He could always get on the forum himself and post his reasons for leaving if he wanted to discuss it. I’m not going to listen to a video posted here by someone else, then debate his reasons without him as the OP to discuss or defend his point of view.

This is a cool idea. I’d also like to see a home instance airship cargo. Airship parts are the worst to obtain.

???

How? You get them out of the cargos. They are all over the map in VB and the map events just give out crowbars like crazy unlike the Keys or Chak Acid. Airship parts are the easiest currency to acquire by far.

this is quite a confusing thread, it talks about role play, but gear and grinding and raids and fractal rewards (eh?) has nothing to do with role play. what matters is immersion, graphics, music, idungeons with a story and a nice look and feel, social features, emotes etc.

Meta refers to the large event on a map that people do once they’ve finished all the pre-req events beforehand. As they are large group events, his point is they would be difficult to solo.

Maps can have meta events and still include soloable content and even other soloable events. Core Tyria maps did this very well – plenty of solo content and a large meta world event for those that want to group up.

(Strange use of Meta by the way)
But there are never enough people on the maps to do them, so the content sits there pretty much useless just to appeal to a small minority that may or may not want to do them?

The rest just ignore the content and move on, because they have no choice.

I see people doing the Hirathi Hinterlands meta every time I’m in the map. Same with other maps, say….Silverwastes.

I don’t think all meta content is ‘useless’. Probably just depends on the map, and who’s there.

Read the patch notes on Tuesday. Mr. O’Brien sees no reason to talk and promise before something actually ships. Maybe if we’re lucky the patch notes will be up in time to read them before the patch finishes loading.

I don’t blame him. This community screams bloody murder no matter what he tries to do.

Someone will always scream bloody murder on a balance patch, there is no win there ever for the devs.

Maybe they are moving the raid portal out of VB so that people hanging out preparing for a raid don’t take up space in a map where players are trying to do events. I have seen several complaints since the raid was released about players waiting to raid taking up space in VB.

That’s what I was thinking, too.

That’s a good point but isn’t it kinda a bad idea to promote it on their Facebook if it’s just them moving the portal entrance?

Okay, you had your little rant against what you seem to see as unjustified criticisms, how about actually trying to explain WHY this apparently arbitrary and player-hostile limitation is actually based on TECHNICAL reasons when no other game I play (or I expect most others play) has anything like this alleged design flaw.

Other games you play don’t have trading posts, they have simplistic auction houses that allow inflation to ruin the game’s economy.

Because this game has a robust economy, it requires a significantly more complex trading system, which by it’s very nature is going to be subject to more technical limitations as a result of trying to do a lot more.

Here is, more or less, what the Devs stated about PTRs in the latest AMA:

‘We’ve experimented with public test servers and there are two problems for us: 1) much of our stuff is story driven, and not suitable for a public test server; and 2) the results from play patterns don’t match what we see later on live. Instead, we developed a system we used for HoT where we can beta test characters and maps on the Live servers with a cute little personal sandbox that surrounds beta characters. We will be exploring using that tech more so we can do public-test-server-like things but in the live game, so we get real useful results back.’

There are a lot of bugs in this game which could be easily avoided if there was more testing.

And I’m fairly certain Santa’s my uncle. Point is, there arent. More testing doesnt mean you’re going to be able to fix those bugs in any sort of quick fashion. If you’re an older player of the game, you’ll know how it was possible to bug teq by “overburning” it’s health, causing it to fly away and never come back. Now, however, it goes invulnerable to PREVENT that bug from happening. It took them, I believe…. 4 iterations of “fixes” for them to actually quash that bug. You know why that bug wasnt discovered earlier in the game’s life? Because there are some bugs that dont show up unless you have extremely specific circumstances- such as a group of 120-150 people organized on Teamspeak pounding on teq so hard it farts kittens. Such a group would be capable of inflicting faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar more damage than a typical “pug map” can due to being so organized.

There wont be a PTS. There doesnt NEED to be one. I can tell you right now, from having played several games with PTS available, no one actually uses them for their intended purpose. They use them to figure out the best way to profit off the changes, not find bugs.

Hi all,

Two weeks ago I posted that we were starting integration and final testing for the Spring Quarterly Update. It’s been two busy weeks. The quarterly update is through QA and looking good. We’re going to announce the release date tomorrow.

As we prep for release, you’ll notice that we’re not doing the series of advance blog posts that we had done for some prior releases. Hopefully that’s not too surprising; I’ve written a few times since taking this role that I think our job is to delight you with what we ship, not with talk and promises.

With everything prepped now, let’s have some fun together and see some hints of what’s coming, and then we’ll see you in the game on release day.

Excellent timing Mike, I was just going to request an update!

I have to say I like this change in communication, regular, to the point and informative of what is going on.

Things YOU know as facts:
1. I can buy unlimited items off the Tp without any server limitations- FALSE
2. I can pick up unlimited items into my inventory from the TP without any server limitations – FALSE
3. I can set arbitrary buy order prices at unlimited speed without server limitations. – FALSE
4. Doing any of these things in reverse (selling) causes an error to pop up – what?
Things devs have stated as facts in the past:
-series of random ad hominems that clearly make your points more valid…right?

Just because you don’t see the technical implementation of some aspects of the systems doesn’t mean it’s magic.

Do you really need to be so condescending about it?

Even if he WAS being condescending (And I don’t feel like he was in truth. Atleast no more than was deserved due to the assumptive nature of the post hes responding to) the forums have shown that that attitude is the only one players actually respond too.

When they try to be uber polite they are often looked down on by the very people who have been demanding answers. (Perhaps the fact that they are DEMANDING answers is a sign?)

But John Smith in particular has a good bit more respect on the forums precisely because he doesn’t always take peoples kitten.

If people are talking out of there kitten they need to be shut down. Whether it be a player or a developer. Because on a public forum misinformation can be spread like fact. Even if it has no basis in reality.

I understand customers being kitten, its everywhere me included when i’m upset but i figured Developers were professionals and well were supposedly on another level etc.

Aren’t they suppose to be polite to their customers either way, honestly talking down to them doesn’t help at all and well imo no wonder the forums so hostile to them..

I am sorry, but this is exactly the attitude that makes people be intolerable kittenbags towards employees and then expect them to still be friendly and helping. If a customer is a condescending kittenbag it is only deserved when they are shown their place.

So the issue clearly isn’t technical.

Despite the redname post above.

I’ll stick with the facts over the red posts, thanks though.

Calling John a liar and giving themselves expert level above those actually working with and on the system is just stupid and John’s answer is simply on point. Kudos to John!

And seriously, the biggest limitation there is to buying and selling is the limit of 250 units for any single purchase. If that isn’t an indicator, what is?

Edit: And how would ZudetGambeous.9573 even come to the conclusion that they could pick up an unlimited number of items from the TP at once? There is a maximum of 100 stacks per pick up process iirc.

Don’t use the waypoints if you prefer running from place to place.

Stop saying this, you know the OP cannot do this. The whole game content is build about the fact you can TP instantly around the world. The event boss need TP and dungeons arent enough rewarding for the time you would need to travel to them.
I totally agree with the OP, but sadly I think it would need too much change.

No, we won’t stop saying this, because forcing EVERYONE to conform to a small groups idea of what an “adventure world” should be is absolute horsekitten. You don’t like playing a game where teleporting is an option? Then don’t let the door hit your kitten on the way out. The rest of us will happily continue to use waypoints as they exist in GW2.

I remember a game I played some time ago, where I was placed in this massive world that was just waiting for me to explore it. I started running and exploring and it feelt like a never ending world. But was it really? No of course not. Was it huge? Maybe, but compared to other games not that amazing. So what made it feel so big and massive? Well I remember looking at the map and said “I want to go there”. So I did, I walked all the way over there, it took some time but it was worth it because that place had something new and unique for that part of the map.

Surely, you think, it must get annoying having to walk everywhere and that was true to some extent. Walking and riding was the primary way of transport. But then there were taxis, where, for a small sum you could get tranportation from one city to another. That took some time aswell, you still had to move all the way to your destination, but at a faster rate. I specially remember the train, yes the train. There were an in-game train with a trainstation and timetable for transport between citys.

My point is that even if there were a vast amount of different transport possiblitys none included teleportation. There were teleportaion but under strictly limited use. The fact that if you wanted to go somewhere you hade to actually go there and that gave substance and a feeling of how big the world actually were. In gw2, that feeling does not exist. Even if the world is massive there is no feeling of scale or size. Teleporting to where ever you want when ever, takes away that feeling of size. For example, who ever uses the portals thats placed here and there in gw2? No one, because it’s just faster and simpler to open your map and klick where you want to go.

I don’t think it’s too much to ask if gw2 removed all waypoints IF they were replaced with alternatives like hot air balloons, azura trains, sylvari ships or char subways and of course azura portals. It should of course be easy to travel, and it should not take a huge amount of time. Would it not be sensible to offer some of the overwhelming amount of convenience currently in the game for a bit more substance? Would it really hurt if it took 2 minutes to travel from divinitys reach to black citadel in a hot air balloon or the ship from lions arc to the groove?

I am for doing away with way points. In my opinion, they are one of several systems that take the feeling of adventure out of the online world.

This was the way MMORPGs used to be (and were the best times I had playing online games)

Do the rest of us a favor and stop trying to take away things that are helpful to the rest of us just because it hurts your subjective immersion.

No I wouldn’t. The fact that these are recolours is the reason these were great prestige items.

I have no desire to stop other players from getting cool skins, which is why it was great that everyone could get the blue and orange ones. The green and yellow skins weren’t “better” than the ones that casual players could get, they just had more prestige. Everybody won.

This was the perfect system, and ANet just killed it for no apparent reason.

I honestly believe that if you think that recolors is/are your greatest choice for prestige, you need to rethink your wants for this game, because you’re low balling your expectations hard. In a game where stats are normalized and literally skins are the only thing that make a difference at end game, you should be asking for more, not less. Complaining about these particular skins instead of something larger is by far a mistake in my opinion, and we as a community (and as customers) should have higher expectations of what we pay for.

I’m going to say these things in response to this, though:

1. There is no perfect system. In your system, people are discluded for the sake of “prestige”, which could be a means of saying “look how hard I worked to get this” while at the same time being just as much “I’m better then you because I have something you can’t get”. Because of this, there is no system which can be all-inclusive and yet individualized at the same time.

2. The system is literally one small bit of code away from being the same as nearly every other system in the game in terms of what can and cannot be sold as a service by other players. Anet decides what their preferred system is, and while the players have influence, the almighty $ speaks louder than words to a business.

3. Reflect upon what you just said — you said you have no intent to stop people from getting skins, but then you explicitly stated that you want to have prestige skins that aren’t available to everyone (as so many people see the color as being equivalent to status and a unique skin in its own right). Is this not contradictory?

I usually don’t take the time to comment on these, but I was interested in giving some perspective based from someone who sells runs, rather than buys them or does them all on my own. I am in the rare spot of being between the two areas (Prestige versus exploit, in this instance) in that I legitimately earn my own items, yet give the opportunity to others. Consider this an opportunity to ask questions, give critiques, or insult if that’s what you wish — but I did want to comment on this.

It seems many people are distraught at the idea that Anet would allow this “exploit” to happen and thus devalue in game what are otherwise “prestigious” skins and items that should only be earned by people who, well, earn it. Here’s a few things to keep in mind about the whole ordeal though:

-Anet has said that things like selling raid, dungeon, LS, or most other paid runs in game to be okay in their eyes. The idea of selling SAB runs is essentially the same, the only difference being the coding that was intended to be restrictive of allowing people to be added to a group after it has begun. That is the one difference between the selling runs of other content. This is not to say it isn’t an exploit, however, there’s more to be said.

-Aside from skin color, there is nothing unique about items — not shape, not size, not stats, not agony infusion. All these items are able to be gained through other means.

-The skins are recolors of skins that are already in game. If you’re asking for prestige items, why would you think and/or want the most prestigious thing in game to be a simple recolor of an item you can get? Wouldn’t you want something more than that?

-For some people who are selling runs (as I am), this is a means of getting a decent income of gold through the game doing content we would have already done, and thus makes the reward of doing the runs feel more worthwhile. Additionally, it allows some players the ability to use skill to gain money and somewhat catch up with the rediculous prices of many items in this game (cough amalgamated gemstones cough) without A. Spending real money of their own, or B. resorting to spending ungodly and utterly rediculous time spent grinding to get skins we desire that are by far overpriced in the economy due to the some of the SAME people who pay for runs in the first place. In addition even further, the people selling runs are not creating income from nothing, and are earning gold through offering a service to other people.

I think people mistake where the problem is, quite honestly, and end up getting blinded by the fact that people can buy into prestige items that aren’t really prestige in the first place. If you’re bothered by the fact that people can spend money just to get the best items and weapons, why are people not complaining about the fact that Anet has a system that literally allows you to spend real money for in game currency? Is that not the actual problem here that ultimately causes people to have a distaste in their mouth that people can buy into items?

Here’s the thing: Don’t get me wrong, I love having the ability to earn items and I would prefer it that many worthwhile rewards were actually behind skill gates, not gold sinks and grindfests. But, for me, an orange recolor of a weapon you can otherwise get is not prestigious in my opinion, and much better could be added to the game that -is- worth the effort and skill. However, as it stands, for those items that should be considered prestigious (aka legendaries), they have become a serious chore and unfair to players who wish to earn them at a decent and fair rate due to the -same- reason that people that are upset with people who buy runs — namely being the fact that the people who pay real money for things wreck it for those who try and work really hard. In this case, the people who are selling the runs are (as far as I have seen) just finding a way to make the gold other people buy work to their advantage so the creation and acquisition of items they want becomes more viable and fair to themselves, as it should have been all along.

Never played a single video game for that. I’d bet most play an MMO for entertaining content and social interactions. I’d also bet most play with each other for mutually beneficial reasons. That we’d, by our nature, work together to achieve our goals. Not work against each other and not try to deny each other. We wouldn’t berate the game developers and selfishly ask for content to be made just for ourselves. Nor, even have such an attitude of being better than anyone else.

100% of the games content should be available from multiple avenues. Those avenues should include the Trading Post. Because if someone is “good”, their skills should be able to earn them more than one single item. That’s where trading items has further value.

It’s a freaking skin, how is that P2W? If I could buy a weapon with 1500 strength then that’s P2W. We’re talking about skins and cosmetics.

For the continued conversation of rewards, why shouldn’t a skilled player be able to earn income beyond a simple skin? Being able to sell a run IS rewarding a players skill! Having the capacity to sell multiple copies of a difficult to acquire item IS rewarding a players skill.
