As Jaymee says, Luxon & Kurzick fought each other, but were willing to slow hostilities to help against the greater threat. White Mantle are, in this case, the greater threat.
As ANet has stated many times across the history of the franchise: we’re engaged in an epic battle of order versus chaos (or maybe even good vs evil); there is only one side in the fight: ours.
Yeah, let’s ignore the fact here that the White Mantle are actual bad guys, if I recall correctly.
bonk
The wedge between the Luxons and Kurzicks were just that of… these two two different fact, neither was badly aligned, neither were holier than thou art saviors… these were just two factions that found cause for disliking one another.
As memory serves in GW 1, the White Mantle lead us to believe that they were the good guys, and then we got slapped upside the head when we rudely found out that they were anything BUT good.
The hairstyles- you guys missed the mark by so much. I bought makeover kits and hairkits thinking we’ll be getting something new and fresh only to be given the entire opposite. I wonder how many micro transactions you could have made if you would have delivered properly- there is no unisex between asura, you gave male asuran access to female asuran hairstyles, there is nothing unisex about them. Stop making goofy charr hairs. And the norn/human swap- the males are okay but the females (on both ends) you picked the worst hairstyles, especially for norn. THe flower hairstyle doesn’t actually look good. It’s a goofy hairstyle to begin with and now norn can look silly too.
The sylvari, why not just give us the one sylvari npc hair that we don’t have access too? It’s the wysteria/willow branches, why not give sylvari more flower/ long hair? Give human females a variation of the long norn braid- the norn have the Celtic clasps, take those away and make them beads or ribbons or something to distinguish the humans and norn females. Give more racial hairstyles as in elonian and canthan. Gw1 had the best hairstyles.
I’m afraid to see what the faces will turn out to look like. Also, you forgot to add animation to the asuran braids…
I now have a useless infusion that used to be in my amulet and my amulet needs a new infusion of some sort. The new infusion vendor converter thing is beyond confusing. Not sure why this stuff needed changing tbh.
It’s changing because the new system is much simpler.
- Old system: two types of infusion slots, two categories of infusions.
- New system: one type of slot, one category of infusions.
- Old system: multiple types of recipes, varied recipes, and different vendors for each type of infusion. No way to upgrade some infusions, no way to recover components from any.
- New system: all upgrades done at a single vendor. All infusions can be either upgrades or broken down do that they can be recombined.
- Old system: mathematically complex to build up to preferred AR total.
- New system: mathematically simple.
The main exceptions to the simpler/better are:
- Amulets no longer hold infusions; they only hold Enrichments. That is a technical limitation, as they could offer either/or. So owners/uses of the buffs see no change; those who used infusions need to adapt by breaking down and recombining to other slots.
- WvW infusions apparently have no upgrade or downgrade path. This appears to be an economic issue. Since it’s not technical, I suspect ANet might be open to a well-worded suggestion to include them in the infusion progression tree.
tl;dr the overall system is simpler for anyone new to fractals or raids or wvw or future sources of infusions/ascended gear. (It’s a one time pain for the rest of us.) The new system is also more flexible and (mostly) cheaper overall (again, with some potential one-time costs for some of us).
Programmer
which of the different professions do you enjoy playing the most?
I have at least one of every profession. I’m slowly working toward having every combination.
what kind of build do you use for your character?
Most of the time, whatever floats my boat. For specific content, I sometimes try to tune things to complement my general play style and allow me to dole out the damage.
is there any particular NPC of the game that plays a major role in the story that you like the most?
Not particularly.
What’s your style, as in are you a combo-master, ranged specialist or setting up a fight for other players to assist in delivering the killing blow?
Depends on the class really, but since I’m often running solo, I tend to play a safer tactic (whatever that may be for the class.)
What are some of your favorite maps in the world of Tyria?
I’m having a tough time thinking of a favorite. There are things I like in nearly every map.
what other games do you enjoy playing if any?
I play a lot of games from casual, to shooters, to just about everything in between. I haven’t really been tempted to play a MOBA yet though.

Not even a newer player here and I snagged the bundle as I’m not drowning in tomes quite yet. Next time I make a character it’ll be tomes to Lv 10, personal story for the key, scroll to 30, 10 tomes for the next personal story step level for a key. By the time I’m done with the 20-40 story, should be around Lv 60 and ready for the next story key, then tomes to finish off to 80 if needs be.
Just need to decide what I’m making next >.<
You start with the level 10 story no matter what, so just use the scroll immediately and start at level 30. Continue with the level 20, 30 chapters and use tomes for a few levels to 40 or 50, then it shouldn’t be hard to finish the remaining chapters, you’ll still have plenty of tomes.
What a completely unnecessary change. 4 mediocre choices with 2 being worthless in WvW.
Make it so that the XP infusion works like the new xp boosters and apply to World Xp and reward track, so it may actually be useful.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Being able to sell all green/blue sigils and runes with the sell junk button.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
The special action utility has had use since the first Raid wing in the Sabetha fight.
Just keybind it, it is in the options. Problem solved.
Here’s a Dev response (from summary) that may address the issue:
‘We’re going to be adding more ascended rewards in future Living World releases- I picked the ones available in this episode to try and address the biggest gaps from HoT.’
While I feel for you, there are those of us who enjoy all the visual effects and could do with more. I’ve played with the game on both the lowest and highest settings and the difference it makes adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game, even if it’s not strictly adding to the narrative. Have you tried turning off all the options, such as post-processing and shaders? That may be help – at the lowest graphical settings there’s hardly any flashing lights or anything. Also, turn off camera shake if you haven’t already. That makes even me nauseous sometimes.
Max AR Fractal players got kittened.
Compensate the players for their loses.
……You REALLY did not read the patch notes did you? Agony infusions can now go into ANY SLOT. No need to compensate people when they gave people the ability to “fix” it along with the kittening patch.
This right here folks is a classic case of someone who needs to RTFPN.
Here is my “Good”, “Bad”, and “Ugly”
The Good:
1. I echo most of what people loved above in this thread. One that hasn’t been mentioned yet is the account wide unlock of recipes from consumables.
2. LS is awesome. I’m only a little way in, but it is engaging and fun. Well written.
3. The new map is freakin’ awesome!
4. The new fractal is fun. Love the mash up.
5. QoL are all fine by me. Even the “Rise!” nerf is OK. I main a necro with “Rise!” and it wasn’t nerfed to where it was no longer worth having on my skill bar. I’m glad you didn’t make my favorite Necro skill unusable.
6. The Ghost of [So NOT going to spoil it.]!!! I was freaking out in a good way. Very happy!
The Bad:
1. The content is so good that I want to play. Hell, I wanted to take the day off of work to play more. LOL. So, the bad means I am going to plow through the content and I will want more. Sigh. So I guess the bad is my problem not yours.
The Ugly:
1. Phlunt. Man. That dude has a face and personality not even a mother could love.
The new map is fun, if a bit more simplified than previous maps. It reminds me of how Dry Top was when we only had access to the first part of it, so I wonder if future updates will open up more of Bloodstone Fen?
The map was a lot of fun. When I first entered the map I thought (in a positive way), what drug did the designers took to make such a chaotic map.
But I do not think the map will be expanded. On the north and east borders of the map are the raid maps, on the west border is the guild hall map and on the south border is Verdant Brink.
The worst part for me was the very end when freaking Lazarus the Dire shows up out of NOWHERE and acts like a stereotypical ego-maniacal cartoon supervillain. Seriously he pops out of nowhere yelling “I AM YOUR GOD!! MWAHAHA” which was very stupid and infantile in my honest opinion. He even does the gesture where he holds his hands up and leans back as if he is drunk with evil and power. You might as well have given him a big curly mustache to twirl and a black cape to flip aside dramatically.
Lazarus is the LAST living member of the most powerful magical race from the last time the elder dragons rose. In GW1 he was a big deal. In fact he is supposed to be dead! How did he come back to life? I remember a very small mention of “resurrection” at some point but there was honestly no cause to connect those dots at any point. Having him appear suddenly at the end like that has got to be the worst instance of deus ex machina in GW2 to date. He randomly appears, kills all the remaining enemies for you, and allows your main nemesis for the story (Caudecus) to escape.
The Caudecus story was predictable. I never thought we catch him in this episode.
Lazarus really was a badly presented deus-ex-machina.
Players of the last raid wing will know that he was (kind of) resurrected (or at least it was tried) and maybe there was a NPC in the map that did a story recap of the raid story part, but he should have been introduced into the LS3 story much better.
I disagree with you on Lazarus, I thought Lazarus was presented well as a threat to all of Tyria. Caudecus and Lazarus also seemed to have some tension with respect to their plans. That tension could come into a play and is a good build-up in the plot, IMO.
Also, Primordius? Really? You KNOW we’re going to fight them all ANYWAY, what’s there to reveal? The dragons will all be active eventually. We know dragons feast on magic and their deaths release it de-stabilizing the world. I don’t think there’s much storytelling potential with the dragons themselves, I mean they’re forces of nature, pretty straight-forward.
That’s brilliant, Blaeys. I really like that idea. There might be some scaling issues (guild missions are meant for 5-15 people depending on difficulty, though fewer or more can succeed, and the bandit fights don’t need very many whereas the executioners and anomalies need quite a few), but triggered guild missions is a fine way to revisit this content. It could even be considered a “retelling” — Guild leader saying “hey, new folks, let me tell you about the time when the White Mantle came out of the shadows” and the mission is reliving the story rather than having it be actually canonically happening again.
This is my thinking as well.
I really hope that, moving forward, they consider guild missions as a legitimate story telling (or, as you describe it, retelling
) tool. They are the one thing my guild most enjoys about the game, but they are getting a bit dated and stale.

The answer, imo, is to turn them into guild missions once they are no longer part of the story.
Place triggers at the locations and include them in the PVE guild mission rotation. That way, they stay in the game and you ensure that, when they are triggered, there is an organized force there to deal with them.
Btw, I’ve always hoped they would bring Marionette and a few other similar events from season one back in this same fashion.
Nevermind, I forgot I could cheese my way to completion by being a ‘big spender’ in WVW.
I fail to see how this is “cheesing your way” to completion, when it is listed as one of the dailies. Certainly no worse than doing a vista daily.
Especially when you’re complaining about another element of the dailies being too difficult.
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

What’s the point of using [SPOILER] is you are doing it on the very title? Can you please change it? Thanks!
There is no spoiler here. It mentions the name given to the new guild that replaces Destiny’s Edge. The name was public on the website for months and is mentioned in the very first scene of the story. It has also been openly discussed by Anet when they had us vote on it.
The subject itself has nothing to do with the story unfolding, but brings out the fact that a mistake in the grammar of the name (improper possessive usage) changes the meaning to one very inappropriate.
No Spoiler mentioned at all in the title, or really in the thread at all.
The elimination of the limit is good, but I have now a total of 50 defensive WvW infusions that are garbage because the offensive are better. 250 Laurels + 55 from amulet. I want to have it back, thank you.
This sounds similar with people who have shared inventory slots and multiple sets of gathering tools or several copper-fed kits — ANet’s stance has always been: you had the opportunity to benefit from these upgrades for some time; there won’t be any refund because you’ve already received value for the cost.
Regardless of whether one agrees, this has been their consistent stance. ANet’s confirmed this, since a consequence of a refund would adding a lot of laurels that can be converted into gold (via Heavy Crafting Bags).
It can’t hurt to put in a support ticket to ask for a refund, especially if you bought these within the last week or three.
QoL update was good, the salvaging update is great, hopefully with that system in place we will get an “open all” feature next time for champ bags/chests etc,
The new map is nicely made, the only complaint I have is the White Mantle range attacks when gliding are crazy, like half way across the map crazy, even if you use stealth while gliding they still pip you out of the sky, im not sure how much replay ability the new map will have when people get the achievements etc, but time will tell on that.
The “update” to some skills is over the top, the minions from the necro seem to just die now, and don’t do much, so much so ive dropped them from my skills, ive seen others talking about ele and Mesmer but I don’t main either of them, hopefully you will take feedback from them topics and adjust skills accordingly, I dropped guardian awhile back because it was lacklustre in high level fractals due to retal, but the update according to a friend who mains guard, has said the update is good for guards so I guess that’s a positive.
I was disappointed that a topic that has come up time and time again in recent months, wasn’t addressed, and that was to do with the daily AP cap, you’s are keep a firm silence stance on that, and it looks like an update to this is never coming, with content being spaced out months apart, this really slows/ ( or stops ) progress to the achievement chests for armor etc, can we please get an update on this at some point in the near future, in 95 days I will hit the cap, and then im not sure I will bother playing daily anymore, as I really wont have a lot to log in for. ( do you have any info on this topic Gaile )
The story twist at the end was amazing, was a nice throwback to GW1, and cant actually wait to see where this goes now.
I for one have no issues with the length and the content of this patch. It’s just about right if you ask me. I’d be super annoyed if they added something grindy/timegated so that we are busy for the next 2-3 months.
This patch was just amazing.
Pretty much this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Living-World-Season-Three/first
MO clearly states they will be similar to the “quarterlies” but they will try and do better/sooner. So to me that’s 3-4 months.
Lets see.
A year is 12 months.
A quarter of that is 3 months.
More frequently than quarterly means less than 3 months. MO even capped the most as 6 times a year, at best, which is every 2 months.
So, no idea how you got 4 months out of that post. Which is why people are questioning you.
RIP City of Heroes
This patch was pretty meh, not really surprised. The living story episode was very short, felt rushed and highly predictable. While the new fractal was alright at best for using rehashed stuff. It’s not saying much since we haven’t had a new one since 2013 ish ? And we won’t get anything more for another several months. I haven’t logged on in weeks and thought maybe anet would release something decent for this patch, wrong as usual. It’s back to other games for another 2-3 months. I honestly don’t know why I even hope to expect anything from anet but shallow crap. I don’t know why ppl didn’t like the bi weekly releases in 2013 , to me it was the most fun I’ve ever had in this game with scarlet and all that . Guess I’m just hanging on to false hope and good fun and memories with the guild mates that used to login . This game is going downhill bad.
Have you tried the new map? People nowadays look back with nostalgia goggles forgetting the glaring flaws of S1 and S2. This patch brings a full new maps packed with content as well as fully voiced story instance, which is so much more than S1 ever could offer in half a season.
a bunch of useless glider skills that can only be used on this one pointless boring map.
Gliding started in the HOT maps and made its way to Central. It could happen again.
And don’t forget we can mine Blood Dust now, can feed our eaters more often now!
Actually, a lot of Mawdreys are going to go hungry for a while. The new vendor eats up a lot of Bloodstone Dust :P.
