This thread again
not again pls. (the message lenght must be at least 15). not again pls.
My thoughts exactly. How many more times will this thread need to be discussed until real change can happen? The Ranger is outclassed in every role of value in WvW. Even Yak Slapping!
The game has been out for nearly 2 years now. Has the class ever had a reason to exist in all that time other than to soak up AE damage? The point of this thread isn’t to troll or try and convince the WvW community the class is useful. It’s not!
But what do players out there feel that WvW or the Ranger is missing that could be added to the class and keep it balanced and stay within the theme of the class?
So, I’ve been trying to get “Been there done that” which means I’ve been slogging my way through the WvW maps to get the POIs.
Which is incredibly hard for me, because after much introspection, I’ve figured out I really, really suck at this.
I managed to get a single kill, but only by virtue of the three other allies standing around me. Otherwise I die – a lot.
So, I’m trying to understand what I need to be doing to at least give myself some kind of fighting chance. I’m a level 80 Sylvari Mesmer, and generally prefer greatsword, though my secondary set is a sword/torch. This is my only character, so I’ve probably really screwed up something, somewhere along the line. I’ve got a full set of exotics which I purchased from the Black Lion, so my gear seems to be OK, and my weapon seems also fairly decent, at least in terms of damage output.
But the more baffling aspect of it is the playstyle, and the tricks people seem to employ. For example, the skirmishes I’ve been involved with, the people seem to dodge constantly which I can’t do, without my meter depleting rather quickly. One time, after I died, I stayed put just to watch my killer fight some other people who showed up near me. He killed them too. But what was most impressive was his ability to just constantly heal himself. His attackers would deal damage, and then a few seconds later, he’d heal himself back – his health bar constantly moved back and forth as if he were constantly chugging some sort of health potion. How is that possible?
I think the last battle I fought, I completely unloaded on the guy, and I ended up dead, and he ended up with about 70% health. What am I doing wrong??
Haha, I can’t wait to see WvW crash and burn. Seriously. What this game needs is a shock therapy to wake ANet up from their drunk coma. Even the PvEers are up in arms right now about SAB, precursors, etc.
The WvW team is actually one guy who usually works on the gem store, but occasionally during his free time he messes around with adding stuff to WvW.
1 year of development, a single siege mastery, 3 woooah colours for the commander tag and a 1200 range grenade that disables siege in a 450 radius. Haha.
I think a fractal armor set (maybe having similar looks as its weapons) would be a good idea.
I also agree that wvw needs a couple more ‘exclusive’ sets as well. Something to work towards, to make badges worthwhile, etc.
I don’t disagree with the OP though, pve would need its own ‘exclusive’ set as well. That could come in the form of legendary armor, the return of FoW armor, harder world bosses getting a full set of droppable armor (like wurm slayer, but being a complete set, which anet could still do), etc.
Then each mode, or major game play component, would offer something “worth chasing.” (Theoretically) Just as we once desired to chase FoW armor, or Vabbian armor, etc.
This is a very reasonable position for this forum.
I don’t understand why people feel the need to turn this into another “us vs them” war, I play all modes (badly) and I don’t begrudge sPVP getting an exclusive set of armour but the “exclusive” PVE armour sets were the dungeon sets which were always accessible through sPVP. So them adding sPVP armour is a good first step but I think they really should add additional “prestige” sets for WvW, PVE and fractals. Which they may be planning on doing in the next few feature packs. (I’m still kinda hoping we’ll see a WvW exclusive set this feature pack though).
The difference is that the so-called exclusive dungeon skins were within anyone’s reach. Especially in the early days of the game, you could get a full dungeon set in a couple of days. Now, you need a week to do so.
The new exclusive pvp armor is accessible only to a handfull of players that get invited to a special tournament. And nobody is denying them their special reward. We are asking for something special for the people that play PVE.
You don’t get it do you…everything for the past couple years have been basically PvE exclusive….. You don’t NEED anymore special things, you just WANT them… PvP NEEDED this because anet is trying to inject some life into a somewhat dying community..This was logical decision by anet to add some new rewards to PvP..hopefully get some PvErs to give PvP a shot because there are rewards in PvP that MIGHT be worth working for…
You can’t say this about PvE… there’s plenty of rewards for being a PvEr… fractal skins, legendary, ascended, world boss skins, mini pets, much easier access to getting gemstore skins
Also, there is nothing prestigious in PvE…all the content is easy lol
You cannot have prestige from PvE gear because PvE gear is not about player skill but about character stats (i.e. it isn’t a competition with others, but a competition with math).
What passes for difficulty in PvE is just memorizing exactly what to do and when, something which watching a video once or twice can accomplish for you.
PvP actually separates good players from bad players which allows rewards to be exclusive and prestigious.
If you are playing a game for prestige, then you need to be playing PvP. If you are playing a game for fun, then you need to be playing whatever you find to be fun and not caring about what is going on in the areas that you don’t find fun.
I’d like to add that if he is attempting to play PVE for prestige, he should be working on [Eternity] and not worrying about some armor skin.
She already has Eternity and many other legendaries and expensive weapons. Now that I am satisfied with the weapons on all my alts, I would like to have some really special armor. That is not too much to ask and I am sure that there are plenty of people would appreciate it too. I know several people crafting the Minstrel and other random not-so-special legendaries, because they want special items but nothing else is available.
LoL, almost every new armor skin anet has released has been exclusively PvE…
You think PvPers have ANY chance at all of getting those nice skins in gemstore (without paying real $$)?? At least PvErs , you farm gold/keys and get them and slowly aquire them… but for PvPers to get them? no chance unless they step outside the Mists and actually do PvE stuff, which mind, you is boring to most PvPers…
There isn’t something as prestigious as winning a competitive PvP tournament in the PvE side of this game yet… and there won’t be because
a) Casuals are the majority group in PvE
b) If difficult content is added to PvE and that is obviously where such prestigious armor skins would be locked behind, majority of the casual care bears would cry up a storm on these forums and directly to anet about how its too hard to get such prestigious armor.
If anet adds exclusive armor skins to PvE, thats great, I got nothing against it, I just don’t see how it will be implemented because gemstore skins are what actually brings money to anets pocket so most new skins for PvErs will always just come from gemstore..
“I want an exclusive PvE armor set.”
“It’s right here.”
“I don’t like how you get it.”

Full Disclosure: I’m not a PvPer in RPGs.
you have more than enough pve exclusiv features.
if you are saying “nooo. butbut every pvp player can come to pve to earn it!” well, same counts for you.
hop over to pvp, complete reward track – earn armor.
stop whining
no gutz no glory
“Tranquility has a beard.”
God, these childish threads T.T about exlusiveness these days…
PvE needs no exclusive rewards
PvP needs no exklusive rewards
WvW needs no exlusive rewards
All modes should offer the same rewards, just with different ways of how to obtain them, which are for each different Playstyle different balanced.
And if this shouldnt be whyever possible, then each mode should offer somehow ways how to obtain these skins, so that just simply everyone can play the game HOW THEY WANT, without being forced to play something, that they don’t like just to earn some weapon/armor skins in a game, where fashion is currently everything in this game to come up with a unique character individualization for everyone.
People cry out lout here like little babies who have been stolen their precious lollies..
Come on, is it for real ??
These new PvP Armors, let PvP’ers earn it through that new PvP Reward Track and through winning their PvP Competitions in those Tournaments.
A PvE player would then earn these armors through a long and hard scavenger hunt instead, what would take longer, for the price of having it earned in the way how you as a PvE player would like it to play the game, what doesn’t mean that in that scavenger hunt can’t be also integrated something little bit PvP related disguised as a new ACTIVITY.
A WvW Player could earn these new Armors through Tournament Tickets, currently we have there only the mistforged weapons and mistforged hero weapons, that are currently WvW only rewards too.
Are PvPers crying for that here now too ?? did yousee any PvPer come up instantly and QQ the house full, because they can’t get those weapons sets through PvP currently???
No, it didn’t happen. But it doesn’t mean that Anet couldnt add in future also some kind of Hero of the Mist PvP Reward Track, so that PvP’ers can earn these skins also through PvP and give on the other side for PvE as new explorable Elite Location – the Underworld, which lies in the Mists there those weapon set skins as rare loot rewards from the various champions/ world boss that you might find there then, so that PvE’ers would get their their chance to earn these sets without having to participate in those WvW Tournaments for Tournament Tickets as rewards…
The point is, nothign of all this is set in stone for eternity, Anet can always come up later with changes and additions to the reward systems to allow the other players of other play modes to earn those things differently.
Exclusiveness isn’t a thing that must stay forever in all eternity.
Exclusiveness can also be temporary.
Look at many games on the console market, which get first announced as exlusive title and then some years later when the exlusiveness licence contract that has been made there runs out become later multi platform titles.
The same way it can be handled with exclusive rewards. First they are temporary exclusive for PvP and somewhen later, when Anet thinks, this and that was now long enough exclusive, they add new reward mechanisms in the other areas of the game through adding new content, like said example of the underworld, which would be a splendig great and simple way to add WvW mistforged weapons and hero weapons there as a way for PvE’ers to gain these things under a RNG scheme of a mechanism, while WvW’s would have with their Tournaments a direct based Token scheme for guaranteed rewards, but can therefore work on these rewards only, when a Tournament is actively running …
All just simple examples of what can be with what I just want to express – we don#t know, what Anets plans are for us in the future in regard of reward systems and all such stuff.
So it brings absolutely nothing to make a total outrage here now. It won’t lead into a sudden hotfix patch that changes things to how you’d like them to see that this new content gets instantly changed to be not PvP exclusive anymore directly.

As I said before, there is nothing special about the Ascended Armors. They only require time to be crafted, nothing else. On top of that, most people were hugely displeased with their aesthetics and instantly reskinned them.
But it does require exactly what you wanted the PvE exclusive set to require. As stated in your original post:
I wish Anet would introduce an equally prestegius armor set, that could be craftable through PVE rewards and activities. I wouldn’t even mind paying 100 pristine relics per piece.
The Ascended Armor sets require either getting lucky and getting chests from specific content.
Or being crafted, which require doing multiple types of specific content.
They exist even if you don’t like them.

2 years of pure pve development it was fine for pvers , 1 update for pvp . Whining, rolling on the floor with tears in eyes it is just pathetic . YES you wont be able to obtain every armor for just standing on world boss spaming 111111 it is so sad . Anet pls give pvpers options to show off :unique armor, visible ranks outside pvp(www).
Isn’t something like this already available?
Ascended Armor sets.
They are “craftable through PVE rewards and activities” and have unique skins.

There are plenty of PvE exclusive armor skins, it’s just that people don’t bother to go looking for them. I’m sorry, but PvP can have their new exclusive skins. I’m glad they have them, and I’ll congratulate anybody who puts the work into getting them. I won’t be one of them, I hate PvP. Good luck with those new skins!

Hey guys, I wanted to pop in and make a few points about the siege disabler.
- As you are probably aware, we are adding Golem Mastery in the same update. This provides a new, viable option for countering a golem rush.
Thanks for the post.
I am especially concerned about Golem Mastery. Golems are already too powerful.
What is the rationale for making the siege disabler affect Golems for less time than other siege? I would think it should affect Golems for the same amount or even more time.
I don’t know what the problem is; nearly all towers that get taken are taken before the enemy even knows their gone. In case people forgot, 2-4 superior rams take down doors faster than the enemy can react.
There is also nothing stopping attacking forces to use catas or trebs completely out of of the 1200 range as well. What this does is force defenders to come out of their towers now to actually do something instead of sitting pretty on their AC’s.
There are only 2 real problems that are going to become of this:
1) As others have mentioned, hurts small groups.. drastically
2) Hackers; our beloved glitchers could cause severe problems with these. One person could literally stop an entire zerg by being untouchable under the ground disabling siege.
2) Hackers; our beloved glitchers could cause severe problems with these. One person could literally stop an entire zerg by being untouchable under the ground disabling siege.
That’s a really good point, especially since there’s virtually no chance Anet will ever act on the hacking/hackers.
A tier 3 tower or keep, full of superior seige, has taken a considerable amount of time and resources to build up by the defenders. It should be difficult to take, that’s the whole point. Being able to walk up to a fully upgraded tower with 30 guys, drop 4 superior rams, and take it in less than 5 minutes, that would be stupid. But it can already happen if the defenders aren’t on their toes, so if anything anti-ram defences need a buff, not a nerf.
The proper counter to a fully upgraded/seiged tower should be trebs. That way the attackers have to make an equal effort to the defenders in order to take the tower. Then the defenders are given time to try and rally together and go take out the trebs. That way we get to see some proper WvW action and not just PvD.
The problem is that trebbing is far too easily countered by….. other trebs. 1 or 2 trebs inside a T3 tower or keep make it pointless to try and treb an upgraded tower. Combined with ACs, this means the only way to take an upgraded objective is to either zerg it down with a blob, 5+ superior rams, and maybe golems for good measure. Or to try and sneak attack. This is PvD, pure and simple, and results in boring WvW.
So take a look at trebs before QQing about ACs..
PvE gets new content twice a month, no one bats an eye.
PvP gets a single armour set after 2 years of nothing and everyone loses their minds.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zkT2uZAGA – GW2 – A world of wonder
I am happy with the introduction of this armor set knowing full well that I won’t have a chance at it. I don’t care enough to compete on a higher level for gw2, if I wanted to go back to that lifestyle I’d go pro on another fps, but that’s an entirely different discussion…
It’s nice to see Anet reward the players that dedicate a lot of effort into refining their PvP. Can’t wait to see how cool it is and eat popcorn while more self-entitled kids rage about how they can’t get it.
Quoted from someone elses post for truth: “Against all odds, the level of incompetence and inability to understand what features players actually want has gone up another notch.”
The whole point of wanting different colour tags is so that commanders can organise their colours amongst themselves, so people know which tag they should be following.
WvW players are completely gold poor compared to PvE players, so the very people who this feature will actually be useful for are the people who can’t afford to buy X extra colours just so they have the flexibility to switch when it’s needed.
Utter design failure. (Or possibly utter deliberate cash-grab, although if so then it will backfire massively as all the WvW commanders quit in disgust.)
(edited by ConfusedDave.4271)
Add a functionality the community has been asking for since the beta and then make sure only those rich people playing the TP can use it first instead of those who need it to coordinate and improve the gameplay.
How to turn a win into a fail…
Tags should’ve been account bound from day one. Nobody’s character is a commander, the player is the commander. As a result the only change to tags that should be in the patch is that they are account bound and can swap colours at will with a single purchase at the current price.
Anything less than this is a slap in the face to everyone that wants the best for wvw as a pvp game mode.
Well, let’s break it down nice and easy if any devs actually read this and care.
1. WvW should not be pay-to-command in the first place. The commander icon should be something you eventually earn through playing WvW. Anymore on most servers, you are basically doing a public service for WvW to actually throw up a tag to drive pugs around.
2. The different colors and account bound aspect of the tag should have been features for the commander tag from day one. This is two years in now.
3. A guild tag that is visible to guild members only, hello?
4. The commander icon itself is still has woefully inadequate visibility in typical WvW fights. P.S. so does the cursor. Again, we’re two years in now.
5. The cost of the new tag is hysterical. Many WvW players that have been playing since day one have never even had 300g at any point in time, and they had to beg / scrape together 100g for one tag.
What universe are you guys operating in?
This is exactly why we need Anet talking with us. These decisions are so bad its actually funny. We had a CDI a few months ago to figure this kind of thing out. Colored pins weren’t the problem. The problem was people wanting to run with guilds or pinless not having a way to follow others.
Then when you look at something like PvE, its purely a status symbol already. The colors will just make it worse. Yellow outfit, might as well wear a yellow commander pin to match that.
Hopefully this reaction by the community let’s you have plenty of time to reconsider, and change things before the patch hits.
I would like to add my feedback here, even though I’m not a commander.
What was asked for during the CDI was a simple usability improvement. Commanders should be able to change color depending on the situation. Servers groups can negotiate between themselves what the colors mean e.g., Red = Attack group, Blue = Defense group, whatever.
This seemingly simple change has been hijacked into a massive gold sink. I don’t think it’s fair for the commanders, and actually hinders the original intent behind having colors in the first place!
I imagine that if this goes ahead, commanders will need to carefully negotiate between each other what colors each person buys. They will also be cornered into playing a particular role (based on the color) unless they spend the gold to buy all the tags which seems unfeasible.
The above complexity can be completely avoided if you just implement the change in the mindset of a usability improvement (that should have been there from the beginning) rather than a gold sink opportunity.
Having to pay for each color separately completely defeats the purpose of why the community wanted colored tags to begin with. It will still be impossible to change tag color on the fly to coordinate. I don’t understand how anyone could think this was possibly a good idea.
Tarnished Coast
Who are the poorest players in the game? WvW Commanders!
Who will benefit most from the new color commander tags? WvW Commanders!
Lets make them spend 300g for each additional color they want. Makes sense. Let’s make the poorest people even poorer.
King Arcturus X~80 Ranger | Suki Serra~80 Thief | Count Charon~80 Necro | Regulus Leo~80 Ele
HoD since launch
What about buying the tag for 300g, with the ability to choose which colour you want, and then every additional colour you wish can be unlocked for, for example, 1000 Badges of Honor each
