Since mesmers can portal you to the end of JP’s, gliding is just a bonus and i doubt there would be any updrafts. They can implement a system where you start the JP’s by activating the flag at the start of the JP to disable the gliding and mesmer portals so you are qualified for the JP credit.

The only thing gliding will do to jumping puzzles is help prevent deaths, and maybe you wont need to start some puzzles from the beginning if you fall.

Don’t worry. Since it was pretty much confirmed gliding will be available in core Tyria soon, every jumping puzzle will be far easier.

Most won’t be helped by gliding and ANet will likely make sure gliding will not trivialize jumping puzzles.

This is ANet we’re talking about.

I haven’t seen enough to tell me that they are incapable of making the gliding not adversely affect jumping puzzles given their current state and what would be needed to do so.

Most jumping puzzles go up or in tight spaces where jumping is difficult and short spaces away, meaning gliding wouldn’t get you to where you need to be. Unless they put in updrafts, but I highly doubt they would do that right on top of a jumping puzzles.

As someone who has to take motion sickness pills in order to do most jumping puzzles, I definitely sympathize. I also understand that they are just part of the game, and while I hate to take shortcuts most of the time, I will request a Mesmer port if it’s something I need to do to obtain another goal (and it’s possible).

Personally, I think it would make a huge difference if there could be specific gating areas of the more intricate ones. Once you pass a gate, if you fall, you go back to that gate, instead of having to start the entire thing over again.

In GW1, which was my first experience with GW in 2004, characters could not jump, as in not even a jump standing in place unless you used the dance emote then some of them jumped. People asked for characters that could jump. I’m one of them, but not in this fashion, those games with jumping PUZZLES were never something I enjoyed, a jump once in awhile yes but overboard no. In GW2 the jumping aspect is something I despise greatly. I just plan and simple won’t do jumping puzzles because I hate them. I like all the other aspects of it (yes I have HoT and still find other ways around the kitten jumping puzzles) a little here and there, yes, but that no. It hasn’t always been ingratiated so much into the GW games. I adjust my play to avoid them, I don’t want anything, nothing, that bad that I would do them. (I don’t need to be “reminded” of what I am “missing” btw, I already know, and its not worth it to me to do them, it might be worth it to YOU but not to me. I’ve been with GW2 since beta, there is plenty to do that I actually like doing and I’ll forgo jumping puzzles. Again, for YOU wanting the things behind puzzles is important, for me its not. The dislike of them far outweighs the rewards for ME. I was even thinking of fractals, as I do have ascended armor and felt ready after all this time to try them, but I read this, and nope I’ll stay out of them. Better for you and for me.

Account Actions and 6 month suspensions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Why are so many people assuming suspended accounts won’t get rolled back to the last backup made before Wintersday started? ANet removes gold from accounts that were purchased from gold sellers in addition to the suspension, it’s not going to be any different in this case.

Because he said this

Does this mean that if someone botted they get to keep everything?
Absolutely not, in most cases we are attempting to remove what we can before the player returns. However, there are just going to be some things we can’t remove.

If they rolled the account back they wouldn’t have to attempt to remove what they can and there wouldn’t be some things they can’t remove.

When he says that, I’m assuming he means they can’t remove the gifts/drinks and gold that have already been put into circulation rather than what the accounts still have in their inventory.

Might be hard for them to remove achievement points, skins, and other account related stuff without a rollback.

Personally I don’t give a kitten about their AP and such, I want confirmation that their inventory items gained through the hack were removed. If they are so kittening concerned about the economy in this game, the least they could do is act like it. Botting floods the market with ill gotten goods. Banning these accounts temporarily simply delays the botters ability to sell their goods for gold which will probably just be sold for cash anyway.
As for their yet-to-be-sourced “data” on how temp banning is good… Now that the info is openly known, botters will simply adjust, and your precious “data” about banning is now useless.

From a PvP perspective, I can guarantee that the developers are seeing the reports.

There have been some player requests and issues that have been addressed that have made it to the game ((though rarely the patch notes)) [[Mystic Forge Conduit now works btw]]

I do stay in constant contact with 3 Anet Employees. One of which I have at least a weekly convo with.

Of all the PvP issues and requests that need addressing the MF conduit being able to work has to be one of the lease significant. It’s kinda bordering insulting to fix something so mundane as glaring issues go unattended.

That is just the most recent one bug wise… other issues have been reported… just haven’t heard anything back on them. You can bug the devs for the reports if you believe none of the important issues are being reported on.

I guess that’s kind of a symptom of being left out of the loop. We simply don’t know what’s being reported or seen. Is there a NDA that the forum specs have agreed to as to not disclose what they are reporting? If not maybe a forum spec thread in the respective section would help alleviate some of the symptoms.

I don’t think FSs can edit other posters’ thread titles. I’ve rarely seen the PvE FS create a thread, but I might have just missed them all. /shrug

I’m not saying they can or should. If something particularly useful/exciting comes out of a discussion or they just want to update us with their collected insights for the week or something they can/should make a new thread, tag the title, and if need be include links to what got them all juicy.

I pay attention to their tags with I see them in thread. I’d be more inclined to click on and read their threads if I could identify them at a glance from the forum pages. If the board software supports a different color (blue?) tag for them that gets overridden by a red tag if a Dev shows up, great. Until then there are ways to achieve better communication than we’re seeing now with tools we know are available.

Both my team (EN (2), FR, DE and ES) and our Forum Specialists do gather and share suggestions with the developers, yep.

And it all happens INVISIBLY, which is an unbelievable waste of opportunity to build community goodwill.

Your feedback loops suck. Period. Full stop. If you’d post even a weekly highlights roundup or something, point out things that caught your eye even if they will never specifically be acted on, it would be a huge boon to keeping the boards to a low simmer instead of boiling over with frustration.

Not that I know of. It’s possible that could happen, but at the current time there are plans to communicate through other means, including forum posts from team members or on behalf of a team and of course on our official website, in the “news” section. (The “news” is really a blog, and that’s where a lot of info goes. Once posted, forum members invited to share their thoughts here on the topic at hand.)

You actually mean ‘on reddit’, right? because that’s the only place anyone’s seen anyone from ArenaNet except you (and the API developer) for months now…

As Qugi suggested, calling it a CDI can be confusing, but you’re welcome to initiate or join a thread on any topic you’d like to discuss.

Which isn’t even a pale shadow of a CDI. Its almost an unrelated concept compared to a thread hosted, guided, and read and responded to every day by a Developer with the ability to drive in-game results on that topic.

They admitted it after trying to make Anet look like they were the bad guys banning innocent people, posting a ridiculous YouTube video, and then hours of silence (and video removal) after Anet came out and stated they had indeed cheated with information to back up those claims.

It is one thing to say you’re sorry, a mistake was made, it won’t happen again…another to deflect, lie, etc.

The brother did apologize in his reddit post. And he explained why he lied – “we outsiders” simply can’t know if he really didn’t remember his so-called “one-time” cheating before he and his sister made the rage video, or not. And the video removal is perfectly fine, ever heard of damage control? Not everyone reads the forums, many ppl who might watch the video could really believe Anet are the bad guys here. Taking the video down doesn’t hurt anyone, right?

The brother apologized for everything on reddit, as for the sister I dunno, so is there really MORE need for the hate? Can’t the “friendliest MMO community” just stop behaving like a mob of vultures?

The community isn’t behaving like a bunch of vultures. I’m certainly not. You’re not. We’re both part of the community.

Communities are made of people and people aren’t uniformly good or bad. There’s a top 5% and a bottom 5%. They’re bad and really really good. Most of us fall between.

Unfortunately the bottom five percent is often visible. Why paint the whole community with one brush?

your virtual item

Judge much?

@OP good for you and congrats! I’m always surprised how far people will go to belittle someone else’s work doing something they enjoy for no apparent reason. When we go play Baseball, Basketball, Hockey we don’t get told they are "no-life efforts and the final score isn’t considered a “virtual” item just because it isn’t tangible.

While I don’t share your enthusiasm for the JP i can see your efforts have brought you happiness and even some coin to put towards other goals. Because that’s what a MMORPG is all about to me, setting goals and reaching them

Let’s make things clear: this is an online game (or product) with a specific target. This is not an official sport or e-sport. You can not earn money from doing jumping puzzles, but you can earn money from baseball. I think your goals should be changed (my opinion), otherwise you will reach nothing but making a product more profitable for someone else, on the expense of your personal life time.

Oh, but i am fully written in for work and for studies, ever since i lost my job a few weeks back since they had to loose people, i don’t have much to spend my time in, so right now, as i await an answer from school / work, i am free to do anything, so why not try get what i want now, so i don’t have to do such later when i am working daily again?

The boundaries of no-life are pushed to new horizons every month, event after event. It’s hard to say something good or bad about this, because soon will come another player and break this no-life record, and another player after that, and so on.

If there is one thing we can not control or predict, is the craziness of human mind.

If you enjoy that much this event… go on and have fun, be all you can be. Don’t let anyone stop you from getting your virtual item, useful only for a few characters.

Not only was the expansion made before the original game, Guild Wars 3 was made before HoT and Guild Wars 2.

Dem Devs, they be sneaky.

Oh please, get your facts straight.

GW3 was planned before GW1 was conceived as an idea.

Duh

Ok. I researched it and I found out GW3 was planned out in 1958 and was completely made in 1962, which was a little hard as they did it on those pieces of paper that they punched holes in back then to make the computer code, but they did it all. After that the made HoT (still using those paper cards) and then later they made Guild Wars 2. And this was while they were in grades 1 to 6. After the Devs got out of grade school they started working on Guild Wars 1.

And now we know the whole story.

Guild Wars 3 was created in 1916 and would have cost $20 at the time. Adjusted for inflation it will cost…….$500 when finally released on it’s 100 year anniversary some time this year.

Also, Half Life 3 confirmed.

There’s something charming about rangers.

I don’t think it was made before GW2 was released but I don’t think it took them long to realize they couldn’t make a business case for selling goodies in Gemstore while making free content.

Balancing issues are not due to any of what the OP says: they are simply the nature of having an MMO with different classes that have different abilities.

In the constant zones I would allow pc characters to versus one another (this could maybe be done by clicking on a player nearby and asking if he wants to combat). There could also be rewards for this, or restrictions imposed if you do it without permission. I don’t believe in ‘not allowing’ these things to happen, because that isn’t realistic.

Whoa, whoa, wait, wait, wait.

One of your first threads (now deleted) on this forum was complaining about virtual animal rights, how wrong it was that we can kill the innocent animals and they should all be marked green. Now you turn around and say we should be able to gank other players without their permission because it would be realistic?

Ok,

So, say for example you are in a town and I come in and hit you with my sword. Before I am allowed to initiate a second attack, you will be given two choices (perhaps more?) by the computer:

1. Engage in combat. Earn points for each successful hit and for a win.

2. Refuse to engage in combat. You do not earn any points. I am notified of your choice. If I ignore it and attack you again Ascalon guards would come and arrest me and I will be put in jail for a period of time. Perhaps I could also lose some money, who knows. But you won’t be killed or affected by my second hit. Or if you are capable of being killed that would be really funny… I’m sure there’s ways around this to make everyone happy.

3. Complain to the army that you are being hassled. If you were in ‘combat’ mode and you choose this option, you may lose points. I am notified of your choice and delivered a warning from the guards which I had better follow.

Sound good?

Eve online uses this bait and switch system, it´s called ninja ganking there and is made with cans where goods are dropped in. The attacker attempts to steal the can and gets flaged as attackable. A newbie does not know about this and attacks the attacker because he sees that he steals from him and believes that law is on his side. but the veteran ganker can gank him effortlessly and within the law because he shot at the other guy first. An utterly disgusting tactic if you ask me, but people love it there because most of them are frankly no lifers and maybe RL morons too who have issues they can only give it out in a computer game.

Your idea is still much more reasonable than everything I have ever heard from gankers, OP. Most just want to gank untouched by police forces, but you would at least go to jail for your actions.

Throw in a flag that would show that I am not interested in open PvP which warrants an instant visit to jail once you hit me, and this could actually work.^^

He is likely refering to an expansion coming out in I would guess 2017.

For anyone familiar with developement cycles this should come as no suprise. It take years to get an expansion done. The entire process is more than just “let’s make some grafics, tweak a bit here and there, done”. The design process usually starts far earlier and has to do with general direction, theme, new ideas and so on that get brainstormed. Then the actual developement and programing takes a huge chunk of time too.

My guess is, areanet are moving to a system of frequent expansions in 1-2 year time gaps with some Living Story inbetween.

I’m sure it means something HoT-like. Twitch chat got very excited when he casually mentioned that in a sentence talking about balancing development focus.

Remember all the discussion about the price model for HoT, and the people that felt it was wrong to “give new players more because the core game is included for them?” Pretty early in that ANet flat out said “this is our new model, you’ll have to buy expansions but all earlier versions will be included so no one ever has to buy multiple games at once just to play.” This made future expansions rather less hypothetical.

The interesting take away from Colin’s comments is that they will be working on the next expansion this year alongside delivery of deeper content for existing systems, not waiting a year to even start. Presumably there will be more information regarding this on Tuesday in Colin’s promised blog.

You should listen to Colin’s comments yourself, Dulfy includes the video and it’s only 10 minutes at the start of the stream (plus a few seconds at the end). The rest is well worth watching if you have any interest in the process of composing game music but won’t tell you anything about coming game content.

edit @ Obtena: Actually, he specifically said that LS would be one of the things coming during the year.
