Will Guild Missions need a levelled Guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

To counter your point, the small guild I am a member of has been in existence since pre-release and consists of a close-knit group of friends. We’re not interested in growing large, because that’s rather counter to the point of it being a guild of friends. Likewise, it seems counter-intuitive for us to all go join a bigger guild in order to play guild events together. What would be nice is for the guild events to tier in a way that doesn’t exclude us altogether.

Post of the day. “This” is exactly what I have. I have a very very small guild with friends that I have been gaming with for years. It is my guild and I don’t really want to be forced to join a large guild to participate in guild events.

This should be open to every guild in game, not gated behind Art of War 5. As the guild master for my guild, I purchased the first slot of the guild bank. I also bought the first tier of Politics so we could drop the occasional banner. In preparation for the upcoming Guild Missions I started to bank influence. To date I have 3.7k. Not alot I know, but with only a few members in my guild its the best that I can do.

Now I have to bank 36k influence to get AoW5 and then more to undertake the first bounty mission. Am sad to say that this will NEVER happen for my little guild.

this
What gets me is that Colin said the bounty missions are the very first ones that anybody can do or some such- will find the quote now. edit: no need it is just up- thread.

I have 4226 Influence banked and we have researched:
Pol 1 ,
Economy 2,
Architecture 3
That represents a lot of work for a guild with 4 members.
We did not bother with AoW because we are a PvE guild and gain no benefit from that tech tree whatsoever.

I am not expecting to do 20 man or 100 man content with my guild but I would have liked to at least see some of the content that release with this patch.
As it stands now all we can do is join in on some other Guild’s Mission.

Content for smaller guilds are also needed.
Either that or they should have put a minimum Guild size from the start, not everyone wants to be in a huge Guild with a bunch of random strangers.

I play as a party of one in a guild of 1 and Megaserver is not great for me.

I haven’t actually seen any of my friends or people from my server, the maps are completely over run by random people.
there are trolls everywhere and the Tower of Babel is not funny.

I have never felt this alone in the game, which is ironic because people are like ants- everywhere.

Guild Wars 2 and the Gear Escalator

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

I don’t really care if it a treadmill an escalator or a black hole- it is pointless, unfun and a pain in the behind.
I also don’t care if they claim they wanted it in by launch- the point is, it was not.
It was also never even mentioned or hinted at until they sprung it on us.

I look at this game that I love and some days I get really really worried.

We have Living Story (that i quite like actually) turning into a farm fest where people fail events on purpose.
We have another gear tier that is ruinously expensive as well as time gated.
We have people ignoring content to clump up and farm champs, while people who want to play the game has to struggle to do the content.

I have to wonder what are they thinking they are doing to the game.
They stated a big reveal at PAX- it came and went and nothing.

I would like to see the mini-games that was supposed to be in the game at launch, new skills and traits (yes I know they are coming) Story Development that actually impacts your character, new zones, new races, more DE’s in zones we have already, improvements to the core game, do something about Engi hobo sacks already, Guild management tolls, Player Housing, etc etc.

Those are things that matter to me- I got a gear whatever

Player Base: male and female ratio?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

What I find interesting is that people assume you are male even when you are a woman playing a female character.
No one will ever know the real statistics, many women myself included do not advertise our gender online.

To posters who say that cute elements, sims 3, and Facebook games appeal more to women- that is kind of insulting and a very archaic viewpoint imo.

I know women who excel at very competitive “male” oriented genres.
I think one of the main reasons why women don’t advertise in video games is exactly for this reason- they just don’t get taken seriously.
That goes for TS too, women I know avoid voice chat unless they personally know the people at the other end.

I also couldn’t care less if characters are running around in skimpy armour- I have never been offended by stuff like that.
One of my characters gets hit on quite a bit, and usually by people who then call me bro.
That is a bit weird but I don’t find it offensive

Pace of new content - TOO FAST

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

I think the main problem is they keep taking away content, why not keep the content they added, I hate this, give content then take it away bs, is there anything ever permanent added to the game?

I’m with this guy. The problem is content is taken away. It feels like I have to force myself to do it the second content appear cause I will not get a chance to do it when I feel like it. Instead of being able to say “hey, I feel like pvping all day today”, I am forced to run the dungeon/event/quest of the week first. Sometimes I finish it early on, then i ignore it for the rest of the 2 weeks due to being annoyed for feeling like I had to do it when I felt like WvW or boss hunting. I miss back when this game first began and it felt like I had time to explore and “stop to smell the roses”. I play things in spurts and then switch back to another thing. For instance, I would like to do southsun run activity when its up, but I always feel too “busy” to spend my game time doing what I feel like doing. I don’t see why content (like SAB for example) must be brought out, hyped to death, and then sealed tightly away in a box for months. Missed getting the SAB skins? Too bad! They are gone (I got them all last time, this is just an example). You must rush, rush, rush. How dare you get to choose how you want to spend your time.
On one hand, I guess if stuff stayed around, they might have to deal with complaints with people saying they are now bored of said content, but then, why are current dungeons not taken out? Why can’t players decide what content they want to spend their time on and get bored of doing (if they get bored of it at all)?

This, so much this.
I hate feeling rushed- I have enjoyed the Living Story mostly but it goes by in such a flurry that it just leaves me with a feeling of wait? what? and then there is a new list….

You /inspect a player and he gets a pop-up where he can accept or decline the request.
Should also come with an auto-decline feature for those who never want to be inspected.

The problem is that if you decline, you would still then get excluded based on the fact that you decline.

Seriously though the two Quaggans you mention are male and female- people have been following their romance since Tower of Nightmares.

Personally I have always thought of Faolin and Caithe as more in the background, like Logan and Jenna.
they are not having a relationship so much as being exes with creepy issues.
Their sexuality is also irrelevant with them being Sylvari

So that leaves Marjory and Kasmeer as the only prominent same sex relationship.

I really cannot read social agenda/ political correctness/ fan service or whatever into this.

Rather I see it as character development- it is just a different aspect of their personalities.
As for the “Lesbian scenes”- I assure you I would have had exactly the same reaction if my husband had almost died.
Seemed pretty reasonable to me actually

Why there should be a dps meter

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

The point is those people and classes that are seen as undesirable can still do their job without a DPS meter. The only groups they are excluded from is the Zerker-Warrior-ping-gear groups.
No one else gives a kitten and quite happily do their stuff.
DPS meter is not necessary and will not really help anyone because no matter how good your intentions are I bet you 2 hours down the line that those same Zerker-Warrior- ping-groups will be abusing it.
Again this game is not supposed to be DPS or get out.

edit: “Yeah. Play like you want. But truth is: berserker, maximum dps or suck and are useless.
Therefore +2 for a dps-meter, even if you can choose if it’s visible for other players or not.

I have noticed a new attitude of trolling in the game that has never been there before. People give wrong waypoints in map—chat so that others can’t get to events and even decline to call out events all together.
I definitely blame the new camping to get loot for this.

I have been a fan of the idea of random dragons from the start and I have always loved the world events and tried to do them as much as possible- since the patch though all the magic is gone.
Something needs to be done- I don’t think limiting guesting or chest rewards is the answer.
Instead increase rewards across the game for completing event chains and give a min drop per champ/vet.
I really don’t like the atmosphere these days on my previously awesome server

I played during betas as well and when the game launched I had a bit of what you describe because I had played the low level content so much in the betas.

I got over it by realising that there is nothing chasing me and I am not going to be kicked from the game when the beta ends- like I was used to. So I slowed down and just immersed myself in the world. BTW my main is a Mesmer I have been playing since launch.
I can’t help you if you consider leveling a grind though- to me that is just playing the game.
You have it- so try it out at a leisurely pace and just enjoy yourself- if you are too goal driven to do that I am not sure if you will ever really enjoy the game and that is the truth.

The combat is simple on the surface but there is more to it, so you can not really say that you are going to spam the same skills over and over- in fact skill spamming will result in your death, especially if you play a Mesmer.
Combat is situational so you have to be aware of your surroundings and play accordingly.

Hearts are a very small part of the game and their main purpose is to get you used to how Dynamic Events trigger and work.

The “endgame” is hotly debated but the truth is that for some type of players there will never be “endgame”
They stated during development that the whole game is endgame and the down-leveling mechanic supports this very well.
If you expect some magical game to appear only once you hit 80, you will be disappointed.

That said if you like making your own goals you will never run out of things to do.
I have been 80 since Sept and I have never been bored.
It all depends on what you like to do in games and whether or not GW2 offers that for you.
Good luck

I dunno- I have been playing since betas and I consider myself pretty dedicated- I like the LS.
It keeps things fresh and interesting- just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean the game is dying- I am not sure you have been in game lately because it is packed.

These forums are very anti LS but that is not what I am seeing in game at all.
What I am seeing is people being invested in what is going on.
I also don’t understand the obsession with a boxed expansion- you will get all that, just via the LS.

It really seems to me the same people who say the LS sucks are the people who claim they don’t do it- so how can you possibly have an opinion on content you have not played?
kind of like people saying the personal story doesn’t make sense because I skipped all the dialog

And don’t use the zerg zerg is boring argument please, because if you have been around, you would have known that most of the last updates and fights have been anti zerg zerg.
In fact the zerg that complains about zerging are failing the events for everyone else who is with the program.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

OP: if you have been playing since the betas surely you should know that GW2 was never supposed to have gear progression as you describe it?
The addition of ascended gear in Nov and the absolute kitten storm it caused should tell you this.

The idea that you need better and better gear to progress or show how good you are is an idea that many many of the GW2 player base came to this game to get away from, that will not change.

Anet may choose to add more gear tiers in the future but I predict that the juice will not be worth the squeeze for them to do that because it will alienate the players that remained after the Nov fiasco.

You say you can’t see what to do at max level without gear progression?
That is another mindset carried over from years of playing traditional MMO’s it has no place in GW2.

Unless you can come to terms with the game for what it is, you will never enjoy it- in which case you and your guild will be far better off finding a game that does meet your needs.
GW2 Meets the needs of many players just as it is, that is why we play

Chaos in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

I think it is because of one or more of Anet decisions:
1-Removal of holy trinity with nothing replacing it.
this has caused NO Challenge NO Team Play.
every time I do the claw of jormag and see players dying not because they are bad players but it is the game design and notice that I have died in GW2 more than in all my years playing mmos.
Anet created a Zerg game where you don’t need others and it is total chaos.
GW@ should be called Zerg wars.
2-Skills being tied to weapons.
this is the worst decision they made has led to boring game play .
I think the above two decisions are the worst Anet came with.

Funny but the things you mention are some of the things I like most about the game.

1. Removal of the trinity means that I am not tied to some boring role and can adapt my playstyle to the situation.
To me that seems a lot less lazy than standing in the fire waiting for the cleric to heal you.
I like seeing the fight from the perspective of: how can I support this guy, how can I use that guy’s combo field to do even more damage, how can I control the enemy to give that guy at his back a better chance.
To me that seems much more engaging and co-operative.

The fact that I do not ’Need" others but can play with others on my own terms is really great for me too.
I hate being forced by game mechanics.
The design choices in GW2 has led me to be much more social than I have ever been in any MMO, simply because it is my choice.

2. Skills being tied to weapons is also something I enjoy simply because you can really learn what those skills do in each situation and you can change all of that by hitting ~
it makes for very fluid and adaptive game play imo.

So you see OP, people differ.

How Can ANet Improve Average Player Skills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

mmm I really see your point.

I am a casual player but the average player skill in this game boggles my mind.
People do not swap weapons, use consumables, use utilities properly- heck people don’t even use their weapon skills properly.

I have lost count on how many times I have seen Mesmers facehugging a boss twanging away on GS 1- or casting feedback on the one melee mob in a battle.

And make no mistake it is not new players- because in my experience at least genuinely new people ask questions and are eager to learn.

I hear Anet developed more comprehensive tutorials for the China release- I have good hope we will see those implemented.

I still don’t think that it is really an Anet problem though- the game is easy to pick up- you don’t have to master it to play most content – the skrit hits the fan when those same people show up at a fight that at least requires you to read map chat- never mind actually pay attention

The problem is really the term casual here and specifically the go to defense “but I am a casual player” in the GW2 community. MMORPG do not mainly require special hand coordination skills or insane reaction times. The thing they really require is the ability to perceive a given challenge/situation, apply your mind to it and find a solution. This is basic human nature (or at least one would think).

Casual players, the real ones, not the ones who equate “casual” with “very bad” as an act of self defense, may not have ascended gear, maybe not even full exotics, maybe they don´t have a special food buff in their inventory, but they still have their working mind. And even if one was really not able to put his mind to work on a given challenge, it takes like 2 minutes of google searching to find a page that explains a build, class, skill, strategy, whatever.

But that is the thing- I call myself casual because I do not research builds for hours, have Ascended gear or do Dungeons much at all- to me that is a casual player.

I do however have a mind- and I use it to the best of my ability.
I do my best and I learn from my mistakes.
I am by no means a good player

What I see though is players not even bothering on reading the description on their skill bar- that is lazy.
There is no other word for it.

In big fights you at least have to have some situational awareness, read map chat and pay attention to what is happening around you.

Thing is people don’t and they don’t care and I don’t think Anet can really force them because they will say- play how I want or leave

Handling of Ascended Weapons was Atrocious

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

Stop moaning, would you rather have no ascended and have a huge gap between exotics and legendary.

Simply put, yes. A couple of points everyone seem to forget.

1) Before ascended gear legendaries had the same stats as exotics, so there was not a huge cap in stats.

2) Currently people argue that there is not a huge gap between exotics and ascended, therefore, without ascended there would still not be a huge gap between exotics and legendaries, even if legendaries kept the same stats as the current Ascended.

3) Nothing about crafting an ascended item helps you craft a legendary. So, to me, using the huge gap argument to support the introduction of ascended gear is like saying there is a huge gap between a Toyota and a Ferrari so we’ll introduce a Mercedes. If you get a Mercedes, you have in no way shortened the gap to getting a Ferrari, in many ways you’ve made it longer.

truth
and yes there was no gap because Legendaries were just skins.

But this one strut wasn’t nearly as important as say, creating a living breathing world. That was front and center. Dynamic events, that was front and center. Even the personal story, that was front and center.

.

that was the strength of the game at launch.

Even though they have since added Living Story to support the idea of a living breathing world- I feel that it doesn’t really have that effect in the game.

They have certainly moved away from DE’s and the personal story.

To me it feels like the game never actually developed it’s original ideas- instead they went for a formula that has been around for ages and many of us are tired of.
Honestly I think that is the reason for most of the anger.
for a while there we had what we wanted only to watch it evaporate in front of our eyes only to be replaced by McDonald’s

Trahearne is the first of the Pale Tree’s children- she tells you that in the level 4ish personal story, when you meet him.
He is literally the first of the Firstborn

Ascended weapons

Most of the people who were going to leave because of ascended gear have lft already. The few people who stayed, if they leave, it’s not going to make a tremendous dent in the playerbase. That ship has sailed.

Most of the people who are left behind either don’t care enough about it to leave, or like the progression.

I do not agree with you Vayne- many people were very unhappy about the addition of ascended gear because it was essentially a sop to the players who came from more traditional gear based MMO’s, burned through the content at the speed of light and then shouted MOAR.
Those people made no attempt to actually figure out what GW2 was about and many of them left regardless.

Many people did leave the game, some like me stayed because I was not willing to give up on a game I enjoyed because of one massive blunder that I could mostly ignore.

Please note that I do care, do not like the progression and I am sure that I am not alone.
I am watching the state of affairs like a hawk- so far I have been able to continue my game like Ascended does not exist, however hearing people quite happily talking about a raised level cap and even more tiers of gear makes me very very uneasy.

I have spent many hours and a lot of gold to get my characters how I like them- if that is taken away from me for the sake of some random numbers that has no meaning, to feed the ego’s of players who like bigger numbers for the sake of bigger numbers- I will be furious.

Add to that if level cap gets raised and another tier of gear gets added the new content will have to scale up to match it.
This will make it harder and eventually impossible for people who do not have the gear to do the content.

Ascended gear still smarts for many people- gentle curve is meaningless because it satisfies no-one, not the people who want horizontal progression nor the people who want vertical progression.
It doesn’t matter how gently you rub salt in a wound- it is still salt in a wound.

I am sure I am not alone

Why there should be a dps meter

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

My first argument is that gw2 is ultimately a game focused on self-progression, like most MMOs. Part of this progression is being able to identify your dps going up, either from getting better gear or becoming better at your rotation / choosing a more optimal trait setup and such.

I do not agree with this, because fundamentally GW2 is NOT focused on gear progression, which makes it unlike most MMOs.

With that, your entire argument falls apart.

Furthermore, I can’t see this being optional. It’s either DPS on or kick. When on it’s minimal this dps or kick. This minimum is always based on the most optimal cookie cutter, so fundamentally it’ll remove all builds, skills and traits from the game except the #1. What good is that?
Nothing good can come from this. I don’t want this game to have cookie cutter builds and rotations. It makes the game less fun.

This.

Also the game needs to move away from the DPS or get out mindset, this is purely player created and makes the game much less fun.

We have the ability to create different builds, experiment with different playstyles and gear combo’s- the moment you have a DPS meter all that goes out the window.

There are other ways of contributing to a fight you know.

Why are traits roman numerals and not images?

This is just OP’s preference rather than game polish

wrong. icons are polish.
roman numerals are just alpha stage placeholders that they forgotten about.

Evidence to support your claim?

this is fact, fact does not need evidence.

you keep using that word….
it is not a fact- it is your opinion, lets be clear.

It also seems to be a minority opinion because so far everyone else seems to be fine with the Numerals

Looks like the cargo cult of game design is out in full swing in this thread. Gear grind bad. Trinity bad. Large group content bad. So sayeth a manifesto from years ago!

I’ve yet to see the grand developer vision in action in providing a revolutionary alternative to the status quo.

That is ironic because I very much see it in action- it is called GW2 and yes, it is kind of revolutionary when you look at the status quo of gear progression, raids, and trinity.

nevermind kill stealing, loot stealing and ganking.
My word it is very much a revolution :P

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

If the explanation is that a bunch of other MMo players complained because they can’t increase their gear stats to be leet, I am going to cry.
Those players have mostly left and it improved the game for those who remained.
Please please Arena Net reconsider this- this is not what you promised us.
A lot of people love and play the game because it has no pointless gear creep that makes your work worthless every update.
For the first time in the game i am really disappointed.

Guild Wars 2, so far, is the only MMO that actually fits my play style.

No offense but I suspect this might be because you’re too unfocused to get one single thing done. Which is in itself not a bad habit, but it does stretch out the content in GW2 “unnaturally”. I promise you, a few days after you manage to get a Legendary or whatever other goal you set yourself you’d be bored.

not to be a groupie :P
but Vayne does have a legendary

I saw this item and I thought it a nice addition considering the price of metals on the TP lately- so it seems to me like a way to increase supply and taking a bit of pressure of people.

pity for me is that I have been selling those metals on the TP.

The price is fine- it is a permanent account upgrade- and it won’t kill you if you don’t have it.
I have exactly one node- the krait obelisk- in my home instance and my game has not gone up in flames because other people have more nodes
