So, apart from the fact that I can hardly understand why a 6th place in GOLD league is worth less that 1st-5th in SILVER (compare that with sports?), isn’t it worth questioning why the US Gold league 6th gets the same reward as the EU 6th – a league which has 3 further spots? This reward system is so really not that convincing, nor is the ranking system: After 9 weeks 2×3 Servers have exactly the same amount of points. Great way of measuring success and differentiating between the servers! GJ!

Deso need to forget SFR and focus BB or they have a good chance of coming last this week. BB look the more likely to take 2nd at the moment.

SFR at the moment are just defending what we have. As long as we are ticking above 200 we are not a threat to either Deso or BB… the problem will be the same as last time… an attack on our garrison again will wake us up and whoever did it will come last because we will shift all our focus against them.

Leave our border alone and our side of the ebg alone and we will be content to let Deso and BB battle it out for 2nd place. Poke the tiger and we will awake.

Tournament: Anyone else burned out?

I enjoy WvW, but 9 weeks is way too long considering what the rewards are. I think the tournament is a gap-filler until new content is finished. I’m on SFR and as it stands now we have already won first place, but the rewards don’t really excite me. If we didn’t get a 1-3 placement I wouldn’t feel particularly disappointed.

First place (for me) = 1 New weapon skin (exotic) and 1 ascended accessory.

Hardly anything to write home about. The rewards are poor even for first place. They didn’t even make the grand weapon prize ascended quality. All of the prizes are pretty much a joke, considering it’s a tourney. So my advice is don’t get burnt over this, it just isn’t worth it.

I understand that you don’t want people to know that hacks exist so I’ll not mention them specifically.

However what you want and reality are two different things. Most people know they exist, yet the problem never is addressed and has gotten progressively worse.

The very sad thing about this is that it is EXTREMELY easy to catch these people.

How do you catch these people?

1.) You allow a person to be marked as a hacker by another player.
2.) You filter that players connection and track its communications.
3.) You analyze the data to see if there are tell tale signs of hacking such as:

a.) moving too fast.
b.) Swapping weapons too soon.
c.) z axis
d.) using skills before they are ready
e.) using skills in too quick a manner (20 hits in 1 millisecond for example)

4.) False reports result in a +1 day ban from reporting.

If this is done there will be no hacking as the checks are server side and will be 100% detectable.

Some hacks will still exist but the game breaking ones will go away.
The display issue hacks are even detectable via false data sent to a client with a GM’s supervision.

I have just told you one method you could use to address the hacking issue.
Does Anet have any plans to do anything about it and if so what?

Notice if you did the above you could tell hackers exactly this and they could not get around it. The problem is that NO…checking is being done now and the server simply does what the client tells it.

BTW: I am a professional software engineer, if your folks can’t do the above I can.

Hi all

First of all…not sure if I should place here this sugestion since its a wvw related BUT at the same time i thought here would be the best place since this is not a wvw discussion but in fact a GW2 discussion and since there’s more suggestions topics here Im creating this one too.

So what i was been thinking was nothing much than a small icon that everyone could get like the small icon of the title “Been There, Done That” that could show to our allies our ranks…i mean this cause it would be nice to show our ranks, BUT when i said before that EVERYONE could get it (the icon) i mean only AFTER achieve the Bronze rank…I’ve done some quick examples of what i mean.

Hope you guys like the suggestion

I feel like allowing these to be thrown in the Mystic Forge for a random, new Superior Rune/Sigil would be good for the economy. The prices of the most useless Superior Runes/Sigils would increase, and the prices of the most demanded ones would decrease.

We wouldn’t sigh when the Soulbound runes/sigils—an exotic drop!—landed in our inventories in dungeons, as we do now—only able to vendor them for ~2 silver.

It would mirror the existing situation with armor/weapons (Exotic armor/weapons can be combined for a new Exotic).

Any economy reasons for why this isn’t allowed?

the dead people spying is an annoying tactic too, your dead you can’t see anything. I say auto rezz the dead player after 5 seconds at the closest waypoint.

Trait template is almost out of the question now that ANet are selling those re-trait gizmos on the TP.

They wanted to make it inconvenient enough for you to buy them, ergo, no templates/presets whatever you want to call them.

They can just sell “build slot” tabs in the hero’s panel for a marker up price. Once bought you can assign a build to it which you can swap out at lets say 10s(marked up from class trainer) anytime you want. But if you want to change any of the tab then you need to go t oa class trainer or have the gizmo bought to retrait those.

I would not mind paying premium for this feature, and I think Anet would make a good chunk of change from a lot of players this way as PvEers and WvWers love to change specs more than they do their underwear.

I am curious if others would be interested in this as an upgrade.
Adding food and buff items to the hero panel seems more natural to me than pulling them from the inventory. In fact I have an odd habit of hitting H now when I want to apply food or sharpening stones.

If my sharpening stones were with my armor and weapons in the H panel, they’d be easier to find instead of hunting through my rapidly filling inventory in the middle of a dungeon or WvW match.

Even better might be a small consumable bag off to the side somewhere simular to the wallet but—again—added to the hero panel.

I’m interested in the forums thoughts. Also, what do others do with their food to make it easy to get to?

Is anyone else here FINALLY excited to have a serious content update? Think about it…

  • Flame and Frost: Russian mole people, can’t take that seriously even if the plot was supposed to be serious
  • Lost Shores: kind of serious, but you’re fighting a bunch of crabs for tourist privileges
  • SAB: Nope
  • Dragon Bash: Nope
  • Cutthroat Politics: Nope
  • Bazaar: Nope
  • Queens Speech: Somewhat serious, but having Briar as the villain and cut scenes like where Faren tries to save the queen made it goofy again.
  • Twilight: Can’t really take Scarlet Briar seriously…she’s the comedy relief as well as the main bad guy so meh.

But FINALLY after seeing the new video it seems like we’re finally having a serious content update. The content they’ve been adding has been great, but all the cheese they pack into it is getting absolutely ridiculous… For once I’d like to feel like I’m actually in an RPG and not a cartoon. Here’s hoping that they keep the mood dark through this one.

I have some constructive criticisms I’d like to post about the achievements in Season 1.

This is not a discussion about server performance, queues or anything other than the actual achievements.

I’m a regular WvW player but not someone who lives in there, or never goes in there except for monthlies. I hope my perspective is balanced.

Here’s a summary of the actual achievements and then my observations on the system as a whole…

Advanced Mists Defender: 450 kills. The monthly is 50. The Season is ~2 months long. So, about 4-5 times more kills are needed to achieve in WvW. I don’t really have a problem with this as fifty is essentially one or two zerg v zerg battles and 450 kills in 2 months is very doable. Maybe the monthly needs looking at?

Big Spender: OK, fine way to introduce people to the WvW laurel vendor and remove some badge bloating from the economy.

Camp Crusher: 100 camps. I’ve done ~1000 in a year. 2 months for 100 seems OK if a little high. 75 may have been more in line.

Castles in the Air: 5 Stonemist captures. Again, a bit too high and it assumes/insists you play EBG a lot. Some guilds & people specialise in the borders. 1 (token) or 3 would be more reasonable.

Demolition Expert: 30 walls/gates. Apart from the fact it appears to be bugged. Why on earth would I kick a treb/cata/ram expert off just to get this achievement? I’m an AC specialist for siege. Helping with DPSing them down should be fine but it seems to be at 0/30 despite taking down a dozen doors over the weekend.

Guard Killer: 500. Just a side achievement for doing the rest – I’m not sure if it’s a fair amount til I’ve done the ‘real’ stuff

Leapers in the Mists: No. Please, just no. What have JP’s got to do with WvWvW? ~25% of all WvW achievements for JPs?? One would have been ample as an introduction to WvW JPs – any more is just…wrong :p

Master of Ruins: 50. So, if I take one+ ruin per day for the next 7 weeks I’ll just about get the achievement. Too many. Ruins players will have this in a few days, everyone else will have to take time out of having fun just for an over-extended achievement.

Mist Merc Camps: 50. A PvE achievement….and 50 times. I’m crying here. Too many, wrong game mode. I think it’s fine to nod in their direction with a ‘Take Ogres a few times’ achievement…but 50?!?

No Tower Too High: 30. Perfect. Weekend WvWers can get this done with some solid play.

Defense Restorer: 500 is too high IMO. Will just lead to people wasting precious supply on walls that are being trebbed etc.

Sentry Capture: 225. Too high. That’s nearly 5 a day every day of the season.

Supplies Severed: 225. Too high. That’s nearly 5 a day every day of the season.

The Keeps: 10. Perfect.

World Ranker: 50. Or 125,000 wxp. Yuck. This seems too high. Maybe an attempt to get more badges spent.

So, overall not great when individually analysed. But, as a system I think it is a far bigger failure…

15/19 Ach required (79%). Too high in itself. WvW has many specialists. Specialists in different maps, in building up places and dolly escort, in various siege types, in camp/sentry capping, in ruins fighting etc. Having to fulfil 79% of all modes (including just plain non-WvW activities like JPs and Merc camps) is wrong IMO.

Next systemic failure: Tying achievements to arbitrary amounts and not the dailies…

My suggestion would be: if you want people to log in regularly even if only for a small amount then dailies are great e.g. instead of cap 100 camps, do the camp daily for 10 days.

Tying dailies to the Living World has worked really well in PvE to get the required number of achievements, but you’ve failed to use this great system in WvW achievements. I believe that this is a mistake and this first season is going to feel like a horrible grind to do elements that players do not want to do.

Last point on how the system fails IMO…

What about the already existing WvW ‘achievements’? I really thought these would be reworked and people could get some retroactive acknowledgement of their activity levels in WvW. One title at 250,000 is a bit silly and this was ripe for utilising properly rather than ignoring.

Summary (or the TL,DR bit)
- Systemic failure of WvW achievements:
- They should be based on dailies, not arbitrary amounts
- They don’t allow for the specialisations which have grown up in WvW – everyone is forced to put in some proper hours into every element of WvW
- What about all the achievements people already have which have never been acknowledged?

Let me start this off by saying i am not playing on a “stacked” server, I am playing on the server ranked #8th in the silver league EU (Far Shiverpeaks), The guild i am in are a WvW focused guild and I have always been a WvW player. Since the beginning of the season my guild and I haven’t been able to play WvW because of ridiculous queue times. These achievements have caused WvW to become flooded with achievement hunters. These people have had a year to try WvW and now they suddenly want to do it because of some AP’s. The real WvW players can’t even play the game because they’re stuck in queues, I don’t care if you call me elitist but Anet you should be adding some sort of system so people who have been playing WvW can actually play it.

You clearly have no clues ricoh, if you think having played just only 3 months with the thief is enough to think that the currrent thief design is ok as they are.

I play the thief since release of the game, played with it mainly PvE and WvW and especially in WvW you really are kitten with no skills that have a range of 1200 and you are utterly completely USELESS as thief for any kind of defending places like towers/keeps, whereas rangers with their longbow skills are very helpful as like too and all other classes that have long range skilsl with 1200er range and also don’t have problems with their skill animations of shooting their arrows just into the stupid wall curb in front if them, when they target an enemy at shoot at them, because the longbow mysteriously has a better shooting angle animation, than the short bow so that they can shoot at enemies without any problems of wasting attacks/time due to bugged arrow collision controls in WvW.

Its only the thief, that has no single 1200er range skill and that is just plain unbalanced and needs to get changed.
Best with the implemention of Longbows for thiefs and as said a pistol trait to increase their range from 900 to 1200. Best done by fusing that effect together with one of the other mostly underpowered/useless traits.

The only weapon with 1200 range the thief has, are the harpoon guns, but thiefs totally suck anyways in underwater combat compared to all other classes due to a massive lack in AoE-Skills, bad melee skills, basically no stealth there and half of their utility skills all not being usable instantly, as also no trait effects, that seriously make thiefs in underwater combat better, while other classes also have traits, that work for them in underwater combat to improve their skill recharges ect…

The thief is seriously a complete game mechanic fail and needs a redesign and the only thing in which this class currently shines the most in is in dealing high burst damage and the ability of perma stealth, what is at the moment the only real thing, that makes this whole class dangerous, but also extremely predictable for any kind of SMART player who fights against them that has the ability also to stay under damage pressure cool, when being surprised to perform quickly the right counter skills that force the thief to flee or brign them to the point to need to reset the fight through stealth to get a chance to try to get again the upperhand in the fight through some high critical damage bursts with a backstab that hopefully hits hard enough to end the battle quickly with either another backstab or critical heartseekers.

65 skill points of game time is nothing. Come back, when you have like 800-1000 Skill Points of gameplay experience with the thief, then we can discuss this further

Just telling other people to change the class when they want more range is no solution at all, this is just a childish argument per se… sorry to say that, but thats my honest opinion.

It is unusual and really makes absolutely no sense that a Thief’s shortbow range is shorter than that of any other class that uses the shortbow.

Put the range back to equal distance as other shortbow using classes. I noticed that with my thief’s 1 attack on a shortbow, I have to get closer to the target while another class using a shortbow (and I verified that this ranger was using a shortbow) was further behind me.

Put it back. I think many shortbow thiefs would appreciate it. Just the regular 1 attack range please.

Granted, you may have some issue into finding what to do, but you won’t regret it.

Lol, ive ignored all of the living story except for the temporary dungeons they have added. The LS is just a way for them to introduce more stuff into the gem store. Nothing more, nothing less.

Being serious, the OP is making a pretty silly generalization. His generalization is based on the assumption that legendary owners farmed all day and night and suck at doing everything else. What he doesn’t realise is that,

A. people didn’t farm day in day out.
B. Time played actually does has a relationship with player skill. In general more time = more experience = more skilled (unless you’re a bad apple).
C. Everything is puggable.

To finish off, your view of legendary people being bad players who don’t know how to play as a group is as bias and racist as me assuming you’re American because you are typing in english though I probably have a better chance of being right than your legendary stereotyping lol.

Dungeons can give up to 40g/hour.

We’re talking typical, not “I got a lucky drop” runs. A die-hard 4H tour will be 8g cash plus token/ecto conversion (maybe 2~4g). That’s not a normal dungeon effort, though. Normal includes time for breaks between runs, recruiting, etc.. Including Arah in the tour ups that number, but then also greatly increases recruiting effort (I wouldn’t bring more than one pug on an Arah run).

40g/h as a typical repeatable number for dungeons seems absurd to me after the dungeon-spamming nerf. If you’re not simply trolling, you’ll have to back that up with at least a general methodology.

In one respect this is good to not know. Because you can’t just kick someone because of their choice of weapon, like you alluded to wanting to be able to do.

This is a different topic, but I would like a way to judge whether a player is suitable for grouping or not. The ideal would be a way to tell what their stats currently are; ie. are they zerk or pvt, what’s their actual AR, etc..

The legendary as a “gold grubber” item is simply unfortunate. If it had been done with grouping required, it could have been a useful indicator. Now, it’s not. Would you have preferred it to be a sign of skill or as it’s become, a sign of grind?

I should have titled this post “Inverted Risk/Reward” and left the legendary comparison as a side-note or not mentioned it. I think I’ve arranged for the truly important point to be conveniently ignored. ><

I want to thank Arenanet for Tyria. Just Tyria, the world. Though the big things get most of the attention (the main cast, the personal story, the loot, the economy) I want to show my appreciation for the little things.

What blew me away when I first started going through this content, a year ago, were details that most people might not even see or care about. That proved to me the people who made this, loved this.


the player character, Demmi and Tybalt ambushes Commander Langdon. I loved how when everything was over, Tybalt would go into the small tent, take out a bucket of water and put out the flaming apple barrels one by one.

I did ‘Victory or Death’ with a friend and a bug happened (I got my storyline reward but he did not, and it only appeared after we exited the instance). Not knowing that, we stayed in the instance trying to figure it out. If that bug did not happen, we would have completely missed Woznack the Wonderful.

I love how moas can be seen roaming in flocks. I love how wild life attack each other for food. I’m very curious about the ghost cat at Plains of Ashford. I love the pipe organ in Ebonhawke. Maklain the Minstrel ending up at Meddler’s Summit. I love how all the Risen retreat into the sea just before Tequatl appears. The Dolyak graveyard in Harathi Hinterlands (and the grandfather and child talking there). Idle NPCs (both enemy and friendly) talking. The chicken named ‘Dinner’ at Nagaling that you can catch and give to the old soldier. I love how as you progress through your personal story, (though I only did Charr so far) your warband members and the allies you’ve gathered can be found in various places around your home instance.

Sometimes NPCs can be spotted running around with no event marker and nothing special. If one were curious and followed them, more often than not an event would trigger. A lot of the dialog I liked to hear can be pretty hard to catch because they happened when the event started before there were any map notifications.

I even love the messenger birds each time you get mail.

And if you’re an Order of Whispers agent, even better! (though it has now made me try talking to every NPC I see)

All the references like:
“Can I has cheesy meat?”
“By Odgen’s Hammer, what savings!”
The end boss death in Sorrow’s Embrace, story path.
The chickens in Ebonhawke. I think I found out about this one in the best way (i.e. stumble onto someone else discovering it)

I’ve probably forgotten about alot I would have liked to mention.These little touches are appreciated all the more since I come from MMOs where their worlds, by comparison, are extremely dead or robotic. It makes me wonder how many of these falling-trees-in-the-forest I was not there to hear. I hope the developers are not discouraged by how these are not oft-talked about.

Its one year on and I still keep finding them. I want it known that we do see these and I would love to learn of more.

So, the ascended weapons also dropping as a “Chest of Stat X, click me to turn me into any weapon you want with Stats X” is being ignored in this conversation?

I’m guess the new chests will be account bound also, but that’s just part of a general theme that being a master of the TP doesn’t mean you are entitled to the best of absolutely everything…
