Here’s the thing. Sometimes game achievement is just a game achievement not a covered up agenda to promote drinking. If you relate a in game fantasy stuff to your real life you will have a bad time and maybe it’s time for you to be kitten somewhere else. News flash, everyone has their own problems irl, no need to drag them into fantasy game where plants have breasts and you can turn into a chair with a potion. Be a mature adult not a special delicate snowflake.

My sister and my mother are alcoholics and my mother is in a very bad state thanks to that now…

I do not drink alcohol and I forbid alcohol for our x-mas celebrations and most other things we celebrate. Have you heard about “Kräftskiva” or “Midsommar party”? It’s something we have in Sweden and alot of people are drinking lot’s during these days and I still forbid it on these days.

Now to the point of all this, I do not mind drinking in game as it does not hurt anyone as it is fantasy and not reality. People have to learn to see the difference between a game and reality.
I am not a parent but if I was I would have sit by my kid while playing a violent game or a game with alot of sex, alchohol, foul words and drugs until I can see that my kid can handle it no matter if it says 3+ years on the box cover. And I would never let my kid play a game alone that I have no idea what it is about.

So again, if you can’t see the difference between a game and reality I would suggest that you do something else and found a doctor to help you with that problem. The fault is not the game.

There was a time GW2 was Casual Friendly

Fun Facts:

1. High Social Environment does not mean casual friendly, as far as technical definition is concerned it actually means requiring of High Social Skills, so when someone says this is a High Social Experience he means you need to have excellent communication skills. Guess what game environment requires that? Raids. Anyone who has put “High Social Skills” on their resume knows this.
2. Dungeons originally were suppose to be harder than the raids that were released with GW2 Hot. It was advertised kitten. Dungeons were nerfed to satisfy the WoW kiddies who came to the game. that couldn’t function out of the UI fiesta that WoW has become.
3. Aside from the grind fest added in HoT, the CGC released in HoT is in line with the original intentions of Anet.

I have 8 alts, one of each of the original 8 classes, and the last 3 got 95% of their experience by gathering. I was outfitting all of them in Ascended gear, which takes a lot of gathering. Since I hate wasting experience opportunities, I simply raised alts and sent them to gathering lower tier stuff. The problem is, they level too fast so you need another to step into the lower tiers. As they progressed upward, then next one down took over the lower tier and up they all went in the gathering tiers as they leveled enough to go for the next tier.

At the moment they all have Ascended weapons (both hands worth), Ascended coats, some have Ascended pants, and at least 3 pieces of Ascended jewelry each.

I’m now raising a Revenant and guess what her assignment is? You guessed it….gathering. After all, she’ll need ascended gear too….

You can gather even when you’re brain dead, so it’s something to do when it’s that time of night.

It’s a game… Play it as such.

Both my parents are dead… Been so for years… One death heavily impacted by alcohol… And I’m still in my 20’s… And not bothered by this achievement.

Don’t take things too seriously or personally… You will be happier for it.

This post of yours, and I quote: ‘this has got noting at ALL to do with wvw or

Yes, confusing thread.

Well, to be fair, this wasn’t the original title…though, that begs the question of who changed it….can’t say I know who has that ability.

Oh boo hoo cry me a river.
I grew up with both parents drinking and passed out most nights but you don’t hear me complaining about an achievement in a video game. The rest of the world doesn’t need to suffer just because somebody you know had some issues and you can’t deal with them in a constructive way that doesn’t interfere with other people having fun.

How is it any different from the candy corn eating achievement from Halloween? My character had to eat so much candy he continuously vomited everywhere. There are many references to alcohol in GW2, it’d be wrong to remove them. It’s as much a part of the world as anything else. If you’re making the argument that young kids play the game and shouldn’t be exposed to characters getting drunk, then we’d better get rid of the weapons and start hitting the enemies with pillows instead.

Actually, Tigaseye is correct. The closest people can come to controlling their feelings is to not put themselves into situations which might elicit feelings. This works, up to the point where something unexpected happens.

No, the only ones who don’t have their feelings under control are small kids and psychopaths.

What you’re talking about is self-control. This means that people can control their reactions.

That is kind of nit picking as that was what was meant here and what would have prevented a thread blaming each and everyone for their own misery. We all are miserable in one way or the other we just don’t let everything get to us – that doesn’t mean the initial feeling isn’t there but one can control it so it goes away.

ETA: I once sat in my car and a lady crashed hers in reverse at around 20 mph into it – I even honked to warn her, but no. For some reason my car seemed fine but I was angry (I wonder why). So I got out and told her that was a no go. And she started to scream at me that her little daughter was in hospital and bad and that I should have sympathy and that I probably don’t have kids and whatnot. She screamed on and on until I told her “Don’t make your problems to mine!” That’s when she stopped.

People who “can’t control their feelings”?

No one can control their feelings, they’re just feelings…

Of course you can control your feelings – if you can’t then you better be locked away as you’re a danger to mankind or yourself.
Something reminds you of something you don’t want to be reminded of: a) You complain about that and blame everybody else = feelings escalate or b) You remind yourself that they’re your personal feelings and that no one really is to blame for that = feeling goes away after a while.

I had enough alcoholics in my family as well – the reason for me to never become one.

ETA: “Had” because 4 of them died and the rest stopped drinking alcohol = it is “cureable” (people can stop to drink and I guess the urge to drink goes away eventually).
ETA²: And I don’t think that a few virtual items that are gone with a right click trigger alcoholism.

I always find it interesting how when I write something in generality, that players will take offense to very specific things. Anyway, I digress.

I’ve worked in customer service before. Everyone I know has. It is like a right of passage, really. And everyone I know has found it to be among the most soul crushing experience ever. Essentially you end up getting screwed from both ends: your company treats you like dirt because you’re a replaceable cog, and the customers treat you like dirt because you’re a replaceable face representing that same company. It is some kind of agoraphobic nightmare to have endless people you’ve never seen before run up and instantly hate you.

At least in real life you get the benefit of a face to face interaction, which will soften the rage. But here, this is basically being in perpetual argument with the youtube comment section.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

I stand 100% with Blood Red Arachnid.

While there are legitimate complaints to be made, this and in fact pretty much all gaming communities have lost all sense of proportion in terms of what they can expect from developers. Shrill, unreasonable and ill-informed complaints far outweigh reasonable feedback and no matter what you do, people find a way to be outraged.

Gamers as a group are doing an excellent job of living up to all the worst stereotypes about us and if I were a game developer I would long ago have given up on communicating with such a toxic group of people, and would be just keeping my head down and doing my job, as the Anet developers are doing.

The fact is that the quality of feedback on game forums is exceptionally poor. I’m a software developer and I very seldom see anything that would be useful to an actual dev outside the bug report forums. People think that having an idea about what could be improved is the same as having a solution but that’s so far from the truth. Software development is complex and hard, and if you don’t have the training and access to the code base you can’t possibly have an informed opinion, that’s a simple fact.

There’s enough of weebs running around befouling the game with their uninspiring Japanese names. If you want anime, go and play the myriad of anime games already in existent. There are lot of these small games for small minds out there.

I think that people who come up with these ideas only think of human and how they would look.

How would my Charr look in a human school uniform. What about my max size (very full breasted) female Norn, or a max sized male Norn for that matter. Suddenly the look changes from heartwarming and non kinky to ridiculous and/or kinky.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.
