GW1 is still up and running.

I never played GW back in the day but I bought a boxed set back in November when Ascended was originally introduced.
I was trying to log into my account just now but for some reason my password won’t work.
Anyway I was thinking to actually just go do that, play GW for a bit, or Minecraft :P

No
Apart from the fact that it goes against the idea of a cosmetic/ convenience gem-shop,
it will also split the players
- this is why they said they did not want to go with the same model as GW.

if they charge for dlc content in the store- what would happen if you do not have x land or y dungeon but your party does?

The impotence of casual players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

I sort of see what you are saying but I still don’t agree.

I am a very casual player- maybe an hour a day- the max amount of gold I have ever had is 30, I have also never converted gems to gold. (I didn’t seriously think people actually did that)

I have 3 level 80’s in exotics- not interested in ascended.
Those characters look exactly like I want them to and I have never felt disadvantaged in any way.
I have 4 more alts that are in various stages of leveling and are also using really nice skins ( to me) even though they are not 80 yet. A small matter of using trans-stones that I get a ton of by playing.

I have my heart set on Eye of Rodgort- a pretty expensive mystic forge skin and when I tallied up what it would cost I realized I only need the bloods- granted that will cost a kitten load.
I do however play in the open-world and gather everything I see, so it is a simple matter of selling that and waiting- and putting in some buy orders every now and again.

I have never felt that anything in the game is out of my reach- as far as skins go- given time and patience even if I only play for an hour.

It would be a bit weird seeing a mesmer/ ele run around in heavy armor but the way the OP suggests it would work fine. (In DragonAge Origins I played a mage class that could wear heavy armor-I rocked the Warden Commander set on my little elf )
Sure, the more the merrier
A combination of different sets would be even better- imagine a male caster in a mix of heavy/med and light armor mmmmm

People are grinding now, because there isn’t anything in the game that they haven’t see too many times. Even if you do your daily and some dungeons, that leaves little left to do. Of course you can revisit the same old zones in the form of living story, so that you can grind out achievements.

Speak for yourself please.
There is plenty to do.
People are grinding now because they are trying to get ascended weapons asap and because the last couple of living stories have been literally raining gold on people who farm for it.
People in MMo’s are sheep, sorry to say.
There is plenty to do in the game- you don’t have to be a hamster really.

Debate - Do we need a real answer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

I would love a real response because it seemed to me that the quote in your OP is a media spin to try and contain the situation.
It is also contradictory and I feel kind of insulted by it to be honest.
I feel that given the amount of opposition to this new mechanic- we really should have a post/answer/some response by someone who is prepared to be honest about it at least.
If they really plan on bringing in gear progression from now on they should at least bite the bullet and say it outright.
This beating about the bush is making players trust them even less.

I really really dislike the mega server idea- in fact it made me so angry that I didn’t log in for a week.

This should be optional- the people who have complained that they are alone- playing in dead servers etc can opt in.

The rest of us who are quite happy with our server communities that we worked very hard to create should have an option to opt out.

There is no way that I would ever choose to play with random people just for the sake of warm bodies

So much Ranger Hate.... Just sad....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sorry… I will always prefer any one of the other 7 professions over ranger when doing anything as a group. Usually the people defending pve ranger have yet to play the other classes up to 80, or are generally terrible at the game and are using terrible builds on all their characters.

There is nothing a ranger can do that another class cannot do better.

I have 2 Mesmers, a Ranger, a Necro and an Engi at 80.
I have done Mari on all but my Engi
I much prefer my Ranger for platform fights and my wells Necro for lane defense.
Mesmer is the most balanced- so I take her most of the time

I did Gauntlet on my Ranger.
I have done Teq on both my Ranger and Mesmer

I would like to disagree with you.

I can still do things on my Ranger that I cannot do on any of the others- just as on each of those I can do some things the others can’t do.

Each class has it’s own strengths and weaknesses- It is up to the player to use the class effectively.
There is no such thing as a bad class.

It is a game, do they HAVE to give you a reward every time? I think it is ludicrous to think that way. In RL, you don’t get rewarded every time you do something. You are starting to sound like this…

Thing is this is a game not RL

in RL I have to wash dishes every day of my life – do I get rewarded?
NO- in fact I detest washing dishes because they breed ..

lots of things in RL are like this and because it is we play games for fun.

And as video games go- it certainly doesn’t have to give me a reward every time but it should still reward my time, either by being fun, progressing a story or by improving your character or skill

Face it many of us have been here since betas- we have been there and done that several times over x 1000

fun is also subjective- being punished for something that was
a) fun for some and
b) rewarding
c) social in an MMO

is not a way to make your long term players happy

Why no /inspect ?

Morrigan.2809

wow!
I guess zerker is the only good gear according to you eh?
You do realise there are other prefixes in the game for a reason right?

FYI many people do not have bad gear and still don’t want inspect because some fools think it ok to tell them how to run their characters

Don’t worry though you will never have to group with the likes of my Engi in my exco Rampagers gear, that I assure you :P

Funny thing, I said nothing about zerkers, and didn’t even call you a fool. Is my English so bad that you completely misunderstood my point?

Sorry if I came off as attacking you but I was using your post to illustrate a point- namely that it is usually the zerker types who think all other gear is bad.

You did list a bunch of prefixes as bad- while leaving out Berserkers so that was an assumption on my part sure- however you never actually said what you consider good or bad gear only that you judge people for their gear.

As for contributing to your team? You also never said what you consider a contribution.

Just that you think you might have to carry people with bad gear who do not contribute.
Now you tell me that does not sound exactly like another full zerker saying DPS is king.

When I left I was on an American server, WvWvW battles non stop, yo ucouldn’t throw a stick without hitting a fight.

I came back….I have bee nmoved to a French server since apparently my other server got shut down (what I was told) and there is pretty much NO WvWvW going on no matter what time I attempt…

This game had so much potential, but after reading the reports about the % sales being down and % of population leaving, it really does make me sad because this dev team had my full support and then after launch it was like we got a whole new team that just didn’t listen…

Sorry if it comes across as me dissing the devs or GW2 because I am not, I am just sad at the lost potential…

I am not going to comment on your statement about sales and what not.
It does sound like your account was compromised since no servers have shut down and even if they have it would make no sense to move you from a NA to EU server.

GW2 needs to gain new features

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

I had to chime in here because I haven’t played GW2 much since April and I haven’t played at all in a month.
Hell I haven’t even updated my game- or logged in for season 2 freebee
frankly I won’t

I have been playing ArcheAge
Yes I am in alpha
(btw we are playing 1.2 right now)

This is what I have come to realize

GW2 is all beautiful smoke and mirrors
You have no agency, no relevancy, you mean nothing, you scramble for resources to buy stuff off the cash shop and your game is incredibly linear and limited by how Anet wants you to play.

This is not my experience in AA at all
I’ll tell you about my experience:

for you who say AA is a gankfest- I have died to another player once in more than a month :P

Crafting matters a lot- actually the best gear in game comes from crafting and you have to pick what you max so the good crafters are very much in demand and make a fortune

Farming land owner ship and all that is an amazing part of the game and is needed to supply resources to other parts of the game

Mounts in AA are essential because unlike GW2- it is an actual open world and the maps are not instanced- distances are vast.
gliders are really amazing

Guilds really really matter as does your reputation

you have an astonishing variety of stuff to do

Politics and alliances are a thing

private trade does not make the game blow up

Sailing and fishing is really fun and addictive

taming world bosses are a thing

the game gives you what you need- no need to scramble for stuff

I can go on…..

to those saying that AA is a bad game
all I can say is LOL

I played GW2 from beta for 2 years and I loved it- I can never come back though because it is just so….

ZAM interview with Mike O'Brien

Morrigan.2809

Don’t get me wrong- for the most part I have enjoyed the Living Story.

I do think that they need to take a step back and look at how it is not actually impacting the world all that much.

There needs to be a better balance between permanent and temporary content.
The trick to actually making the world feeling alive is the blend between the 2 types of content.
Temp content to move the story forward and permanent content to show that it actually occurred.
To me at least it does not feel like they have done this yet.

I appreciate the quality of life updates.

I do not like at all what they are doing with progression because their policy seems to contradict itself.
On the one hand you have new traits and skills ( horizontal progression) and on the other hand ascended- which is gear tier- with all the negatives tied to it.

Not sure what I think of that interview- it doesn’t really address any of my concerns and doesn’t say anything they haven’t said before a hundred times.

Why we hear nothing but Silence from ANet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

The fact that they have blatantly stated that they are monitoring and working on improving the MegaServer would very much suggest that they are indeed going to do something.
But I suppose it is better to assume they are simply lying about that.

you are being overly positive, you have to take an objective look at what they said.

  • “Although we’re excited that you have more players than ever to explore the open world of Guild Wars 2 with, our work is not yet complete. Our megaserver team will continue to monitor the performance of the technology on live and evaluate your feedback. We will continue to tweak and update the way the system works until it is providing even better megaservice!”

they didnt acknowledge any issues here.
they said they will look at feedback
they said they will monitor and tweak.
tweak means “improve (a mechanism or system) by making fine adjustments to it”

All they actually said is, megaservers are out, we will tweak it, and someone will read your feedback.
This is what they actually said. This is a far cry from an announcement of intent to change/fix anything. In fact the word tweak implies they wont be making any major adjustments to the system or issues caused by the system.

They basically put out a statement, that you can try to put whatever value you want on, but its actually saying nothing. They are not lying. They just didnt actually say anything.

also note, if they havent told us what things they would like to improve, or what things arent performing as expected, we have no idea what their improvements might be.
The goal of their improvements might be, going from 63% of time you are with your guild to 65% of the time. Yes its an improvement, but it doesnt really solve much

truth
I haven’t been here in a week and I haven’t really played since mega server was rolled out on all maps.

Luckily I have another beta key for the other game that I am trying out, this weekend.

GW2 broke my confidence completely with this- sorry but unless you can/will fix this nonsense I really have better things to do with my time.

You threw me and player who are like me under the buss

Edit: considering I would have happily spent the next 5 years buying gems, seems pretty stupid. GG

There are five newbie zones to level up in. New players can just use the Asura gates in LA to travel to any of the other four zones if the Champ train in Queensdale really bothers them that much.

Personally I don’t see a problem with it. It’s simple, fun and rewarding. It’s natural that players would immediately seek out more efficient means of attaining gold or achievements and this happens in any game. I enjoyed the interaction you get with other players too.

If level 80 content were a little more fleshed out, you wouldn’t see trains like this occurring in low level zones at all.

real new players don’t know about the asura gates or that they can just travel to other zones- why would they?
What if they roll a human?

Queensdale train is just too stacked- it counts for dailies, monthlies, karma, events and the champs are on short re-spawn and trigger able.

Go to any other map except FS and you will find it filled with champs running around unmolested.

i have “quit” the game twice now, am i’m now back for the third time for just over a month now, and every time i come back, i love the game more than ever before!

my first main was a necro. she was my first character, and this was before i knew that gw2 endgame is a cute dress up collection game, so i made her a really wretched nasty looking sylvari…. so she is now deleted (LOL)

second main was an engi, and i still farm/pvp on that character a liiiiittle bit. still quite a bit of fun since engi is such an awesome class

but my new main, my mesmer, is where all my time and effort goes and all my enjoyment comes from! favorite class yet, and i’ve played them all enough to say, favorite class in the game!

so honestly, i would say if you’re getting even a little bit tired of the game, and don’t really feel like making a new character, quit now! then you can start getting excited about how much more you’ll like teh game when you come back!

No Grind -- The Quote

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

Btw there is a huge difference between playing the game and gathering resources and farming your kitten off for those resources- the latter to me is a job and I won’t do it in a game.

Its a game to me regardless. I dont see things in a game as a job.

THIS.

If you dont like doing a piece of content then dont do it. Anet has provided many alternatives to acquiring the stats you need to play the game at the same level as anyone else.
If you cant find a piece of content you enjoy doing then simply put, dont play the game.

The way I see it is types of content, whether its farming or playing high end fractals… Its all content that you play because its either really fun OR you want to achieve a specific reward from it. The same goes for almost EVERY game I play. Yes theres some grind, but you justify it as a means to a end and the end is what is satisfying. Even GTA has this in form of collection items. Skyrim, for me was least enjoyable when I was visiting every mine I could just so I could max my crafting… However when I had it was extremely satisfying knowing the hard work i put into it. Thats what made it amazing.

Sometimes I do become bored of one type of content, especially if its farming, what I do then is EITHER;

- Go do something else in game
- Go play some other game
- Go do something IRL

What I DONT do is complain about the grind that I am actually choosing to do myself. Because at the end of the day its completely my own choice. The game doesn’t force me to do anything. As iv said, I realise that grind is there, however its perfectly justifiable if my end is the goal I personally choose to set out an achieve… Like that perfect mix of armour items that make your character look amazing… Or the many crafts I have mastered… The list could go on.

I understand ascended may seem like forced grind, however as long as no other gear tiers come within the near future, I see it as a minuscule stat difference that will come in time anyway, not to mention the variety of content I can choose from to cut back that personal grind as much possible.

You are misunderstanding me- I am not choosing to grind.
I am choosing not to
I am choosing to ignore Ascended until the game makes that impossible for me,

When that happens I will quit, and make no mistake I love this game but I will walk away

I don’t find doing the same thing over and over fun- the end does not justify the means for me.
I don’t see it as achievement I see it as wasting my time.
I do not enjoy checklists
I do not enjoy farming, there is nothing in the game I want enough to do that to myself.

I do enjoy playing all my characters and doing what I feel like doing when I log on, on whatever character I feel like playing that day:
Running DE’s, exploring, the odd jumping puzzle, the odd dungeon, a bit of WvWvW, maybe take a couple of Temples, level an alt, goof off at some world bosses or heck fly my kite.

That is how I have been playing since the second beta.
That is why I bought the game.

These days it becomes harder to do that than it was at launch, not because those things are not there anymore but because the game keeps nudging and pushing- it is even in the UI- gotto go do that, have to get that achievement ( ding!) See that star go there, oh here is a mail don’t forget.

I feel coerced.
I feel like the game treats me like an infant.

why "the hiccups" ...spoiler-ish

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

The ridicle is that Anet puts so many pointlights on so much useless details when the whole lore, animation, and plot are a total fail.
Do you think that detail is going to make the character more realistic? To give it more deepness? Really?

So are they actually paying a person who applied and studied to do this mansion?

Overarching plot is important. Details make me care. Buffy slays vampires. Lots of vampires. Cool. But I care more about the character. Things that make you “you” matter in creating a textured character. Are hiccups the be all, end all? No. But I appreciate the consistency in developing a character.

(A “Saved by the Bell” reference didn’t fly the other day, so I realized I’m old-ish. “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer” is a show from the 90’s. This concludes today’s history lesson.)

The plot is missing so many details that have been questions by numerous people across multiple threads and releases and we are wasting time with hiccups. You can skip the reveal of an Elder Dragon but you can’t skip the dialogue of these four characters (who have so little importance in the overall story it really bugs me they are constantly taking the spotlight). That’s so backwards it’s not even funny.

If the overall plot was solid and the details fleshed out, maybe then we can have trivial things like hiccups, but come on. We know more about Kasmeer’s biological functions than we do about why Scarlet’s armies are still in Lion’s Arch and following her despite failures (a dev post on the forums doesn’t count, it has to be in the game) or emphasising that they are splinter groups rather than the full factions. We see more about their intimate relationship than we see of the three orders and their members (which includes most players) and the role they are playing in the fight for Lion’s Arch (their leadership, who was tasked with certain roles etc). What’s more important for understanding this plot and Tyria as a living breathing world, the fact that Kasmeer has hiccups when she’s nervous or exploring in greater detail why Scarlet’s alliances formed and how they are viewed by the factions they came from? No stories change when you know Kasmeer has hiccups, the politics of the Flame Legion and their relevance to the other three Legions is very relevant when you wonder how the dredge alliance impacts on them and the possibility of molten technology being used by the entire Flame Legion.

Maybe Scarlet would have been better received and the big events shaping Tyria would have been more compelling for players if they had been treated as important as developing four characters who were wedged into the story and steal the show during the final encounter. These characters feel more like fan service (awe how cute, she has hiccups) than good story telling and world building.

The story became so tightly focused on these four characters that the details outside of their group (which is most of the story up until now) felt like they became secondary considerations. I know they think that the story didn’t choose one (characters) or another (story and lore) but I have to disagree, the former felt like it overshadowed everything else.

Now that they’ve done what they set out to do (introduce these four characters) I really hope the future content only uses them when it’s most relevant and can allow them to become part of the background, not front and centre.

There is plot and there is sub- plot do not confuse the two.
these characters have been there throughout various parts of the main plot- they are your friends.
Knowing personal details about them makes your character into a person not a door.

As for the main plot- we do know why Scarlet"s armies are still in LA- the escape from LA lasted only one hour in real time, the battle for LA is still going on now from their perspective.
What they will do once they find out Scarlet is dead we will only see once this story is actually finished.

We also know how the Molten Alliance impacts on the Flame Legion. We know the Flame Legion does not have access to their tech -yet. They might later, or they might be killed on sight.
Same with the other alliances.
We know they are splinter groups it is hardly a mystery- we know this because we can clearly see in game that the regular Flame Legion/ Dredge, Krait/ Nightmare court are still around.

We do know what the Orders are doing- they have the camps outside of LA and was staging the rally to muster the armies.

The LS is not focused around these characters- rather they are the inner circle around you the Player character and the main plot is the events that move you all.

A story can hardly happen in a vacuum occupied by one player character and a horde of monsters.

I don’t buy keys or RNG boxes.
I want to see what I am buying.

I have and will buy skins, costumes, makeover/ hair kits, bank slots, BLK, transstones and anything else that takes my fancy.
I thought that the Wintersday skins as well as the Rox and Braham items were really well done.

I really like it because it is so bizarre looking

My question is about the blue- I guess it stays even if you mix and match with other sets?
So basically you would end up with a piebald character?

Such a shame- a nice touch would have been to either have the skin effect on- even if you mix armors, or an on/off toggle

I liked it on FB before launch- it was one of the ways I kept up with info about the game.

Honestly the community on these forums scare me- a bunch of you behave like jilted lovers.
It is a game people, play it or don’t but the continual vitriol spewed on these pages are getting ridiculous.

Anyway I have recommended GW2 to all my friends who play games ages ago- as it is even the ones who don’t ask me how my characters are doing.

Btw- many people don’t use FB for obvious reasons.

Have you ever done crossword puzzles or any games like that and they are games? The reward is actually finishing the puzzle. I guess people need to feel that they have to be given a shiney every time they do something – Pavlov’s Dog syndrome…..

This is the ‘Entitled’ Syndrome – feeling that everything HAS to have a reward. It doesn’t – finishing something is reward on it’s own merit.

If you play chess or do cross words- every time you play a game or do a puzzle is a challenge of your skill.
that is your reward
How rewarding would that be if you do exactly the same puzzle for 2 years or play the same chess game very day?
All people like to be rewarded for their efforts
(and you are using Pavlov out of context)

I think they’re adding paper bag helms too as normal armor. :o which would be odd considering I can’t wear my Quaggan hat into battle. ;s

Paper hats as armor and these beautiful amors as town clothes?
that makes perfect sense- NOT

I was wondering about this yesterday when I stumbled onto Dulfy’s guide for this upcoming patch.

Dulfy is a undoubted resource for this game and I think there are very few people who have not used Dulfy at some point or another. No offense to Dulfy at all, because she does a lot of work for the community.

I think there is no harm in a guide for people who want to do things quickly but I do have to question the entire guide being up before the actual content. (she did have a link with least spoilers though)

May be put it up the day the actual patch goes live?

I don’t have a problem with new content as such, I just wish they would develop and build on the current content more.

I appreciate the bug fixes in the last patch much more than constant new stuff.

There is a whole world with huge potential that could be built on and added to, never mind content that players have been asking for since the game launched, before they just randomly add new stuff.
But that is just my opinion.

Why I've changed my mind on Ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

You don’t need Ascended armor. The stat increase over Exotics is minor. So if you’ve given up on getting these, you can still play the game as normal.

People like you are the reason wurm can’t be beaten.

Yes the stats do matter. They offer a 5-15% damage increase. That is a HUGE amount of damage when everything in this game is a dps race.

If you don’t think that much damage matters then please don’t show up to the wurm event or any timed event that is introduced from this point forward.

And this right here has been my problem with Ascended Gear since it launched.

If Anet had to bring out content balanced around Ascended we will have gear gated content, We don’t have that yet.
Your attitude is appalling and it is precisely why I will never get Ascended in any form- guess what?
I can still do content in my Exotics because skill does not equal big numbers
