Hello as someone who speedruns dungeons i would find it extremely helpfull if you were to add an player filter that can be set based on the desired number of ap , gear stats etc so people who dont have those cant join and i dont have to do gearcheck, thanks.
Make a Speed Clear Dungeon Guild. nod Then you only have to gear check once and you can pick from the pool of like-minded individuals. Don’t LFG expecting such things. And I seriously doubt that will ever come here and thank goodness for that. I also like that there is no inspect feature. Inclusivity is far better than exlusionary things for a small subset of players.
“What Part Of Living Says You Gotta Die?
I Plan On Burnin Through Another 9 Lives”
But what about people who have a 2nd (3rd, 4th, etc…) account and want to speed run AC with that acc that has 500 APs?
Maybe they have 20k APs on their main, know every dungeon fight, have godly dps and full zerk gear on their alt accounts.
so what if they have pitchforks and torches they should get gear and exp before joining dungeon parties. its not my job to teach new players how to run dungeons and i have interest in doing so, as for people being angry at an lfg tool concept , hey i coudnt care less i dont like slow runs and bad players
come at me.
Ok I get you saying get gear to an extent, however GW2 is an inclusive game, and if you need gear to clear a dungeon… I’d look to improve your own abilities be for blaming others.
I ment the pitch forks and torches in a comical sense, I figured the hyperbole/sarcasm would be obvious I guess it wasn’t. So my apologies for the poor word choice. What I mean is this type of suggestion has a very heavy skew towards exclusive game play which is the opposite of what GW2 is going for. Many players simply do not want to encourage that type of play, so ideas like this tend to be unpopular.
If you have no interest in being friendly or teaching players dungeon paths simply put “80 exp only” and any other stipulations you have for the party you want in your listing. However assuming or insinuiting other players are “bad” because they enjoy a different play style then you is the EXACT attitude that causes people to react so poorly to exclusive play ideas.
As long as people are friendly, I don’t mind if we kill a boss a minute faster or slower…
I hope they’ll never add these filters…
Players in gw2 aren’t a frustrated bunch like in many other mmo’s, but more social and I think it’s because of decisions like this one…
And on a sidenote…When I look for people in LFG I write the following:
Must like long walks in the park
Surprisingly, running dungeons everyday doesn’t grant you thousands of AP.
hi, my main accnt has over 13500 ap
my alt accnt has bit above 1k because it is new
dat AP check lol~
now the interesting part: i used to run aether path daily, one of the best runs was with complete noobs that admitted they didn’t know that path and actually listened and did what i told them to… killed all bosses on 1 try~
the worst runs actually included players with10k+ AP….
i avoid those 5k+ AP runs like fire because i know those people probably suck and just want to get carried~

This is what friends list is for find people that feel like you add them then play only with them dont use the lfg tool bam done you got your filter
Edit
And dont complain when it take long to form groups thats on you becouse you want it that way.
True ap has little meaning to me but i want to see you try and do coe for example with 1-2k ap people see how well that works out . As for the game allowing bad dungeon players to join any party no i dont like that at all.
I’ve done CoE speed runs with people with less then 1k Ap, worked just fine. Heck I actually had a 438 and 1034 in my group last night, one was a first timer, and had no problems. The term “bad dungeon players” Is a matter of opinion, and based of AP means its an opinion based off an assumption, that’s usually a recipe for trouble. Dungeons hardly take an optimized group to clear, if you want to speed run with experience players put that in your LFG, if someone joins but didn’t bother to read, just vote kick them.
What you are asking for is a LFG tool that is based on extremely exclusive concepts, most of the GW2 community has torches and pitchforks at the ready for things like that. GW2 is an INCLUSIVE game design and many (myself included) like it that way.
so what if they have pitchforks and torches they should get gear and exp before joining dungeon parties. its not my job to teach new players how to run dungeons and i have interest in doing so, as for people being angry at an lfg tool concept , hey i coudnt care less i dont like slow runs and bad players

Going by how you post, I believe a great amount of players would rather have a noobie along instead of you. Hell, even as an experienced player I would not want to group with you with that attitude.
If they implemented a filter, I wish they’d add some filter to never have to have people with your attitude join my groups. Not talking about good players, but people full of themselves. It’s dungeons we are talking about, that’s beyond easy content.
Talk about getting all frisky about nothing…
My guild you get benefits for consistently repping. That’s imo better than forcing people to rep. And for the first time in my mmo gaming I actually want to rep the guild, with or without benefits.
Don’t know how many guilds I’ve been in through the years , but this the first that is actually social, no matter what was advertised. An inherent issue is that everyone can try to build a guild , but few will succeed. It’s hard to keep a guild interested. It requires alot of effort and an instinct for what people are looking for I think. When in doubt go with activities that play to peoples greed. Seems to work pretty well.
I also think that with HoT, Anet started catering more to established guilds rather than startup. People had way to many mats in inventory and they needed ways to dump alot of it ( and would you feel more comfortable dumping mats into an established guild or a risky startup). Side effect of this was that previously rich guilds leveled quicker and became more attractive
p.s I was a gleader for a time and failed miserably. It’s not for everyone.
How strange. We must have played different games. In all my traditional mmorpg (most are pvpish), every guild I am part of either as member or as vice leader or as leader, we are solid in social and really united compare to many guilds out there, to the point that even other guilds recognize that.
But when I come to this game, other than during launch, at this stage of the game, after 3 long years, most people I’ve encounter now are pretty much so casual to the point that they don’t interact or not social or don’t participate or don’t contribute or some are rather demanding (without contributions) or simply being a leech. Basically, a random useless name on the roster. Maybe is the timezone.

Considering how a previous discussion of this topic a month ago had statements about non repping members “spying” on guild chat and about how guild leaders have “lost control,” maybe this type of discussion by guild leaders is more about controlling their members than whether or not players should be able to rep different guilds so they can easily play with different people.
I prefer not to be controlled, thanks. I’ll rep the guilds that interest me most and listen to the chat of all my guilds.
ANet may give it to you.
If you’re going to say that all people are able to pick their relation to other players if allowed then I say that’s good. That means players have more freedom to be with the players they want to play with. They can switch between people they like easier without feeling bind to and signed up for life with one guild.
I stuck to my guild for years, and I know it felt cramped at times, and now I can check out other guilds easily, talk to them, be a part of them if I wish to do so. And I did, and I could easily still keep track of both guilds. At some point I stuck wit the one guild while keeping in contact with guilds of good friends of mine.
Similarly, we have members who don’t rep and still feel part of our guild regardless. Our guild is much bigger than the small core group of members. We’re just very laid back about the non-repping part. And that works for us.
For some reason if I see people making a big drama about what other people do in their guild, then that just makes people scare away. If you’re relaxed and respect their decisions you’re going to have a much better time.
It’s just the same in real life if you have two families (your own and your spouse’s) and then your friends (or maybe more than one group even) and maybe then also colleagues to juggle your attention with. And you really don’t want to decide that you can only have one of those groups to be a part of, that doesn’t work.

There is also the cultural thing. Depending on which regions, which country your members are based, their mentality can be vastly different and thus the way they treat guild will also be different. Then you need to determine the necessary rules and expectations to make things work for that members base.
You need to determine what works and not base on what other said because some ignorance people might say this is bad or that is bad in practice but in reality, it might be what you really need for your guild to move on. To give a analogy, what may work in america, may not work in china and likewise the other way round.
There are trials and error involved, I can tell you that all successful large guilds today had encounter at least one drama and drama is a good learning lesson on what you need to do to maintain a stable environment.

Good luck.
Really? You think that’s the reason behind it? You don’t think the only reason they don’t add those services to Guild Halls is b/c they want to sell their Airshp and Royal Terrace passes? I mean if u had those conveniences in Guild Hall, who would need those passes?
No one ever needs those passes. You’ve been able to go to Heart of the Mists for fast access to TP, bank, and vendor for a long time now. You’ve also been able to go to wvw to access crafting stations, TP, bank, laurel vendor, basic vendors, etc. forever; you can even access the Mystic Forge there sometimes. So, I don’t think your gem store conspiracy really applies in this case.
Anyways, discuss. Am I the only one who thinks naming in this game is ridiculous? Are you for or against the release of unused char names and/or do you have any better ideas to solve the naming issue?
I have never, ever had an issue getting the names I wanted, be it they being fantasy related for RP reasons, or following a theme, or following a Naming convention, so I am fine with the current system.
While I could get behind a system like what Neverwinter does where everyone has an applied Surname with their Account name, IE: (Name@AccountName) because to me, that would make it much easier to keep track of who is who in guild chat.
But, that aside, really, how hard is it to get a decent name?
I could see a few hours, looking for a specific theme based name, like for example, I have a guild mate that names all their Sylvari after plants, which it seems, so do a lot of other people in GW2, so they sometimes have a little difficulty trying to get an exact plant, but a large part of that is due to their own stubbornness to want that exact plant, for example, they wanted to use, I think it was Poison Ivy as name, (not really 100% sure) so they went about looking at all the veins, technical names, and everything they could think of to get that name for their Sylvari. They ended up using special characters to make it happen. I got a laugh out of it, But, all their frustration, they brought upon themselves.
So as opposed to saying much more, I am just going to provide some helpful links.
Really Nice Fantasy Name Generator This one even has a sub-set, just for GW2, Divided up by each of the Races. Check out the Sylvari list, or if you need it, the Human list. You will find much better options then “Knox +more x’s”
If that does not curtail your thirst of making new names. Here is a bit more generators at your disposal.
Cutesy Fantasy Name Generator
Generic Fantasy Name Generator
If you feel the need to Pick your own name.
List of Names
More Names
And even MORE names
So, I personally don’t think there is an issue with the way names are handled in this game, I think the issue is more with how small a pool people allow themselves to swim in when it comes to looking for a name.
One only needs to look at OPs signature “I’m only here because sometimes I just like to watch things burn.” to understand what this thread is really about.

Try a google search, this has been discussed to death. A sticky at the top of this forum shows how.
Short answer: No.
I think there’s nothing wrong with the naming system. Players who have named their characters 3 years ago may come back. The game is designed to be ‘play whenever you want’. For them to come back to the game for whatever reasons, it wouldn’t be right for them to come back to find their character’s name has to be re-written.
Asura and Sylvari don’t have surnames, but you can still give them a title if the name is already taken.
For instance, instead of trying for Memp (I personally know that Asuran name is taken) try Golemancer Memp or Lionguard Memp etc.
Or for the Sylvari Caerven (again, I know it’s taken) – try Warden Caerven or Agent Caerven.
They still conform to the lore, and depending with who you want your character to be (especially for RP) your character will have deeper meaning.
Since the game started over 10 years ago it’s always been this way. They do not and will not take any names away even if the person has not been in the game for years. They have said so several dozen times.
They need to let us put them on display in our home instance.
When you have completed a collection, please put a button next to it which will delete all the associated items from your possession. Or just do it automatically.
I just went through my first HoT legendary collection and now I have a bank tab full of items that I kept in-case I needed them.
To delete them all I have to type the item name out to destroy, and I need to type something like “Experimental Hylek Poison Equipment Device Book Volume 6.” etc for a bunch of items and it’s annoying.
The reason why the game rewards items that get salvaged instead of gold is that awarding gold (i.e., the game creates gold and gives it to you) would be a faucet. Faucets add to the total amount of liquid gold floating around the game. This causes inflation. “Making” players salvage items and sell them to other players to get gold is a sink. Sinks remove liquid gold from the game. In addition to the trivial charge for salvage kits (or Copper/Silver-Fed perma kits), there is the 15% “fee” charged by the TP. Sinks help keep inflation in check.
There is a reason to have currencies for each zone meta. If there were, say, one currency that could be used to unlock every reward, then players would play only the content where they could get the most currency for the least effort. Tying zone rewards to specific currency ensures that players must play that zone’s content to get those rewards. It also makes it more likely that when someone wants to play that content, there will be others there to do it with. Since zone events cannot be soloed, this is a good thing for any player who is late to the party, who took their time getting what they wanted or who just likes that meta.
My biggest beef about the various currencies is not that they exist. It’s that they take up space in my bags. If the game is going to award such a thing for every zone (or more than one — looking at shovels and bandit keys), it would be nice to have a key chain/currency purse.

Ack! Someone compromised your forum log-in 5 months ago, as well!
You might consider changing your password and un-ticking ‘Save Password’ for the game and the forums.
Good luck.
