The glaring hole in the Barradin theory is that he is cursed as well. Hopefully he will take the sword and simply decapitate the Charr that hands it to him. Those ghosts aren’t rational in our reality, they are stuck in theirs. Not that it will matter.
The prophecy will simply go away, to be supplanted by whatever the “writer” wants and any holes can be plugged with a new priory book 3 months later.
It is a human prophecy and, you know, humans are “mistaken”.
It all happened out of game. Content in game trumps that, as Stein informed us. Whatever they do for this story will be the “lore” and there is no point debating GW lore here. GW lore is now no more than a human centric “opinion”. It can and will be cast aside.
Been done before. Will be done again.
Ley lines will be involved.
Carry on.

Anyone not buying HoT and still playing ?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Teofa Tsavo.9863
Well, I know I will not be playing very much anymore until Anet realizes they need to release elite specializations to everyone, or at least have a way to earn it via in-game currency (gem store purchase similar to the deluxe version upgrade?) or perhaps something else achievement or story related. Elite specializations have ruined PvP and WvW for ANYONE who hasn’t purchased HoT, and it is painfully obvious that no amount of “balancing” in the upcoming months will be able to resolve this issue as the new skill sets are simply much more overpowered than the base game specializations.
Actually, I predict that we will see the “amg core pve too easy” rolling in from the HoT players, and eventually a balance pass made to at least the 75-80 core zones and world bosses in response. Core players have more screwing to come if I am correct.
The current cast is light years better and shows some real progress in story telling. I hope to see some really memorable work coming from the future. This is an area where the Anet team really seems to have listened to the players and made some meaningful work.
Thank you. This is very kind of you to say, and it makes me very happy. We’ve worked hard to make the PC’s best friends interesting and not cookie-cutter buddies. They’re the PC’s supporting cast, and as such, all their stories affect and reflect the PC’s story—your story.
Why is it necessary that this gaggle of unlikeable twits be my “best friends” and why it it constantly hammered at us?
My story? Hardly, since you even force emotion onto my character. For me, the biconics are annoying, unlikable baggage, and not my “best friends” in any stretch of suspension of disbelief.
Why could there not be neutral convo that lets the PC at least assign a relationship without it being decided for them?
Why can’t it be “meet with the group” instead of “meet with your best friends forever omg” Exaggeration, but that is how I feel you want me to think. And, I fail to see how assigning affection to my PC is remotely needed to advance “My” story.
I don’t like being a puppet. It is bad enough to force the biconics and their tepid, tedious, stereotyped interplay without scripting in affection for them.
You are god-modding how we think.

Vayne Quote for the day.
" The only thing really up for discussion here is the standards of school education in different countries"
Nice new tangent Vayne, if someone does not share your interpretation, they must be poorly educated.
You are so entertaining. :P
There is one possible way, and ONLY one way to intepret something that defines itself. In other words, Colin in his statement defined it. You’re not arguing with me, you’re arguing with the definition Colin give in the piece itself. This is basic English. Period. End of story. You can take the second mention of grind out of context, but it’s actually 100% clear and backed up by stuff that was said after the manifesto was released
They’re talking about what you have in most other games, this annoying grind to get to the fun stuff.
I don’t know how anyone in their right mind can think he’s talking about gear. Particularly when the last line of the paragraph states “we want to change the way people view combat”.
What Colin is talking about (and what he talked about after confirming it) is the leveling up you have to do in other games, to get to the fun stuff. He says this directly in the manifesto.
Everyone has agendas. Everyone wants to take the one line out of the piece and try to define the word grind differently and true, that word CAN be defined differently…unless it’s defined in the document itself.
I’m an editor by trade. I turn off my agenda when reading something. Most people can’t do this.
Actually, Vayne, I was talking about your tendency, that anyone can see in your post history, of adding an un-needed “zinger” or parting shot to almost every post discussing the two games. Usually an offhand or oblique reference to education, intelligence, or some other disparaging comment or reference.
They never help your point, your message could be made without them, and they only ramp up the aggro, so to speak. Just like the last sentence above, implying you have an ability that whoever you responded to does not. What did that add?
You say you are an editor.. so, you are aware of it, I assume, and so I wonder even more, why do it?
Its like two hypothetical statement from an IT guy to a comp user.
1. You can’t just turn the power off. You have to shutdown Windows.
or
2. You can’t just turn the power off. You have to shutdown Windows. Any 6th grader would know this.
Which statement ramps up aggro, insults, and degrades the advice by doing so? Second statement, true or not, is insulting and adds personal issues to an otherwise straightforward communication.
So, which is it. Are you ignoring “editing” your own posts.. or are you a very masterful troll?
I haven’t decided yet.
In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.
Being the least mediocre in a sea of mediocre game releases isn’t a revolution in gaming.
All the people in the games industry must just be wilfully blind and stupid right? I mean if you can see the solution right off it must be the right one.
No. Just a simple observation that myself, and quite possibly many others, are playing this because it is the best available, and not a rubber stamp on overall quality or inclusion of features. It is as much a statement of the inability of the genre, in general, to actually innovate post WoW, and being the “best” of a stagnated industry isn’t the huge deal it is made out to be.
No metric will show that I am playing this, in spite of being deeply disappointed.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Isn’t the map limits exactly the same as it was before the mega-server?
Unsure, that’s irrelevant, they need to increase the capacity regardless.
Please, no! Give me some way to opt for a lesser-crowded area! It’s why I picked my particular server to begin with, but now nobody can choose to be less crowded. I don’t want to live in Megatropolis. I would love to see the numbers cut AT LEAST in half. And the MegaServer removed completely from the main cities, where it serves no purpose.
this this this this.
Megamerge has no excuse to be in our cities. The sole “server” city should not be spawn point in WvW.
If you are losing money in WvW you are doing it wrong. Really wrong.
Meaning, you aren’t running in a Zergball.
If you buy upgrades, scout, small havoc, camp flips, make improved siege, you are losing gold anyway, and repair costs just add to it.
This attitude kills wvw, kills most individualism in game, kills addressing real issues.
One way or the highway does this game more harm than anything else, and it is really bad that it seems to be the semi official Anet policy as well.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
I have always enjoyed GW1 and now 2 because Anet has not foisted the conventions of society upon their games. Women/Men have no “roles”, you see as many Female soldiers as you do male herbalists and cooks.
Alternate reality games need not follow the conventions/restrictions of real societies. That is the joy of them.
Shame of showing the body has to be taught. It is not inherent. Until judo/christianity forced the concept of original sin upon most of the world, there was not this idiot idea that bare breasts meant “vessel of sin” Many cultures had no issues of sexuality regarding bare skin until it was forced upon them by various religions. Cultures had less issues with homosexuality as well.
What offends me, far more deeply than any glimpse of skin, is the attitude that people feel free to label and judge based upon looks in a Video game. I’m 56, I don’t wear leather panties and boots to run to the convenience store. Actually, never worn such a thing in my life. Yet.. my char does in game, so, people feel free to either accuse me of being some vile little man abusing myself, or, if they admit I might be female, is obviously trolling for a little ERP action.
Grow up people. Stop skittening like 12 year olds over a bit of side breast, stop giggling over asexual sylvari being “lesbians”, stop assuming that the religion imposed garbage of our civilization has to be imposed upon Tyria.
sorry for wall of text.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Hi my dear Anet!!!! need more evidence that megaserver was bad idea???? forget the megaserver, it is quite simple: “we were wrong, sorry. We will back to the previous server method”.
Think of the players (customers) and dont destroy the gameWhy are you more important than those people?
And when did the poster state that? YOU stated that. Again, you attempt to inflame, belittle and directly attack an individual stating what is just their opinion.
That being said: may I ask why you even played this game, as jumping always was an optional thing, which you clearly dislike – per your own words?
In what way was it optional?
It locked story content long before this update, so how is that anymore optional than this one?
Optional content. Temporary content. It never blocked entry to a permanent zone.
But don’t let facts dissuade you.
What the OP is suggesting is what ANET did with the 3 campaigns in GW.
It was nice and worked well. Therefore, it needed to be trash canned for the Brave New MMO.
The trouble with the CDI topics is, they do not want input. They want feedback on what they have already decided to do.
And then they paint themselves into a corner with no way out.. as this LS illustrates very well.
But if jumping should be optional, shouldn’t combat, puzzle solving, reading, listening, looking and thinking be optional as well?
Wouldn’t that basically mean the game would be nothing at all?Or should they just cater to those that dislike jumping, while ignoring those that dislike other parts of the game?
hyperbole. sPvP is optional. WvW is optional. Crafting is optional. Map completion is optional. Personal story is optional. Standalone JPs are optional. Living story is optional. Dungeons are optional. If a person does not like such content, all they forego is the rewards and AP connected to them. Personally, I would never ask for rewards for content I choose not to do.
Basic access to a new world zone should not be a “reward”. Basic access should be available to anyone playing.
Anet includes elements of “optional” content in order to achieve unrelated goals as a blunt force mechanism to “play their way”.
Forcing jumping to simply enter the 2nd new world zone introduced is pushing that “play our way” syndrome too far and focusing far too much on a single aspect of play.

Laughing so hard. A long time ago, I said that if Anet decided mounts were worth selling, we would have mounts.
And now we are seeing the slow progression into that. Gliders in Core (see “no reason to have them” argument), and now this little change.
All of the dead horse gifs and expressions of horror accomplished nothing. More Mounts will come, people will buy and use them enthusiastically, and still stubbornly proclaim “It’s not a mount”
So very amusing.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
This seems to be the inevitable conclusion when you design your Dynamic Event system around “Everyone who shows up wins a gold medal.”
Those mechanics work well for a certain, infamous kind of Olympics. Not so much an online RPG that encourages you to tweak your character and gear, and strategize intelligently around a wide variety of encounters.
Perhaps its time to rethink what “participation” truly entails.
It’s a bit more complicated than that, if you consider scaling. Maw, for instance, is level 12 content. As it is today, a level 12, with level 12 skills, stands a good chance of bronze at best, even trying to participate in the horde of camped 80s. If you put a participation threshold based upon damage, kills, whatever.. these players will be gated even more.
Contrast to Svanir’s dome, where appropriate level players actually have to work a bit to take down a much harder, mobile boss, for.. a pat on the head and a pittance event reward. Few high level players bother, no chest. Lots of participation for nothing.
Effort has little to do with rewards in GW2.

ANet has said repeatedly that this is THEIR game. They have total control over the vision, the direction, the content, etcetera.
The players can accept what the developers are doing, tolerate it, or walk away.
You are, of course correct.
It just makes me sad.
The level of quality that the game offered at launch compared to what the Living Story offers us now are like night and day. I only keep playing because there’s still enough repeatable core content that interests me (for now).
I could not possibly agree more.
At release, this game had me as excited as a kid at Christmas. That is not something I could say about any other MMO I have played in over 14 years. Then, it seemed, slowly, after about January 2013, something changed, and patch after patch, the quality appeared to downward spiral.
My guild enjoys the 5-man content and mobile combat, along with most of WvW.
The original artwork and graphics for this game are superb.
The story writing since LS first went in just makes us wince. And what could be construed as a desperate ploy for attention grabbing by destroying LA …
…well…. that just makes us sad.
PS: When you realize that ANet will do what it wants, for whatever reason, that the Dungeon Master appears to be acting capriciously and arbitrarily, without regard to consequences, without regard for consistency within their own lore, then what trust is there left for any sense of game integrity? I suspect that if it suited ANet, there would be no reason to retain ANY of the characters from LA (council, Evon, etcetera).
No amount of logic (from customers trying to reason out who/what will survive and what will happen next) will hold in the face of ANet’s demonstrated behavior. (Perhaps they want it that way.)
At this point, nothing they do would surprise me. Including destorying their own game.
This sums up how I feel very nicely. This game is devolving, and the current Anet team seems to delight in destroying their own creations and lore to prove something.
They may well be remembered for doing what no mmo has done before, they desperately seem to want this.. but will it be a Pyrrhic victory?
The ownership thing is beyond anything I have seen in 14 years myself as well, to the point of not even allowing client side UI and graphic options. The constant prodding to do what they feel we should be doing. CDI threads that bluntly put some development decisions “off the table”. Then the whole “we think most players are bad so we made Marionette and Jungle worm to make you get better” attitude of the last chapter.

The old sword animation was fun and one of the best animations I’ve seen.
The new one looks like a blind person stabbing at a pinata. It is horribad.
I found as much positive in the old “stick to the target” as I did negative, honestly.
Plus, it appears we got a dps nerf for sword as well.
I have 8 rangers. I loved sword and dagger but… I’ll probably find another weapon. It is painful to watch them now.

The current LS system makes this the MOST Alt-unfriendly game I know of. Nothing is really repeatable on many alts given the time gating and account based achievement system.
One small example. In GW1 I was able to do WIK 14 times, for the same reward, on all characters. The “meta” reward was not by account, but by character. The content was/is permanent, and available to be played eventually by any new character created.
Permanent content is alt-friendly. Temporary is not, and you can’t spin it any other way.
I assume you mean the achievements and not the content, because I completed the most recent LS content on every one of my alts. They all went up the Nightmare tower and killed the Hybrid. So how is that unfriendly again? Because I can’t replay it? That has nothing to do with alt-friendliness. If you had one character you still wouldn’t be able to replay it.
I guess it is alt-unfriendly if you have 12+ alts. But with 8 characters I was easily about to get them all to kill hybrid before the 4 weeks was over…. in fact 4 of the characters I did on the same day. So, uh………yea….I guess you can spin it another way.
And the character you create next week? Good luck. And that is the difference. All alts.. not current alts. The freedom and ability to play added permanent content as you create and level alts over the life of a game.
So.. what did you do with the 8 meta rewards…. oh, thats right.. you didn’t get 8. You got one. How did sharing the reward out among 8 characters go for you?
Where did they say that you may as well disband your guild without HoT? Must have missed that. Oh, right, they neglected to mention that fine point.
Losing buffs isn’t the issue. Not being able to do any upgrades to replace them without HoT is.
Feel free to tell me how I could have used a buff not quite finished building.

Well, I had visited the pastry shop that preceded the new one for years. I told many friends and was a regular customer.
When they announced a larger store, I was excited. I told more friends, assuring them that the new store would be the same quality in a more exciting location and staffed to provide new and different pastry while retaining the old. popular, signature products.
Then came the opening. The staff I knew were all gone or too busy to talk. I attempted to order my favorite old product, only to be told it had been replaced. Most of the menu had been replaced.
I asked if I could please have an Apple fritter with apples in it in place of Mt Dew flavored Gummy Worms. The employees looked at me blankly and said nothing.
A group of people I had never seen before got very upset with me, told me to go back to a shop I had never been to, explained loudly that gummy worms >apples in apple fritters, and demanded I just leave the shop forever. I noticed another group by the suggestions and comments box, intercepting and ripping suggestions apart to “protect” the new shop. From who, I wondered? Valuable long term customers?
Hmm. I knew the old shop was still open. I tried there. There was a single caretaker, who explained to me that I could get an Apple fritter from a vending machine there. Not fresh, not hot, dried out . But.. it still existed. And it still had apples in the fritters, even if they were years old. Surprisingly, they were still better than Mt Dew Gummy Worm fritters.
/shrug. lets play more bad analogy games yay!!!!
@Vayne. Once again, how can you possibly know the interior workings of Anet so “well” as to present yourself as spokesman for them? The constant mantra of “I’m right because I know what the Devs think” is getting tired and was never valid.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
I will state. from my perspective, that asking what television elements need to be in game is, quite frankly, the most disheartening thing I have ever seen posted by a Lead, in 10+ years of MMO gaming.
I would look for inspiration in what you have already shown you can do.
Look at how you developed Varesh as a long term adversary. You showed us her motives, how she came to be, showed her progression into madness. You did not throw her into the world going “muaaa haaa haaaa”
Look at your development of General Morgahn. Look how Varesh sent Captains, minions, forces against us while she pursued her goals. And.. she had goals. Goals that became clear as the story progressed. Goals we worked hard to prevent.
Varesh didn’t summon some outlandish alliance of x and y. We knew where her forces came from, why, and how.
Look at other things you have done. Miku. Without her, the “personal” story line of Hearts of the North would have been impossible. We needed her. She needed us. That is how you create connection to an NPC char. You have done it, and done it well. Miku is a huge contrast to the NPC “help” we get in the stories here. It is hard to connect to a bumbling idiot you don’t need, want, and have to compensate for.
For brevity I just put a couple examples in.
Please. Do not look at a popular medium that relies upon entertaining passive, non interactive people as inspiration. Look at your own track record. Look at all the examples of what you did when you did it right. And there is a lot of that.
Anet does not need to redefine their ability to tell compelling stories. You need to just go back to doing it.
Look at your lore. We just now, barely, have addressed Orr. If you wanted to make Scarlet terrifying, you could have had her using her intellect, talents, and forces to track down the Scepter of Orr.. That would have been a threat worth caring about.

This “writing” team is beyond redemption. The “story” has gone too far, is too riddled with contradiction and plot holes, and too much time is being spent in current chapters attempting (and failing) to explain past plot catastrophes. Too much effort wasted trying to rationalize the way Scarlett was characterized, and the wasted effort is ongoing, creating yet more plot holes to be repaired down the line. if ever.
In addition the thing is just a mess of popular tropes and stock fanfic elements with little attempt to actually fit any of it to Tyria and the cultures. Nearly all fiction is derivative now, but little attempt was made to at least make some effort to fitting it to the Tyrian world.

Lol, Runeblade, you almost got me again.
And yeah, I don’t need one. Good, because I’m the lady that can stick 4 80 rares in the mystic casino and get.. nothing. No point in even going there.
Please bring back SaB so all these rabbits have something to hop on.Leaving alone the living story for the lore lovers and RP’ers. Which this game is supposed to be…
it’s the setting and the gameplay + the story that made that update great, standing in the way of good gameplay it just not very intelligent
And now, if we don’t care for/have difficulty with platforming, we are stupid? I suppose that goes with lazy, unwilling, “bottom 2%”, whiners, poor players and every other negative slam and insult thrown out in this thread.
GG. Hope you feel so good about yourself.
I can hope I guess that Anet will continue this attitude so I can laugh and make snark responses down the road.
Access to a new open zone by a pvp corridor. Because, if you dislike pvp don’t play gw2
Access to a new open zone by Fractals progression. Because, if you dislike dungeons don’t play gw2.
Access to a new open zone by +500 crafting quest, Because, you know, if you dislike crafting don’t play gw2.
etc.
Demanding that all players partake of all optional activities is a mistake. Using them as gatekeepers is even worse.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Teofa Tsavo.9863
OP, let them be Anet white knights all they want to. It’s still early into the xpac. They don’t have the foresight any intelligent person would have to know how horrible it’s going to be when you’re on you 5th toon trying to unlock your elite spec. Once they finally get around to that point, they’ll see the light. The grind will finally have worn away their fanboy attitude and they’ll understand what we, and the THREE THOUSAND other angry posters are talking about (reference; see the mega thread). Each elite spec takes an average of 20-25 hours to unlock. I have 11 toons. So kindly, go kitten yourself if you think it’s entitled or whining for wanting elite specs at a lower rate.
This is a poor argument.
1) – Masteries are account bound, so after you have unlocked them all on one character, it will be much easier on the others.
2) – You chose to have 11 characters. It takes much more effort to get all those characters to level 80 than to unlock the Elite. Even with tomes. You had to expend effort to get those.
3) – It is not grind if you can get it by just playing the game. Getting Hero Points is just that: playing the game.
So all that said, there ARE reasonable points to the arguments that you an people like you make, it is just the tone you take that kills all reasonable conversation.
For one thing, while Hero Points should remain challenging, they should also do a better job scaling. All of them should be solo-able, but not eye-bleedingly easy with more people in the area.
For another, the total hero points required should be about half of what it is to fully unlock all traits and skills. The remaining half should unlock skins.
Well I do think his “tone” could have been influenced by being called an “Entitled Whiner”. Hostility breeds hostility.
Yah, Scarlets chest. Does she really need to be more endowed than any other sylvari too?
I mean, I know she is better than everyone at everything but this is overkill.
Oh.. wait.. those chests. Nevermind.
Agreed, Malafide.
We had few opportunities in GW1 to witness other races dealing with our “human only” gods. It was a human-centric story.
That being said, the Centaur being slaughtered by Abbadons Margonites in Kourna were not given the option to “not” believe in his existence or power. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Battle_of_Turai%27s_Procession
We did not see more, simply because of the exodus, and generally not co-opting with other races. The gods in GW had to have effected all races. Being, you know, Gods.
And I will repeat my question. Why weren’t small guilds an issue 2 weeks ago.? Why were our upgrades not an issue? Where were all the snide remarks?
Cutting through the BS of how many people and DE and rl guilds and other sermonettes.
We have guilds. That is what the game gave us, what they are called. Regardless of member numbers. The game did not gate anything until higher level group upgrades that were gated to required number of members.
We had something, earned upgrades. Now we don’t, and we can’t get it back. It is a very simple issue.
Don’t give me this “You were a guild, now you are not” bovinefeces. I still have a “Guild” in game and in spite of only 2 members it hasn’t gone away.
Nobody took them away. They were just made useless after several years of being fine as they were.
The only justification I see for the disdain for small guilds today is.. The Haves NEED some Have Nots to look down upon, and that idiotic pixillated hall was the catalyst.
(edited by Teofa Tsavo.9863)
Well. It’s as poorly done as the original problems the writer is trying to fix.
There is no ingame evidence of a Kournan/Centaur alliance in GW.
If the writer so desperately needs repair of LS1 holes, Khibron would have been the model NPC for a treatise on duping people to do bidding. Togo would have been one regarding alliances. Instead of choosing an aspect of GW lore that supports the idea of duping, using people, or making alliances, the choice was made to fabricate an unsupportable and out of character reference to Varesh Ossa.
Because Varesh was simply a better villain.
As a daytime NA player on FA this amuses me.
What goes around comes around. Deal with it.
If it disappeared tomorrow I wouldn’t mind. Tried it for a year not really my thing. I would however pay good money for a nice campaign or expansion. Kinda sad when you think about it, a year after Prophecies was released they put out Factions. What do we have a year after GW2 was released? Well if you weren’t there to see it you may never know.
^ this
In a year content was added to GW1. Here, content is removed in favor of shoddy temporary failures.
No matter what destruction Anet scripts Scarlet to perform, at the end of it she is still a laughable cardboard cutout.
Congratulations Anet. You have managed to bring in the Raider Elite mindset lock, stock and barrel into your “different” MMO.
Too bad you didn’t finish the job and bring in the instanced mechanics.
Well Hamfast, that was the sales pitch.
It was a server merge. Since all were merged they won’t ever have to again.
PR damage control. We will never see the dreaded “GW2 announces Server Mergers” on an MMO website.
They won’t ever roll it back. Too concerned about social media and Image.
It gutted community for me. Seeing a name I know is a shock.
Hmm. I’ll bet someone here has a Sylvari-kin Tumbler blog.
Sorry, these bipolar, dysfunctional dragon minions have had far too much of the spotlight.
Norn had a great chance for expansion of their Lore post GW. What we got was a shallow characterization as drunken klingons. OH, MAH LEGUND!!!! Oh, wait, we did get the sensitive coming of Age story of a boy who loved furries, raised by insensitive Drunken Klingons. I discarded that bit of junk.
No sympathy for the snowflake here.

Trying to claim what the “silent majority” likes or dislikes is fail, considering they are silent.
I will always remember John Smedly, CEO of SOE, stating that “people who like the NGE are playing the game, not posting on the forums” Shortly after that, they lost massive numbers of subscribers, and were forced to refund an expansion purchase to anyone that asked for it.
No one knows what the silent majority is doing. Silently playing the game, or Silently uninstalling it.
I am amused by the constant comparisons to just one game, GW1, and the attempts to justify the glacial pace of actual new expansion content by pointing out all the things GW2 has to do that GW1 didn’t.
Compare it to a real MMO. Everquest 2 launched in 2005. It had underwater content, combat. Quite a lot of it actually. It had jumping and content that required it. 24 classes. Far more races. More dungeons, more quests, more overland area. Housing. Raids. Open instances. Open world bosses. Actual in-depth crafting. More graphics options. Flexible UI. Far more guild management tools. Mounts. World events. Seasonal Events. And with all of that, SOE has managed to release full boxed expansions on an average of once a year, and has expanded the “features” of that game with every single one of them.
That is what GW2 is going to have to do to have the longevity, in this genre, as the Everquest franchise has had, and continues to have. GW2 needs to step up to the plate to play in the big leagues.
In so many ways ANET has the potential to be a force in the MMO world for many years.. IF they take the changes they have made mechanics wise and then adapt and adopt what has been very successful for the industry as a whole as well.
Living World isn’t going to cut it. Not in the long run. It’s not new, only the pace is. I’ve done temporary “World Events” in Everquest 2 since it launched.. it is their name for it. It is something to do.. between new expansion content. Temporary content is no replacement for an expansions worth of permanent content, not there, and not here.

Gee, I have to apologize as well, because the 5 worthless vets I killed 20 mins ago that dropped absolutely nothing were obviously a figment of my imagination, as all other Veterans and Champions who have dropped nothing also have been.
All the times I have killed champions I obviously got loot, but somehow refused to see it. Perhaps I need to “believe with all my heart” that loot drops, and faith will make it so.
The trinity in other games meant standing around for long periods of time looking for tanks and healers. It also meant that those who play “healing classes” but chose to spec for damage or general support (buffs, CC, DoTs) were kicked as soon as the group leader found out that Cleric A was a Battle Cleric and not a Healbot.
I see no good that could come from making the trinity a viable mechanic in GW2. Mesmers, Rangers, Thieves, and Engineers would immediately become obsolete without a complete rework. Everyone would be Warriors, Guardians and Eles. Damage and Toughness/Vitality would become “king” and poor Necros would simply fade away, as they don’t do enough damage to DPS, and they don’t have enough health to tank.
I would much rather see support roles that actually mean something other than standing around waiting for the DPSers to wear down the boss so they can get in a couple of hits in order to get some sort of reward. As much as everyone dislikes the upcoming nerf to zerker gear, people are going to have to think for themselves and make some new builds. Maybe a new playstyle will come of this.
Haven’t really played much of the actual games have you. Pretty obvious. No need for DPS, cc, offtanks, wards, etc. All things a serious Raid group needs beyond “healer and tank”. Also the “standing around doing nothing” is a player choice. So is waiting for the “perfect” group.. and “standing around waiting for a group” is still in GW2 for people who cannot comprehend there is more than one way to play “any” game. That won’t change no matter what mechanics are involved.
People get groupkicked all the time in GW2 for being the “wrong” class and build. What has changed?
From what I read looks like the zone will have a timed enviromental effect, miasma, that will just kill you, event or not.
looks like exploring the zone will have to be done in stages.
Thankfully, I am not bothering.
This Thread is full with absurd opinions, really hillarious. Have you ever played any game which made an expension at all? What did you expect? The Dungeon nerf was btw reasonable because it was way to rewarding compared to other things when it just takes you around 10min to get all the stuff by skipping 80% of the content. This is really weak from everyone of you who compains here.
Dunno. I’ve bought more expansions from Everquest2 alone than Anet have produced in the life of the company.
I’ve never seen a company purposefully destroy core content to leverage an expansion purchase. Until now. Yeah, “innovation”.
The model always used was “Buy this to get these cool additions” not “Buy this to get back what we took away”.
It is a very poor way to do business.
Not impressed by the interview, since he pointed out WvW season 1 as a “success”.
All that did was bring in a mass of fairweathers who checked off boxes on an achievement list, skewed the rankings, and then logged out of WvW to never play it again till offered another shiny carrot. Pretty much an example of how poorly the achievement system in general impacts the game… once the boxes are checked, the content is abandoned in favor of the next set of checkboxes.
It brought the achievement farming mentality to wvw. Don’t flip this camp, we are farming yaks. Don’t upgrade this, we get achievement if we lose it and take it back. We need to lose some keeps so I can destroy walls. etc etc. People not there for WvW, but for a checkbox.
WVW issues were not touched, nothing was done for long term WvW players, and tbh Season 1 was just a blip to be forgotten about.

It will be Godzilla. With a Scarlet do. Scarzilla.
Who rolled a Ranger to be a healer? How is this even remotely a Ranger Archetype?
Stupid. I don’t care how “useful” it may be. I cannot believe people are happy with this pathetic bone tossed to the Ranger class.
They really have no concern for handicapped. Mandatory JPs are proof of that.
The town that Genocide built. The chamber of commerce there tries to keep that under the rug.
None of the above. Bad enough the Charr were snowflaked to make them playable.
I’m sure that reading more suggestions will convince me the game is doomed.
