2 and really hate option 3, what I am saying is us players arent making it easy on them!
The thing is we are talking about two different types of content that appeals to different types of players.
On the one hand you have people who like exploring, taking their time and running DE’s- in short I think of those as the immersion types, play for fun and kicks
On the other hand you have the type of players who go for the shiney and the max profit/time- I think of those types as the farmers
We have seen content very much loaded toward the second bunch- and yes it will keep them busy because it is what they do- run something over and over again ( the champ farm and invasions and pavilion are examples of this type of content)
We have not really seem content so far for the first bunch.
Ideally the game needs both kinds of content.
Long term you certainly need it because it prolongs the life of the game
