My position is the same and the same teams/players out of a collectively small few is the inherent problem.
This game does nothing for viewers, especially watching the same players okay in every championship game. Anet has a lot to learn to make pvp mainstream and you’re not going to achieve that by having a barrier of entry and shotty game modes.
I love pvp as the next person but from an esports perspective, it falls well short of becoming relevant in the industry.
There’s literally nothing you can do to prevent it, only mitigate the attack. But I guess if someone really wanted to, they’d restrict all inbound requests and only leave open GW2/voice comms traffic when they play.
If you’re overly concerned then go purchase a VPN that market towards gamers.
Just delete Confusion dot and everything will be fine. Something like they did with Reaper chill dmg.
I’m assuming sarcasm but you realize that Confusion is the whole idea around (condition) Mesmer, right?
Magic Find is like religion – when you find something good you praise it but when you don’t, you cast it aside.
The real problem is not knowing exactly how it modifies the loot (other than adding a flat percent increase… to what, though?) roll because we just don’t know how loot is determined.
These new icons look terrible and a step back in the art department. I’d prefer the original icons but at least can you revert them back?
I have my doubts that the Mantra “bug” was actually a bug. I’m more keen on the idea that they put the recharge on charge in to live play test it and see how it worked.
Honestly, I don’t think we’re out of the woods yet with the nerfs. If history tells us anything, we’re due for more.
The stat boost, while controversial, is there to give the buff meaning in the context of the general WvW battle. Providing boosts like %WXP, etc. don’t have impact in fights against other sides, they are just a nice bonus for you. The stat boost and the points for finishing players mean that not only do you want to have the buff, but you don’t want your opponents to have it.
At no point did I, or would I have, said “Fair competition” WvW is not intended to be “fair”. There are servers with more people, there are servers with better organizations and that will always be the case. This competition will be about showing how your world can do over a defined period of time, against a variety of opponents. SPvP is the part of our game that aims for a completely level playing field. WvW would never be able to match that goal.
At least he’s holding true to his words and I’m guessing Devon has never stepped foot in WvW during his short tenure at ANet. I don’t really know what to say at this point.
100% “ranged” power DPS weapon/elite.
Goats are like mushrooms. If you shoot a duck, I’m scared of toasters.
They need to bring back the Mystic Forge and at crafter trainers/smith areas so we can at least be semi-productive while getting mats.
Coz ppl r bad
This is the most simplistic and accurate statement on why people complain about DHs. But people don’t know or realize they’re bad so when they die, it’s because they don’t understand and think something is when it’s not.
Until I see the actual specialization system and how it works, I’m still of the mind set that we’re going to be left behind other classes.
Pretty much point 3 is spot on.
Spawn doorbreakers, rush lord, bypass players, kill lord.
Yawn… next map please.
Stability counters the pull.
Oh I’ll just manage to have that the entire game on every class.
Stop being 5 for two minutes.
You said that there was no counter to DH pull to which I simply stated that stability protects you from being pulled.
Generally speaking, have a greater overall match awareness and don’t get tunnel vision that so many people get.
Colossal waste of time, not even remotely funny. Lacks originality.
Mike O’Brien is the executive produce of GW2 and president of ArenaNet.
What he said in the videos about “you’re the exception” and that people do other things outside of WvW just shows he doesn’t under his player base nor his game.
He’s a dollars guy in that he wants to see profits for GW2 and he uses PvE players as the driving force behind this game. Who’s more inclined to spend money on the gem store – pve players or wvw?
He looks at WvW as a theme park more or less in that players will jump in for a few and then go back to the world of Tyria.
With the massive stagnated WvW scene for the past three years, it’s a clear indication that there’s no room for a serious overhaul for WvW to be what RvR was/is. They released EoTM which is a good map but horrible executed. In fact, WvW in general is pretty badly executed as one poster pointed out (Menka? I forget his name).
When a GvG gets 1,000+ viewers that isn’t promoted by ArenaNet, then that’s a huge accomplishment and pretty telling about your WvW population.
Mike O’Brien’s hunch and protruding head from his shoulders and his ignorance towards what people do in GW2 is just insulting. He has no idea what this player base does nor wants and makes baseless claims on video reaffirming this.
I understand they want a casual game where someone can pick it up and play and jump right in but don’t mock or insult your players. Business 101.
If they hired a decent RvR designer and actually spent dev time implementing the proposed changes that you can find here and on Reddit, this game will be much better off for every player, regardless of what game mode they prefer.
Sure but it’s a bit strange that 1) no one has heard of the people who won and 2) neither them nor Abjured are here to dispute otherwise.
PvP balance is completely out of whack. But this is what we have to play with today and will just have to wait until the next expansion to see what broken elite specs are released.
I don’t want to speak for BlackDevil but what he’s getting at is that any build in low tier pvp is viable. But when people start to talk about it being the next big meta build by not participating in tournaments or higher level play, then he’s defending that Power Shatter is still the meta. Why? Because that’s where it has been played and shown to work.
The “evidence” that I’d imagine BlackDevil is looking for is tournament play. s/tPvP doesn’t mean much unless you’re in organized fights with quality players. Messiah’s video pointed this out pretty clearly that the players he went up against weren’t all that great. He could have used any build and the outcome would have been the same.
The problem I see here in the Mesmer forums is that people have these grand ideas and show footage of them dominating PvP but the quality of players they go up against is severely lacking. You want your build (MtD) to really shine? Join a team, join a tournament, perform well, and then you can start shifting the meta from Power Shatter to MtD.
I don’t see how you can compare extremely mobile FPS characters to a slow moving MMO character.
Lucio and Mercy have disengages and speed boosts.
FB… has nothing.
FB has the potential to be a good support elite but due to its inherent design by having everything on long cooldoens and cast times is going to restrict this elite from being viable in pvp.
Confusing Combatants will apply Confusion. I don’t see an ICD on it so whenever you or your illusions crit, you’ll apply Confusion – which if kept, is huge when used with Rabid.
Also, blinds and interrupts will cause Confusion as well.
They really did a good job in giving us access to more ways of applying Confusion and with the proposed traits, they want to have Confusion stick longer.
I’m still curious to see what the damage modifier we saw on Confusion was during the AMA. It showed the duration and tick but also showed a three digit number next to it so appear to have a semi-rework of Confusion to make it more punishable.
Add distance damage to catapults. Simple as that. The closer you are to a wall the less damage you’ll do if further away.
What’s funny is that people complain about lack of originality but this class is called Guardian.
It’s a name, people. Stop getting caught up in petty nonsense and focus more on the elite and its associated skills.
You get 3 pips for losing (4 for play, 5 for legendary) and 1 additional pip for top stats.
If you’re put on a team that has lackluster players but you do all the right things from rotating, reviving, supporting, and dealing damage, and get 5 top stats, that’ll mean you’ll get 8 pips for a loss.
To say that the effort you put in carrying a team goes unrewarded in a game is ridiculous. The pip reward system is a linear track that is meant to incentivize winning because you get gold and ascended shards quicker.
What should matter most is your rank as you gain for winning and right now it doesn’t feel rewarding when you do win and gain rank. But the pip system is nothing more than an experience bar that fills up for winning or losing which is perfectly fine.
Quickness is being changed to a boon.
The vertical/canopy zones are kind of uninteresting in my opinion. I know why they did it – get more for less, but I sure hope they don’t continue this approach almost exclusively for new zones. Other than that, HoT reinvigorated my interest in GW2 because it offered something different and fun and continues to do so.
This is the best update they’ve done in this game in a long time.
The old cheese meta of Celestial everything was gutted and now we have legitimate berseker builds that deal massive damage and don’t get the sustained survivability (minus eles). Playing berserker is now a high risk high reward style.
Rampage is extremely balanced and now worth taking for Warriors. It has so many counters that people fail to realize and just sit there and soak up the hits.
As stated in another thread, this is just a pure learn to play issue from the negative posts here and people need to learn to adapt. People want their broken celestial damaging/bunker build(s) back but that was the worst thing to have ever happened to the game that literally took no skill.
Now what we have here is a well balanced game that offers more different play styles than ever before… which are all viable.
Necro did get nerfed. But Mesmer got buffed.. soooo.. yea
Yup Mesmer was already the best 1v1 duelist and now………..its even better! ROFL
Expect to see full mesmer teams in season 3
Except you won’t. Mesmer wells were buffed alongside Scepter that no one uses in pvp. Sword is still the better option and that was untouched (main hand).
The only thing of significance to Mesmer that was buffed was Flow of Time which granted .75 seconds of alacrity per illusion shattered to 1 second of alacrity per illusion shattered. Hardly a game breaking buff that will make people swarm to Mesmer.
From someone who lives in NA east coast, I just wish we had more NA coverage.
Not gonna lie, I thought it was funny.
I think you should stop thinking. Moa is already hard countered by blocks, blinds, and dodges.
Any major update, you better believe they’re doing regression on their current feature set. I don’t really take your word on this matter as you clearly have no real world experience in the matter.
They do not do a full regression on every patch as it’s not needed. Based on their major releases (next tier version), that’s when they do them. Again, basing this off of my real life experience, they do perform standard regression on their feature set with patches and full regression on major updates. That’s the standard for agile which I can make a very good assumption that’s method they’re using.
Him saying what he said just verbally reinforces how the EU season is going. There’s no reason to try and like he said, they’re off focusing on other games.
You people need to stop putting these players on different pedestals. At the end of the day, they’re just looking to make a few extra bucks.
Man, what is with this carebear society that I live in nowadays? Back in my day that stuff was expected, warranted, and you move on and show them up next time.
Terrible idea. Also consider that Guardians have baseline condition cleanse with Resolve and can gain additional condition cleanse from trait.
I bet it was fun growing up with the OP and that he turned out to be a hoot to live with.
No Mesmer ever takes Compounding Celerity (move faster for each active illusion) as it requires you to be in combat.
Anyways, the Scepter 1 and 2 I’d like to see updated. Scepter 1 speed and the completely counter of straffing to dodge it need to be updated. Scepter 2 I still want to see as a symbol.
Sword 2 needs to add a cripple or chill effect.
Sword 3 would be great if we weren’t rooted in place for the full duration and didn’t count as a projectile. At least make us move at the speed of GS Whirling Wrath.
And lastly, making JI a ground targeted skill like the rest of the teleports in this game.
They’re completely different from the original tomes. How about you actually read into them first before making such silly posts?
You are missing the point, I know they are different. What I mean is that the new elite spec is not exactly introducing a new feature for the Guardian, but rather bringing back an old feture that was removed from them.
You’re clearly missing the whole point because they’re only back in name and not by functionality.
F2 needs some sort of counter play. It’s fine as it is today.
Not surprising the punishment here is just a mere slap on the wrist. I honestly expected more and harsher punishments.
Once again not a single Spirit Weapon change… this is beyond a joke at this point.
And yet more Signet buffs no one asked for… signets still suck ArenaNet.
Are the devs even trying? Are they listening? This is embarrassing.
The joke on you is thinking Spirit Weapons would ever get changed to be viable.
Times change and along with that, so does the game. It’s not necessarily dumbing down the ability but rather opening up other alternatives to different game modes. Now there’s no doubt that they’ve designed certain abilities to excel in different game modes and maybe SoE doesn’t belong in PvP but it’s at least worth having a discussion on.
We’re expected to shatter our illusions more often so that is a little contradicting the healing utility. But that seems to be there inherent risk vs reward. Then again, it does have a fairly high base heal amount and the healing every three seconds for total HPS is nothing to scoff at but it’s every three seconds where every second does count.
With the passive of 980 with 3 illusions every three seconds, that’s 326 per second heal. In pvp, you’re not having 3 illusions out to make the HPS worthwhile.
Consider this: Changing the interval to every one second and adjusting the heal per illusion is:
3 illusions – 326
2 illusions – 220
0,1 illusion – 114
Firebrand Mantras
Firebrand in general.
Your grawl impression is really coming along.
If they keep getting 3k viewers then their e-sports is going to die so quick.
They don’t really understand that you just don’t throw money at something and have it fix itself automatically. There’s so much wrong with pvp in this game that I can’t really see how they’re going to sustain giving out money to what looks to be an apparent financial loss.
There really are no surprises in PvP as to who is good, which teams are playing at the current top tier, and getting a sense as to who will be in the finals.
Not saying that Jeff and his team is the be all end all but going up against these completely rando’s is highly suspect in itself. Obviously at this point, nothing is 100% but adding to the pile of “stuff” with Ben’s announcement and Jeff’s video, and Abj/random pvers not defending themselves with at least one post has that needle pointing hard at guilty.
I have no hand in this whatsoever as I don’t participate in the ATs but if they’re just handing out dishonor to these people then they have every incentive to do this next time. Hell, I’ll take $400 to play on someone’s account and win if it meant useless game dishonor.
That’s all.
Dodge the initial pull. Not entirely hard to do and it has a travel time.
Don’t expect any major changes to the fundamentals of the class.
I can see another ranged option in either a longbow or shortbow. If some of the images mean anything then we could potentially see spear/shield combination.
Time will tell, though. I hope they release class specializations in the coming weeks with previews!
