I just want to add something here since you asked for feedback OP
You spent 5 years developing an incredible world.
Since then you have done some things that might not have been so good for that world
I’ll just leave this here:
saw it in another part of the forum and funny as it is you need to think about this for a bit
No.
This was supposed to be hard content for people who like such things, that is why the arena achievements are separate form the jubilee achievements.
It is ok not to be able to do everything, I am stuck at Salazan atm but I do not think that Anet should nerf the gauntlet.
Fix the camera and let the npc’s res sure but keep the difficulty as it is, it is nice to see such content in the game
I agree town clothes should be armour
Wife aggro always takes priority
.
Don’t forget husband aggro :P
Seriously, I agree with Op- this is why I do not commit to dungeons with strangers because my husband and my daughter takes priority and they have a very developed "instance sense "
Open world exploring it is for me.
Mesmer has been nerfed since the game launched, again and again.
Even back in the day when everyone thought Mesmer was a weak class and couldn’t cross the road without dying :P
As a Main mesmer who plays PvE -I say separate PvE and pvP already!
Those mechanics you guys moan about are what keeps me alive- do you have any idea how slowly a Mesmer kills?
I am sick of PvP people shouting nerf Mesmer and paying the price.
I think it is very much worth the development time.
It gives players something extra to do- customize their house, can act as a gold sink, gem income, new crafting professions
It invests the players more in the world because it is an anchor on a personal level that ads to your character, which is somewhat lacking atm.
For RP the befits are obvious.
I really don’t think you have to be afraid that everyone will suddenly just vanish into their houses, this isn’t FoTM and you don’t get loot in your house.
What if I want to play with the people from my homeserver only, though? There are a lot of people I know, who aren’t on my friendslist, who aren’t in my guild, yet have the same interests as me. Will I just have to be lucky to be put in the same world as them? Will I have to deal with people from other servers I quite literally couldn’t care less about?
I’m not trying to be the partypooper here, and I’ll wait for more updates and until I’ve seen it in action, but this could very well mean the end of roleplaying in Guild Wars 2, and thus, the end for a lot of players.I do hope servers will remain to work as they do now; people from your server getting absolute priority to be in the same world, and I also hope cities, at least, will stay out of this. We don’t need trolls in our RP.
Edit: And I know that roleplayers make up a tiny portion of the playerbase, hence my asking instead of me stating that we’re being beeped over. Again, waiting until we get more info. It’s just the the first impression scares me.
This -
I love my home server, I already run into the same people all over the world- that is why they are on my friends list in the first place.
I have come to love some players even though they are not on my list because I see them so often.
All this does is create one big mishmash, it destroys server identity completely. Make no mistake servers do have different identities.
I have no desire for some mega server to decide where to put me- just for the sake of having more random people on whichever map I happen to be on.
I’d rather be alone honestly
I picked Gunnar’s Hold in beta- it is my home- not only do I not have a personal house, now I will in reality to longer have my beloved homeserver
PvE
1. vertical progression- ascended gear vs horizontal progression- skills and traits
2 Living Story and how it can be used to tie into and drive the main plotline
3 Player housing/guild housing
4 a functional wardrobe system
speak for yourself
as for your open your eyes comment open your eyes and realise that many people say nononononono to duels
I don’t mind most recent played but I do mind that I can’t see them all
Lol I always assume when I see a white haired human female that she is played by a teen-aged male.
Sorry!
I don’t think Hard mode is really a great progression feature. I think new content could be more fun than that.
I want to see my character’s progression. things that show he’s been around & done certain things. Scars on his body, maybe part of his body got cursed or marked, new tattoos, a home with unique layout & items in it, special armor fx, special custom attack animations, an idle animation that represents his personality, medals/capes/decorations, relationships with npcs that show in the game.Basically:
My progression should be visible in game, not in the UI. Making numbers go up is the height for boredom. Having my character covered in medals, in a cool pose, with battle damage, scars, his hand branded by an elder dragon wielding a hammer with customized look & unique fx that represent my character? That’s fun.
this!!
I have no interest in hard mode simply for the sake of heard mode- as I am sure many of you can see Southsun doesn’t get played all that much, neither does teq on most servers and there were many more people zerging the pavilion than fighting the gauntlet.
We need fun content to show that our characters are more than the day they started- not just bigger mumbers
No I will not play more, in fact I will play less.
It makes me sad and I love this game but if they add a gear treadmill, I know I will lose interest and eventually quit.
I was under the impression that I would be playing this game for years and up until this announcement I was really enjoying myself.
oK off to cry now
I see what you did there.
This is the daily mount thread, isn’t it?
I love how the Op went from people not liking SAB to- ta-da mounts!
OP may I suggest you play the game a bit more and keep an open mind?
here is my version :p
and a more traditional one of my Guardian
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I personally hope those races that you’ve mentioned in your first post never become playable. It’s bad enough we have those filthy animals running amok along with those long eared vermin. They’re too weak, pathetic and unintelligent. They’re guaranteed to dwindle into extinction. There is only one master race and it is Humanity.
personally wonders if this post makes you racist or the king of sarcasm
a seperatist :p
Megaserver
Lack of freedom in game to do what you want and be rewarded for it
Megaserver
I have to say, these threads are so funny to read.
No for all of you that have a disagreement on the ascended stuff. How many of you own an ascended item? We knew back in November they were going to keep adding ascended to the game, if you was against it, then you shouldn’t have gotten any in the time frame because it is against your playing style, correct?
.
I have no Ascended items- not one
40, but with a 4 year old. Can’t count the number of times I’ve been mid fight and had to go and sort out tears after bedtime. Makes dungeons impossible! ‘Would you mind just waiting 5 minutes whilst I go and put my kid back to sleep’ does not make for friendly chat sigh.
43, I have a 7 year old and I feel your pain- we are raising her as a gamer so in a couple of years we are golden
Because there will NEVER be enough content for the content locusts in ANY MMO.
Guild Wars didn’t slow people down enough with dungeon DR, so people got all the tokens they ever needed. By creating a more or less open ended experience, like the fractals, Anet may well have saved the game, in spite of the number of people who left over it, or the number of people who are annoyed now. It was a stop gap measure and it seems to have done the trick.
Yes that was the purpose of Fractals and it served it’s purpose and would have done so without the addition of Ascended gear.
People didn’t leave back in Nov because Anet introduced a new dungeon- they left because Anet introduced another gear Tier.
Ascended gear caused more problems than it ever solved
you are probably not going to like me much :P
I have never liked or trusted Caithe and most of my characters are Sylvari.
In the personal story where you give your word to let one of the Court live if they give you info- she just turns right around and kills it, breaking my word without a by your leave- I wanted to give her one upside the head.
She has always struck me as rather mean and unfeeling and untrustworthy.
It makes me very uncomfortable that she is a firstborn that most Sylvari look up to
Add the recent Living Story into the mix and- yes- I don’t trust her at all.
I wouldn’t be surprised ar all if she is a lot darker than we are led to believe.
So what I most would like to say to her – is stay the heck away form me and mine, or else
I am one of it seems few people who like running around doing events because I find them fun.I started during the headstart a year and a half ago and frankly if you where not with the mob of people leveling you always ran into events that had not been completed. What really do you expect? It is not possible to do all the events, it is not meant for all the events to be done all the time which is why there is a difference in completed and incomplete graphics and npc chat.
I see people everywhere really- not mobs or zergs but enough people to be surprising.
Some events also are on a fairly short repeat cycle, so if I did it 5 minutes ago I am not going to do it again, unless some poor soul is going at it alone.
I sometimes get the itch to play hero and pick and out of the way map and clear it from one end to the other- opening wp’s, killing roaming champs, saving villages etc. Usually there are others with exactly this in mind.
I honestly prefer the way it is now to the absolute crush we had at head start
As I see it,this does benefit larger guilds with banked influence.
I have a small guild and for our size we earn influence pretty fast but because there is a limit to what we can do we have to be very careful on how we spend it.
We spend it on upgrades that are actually useful to us- hint-not Art of War lvl 5.
Initially my concern was that we are to small to complete missions but now I can’t see us even kicking off an event- it seems to me that smaller guilds are being strongly encouraged to merge with bigger Guilds and misses the point of why smaller guilds are so popular with players.
It is fine to ad content that can be enjoyed by large co-ordintated groups and I will even say that it is needed and will make many players happy.
What I would like to see is similar content for small guilds.
Not all small Guilds want to grow, that does not mean we don’t like fun stuff to do together.
If Anet wants to build the community they should supply the tools to do so- to the whole community.
Op I read your whole post- I am sorry to say but you robbed yourself of a very large chunk of your life for nothing.
Anet does not like you to farm, they like you to play the game and as someone has said have sensible resource and material management.
The fact that you chose to ignore this and basically beat your head against a wall for several months is basically on you.
You could have been playing the game, had a life, and legendary if you paid attention to the actual mechanics of the game.
Gw2 endgame is not lacking- I have been 80 since sept and I am not bored in the slightest and love playing my 80’s
Anet stated from the beginning that the whole game is endgame- this is true, literally.
I find it amazing that people from more traditional MMO’s keep banging their head against the wall unable to accept this.
You do realize the whole idea of gear progression is a mechanism to get you paying your sub every month right?
The fact that so many gear progression based MMO’s have gone free to play, tells me 2 things:
1 sub model is dead
2 gear grinders leave as soon as the next shiny gear grinder come out.
The progression from bigger numbers, just so you can get bigger numbers is a illusion and it created a player base that cannot function without it- this is very sad and imo would have killed the MMO genre sooner rather than later.
GW2 tries to create a new paradigm for MMO’s and I really appreciate it.
Flame all you want but there are more people like me than you think
thank you it was a nice post- unfortunately I agree.
Not only does GW2 seriously lack content but the MS makes the introduction of any content a complete moot point.
Until issues are addressed and Anet gets their act together new content is just a distraction imo
random dragons? that would be awesome!
- housing
- end of culling in PvE
*Equal reward structures and achievement structures for all game modes. (PvE, PvP,WvW)
*More involved dynamic events with a branching system where you have to choose your options- with fails possible
*A build template that allows you to easily swap builds as well as equipment.
*A system like a skin npc or armor rack in your house where you can keep your various skins.
*More missions based on your Order choice
Just off the top of my head, will add more as I think of them
Sorry format went wonky on me
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I have a problem with the clipping on Sylvari cultural armour.
The skirts for light armour clipp through swords and the chest piece for t1 medium clips through the bow- It is very depressing, since Sylvari armour choices are so few to begin with
I loved dye drops- it makes me very very happy and I am so sad to see them go.
There was a time when I spent all my laurels on dyes too.
I will never buy dyes from the gems shop- so I guess I will have to be happy with what I have collected by now
You realize that the name is from the lore right?
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lore
It has nothing to do with guild wars in the game
Loki has some very good points.
I will just add- do you plan on playing with your son?
We got the game for our 6 year old daughter because she kept sitting on our laps when we play- she is a bit young but she enjoys just running around and looking at the world and harvesting stuff and unlocking waypoints.
A ten year old is of course much more capable-
really it is up to you
I was really excited about new content before the 15th of April patch.
Unfortunately I could now, not care less.
No matter how amazing season 2 is- the big mess that is the Megaserver makes it a moot point.
Can you imagine trying to play LS content with the Megaserver?
I sure can
shudders
I am holding out for personal housing personally.
The way Guild Content has been handled so far makes me suspect that if Guild Halls ever came out it will once again exclude small guilds, so I couldn’t care less about it myself
Since I realise that many many people are eagerly awaiting GH though- it would be a good addition to the game, so I will add my vote to the count.
I just really hope that we will see player housing at the same time since it definitely serves a purpose.
Tengu is most likely
I won’t be playing a Tengu myself- but I am dying to get behind their wall
My personal choice is Largos- I am extremely curious about their culture.
I would love an underwater city.
I don’t think their fins/wings would be any more of a problem than the winged backpieces we already have and soooo many people are wearing those.
As for it being weird having Largos running around on land- same can be said for non aquatic races swimming around under water.
We do see them on land now
I never got the impression that they were purely aquatic anyway, more amphibian – despite them being from the deep ocean
oh just give me Largos :p
Don’t have a third choice.
Because we Sylvari are clearly the master race- the rest of Tyria has just not realized it yet
Mwha ha ha ha ha!
RP elements and support have only ever enhanced the atmosphere in a game because they make the world really come alive.
For all the players not just those who RP
+1 to this thread
It is boring, pointless, never-ending and soul destroying and lazy from a content point of view.
But that is just my opinion
Yes to a degree- I have never cared about achievements.
People who did them before did so because they cared -not because of shinies.
The reward system is not a bad thing
Shinies are not a bad thing but people being what they are, now ignore content for the sake of the shinies.
That is a bad thing and should not be encouraged in my opinion
I was really startled last night when I completed some stuff only to hear a loud jingly sound to signal an achievement- this I really don’t like.
It reminds me of Pavlov to be honest and i wish I can turn it off.
The banner on your screen can be toggled back to what it was before, I did so immediately.
The thing is the game is the same as it always was, it is not centered around achievements – people are now centered around achievements
People don’t ignore whispers- at least I never found it so- people ignore guild spam from people they don’t know from a bar of soap.
I have a personal Guild mainly to avoid this and bank space naturally
there is also Largos mini
Largos confirmed!!!
:P
I don’t know the true numbers, but I strongly suspect this game needs a whole lot of players to keep the wheels turning.
It needs a lot of people spending money in the Cash Shop. The biggest aspect of that shop is buying gems for real money then converting to in-game gold.
Does not need a large percentage of the playerbase spending real money in the shop? This has been proven with various models (you can google to get the study findings). These whales, as they are referred to in casinos, are driving the real world GW2 economy post-box sales.
The question is what motivates these individuals to spend and more importantly, to buy gold from Arenanet.
If it using real money to buy mats for the “hard to get” gear or even being the “hard to get” gear directly, then it explains the introduction of Ascended and the huge requirements for both Ascended/Legendary weapons.
I cannot blame Arenanet for making changes that support their financial model. I just wonder if this focus makes the game more fun.
If you let this sort of stuff rule you, it’ll be less fun. If you just do stuff casually as it happens and don’t rush out and get everything right away…then it’s probably more fun.
Fun has to be at least partially a player’s responsibility.
Anet did state somewhere right in the beginning that the question they ask themselves when they develop content is always – Is it fun.
To me is honestly seems that yes it was more fun.
I love making my own goals and finding my own fun and the game supported this to a large extent in the beginning.
Fast forward to today and as I player I am feeling like I have to work against the game now to have fun.
I feel like I am at cross purposes to the game
I have to not gear myself in ascended, I have to not even look at the achievement checklist for dailies, monthlies, living story blah blah. I have to not get on the choo choo farm train and be poor instead
Instead of a virtual world to enjoy and embrace, I am given a checklist.
Being reasonable is all good and fine but the fact is this was the one game, the one MMO for people who do not like MMO’s
It seems to be trying it’s level best to become just another generic MMO- and you know the communities in those MMo’s?
yes – they are toxic and bored and full of trolls- I was shocked at the chat on my once wonderful server today- I thought I was playing DOTA
In my opinion GW2 was something very special- a lot of that still remains but it seems like Anet decided to go for the press and the promises instead of the game they are so passionate about.
mmm I really see your point.
I am a casual player but the average player skill in this game boggles my mind.
People do not swap weapons, use consumables, use utilities properly- heck people don’t even use their weapon skills properly.
I have lost count on how many times I have seen Mesmers facehugging a boss twanging away on GS 1- or casting feedback on the one melee mob in a battle.
And make no mistake it is not new players- because in my experience at least genuinely new people ask questions and are eager to learn.
I hear Anet developed more comprehensive tutorials for the China release- I have good hope we will see those implemented.
I still don’t think that it is really an Anet problem though- the game is easy to pick up- you don’t have to master it to play most content – the skrit hits the fan when those same people show up at a fight that at least requires you to read map chat- never mind actually pay attention
So let me tell you about my experience yesterday:
<snip>
Now, take your experience in trying to join your friend at Maw and consider 120+ players all trying to do the same thing.
This is what the multi-server guild alliances go through, at least twice per day, trying to do Tequatl and 3-Headed Wurm.
I know- and the Guild Alliances have my deepest sympathies because it kills the game for them
The China release is coming up in what…there weeks. They’re fixing some of the problems slowly but it’s been eight days since the released. 8 days.
During that time they need time for people to get used to the idea. There are times in the past where they introduced something, there was a lot of complaining and it all died down as people figured out how to get used to it.
There was a massive amount of complaining about the meta event trains on day one and two and now, most people figured out how to get to them and follow the scheduled and the number of complaints have dropped off sharply. There are still some, but nothing like what it was. It’s going to die out because most people don’t care. There are plenty of people doing the zone wide events now.
Anet needs to let the dust settle before commenting. In the mean time, there’s a major launch going on that IS taking up much of their time. There are only so many hours in a day.
And what do you really expect them to say? The megaserver is very important to them for a variety of reasons. It means less servers running over all which saves money. It solves the problem of low pop servers and even high pop servers in certain zones at certain times of day. It solves the problem to some degree of the complaints that surrounded the Marionette fight when people complained the couldn’t even get on their server. It works far better with the living world stuff they’ve been coming out with than the old system did.
It needs tweeking and I’m sure it will be tweeked. Until then, i"m not sure what people want them to say.
Because from my point of view there’s nothing they can say that won’t make it worse.
If they say get used to it, we’re not changing it…that will make it worse. And they’re not going to change it.
The only thing we can hope for is that the cities will be returned to server, insrtead of megaserver. That might happen. Or the RPers can at least be given their own chat channel.
And yet they were pretty happy about posting blog post after blog post before the patch went live.
The thing is- there are some real problems with this patch, it is not going to blow over because it is not a case of ooh I don’t like this.
The fact that they made all the feedback threads and never replied to any of them is very worrying because a lot of is address legitimate concerns.
They cannot just leave it.
The lighting speed with which they rolled out Megaserver to all maps- when they were supposed to monitor the impact- leaves me speechless- the initial roll out already highlighted some problems- common sense to me would be to address those before rolling out the rest.
China- it is not a secret that they are launching in China, they have known it for months- it is their job to allocate resources to the China launch and the rest of their game.
If it was going to be problem they should have thought about it beforehand- project management is a thing you know
This is a good fix- something needed to be done and fast.
This will stop the insane farming.
Kudo’s
I type it- I also use it IRL and on other forums- have gotten some funny looks I must admit
Yay for Megaservers!
to fix recruiting, just type your server in the message
to fix WvW coordination use a forum
Let me guess- you play on a US server right?
I say kitten irl now- it confuses the heck out of people
