But.. the trend is towards wow weaps/armor.. the magic lantern w/e shoulders are beyond ridiculous.

What you are asking here for OP is:

“Please make the living story content less living!”

It is SUPPOSED to interfere with the daily routine. It is SUPPOSED to be harder then normal content. It’s the freaking dredge and flame legion technology and magic combined. These things make the world more dynamic. I for one actually like events, that don’t play out the same way every time.

Side note: I have an alt, an lv18 Engieneer. You know what I did when I encountered events that were too hard for me on Wayfarer Foothills? Asked for help…

And how do you so firmly assert how ANYTHING is “supposed” to be in this game unless you designed it? Link to a Red name please, or remind yourself that it is only your opinion.

Dynamic. rofl. Yes, that scope was back up in 3 mins. Dynamic all right. World changing. And guess what.. things play out the same, over and over, all day long.

Why would ANYONE design new content that is “supposed to be harder” only for level appropriate chars in a zone? New chars. My 70s and 80s swat this “supposed to be harder” content like bugs. Not hard, not at all. The “supposed to be harder” theory only effects a very small part of the population.. those from 5-25 who are “supposed” to be in those zones. What logic is this?

There is “harder” content designed for low level players, and in the mission I mentioned, 3 “normal” Veterans ambushing the escort. So why such a magnitude of difficulty increase for only low levels who do not have the skills to cope with it. Normal “Veterans” in these zones don’t begin to have the difficulty.

Also, the part being missed.. Not complaining re the Living Content being hard or not. I don’t care. The point is, poor placement of it makes other, unrelated content harder or even undoable for actual low levels. They cannot bypass this stuff in some areas. My complaint is that it impacts low levels just attempting to do “normal” quests, and doesn’t impact a high level at all.

Also, I am done with the zones, this is my 8th char and they are finished. I am not asking for myself, in any way, as I don’t need to be there. But things like this need pointed out.

And done with this thread. Obviously Anet could feed some of you maggots on a cracker, call it a pizza, and you would rave about the meal.

Personal Story and lots of deaths...

I gave up and just leveled, then went back. Even then it was usually one death per mission, usually at the “oh wait, there is more” spam spawn. In all cases spawns totally ignore any NPC help and beeline straight to my characters. Forgal was decent help at times, Eir may as well not have been in the instance for any missions with her. For supposedly being solo missions they are very poorly designed and balanced. Good design is NOT zerging from a checkpoint till you eventually thin things out.

To be clear, nothing was disabled for you by not having HoT. You just don’t get that beefier motor that can go faster and do more things essentially.

Not having it doesn’t make the game unplayable, but it makes it harder for you to compete with those who do have the expansion. Call it an engine upgrade, people who bought HoT gained a turbocharger.

I have never seen a company, in any expansion, get away with removing previously earned core content features and placing them behind a new expansion pay wall. Not once.

I’ve purchased more expansions for EQ2 alone than Anet has produced in their history.

So.. how living and meaningful would the Flame & Frost storyline be if it did not, in anyway or form, effect anything?

Oh yes, it would have been so less living and dynamic, so much less, had the added content not been placed to grief level 4s. Without that, the entire meaning of the story would be lost, and become nothing. Without this periscope, placed EXACTLY where it is, the story would have lost all meaning. Totally. Everything hinges on this particular scope rolling newbies around.

Shortly afterwards SWG lost most of it player base.. and were forced to refund the cost of an expansion to any player who asked for it. The magnitude of the mistakes made were reported in the Wall Street Journal.

I want ZERO aspect of television. I feel there is far too much of the “extra in red shirt” role given to us in this game as it is.

I don’t watch TV, much less invest myself in it. I don’t spend RL cash to differentiate “my” char on a TV show.. I don’t have one. I don’t get a personal attachment. When the show became boring, I turned it off, walked away, didn’t care.

I don’t want to watch a script being mouthed by actors. I don’t want a script given to me.

I want far less of ANET functioning as directors, managing our every movement in game. “Cut. You aren’t doing it right”

Every time I read “ley lines” I want to cringe, literally.

It is a tired, old, overused “explainitall” popping up in writing since the 60s in relation to magic, shamanism, ancient astronauts, paranormalism, vampires.. oh god.. anything and everything. It first cropped up in the twenties..as sheer speculation based on the locations of prehistoric structures.. nothing to do with “magiks” then.

In spite of the ’concept" being well established in a ton of mostly mediocre fiction, Anet, wisely, chose to ignore it when creating a “magical” world when they wrote GW1. Blizzard embraced it wholeheartedly.

And now, we have it here. No basis, no history, no mention prior… in spite of Asura being able to track things that “bleed magic” (Vekk, on the location of the CTC)

This is just pulling stock, one size fits all common “lore” off a shelf. It’s not good writing, its not imaginative writing, and it is shoehorned into Tyria thoughtlessly and needlessly.

Perhaps avoid Event Overlaps in future?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Teofa Tsavo.9863

Teofa Tsavo.9863

In Wayfarer, Periscopes spawn and interfere with other events, particularly part of maw, when you are in range of the spammed KD for part of the event, and the particle effect of the eavesdrop is only adding insult to an already particle saturated area. This same periscope will spam KDs on players during the ice Elemental battle at the homestead, and on players doing the Snowman collection for Rani.

Fissures spawn ice elementals on players engaging Wolfmaster, killing the ram, and other events. A periscope will also spawn on players doing the trophy ram, adding KD spam to that event.

Invasion Portals spawn often at the end of the Escort Brewmaster, often adding a Veteran or two, and increasing the difficulty for actual newer players.

None of this is really an issue for scaled down 80s, but I’ve seen level appropriate characters insta owned by these events adding to an event they are engaged in.

It is still a new player zone.

Perhaps in the future they could be isolated a bit more?

No HoT = Useless Guild?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Teofa Tsavo.9863

Teofa Tsavo.9863

From what I can ascertain (and, admittedly, I am still a little confused…), these changes will be hurting small guilds the most.

Small guild and solo guild are very different.

To begin with, it is absurd that a solo player can get 3/4 of the guild stuffs by themselves. Solo player can even buy their way through. Of course, a lot of people took it for granted but honestly speaking, you don’t actually see such thing happening in another MMO. You don’t really see solo guild in other mmos, to even start a guild, you need to have a number of people to do so.

The large guilds work their way up through combined efforts, building a large guild is not even that easy in the first place thus there’s are only that many large guilds in this game. There are tons of small and medium sized guilds than large guilds. Anet didn’t make cross chat for large guilds, they made it for the small and medium size guilds, cross chat actually put some stress on the large guilds since more kind of people can now join them so much easier than before. Anet didn’t remove the influence because of large guilds, they did so for the small and medium sized guilds because they are the ones that complain about influence, too bad for solo guilds though.

There are things that are intentionally done for the small and medium sized guilds, nothing is intentionally done for the large ones except for limiting their growth for guild hall. However, anet also want to give “Guild” their rightful place and meanings by making people earn for that place, so that “Guild” won’t be just yet another “thing” in Gw2 which a solo player can earn everything by himself or herself.

I have a Solo Guild in Everquest 2. level 60, earned by me, solely since level 19, and it was a hell of a lot more work than anything here. I have one in GW as well. I also had one in SWG. In all cases these were “sole survivor” guilds as people stopped playing. Same as my Guild in GW2.

I earned all that my Solo guild here had by the rules in place. If they wanted a higher criterion going forward, fine, but taking away nearly all of what I had earned in game, following the rules in place then, is just wrong. Gating the ability to rebuild my guild to a purchase of HoT is even more wrong.

And I was fine not earning commendations and doing bounties and such. It was ok, that was group content. I never asked for the ability to solo every guild related activity.
There was already a lot of group centered guild activity, and never did I ask or expect that I could do those things.

I’m sure HoT guilds will include Solo guilds anyway. Non HoT guilds, no matter what the size, have been destroyed.

It really is not about Solo guilds. It is about destroying a core content accomplishment that has been here for years in order to further leverage an expansion purchase. Which, in my opinion, is both petty and shoddy.

sure, why don’t we dumb the game down even more. how about removing traits also?

-Increases balance in WvW.
(Since F&N isn’t a requirement not every body uses it. For example, you come across a player who is using F&N while you aren’t. Your defeat usually is quick and painless.)

If you’re losing 1v1 to a player using food and you’re not, it’s not because of the food. That player obviously cares about maximizing his performance while you obviously don’t, which probably carries over to other aspects of your gameplay.

Skill is a major factor, I 100% agree.

Let’s delve deeper. If there was a 1v1 between two players, same class, same build, equal experience; but one uses F&N. We both agree that the F&N user would win, correct? So does double clicking an item makes that player better? I don’t feel that is very skillful.

Preparation IS skill, and the unprepared player deserves the loss.

All the rest remain relevant.

Seriously? I suggest you spend a bit more time looking at NPC dialog, Reading text, and paying attention. I can guarantee you Lion Guards and the havens will still be shipping goods to LA, that NPCs will be talking about it pre-destruction, and the bulk of the world will go on blissfully unaware of this update. Ft Trinity won’t care, the Vigil babysitting cannons in Frostgorge won’t care, the Majority of the world won’t care.

World storyline events introduced new Races, Zones, return of the deities, Guild Halls, Zones, transportation systems, Cities revamps, Neriak, lore content, etc etc.

Somehow SOE managed one expansion a year (average) on top of these. Still does. World events are in addition to expansions, and are always “free”.

How is Anet less capable with more employees? Why are consumers so happy with so much less?

I honestly thought This game would incorporate as much as standard MMOs, with the unique gameplay and vision they showed they were capable of in GW. Instead of that, I see cookie cutter zerg content, recycled “innovations” promoted as groundbreaking, and far less QOL features than games launched years ago. Don’t even get me started on the copypasted writing and characters.

That game I hoped for is still my hope, but I think another company will have to do it. One that focuses on selling me features instead of selling me hype.

When one does, the door won’t hit me on the way out. I’m not holding my breath in this LCD market waiting for that.

And why should we have an expansion? Because GW1 had them? Because it will add a bunch of content that would be zerged through in a matter of days, and then more QQing about nothing to do. Granted they could have done some of the open world stuff differently, but this was mostly an experiment. To see the best way to implement open world story, and keep it permenant, as well as instanced. I wouldn’t go so far to say it was a fail, but it could have been done better. Also with so many people logging on the first day, all the events were way over crowded, and laggy. After a few weeks, im sure they will calm down, and actually be easier to do.

You do know that the open world content for this chapter is mostly old content with minor add ons? Stuff like adding another totem or piles of rubble to very old content is not, to me, new content.

Look saying dynamic events aren’t dynamic is false, only from this point of view. They scale dynamically. As people leave they get weaker. As people come they get stronger. That makes them dynamic.

Things get named all the time. And dynamic events, because they are events that scale dynamically are aptly named.

Or have a different name. It isn’t a staggeringly new concept.

“A public quest progresses through several stages as it continuously runs. They are dynamic, meaning that the content will scale up or down in difficulty depending on how many players are actively participating in the PQ and whether the stages were successes or failures. The mobs in PQs are non-contested. This means that they cannot be locked, that you cannot kill steal and that you can jump in and assist an ungrouped player with a mob they’re working on”

Design Philosophy: Then and Now

I think everyone who has read your posts realizes you have a very strong agenda of trying to make up as many excuses to defend ArenaNet as possible (with the little token criticism here and there to save face). That’s probably why so many ignore the way you try to defend the Manifesto – your arguments are biased due to your own agenda.

How is his argument biased or based on an agenda? He’s stating his opinions same as you. It’s unfortunate that people feel the need to gang up on him due to his frequent posting. I’ve read nothing but calm, collected, thoughtful posts from him, and all I see him get is bile in return. Turning the discussion from it’s topic to an attack on his credibility is a sign of a weak argument.

I think this thread should be closed because it doesn’t seem to be about discussing how to interpret the manifesto anymore, so much as attacking people who don’t share a preconceived interpretation.

I suggest you read his post history a bit better. Far too many gems of

I know more than you
I’m better educated than you
I comprehend more than you
I understand more than you
I know what the devs meant, more than you
I have a better understanding of MMOs than you

On and on. He claims to take that tone because of frustration about being “attacked” but, doing what he does just generates more aggro. He is indeed taking heat, like a tank doing taunts.

Its pretty much I’m right, you are wrong, and here is why [ insert commentary on education, comprehension, knowledge, etc]

And its funny you mentioned credibility attacks.. its a staple in his posts. You don’t make friends by basically saying “I’m right, because you are too dumb to be right”

You can still buy core, what are you on about?
It now comes with a free copy of HoT which you are under NO OBLIGATION to play.

What I am “on about” is in response to the poster who claimed GW was done in this manner.

And a minor correction, a stripped down Core is now the free game that comes with HoT, something that did not happen with GW, the point that I was making. You can still buy a full featured Prophecies without EOTN. You cannot buy a full featured Core game without HoT.

No issue for a new player who is purchasing a full game. I already payed full price for the Core game, and I do not feel HoT offers enough to justify paying the full game price again for content I already own. The actual content added is worth far less than a full game price.

Particularly when part of that content is something I already had, Guild Upgrades, that were taken away and needed to be repurchased. I’m not fond of that type of business model. It is something they have done a bit too often for me.

Well, that is enlightening. That is honestly your belief? There have been governments that felt that way. Governments that would not stand for negative criticism.

That is why protesters got lined up against a wall and shot at times, basically.

Oh, I’m not accusing you of that. It is a chilling statement, however.

There are some here that I disagree with, on every statement. I do not and have not asked for their removal. Nor have I reported every statement they make as a means to that end.

Ironically, negative criticism of another poster or group of posters is still negative criticism.

Also, Reddit mob rule does not a valid forum make. Any venue that can simply vote out minority opinion is suspect.

If you are losing money in WvW you are doing it wrong. Really wrong.

Meaning, you aren’t running in a Zergball.

If you buy upgrades, scout, small havoc, camp flips, make improved siege, you are losing gold anyway, and repair costs just add to it.

This attitude kills wvw, kills most individualism in game, kills addressing real issues.
One way or the highway does this game more harm than anything else, and it is really bad that it seems to be the semi official Anet policy as well.

If you think money is the reason people run in the zergball you need to take a reality check.

Respawn is an issue with high health veterans and nearby mobs. In the time taken to knock a veteran down, at level, solo, you will be fighting his companions at least one more time, possibly two. This is an issue at still points, particularly if you have to commune. Examples off the top of my head would be the skill point where you have to clear a Veteran Troll and Veteran Ooze close together in Gendarran, the Jotun Spirit skill point in Dredgehaunt, the Centaur necromancers cave in Kessex, etc.

The Jotun one is particularly annoying. He is surrounded, closely, by 6 random Jotun who don’t mind booting you into the one that didn’t aggro, the boss is tough (at level) and you will be fighting respawn adds, more if you take the time to pull and finish off the two jotun you can on the way in. There is just no breathing space. And that would be my summation of a lot of the game.. “no breathing space”

And to the guys that see no problems.. or want faster spawns… I knew you in GW1 I think. Didn’t you finish Proph solo, in presearing armor, with just Frenzy and Mending?

Life happens where “what I want to accomplish” meets “what I am capable of accomplishing.” As I get older, the two grow closer together and I learn more about my limits. I think that most of the people posting here are younger than I am, and still believe that people are capable of doing much more than they really are.

Pretty much on the mark here, I think. It’s one of the reasons I don’t post as much as I used too.

Depends on your build. I respecced all of my Youth and Vigor points into stubborness.

So the game is based on grinding.

The “no grind” philosophy means a new set of gear with higher stats wont be required every time new content comes out. It was broken once when ascended gear and fractals came out, which people hated, but by now they have either gotten used to it or quit. Raids do not break it as ascended gear is not required for them.

It also doesnt mean high end cosmetic items wont be expensive.

Guess this link needs posted again.

I play. Then I see the same bots in the same place doing the same thing I reported 29 days ago, and I post.

I play. Then after a couple of hours soloing events for little gain in mid level zones that seem abandoned, I post.

I would like to play without a plethora of unresolved annoying issues building up to vent point and posting.

Game design question concerning dodge

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teofa Tsavo.9863

Teofa Tsavo.9863

Movement and Dodge. Well, I just cleared a Dredge Commissar “event” out of one of the forts in Dredgehaunt, on a Warrior, solo. Not by clearing a gate, not by clearing mobs and fighting my way in, but by running in past all the aggro and circle stafing the Vet while outrunning the horde of enraged dredge and targeting of 6 or so cannon.

Engaging, realistic gameplay? Hardly.

Had I attempted that as a Warrior, in character as a war, using a Warriors signature melee weaponry I would have failed. Instead, winning by cheesy gimmickry is the norm.

Dodge and Movement as the ONLY mechanic is pretty fail. It forces a generic, artificial, unrealistic playstyle that while successful, leaves a foul taste in ones mouth.

Why do you play MMO’s if you don’t want to play multiplayer….. The dungeon is a great idea! if you want to play solo then go play Runescape

Thank you for the great illustration of the “my way or gtfo” attitude that, over the years, has led me to reject group play, with few exceptions.

is that why you dont have any friends to play 5 man content with? Because you hate everything.

And thank you as well for illustrating the point. I don’t like grouping, therefore I have no friends and hate everything. Oki doki.
PS. You forgot to say “go play _______”

in Flame and Frost

The OP is not overreacting from the perspective of an actual new player in a zone supposed to be for new players. Like Poster Moletti.

It is 10 am CDT. On Fort Aspenwood, the zone is empty. All periscopes were up and unkilled. This means a new, low level player IS gated from Twinspur Haven vista.. and if they damage that particular scope, most times it will spawn a Molten Vet. There is no way to get to this vista without engaging the scope.

If they attempt to do the Ram mission for Joffe, they will enter the aggro of a scope.. and have KD spam while attempting a hard boss for low levels. This scope also covers the road, and will KD spam players who are also being attacked by Svanir popups. No prob to an 80.. but the zone is supposed to be for a level 8 new player. This scope will also, often, spawn level 16 Moltens.. the area is 8.

Farther up, a scope will spawn in range of an escort mission. At the same place a svanir ambush drops down. If there are Molten spawn, they will aggro the escort as well.. along with the normal ambushers. Again, an issue for a new player of that level.

Doing Frozen Maw, the scope will be in range of players engaging the south shamans. That scope will also be in range of players doing the Grawl Shaman DE.

Placement of these scopes was not well thought out. They overlap into content designed for low levels, making that content much harder, or impossible, to do at that low level (not downleveled players).

I do not recall ever running past a world boss in GW1. I always engaged them, on the off chance that I could pick up a green.

I do run past champions in this game, as the chance of them dropping a blue and 4 copper is as rare as a Boss in GW1 dropping a green. I’d rather kill trash, thanks. Trash has a better drop rate, and that is sad.

[Suggestion] Option to rearrange skill bar buttons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teofa Tsavo.9863

Teofa Tsavo.9863

Saying this is needed because it was possible in GW1 is silly. I could explain the multitude of differences between the 2 skill systems and why the current GW2 skill placement just makes sense and is easily recognizable to any player, but I have the feeling nothing anyone would ever say to the OP would make a bit of difference.

Bottom line: The current skill placement is a design choice by the Devs and it’s pretty obvious they have no intention of changing that choice because your (possible OCD) situation makes you believe you need to change the keybinding (nothing wrong with that) and the skill images on the bar MUST match up.

Get over it, not gonna change.

One simple question. How would his skill bar customization effect your game, or any other players game in a negative manner? You would not even know, it would be client side. The skills themselves would not be affected.

It would be a simple QOL feature, client side. I really don’t understand the harsh reaction and hostility.

If you could add a profession of your choice

A true archer. The “ranger” class doesn’t feel like a true archer profession but instead feels like a “park ranger” class constantly having to run pet mechanics. I would like a true archer with no pet, utilizing different shots for situational control. CC through freezing shots and push shots, condition dmg through poison and fire arrows, evade with leap type acrobatics and maybe short stealth for escapes, but I would prefer no stealth in exchange for more dmg. A true archer would be a wet dream.

I don’t know you but I love you.

What he said.

Yes. A ranger, not a WoW hunter with a limited pet.
We could drop the pet in GW1 and most did.

The races of GW2 -- Elves, dummies!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teofa Tsavo.9863

Teofa Tsavo.9863

So because you get more hits from a word that has been used for hundreds of years in many different contexts than a word that comes from one game, it means charr are hated and everyone wants to include elves in GW2?

What do the most successful fantasy MMOs have in common? They had elves! People love elves. Remember EQ? And then WoW.

GW2 would have been better off not trying to be so original, and just stick with the races that people know and love. I’d guess that 80% of players dislike the Charr and Asura races. The Sylvari are not much better, although I suppose they are the closest you can get to an elf.

I don’t think you could have said anything more wrong. Many people are getting sick of Elves. Charr & Asura are 2 of the things that make this game great. Even if it’s just visual.

Interesting though. 30 year old NES junk is ecstatically raved about, but elves are no go. I find it very funny.

So take a hint & realize people are sick of them.

Why so hostile? I’m not the OP, didn’t suggest Elves ingame, and must have touched a nerve there. Take a hint, google Elves, google Charr, and get back to me on which is more popular overall.

Take a hint.. “you” are sick of them.

Again, I didn’t suggest Elves in game. The game has Sylvari, which are fae enough and pointy eared enough to more than fit the niche.

And where did you get all that? “it means charr are hated and everyone wants to include elves in GW2?” When did I state that, or imply that?

Like it or not, you have an Elf like race in game. One that did not exist in GW1. I would theorize that when Anet created a race out of thin air, that race having a resemblance to Elven types was not accidental, due to the popularity of such races in other games, popular literature, fantasy in general.

They even went so far as to include the classic dichotomy of good “elves” vs bad “elves” with the Nightmare Court, a concept ripped from the Unseely Court of Fae, elven and Faerlie Celtic mythology. (as well as the Wyld Hunt concept)

And why would I lobby for inclusion of Elves in this game, when, for all intents and purposes, they are already in.

I personally prefer a classy woman to a strip club dancer, just my personal taste though.

Really? So mere dress/appearance connotes classification/morality for you?

Does Tyria even have strip clubs, or even your personal hangups in general? Does Kryta have the same moralistic standards of rural alabama?

It is a fantasy construct world..let it have it’s own standards, leave the real world out of it.

If it passes the ESRB, deal with it.

Forcing players to complete dungeons = bad I think

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Teofa Tsavo.9863

Shrug. Anet can’t force me to do dungeons. I won’t do dungeons. Bluntly, after 10 years of various MMO’s and eternal DungeonFest in all games I hope to NEVER click a dungeon entry portal again.

I had, and still have some hope that they will keep the world engaging and fun. And maybe.. fix the drop rates of at least Champions and Vets.

I really don’t care. I would like to see some things not included in other spheres, PvP in PvE, mandatory Jump puzzles like scaffolds in Dredgehaunt to get a vista, but, its my game, I no longer care what I may be gated from, I am not doing anything I don’t find fun. My fun.

The only real “forcing” I am seeing is that loot drops in dungeons, and in the world they don’t seem to care that even Champions give 0 drops a majority of the time.
